I think spn fic writers are sleeping on writing time travel fics to the 40s-50s when American Men of Letters were still alive, and exploring Sam and Dean's relationship with Henry, and even meeting Henry's father, and MOL being shocked by the future and by the boys' behavior like Henry was when he traveled to the future, and Sam and Dean hating MOL because of their strict hierarchy and like restricted access to the knowledge depending on your rank, which will INFURIATE Sam... So many unexplored possibilities... Someone write a fic I'm beggin'

How Seasons 8-10 could have been GOOD
Season 8
Nix the angel-on-angel violence. Been there, done that, bought the trenchcoat
None of the heavenly trials BS
Henry shows up in episode 2 or 3 with Abaddon in tow.
The brothers work with Henry trying to stop Abaddon and find Kevin, interspersed with monster-of-the-week episodes.
Dean is too preoccupied with Abaddon and Henry to bitch at Sam for logically believing Dean was at peace in Heaven
Abaddon vs Crowley
Demon politics
Winchesters + Kevin and Crowley reluctantly working together and trying to outwit each other
(Sam and Dean having a home and grandfather/father figure!)
(Henry adjusting to 21st century culture and technology!)
(Kevin teaching him how to use computers)
(Linda Tran. That is all.)
(Audience actually getting attached to Henry because he's not KILLED OFF IN HIS FIRST EPISODE)
Abaddon kills Henry in the season finale
Season 9
Monster of the week opening
Supernatural Intro
Henry's funeral
(See what I did there)
The boys are back, and this time, they're out for blood
Crowley introduces the boys to Cain mid-season
Dean takes the Mark to avenge their grandfather over Sam's objection
The Mark's effect on Dean progressively getting worse
Dean and Abaddon both die in the climactic season finale battle. Dean gives Sam the same speech
Same end scene with Crowley and Deanmon
Season 10
The Suite Life of Deanmon and Crowley
(Deanmon is gathering supporters for a coup)
(Your king had to rely on a Winchester to take out his opposition)
Charlie stealing the Book of the Damned from the Styne family
Rowena and Crowley
Charlie and Kevin: nerd bros
Deanmon escapes from the devil's trap
He slices his own arm and offers to let Sam drink his blood.
He apologizes for how he treated Sam. How he reacted to his abilities, to the demon blood. He was the monster, not Sam
It's everything Sam ever wanted to hear
(and it's devastating because it's not really Dean saying it)
"No," Sam says. "This isn't you talking."
Aren't you tired of losing people, Sam? Deanmon asks.
Every time we end one threat, something bigger and badder follows
They can change that if they rule Hell
Only souls that actually deserve to be in Hell will be tormented
"Take it," he urges, holding out his arm
Castiel to the rescue
Dean is asleep in his room after being cured
Sam and Castiel are in the kitchen
"Are you alright, Sam?" Cas asks
"Yes." He shakes his head. "No. I..." He turns puppy dog eyes on the angel. "I wasn't going to take it."
"I know." Cas says. He reassures Sam he trusts him, that he's proud of him
Sam embraces him
"You're supposed to hug back, Cas."
"Oh." And he does.
Dean is cured, but the Mark is still there
Styne evilness
Charlie dies
Dean's killing spree
The Mark is removed
Out of the frying pan and into the fire

Supernatural S04E03 In The Beginning
Wait a minute.. Dean finds out the man next to him in the diner is John because John's acquaintance Mr. D calls him Winchester. Just as Mr. D is about to leave he says "Say hello to your old man for me." Now, remind me again, didn't John's old man, Henry Winchester die or whatever when John was 4? Which old man is Mr. D referring to? We never hear John mention a step dad. So I guess there were massive holes in Henry Winchester's plot then
Dean nudging John to buy the Chevy 67. Love the touch of origin story for the car!
Mitch is so much younger here than in Walker..
Ok so.. the YED says that he's making deals because he needs permission to be invited to their houses.. kinda weird.. but it got me thinking.. in earlier seasons when the show explained the whole shebang behind the YED's special children, it says not all kids saw the same fate as the Winchesters.. so people are making random deals without realising that?? That easy?? Really??!!
okay why am I only seeing this now? Jessica kinda looks like Mary! I guess you really attract your parents in your partners (oh take your minds out of the gutter.. that's not what I meant)

(this post doesn't really have a point, just fyi lol)
i've never been a science fiction fan until recently so i'll probably say some stuff and people will be "she's so ignorant" and perhaps they'll be right but i've gotta say it:
time travels in fiction are both super-interesting and extremely boring in the sense that ultimately they all seem to agree on the principle that the past cannot be changed while the future can be re-written and i'm like: meh. what if it's the future that cannot be changed while the past can be? or, better, what if it's the future that controls the narrative of the past? and what about time travellers? all these characters travelling through time and that doesn't change them. like, they're not exactly affected by it. they're still the same.
i remember once i was in middle school and my class went to a conference about i don't remember what and one person at the conference told us a story about an astronaut coming back home from space and the wife was terrified because it was him but it wasn't him at the same time. he was transformed.
it was an amazing horror story. i don't know if it's from a book or a real fact or what but this little story has stuck with me ever since.
so for instance the spn episode "as time goes by" is kinda cool because it takes a different view on the grandfather paradox since it's the grandafather travelling through time to the future rather than his nephews to the past.
however, novikov self-consistency principle is still respected precisely because the grandfather cannot go back in time and change it, aka grandpa must die.
now, if you consider that ultimately spn takes the god is author route you kinda have to make the assumption that it's not the past that matters but the future. as in: god has a planned future that he can never really write and this is what influences the narrative (the past). the story keeps changing and modifying itself because it doesn't want that telos, that future and in this light apocalypse would never happen in spn because the narrative rejects what is supposed to be written but it's never written because they keep changing the script.
this means that henry winchester going back in time would not change the narrative since the telos is already in god's mind and chuck would bend multiple rules and change worlds just to see his future really happening.
so dean and sam preventing henry from going back to john really means that they are the ones who have condemned their father to be fatherless with no real reason because they would be born no matter what (as per god's planned story that he couldn't really write but that he kept editing).
also, all stories seem to tend to a telos, to that ending that's so difficult to write so if you want to feel edgy you use a cycle-structure and you go back to square one but is this fair? (i ask myself while writing something having the cycle-structure in mind, btw i keep writing this cause i don't know the english word for it but i mean a story that has the shape of a cycle lol). this seems to convey the following message: we can't change the past AND we can't write the future we want THEREFORE we will just repeat the past but we will use different ingredients. Or, we will write an unsatisfying ending where everybody is unrealistically happy or conveniently dead.
it seems to me that the past can't be changed because we think it can can't be changed and so the stories are always the same and we keep re-telling them because we're not getting what they want to tell us. i think they're telling us that we can change them, they are actually there to be changed. like, the past wants to be changed.
the grandpa wants to go back in time and be with his son, let him go!!!
(woah. this is a convoluted post. if you're still here i think we can be friends)

About 1x07 Reflections...
MILLIE: I can't lose him the way I did Henry. ADA: John isn't closed off the way Henry was.
An, Henry. A lot idealistic, a lot duty-driven... and by all accounts a little closed off emotionally.
///
Tumblr media
MILLIE: I could always read your dad's writing because I knew the context... Shopping lists, bills paid... Love letters.
So, while we-the-audience see evidence of Henry's love, especially how he talks to his co-workers about Millie and John, to his loved ones and friends, Henry could be quite literally, "hard to read." ///
MILLIE: You're kidding, right? Your father's chicken scratch is the key to saving the world?
That sounds like "pierce thought the veil of death and save the day" kinda love, hehe.
///
Anyway.
There was a breakdown in their communication.
After their fight about his frankly dangerous and soul-sucking career, Millie thought Henry walked out on her, that he fell out of love with her and never came back.
Not for her, not even for John.
SPNwin is her journey to peace, both in understanding more completely the principles of protection that motivated Henry (see: the protective jasmine on her shop) and finding out that his leaving wasn't so simple, that he loved her and John all along.
He didn't just leave her. He died.
She's making peace with so much of her life.
All she ever wanted was for her loved ones to stay.
Tumblr media
///
So, when Henry shows up briefly as a ghost in SPNwin, Millie is struck speechless...
MILLIE: Henry... HENRY: Millie. Know that I love you. Both of you. MILLE: (stares, nodding slowly, speechless)
Back in 1x02, she said this:
MILLLIE: But your dad and I had this rule. Whenever we fought, no matter how bad it got, we had to find a way to tell each other after, "I love you". And we followed our rule that day and... and you can tell. The last fight we had, the day he walked out the door, you know what neither of us stopped to tell each other? (regretful look to John) We're always gonna have our fights and I'm always gonna worry about my baby, but I am never gonna let you walk out that door again without telling you I love you.
Perhaps after seeing Henry's ghost she regretted not saying aloud, "I love you."
But on closer inspection, she says "find a way to tell each other." So, perhaps that, while Henry was prone to love letters/poetry/grand gestures of love and duty (i.e. his idealistic choice of MoL work), Millie may have told him in other ways. Through care, small acts, or nonverbal cues.
Like in the goodbye scene. With her eyes.

Henry Winchester should have lived. It was stupid and cowardly to kill him off. Another wasted plot that they could have made into something great.
He should have learned that he has a third grandson, one who isn't a hunter. He should have championed to get Adam out of hell when they sprung Lucifer to kill the Darkness.
He should have been around when Mary came back. To give her someone who understands what it's like to be flung into the far, fucked up future when just a moment ago you were living your perfect life. To bond with over knowing a version of John Winchester who no one else knew.
He should have gotten a full story line when the British men of letters showed up, and been forced to recon his world view and love for his organization with what it had become.
(He should have gotten to hook up with Ketch. Mary can still kill him though)
Just. Henry Winchester.

Not-Yet-Written-Fics Game
Tagged by @fishing4stars to reveal my not-yet-written fics.
This is fantastic actually the amount of things I have on the back burner is HUGE I'll have to pick and choose, oh dear.
For Your Life Hate Me (Twilight) As story about Carlisle and Jasper (very self indulgent) where they get kidnaped by María and forced to fight (like in Jasper's old days). To keep Carlisle alive Jasper is forced to do some not nice things that horrify Carlisle but he'll do them to keep the man who took him in safe, even if Carlisle hates Jasper in the end.
The Adventures of Young Man Henry Winchester and his Violent Grandsons (Supernatural) Henry Winchester survives his death by Abadon! And now he has to get used to modern life without his family. It is extremely painful and sometimes his grandsons are no help. The start of their relationship is very rocky but it'll eventually lead to better days. I'm very fond of this one.
It's The Ashy Taste Of Sacrifice (One Piece) Sanji and Zoro get turned into animals and (spoilers) in the end Sanji has to bear the brunt of this happening and suffer a life as a fox. The premise is silly but I promise you the contents are not. I am making this boy SUFFER and that is just a universal constant. Full of platonic friendship and hurt/comfort ✨And Zoro being a better bro to Sanji.
To Look Like Her (One Piece) And to keep up with the point before. This is a story about Sanji self sabotaging his body because he realizes that when he's sick he looks like his mother and he wants to KEEP that look. It does not end well for anyone. The Straw Hats get rightfully very pissed and concerned about this.
Mending The Tears One Spoonful At The Time (Sam Rami Spider-man) This is just a whole ass ploy to better the friendship between Peter and Harry. Harry realizes something is off with Peter when he notices his friend is ALWAYS hungry. When Harry offers help Peter's pride gets in the way and Harry has to devise ways to secretly help Peter.
Homeward Bound From The Sea (Frozen) Frozen AU where Agnarr survives the shipwreck but is lost for some years in an island until he's eventually found by a fishing-ship. He gets rescued and returned home but things are hard for father and daughters equally. Full of Agnarr!whump and everyone having to adapt to this new reality. Kind of non-verbal Agnarr in this one.
When Doriath Fell (Silmarillion/Tolkien) AU where Dior and Elured and Elurin survive BUT actually Dior did die he just came back wrong. So Dior raises his children as a feral creatures in the forest surrounding Menegroth. But Elured and Elurin sort of have to take care of their father as well because the man is not well. Of course, this thing is full of angst what did you expect?
The Price Of Freedom (Sandman) Hob rescues Dream from the fishbowl of doom and Dream thinks he needs to repay him with devotion and love (just like he did with Alianora). Surprisingly shippy but not really? HobxDream is not endgame at any rate, but Dream is convinced that's how he needs to repay his friend for saving him. Very angsty, the sky is blue, next.
Reverse 'Verse (Firefly) Another AU (of course) where instead of River being taken and brainwashed it is Simon who becomes the mortal weapon/assassin. And in turn it is River who has to take care of him and escape. Lots of sibiling feels.
I have so many, so so many, but i better not drag them up into the surface less I get tempted into working on them XD but here are some honorable mentions of ofter fandoms I have wips in: SPD Power Rangers (don't laugh), Batman, Hocus Pocus and a ton for Criminal Minds.
If you feel like asking about any of these drop me an ask and I might feel inclined to doodle something about it 😂
