I think, perhaps one of the funniest things to come from EPIC popularising the Odyssey is that now a ton of people think Poseidon wanted to kill Odysseus.

In the Odyssey, Poseidon has no intention of killing Odysseus. In fact, part of the whole reason Zeus lets Poseidon do whatever he wants even though he thinks Odysseus is rad and should get to kiss his wife is explicitly because Poseidon had no intentions of killing Odysseus. Poseidon wanted to pay back the suffering/inconvenience blinding Polyphemus would have caused. It's a really abstract thing tbh. How do you pay back someone permanently disabling your son? Poseidon's solution was just to amputate Odysseus from his other half; i.e. Penelope. The end game was never murder, it was always an endurance race.

Also, for those wondering if there's any sort of in text reason for why Poseidon wasn't around in God Games - at the time in the Odyssey when Athena petitions Zeus to let Odysseus leave Calypso's island, Poseidon was -checks notes- on vacation in Ethiopia. Yep. He left to Ethiopia for a festival and thusly was very much absent for Athena's whole "please let Ody go? Please? 🥺" request.

I am begging y'all to read the Odyssey. It's a comedy for everyone except Odysseus and Penelope who are, in fact, suffering 24/7 365.

okay, refreshing your memory with this: a breakup preceded by buck and tommy telling each other they want the same thing -- a future (a forever) together. [and not to mention, tommy essentially told buck that he’s in love with him with his earlier (not pictured), “no matter how bad i want to be, i’m your first, not your last,” and him saying that he couldn’t handle buck breaking his heart,” (shown below)].

now there’s this answer (picture included below) that oliver gave to a question re: how he feels about a relationship for buck that’s more drawn out/one with a slow burn element. the question was not posed in relation to buck and tommy’s relationship but oliver’s answer is still interesting especially after buck and tommy’s breakup — which, note: was filmed before oliver did this interview meaning that he already had the knowledge of where buck and tommy’s relationship was headed in the narrative when giving his answer. again, the question was not in relation to buck and tommy’s relationship and oliver’s answer doesn’t directly reference them but since their relationship is buck’s most recent, i think his answer could have been influenced by it and it seems incredibly fitting to me considering the longing and yearning for tommy we got in 807 and 808 (which, i don’t know if these episodes were filmed before or after this interview but i think it’s a plausible and valid argument nonetheless) with buck baking every time he thought about tommy until he baked all his flour and was still jonesing for more (a mutual-longing, i should add, with tommy bubbling buck at the very same moment buck thought about texting him—something something a tractor beam pulling him towards tommy). really, the breakup with all of its narrative elements feels like the start of buck and tommy’s yearning and longing-filled slow burn as oliver described it below:

and then there’s this excerpt from an interview where tim minear talks about tarlos’ breakup and generally, why he breaks couples up in the 911 universe (even those who are beloved to the audience or clearly meant to be together). he was clearly much more reassuring after the tarlos breakup, but that does make sense as they are/were one of the two anchor ships in lone star and both actors are mains. and so, i would venture to guess that maybe he wants to keep buck and tommy’s potential reunion and make-up more of a surprise for the audience.
