At the end of Season 5, Sun Wukong and Macaque return to Flower Fruit Mountain to find six little monkeys affected by the new spread of magic.

First chapter of a new fic!

We pick up where we left off at the end of summer camp and explore how the Rise/03 family settles in together before the start of rottmnt canon events

Fun fact, I was originally going to make LFFK roughly canon-compliant and attempt to explain this discrepancy. I most definitely did not go that route, because it was sad and I eventually got better ideas anyway, but I'm putting my old notes under the cut if anyone's interested in what LFFK might've been.

(Bear in mind I was coming up with this before the "War Mantel" episode came out, so I had a different backstory for Gregor.)

I'd like to build up to explaining how Rex, Wolffe, and Gregor ended up on that super remote planet, alone, with a tank, and not super willing to fight anymore.

My idea right now starts with Kix going undercover to a medical station/broadcast tower place. Maybe on a distant moon that has an inverted day/night schedule. So Order 66 went down when most of them were asleep. Whoever was on duty at the time woke them up when things over the radio got exciting/confusing, but for the most part, it was like the world changed overnight. Previous to that event, Gregor had found his way back to known space, severely shellshocked but more than willing to keep up the fight. He was sent to this medical station to get cleared, and overnight, it was like someone flipped a switch--he became near mute and 100% percent obedient (no matter who gave the order). The group of clones is baffled, but it came in handy a time or two when they were out on a mission (why would they be on a mission? Dunno yet. Maybe it had something to do with mopping up after the war). So they're able to argue with any superiors and protect Gregor from getting decommissioned, but they have to keep a close eye on him and don't allow very many people to see him. So Kix gets there let's say a year after Order 66. He recognizes that Gregor's chip is essentially shorting out the rest of his brain, and convinces the resident medic to help him remove it. The change is instantaneous, and Kix is now the hero of the hour. Wolffe comes along about that same time for work on his cybernetic eye, which seems to be giving him chronic pain, though Kix is pretty quick to deduce it's more from suppressed trauma of losing Master Plo. If Kix takes out the chip, though, he'll know Wolffe will need to talk through his loss, and if he does that now, he'll be shot for treason. So Kix expedites his up-to-now subtle hints and fully explains the chips to the rest of the clones. They eventually come to an agreement to operate on a test group first, since Kix, Gregor, and Wolffe aren't the most representative data points haha. If things need to move faster, Kix would call Rex and Fives in for backup, and they would help convince everyone that this needs to happen. So they all get their chips out. When Wolffe's chip comes out, it goes about how Kix expected. Rex would be able to help, if he's there. Now that they have an entire base of chip-free clones, and it just so happens to be a broadcast station (not really a coincidence--Rex, Kix, and the others chose this location for that exact reason) they want to send a mass broadcast to the Galaxy about the chips ("What are they gonna do, decommission us? They were gonna do that anyway.") (because clones are being replaced in waves at this point by reconditioned nat-borns) They get their message out. It gets a mixed reception. Some clones believe it. Those who are lucky enough to have a medic in their company are able to get their chips out. Others are too far gone. Anyone who worked closely with a Jedi had a stronger reaction to the chip, and has less free thinking than other clones. So Cody wasn't saved. Depending on how I want to handle the next part... the de-chipped clones regroup and become part of the rebellion, or there's mass infighting across the galaxy and most de-chipped clones don't make it that far. Maybe a mixture of the two. Or maybe, like, it's long enough later from Order 66 that when Kix's broadcast gets out, most of the Empire doesn't really care? They're like, "yeah, yeah, conspiracy theory, whatever--the Jedi were traitors anyway. Who cares if the clones had a choice?"

That... would be really, really discouraging for Rex and co. And probably more in line with where everyone ends up.

Whatever happens, it shakes Rex to the core. He was on that remote dusty planet with the rest of the guys from the broadcast station (they fled there to regroup with as many ships, tanks, etc., as they could carry), and he just... stays there. Because what's the point. Gregor and Wolffe aren't stable enough to go anywhere, so they stay with him. Other clones come and go, but for the most part, they hare off to join the rebellion, and do a great service in training civilians there. There's also the fact that Wolffe had a known history with the Empire of calling in fake distress calls...? Maybe he tried to turn them in before he got his chip out and they managed to talk their way out of it that time haha.

Wwac Comic Book Signing AU

I was brainstorming with @greatlyblessed a few weeks ago came up with a few more Early Reunion AUs, including one where Leonardo takes Little Raph to a comic book signing with Mertle Nitan, and they're all using cloaking broaches so they don't recognize each other at first. I was reviewing some of my old notes today and thought I post this tidbit here

"Wow Dad, you look so much like Mertle Nitan!"

"Do I?"

Mr. Nitan was an Asian-American, kinda short and stocky, with short black hair and big wide shoulders. Leo hummed thoughtfully but shrugged it off. It was just a coincidence.

"Hey there kiddo! Nice hat!"

Leo's breath left him in a whoosh, and his mouth was moving before he could think better of it. "Mikey?"

Mr. Nitan startled and looked up at Leo with a haunted expression. "Wha...? Er, sorry sir, did you say something?"

Leo knew that voice better than his own.

It was him.

His brother.

His brother was here.

"Michelangelo," Leo said, voice cacking and eyes stinging as he reached for Mr. Nitan's hands across the table. "Michelangelo, it--it's me. It's Leonardo."

Mr. Nitan's jaw dropped, and he stood so quickly his chair nearly tipped over, but it fell back onto all four legs with a clatter. "Leo?!"

People were starting to stare, but Leo didn't care because he was busy being nearly dragged over the singing table and hugged to death by a human with his brother's voice.

Though he supposed Mikey could say the same as well.

"Leo! I c-can't believe--how are you--where have you been?!" Mikey spluttered, because it was Mikey, even if his five-fingered hands were fisted in the back of Leo's jacket and the strange-soft-fuzz of his hair was on Leo's cheek.

"I--" Leo choked and took in a shuddering breath. "I thought I lost you, Mike. I... I read the police report. You disappeared."

"YOU disappeared!" Mike cried, thumping a fist against Leo's weirdly soft back. "I was--I was alone, Leo! How could you just--leave me like that!"

"I was looking, I swear I've been looking for all of you the minute I got back here--oh, Mikey--"

Leo's eyes fogged over and he lost the ability for coherent speech for some time after that. During that time, Little Raph and another kid pulled Leo and Mike away from the signing table and into a back room with couches and a low table. Leo and Mike sat down together and were given water cups, and then the kids withdrew a pace and began talking to each other excitedly, and Leo gathered that this was one of Little Raph's brothers. He introduced himself as Junior, and Leo couldn't help but huff a laugh and give Mike a nudge. "Luck of the draw," he mumbled.

"Why? You think it was easy raising that little monster?" Mkke scoffed through a grin. "I owe you so many apologies. Sensei too. I had no idea what I was putting you through."

A few weeks after the events of WWAC, Raphael takes Donatello on a housecall

When I was a baby, I stuck my hand in the wheel of a stationary bike and nearly lost my pinky. You can still see the stitches, though they've stretched and faded over time.

The biggest scar is between my two little fingers, and it almost looks like a scorpion. When I first realized that as a kid, I ran up to my mom and told her, and she said "yes, a scorpion with two stingers" without missing a beat. 

I've wondered about that for a long time, about how long she must have looked at that scar to have it memorized better than I did.

She's the kind of person who tries to take all her kids' hurts on herself, to know them, to help us though them.

I look at my hands and remember how much I love my mom.

Five years ago, or certainly ten, if you had said to me like they said to Nehemiah, your hands will be too weak for this work, and they will surely fail, you would have been right. I did not know then the goodness of the labor, and how it reaches down through generations. The only calluses I had were rubbed there by the air as I waved away the weight of my own sin.

But now a Hand that never weakens has laid ahold of mine, and the strength of it has gone all the way down into my feeble knees. It might mean blisters in the lee of the thumb and knuckles scuffed and blooded and nails cracked and crescented with dirt. It might mean moments when it feels the grip will give. Mine certainly will, but His can only do what it has ever done, and that is to hold fast all that has been given Him.

You know that feeling where you’re dreaming and you think you wake up, but then you actually wake up and you can definitely tell you were still dreaming before?

Hold onto that feeling :D

….so I did a thing.

I watched Princess Mononoke for the first time during the holidays, and I really, really loved the story. It’s such a rich setting—they crammed a ton of information into a 2 hour movie without losing the plot tension, and I was really impressed. Plus Ashitaka’s like, the man. So I wanted more, and I didn’t see anything out there that looked interesting to me (if you have any recs, let me know!). I also just really loved some of these scenes and wanted to *read* them.

So I wrote them

It was actually kinda super relaxing. Like, it was such a relief to be able to write creatively without having to plan the story at the same time. It felt like tracing a photo—like, yeah, it takes work to translate it to a new medium, but the subject and the lighting and the colors are already laid out for you, so you only have to worry about choosing the right tools to replicate it, and you get to learn from a real piece of art as you do it.

Anyway. I have no idea if this will be any fun or if it’s a super boring read, but I’m having a great time :D
