It is a relatively large cichlid and can reach up to 41 cm(16 in) in total length and about 1.6 k (3.5 lb) in weight. Made a few friends at @ofrendanyc 😉 in Greenwich Village! Shout out to the chilliessst Evie, Chris, Pedro and rest of staff for hooking me up with some ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS (& happy hour priced!) fish tacos and ceviche tostadas. Seriously the tacos were to die for. Complete with a smoky jalapeño marg and some yum yum sweet potato fries - side of jalapeño aioli 😋 the pescado tacos are tilipia baja style with aioli and mercardo slaw salsa morita. Will make you wanta mora 😜 ceviche tostada is topped with shrimp, octopus, cucumber, avocado, habenero, cilantro and aioli. If you’re like me, you can pour a mass amount of Valentina hot sauce on top for an extra kick 😝 they have a cute little outside seating area where you can sit in the sun. Day 3 of the Van Dorts starts off with -- more domestic cuteness! Also fishing, because fishing is fun. And necessary for Victor’s aspiration -- Good Vampires need to make three plasma packs from fish or frogs, and since he and Alice have a lake just beyond their backyard. . . A very productive one too -- he caught some beautiful trout, a cichlid, and a tilipia! A shame they all had to end up in the plasma packs, but what can one do? Besides, Victor kind of needs the nutrition over any mounted trophies.

At any rate, the rest of the morning was largely standard Van Dort-Liddell family stuff. Alice worked on her latest book and chatted with the cat; Emma had breakfast and got to know her sister better; Eliza got a bath and learned shapes with Daddy. Just your typical family Sunday. . .

Source of the White Nile

East of Kampala, the capital of Uganda is the town of Jinja.  Located on the shores of Lake Victoria, it is know to be the source of the White Nile, a tributary of the Nile River.  Jinja has become a center for adrenaline pumping activities such as white-river rafting, mountain biking, kayaking, horse-riding and quad biking. 

The majority in the group did the white-river rafting where they rafted over (or under) Grade 5 rapids.  Everyone had fun.   I decided to try out gear-fishing for the Nile Perch in  Lake Victoria.  Not my normal method (I do fly-fishing), this is trawling rods behind the boat.  It’s always rejuvenating to be on the water.  One of the main industry on Lake Victoria is tilipia fish farming.
