Episode 50 - Foundations
Sampson Kempthrone (That sounds very fancy)
George Gilbert Scott (Three first names, can’t trust him)
Another letter statement from 1841.
Okay but the description of Jonah’s townhouse sounds cozy.
A New Zealand trip in 1841? They’re mega rich.
Henry Roberts? Also an architect?
Oh yes, workhouses! If you work 20 hours a day you’ll be too tired to commit crimes.
There’s next to no difference between prisons and workhouses.
This episode is going to send me into another history rant.
This guy can go fuck himself. Rich fuck.
Turning people into slaves is not making them better. Unions and workers rights did that.
Goerge has a cursed book, because I don’t remember when Litner books were started. Only way to explain the speaking in tongues and sweaty appearance.
An architect being stressed about drawings is lowkey normal.
“An architect’s job is to draw ideas and an engineers job is to tell the architect what is actually possible”
Are these the tunnels that we saw before where they kept measuring the width of the tunnel? And I believe that Gerard sucker punched a guy?
Millbank Prison tunnels^^
Goerge cannot handle criticism.
Sir Robert Smirke mentioned.
Robert has an agenda, and you are simply a footnote in it.
OH Sampson is also an architect. Now that makes way more sense.
September of 1836, is when it happened.
Clack of the cane, made to sound spooky.
Dude just had a hat man encounter. Nothing that bad.
The Governor? Is that the name of the hat man in the 1800s?
Who is Harry?
Paranormal construction methods officially sent me while at the laundromat.
George Gilbert Scott was involved in many of the important buildings in London(?), I’ll admit I have little geography knowledge of the UK.
Supplemental??
Basira came to talk to Jon.
Tim saying that he doesn’t trust Basira while sleeping with other cops is iconic.
NOOOOOOOOO
Omg now Tim is going to gossip that Jon is hooking up with Basira.
Tim did not let Jon get a single word in after. Jon has a corrupt cop girlfriend now, at least according to Tim.
I love how we are not getting into the paranormal architect plot now. All I can assume is going on is that there’s secret cult tunnels underneath all of London. But I would like for it to be more like the tunnels are acting as energy arteries. For like a massive supernatural being. The lack of information on Robert Smirk is not that surprising because records that old are incredibly rare and like if he was just an architect he wouldn’t have been deemed that important. Finally, Tim is iconic as per usual. Also, I can’t wait for angsty Martin because we all know that Tim is going to RUN with the assumption that Jon is hooking up with Basira (possibly in the archives).
An aside, is it actually Smirke? Sometimes I genuinely hate the spelling of names in this.

Gravity Falls, The Magnus Archives, Welcome to Night Vale and The SCP foundation all exist in the same universe and Cognito Inc. from Inside Job has to deal with all of them on a weekly basis

AU where the scp foundation sends really angry letters to the archive every week and Elias tosses them out like junk mail
you should unironically write this

I like to imagine that the Magnus Institute, Nightvale and the SCP Foundation all are present in the same really fucked up universe, fully aware of eachother and they're all just warily side eying everyone else while doing their own thing

Media, where organizations just collect, categorize and try to contain supernatural/abnormal phenomenons/items, scratches an itch in my brain.

I like the subtle world building implications in the differences between the usher foundation and the magnus institute. if the usher foundation and the magnus institute were meant to be direct parallels to each other, then the usher foundation would have been established in like the 1870s in boston or nyc, but no, it's in dc and was founded no earlier that 1955, and that gives me less "old respectable academia" vibes and more "insane reagan era project comissioned to weaponize the supernatural in the cold war that didn't work but was never officially shut down."

My favourite types of tumblr posts atm are the tma x (Media) posts where everyone in the tags are just going 'Jon's going to be well fed after this one' like yeah no shit this is Malevolent, SCP and gravity Falls we're talking about. That man is gonna be FULL by the time he's met half of the characters.

I'd like to retract one of my criticisms of the magnus archives
season 3 spoilers
I initially did not like that all the stories followed basically the same format, with the subject first dumping their backstory with a fear that will turn out to be related to whichever entity
if this were the scp foundation it would make sense that they're all in the same format, they're all canonically written by the same organization with an in-universe style guide
but in TMA I'm supposed to believe that all these different people from different walks of life all came and gave their story in the exact same way saving the juicy bits for the end?
It has now been revealed that the format is how a person talks when The Eye compels them, this is revealed a few times (e.g. when Elias compels Daisy or when Jon compels Jude) but in episode 100 it has been shown what happens when someone tries to take a statement without compelling their subject:
MARTIN
O-kay.. Regarding a… a ghost. Statement begins.
LYNNE
Sorry. What happens now?
MARTIN
Oh, er… [nervous chuckle] Well, I mean, you, you tell us what happened.
LYNNE
Well, yeah, I did. I saw a ghost.
MARTIN
Er, no, I mean, I mean, you, sort of, tell the story of –
LYNNE
Yeah. The story is: I saw a ghost.
MARTIN
Okay. But what, what was it like? How did it make you, er, feel?
LYNNE
Erm… it was… scary and it made me feel… scared.
I’m sorry. Am I doing this wrong?

What is their response to media that gives off Foundation vibes? Like, ones that were written entirely on the other side of the veil, and is a complete coincidence.
The video game Control, for example, or the horror podcast The Magnus Archives. Stuff like that?
They're okay with it, as long as it doesn't stray too far into Foundation territory. Elias loves the Magnus Archives, though, and they both play Control together sometimes.
