Grima Wormtongue had a ward?
When it comes to writing about Rohan, I am quite excited for the opportunity to create more OC's. You've already heard about head healer Walda, Éomer King's yet to be named male secretary who is also his work wife, as well as Hafrith, the lady in waiting with a sweet personality and a tragic subplot. But more recently, in honor of @proletariatramen's years-long obsession with the Black Butler character Alois Trancy, I've come up with a Rohanese OC who will be a genderbent version of him. She will be another lady in waiting, and her name will be Ainsley, per the Rohanese naming convention which requires all names to have Old English roots.
Alright, so who is Ainsley?
Ainsley is a white-blonde wisp of a young woman with eyes like rainwater, and while she is beautiful, Lothíriel's first impression is that she looks like a mushroom that sprung up overnight after a rain. (As you already know, Lothíriel is not a very nice person when she is in distress).
Anyway, Ainsley's origins are relatively humble: she comes from a family of lesser nobles, and her home village was wiped out by raiding Dunlendings. She and her younger brother are the sole survivors, but afterwards, they are forced to wander, and eke out a living working odd jobs and trying to find their way to another part of the country where they believe they have distant relatives. In the course of their travels, Ainsley is forced to resort to sex work, and her brother dies from an illness.
Grima Wormtongue, Theoden King's crooked advisor, meets Ainsley in a house of ill repute where she finally ends up, despairing in finding her family. Grima sees something in her, and begins to sexually groom her, eventually taking her away and passing her off as his ward.
Using his influence at court, Grima secures a post for Ainsley as one of Lady Eowyn's ladies in waiting. Since Grima is trying to sink his claws into Éowyn as well, one of Ainsley's tasks is to spy on her mistress. But Ainsley ends up playing a dangerous game. She sabotages Grima's efforts by feeding him either false or useless information -- not because she particularly cares about Éowyn (more about this later), but because with all her trauma, she is on nobody's side but her own. Later, when Grima is discredited by Gandalf and the Three Hunters, Ainsley comes out about his abuse and manipulation of her, Éowyn vouches for her, and she is taken into the royal family's protection. After Éowyn leaves for Gondor, Ainsley becomes a lady in waiting to Lothíriel.
Personality-wise, Ainsley is about as erratic as Alois -- again, on account of her trauma. She is one of those traumatized people who was forced to watch their family die, emerged from the experience laughing maniacally, and never stopped laughing. As a result of her harsh years on the run, she trusts nothing and nobody, and hates most everyone she comes across, though she masks it all with a sweet and hypersexual flirtatious demeanor, peppered with a hint of playful crassness and casual abuse.
Oftentimes, she is seen dancing around like Ophelia, singing innocent-sounding, seemingly nonsensical songs that are actually quite sinister. She also has a collection of caged birds, like Ms. Flite in Bleak House, and names them things like "Justice" and "Grief." Unlike Ms. Flite, however, she sometimes releases the birds, and sometimes kills them for fun, all in an effort to channel the erratic nature of fate.
Hafrith, the head lady in waiting, has a way with Ainsley (mostly because Hafrith is a Saint (tm)), and most everyone else pities her and tolerates her oddities -- after all, if you've been abused by the universally vilified Grima Wormtongue, you've got infinite cred. All in all, Ainsley exists in the story for two reasons 1) to show yet another dimension of how Rohan is a broken realm, and how the war has taken a toll on its people and 2) to inject an element of chaos and hypersexuality into Lothiel's circle.
(Human) faceclaim: Tamzin Merchant or Elle Fanning. Alois Trancy is pictured in the middle, for those who have not seen the snime.

I will never shut up about how important the "it should be Aloy, despite the Nora" / "I didn't know. I'll remember that" exchange is
not just to me as Trash (TM) but to the characters in question
like. of course it was them. of course this was their moment of self-recognition in the other--two similar people with similar stories (in shape if not degree) coming together and learning that they can see themselves in somebody else, actually, and be better for it
and of course talanah makes good on her promise to remember
again, and again
like the OG moment of aloy being known by and loved as a name she spoke for herself, first

Art prompts I am saving up to commission (feel free to promote any artists/yourself):
Elisabet, beating off Aloy’s admirers with a stick. Aloy, beating off Elisabet’s admirers with her spear.
Elisabet and Aloy, sitting at a campfire under the moon. Elisabet is admiring the plants. Aloy is chewing on turkey.
Aloy, flouncing off to throw hands at a giant bird machine that could destroy a chunk of a city by its mass alone
Elisabet and Varl: stressed moms TM
Elisabet, flipping Ted off. Aloy, roughly a thousand years later in the same (but much more worn down) room, also flipping Ted off.
Elisabet, teaching Aloy how to build and synthesize the capsules for GAIA. Aloy, teaching Elisabet how to stab someone effectively in return.

The Kalon Questions Incident(TM)
I bequeath unto you all: the Kalon Questions Incident.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I missed: Rabbit chiming in with something along the lines of “If you hate it so much, why not leave?” to which Alois replied “It is infuriating to be told to pack up and leave after I have put so much money into this species only to essentially be called poor to my face.” I believe Red then had a hissy fit and reiterating about how he did not owe anyone to change the prices of the Kalon USD Shop, then purged the channel, but I could be misremembering.
how bad is it that im not surprised red and rabbit both acted this way
also alois is right, red doesn’t give a fk about the species - 🐲

also been playing horizon zero dawn recently. which is fun but i kinda... decided to play the game in russian to practice my language skills but tbh the russian voiceover performance feels pretty flat and unemotive and lacking in theatrical quality to me. which i assume is because i am listening to a dub? like russian language films aren't like this. and the eng lang voice performance for aloy is award winning, so the dialogue probably doesn't feel like a slog in the original language, right?
Tho I do really love whoever did the russian lang audio segments for Bashar Mati at the vantage points. He's speaking so crisply but also so dead inside(tm). One part of this dub I really love.

Sometimes Alois chews on people’s leg if it desides it doesn’t like them but their soul is too stinky for it to want to devour. Not only is there PHYSICAL pain but they feel it in their soul. Legs Alois has chewed so far:
Phoebus de Châteaupers
That’s it. Because Phoebus fucking SUCKS.

Here are my first thoughts on @hateweasel 's cielois fanfic DLTD, as I share them like 100+ chapters into the journey with my best friend (who hasn't read DLTD nor was ever really into Kuro) trough DMs. Here recapped for y'all.
- I FORGOT!! I DIDN'T KNOW HATE'S PRONOUNS AT THE BEGINNING SO WHEN I SPOKE WITH MY BEST FRIEND (In Italian, where they/them pronouns don't really exists unfortunately) I ALWAYS TRIED TO GET AROUND USING PRONOUNS SO AS NOT TO MISGENDER HER!! At some point (this time on ff.net, bc I usually read on ao3 so that's where I read DLTD first) I read on an author's corner the she/her pronouns and sent an ask to Hate (probably on anon bc that's how I was at first) to confirm and from then on I was finally able to get it together when talking about Hate.
-Hey Hate, remember when I sent you that anon ask talking abt how you reminded me of a French cartoon and you IMMEDIATELY recognized it as Code Lyoko? Yeah related to that whole "school thinks they're adoptive sibling" thing, I wondered why no one at school had questions about why the fuck the supposed siblings had that much non-platonic tension.
-My initial criticism that wasn't actually criticism on Hate bc I knew this was from 10 years ago and i honestly just read it as how teenage boys, especially at the time, behaved. It was criticism to just the boys, not the author. Criticism include:
1)the gay slurs the cast kept throwing around.
2)The way they all said that one in the Cielois was the "woman" - wich is something both homophobic and misogynistic.
3) the "yOuR'E sUcH a GIrL" insult that is, again, misogynistic.
4) Not a criticism to the teenage boys this time but to the girls. WHY are y'all sexualizing these gays?? GET A GRIP!!
-Not a criticism, but since we're talking about their teenager boy behavior that Hate got SO RIGHT: the COSTANT sex jokes related conversation they had. It didn't really bother me so its not criticism, its just very hormonal teen boy minded to bring everything back to that? So I wasn't really annoyed at the teenagers for being teenagers u know. I'm just adding it to the list of what I thought Hate got so well in the characterization of teenager boys.
-at some point my best friend lead me to realize that while everyone in school felt the tension between Cielois, no one had the bets running on when/if they would finally get together. Wich still makes me so sad because HATE, you missed on such a romance fanfic trope 😔 /jk
- Me at the start of the stadium arc when Kris starts being interested in...what the frick was his name?? Cameron?? Idk THAT ONE BLONDE DUDE: Oh so we're gonna have a couple of chill chapters where they are just gonna establish their relationships better!
Me, when the reapers are there and we discover about the bomb: W H A T
-Me: DLTD Suddently became Ouran Host Club? For?? Some reason??
My friend: You know what? It doesn't really surprise me. Imo this story will cover every work of literature ever existed before it ends.
-Mi initial dislike for the name Kristopherson. I still don't really like it but I'm used to it ig? Again no hate to Hate!! I just find it such an unnecessarily long name for his parents to give him? Like choose Kristopher, or Kris, why Kristopherson?? Now I know it's bc Kristopher is his father. And in general i understand that Rich People are Like That TM.
Me, while I was describing Kris's journey of self discovery to my best friend: At the beginning of the story, he was just this random bully who called Alois gay...wich i mean, it was true, but he didn't HAVE to be so mean about it...
Gonna cut this into parts so I don't kill my followers who aren't interested in my DLTD thoughts..i would use the read more thing but idk how to activate that?? Also I wrote this for some time now and I need a break lol

Three Houses/Hopes x Taskmaster
AKA here's how I think the kids would do in a school-wide Taskmaster competition.
Tumblr media
notes/explanations/ramblings under the cut
GARREG MACH STAFF
My thinking is that this is a lighthearted team-building game across houses, like a school sports day, so that’s why it’s students-only. If the staff participated, here's how I'd categorize them:
Rhea: I do not see a universe in which she participates lol. like I try to envision it and it does not compute
Seteth: just does the task
I included Cyril above just cause of his age and his likelihood to become a Garreg Mach student post-canon. He's only in “asks for help” because he needs someone to read the tasks out. After he hears it he’d be “just does the task.” But I wanted to put someone else in the bottom category with Hilda lol
Hanneman: would fall under the “distinguished older gentleman who completely loses his marbles over something small” category if there was one. Otherwise, loophole user or overly competitive
Manuela: I didn’t make an “older woman who makes every task as horny as possible” category, but if she was involved I’d make one just for her
Gilbert: gets distracted by something small, like categorizing all the rubber ducks by color or cleaning up after himself, and forgets to do the task. In this tier, “doesn’t give a fuck”
Catherine: overly competitive
Shamir: just does the task
Alois: does his best with mixed results
Jeralt: doesn’t give a fuck
PLACEMENT NOTES
Alois as Taskmaster was something I came around to after the subreddit recommended it. He'd award a bonus point randomly to whoever genuinely laughs at his puns.
I considered Seteth as Little Alex Horne, because he does have a sense of humor, but I think he's too genuine of a “straight man” to join in the spirit of the game. I do think he'd do well in the studio portion, reciting the stats and calling out mistakes/quipping back when the conversation gets rowdy.
But I like the thought of Byleth as the assistant for the recorded on-site tasks as someone who: 1. would get their hands dirty, and 2. doesn't mind the students making fun of them. Either way, I think a hard-working assistant (Seteth/Byleth) carefully planning all of these tasks only for the results to be judged by Alois who decides winners on his whims would be a funny inverse of the Davies/Horne dynamic, and very on brand with the show.
I thought about putting Ingrid in the “just does it” category but I think she’d get competitive if it were a game of BL vs other houses. If it’s just her house, she’d just want to have a good time. If it’s vs the other houses, she wants to represent her country well.
Annette is in the competitive category because she reads the task and immediately gets to work once the timer starts. Too concerned with Doing a Good Job and doesn’t read over the task and think it over, much less check under the table or look for any hints.
Claude also could have been in “overly competitive” but I think he’d have too much fun trying to find loopholes that he wouldn’t care about winning, he’d just try to have a good time bending the rules as much as possible or getting a rise out of the TM+assistant. Like Rhod Gilbert but with less antagonism.
Petra is in the loophole-user category because she is smart, and I think her second-language skills would help her here. She’d read instructions and interpret them as the Rules as Written, not Rules as Intended, which comes in handy in this game.
I haven't played Scarlet Blaze yet, so admittedly I had to make an educated guess on Monica based on content I've seen at a glance and fandom reactions to her.
Lysithea is ambitious in schoolwork and stuff that matters, but I think for something this nonsensical, she’d just do the task to get it over with. That is assuming she shows up at all.
I was torn with Sylvain because he is the type to show off, but since this is something that ultimately does not matter, he doesn’t want to try hard, fail, and look like an idiot doing something stupid like Felix or His Highness, so I think he’d just be in it for a good time. He occasionally wins without even trying, which absolutely infuriates Felix, who says he does not care (he does care).
For Felix himself I swung between “overly competitive,” “just does the task,” and “doesn't give a fuck.” But I think he's competitive only in certain things (he wouldn't get bent out of shape if he can't draw a horse with his feet), and I think he is too passionate a person to put in no effort at all. For most tasks I think he'd fall somewhere in the middle in terms of effort, thinking this is all stupid but still privately kind of wanting to do well.
SUBCATEGORIES
Subcategory 1: “Does the tasks while wearing a unique/weird Taskmaster outfit” includes Sylvain, Caspar, Hilda, Flayn (Seteth helped her make it), and all the house leaders. Dimitri and Edelgard got convinced into wearing one by their class. Claude was down to wear one immediately.
Subcategory 2: “Does good on the art tasks and nothing else” includes Ignatz, Flayn, and Bernadetta
PRIZE TASK IDEAS
I see Claude making a running gag out of his prize tasks, like something that embarrasses Edelgard or Dimitri every single round but it's always a tossup who it'll be. Like for "bring in the thing someone will miss the most," he'd bring in all of Dimitri's left shoes. Claude would also bring in the Sword of the Creator for "most high-octane item" and it's unclear whether he stole it or Byleth lent it to him because she thought it'd be funny.
Caspar would get a tattoo of the Taskmaster.
Raphael brings in the grilled cheese/cheese toastie box for "best subscription."
Hilda would be a big-time bullshitter like Judi Love trying to talk up all of her prize tasks.
Petra would bring in a reindeer skull for "most unusual item."
Hubert would find some way to bring in human blood in every task.
In a shocking turn of events, Ashe would steal the Spear of Assal for his "best stolen item."
Leonie is responsible for the "And I haggled for it" running joke, but it's unintentional.
Someone like Edelgard, Dedue, or maybe Ignatz would bring in the puzzle box, I'm not entirely sure who, but what I DO know is that Sylvain is responsible for "Just open the box, you p***y" and Byleth calmly stands, motions him over, and pulls him outside to chastise him while the entire class watches in disbelief/horror.
Ingrid brings in the laminator. It's by far her proudest moment in the competition.
MISC NOTES
Edelgard would be like Victoria Coren Mitchell: She'd keep trying to apply reason to the tasks, with mixed results, but on certain things (that may or may not even help her in the competition) I think she'd shine. Like when Victoria calculated everyone's scores in her head before Alex and Greg did, or when she taught herself how to ride a bike on camera just to complete the task.
Dimitri would just try to have a good time, but the assistant would need so many extra props because he'd end up breaking a lot of the materials. He would do excellent on all the food tasks though. In "Eat this egg the fastest" he'd just break it on the counter and swallow it raw.
Claude would get caught out by the two-part tasks every time because he'd try to be so clever working on Part 1 that it'd end up fucking him over. He'd make the obscenely tall chocolate sandwich for "make the most exotic sandwich" only for the second task to say he now has to eat all of it as fast as possible.
Felix mockingly saying "All the information is on the task" becomes a meme. Most of his tasks are crumpled from all the times he's clenched his fist in anger.
Leonie + Hilda on a team = Ed Gamble + David Baddiel. "Can I just check, have I been put on a team with Hilda Valentine Goneril?"
Solo tasks: The TM would probably want to give all the house leaders unique tasks, e.g. making Edelgard count all the beans in a can or Dimitri send him 500 cheeky texts. But I think Felix, Ferdinand, Hilda, Sylvain, or Lorenz getting extra tasks would be best for entertainment value. I think Felix is the only one who might be a sore loser about it, but god it'd be funny (even Lorenz might laugh it off if he sees it ~endears him to the public~ or something).

Who the Baldur's Gate 3 characters would s-rank playing Fire Emblem Three Houses
Astarion: He chooses Black Eagles, since he's a huge supporter of women's wrongs, and naturally he sides with Edelgard, because, again, huge supporter of women's wrongs. That being said, the character he attaches to is Dorothea. Dorothea is his girl. She goes to every fight, gets all the best equipment, gets all the stat boosters (regardless of how little sense it makes) and by the end she is practically solo-ing the game. Naturally, he s-ranks her.
Gale: He goes Blue Lions, because "Dimitri seems like such a nice boy." He learns from Astarion that you can end up marrying one of your units, but the idea of marrying one of his students (even post timeskip) makes Gale very uncomfortable. Fortunately, he finds a faculty character he likes and wants to s-rank. Unfortunately, he learns far too late that you cannot s-rank Seteth as a male Byleth. He ends up s-ranking Shamir because she's the only other female faculty member he had enough support rank with. He likes Shamir well enough, but that's not who he had his heart set on.
Wyll: Also chooses Blue Lions. He knows who he wants to s-rank early, but about mid-way through his playthrough learns from Gale that you cannot s-rank Seteth as a male Byleth. He also learns from both Astarion and Gale that characters can get paired ending with each other, and he starts REALLY getting into shipping his team together. He has full on shipping charts. In the end, there's really no room for his Byleth in his Shipping Plans, so he remains single (also he's a little bitter about the Seteth thing)
Karlach: Goes Golden Deer, because she thinks Claude is funny. By and large she doesn't take the game too seriously, and doesn't really care about who she's going to s-rank. Initially she thought she would s-rank Claude, but decides on Seteth instead so Wyll can watch their paired ending.
Shadowheart: Black Eagles girl. She's not super into anything in the game at first, but once she realizes what Edelgard's Deal(tm) is? Oh she is the biggest Edelstan. Going on Faerun Twitter screaming about how Edelgard Did Nothing Wrong. That kind of Edelstan. Obviously she s-ranks Edelgard.
Lae'zel: Edelgard is only one of the three lords she can stand, so Black Eagles it is. The thing, she isn't very good at the game and refuses to get any help (and insists on playing the game on a higher difficulty than she should), so it is slow and painful going for her. Also, she gets bored of the monastery segments and starts never exploring the monastery. This unfortunately means that she misses that one event with Edelgard and is locked into the church route. This disgusts her so much she just stops playing.
Jaheira: She doesn't really know how to play the game, so Karlach guides her through it. Naturally, Karlach has to rep her team, the Golden Deer, so that's the route Jaheira plays. And she doesn't care who she s-ranks, so Karlach chooses for her (decides on Claude.) Honestly, this is mostly just Karlach playing the game for Jaheira.
Halsin: Also has Karlach helping (and goes Golden Deer because of that) but does start playing on his own soon enough. He's not really interested in whole "s-rank" thing, but discovers that you can s-rank Alois, which piques Halsin's curiosity, because Alois is, ya know, married. So he chooses Alois to see if polyamory is in the game. It's not. He's a little disappointed, but oh well.
Minsc: He accidentally breaks the switch in half :(

Hey foibds (if I may be so casual), ik your nominally a Talanah/Aloy shipper but I while ago for an ask I asked about your thoughts on seyka/alva, and was asked to remind you about it at some stage. This is that stage.
YEAH OF COURSE CONSIDER:
so like--in reuniting the fleet, Seyka and Alva speaking to one another more freely given their connection of knowing Aloy. Alva divulging that she's been quietly giving Focuses to some of the soldiers and sailors at Landfall, teaching them how to use them, asking for Seyka's help to continue their own little rebellion amongst a larger rebellion, and possibly to take it to full fruition. Seyka seeing, through her budding relationship with Alva, that 1) not all Diviners are zealous secret-keepers and 2) there is a way to specifically be Quen while moving onto another path.
This latter point is especially important in my mind, as I feel the BS writing didn't do a good job of defining or backing Seyka's growing ambivalence towards her tribe. Alva could have a huge hand in showing her how to sort through and assimilate the particular aspects of Quen culture which are of value, and reject the ones that aren't.
Combine this with the Drama (TM) of staunch imperial loyalist Federa coming into the picture--as we need a human enemy for H3, and the loyalists could fit that bill pretty perfectly--and, well. You've got a juicy little story happening.
