A Massachusetts woman was convicted of murdering her husband, a firefighter, in 2021, with jurors rejecting her claim of self-defense.

Christine Ricci, 49, was convicted of second-degree murder and assault and battery with a deadly weapon in Plymouth County court on Aug. 2, according to reports from NBC 10, MassLive and CBS News.

Michael Ricci, a 51-year-old Boston firefighter, was found stabbed in their Marshfield, Mass., home in January 2021, the outlets reported. He reportedly suffered wounds to his heart and back.

CBS reported that a knife was found near Michael’s body.

Authorities claimed that when first responders arrived after the incident, Christine said her husband had suffered a manic episode and fell, according to MassLive. But the responders then discovered the stab wounds, the outlet reported.

Christine then told police, according to CBS, that she had been holding a knife out of fear and that Michael had lunged at her. She reportedly claimed she didn’t know he had been stabbed until he fell.

Citing witnesses during the five-day trial, MassLive reported that Christine had found out about an affair Michael was having, resulting in constant fights between the couple.

Michael and Christine’s daughter, Sophiya, who was 16 at the time of the stabbing, testified that she was “used to” her parents fighting.

NBC 10 reported that Christine will be sentenced on Aug. 22.

"This is an awful tragedy," the Boston Fire Department said in a statement reported by NBC. "Michael was a valued member of the Boston Fire Department for 23 years. He will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family."

theneighborhoodtalk Neighbors, a high school graduation ceremony in Richmond, Virginia, was canceled on Tuesday after multiple people were injured in a shooting outside the venue, police and school officials said.

According to CBS News, the graduation ceremony at the Altria Theater was canceled after the shooting took place at a park near the theater. Seven people were shot, leaving three with life-threatening wounds.

Local police tweeted that officers were on scene of the shooting. “Multiple injuries reported. There is no immediate threat to the public.”

A Richmond Public Schools spokesperson confirmed the shooting occurred at Monroe Park.

“This incident occurred toward the end of the Huguenot High School graduation and we have canceled the Thomas Jefferson High School graduation scheduled for later tonight. It will be rescheduled soon,” the spokesperson said.

League of Leagues🏈 Fantasy Football🏉 Superbowl Recaps 🙏

Lots happened since the last recap as you all know. The anticipated last MNF affair between the Bills and the Bengals was playing as scheduled. At 8:55pm the unthinkable happened. Bills player Damar Hamlin went down with a perceived injury common in these games. The injury was all but common or normal...it was horrible. Damar had to be resuscitated on the field. Rushed to the hospital. Intubation.

Everyone who witnessed will remember where they were when this occurred. It was that scary of a scene.

At that moment, the country was in a concerned for Damar as opposed to football and seeding and trivial matters as a life was in the balance ON THE FIELD.

Everything else seemed so minor. Our hearts, thoughts, prayers were with Hamlin. For a brief moment in time, the nation came together for a man no one knew.

Hate that it takes tragedy for this "togetherness" to take place.

From here, the social media support, the outpouring of donations to his toy drive charity, the sports new coverage, his health updates, all have highlighted the positives out of a dire situation for him.

Last update as continue this recap is he is communicating verbally with family. This is great news.

Life does move on but never forget this day. Not sure about the ramifications or influence on the league going forward due to an unforseen tragedy, but one thing is for certain...there is still good in this world.

The league for Bragging Rights has no one to brag....sort of.

Johnny & Carla were top seeds and played each other for 3rd in which Johnny was able to place in that matchup.

Fantrax Experimental League

While Laura and Johnny got bounced out the 1st round, Taurean was the only L.O.L member to make it to the superbowl. It was an 8 team playoff starting later so Taurean can potentially win this league this week 🤞

After much thought, the Commissioner Laura has brought up something new for next year.

Points will be slightly adjusted to make points more level (lineman/sacks, linebackers/tackles, defensive backs/interceptions)

Neighbors, a local news station in San Diego interviewed Aaron Brink, the father of Anderson Aldrich and the suspect in the Colorado Springs LGBTQ+ nightclub shooting. That claimed the lives of Kelly Loving, Daniel Aston, Derrick Rump, Ashley Paugh and Raymond Green Vance.

In a bizarre interview with CBS 8 News, Aaron Brink reveals his relationship with his son, also that he was a former pornstar, and he feels like his son was disgraced by his career choice.

Brink also says his ex-wife called him from Colorado in 2016 to tell him their son, Nicholas Brink, had changed his name to Anderson Aldrich, and had killed himself. “His mother told me he changed his name because I was in Intervention and I had been a porno actor,” said Brink.

For six years he thought his son was dead until his son called him last year, arguing with him over the phone. Brink said he's a Mormon. His first reaction was to question why his son was at a gay bar. When his son's lawyers called him to inform him about the shooting. “You know Mormons don't do gay. We don't do gay. There's no gays in the Mormon church. We don't do gay,” Brink said.

The bipedal humanoid grunted with displeasure as his shovel hit something hard. “Damned lava rock!” he cursed, pulling a pick from where it swung at his belt and kneeling. “Every damn time I think I’ve made progress…” He braced himself and took a firm swing at the as yet unseen rock, using all of his strength - 

- and the pick shattered, a bright light emitting from below.

“What the devil - “ He shrank back, falling onto his buttocks and looking on in terror. “What witchcraft is this?!” He looked around for his companions, yelling, “Darv! Grekon!”

The two other men approached, shovels resting on their shoulders as they approached. “Triev! What the hell is that?” asked one, Darv, as he jogged up.

“Don’t get any closer!” said the one called Grekon. “The Kai should see this.”

“I don’t blame you for being scared, my friends,” said Kai Opaka warmly, a warm smile crossing her broad face. “Such a thing has almost certainly never been seen Ennis or Sol-Ennis before - truth be told, I’m not sure how it came to be here.”

“But, what is it, your Eminence?” asked Triev, fear assuaged but replaced with distrust.

“This is what the Klingons would call a time crystal,” said the Kai, reaching out with a shawl-covered hand to lift it from the ground. “It is very special, very powerful, and must be put away where it can do no harm. I will store it in my quarters under lock and key. And who knows. One day, the prophets may reveal their purpose in sending it here to me.”

Opaka woke from her dream with a start, and sat bolt upright in her simple cot. 

“My lady, what is it?” came the gentle voice of the former Kai’s trusted servant, Saline.

“I’ve had a vision! For the first time since I arrived here, the Prophets have reached me! And they have shown me what I must do,” said the Kai, rising from her bed and moving to her modest dresser. “Come, girl, help me put a few things together - the fate of my entire home quadrant could rely on my actions of the next few days!”

The confused girl rushed to do as bidden, with a murmured, “yes, m’lady,” and helped the Kai gather her few traveling necessities into a bundle. As she did so, Opaka crossed the room to the one lavish item in her home - a small, elaborately decorated box, tightly locked, its contents hidden from view. She drew a leather cord from under her robes, revealing a series of small keys. 

“I must ask for your complete silence, child,” the Kai whispered. “The mechanism in this box needs concentration and precision - an incorrect step in the unbinding process could cause the entire place to go up in an explosion you cannot imagine.”

The girl’s face paled as she watched the Kai, gently inserting key after key, twisting them each to measured intervals, her hands quick and meticulous.

As the lock sighed and released, the Kai kissed the keys and whispered, “thanks be to the Prophets for their guidance!” Before removing the box’s contents - the time crystal.

“But you eminence!” protested Triev. “How will you get there? And how will you return? And how will you keep us from all dy-”

“The Prophets work in mysterious ways!” the Kai said hurriedly. “Besides, with the aid of a Time Crystal, surely all will be well. Now never fear - since I’ll be using the crystal to stop the flow of time on this planet, I’ll literally be back before you even realize I’ve gone!”

She watched from the shadows as it all played out, saying a silent prayer to the Prophets for their guidance. 

WINN: Dorra tolka bre tri pah wran. Kosst Amojan, come to me! I await you.

But the wraith did not want Winn, and threw her against the rocks. Passing her by just as the Prophets have, thought Opaka.

The wraith went straight for the prostrate corpse that was once Gul Dukat, and entered him. An instant later, Dukat’s eyes opened, blood red, as he returned to his Carassian appearance.  

“No!” cried Winn, her hopes of being the chosen of the pah wraiths dashed, truly a woman with nothing left.

DUKAT: Did you really think the Pah wraiths would choose you to be their Emissary? Soon the Pah wraiths will burn across Bajor, the Celestial Temple, the Alpha Quadrant. Can you picture it? A entire universe set in flames, to burn for all eternity. The Prophets have sent me a gift. Their beloved Emissary, sent forth like an avenging angel to slay the demon.

SISKO: I should have known the demon would be you.

DUKAT: Go on. Kill me if you can.

(Sisko's rifle is thrown out of his hands.)

DUKAT: You'll have to do better than that, Captain.

(Dukat zaps Sisko with an energy bolt.)

DUKAT: This is too easy. That's it. Come closer. That's it.

(Sisko punches Dukat. And again. No effect.)

DUKAT: Now bow to me. I said bow.

(Sisko is pushed to his knees.)

SISKO: You are pathetic.

DUKAT: Then why are you the one on your knees?

SISKO: First the Dominion, now the Pah wraith. You have a talent for picking the losing side.

DUKAT: Benjamin, please. We've known each other too long. And since this is the last time we will ever be together, let's try to speak honestly. We've both had victories and our defeats. Now it's time to resolve our differences and face the ultimate truth. I've won, Benjamin. You've lost.

SISKO: The Pah wraith will never conquer anything. Not Bajor. Not the Celestial Temple. And certainly not the Alpha Quadrant.

DUKAT: And who's going to stop us?

SISKO: I am.

DUKAT: You can't even stand up.

WINN: Then I'll stop you.

(Winn raises the Kosst Amojan above her head, and it vanishes to reappear in Dukat's grasp.)

DUKAT: Are you still here?

WINN: Emissary, the book!

(Wraiths surround Winn and she bursts into flames.)

DUKAT: Farewell, Adami.

It is now or never, thought Opaka, it is time to save the Emissary, and the Alpha quadrant!

“That will prove to be your final error in judgment, Dukat.”

The Cardassian whirled around, his red eyes blazing, and a look of shock overtook his usually confident features. “Kai… Opaka? No, this can’t be, you’re dead -”

“I’m afraid reports of my death are greatly exaggerated,” smiled Opaka. “A sentiment you won’t be able to share for much longer.”

Dukat threw back his head and laughed, though the fear still shone in his eyes. “Such arrogance, to think you stand a chance against me. Do you still foolishly cling to your precious prophets? Your Emissary is on his knees, trembling, before me, and I have made easy work of your hypocrite of a Kai - what do you intend to do?”

“It isn’t the Kai you should be concerned with, Dukat,” said a familiar voice.

It couldn’t be - that pathetic little worm would never dare speak to me like this...Dukat thought, mind racing wildly. He turned, shock clearly written across his reptilian face, and saw -

“Damar! How?! You… you died!” gasped Sisko, his mouth agape.

“The Prophets have seen fit to give me a gift - a new life, to give in service to Cardassia…. And to Bajor,” said Damar. It was then that Dukat noticed the bright blueness of his eyes, the energy radiating off of him. 

“DAMAR!” he cried, as the other man -  once his second in command, his right hand man, a mentee and comrade in the fight for Cardassian supremacy - stood before him, hands outstretched, power gathering at his fingertips. “You fool - you think you can defeat me?”

“What began on Deep Space Nine will be finished now,” said Damar. “And this time, Winn won’t be here to stop you.”

The Kosst Imogen threw back Dukat’s head and laughed gutturally. “We shall see who will be stopping whom!”

 The two squared off, beams of energy shooting from their hands - Dukat’s was a sickly blood red, and Damar’s a pure blue beam. The sacrifices that had been made for the Kosst Imogen had made them strong - too strong, perhaps, to be beaten by the Prophet inside of Damar. 

Kai Opaka prayed then her most earnest prayer - for a Prophet to take her and allow her to assist Damar in the fight. A flash of light, and she was face to face with Sara; she did not know that this was Sisko’s mother, but she knew she was face to face with a powerful force. 

“Sulan,” she said. “I will help you to provide aid during this fight. We had not foreseen this, but perhaps this is the best way.”

Opaka felt power unlike anything she had ever known filling her body, and she found herself next to Damar, not sure of how she had arrived there, but with her body moving seemingly of its own accord - of the accord of hte Prophet! - to join in the fight. 

Blue energy flew from her hands to join Damar’s, and the two of them pushed against the Pah Wraith, feeling him start to slide back.

“NO!” cried Dukat. “No, this cannot be! This cannot be - ahhhhhhhhhhh!” Even the Kosst imogen was no match for the power of two Prophets. The once-Cardassian plummeted over the side of the cliff, disappearing into the flames below.

As quickly as they had entered, the Prophets left Opaka and Damar, and the two collapsed - one back to the peace of death, the other into the oblivion of sleep.

Opaka awoke in the familiar setting of her home, Saline standing over her. “My lady, you’ve returned to us!”

“Wha - How did I get here? How long have I - “ Opaka halted mid sentence, as she was taken by another vision.

“You have done well, Sulan,” Sara, again, stood before Opaka. “We wish to reward you… what can we give you that would make you happy?”

“To serve the Prophets is all the reward I need,” said Opaka. “But… it would mean the world to me, to save the inhabitants of this planet, and return to my home - return to Bajor.”

“As you wish,” said Sara. “So it shall be. Return to Bajor, and serve once again as our Kai. Help to guide the Sisko and prepare him for what the future holds.”

Reprogramming

While reading scriptures, the Lord highlighted our text in my spirit. Immediately, my mind went to a scene from some random movie/TV show of years gone by. (TV and movies have never been important enough for me to remember program names.) A programer inspected the robot looking it over carefully, then feeling it. To the touch, the robot was like a human, except for the back opened up to display a computer panel. The programer began pushing buttons to ‘program’ this robot.

Up on the computer screen of my mind flashed a second picture— this time one of people surrounding screens watching news media, i.e. CNN, CBS, FOXN, ABC, MSNBC, etc. As they watched the media personalities stepped out of the screens, touching viewers foreheads. They began programing the viewers minds. These people then stood up and began mouthing everything they'd heard.

Another thought popped into my head, ‘hearing and repeating solidifies believing.’ Wow, I’d never thought this before regarding the media spews, (not news). Immediately, another thought, from counseling days, came into my mind. ‘No matter what your problem is— don’t nurse it, don’t curse it, don’t rehearse it. Just give it to God and He will reverse it.’ Yes I was in a Christian counseling program.  

Mercy hit my heart. Millions of my Christian brothers and sisters have sat closer to the TV than to the Bible. Rather than having their minds washed by the water of the Word, (see Ephesians 5:26), they’ve watched the media and been reprogrammed about what is supposedly good and bad. Can I judge them? Romans 3:23NIV “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Although I didn’t fall short in this area, I’ve fallen short in other areas.

Scariest part of reprogramming is: Revelation 2:5NIV “Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place.” What is reprogramming? 101 brainwashing. Back in 1974, Patty Hearst, daughter of heir to the Hearst newspaper fortunes, was kidnapped by the SLA. They proceeded to deprive her of sleep, food, light, and preach the horrors of capitalism and Christianity. End result she committed crimes with them, before being rescued and deprogrammed. Every Christian who voted for Biden was brainwashed and reprogrammed by the media. Accepting all of the lies and blatant fear, they chose to believe murdering babies, throwing away history, embracing communism was fine in God’s eyes, better than Trump alternative. I never listened to the media, (warned by God to not watch). Therefore, I cannot comprehend how anyone can descend to the level of insanity, as to embrace communism and murder.

We may live on planet earth, but we’re not to allow planet earth to infect us with its corruption. Truth is: we’re aliens residing in a foreign land. Heaven is our home. While we’re here on planet earth, our assignment is to infect, effect, and affect society with the principles of love, mercy, grace, godliness and peace. Our position is to govern, not be governed by evil and corruption.

Have you allowed corruption to affect you? We’ve all been affected by it in some degree. Will you join me in effecting our temporary home for the Lord? It’s your choice. You choose.

PRAYER: Holy God, Jesus was never corrupted. We’re to live as He did. Can I tell You it’s not that easy for us. Help us Lord to effect this planet with Your love, grace, mercy, peace and godliness, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.

A borough councilperson was fatally shot in New Jersey this week, authorities have confirmed, marking the state's second attack in seven days where an act of gun violence resulted in the death of a local elected official.

Russell Heller, 51, was a council member in the township of Milford, near the border of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He was shot around 7 a.m. on Wednesday morning in the parking lot of the PSE&G Central Division headquarters building in Somerset, where Heller had worked as a supervisor for 11 years. 

Officers were dispatched to the facility on a 911 call, the Franklin Township Police Department said in a news release. When they arrived, the responding officers found Heller had suffered a gunshot wound and already succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel, according to the police department.

An investigation into the deadly shooting led law enforcement to identify 58-year-old Gary Curtis, of Washington township, as the suspected gunman. Curtis, a former employee at PSE&G, was found dead several hours later from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, authorities said. Officers discovered the suspect's body inside his car, which was traced to a parking lot in the neighboring township.

"The investigation remains on-going to determine motive," wrote the Franklin Township police department in their release describing the shooting. "Preliminary investigation has revealed that the shooting was an isolated incident and Mr. Heller was the intended target."

The prosecutor's office in Somerset County said in a statement Thursday morning that the deadly shooting was not politically motivated, CBS New York reported.

"Investigators have confirmed that Mr. Heller was a Republican Councilman for Milford Borough (Hunterdon County)," the statement read, according to CBS New York. "The investigation has revealed that the shooting of Mr. Heller was not politically connected with his elected office or political affiliation."

Heller's death came exactly one week after Eunice Dwumfour, a borough councilwoman in Sayreville was shot to death in a car parked outside of her home on the evening of Feb. 1. Dwumfour, 30, was the first Black person elected to office in the township on the state's eastern edge. 

At a memorial held in her honor this week, Sayreville Mayor Victoria Kilpatrick praised her former colleague and friend as a figure who "broke through that glass ceiling" and "confidently, with class and dignity, walked proudly to her seat on the dais in her signature sparkling high heels." Police have yet to arrest a suspect in Dwumfour's killing.

Political leaders in New Jersey reacted on social media Wednesday to news of the deadly shooting that killed Heller, echoing similar sentiments shared in response to Dwumfour's murder that acknowledged it as a devastating consequence of gun violence in the area.

"Early this morning, a deadly shooting took place outside of a PSE&G facility in Franklin Township. Our thoughts and prayers are with Russell Heller's family and friends in the wake of this tragic act of gun violence," wrote New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy in a tweet on Wednesday. The governor had reposted a message shared by PSE&G.

"We are heartbroken at the tragic death of Russell Heller, senior distribution supervisor at PSE&G," the company wrote, describing Heller as "an admired employee" of more than 11 years. 

"He will be sorely missed by all, and our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time," said PSE&G. "This event is tragic and disturbing, and we are offering support to our employees as they process this. We are cooperating with law enforcement with respect to their investigation."

New Jersey Rep. Tom Kean, whose district includes parts of Somerset County, where Franklin township is located, praised Heller in another message shared on Twitter after his death.

"I am shocked and saddened by the tragic murder of Milford Councilman Russell Heller," the congressman wrote. "Russell was an outstanding public servant who proudly represented the river town he loved. My prayers are with his family and the Milford community."

'Heat dome' Weather System to Bake America with Temperatures Beyond 90F for Weeks

Recently I had a thought that the weather forecast may actually be creating the weather. There is no way, using a meteorological model, that weather can accurately be predicted, which is why the forecast is wrong so much of the time. Weather can only be predicted through an understanding of how orgone energy and DOR function in the atmosphere. When we increase orgone energy using orgonite, meditation, rain dances, medicine wheels, obolixes and any other means of generating life force energy, we bring about cool, clean air, movement and wind in the atmosphere, and rain alternating with sun, for the optimum health of the planet and its inhabitants.  But we can only be effective OR generators with a positive mind, and articles like this create negativity and even animosity toward our weather, a natural function of our Earth.

This article is all about “predicting” catastrophic weather which will last for indefinitely long periods of time, with nothing to back it up. Every weather event is extreme and happening in the future, even weeks from now. This is what they want you to know:

A blistering "heat dome" will blanket large swathes of the US this weekend with temperatures above 90F degrees, and up to 121F, that will last for weeks as experts warn of increased danger in heat-related illness and deaths.

The National Weather Service on Friday begun issuing excessive heat watch alerts for "dangerously hot conditions" and are forecasting more than 75 record high temperatures to be approached or broken from Friday to Tuesday, and growing the following week.

The prolonged heatwave would increase the odds of heat-related illness and deaths, Weather Underground founder Jeff Masters told CBS News.

"The heatwave will be very long-lived, lasting multiple weeks in some areas with only a few days of near-normal temperatures during that span," Mr Masters told the outlet.

How do they know it will last this long or be this hot? Another article on the subject is titled “ A Brutal Heat Wave Is About to Scorch Many Parts of the Country for Weeks.” Using a word like “scorch” makes summer sound worse than it actually is. This is pretty normal weather for this time of year, of course subtracting 5-10 degrees from most forecasts due to “global warming” inflation of the numbers. This is all mind control to make humans generate conditions which enable the parasites to exist in our dimension. Hot weather is dependent on DOR conditions, which they need to survive. Incidentally, they have also just advised that people don’t use air conditioning because they claim it exacerbates the hoax virus! So they want us to generate a heatwave and suffer through it for a non-existent reason.

By implanting this idea in the readers’ minds using the power of suggestion delivered over the parasitic network, which almost always includes electromagnetic mind control over the user, they amplify it and collectively project it into being in the third dimension. The power of many human minds absorbing, amplifying, and generating a negative thought form regarding weather is as much a part of the weather war as any cell towers or craft in the sky. Humans can influence the weather both for good and for bad. We’ve been tricked into losing our connection with the Earth so that we can manifest life affirming weather or even know or admit we have that ability. We have been used to create drought and catastrophic weather for eons through the mind controlling effects of DOR for the parasitic agenda.

This article talks about a “heat dome,” which is a new term in weather reporting. It describes it as occurring “ when the atmosphere traps hot ocean air like a lid or cap, according to the National Ocean Service. A team of National Ocean Service scientists established the Modelling, Analysis Predictions and Projections program to investigate what triggers heat domes, and found the main cause was a strong change in ocean temperatures from west to east in the tropical Pacific Ocean during the preceding winter.” This thermodynamic explanation sounds completely made up. The ocean is not what’s affecting air so far inland and unlike like these government scientists, the ocean does not produce hot air! The “heat dome” is a heavy DOR assault, an energetic attack on the atmosphere to cause stagnation. The answer is increasing OR, which can be done through orgonite gifting and through your own mind’s power.

The heatwave is being planned during a time of year that’s already hot, making it easier to increase the effect. But is it being planned with electromagnetic weapons or with mind controlled humans generating it? It’s both. Humans who are convinced a negative result will occur when their minds are controlled by the tracker (smart phone) are a far more effective weapon for the parasites than cell towers alone, which are easily neutralized with orgonite. The infected human minds are far more difficult to fix because the humans are so addicted to the tracker that they can’t progress. This is where each one of us needs to clear our own energetic fields before we can be effective etheric warriors.

On the plus side, the parasites are losing big right now, as can be evidenced by the lack of any air traffic. Most of what we see up there, in the upper atmosphere, is inter-dimensional, not human. All of the ones with a chemtrail are not human planes, but parasitic craft. When they cut in and out or have a short trail, that’s because they are suffering in this dimension. This happens when atmospheric OR is high. When the trails stick more, there is more DOR, but there is very little DOR at all anymore, and in most places these inter-dimensional craft can’t enter our atmosphere. The chemtrail is evidence of their presence or absence. The worldwide lockdowns and oppression are all a parasitic reaction to their loss of the Earth, which they claimed unlawfully. They are losing control and are in their last gasp due to the flipping of the Earth’s energy and Computer Virus 19 (AI), the real disease. They are infected, not us, and they are malfunctioning and dying.

So don’t assume that you will have weather in the low 120s tomorrow because the government parasites are trying to get you to generate a weeks long heatwave. Remember, the thermometers are all rigged too. When you see what they’re doing, you can laugh at them and put your good energy and prayers toward the sky and Earth. You’ll see the stagnation lift, the wind pick up, temperatures come down quickly and dramatically.

Healing and Faith: Part 1

The relationship between faith and healing has always been a point of curiousity and controversy. Most of us have heard stories of people recovering from serious diseases due to their faith. Exploring and investigating this relationship by scientific means has been a taboo among scientists and medical doctors for centuries. As recently as 15 years ago, it would have been considered academic suicide to propose such a study.

But this has started to change. Increasingly, professionals from respected institutions are conducting scientific studies of the effects of faith in healing. Recent conferences at Harvard, the Mayo Clinic, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) signal this change, as does major media coverage on PBS, NBC Nightly News, CNN, and CBS This Morning. Below we give examples of such scientific studies, the people behind them, and their findings.

Dr. Herbert Benson

Dr. Herbert Benson is an associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and the founding president of the Mind/Body Medical Institute at Boston's Deaconess Hospital. As the author of 150 scientific papers and six books, Benson has made important contributions to our understanding of the physiology involved in the healing effects of faith.

As a young cardiologist working with people suffering from high blood pressure, Benson noticed that their blood pressure was the highest during office visits. He reached this conclusion after noticing that after treating his patients with anti-hypertensive medicines to lower their blood pressure, they would report such symptoms as fainting. This indicated that the adjusted blood pressure was generally too low. Since doses were set according to measurements made during the visit, the calibration was correct. He concluded that their blood pressure should have been lower before or after the visit.

To establish a model for stress-induced hypertension, he stopped his routine in cardiology and returned to physiology research at Harvard Medical School. Once when he was studying monkeys, about 15 young people involved with Transcendental Meditation asked him to study their responses to stress. Electrodes were attached to their chests and scalps to measure their heart waves and brain waves. Masks collected their breath as they exhaled, so their metabolism and rate of breathing could be measured. Then baseline measurements were taken while they sat quietly for 20 minutes. The same measurements were taken again while they meditated for 20 minutes, and then one last time while they sat quietly without meditating. The individuals had a 17 percent decrease in their metabolism during meditation, and a 20 percent drop in their rate of breathing. Also the frequencies of brain waves were lowered.

Benson identified two basic components of Transcendental Meditation: meditation and prayers involving the repetition of a word, sound, or movement with the out-breath; and passively setting aside other thoughts when they come to mind and returning to the repetition.

When he studied various religions and cultures, he found these essential elements in virtually every one of them. The earliest account was in Hinduism, where there were accounts of individuals focusing on their breathing and repeating a phrase of scripture while disregarding every-day thoughts. The pattern was found in Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Shintoism, Taoism, and Confucianism. He posited that this practice may be conducive to improved health perhaps by reducing parasympathetic nervous system responses to stress, known as the "fight or flight response".*

Benson sees his work not as alternative medicine but rather as one leg of a three-legged stool. In his words: "One leg is pharmaceuticals, another leg is surgery and other procedures, and the third is self-care. That last leg includes nutrition, exercise, and the relaxation response. It's vital not to neglect the last leg, because 60 to 90 percent of visits to doctors are for conditions related to stress, where employing pharmaceuticals and surgery is not effective."

Benson also found out that as much as faith inspires prayer, this form of prayer or meditation inspires health. He and his colleagues treated such conditions as hypertension and cardiac arrhythmia with the relaxation response, the common ingredient in his self-care program and prayer/meditation practices. They cured 75 percent of insomniacs, treated symptoms of depression in people with AIDS and cancer, and relieved nausea and vomiting related to chemotherapy. In a fertility program for infertile women that emphasizes self-care through relaxation response techniques, proper nutrition, and re-framing thinking patterns, 34 percent become pregnant in contrast to 15 percent in other programs.

Dr. David Larson

Psychiatrist David Larson is the president of the National Institute of Healthcare Research and author of the teaching workbook, The Forgotten Factor (co-authored with his wife Susan). In this book, he discusses the relationship between religion and health. Numbers supporting his work come from Gallup polls showing that 95 percent of Americans believe in God, and that although half believe in Hell, 80 percent sanguinely trust in a forgiving God. In addition, 40 percent of Americans attend worship services weekly.

During his psychiatric residency at Duke University, Larson asked a professor for some guidance on how to bring his faith into psychiatric practice. The response was: "Are you the type person who wants people to believe like you do?" Although he said he was not, the professor continued: "It is obvious you are going to hurt your patients." He recalls that anyone who would bring up that subject would be quickly labeled as a fundamentalist. But his later research and extensive publications have brought attention, which helped fund the National Institute for Healthcare Research. The Faith in Medicine program, which the institution funds, gives $10,000 grants to medical schools for courses on religion and health. Johns Hopkins and George Washington University are among the eleven schools that have received the grants.

In an interview with People magazine out Wednesday, Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek credited the prayers of millions of his fans for helping him in his fight against stage-four pancreatic cancer, now in “near remission.” Yet, while ABC’s World News Tonight touted Trebek’s praise, the CBS Evening News ignored that part of Trebek’s comments and NBC Nightly News edited it out of the quotes read and video clips they aired….

…Trebek telling People magazine: “The doctors said that they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory. Next came the part where Fryer skipped over Trebek’s credits in the People magazine piece: “He tells People, “I’ve got a couple million people out there who have expressed good thoughts… I told the doctors this has to be more than just the chemo.” For Trebek, that support is part of the answer.”….

After the Diem brothers were assaassinated, it didn’t matter: we couldn’twin the war. The Republic of Vietnam could still have reclaimed their nation from the criminal invasion by the commie cocksuckers in Hanoi, but America had lost the moral advantage and createded an unnecessary material disadvantage. It was just a matter of time and the object of the exercise, from the Petagon’s point of view was to string out the battle as long as possible and kill as many of the little people as we could to keep the Soviet supply line wide open and draining the Soviet Union hollow, just as Kennan described.

But, bringing in allied troops, especially the Kiwis and Aussies, was the leading edge of the miitary arts at the time. This all has to do with Clauswitz and really geekie miitary process theology. It’s the reason I understood the battle was lost in Vietnam for America when the same people who thought the Bay of Pigs was a good idea thought getting involved in local politics and staging a coup was even better. The Oliver Stone version of Vietnam embraces the mythology that JFK was assassinated because he was planning of pulling out of Vietnam, but he couldn’t.
