as I painted a tiny copy of these bears and studied the original, I kept thinking that maybe the artist was trying to capture a real moment, an experience they had; being much too close to a large predator and feeling that fear/awe (and eventual relief)

each depiction has the same expression, the same intensity. they do evoke fear/awe, imo, with that dark shadow around the face and then the stark white around the eye. but I wonder if the artist needed to try again and again until the depiction felt like that moment they experienced

I wonder which one the artist liked best?

I suffered extensively for it but I am very proud of how it turned out :) especially considering it’s such a wild step out of my usual comfort zone in terms of both medium, scale and pretty much everything besides the figure lmao

the whole thing is done in acrylic gouache and it’s 22x30 inches 👍 stupid fuckin bigass painting

*percy’s uniform is most inspired by the 1787 pattern british naval captain’s uniform but is ultimately a fantasy given that his story takes place in a world that is similar to, but not quite, ours. I make this disclaimer mostly for myself as someone obsessed with historical accuracy. anyway. it looks pretty and that’s the most important part after all

There's some buzz about the Macy's and Kohl's closures announced for this year. It's bad news for a few PA malls, including the Logan Valley Mall here, which is losing Macy's now. I was already concerned about this mall because I was here in 2023 and again in 2024, and it looked way worse the 2nd time.

Kind of an unhinged one tbh lol, had a lot of struggles with the initial rough sketches as I tried to figure out what I even wanted this drawing to be. One of the recurring ideas was with something relating the parazon with Requiem mods with Styanax Tonatiuh, but it just felt like too big of a stretch and I couldn't figure out the posing fast enough

Wheel of Time is an insane book series because really early on it’s established that one of the main characters has the memories of dozens to hundreds of past lives that were all great generals and he also learns to speak a dead language and so far this has not been adequately explained or even questioned by the character.

But I'm also seven books in and we have yet to enter a town and not immediately have the color and materials of the roof tiles described in nauseating detail.
