So generations pass, the Kindred are all but extinct, humans have spread to every habitable corner of the world, and now the human nations are struggling with the issues that come from overpopulation and the presence of a substance that can do Anything in high enough quantities.

In most places aether is a controlled substance, doled out by their respective governments according to the rules of that society. In some places it's considered a basic need, in others a luxury, in others a dangerous drug. In almost all cases, it's been diluted and is in such small quantities that magic of the past is assumed to be the stuff of fairy tales.

This timeline mostly centers around the city of Augustine, where aether is under the strict control of an agency which accepts applications for its distribution. If a person's application is appealing enough, they can be granted massive amounts of aether, more than most people could acquire in other places in the world. Accepted applications tend to be things in the realm of "ways to better society," such as medicine, agriculture, and so on.

Although the city is prosperous, there is a dark underbelly to the agency overseeing its aether, as well as the man in charge of it...

A RANT WARNING!!! KIND OF SUGGESTION THROWN INTO THE WIND BC THEY'LL NEVER READ THIS

I don't know about you, but sometimes I feel like we could benefit from another ExU Calamity shaped hiatus to the main campaign.

I'll say the episodes around it were some of my favorites (the whole hellcatch valley arc plus Yu) and they picked it up with an air of freshness after the whole intensity from Calamity.

Candela happens in parallel and it has the bit of pressure of introducing/marketing the system so idk if it's really something to loosen up the players (not saying I don't enjoy it tho).

I'm thinking something in-universe but different characters without the pressure of a long story yet not too brief like a one-shot, exploring past lore that may or may not become relevant later on.

I just feel, and this might be just a me thing, like some aspects have begun growing heavy and repetitive. The personal arcs like scratched cds, fcg and imogen and orym feel a bit washed in sauce, so much of the same VM characters, everyone so down and hopeless even though we're about to reach a peak in the narrative. There's so many cool characters and places from this campaign to go back to and we just never do.

And a pause might let Matt and the players rest and look at the bigger picture/arc, and might allow some of those repetitive squabbles cool down into more interesting perspectives.

it really is a bummer when you see another translation of a work you've enjoyed translated to your language -- as a kid or recently -- and all the stuff that was translated/localized in your language is... kept as it was (usually in english) in that other translation

Kevin Kline was excellent though, so good in comparison to everyone else (*coughs* Roxane *coughs*) that at a certain point (*coughs* Roxane in the balcony *coughs*) he seemed to have fallen into this production from a different one with better actors. Despite the choice of making his Cyrano overly funny, which I imagine wasn't Kline's or not entirely given everyone in the play was trying to be funny (Roxane was ridiculously exaggerated, but this Le Bret in particular made no sense as a character imo?), I quite liked his performance.
