“But there is one I have a claim to … a better claim than your own, brother. I am the blood of the dragon. I want my father’s seat, the place where I was born. I want Dragonstone.”

Jacaerys Velaryon/Daeron Targaryen
"By royal command, the infants Jacaerys Velaryon and Daeron Targaryen shared a wet nurse until weaned. It was said that the king hoped to prevent any enmity between the two boys by raising them as milk brothers."

Bran no había calculado aquello. Le daba miedo. Si ni siquiera los dioses podían ayudar a su hermano, todo estaba perdido. Aunque quizá Osha no hubiera entendido bien.

The Imp is me in spades, the horny little bastard.
- George R.R. Martin, Torcon Speech (2003)
The book I'm working on now (A Dance With Dragons) is going to have an awful lot of the characters that that aren't in A Feast for Crows, it's going to have a lot of Jon Snow, a lot of Daenerys, a fair amount of Davos, and it's going to have have a lot of "me" - Tyrion.
- George R.R. Martin, So Spake Martin (2007)
Tyrion is most like the personality I would like to have. He's relentlessly intelligent, iconoclastic, funny, and witty. I'm not nearly as witty as Tyrion. Well, I am as witty as Tyrion because I invent all of Tyrion’s witty things, but, on the other hand, I'm much slower than Tyrion. I think of the witty thing to say when it's too late to say it. I'm a slower version of Tyrion, and somewhat taller. But, actually, the character who I am probably most like in real life is Sam. They're all partly me, but I'm probably more like Sam than I am like Tyrion. Sad to say… Or good to say, depending on your point of view. I'm less likely to chop up a singer and put him in a stew, as Tyrion has been known to do, though I would like to have a friend like Bronn to kill people who annoy me. That would be good. Then we could teach some of these internet trolls!
- George R.R. Martin, Eastercon (2012)
Tyrion is the character I’ve always had the easiest time writing. Maybe that’s the character I wish I could be, in a sense, despite all of his drawbacks. But of course I’m obviously not Tyrion. Tyrion has a wonderful wit to him, and he throws off witticisms every moment that take me weeks to come up with. I have to rewrite them four times, before I get the line just right. In real life, I’m always the guy thinking, “Ah! That’s what I should have said!” But I only think of it three weeks later. The character I’m probably most like in real life is Samwell Tarly. Good old Sam.
- George R.R. Martin, Meduza (2017)

Working on HOTU - the part where Dany enters the warlocks chamber- and since I've read it for the first time I wanted to draw that "heart filled with coruption" which is the only source of light in the room...I mean how does a "heart filled with coruption" looks like...and then I start thinking that a tree kind of looks like the blood circulation system of a human being...with the branches stretching all over...so here it is my interpretation of a "heart filled with coruption" or a heart tree filled with coruption...

Oakenfist has some of the best morals in the books. He lives a scandalous life, bit of a drama queen haha, his true colours show through what he does. Martin never writes an all rounded perfect character but all that’s thrown out the door when it’s about Oakenfist. Truly makes me wonder why? I have a soft spot for him, he reminds me of my late dad, good sport, fun to have and always helping out the family. The thing with Princess Elaena was messed up, ‘least she was in her twenties… can’t say the same for a lot of the men the fandom loves and forgives.
*cough cough* Rhaegar, Daemon, Viserys I, Maegor and counting
I’m so curious to know what exactly happened between Alyn and Elaena. Since Alyn was a widower at the time, and Elaena an adult woman in her 20s, the relationship is not as scandalous as other affairs that exist in the story. But I still need the details.
Though you’re right that Alyn is written to have a strong sense of morality. He often goes out of his way to do things for other people, despite his own reluctance in such situations:
1) Attempts to rescue Corlys from his impending execution even though they have a distant relationship.
2) When Baela first showed up at Driftmark to plead with Alyn to marry her, it takes him 2 weeks to make his decision. The situation might’ve been inconvenient for Alyn, and he doesn’t gain any political advantage out of it (such as becoming Master of Ships) but despite his hesitation, he still chooses to help Baela escape her forced marriage.
3) At the council of 136 AC, he elevates a former enemy, Isembard Arryn, into a position of power in order to help save Westeros’ failing economy. Alyn also graciously gives up his own position as Master of Ships to appease yet another enemy, Gedmund Peake.
4) Opposed Johanna Lannister’s proposed genocide of the Iron Islands and instead provided many of his own ships as a relief measure, therefore weakening the Velaryon fleet.
5) To ensure his crew could sail through the Stepstones without coming under attack by pirates, Alyn walked willingly into enemy territory. Though as a result, Alyn was forced to kill people for Racallio and supposedly even perform sexual favours.
6) If the rumours about his time in Dorne are true, then Alyn had to perform even more sexual favours in order to secure food, water and safe passage for his crew.
7) It’s written that Alyn was weary from his long voyage and only wanted to get home, but he still chose to go on a lengthy detour to bring back a lost prince. Alyn’s unborn child with Baela was seen as the next heir to the throne but rescuing Viserys ensures that the royal line of succession will pass through the prince. Alyn himself is unbothered by this loss of royal power because his primary concern was about reuniting family. He was willing to pay whatever ruinous amount the Rogares demanded of him in order to ransom Viserys out of captivity.
8) Family seems to be very important for Alyn. His first act as Lord of Driftmark was in fact reconciling with estranged family members. House Velaryon had been divided for so many years so Alyn distributed parts of his own lands on Driftmark to his Velaryon cousins, with the only condition being that they join his fleet.
I think it’s one of his most exemplary traits that he puts others before himself. Nothing but respect for MY Lord of Driftmark!!
