Hey lovelies! First of all! Happy S2 Anniversary!

I know this is a day late, sorry about that! There's been a lot of chatter over some of the things that David said yesterday-- some folks took it as OFMD was not getting an s3, some people took it as still quite hopeful! I gotta say, I'm loving how much it's given us all something to focus on again. We get to celebrate OFMD-- we get to speculate. I realize it's not a "hey s3 is happening!" but it's hopeful, and what is life without hope? It's kraken era, it's gravy basket, and HOPE is what pulls us OUT of those places! So go out and clown/honk and celebrate if you want to! Take every tweet from David as a good thing! If you don't want to-- that's okay too! But with so many months of "hey we've reached the end of the road" looming over us, it feels like a good thing to think there's going to "most if not all of us would do it again in a heartbeat". This fandom wears hope well, at least I think so. Alright, I'm already late so I'm gonna shush. I hope you all had a lovely anniversary, and the beginning of this week treats you with nothing but kindness lovelies. Take care of yourselves <3

Hello!

Wanted to get your thoughts on Elain not fitting into Night Court because per Cassian she is drowned out by “Night Court Black”? This also came up when Elain did not wear Illyrian leathers. One of the podcasts that I listen to (though mind you are very much in love with the red haired characters of the books, though they try to keep is unbiased) mentioned this. To me this has always been a bit of a faulty argument, especially about the Illyrian leathers because of course she would not want to wear that. Nesta was the same way. Cassian thinking that was an interesting way to word it—Mor nor Amgen regularly wear black yet he points this specifically out about Night Court. People tend to think well that must be it..Elain belongs in Day or Spring. Personally, I think SJM is perhaps pointing her to a different court all together—>Dusk perhaps???? Or it means absolutely nothing and Cassian is just oblivious to everyone except Nesta, despite the podcasters constantly talking about his emotional intelligence.

The 'black dress' comment has been addressed many times, and I can go back and kind of regurgitate the same info:

it's not the Night Court, it's specifically Hewn City

the plain black dress was there for a reason. To take all attention from her, and place it all on Nesta.

Elain volunteered HERSELF to go to Hewn City and play this role. She stated that she was 'part of this court' and would do what's necessary.

This is all canon and all in the book. So like I said, I am not going to regurgitate this info because the rebuttal of their arguments is already in there.

However, the Illyrian leathers thing is interesting.

Feyre stated that Elain possessed a 'different kind of strength' and SJM, in one of her interviews, said the same. Elain's strength, her powers are not connected to her abilities as a fighter. That's why she won't become a warrior. She is not a Blade. She is a loaf of bread. She is a flower. She is a rose in a mud field. She is a slice of cake. She is home. She is life. She is love. Her strength is that she does what is necessary, even if it's violent and cruel, and then she walks away. She doesn't dwell on it and doesn't take pride in causing pain.

However, unlike all of them, ELain was the only one who didn't need Illyrian leathers to deliver the most devastating blow of all--she stabbed the king. She didn't need any physical power to make a huge difference in the war--first by Seeing Vassa, who came in and destroyed the navy, and then by finding the Suriel with her Seer's Eyes, and through the Suriel, Amren learned how to shed her 'skin' and how to come to full power, thus developing a devastating blow to Hybern.

Elain has never been and hopefully will not be about fighting, slicing and dicing. Elain fully lives into the Nephelle philosophy. The weakest, the most 'insignificant' person can make the most difference. Nephelle with her too small wings, with her lack of physical powers also made a tremendous amount of difference in the previous War.

Cassian, the great warrior, the general, all clad in Illyrian leathers was no match for the King of Hybern. No matter his training, his physicality, his strength, he still fell, and was ready to die. But then Elain stepped out of the shadow and rammed Truth Teller through the King's throat.

That's her power. That's her strength. She does what needs to be done and then she returns to her quiet life, and continues to create.

That's the significance of Elain Archeron.

I am still not over the changes my ADHD meds have made. This is such a simple and silly thing, but I get confused now when I start a podcast back up. I often have to rewind a bit to figure out what they were talking about. Because every single incompleted thing in my life isn't stuck bouncing around in short-term storage. Podcast.exe was not put into sleep mode where it still consumes 5% RAM and 3% CPU power, it was *shut down.* And I don't have to burn half of my CPU and RAM at all times keeping track of all my sleeping processes and making sure that when one of them randomly takes the lead again I can notice and bounce back to the thing I actually want to be my primary process. Because my head is not filled with secondary processes bouncing around all the time!

And what's more, stuff actually gets encoded to long-term memory when I shut stuff down! It's not perfect (though I don't think it is for anybody), but not only can I remember all the things I need to do it at work this Monday, I can actually remember that I wrote down a list of what I need to do and check it, rather than my brain lumping on to whatever thing immediately grabs my attention when I sit down and killing CheckTaskList.exe. (Because it's not that my brain didn't shutdown tasks ever, it's that it simply dropped tasks when I ran out of working memory and didn't commit them to long-term storage).

Gods, like ... I still have to sew these buttons back on to a couple of my clothes which I haven't done for months. But it used to be that the reminder to do that was bouncing around in my head a good 30% of the time I was existing, and it simply never became a primary process while I was in a position to do anything about it. But I just didn't think of it this weekend. But it's still there, if I choose to think to myself about things I need to do, it comes up!

And I still need to learn to work with that. I've got to train myself to set up regularly scheduled time during intervals when I've got energy to get stuff done, then bring up that list of things I need to do and do some stuff on it. As opposed to what I was doing before, which was letting whatever third of my to-do list was occupying my brain at any given time run (as if I could stop it) and making an effort to fix high priority things that came up when I was in a position to do them even if I was exhausted, I'm doing my best to handle the low priority stuff if it came up when I had spare energy. Which I rarely did, because see above.

It's wild, even on days when I don't take my meds (my psychiatrist told me that at higher doses skipping a day every once in awhile can help prevent tolerance buildup) it's still not even the same world I was living in before. Because half the problem wasn't that had all these background processes running around, it's that the strain of managing it at all times didn't even leave enough energy for the wrangling program which takes up half my CPU and half my RAM! I was burnt out just on existing. But now if I don't take my meds on a lazy Saturday, sure my attention wanders and I pick up new threads that occupy brain space. But I'm not dealing with last week's threads as well, and I actually have the energy to manage them.

It made an immediate difference when I first took my meds at a high enough dosage, because obviously being able to actually manage mental threads helps. But it doesn't make as much of a difference to go off my meds if it's for just a day, because my ADHD is at least managable if I have the mental energy which ADHD previously denied me.

Just because Podcast.exe hasn't been buzzing about chewing on a fraction of my resources since the last time I listened three days ago.

It's amazing.

Wherever you go, he's almost ramming into doors just to hold them open for you. He is the type to throw his coat over a small puddle so you could walk across. ✦ Would talk about you when podcasting his life. He'll even document the times you went on dates and what you did. ✦ He keeps a picture of you in his wallet. He mentions that "it's kinda like war movies," and you'll be with him wherever he goes. ✦ He has a collection of souvenirs from dates you go on. There's things like movie tickets, small plushies, and pictures. ✦ He'll vent to you whenever he's overwhelmed. He's not the same man he was after the loss of his best friend. We may get a little sentimental here, but I feel like he bottles his emotions a bit. He has a habit of overthinking things. ✦ I know for a fact that he's touch starved. The crowned king of smashing guitars is none other than The Who’s Pete Townshend. In a sense he was the godfather of guitar smashing on stage. The year was 1964. The Who were playing a small pub in London known as the Railway Tavern in Harrow and Wealdstone. At some point, Townshend’s Rickenbacker headstock hit the venue’s low ceiling, cracking it with a thud. When Townshend saw that none of the other band members seemed to notice or care, he decided to make it noticeable and smashed the guitar to the floor and against his amp, shattering it to pieces. And thus began a decades-long destructive affair between Pete and his many guitars.

Townshend would go on to smash more guitars on more stages in more countries the world over than any guitarist in rock ‘n’ roll history. He set the bar high on the act, performing it with an intensity and poetic presentation that bordered on dance. He would often raise his Gibson or Fender high over his head, holding it to the sky - a kind of sacrifice to the muse, to the crowd, to the moment. From there, the smashing took many directions. From bouncing the bottom of the body at the strap-button end off the stage over and over, to wielding it like an axe and chopping down a mic stand, to ramming it over and over into the drum stand or into a tower of speakers, Townshend made each guitar smashing an unforgettable moment for the audience.

In 2020, Roger Daltrey, the lead singer of The Who, perhaps with mischief in mind, said that Pete Townshend would creep around the stage collecting up all the bits of smashed guitars so he could glue them back together again. Which on the face of it wasn’t very rock’n’roll. It gets worse. According to Daltrey, to make it easier to repair his broken guitars, Townshend went to great lengths to smash them up as carefully as possible.

On the How to Wow podcast, Daltrey revealed the careful process behind Townshend’s destruction. “They were real guitars, but we worked out very cleverly that very rarely did the neck break. As long as the neck didn’t break, you could glue the body back,” he said. But Daltrey did charitably add that also pointed out: “It was costly in glue.” Fans of Townshend believed that Daltrey was deliberately trying to sabotage Townshend’s reputation. The pair interacted as little as possible during their time together and especially since the band broke up, doing separate interviews, having separate backstage areas at concerts and even recording entire albums without seeing each other.

However the story has a ring of truth to it. Pete Townshend once confessed inhis autobiography that, “The Who got paid 4000 pounds during those days, but we always smashed our equipment that cost more than 5000 pounds.“ Listen, it’s important to remember that even rock stars are people, and they have to deal with the same mundanities as the rest of us. Why Townshend had to glue all his guitars back together was because it was expensive to replace the smashed guitars and The Who were as frugal as they came.

In any case Townshend helped to set in stone one of rock’n’ roll’s defining images, the art of guitar smashing, unlike any other musical genre. In doing so he paved the way for the likes of other legendary guitarists like Jeff Beck and Jimi Hendrix to smash their guitars during their live performances on stage.

Black Mask: Year of the Villain

This is from Black Mask: Year of the Villain, which among other things actually contains Kate Kane and Renee Montoya dating and solving mysteries together (cute! Love that they've had a bit of time on page actually dating again since the end of Batwoman 2016) but also ends with this scene.

Which is, I’m sorry, hilarious from Tom Taylor. You absolute stereotypical Melburnian.

That is, I am pretty damn certain, supposed to be Tom Taylor himself. I am not going to inquire too closely into why he has placed himself inside the News Limited building (I mean News Unlimited of course), given what I know of Taylor’s views - I cannot believe that he has a positive view of the Murdoch press - but it does track extremely well in terms of ‘locations an Australian would like to decide an evil villain wants to infiltrate’.

Jinny Hex Special #1:

This is fine, I guess? It's written by Magdalene Visaggio, which I sort of wish I hadn't noticed before reading it, because reading it knowing that made a bunch of her hang-ups and opinions pop out of the text. But it does exactly what it says on the tin and gives more depth to Jinny's backstory.

Legend of the Swamp Thing Halloween Spectacular #1:

Gosh I really do love Swamp Thing as a property. It, like Flash, is best when it's just really leaning into the weird. Ram V and Vita Ayala have the standout stories in the set, but there's not really a dud in here.

Punchline #1 2020:

I have a soft spot for the way comics as a property often tend to trail what's currently popular. This is DC leaning in to the rise of true crime podcast started by Serial in 2014; using the concept for a story 6 years later, when they've become omnipresent big business makes sense. Yes it's also very 'please like our new character' in tone, but conceptually using this more civilian-side storytelling with Leslie Thompkins and the Row siblings makes sense, and I do have a fondness for the way they've demarcated out a bit of space for Harper and Cullen as Leslie-adjacent, rather than needing to try and fit them into bigger storytelling. The downside of course is a little Alexis goes a long way and this is about her thought patterns as a criminal.

Conceptually I think it's a very smart pitch: true crime stories are one of the biggest demographics of media for adult women (and honestly have been for years, if you add the prominence of things like the Law & Order and NCIS franchises with their tendency to rip from the headlines), and so trying out a book about the mentality of someone drawn into being a villain makes sense, in terms of attempting to grow the comics-reading market. I'm not sure the story pulls it off, but I can see what they're trying to do.

1,036,647 words. \:D/ Which is wild because I write so many short things that I never think of myself as having written that much, but t'would seem writing little amounts in consistent bursts builds up to a lot over time.

What fandom(s) do you write for?

Mainly Thai BL right now, and pretty much the same three pairings in circulation. Sometimes I'll write for a shiny new series, but I consistently come back to WinTeam (Until We Meet Again/Between Us), KongArt (SOTUS), and KawiPi (Be My Favorite).

I've also written for some anime series (Boku no Hero Academia, Yuri on Ice, etc.), Chinese danmei (Guardian, MDZS, etc.), Jpop RPF, and a ton of other fandoms that preceded my Kiranokira account on AO3 (est. 2017).

Do you respond to comments?

Yes! I try to do it as often as I can, but sometimes I get distracted, and then I feel terrible about responding late. Believe me, though, I read every one about four seconds after you send it and then spend between five minutes to five years in absolute bliss. I've actually started making a scrapbook of the comments that made me happy for emotionally rainy days.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Sooo, this isn't something on my AO3 account, but I once wrote a fic about a guy who died and he was making his rounds to visit all his friends (who couldn't see him). I couldn't end it completely miserably though, so I killed his boyfriend to reunite them! \o/

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I genuinely have no idea. Despite the horror show I just mentioned, the overwhelming majority of my fics have very happy endings. <3 I'M NICE TO MY CHARACTERS (eventually), DON'T BELIEVE THE RUMORS.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

I have! Every time it happens I'm so excited to hear about the process. Most recently, @linlinlong translated MUSE into Russian and was lovely enough to explain multiple points where the languages clashed and where Russian actually benefited a moment better than English!

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

I have! @itsmylifekay has become my multifandom co-writer, as we've co-written WinTeam (1) (2), KongArt, and are soon to start writing a sequel to her incredible Witcher AU KawiPi fic together. :D Our writing styles mesh really well, and we keep each other going off enthusiasm and a similar love for tormenting characters who don't deserve it. <3

What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I truly don't want to answer this because I think I could genuinely finish any of them in the right circumstances. I recently started working again on a fic in my drafts that I started back in 2021 and hadn't touched for three years, so y'know. All of them have potential to be finished!

What are your writing strengths?

Dialogue, humor, coming up with inventive metaphors/imagery. The third thing was a conscious thing I started doing at some point to keep myself interested in what I was writing. Every time I used a common metaphor/simile/comparison, I felt myself getting bored, so I tried to make things up that were just offbeat enough that they still made sense, and then I realized some of them were working better with the character's voice and the story and situation, etc.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Describing settings. I have that aphantasia thing where I can't really envision things. It takes a real effort to see things in my head, and even then, it's not a clear picture. Like if you take the classic "what do you see when you imagine an apple" question, some people see a tree filled with apples in an orchard. I see a red, vague shape of an apple on a black background. So any time I write, my default is emotion and the abstract. It takes a lot of effort to also build a set in the writing.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

It can be used effectively, and I use it myself when there's no proper English equivalent and it adds to the story. Like, in my first two or three Thai BL fics, I didn't use any foreign language words, but the more I understood the social hierarchy in Thailand and how much of an influence suffixes have in WinTeam's relationship, I started using them.

Which fandom was the first you wrote in?

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

Right now, I think it might be my KongArt fic "Life in Abundance",

Summary: Kongphob's mother has an agenda, and Kongphob can't dissuade her from it. Enter Kongphob's husband.

“She wants a grandchild,” Kongphob says gently. “She has four,” Arthit says. It’s a struggle to sound stern when Kongphob knows the pressure he likes and where he holds the most stress. “She wants a grandchild from me,” Kongphob clarifies. “Right, of course. You’re her favorite.”

With Gatekeeping Kawi as a very close second.

Both fics are about couples navigating their relationships with their parents. The KongArt one is about them trying to gently break it to Kongphob's mother that they don't want children, and the KawiPi one is Pisaeng literally gatekeeping Kawi from his estranged mother to protect him.

One of my favorite things about writing established relationships are all the issues you can explore that have nothing to do with infidelity or jealousy, and parents are a biiig part of that. The other thing is that I have a good relationship with my mother, and a very, very bad relationship with my father, so I have an extra interest in exploring various healthy and unhealthy parental relationships.
