honestly i think when saki gets her fes card it'll probably be paired with luka. that would still make it uneven but i think it's more probable than her + miku, even if miku getting a 3rd fes card *would* make everyone else even. so, minoshizu nye fes, saki luka 3.5, emukasa june? july is l/n world link so saki would have to be 3.5. wxs's world link is in march so that makes emukasa not work. that is unless prsk devs decide to throw any semblance of schedule left to trash. hopefully they don't

tbh i'm tempted to say saki will be paired with ichika. hear me out, it makes sense for saki to be paired with a l/n member more than a vsinger, but also, ichikas fes was counted as an anniversary card along with the fan festa cards and she was event bonus despite only being the fes. Her getting two fes cards wouldn’t surprise me either bc like. Face of advertising privilege again.

I think we need to let go of the idea of units completing their fes before WLE. Like, the fes is not plot relevance to the WLEs really. I guess there was a slight reference to Mafuyu’s (the book, although it wasn’t the same one) and Kanade’s another cut referenced hers, but then again that wasn’t even a song commissioned for the event. We’ll see what happens though I guess.

I heavily doubt Tsukasa being on the NYE fes. Partially bc of sanrio Emu but also just because he was rateup on 3 fes banners in the past year. Saki we can rule out as well. Which leaves minoshizu which does work based on the 2 month gap rule. Unless they pull the rug out from underneath everyone and do tkem fes because “sanrio lims aren’t real lims bc they don’t have hairstyles” or wtv. Bc that’s kinda true actually and all the 2*s count as lims as well. These are just… collab cards. Which the evillious ones were too but they at least had hairstyles. It’s still a punch to the stomach for emu fans if they did that though so like I wonder if they would. It’s not quite back to back though and there are instances of them doing normal card->other event->lim card (ichika).

For the fes I’m tempted to say minoshizu->tsukaemu->ichisaki (my gut says upcoming honami banner could be ichihona lims but I haven’t quite worked it out yet) though they could just decide they hate everyone (again) and do tkem->mnsz->icsk.

I reckon the sanrio collab will get rerun eventually. Like there’s a lot of cards, I feel like it would be really unfair to players to not give them a second chance esp since I think it’s gonna be really hard to get them all first try unless you have a lot of gems you’re willing to throw away.

Yes, he is incredibly handsome, that's a fact. I wasn't a big fan at the beginning, he was cute but I didn't feel the connextion on the emotional level. He seemed to have kind of generic "main protagonist's personality". However, it got better later in the show. Lee Min-Ho showed some acting skills and I really rooted for king Lee Gon at the end. I think he really fits the role, he looks very regal :)

I am once again back on my tkem bullshit - this time about our favourite Seventh-Grade Official, Maximus!

Sadly, I am not answering my longstanding question about whether Maximus is meant to be a boy or a girl (Maximus is played by a male horse and is referred to as “he” in the English subs at the beginning of the show, but Nari writes on her sign “she’s gone..” in regards to Maximus and from that moment on Maximus is referred to as “she” in the English subs - I love consistency T_T) HOWEVER I will be answering the question about Maximus’ breed.

First, I found this on a post about Benjamin, Maximus’ actor, on the Kim’s Horse Naver blog:

Though the font style is tricky for someone like me who does not speak Korean, I think I can pretty firmly say that the second line reads “품종: 벨기에 온혈 종” or “Breed: Belgian Warmblood” (The ending 종 threw me off, but I think it just means “species” in this content, because 온혈 is apparently “warm-blooded.”)

So that’s Benjamin’s breed… but Maximus is meant to be a rare Spanish breed. Back to google, then.

Long story short, I think I’ve found a suitable candidate. Though I’m not a horse person in any way, I at least know that white horses with black noses (like Benjamin/Maximus) are grey, and according to my (admittedly brief) research, Andalusian horses are often grey. They’re known as the “Pure Spanish Horse,” but there’s a sub-strain within the Andalusian breed called a Carthusian, and these are said to be the purest of the Andalusian horses. Nowadays there are only about 500 Carthusian horses left in Spain, so I’m going to go out on a limb and assume they’re pretty rare. Further backing up the Andalusian theory is the fact that many European warmbloods have Andalusian ancestry, so Benjamin might not be such a distant relation to the Andalusians.

So that’s my hypothesis - Maximus is meant to be a grey Carthusian, rare even in Spain, so it makes sense that Maximus would have had to have been specially imported to be the only one of their kind in Corea.

What is the work you've made with the angstiest ending? - Fic: All my fics are neutral or positive endings (I think?) - Vid: this TKEM AU where Yeong dies - Podfic: I enjoy narrating big emotions so I have a lot of people-cry-in-this-fic grief/angst and self worth issues stories but often they end on at least an uplifting note. Possibly something in Attack on Titan or X-Men had a and-they-stay-sad ending but I can’t remember something specific to for-sure point at.

What's the work you've made with the happiest ending? So many happy endings (both the emotional kind and the porn kind). I’m not sure I could point to a ‘happiest’ since a lot of them are very happy.

Do you get hate on your works? I’ve had some weird comments but not particularly hate, hopefully that will continue to be true.

Do you create smut? Yup, at least with podfic and fic.

Craziest crossover? I wrote a heralds of valdemar / lord of the rings fic when I was just starting out in fandom.

Have you ever had a work stolen? I hope not.

Have you ever had a work inspired by your works? Very excitingly, people have made vids inspired by my vids which is the absolute coolest thing (Nothing by @nubreed73, and Mei Changsu is Climbing the Mountain by @sandalwoodbox)

I have had fic translated, which is neat.

People have made podfics of my fic which is just delightful and makes me so, so happy as a fellow podficcer.

Have you co-recorded/co-written/co-vidded before? I’ve done a podfic collab where we co-wrote the story together and then recorded the story together. I’ve been part of multivoice collabs of things I did not participate in writing for with both in-person/live recording and recorded separately then edited together. I’ve also done oral not!fic collabs.

All time favorite ship? I can't decide. I tend to have one OTP per fandom I'm into, but see fandom list it's too long to pick just one ship.

What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will? I’ve got a variety of old files for fics I never got a permission response on that will just live in my computer forever. Some are complete, some needing editing, some are partially completed and all abandoned due to lack of response. I learned my lesson and now do not record unless I have already received permission or the author has BP.

What are your podficcing/writing/vidding strengths? - Podfic: Consistency? Enthusiasm. Emotion (I hope).

Thoughts on dialogue in another language? For podfic I try! Sometimes I don’t know what I don’t know (see past mispronunciation of French where I thought I knew what I was doing T_T). But having been in into anime, c-dramas, k-dramas, and a variety of fandoms with various languages involved I know I will give it my best shot, possibly fail, and it will take me 2-3x as long to record, but sometimes I can be proud of what I’ve come up with on the far end and that’s nice. Forvo, google translate, and finding friends/acquaintances I know who speak the language have all be helpful.

Favorite work you've made? - Podfic: The Ion Arc by Sunhawk - I started recording this Gundam Wing story in 2008 and finished in 2019 and it clocks in at over 80 hours. This was my labor of love for just over a decade and will always hold a very important place in my heart. Have I re-listened to it, no. Do I think it’s the best podfic I’ve ever made, probably not, doesn’t matter, still my favorite. - Vid: I’m not sure how to pick so I’ll just go with my co-vid with @sandalwoodbox Hug Cats! - Fic: I’ll follow the consensus and say The Rock and The River for this.

I've had a bunch of comments on Skies Above Are Blue this past week, and I'm not sure where those are coming from, but it did remind me I need to port my assorted Tumblr fic over to AO3! I'll be working on that this week.

On the off chance anyone is still following me here for fic, I haven't posted any lately, but I have several things in the works waiting for my semester to end so I can finish/edit and post them:

• three 40k-each-ish Stranger Things Steve/Eddie fics, all of which are, um, AUs:

- a domestic roommates futurefic story set in the 90s

- a s4 finale AU in which Steve and Eddie are ghosts(?) but they're fine! everything is fine

- a third one I'm excited about but keeping under wraps for now

• OFMD fic from last summer? the new season might beat me there, in which case I will probably sit on it until I've seen how s2 goes, because it is a full AU drawing on a lot of historical pirates the show hasn't gotten into yet

• The West Wing (yes, TWW, in the year 2023) fic which is my current academic stress avoidance hyperfixation project and thus is at 60k and steadily climbing!

- an AU that branches off of canon about a decade before the show starts, and is a reworking of seasons 6 & 7 plus a few years after

- the main pairing is Josh Lyman/Matt Santos, but along the way this turned into a sprawling many-pov fix-it of sorts that won't stop growing? so who knows how long it will ultimately be

so that's me rn, also a bunch of vid wips for Kinnporsche and Thor and TKEM and other things! vids! also probably waiting for summer break, but someday: fic and vids.

This scene is just breathtaking. Lee Gon arriving in a parallel universe for the first time. The music and direction as he takes in the strange but familiar city, they make you feel the enormity of the situation. It is already a lot - and then suddenly, he sees her. The woman he has been looking for during these last 25 years, whose face has become a symbol for his survival and which has kept him company trying to process that horrific night. The night that took away his only remaining parent, but which he for some unexplainable reason survived. His only clues being a face he can barely remember and an ID-badge which doesn’t make any sense.

I have SO MUCH to say but before any of that can I just say, without any exaggeration, that The King has one of the most satisfying series finales that I have ever watched! 

They did justice with ALL the characters and took more than 50% of the finale just wrapping things up and wrapping them well. I think that’s very rare because usually shows, kdramas and otherwise, just rush the end and give us one happy scene and that’s that. But no, The King took it’s time and it felt very fair and right. 

Okay, now for everything else. 

2020 has seen some very great kdramas and if I had to talk about The King in that context, I can’t say it’s my favourite. I enjoyed Itaewon Class and Crash Landing On You way better. There’s really no comparison between them and The King. But I still waited for the new episodes every Friday and Saturday for the last 1.5 months and I’d say that it’s definitely worth it.

First off, I loved the theory of the parallel universes. Though it was less science based and more legend based. What I really appreciated was that the parallel universe with the King was not some old, ancient place that doesn’t know what cell phones are. No, it was literally the same world in terms of the time and progressiveness. So, that was quite refreshing! 

My favourite parts were every time people from the two universes crossed paths and found out about the existence of the parallel world and their counter-part. They each had a different reaction, experience and consequence but each was fun nonetheless. For instance, Jo Eun Sup and Jo Yeong had such a different relationship and storyline as opposed to Kang Shin Jae and Kang Hyun Min. 

Another thing that struck me was, and I don’t know if others will agree with me or not, but I didn’t particularly enjoy or care about the romance between the leads. Don’t get me wrong - I really liked both the leads individually and together. However, their romance isn’t one that gave me any feels. It was definitely not the highlight of the show for me. There were certain cute scenes for sure though

Talking about the leads. So can I just take a moment to fan girl about Lee Min Ho? He is the cutest. I think if I had to pick a favourite kdrama actor - just by like the shows they have played the vibes their personality gives me - it would have to be Lee Min Ho. And then Lee Jong Suk. 

And Kim Go Eun! It’s really because of her and Lee Min Ho that I began watching this kdrama. Not because of them together or their chemistry but them individually! I think both of them are brilliant actors.

One thing I really appreciate about the leads is that they are smart, strong, confident, with a sense of duty and a whole of maturity and self respect and have super strong and healthy boundaries. The rules they came up with - how they wouldn’t ask the other ti stay, etc, etc just goes to show that. And it’s not like Jung Tae-Eul has to sacrifice her life and job just because Lee Gon is the king. Not once in the whole kdrama did Lee Gon try to be like, ‘hey, I’m more important than you are so you must be the one to leave behind your universe.’

While the romance was meh, the bromance was another thing. Yes, Lee Gon and Jo Yeong! Oh my god. Right from that childhood scene (so fucking sad and adorable) to that final scene when they both enter together at the night of treason holding their guns. And can I just say that that entry scene of Peha and his unbreakable sword outdid the iconic entry scene from Goblin. 

Also the subtle bromance between Jo Eun Sup and Jo Yeong was cute.

Luna. I really liked her! Right from her name to the way she was with the homeless child - who bloody turned out to be the Manpasikjeok (right? Or was it destiny or are they the same things here?). It was really an excellent portrayal of how people are often victims of the system and society they are born into and often when you see someone and think, ‘Wow, I’d never do that or be that person’ it’s essential to remember that if we were in their shoes with the lack of choices and privilege they had, then we’d literally end up doing the exact same thing in all probability.

Side characters such as the Head court lady, the crown prince, Secretary Mo, Prime Minister Koo’s mother, etc. were really charming and add a layer of warmth and wholesomeness to the show.

Another striking thing about The King that I quite liked was how Lee Gon is Lee Gon with Jung Tae-Eul. Like he, as a king, didn’t really show any narcissism, entitlement, toxic masculinity, etc. Not even at the beginning like most male leads tend to show.

I also really liked how Lee Gon didn't get everything right in the first time - in trying to fix the night of the treason. Or second. That he wasn't perfect. That he struggled.

Coming back the the extremely satisfying series finale - I loved how none of them settled for the counter-part of their loved one in their own universe or even tried to interact with them. I loved how neither of them asked the other to come over to their universe forever and leave behind their world. I like how they kept that agreement intact because you know you can follow your destiny without making yourself the ones you love miserable in that process. I think they achieved the one thing that’s crucial for us all in life - balance.
