Excerpt from Caitlin Moran’s The Time Magazine article (Sept 2024)

There is an emotional support dog on set - of course there is. An ice-cream van turns up at 2pm - burly crew members walk around the grounds eating tiny pink strawberry cones, looking delighted. And, for reasons I never fully discover, someone has a ferret on a lead. As I wander around the gigantic mansion, I bump into various cast members, who all seem overjoyed to be there. Claire Rushbrook, who plays Monica Baddingham - Tony Baddingham's posh, tolerant wife - is in the orangery, having her makeup done, eating a scone. "I mean, we are doing acting," she says. "I want to make that clear. But... it is also enormous fun." When it comes to the atmosphere on set, I later talk to David Tennant about this subject. "Yes - there was a lot of due diligence about only having... joyful people on set. Crew and cast," Tennant says, carefully. Dominic Treadwell-Collins [ producer ] is more forthright. "We had a very strict 'no arseholes' policy," he says. "We did a lot of research. On EastEnders, some of [the cast] were really unpleasant; rotten apples who ruined it. For Rivals, we talked to producers and agents off the record, and if they said, 'He's a marvelous actor - but also a wanker,' or 'He'll be amazing, but he did beat up a girlfriend ten years ago,' we just didn't cast them. Lots of people [in television] will put up with it. We were like, 'Life's too short.' Also, if you've got David Tennant on the call sheet, he's such a genuinely lovely, kind, decent man - and that flows down through everyone else.

Fuck me and fuck my life. Started reading dark rise last night promising myself that hey just ten chapters then I'll go to sleep and then go and do my homework due the next day.

Now it's the next day and I've had no sleep and I just binged read Dark Rise and Dark Heir. I feel like I've transcended into a higher state and holy hell mf I think I wanna die.

I have my homework due today which I haven't started yet. Classes in two hours. An upcoming presentation next week. Another project due on Saturday. And all I could think about is Will and James and how much they fucked me over.

God this is why I shouldn't make decisions past 10 pm....

I don't want to see Luca anywhere near Sydney in season 4.

If sydcarmy is happening, I don't want no romantic or platonic (pft) storyline with Luca for Syd.

For one, it makes no sense to spend time on a relationship that's going to end. And highkey, I especially wouldn't like if a romance happened only for there to be parallels to Carmen, or Luca is presented as a good viable option for Syd, only for her to get with Carmen anyway.

At this point, I just want the show to give sydcarmy or get the hell away lol. I'm over the multi-channel gaslighting of it not being there in the show and the parallels that many hope are actually going to mean something by the time the show ends.

Syd, Marcus, Ebra, Tina, Gary (and Manny and Angel that won't be getting any screen time atp) haven't got the time I think they deserve (Syd in particular, for the second main character where tf was she in S3? S2 I understand, but for real wtf was that?). That time would be better spent on them rather than a short-lived, reprieve-centred fling for Syd imo.

I wrote a post a while ago regarding sydcarmy after S3 and I still more or less agree with what I said, but in terms of plot, if Sydney is going to struggle along with Carmen when she chooses to stay at the bear, that's perfectly fine. But I don't want anymore ambiguity, "up to interpretation" bs when it comes to them. At least give me the opportunity to wave a satisfied fist in the air with blatant, confirmed romance between them at least, so I can say "the sydcarmy shippers told yall so", even if I don't particularly want it the same way.

One look at sky young and I know she's got to have a hidden piercing. My heart wants to say bellybutton but my soul wants to say nip piercing. You cannot tell me that girl is from Zaun, stayed down there for longer, and had this completely shy and cutesy demeanor with angelic beautiful eyes with no metal. Maybe not even a nipple piercing but a healed over one. I don't see her having some extreme body modifications but a very demure little jewel. Maybe a vague scar on her nose or something since she gives that early 2000s energy.

I think she definitely tried to hide it when in office with the boys given her internalized fear of being seen as trashy or lesser than even an assistant...but Viktor knows what's up. He's from Zaun too and knows she's covering something via cosmetics. Maybe not Jayce since he could care less but I just love the idea that when she came back in the HexCore, Viktor (maybe even subconsciously) gave her whatever piercing she had back ALDKFKFKSK.
