God the only thing stopping me from writing the big long epic ignitionshipping childhood-friends-to-lovers longfic is that I’d have to do a bunch of research on adolescent mental health treatment programs in Japan (psychiatric hospitalization, etc) because that would play pretty heavily into Volkner’s whole everything. I guess I could do the lazy thing and base it off of the American system, which I am intimately familiar with, but I dunno.

Teenage Streber is vastly different compared to how he is as an adult. He was a lot more shy, quite, and incredibly timid, due to being bullied for being "the weird autistic kid". While he was incredibly smart for his age the other kids sure didn't make him feel like it. He got shit for asking for help in any form, even when he fully knew what he was talking about he still got shit for it. It really was a no win situation. He never really spoke to anyone his own age unless he had too. While he had a hand full of friends his own age he was still very lonely. He was scared to talk or show any of his interests beacuse he was scared of getting made fun of even more. The most he had in that regard was internet forums, local cons, and social media, his sketchbook, and occasionally being a "rebel" and going on the schools computer to go on deviantart or looking up vocaloid videos. He never really bothered to make that many friends beacuse most kids were pretty fake nice to him. He could absolutely see through that, it's better to be lonely then treated like more of a pet then a person. He tired his best to mask but he really couldn't. 😔 The only people outside of his small friend group he actually felt safe to talk to were his family and a few teachers. Of course the worst of it came from his middle school years beacuse middle school is always hell for neurodivergent kids.

The only time he felt safe to step out of his shell was during theater club, literature/writing classes, his school's anime club, and art class. When he was acting on stage he "didn't have to be himself, he could be anyone he wanted". No matter what grade high school, middle school, or elementary school he was always in a theater club or theater class! Being on stage or helping out with the production of school musicals and plays just felt right to him! After all theater has been something he's loved since forever.

He didn't really start slowly but surely stepping out of his shell until his sophomore year, and fully embracing goth culture and fashion. It just made him feel happy the more he looked into it. :^)

Of course during his college years he was fully out of his shell, he's been so much more happier since.

leo: does his work on time, and gets roped into doing ney n luis' work for them. but hes pretty bad at it and gets them all Fs.

ney: as just mentioned, gets leo to do his homework for him so he can play/stream video games instead. he isnt even mad when he gets an F, the man jus does not care.

trent: starts the DAY its assigned, but every time he answers a question he "rewards" himself by scrolling though twitter for an hour, eating a meal, n taking a nap. needless to say he turns it in late.

erling: his dog eats it. no like his dog actually eats it, and this man has to go up to his teacher n try to convince them that no he ISNT using the oldest excuse in the book, hes SERIOUS, YOU GOTTA BELIEVE ME.

luka: actually studies n applies himself like a NERD. gets a good grade on the assignment but he has to work for it. tutors his friends for free though.

luis: doesnt realize until the night before its due that hey, maybe forcing leo to do his homework WASNT the best idea n he woulda been better off doing it on his own. so yeah he does his own work from that point forward.

jude: he tries but this homework is jus so HARD. ends up calling erling at two in the morning or some shit like "ITS BEEN HOURS MAN N I DUNNO WHAT IM DOING." the teacher notices the teardrop marks on his paper n passes him outta pity.

sergio: tries to get luka to do it for him, but lukas like "i'll help you with it instead!!" so he ends up having luka tutor him but you know his ass aint learning SHIT.

mbappe: that bitch thats rlly smart n knows all the answers without even TRYING. gets his done the day its assigned AND charges people to have him do their work for them.

christian: COMPLETELY forgets abt it. like it doesnt even cross his mind until the night before its due, when as hes lying down to go to bed his eyes shoot open n hes like "SHIT."
