theon casually disclosing a painful childhood trauma and then following that up immediately by saying the most out of pocket and delusional shit….. yeah, my father beat me too, but you’re probably pregnant with a royal bastard, so no worries!

This is some really beautiful imagery here from our dear old pal Jon
I regret to inform you, dani, that I, Bee, have finished A Clash of Kings
After a season of intense turmoil over the fate of Bran and Rickon Stark, I was pleased to find them alive and well. I hate Theon with a passion, and I’m still mourning the loss of one Maester Luwin and Ser Rodrick Cassel, may their souls rest in peace.
I am expectantly waiting for some interesting Arya and Jon content in the next book, terrified for Sansa, intrigued by Tyrion’s next move and oh
So Joffrey’s supposed to be getting married in a month
And erm
Well I have heard of the red wedding 😬😳
And lollys is pregnant 😭
Well that’s something to look forward to as well I suppose
Ooh I wonder if the Tyrells do something fancy and betrayal like that would be super cool
Random note I’m loving now Podrick Payne the little squire boy killed Mandon Moore of the kings guard 😂 broooo you are a legend, also Cersei you traitorous bitch rot in hell with your ugly son pleaseee
Anyway I’m now reading a funny little book about cunning old people with the most wicked sense of humour going about solving murders in their retirement village. I have to say it’s very lighthearted and I’m thoroughly enjoying it
(Please don’t get put off by all my fancy language Ik it’s a bit precocious but sometimes I’m just in the mood)
Enjoy!
Ugh I hate Theon too. Also yes! I get so sad when nice old people in books die :(
The next book is fucking amazing and the most intense tbh.
Good luck with the red wedding!
I love your fancy language. *sips tea* it is most delightful! (ily! enjoy your book!)

Theon Fic Appreciation || Bingo Square: Share a fic that brought you joy
Sight of the Sun by dirtypavvs
A mostly light-hearted fic where Theon and Robb have common interests and eventually get together. Too bad they don't live closer, that'd make everything easier for everyone. Jon and Yara are there to help their brothers, though. It's mostly fluff. And who doesn't want to see Theon happy after everything he's been through?
My final rec for Theon Fic Appreciation Month is a fluffy Throbb fic I thoroughly enjoyed, chronicling a long distance relationship between Theon and Robb over social media. It’s adorable, with just enough plot and angst sprinkled in to keep it from being too fluffy. Theon and Robb are adorable, as are Yara and the Stark sibs, who are always present in the background and involved in some way. This whole fic is like a comforting cup of warm tea.

the northern dragon- part 1.
PART 1: A SPARK.
TAGS: @psychosupernatural , @xleviiiix (feel free to shoot me a message if you’d also like to be tagged!)
DESCRIPTION: the world thought that just 2 dragons survived, that house targaryen was missing its third head. but there was another– the youngest, the final child of the mad king and queen rhaella. of course, she was almostpart of the near extermination of her house. but the honorable ned stark, unable to watch a babe be murdered for crimes she did not commit, rescued her from an awful fate. instead, she grew up amongst wolves within the walls of winterfell.
NOTES: this a rewrite of the original part 1 after an anon pointed out how i definitely rushed it. i hope this gives you all more insight into the reader’s personality and her relationships to the Starks (and Theon). there’s a few flashbacks in this which i thoroughly enjoyed writing, so expect more in the parts to come. as always, i’d love to hear any & all feedback. requests for what you’d like to see in the story are always nice to hear as well!
WARNINGS: violence (so there will be descriptions of attacks, wounds and blood).
Things had been stressful since Ned, Sansa and Arya all left for King’s Landing. There was a lot for you to do now that Lady Catelyn was spending day and night with Bran waiting for him to wake. Even when you did have time away, there wasn’t much to do. Robb was now acting Lord of Winterfell and Theon was constantly at his side– though it wasn’t like you’d spent too much time together anyway. Much to your dismay.
You found yourself wandering the courtyard or spending time at the Godswood whenever you weren’t tending to some sort of duty. Might as well enjoy the northern summer while it lasts. As the saying goes, Winter Is Coming and it is not something to be taken lightly in the North. It is one of those nights, just before you head off to your chambers when you hear… something going on. Your brow furrows with curiosity then fear as you watch Summer take off in a full sprint right into where Bran is being kept. Without a second thought, you take off after the wolf when you happen upon a scene that makes your blood run cold. Lady Catelyn is struggling against a man with a knife with only her bare hands when the direwolf comes to the rescue, tackling him and tearing his throat out.
Falling to your knees beside her, you grab hold of her hands. “Lady Catelyn, are you hurt?! What happened?” Without waiting for an answer, you turn her hands over to check, finding deep cuts to both. She still remains speechless, clearly in a daze and it is certainly no wonder considering what took place. “I’ll– I’ll get help.” You take a glance at the man on the floor, then an untouched Bran with Summer at his side before running out the door. “HELP– HELP!” you cry. Just then, Robb and Theon appear in the courtyard, rushing to answer your call. Again, you fall to your knees, the shaking so bad you couldn’t stand anymore. What if there was others? You left Lady Stark, what if something happened to her?
“Are you okay?” the boys ask, frantically scanning your body for an obvious signs of injury. “Lady Stark– you must go to Lady Stark! Someone tried to hurt her and Bran, GO!” Robb’s eyes go wide as he takes off, while Theon bends down and takes your blood covered hands. “Are you hurt, Y/N?” the concern in his voice is evident as his words come out rushed and nearly blended together. Panting, you shook your head. “I’m fine, you must go with Robb,” you insisted. He hesitates, but releases you then takes off after him. Even if your entire upbringing was spent bickering, there was an instinct to look out for one another. You were a pack– Stark or not.
The perimeter was searched in order to assure that there was no one around to finish the job and everyone was safe. Luckily, they found nothing. After checking in with Catelyn, you headed for your chambers. You needed the rest and yet sleep evaded you. Your mind raced with all the what if’s. What if they had succeeded, what if there was still someone out there.. so on and so forth.
So, you laid there for a while before you just couldn’t handle the stillness and silence anymore. You rose to your feet and peered out the window, allowing yourself that one moment before hurrying to tie up your head wrap. Everyone was supposed to be asleep, but you never know. This wasn’t just about you, Catelyn and Ned would certainly be punished if they were found harboring a Targaryen princess.
You sighed as you finished, wishing you could spend just a little bit of time with the nighttime winds blowing through your hair. Then, you pulled a fur robe over your night gown and started out down the hall until you reached the courtyard. It was so quiet out in the snow, save for the soft crunching of footsteps that could just barely be heard on the outside of the walls. Everyone was on high alert.
The cool air felt good on your warm skin— blood of the dragon and all that. You were making your way to a bench when you heard footsteps behind you, immediately causing you to turn around. Inhaling a sharp gasp, you were just about to scream when you found that it was Robb. You sighed heavily, placing your hand on your chest which your heart was nearly beating out of.
“You scared me!” you whisper-shouted. Robb’s face had been stoic, but then broke into a smirk. “Sorry, my lady.” That granted him the eye roll he was so clearly looking for. Though, it was usually Theon teasingly calling you the lady you were clearly not. “I just needed some air. It’s impossible to sleep after that whole mess.” You sighed, fingers rubbing at the bridge of your nose. “Well, you’re not alone in that, ” he murmured.
Having a quiet moment alone with Robb was.. a bit odd to say the least. The two of you hadn’t really shared moments like this since you were kids. He had responsibilities to tend to now and so did you. “I just don’t understand who would’ve done this. Why would anyone want to hurt Bran?” Robb stiffened before shaking his head, just as lost.
You turned to face him, indigo hues focused on his Tully blues. “I need to do something, Y/N. Someone tried to kill my brother-- twice. My mother thinks it was the Lannisters.. I’d believe it but saying anything will start a war. And everyone knows what Lord Tywin is capable of. I...” his words were rushed, the panic evident. This was all too much, resting heavy on the shoulders of a 17-year-old boy.
“We’re going to figure out who did this and we’re going to make them pay,” you replied, resting your hand gently on top of his. He looked confused. “We?” You nodded, “Yes, we. I love Bran too and I won’t stop until we discover the truth.” You were stronger than he knew, not a lady trained only to serve others. “My mother rides for King’s Landing tomorrow to find proof. We can’t act before she gets it.” You nodded, he was right. If he decided to start the conflict before knowing the truth, then this could lead to a terribly bloody conflict all for nothing. The two of you shared a long look before you removed your hand from atop his, not realizing how long it’d been there. You may have shared tender gestures like these as children but it was no longer appropriate when he was was the heir of Winterfell and you were nobody. So, you rose from your place next to him and hugged the furs closer to your body as you walked back towards your chambers.
“Goodnight, Y/N.”
“Goodnight, Robb.”
That night, you dreamt of your childhood, a memory you thought of fondly. It was before Rickon, Bran was a newborn, Arya was just a babe and Sansa was a toddler. So, it was you and the boys-- Jon and Robb. Theon had yet to be taken on as a ward. The three of you ran around the woods as you did quite often. You had been looking back at them as the chased you, not paying attention to what was in front of you when you sent yourself flying forward after catching your foot on a rock. Bracing for impact, you placed your hands out in front so you wouldn’t damage your face. You yelped as your palms were torn up, feeling your eyes well up with tears. Sitting up, you began to cry looking at all the dirt and blood. Jon and Robb ran over, frantically assessing the damage. Robb moved before Jon could, taking your small hands in his own and examining them. “Are you okay?” he asked, turning his gaze up to meet your eyes. “No!” you huffed, tears still falling down your cheeks. Without another word, he wiped away the mixture of blood and dirt with his sleeve and placed a kiss on each one, mimicking what his mother did when he got hurt. “All better?” he asked, a hopeful smile on his lips. The tears subsided and you smiled, nodding your head. You remember it being the first time you ever felt butterflies.
When you awoke, you could feel the difference in the air. Things were tense now. No matter what Lady Stark discovered, something big was about to happen-- you could feel it in your bones. Whatever it was that happened to Bran sparked something. After dressing, you entered the courtyard and saw Catelyn, preparing for her trip with Ser Rodrik. You ran to see her off before the long journey down the Kingsroad, the last one to say your goodbyes. Your eyes were sad but you forced a smile, as did she. Taking your hands, she spoke, “Take care of them.. please.” She didn’t just mean Bran and Rickon but Robb, too. Sure, he was considered a man now but he was still her boy and she was trusting you keep him from caving under the pressures of his new duties. “I will, I promise,” you said with a nod, feeling tears prick at your eyes. You hated to see her go to such an unsafe place. She nodded, her own eyes looking watery despite the smile on her lips. Taking you into her arms, both of you hold each other tight. Backing away, Catelyn takes your face into her hands. “Don’t worry too much, child,” she said softly. This would be a lot for you to deal with as well, she knew that. It reminded you of when she had to calm you after revealing your identity. Nodding, you backed away and allowed her to get onto her horse and set off.
You intended to keep your promise. You tried spending some time with Bran but you never stayed for long, he was always asking for everyone to leave him alone. It broke your heart, seeing the boy who was once so full of life be completely defeated. You played with Rickon when you could, the young boy’s laugh always putting you in better spirits. Theon was practically attached to Robb and you hardly ever saw either of them. But Catelyn had asked you a promise and you intended to keep it. You tried to visit Robb in the Great Hall or catch him on the way to his chambers, but he always claimed to be too busy to speak with you.
But one night, you finally managed to do it. It was a chance encounter, you spotting him just as he was going to reach his room. You rushed forward, standing in the way to prevent him from leaving. Stopped dead in his tracks, he looks to you with an unreadable expression. “I know you’ve been busy but I just--” He cut you off, “I don’t have time for this. It’s been a long day and I just want some rest, Y/N.” Your brow furrowed with frustration. “Seven hells-- let me speak! I just want to know if you’re okay... this has all been so much, I wanted to check in on you,” your voice grew more soft as you continued to speak. He sighed heavily, “I’m fine, Y/N. You don’t need to worry about me, let’s just both get some rest, okay?” Your gaze was cast downwards before finally looking up, “Fine.” You moved and walked away in frustration. As you turned around a corner, you spotted Theon, who was giving you a questioning look. “What was that, Y/N?” he questioned. You knew what he was insinuating, causing you to only scoff as you pushed past him. He’d been teasing you since you were young about it but you dismissed it every time.
The next morning, you unknowingly walked in on a meeting between Robb and some lords from surrounding areas. Once he spotted you, though, he halted the conversation. So definitely something you weren’t supposed to be listening to– noted. “Robb,” you called, causing all heads to turn. The men stared at you in shock. “…Lord Stark, Lord Tyrion has returned from his trip to the wall. He wishes to speak to you.” Before you can get the door to let him in, he simply does it himself. You stole once last glance before slipping out, off to find something to do.
Weeks went on and Lady Catelyn was still gone on her mission to find the truth about what had happened to her son. Ned remained in the lion’s den down south and all that Robb could do was keep the peace in the North. But the people were growing antsy as word of growing tensions began to reach Winterfell, as were you. On sleepless nights, which was many of them, you ventured out into the courtyard where you practiced your sword work. Before Jon had left, you two practiced from time to time after quite a lot of begging. You may not have been a Lady but you were still a woman and he had said it wasn’t your place to be fighting. It wasn’t meant as an insult, either, he just didn’t want you to end up hurt because of it. You pushed and pushed until he caved, though. A true Northwoman you were; fierce and stubborn.
“Jon, please!” you whined. The pair of you were fourteen at the time. Jon had already been training for several years. He was talented and the only one you had even a chance in persuading to train you to fight. “Y/N, I told you, I can’t!” There was nothing else for you to say, but the look in your eyes was pleading. “Seven hells...” he huffed, an admission of defeat. You grinned and the two of you disappeared into the woods where he began to teach you all he knew. Grunts and sword clangs could be heard for some distance. Just then, Jon spotted something, his eyes going wide as he dropped his weapon. Confused, you whipped around to face whatever it was, hiding the sword behind your back as if it changed anything. It was Robb and Theon. “What do you two think you’re doing?” Theon spoke first. “I asked him to. I want to know how to defend myself!” you shouted back. He scoffed, “You’re a girl! You don’t need to know anything.” Taking the sword from behind your back, you pointed it in his direction. “Shut up!” you yelled. Theon gasped, surely ready to bark back some stupid insult. That’s when Robb stepped in between you two, pushing the end of your weapon down gently. “That’s enough,” he had decided. The three of you then ventured back to Winterfell, Robb trying to mediate the bickering between you and Theon while Jon hung his head. Surprisingly, you still managed to persuade him into continuing your training, this time during periods where no one would think to look for you both. Sometimes you’d meet late at night or early in the morning.
Everything finally boiled over when Ned was imprisoned and Sansa held captive while Arya’s whereabouts remained unknown. Robb quickly assembled the Great Lords whose allegiance was pledged to House Stark in the Great Hall of the castle and determined they would march South and retrieve his father and sisters. You just happened to hear the conversation echoing as you passed through the halls. I’m going with them, you thought to yourself. So you dashed off, hurrying to your room where you began packing away all you would need in a trunk. Even if you had to sneak yourself onto the trip, you were going one way or another. Hopefully it would be alongside Robb.
Not long after, you spotted him leaving Bran’s chambers. Exhaling a deep breath, you approached him with confidence. “I know what you’re doing and I’m going with you,” you said so matter-of-factly. His eyes narrowed. “You’re not,” his voice was resolute as he stepped aside and walked past. Turning quickly on your heels, you grabbed hold of his arm and pulled him backwards. “Yes I am! I will not stay here performing mindless chores while your– our family is under attack!” His jaw was clenching and he opened his mouth to speak again before you cut him off. You weren’t a Stark, you knew that, but Ned had saved you from certain death and it was about time you returned the favor.
“I won’t cause problems,” your voice becoming softer. “I can help…I-I know how to fight, you know I do. I’ll send myself into the front lines if it means you’ll let me come. Please, Robb.” His brow furrowed in thought as he sighed, “I can’t send you out there.” That was a given, though. A woman was not meant to be a solider. “You must-- Let me tend to the mens’ wounds then, anything! I just can’t sit here wondering what’s happening to you all-- I won’t.” You hated begging, you shouldn’t have to. If that’s what got you out there, though, then it would be worth it. It was a long silence between you two and his eyes felt like daggers, piercing through you as he looked down to meet yours. Your heart was nearly beating out of your chest when, finally, he spoke again. “Fine. We march in an hour, gather what you can.” A sigh of relief passed through your lips. “Thank you,” you said softly. Robb said nothing, instead giving a look with a meaning you couldn’t seem to figure out. Was it.. concern, maybe? It was nearly impossible to tell. You hurried back to your chambers, assessing the room one last time to see if there’s anything you’d forgotten. In a rush, you allowed yourself one last look at Rickon and Bran’s sleeping faces, swallowing the lump in your throat. You’d miss them. Who knows if you’d ever see them again. You had to believe that you would, though, that you’d return to them with Ned and their sisters, successfully reuniting them all. Probably far too idealistic for the harsh realities of the world, but you had to hold out hope.
Your belongings were loaded onto a cart as you jumped up on a horse. You may have been lowborn, but you were still allowed to march close to the front, much to the high lords’ confusion. None of them had time to question it, though. It was time for war; not just for justice of the Stark family but for the North as a whole. It was time to take their land back from the Southerners who cared so little for them. The North would be free again, now and always.

week 4.
this week i loved . . .
The Wolves Will Come Again by usuallysunny
Robb and Jon have always been together, riding into battle with their matching direwolves by their sides.
It only stands to reason they would journey to Kings Landing together to bring their sisters home - and once there, would fall completely and dangerously in love with two women they can never have.
au where jon didn’t go to the wall, and instead fights by Robb’s side. they trade jaime for their sisters - except arya isn’t there, so when Robb stays to negotiate a truce in KL, jon travels alone with sansa back north. the first chapter is about robb and margaery, and the second is jon and sansa.
i thoroughly enjoyed reading this over the last two days, and honestly i don’t really mind robb and margaery so i had no issues reading the first chapter, esp considering that this person is a very good author, and can keep your attention through anything. the story hit all the emotional beats, and developed both relationships very organically, and stayed true to all four characters all the while.
seriously, if you like this au, then you will love this version of it and you should read this immediately.
honourable mentions . . .
i have two this week, so i’m putting them below the cut.
The Cursed Teenage Witch by @vivilove-jonsa
Being a teenage witch sounds cool but Sansa Stark would tell you it's got some drawbacks in her case. She fears she'll never know requited romantic love for one thing.
After the defensive spell she cast against Joffrey went awry, the Sorceress Cersei cursed her after all. “If my son’s heart was not good enough for you, none shall be. From this day until your last day, Sansa Stark, your love will be like poison. Any man who you should love, who falls in love with you in return, shall perish.”
Despite her dear granny's attempts to lessen Cersei's evil spell, she just can't take that kind of risk. Not even for Jon Snow, right?
sansa is cursed by cersei in revenge, and thinks any man she loves and is loved by will die. and then jon shows up . . .
honestly i can’t believe i was sleeping on this. it was super fun, as everything by vivi always is, and it featured an amazing plot twist about half way through! i will mention nothing about this, other than that i loved it and that i can’t wait for you to read it as well!
Can’t Buy Me Love by @periwinkle39
In an effort to make "easy" money, Robb, Theon and Arya send random billionaires fake wedding invitations to see if they send back gifts and cash.
Unbeknownst to Sansa and Jon, they are the fake bride and groom.
Unbeknownst to Robb, Theon and Arya, Sansa and Jon know some billionaires.
Yeah, it's crack fic based on a tumblr post ;)
yeah basically just a fake wedding to scam billionaires au, but without jon and sansa’s knowledge. it’s great.
i originally read this on tumblr a couple days ago, and while just looking for a link i was DELIGHTED to find that this has been posted to ao3. this features really cute and awkward jonsa, crazy scheming by robb, theon, and arya, and also HILARIOUS voicemails left by dany.

Jonsa: A Dream of Spring @jonsadreamofspring
Day 6: Parallels / King and Queen / Memories Aka: Jonsa Homecoming King and Queen Au
If you looked up the term ‘golden child’ in the dictionary you would probably find a picture of Sansa Stark. She was a straight A student, she was considerate of others, she was responsible, she volunteered, and started the school’s composting initiative. She was clever and kind and beautiful. So it really didn’t surprise anyone when she was nominated for Homecoming Queen.
Jon Snow on the other hand wasn’t exactly your typical Homecoming King but he got nominated anyway.
“It’s probably just some stupid underclassmen that think he has dreamy eyes.” Jeyne said as Sansa stood at her locker pulling out books for her next lesson. “He’s not going to win or anything.” Sansa made a non-committal sound.
She didn’t really care who won Homecoming King. She didn’t really care if she won Homecoming Queen. It might look good on her applications to university, but it wasn’t like it was her only achievement at school. Jon was in some of her classes and was her brother’s best mate so they knew each other, but they weren’t really friends. Sansa seemed to be involved in every aspect of school life, volunteering, organising, studying, tutoring; but whenever she saw Jon he was either with Robb, Theon, or walking his dog. He wasn’t exactly typical Homecoming King stuff.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Did you see that you and Jon are in the lead for Homecoming King and Queen?” Robb asked, sitting on the bench next to where Sansa was cooking dinner. Both their parents were working tonight, so Sansa was on cooking duty and Robb on cleaning duty. Arya was on bedtime duty, which never ended well. She told scary stories and then Rickon couldn’t sleep unless he was curled up in Sansa’s bed.
“Yeah I saw the poll.” She chopped carrots for a moment. “Did you nominate Jon?” She asked, trying to sound nonchalant.
“Nope, I think it was Theon.” Robb stole a carrot slice from the chopping board. “As a joke. You know Jon, he’s the most awkward introvert in the whole North, so Theon probably thought it would be a laugh to nominate him.”
“That’s kinda mean.”
“That’s Theon.” Robb shrugged and stole another carrot. “I don’t think he realised how much Jon helps people behind the scenes, didn’t realise how popular Jon was, in a quiet kind of way.” Sansa stopped chopping and looked at her twin brother.
“What do you mean?”
“Well, he tutors underclassmen pretty much every afternoon-”
“He’s not at the tuition program.” Sansa objected, her head tilted slightly.
“He doesn’t like the program, says it’s too focused on ‘improving grades and not actual understanding of the subject’.” Robb made air quotes. “He also helps out at the vet, you know Davos’ vet?” Sansa nodded. “And the animal shelter. He’ll bring extra lunch to school because some kids don’t have any.” Robb shrugged. “And he’s got pretty okay grades.”
“I didn’t know.” Sansa muttered.
“Jon doesn’t brag about it.” Robb hopped off the bench and walked over to the fridge, opening it and perusing the contents. “How long ‘til dinner’s ready?”
“About 20 minutes.” Sansa replied, finishing chopping the carrots.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sansa petted Lady as she waited in the small room of the vet. Lady needed her shots and Sansa had organised to walk her around alone so her mum and dad could watch Rickon’s lacrosse game. Of course being a lacrosse game for the under 7’s it mostly ended up in one kid hitting the other with the stick.
Sansa heard the gentle tap at the door and held onto Lady’s leash as the vet nurse entered, even though Lady would never bolt for the door, or jump on someone. She did begin to wag her tail excessively and that’s when Sansa realised it was Jon Snow who seemed to be reading over Lady’s history.
“Hello Lady.” He said, kneeling down and ruffling the dog’s ears. “Hi Sansa.” She couldn’t help but smile slightly at Jon’s priorities. Dogs first, then people.
“Hey Jon, how are you?”
“Not bad. Working here a lot. How are you?” He asked, taking the lead from her hand and moving Lady to the fancy table that lowered to the floor then rose to be right height for the vet.
“I’m okay. Trying to get my dress sorted for Homecoming.”
“Oh right. That’s soon, yeah?”
“Two weeks.” There was an awkward pause as Jon examined Lady’s teeth and made notes for Davos, the vet. “You have a date?” She asked for want of something to ask.
“Nope, flying solo. You?” He chuckled before lowering his pen. “Of course you have a date.” He shook his head and smiled slightly.
“Actually, I don’t. I was thinking about just tagging along with Robb, but he’s got an actual date.” She said feeling a little annoyed at the way he’d said the last comment.
“Yeah, he told me.”
“He didn’t tell me who!” Sansa exclaimed feeling slightly betrayed by her brother. Probably thought I’d tease him.
“Fryd.”
“Football Fred or Lacrosse Fryd?” She asked. Jon turned to her.
“Wynafryd Manderly.”
“Lacrosse Fryd.” Sansa muttered, nodding her head.
“She doesn’t play lacrosse.”
“She’s Rickon’s coach. It’s why Robb has been attending the games with an almost religious fervor.”
“What about football Fred?”
“Robb’s been hanging out around the football team more often than usual and Fred Flint is fit.”
“Makes sense.” Jon nodded and they lapsed into silence for a moment. “So do you maybe wanna go to Homecoming alone together?” He asked, running his hand through hair that was just long enough to tie into a half up style, avoiding looking at her.
Sansa moved toward Jon and Lady, patting her dog.
“Yeah. I’d like that.” She smiled at him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“What colour dress are you wearing to Homecoming?” Robb shouted making Sansa jump and her hand jerk causing a harsh black line across her, otherwise perfect, notes.
“Pink!” She shouted back without much thought. It wasn’t until later, when she was getting ready for bed she wondered by Robb wanted to know. She crossed the hall and tapped on his door.
“Oi! Why did you want to know what colour dress I’m wearing to Homecoming?” She lent against the doorframe, watching as Robb stuffed books into his school bag.
“Theon, Jon, and I went to buy corsages and he asked me to stealthily find out your dress colour so he could match the corsage.”
“And shouting it at me is stealthy?” She raised a bemused eyebrow at him. He shrugged.
“At least your corsage wont clash terribly with your dress.” She nodded in agreement before returning to her room.
The was sweet of Jon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sansa check the contents of her tiny clutch purse for the fourth time in the space of about 5 minutes.
Phone? Check. Money, just in case? Check. Lipstick? Check. Keys? No! Wait, Jon is driving, you don’t need keys.
She let out a sigh and glanced at the clock. Jon should be arriving any moment. She lifted a leg and examined her sparkly pink shoe, smiling. She liked these shoes, they were bright, and girly, and thoroughly impractical.
“You look lovely.” She turned and saw Jon standing in the doorway, an awed smile on his face. He wore an all black suit with a pink pocket square, the shade matching her dress exactly. She smiled.
“Not too shabby yourself.” He reached out a hand to help her stand and she took it, enjoying the warmth of his palm.
“My dad let me borrow his car for the night so we don’t have to ride in my shit box.” He said, walking her down to the fancy black car. She knew Jon’s dad was rich, he’d have to be to attend Winterfell Prep, but she also knew Jon wasn’t close to him.
“That was kind.” She offered, not wanting to spark anything negative.
He opened the passenger door for her. “It was nice.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Your Homecoming King, Jon Snow and your Homecoming Queen, Sansa Stark will now take the floor!” The over excited MC announced.
It was corny, and old fashioned, but a part of Sansa loved the fact that the King and Queen would have a dance as the rest of the class joined in.
Jon lead her to the middle of the floor. He placed a hand gently on her waist and there was a moment of complete stillness and Sansa was sure Jon could hear the beating of her heart. Then the music began and Jon guided her around the dance floor.
“You dance surprisingly well.” She commented after a while, noticing Fryd wince slightly as Robb trod on her toes.
“Thanks.” He smiled gently at her.
The song ended and was followed by energetic music, more suited to groups than couples.
“Would you like some punch?” Jon said into her ear, his lips brushing her earlobe. She nodded. He took her hand and led her over to the punch stand, procured two glasses, and gestured to a quiet little alcove not far from them.
“So how does it feel to be royalty?” She asked, sipping the overly sugary drink. Jon chuckled. “A privilege I neither sought nor wanted. What about you, your grace?” He said with a small bow. Sansa laughed.
“It’ll look good when I apply for uni I suppose.”
“You didn’t want to be queen?” He asked looking surprised.
“No, it wasn’t exactly the ambition of my high school career.” She shrugged. “But my mother did say I have the perfect shaped head for a tiara.” Jon laughed at this before taking a sip of his own drink. She noticed a droplet of punch clinging to his lip and had an impulse to kiss it off.
Jon was sweeter than she’d realised, kinder too. He thought of others first and was considerate of those around him. And he looked great in a suit.
“So do you think people understand our whole ‘going alone together’ thing?” She asked as a means of distracting herself from Jon’s lips. He looked at his shoes before answering her.
“I kinda think the whole matching corsage and pocket square might have suggested friends going together, at least.”
“At least?” She asked, taking a half a step toward him.
“Some people, maybe some people who are here with a really clever and funny and beautiful girl, people who have trouble talking with other people, people who think said girl has a really cute dog and a nice brother but not as nice as her, might think that this was a date.” He suggested, staring at his shoes again. Sansa half smiled.
“Would these people also happen to have stupid plastic crowns on their heads?” He looked at her and smiled.
“Yeah.” She moved closer again, reaching her free hand out to tangle her fingers with his.
“I kinda think it’s a date too.” She whispered.
And then Jon was kissing her or maybe she was kissing Jon. Either way it was only a matter of moments before Theon wolf whistled loudly at them.
Joining the Game Late: S4E6 “The Laws of Gods and Men”
Synopsis
Davos makes a heartfelt speech for a bank loan. Yara tries to be a hero but can’t fight off dogs or Stockholm Syndrome. Ramsey gets kind of gay, but don’t worry - he got a no homo scene first. Dany’s rule of Meereen has a few hiccups. Oberyn is not a morning person, and Varys catches everyone up on the Essos plot before coming out as ace - pre-castration, that is. Hope you like callbacks in your courtroom procedurals. Jaime tries to make a backdoor deal with his father, but then Shae lies on the stand against Tyrion causing Tyrion to give a big Shakespearean speech. This is going to end in trial by combat...again.
Commentary
If you like Tyrion this episode and this season in general are amazing displays for him. There’s so much to enjoy about his growing frustrations with the farce of a trial put on by his father and propped up by his sister, and when I referenced Shakespeare above I was specifically reminded of Shylock’s courtroom speech in The Merchant of Venice, only more bitter and shockingly malicious. I think the malice comes as a surprise to Tyrion himself, but after he’s seen so many of his actions from previous seasons turned against him - including his heroism at the Battle of the Blackwater - and Shae taking the stand to lie about their relationship it absolutely makes sense that this rage would come out now. In my opinion it’s all the worse because Tyrion anticipated this kind of thing happening when he dismissed Podrick, and now he gets to see his fears realized as someone close to him is turned against him by his enemies - and no doubt also in part because of his own cruelty to her. I have read that Shae is almost an entirely different character in the show and her relationship with Tyrion developed much more, so I have a feeling that the betrayal comes across as far more poignant here than it does on the page. Of course I know who’s going to die as a result of all of this, but that just makes me all the more eager to see the completion of this evolution of his character.
Granted, the trial only takes up about the last third of this hour; there are other scenes, and some of them far from King’s Landing. But two of them in particular play into the ideas of loyalty and justice that get so thoroughly dismantled by the later trial that they’re welcome digressions...even if this episode makes for a surprisingly underwhelming visual introduction to the city of Braavos. Davos vouches for Stannis’s worth as a just leader - if not exactly a kind one, it still weirds me out that he wears getting his fingers partially chopped off like a badge of honor - while Daenerys is placed in the difficult position of showing compassion to the families of the slavers she’d crucified, not to mention paying off who knows how many goatherds after her dragons devour their flocks. That these scenes come in the episode’s first half give it a good rhythm that builds to the crescendo of the trial itself, set up and punctuated by quieter moments where Oberyn and Varys make a point about desire and Jaime sticks his neck out for his brother. As far as the Lannister siblings go I’m pretty fairly Team Cersei, but damned if it isn’t hard to root for Tyrion here, or grit your teeth along with Jaime once Tyrion goes off-script.
Oh yeah, and Ramsey gives Theon Reek a bath and tells him he’s going to have to pretend to be Theon Greyjoy to help Ramsey capture a castle. It’s a predictably twisted psychological plot thread wrapped up in a bout of demented homoeroticism - Ramsey is bathing Theon while asking if he loves him, after all. I don’t know how I feel about Ramsey having a sex scene cut with Yara infiltrating the Dreadfort, as he apparently doesn’t have a mistress in the books and so the addition only serves to make his relationship with Theon look slightly less gay. The guy’s a twisted asshole who makes Christian Grey look like a loving and rational Dom, but...eh. A gay villain every now and then’s not the end of the world. Also, why is his chest covered in bloody slashes when he shows up in the kennels to confront Yara? I’ve heard of blood play, but his girlfriend must be into some really heavy stuff to make all that.
A Game of Thrones Rant - Who the show did the most disservice to and why - In MY opinion
WARNING: SPOILERS ABOUT SEASONS 1-8 OF GAME OF THRONES ARE BELOW. Continue reading at your own spoiler-free risk
Hey, guys! So it’s almost been FIVE whole months since the last ever episode of ‘Game of Thrones’ aired and it blows my mind. Whilst I still am in the minority (well, it seems) of enjoying Season 8, I have my main nag about it. One thing that I always look back on and feel disappointed in the show, and George’s decision - despite respecting his decisions, rooting for his decisions and not wanting any opinion to sway him - and that decision is the WINNER of the Game of Thrones ended up being....
The Three-Eyed Raven. No, this is NOT Brandon Stark, Son of Eddard and Catelyn Stark of Winterfell. This is not Brandon Stark, the boy who was pushed off the tower by Jaime Lannister. This is not Brandon Stark, the boy who chose for Rickon and Osha to leave his side for their own safety. This is not Brandon Stark, the boy who was part of the family Theon Greyjoy betrayed. This is NOT BRANDON STARK. Do I need to give anymore examples as to why BRAN STARK is NOT THE WINNER OF THE GAME OF THRONES?
When the characters decided for Bran to be the ruler of the Six Kingdoms, I couldn’t help but feel... Disappointed. I had been disappointed with a few elements of Season 8 don’t get me wrong, from the lack of us seeing Daenerys’ downfall (which would have been incredible, and would have even prevented so much backlash from her fans!) And as a Lena Headey fanatic, I was completely saddened by her not having a season-defining moment as she would have knocked it out of the park, but the main thing I was disappointed in was Bran winning the prize.
It confused me as to why I was disappointed, as I’ve never found Bran an unlikable or ‘BORING’ character as many fans called him. But then it clicked, I did find Bran boring in Seasons 7 and 8... I found him a vile character, from not giving a care in the world after Hodor sacrificed himself for he and Meera, to completely shunning Meera, a companion of his who had cared for him for as long as I can remember, from the disturbing scene where he mentioned Sansa’s rape scene to SANSA. And also pretty much causing the sacrifices of Theon, Melisandre Jorah, Edd, Lyanna, Beric and many others who fought to save him despite most likely knowing how the events of The Long Night would unfold. It just doesn’t make any sense.
My point is, Bran’s role in the final 2 seasons were VERY poor. People say that the writers did disservice to Daenerys, Jaime, Jon, etc etc etc but I think they did worse for Bran. ‘Bran the Boring’ is what people call him, but he ISN’T BORING??? People rooted for Bran when Jaime pushed him off from the tower, they rooted for him and the entire Stark family to reunite, they rooted for him to find the Three-Eyed Raven, they rooted for him to shout of for Jon at Craster’s Keep!
The Bran we knew in the end, was NOT Bran. And I don’t care what anybody says, I feel as though the writers had no idea what to do with him once he became the Three-Eyed Raven and its mainly due to lack of source material (meaning A Song of Ice and Fire).
Despite how amazing the episode of ‘The Door’ was, I can’t help but feel disappointed at the ending because that is the episode where not only Hodor dies, but Bran and any sort of character development he has had dies, too.
Another character I felt that the show did a LOT of disservice to, is...
Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish. The biggest creep in the whole of Westeros (probably). Littlefinger had always been a slime-ball, but I found every scene he was in through Season 1 to 4 being thoroughly entertaining. What I found so engrossing about the character of Littlefinger was his unpredictability, you had no idea what he was going to do next! And in the episode of ‘The Mockingbird’ he went from kissing Sansa to declaring his love to her Aunt Lysa before pushing her down The Moon Door! And despite dropping hints to Eddard Stark in Season 1, it still shocks people to the core that he actually betrays him to the LANNISTER FAMILY! Despite his creepiness, and this is still creepy, I do believe he always had his best interests at heart with Sansa - I mean, why would he have pushed Lysa down the Moon Door if not? And why risk his head with Cersei & Tywin by rescuing Sansa from Kings Landing? (Again, still CREEPY as hell)
This scene, featuring in Season 5 Episode 3, ‘The High Sparrow’ was the very moment the character of Petyr Baelish died on our screens. Although there has been a tonne of backlash against Sansa’s controversial time with the Bolton family in Winterfell, I feel as though there is something people are missing here. Why the HELL???? Would Littlefinger have rescued Sansa from Kings Landing, from a DANGEROUS family who would KILL HER, only to put her back in Winterfell under the same circumstances? Littlefinger is not idiotic, he would NOT do this!
Season 7 for Littlefinger was another low, following Sansa like a lost puppy was not like him at all, either. And falling to his knees to Arya, Bran and Sansa in his final moments were cringe-worthy, not even trying to scheme his way out of escaping his own death in his style. Not even using his sharp tongue against them like he did with Cersei in the “Knowledge is Power” moment, or in the aftermath of Lysa’s death. Or during Catelyn’s confrontation following his betrayal against Ned.
I understand that Littlefinger is not an exact book to screen copy, BUT Seasons 1 to 4 showed him to be a fantastic character, one who would fight at all costs to get what he wanted in the end.
I actually feel disturbed for even speaking positively about Littlefinger, BUT he was a FANTASTIC player in ‘The Game of Thrones’ - until Season 5.
I hope you enjoyed reading, if you’ve gotten this far! I get that Bran and Littlefinger aren’t hugely popular with the fanbase, but I feel as though there is more than enough comments towards the endings of Daenerys’ & Jaime’s stories
GOT rant
I think the most wildly frustrating thing about this ENTIRE game of thrones debacle is that I can’t even remember the last time I felt this thoroughly invalidated about the way I feel.
I am a writer and I love stories, but most of all I love CHARACTERS. I have a passion for editing stories and smoothing things out to make character arcs feel believable and like the dialogue and choices ring true and feel as natural them as possible. And as such, I feel like I have a good eye and solid intuition about when things feel a bit off the rails, but every single time I have spoken up about the dissonance within season 8, I have been hushed.
I have been told that I can’t say the show is making incorrect or “wrong” choices because it’s not my creation- that I therefore am being unreasonable in my own right if I critique the writing or say it seems lazy or poorly fleshed out or straight up bizarre. That I am a hater for using my ability to employ critical thinking.I have been tossed the age old insult that I am both too invested and also somehow clearly missing things. I have been told that others are “even more on dany’s side than me” or that they “love her just as much as me, but this was the only obvious outcome and it’s clear through the entire series.” Wanting something that simply made sense means I am being an ignorant thrones fan who just wants a “happy ending.” “BS. If everyone including dany dies in the end for a justifiable, believable reason and its how the entire show ends, I wouldn’t enjoy it but I could understand it and that’s truly all I’m asking for. I am so sick of being shushed and silenced....
And it’s ALL by my peers who are MALE fans of the show. Every woman I know who loves this franchise LOVES the dimension of dany and feels robbed. But every man I’ve spoken to personally in my small corner of the world is perfectly content with the crazy ex girlfriend logic being implemented in this show and I find it both invalidating and absolutely bonkers. To have my sound logic rebutted with flat, non dimensional absolutes that dany is just an angry emotional woman who’s lost everything and this was unavoidable because of her Targaryen blood is absolutely staggering. I have never been so heartbroken- not only for her, but for myself and the women I love that this is readily acceptable. Like what the actual heck?
And I am sick and tired of being told over and over and over again that this seasons ONLY issue was being rushed. I am completely over some of the smartest people I know repeating the rationale they were spoonfed by D&D as if they are valid factors behind the character’s choices and motivations. I am BEYOND baffled by the amount of smart, intellectual men that I have seen who fully accept this atrocity of a season at face value and BELIEVE that every choice Danaerys made in the last two episodes was fully validated, justified and foreshadowed and made apparent in a clear, obvious way throughout the entire series. That is garbage.
What was FORESHADOWED was the battle against the dead. What was FORESHADOWED was the power of the three eyed raven. What was FORESHADOWED was the prince who was promised and the intervention of the lord of light. What was FORESHADOWED was Jon’s Targaryen lineage and ultimate legitimacy and how it would eventually affect him.
And all of these legitimately foreshadowed things were all chucked out with the rubbish to pick up these random threads that they tried to weave into something that ultimately fell apart.... now I will concede that Dany was made increasingly cold and absolute in both her decision making and emotions approaching season 8. Dany is depicted as ruthless when exacting justice with the potential to go too far. That is very valid. There are hints of her potentially going too far and it having dire ramifications and potentially little remorse. I did not like this choice but it IS plausible. But what she does to Kings landing and the scale in which she does it has nothing to do with vengeance , retribution or justice- It’s just illogical. And that’s why it doesn’t fit....
a monarch who intends to protect the downtrodden suddenly becoming an intentional blind mass murderer of innocents who have already surrendered to her because her council betrays her and she decides to rule a dead city by fear MAKES NO SENSE! call it foreshadowing all you want but it’s an inconsistent plot point within a well established character.
A character having the potential for a poor decision based on their flaws is NOT the same thing as telling us it was the unavoidable conclusion to her tale. You cannot make a human character without giving them flaws. The existence of those flaws is not proof that the flaws will inevitably undo them. It only shows that there is a chance for something to happens.... not a direct indicator. The characters code of ethics, core beliefs, and level of self awareness still dictate how much power their shortcomings will have over them and how much they will indulge in their weakness. And with danaerys, despite her temper and despite her “divine right of kings” mentality that the iron throne should belong to a a Targaryen, there is SO MUCH MORE EVIDENCE to the validity of her good nature overruling her darker inclinations. At this point, she has been failed by her advisors, but she still wishes to make Westeros a better safer place, take back her birthright, avenge her fallen children and friends and be a better Targaryen than those before her. So it makes no sense for her to hurt civilians....Because Danaerys above all, wants to be a good ruler. She wants to be ruler who inspires love and deserves it. This is clear when she told Jon point blank in season 7 that she hopes she deserves the gift of both his faith in her and the faith of the north backing her. She makes this incredibly genuine confession even in the wake of handling the heart crushing loss of her first dragon and child. This is something that would typically consume her with grief, but she is instead concerned with the world at large and hoping she is worthy of the trust bestowed upon her.
This is not the sentiment of a cruel unreasonable tyrant. It is the true heart of Danaerys Targaryen. It is an indicator of humility, objectivity and positive potential. It is an indicator of the fact that she DOES deserve love and loyalty. That caring about whether or not she deserves the sacrifices others make for her will drive her to make wise, good choices that benefit those who support her and ultimately benefit the world at large because she considers the ramifications of her actions and how they affect the people while none of the other rulers of Westeros have.
The complete abandonment of her prior sense of justice and self awareness in her dialogue in the throne room in episode 6 is inconsistent with a ruler who never wanted to be her father. Her logic is tyrannical then and *out of character*- then she dips back into being madly in love with Jon : not because she is crazy but because this monologue is incohesive and needs revision!
As a woman who has been sweet and soft her entire life, I am so done with being trampled on by boys and their incoherent rhetoric. I was abused my entire life and sexually taken advantage of by a man I called my husband at the time. I am not as sweet and delicate as I used to be prior to that. I’ve had seasons where I lost absolutely everything and it devastated me. And at my core I am the same girl, but I have more grit now. I stand up for myself and I have more strength to assert myself and stand up for those around me. Not because of my abuse (Sansa), but in spite of it. I get walked over less and am honest and driven while still being idealistic...But none of that makes me ”MAD”. Those are not symptoms of insanity or depravity. Nor are they evidence that should I systematically lose everything all over again that I would commit mass murder. No, Madness is not what danaerys suffers from. Danaerys suffered from being written in a short sighted, poorly plotted way that was inconsistent with her heart and narrative.
Danaerys was being tipped in a direction that certainly contained much more chilling absoluteness, but that DOES NOT justify ANYTHING. If that is the rationale alone, then Sansa is the same character! Other characters, including female characters in this show, have done heinous things but there is NO other character who was labeled as entirely beyond salvation after a *single* choice. And that is another nail in the coffin of this backwards logic!!
Tyrion betrayed her and undermined and redirected her so many times but still lived to tell jon to kill her BECAUSE SHE WAS LOYAL ENOUGH TO HIM TO LET HIM LIVE EVEN AFTER TELLING HIM HIS NEXT BETRAYAL WOULD BE HIS LAST! if dany is truly “mad,” then there should be nothing at all holding her back from slaughtering him where he stands on the stone steps of kings landing when he insults and disrespects her in front of her entire army-but she doesn’t! She civiliy has him removed and chained and allows him visitors!!!! Yeah, what a completely irrational despot.
And even if she DID kill him, it would be because it was EARNED! He committed treason more than once and prioritized her enemies over her despite being HER hand. This was the FIRST Thing she does that is out of whack and they suddenly think she’s going to murder Jon snow because of a fear of his legitimacy? She’s never so much as raised her voice at him! So why in God’s name would she kills him?
She’s begged him, she’s shown him her desperation and vulnerability and fear and desire to connect with him, and shown him in every way she can that SHE is still on HIS side but after a single (albeit brutal) action, she is only bad and purely unsalvagable? What? Even Theon Greyjoy got a better redemption arc than that and he literally burned two little boys to death!
Can we also address the fact that Dany knew of John’s bloodline for nearly the ENTIRE season and does not breathe a word of it to anyone, even when her back is against the wall at dragonstone and everyone she trusts has failed her. It has not even occurred to her to betray him because regardless of what anyone else may say or think, danaerys is LOYAL, almost to a fault. She never treats John any differently outside of being shocked the moment it’s revealed and still continues to love and seek him out, desiring closeness with him as he pushes her out, because she still wishes to be with him regardless. Because she is not petty or terrified that he will steal people’s love from her. Even if she realizes she is out of place in the north, it never occurs to her to betray his confidence.
While goddang Sansa can’t even keep her petty sharp tongued mouth shut for a whole thirty minutes before she rats out his secret for her own short sighted benefit because she’s what?jealous of danaerys and thinks she’s smarter than John?
But sansa is openly praised in the aftermath of this series as our queen in the north !? For what? For being a snake? For ruining John’s life and getting the brother she wished to hold close exiled beyond the wall and suddenly being unable to form a single word to defend him in that council when she knows good and well that she started this and it’s her fault but she’s articulate enough not one breath later to ask for the north’s independence???? For seceding from Westeros when her own brother is king just so the whole world knows for sure just how racist and xenophobic the north is- not by tradition but by choice? For being an unoriginal, unclever mean girl who hates danaerys because she’s different and is jealous that she’s a queen and then Sansa gets her way and ruins her in the least strategic, most sloppy, pettiness fueled way ever? But Sansa is considered a beloved character by most men in the end while Dany is fed to the absolute wolves???? What?!
Danaerys has never lied or betrayed her word. She has always had a reason for every action she did. And in the world of game of thrones, she is not surrounded by innocent lambs. Tyrion is a murderer who’s gone free more than once. Jon broke his vows to the nights watch. Varys has hatched more murderous plots than can be counted- including plots aimed at Dany’s own life. Sansa was stone faced as she watched Ramsay die just as dany was at the death of Viserys. Arya has murders countless people- even to the depravity of feeding someone their own children in a pie. Tywin Lannister was calculating, cruel, vicious and treacherous and was a part of countless battles, rebellions and murders- including the red wedding. JAMIE LANNISTER PUSHED A SMALL CHILD OUT A GODDANG WINDOW AND CRIPPLED HIM FOR LIFE just so he could go back to rutting into his own sister in peace. Excuse me? what?? But none of these characters were killed after their FIRST offense. None of them had their internal motivations chocked up to a lazy shoulder shrug of “eh, grief, man. Never know what a woman will do. B*tches be crazy man. Guess I should’ve seen it coming. Signs were probably there all along-she did kill all those evil men tho.” Nor were ANY- not a single one of them- labeled “mad.”
“Mad” is someone like Craster who was beyond all morality and consistently showed a horrific lack of care for human life. “Mad” is someone like Ramsay Bolton who caused dismemberment, torture and rape for FUN. Danaerys Targaryen is not even close to being in this eschalon for a single choice. “Madness” in this particular universe is based on a series of repetitive, consistent patterns that continually choose the inhumane option because of no justifiable reason other than “because they want to”, and that’s just not what we’re working with here.
Dany has a temper. Dany can threaten fire and blood all she wants, but at the end of the day, she doesn’t blindly swing her axe. She is strategic and intentional. And above all else, she does not want to be queen of the ashes- she does not wish to be the next Targaryen to perpetuate crimes of cruelty. She’s already lived with an abusive brother and been haunted by the stories of her seemingly unhinged, possibly schizophrenic father. She shapes each choice she makes to help her become a ruler who only encites fear in the heart of those who wish to do evil, not in the common man. She wishes to liberate and free those who have been oppressed like her- like she is still being crushed, misused and mistreated by the people around her in season 8, episode 5.
So for her to suddenly snap and just take the choice of life away from thousands of innocent people and children in an instant to prove that what- she can if she wants to? MAKES NO SENSE. She wouldn’t harm innocents ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS AVOIDABLE AND SERVES NO PURPOSE!!! how does she risk everything she’s worked for to save all of humanity only to decimate the entire city she wishes to rule from in the span of 2 episodes??? Because what? she’s pouty that John won’t kiss her back? THAT IS NONSENSE. And it doesn’t even touch on the fact that CERSEI IS STILL IN THE CASTLE ! So if rage and grief are the “motivators” then why in the heck would she burn down the civilians of the city she wishes to rule and the leave the red keep virtually untouched while woman responsible for murdering missandei is still inside if vengeance is her game at this point? TELL ME HOW THAT MAKES SENSE. Oh you can’t? You know why? Because it doesn’t!
Either you make her full tilt crazy or let her be Dany, but don’t you dare mix the two and tell me it made a lick of sense. Or tell me that I’m being unreasonable just because I’m a girl who related to dany’s original arc. That’s nonsense. If this is a case of hereditary mental instability then where the heck are the signs?? Because even her fathers descent into madness was GRADUAL. He didn’t just wake up one day and light half the city on fire because he felt consumed by a certain mood- even psychotic breaks don’t work that way. If we’re looking at facts like they keep asking me to, targaryen madness was a long, grueling, arduous descent into chaos that broke Jamie Lannisters heart to watch.
So don’t you dare turn around and suddenly make Tyrion instigate her death just so you can a shitty parallel of both Targaryen monarchs being taken out by Lannisters they trusted or try to tell me that Dany being stabbed in a way she wasn’t suspecting by someone she loved is some kind of Targaryen poetic justice allusion to her father being run through the back when his chaos had reached its apex. Don’t you dare make me look her in the eye while her loving gaze collapses into confusion, hurt and disbelief as John plunges that stupid dishonorable knife in her. That was wrong. Just plain wrong. And none of us should have had to see it.
The “turn” of danaerys Targaryen was unfounded, unwarranted and sloppily executed, and I am tired of being spoken down to like I’m a dumb little girl for believing in this character and despising where they took her and how she got there.
im enjoying reading all the posts about current problematic fave louis ironson, and under one of them the person tagged that maybe they are louis trash for the same reason they are theon trash, and after my initial !!!!!! Same Hat!!! moment im now thinking wait holy shit
on a basic level, the reason those characters are so utterly close to my heart is because they are aggressively human. they are thoroughly disliked by a lot of audience members despite or because of the fact that there’s a lot of them in us. sometimes we make bad decisions out of cowardice and selfishness, sometimes we are weak. in fact most people are.
but there’s more specific stuff tying louis and theon together and it has to do with their character arcs (not really the themes of either work, but basic structure anyway:)
- both betray the person they love, because of an irreconcilable internal conflict. both regret doing this almost immediately, and never stop loving the person they betrayed - but still, they double down on the decision, because their own problems are too strong to overcome
- both are Guilty as Fuck, like in a way that manifests physically, and both are essentially searching for absolution which ultimately they have to give themselves
- both (now obviously these two things are not comparable in terms of scale but the shape is essentially the same) enter toxic relationships in their lowest points, in which the other person ‘loves’ them but in all the wrong ways and for the wrong reasons - and who, ultimately, hurts them (maybe even leaves some VISIBLE SCARS okay can’t believe im comparing ramsay cutting off theon’s fingers to joe punching louis in the face moving on)
- both expiate their sins through another person; the parallels become a bit twisted here because when theon saves Jeyne he’s simultaneously showing his character growth into bravery and strength; in the show’s version he’s atoning for the stark betrayal (yeah it’s whatever but that’s how they did it) AND he’s of course saving himself. and louis isn’t saving anyone, he’s forgiving but it’s still the growth into bravery because he faces this body dead from aids and touches it, and he’s also forgiving himself.
in conclusion these are fantastically real characters and they have these very satisfying arcs about identity and redemption and if there are no more fics or meta posts in this god damned fandom I guess i’ll have to write them myself
Top four ships
Let’s do top four ASOIAF ships just to keep my life easier, though Jonsa is obviously my top ship regardless of fandom.
Jon/Sansa
Theon/Robb
Jaime/Cersei
Ned/Catelyn
Last song
"Back to December” by Taylor Swift
Last movie
I can’t remember. Knives Out, maybe? Watched that (for the second time) at the end of January. I saw a screening of the ballet Giselle at a movie theater the other day but it wasn’t actually a movie. Probably in the past few weeks I rewatched some two-star movie that I find vaguely entertaining but I can’t for the life of me think what it would’ve been.
Oh, wait, no, I’ve got it. The last movie I watched was Miss Americana, the Taylor Swift documentary on Netflix. It was good!
Reading
I’ve been on a romance binge, and in particular I’ve been reading Sarah MacLean’s books, which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. I read through the Rules for Scoundrels series, and am currently finishing up the Scandal & Scoundrels series (albeit in the wrong order: I’m on 1, having already read 2 & 3). I’d recommend literally any of them.
What food are you craving
Hmmm, I don’t know about craving, but I’m making roasted brussels sprouts for dinner tonight and that’s always delicious.
Finished up the Theon sketch I shared yesterday :)
My favourite character, what a loss :( It was more heartbreaking than I was prepared for but at least he went down a hero <3
I've been thoroughly enjoying Alfie Allen's portrayal of him through the seasons though. I went from not paying Theon much attention to hating him, feeling sorry for him and quickly rooting for him, what a character and what a performance!
RIP Theon. You're a good man.
valid critiques anon - i loved all the bits you did and others. my main issues have been said 10x over but people want to boil it down to "you didn't get dark dany, your fave wasn't the savior, no jonsa scene." no. i was proud of daenerys for staying and saving jon. my fave is sansa, not jon, and not only did she pull a dagger out, she was nudging tyrion away from daenerys. queen! i also didn't expect a jonsa scene so i was just glad arya and sansa were speaking! there were lots of things 1/2
that i liked - braime side by side throughout the fight, arya hurling herself over wights, sandor coming back to himself to help her, melisandre’s parts (although where did she come from and how wasn’t she attacked?) but ep 3 was a mess. it’s the truth and people should be able to say it without being attacked or called arrogant because “so many people worked hard.” they did! i knew they worked their asses off, so i expected better. i expected the battle they promised in every interview. 2/2
Dear nonny,
Preach!
You know, I am rather generous with plot holes if I am emotionally involved, but I snapped out of the stream of the story so often during these 80 minutes! And this seriously sucks. I know they all did an effort, but so did Peter Jackson for Helm’s Deep (I just have to come back to that) and the pay off was so much greater!
I mean this does not devalidate the nice scenes we had, but I will probably go on a rewatch of Braime scenes or Theon dies, but I think I will never watch the whole episode again, just like the Wight Hunt. Because it just did not click and work for me.
Of course, I was a tad disappointed that we didn’t get DarkDany, but I was able to enjoy episodes before, even if they did not play into my expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed the “Battle on the Goldroad” last season for example, even thoug it had Dany on a winning path.
After the episode has set in, I have made my peace with the fact that we didn’t get DarkDany in this episode. I hate that to and fro for DarkDany, mostly because I want that the GA finally sees Dany for what she is (I mean I’ve waited since book 2 for readers to come around to that interpretation!), but on the other hand I know that GRRM wants to go for the Hector/Achilles angle and therefore he probably wants his readers to be divided in their loyalty. The story has to make sense from Dany’s PoV as well, and she will see herself as a saviour now.
Anyway, I am afraid I might get up hyped for the next episode again.... I try to keep my expectations low. I fully expect DarkDany, Political Jon and Jonsa, but I think the execution probably will suck. Because episode 3 did one thing for me. It completely and utterly destroyed my faith in D&D as writers, more than the Wight Hunt to be honest. The Wight Hunt had a very bad director, and I expected so much more from Miguel Sapochnik. But I guess even the best director cannot do anything if there is no or only cheesy dialogue to work with, plot holes galore, in-world stupidity etc.
I am not mad that my theories were not proven right (at least not yet). I am mad because these people are supposed to be professionals and about every 10 seconds my brain snapped me out of the story to complain (why are the people who planned this battle so stupid, why did they choose to write it this way...) Arya sneeking into the Godswood could have been a suspense wonderful footage of many scenes leading up to the final kill.
Thanks for the ask!
Hey I’m interested in hearing more about your thoughts on asoiaf. How do you find the writing wonky and things like that
I’ve already talked about it a bit on this blog before, if you wanna check out some posts about why I think ASOIAF is overrated and problematic, and why I don’t like the Daenerys plotline: x x x
But I could talk about books forever so here we go. To preface, when I say “overrated,” that doesn’t mean I dislike the series. It’s grown on me, solid 3.5-4/5. I just mean that it gets unwarranted credit and attention for doing a lot of the same things for the fantasy genre as other contemporaneous writers are doing. The hype is probably what set me up to think ASOIAF was only on the better side of good rather than AMAZINNNGNGNGNGNG like everyone says.
So, my overarching issues are:
I didn’t begin to love any characters until ASOS. I only continued reading after the first two because the show was gaining popularity and other people were reading it. While I did enjoy AGOT, I was only meh about ACOK. ASOS blew me out of the water, but AFFC lost its way and I’ve been “currently reading” ADWD for five years.
I don’t mind the amount of narrators; GRRM distinguishes between his narrators amazingly and the range of POVs makes the world seem bigger and realer. HOWEVER, I cannot fucking stand being in the heads of some abhorrent characters just because GRRM wants to make a ham-handed point about misogyny or colonization. (Some examples are Theon and whatever the fuck his uncles are named and Daenerys. I hate Theon’s and the other IB POVs, and I could live without Dany.)
I really don’t care for GRRM’s writing style. It’s so extra and repetitive. If I have to read “fingers of blood” one more time I’m gonna throw hands. Just cutting words for concision could have reduced the first book by fifty to a hundred pages.
GRRM is known for his shocking deaths but I don’t think the shock factor is what makes the story good at all. It honestly makes the books weaker at points. The first few times, the deaths made complete sense for the characters and the story, but after awhile it gets tiring. Most readers want someone to root for, not to be apathetic to all the characters because we know they’re all going to die.
Also, GRRM is a white dude dealing with issues of misogyny, racism, imperialism, etc, and he started publishing the books in the 90s, so there’s A LOT of just… absolutely fucking yikes treatment of women, queer people, POC, and other minorities in the books that I wish I could put in a garbage disposal.
Specifically (vague spoilers for all the books):
AGOT did a good job of establishing all the characters and the stakes, but the worldbuilding is so ambitious that it only starts making sense on a second read. The world itself is thoroughly built and convincing, but it’s nowhere near my favorite fantasy world because of its excessive -ism/-phobia and basic medieval Europe-ness. Plus, the pace is glacial until they all get to King’s Landing about 200 pages in. The same thing goes for ACOK. These two books didn’t do much for me. I liked the Starks and I wanted them to be back together, but tbh I don’t find the Lannisters or the Targs all that cool. They’re a bunch of incestuous assholes trying to kill each other and I don’t find that relatable or anywhere near as compelling as a mourning family trying to piece itself together during a war.
ASOS made everything better. By this book, I finally felt settled with all the characters and the world and GRRM’s style, and things were actually happening. Jaime, Arya, Sansa, Cat, and Jon’s ASOS arcs are among my favorites in the entire series. This book still has its sluggish parts, but the pace and the emotional weight made it worth it.
AFFC… hm. I understand why people like this book, but at the same time I think it’s on the same level as ACOK for me. In this book, the subtle themes and central drama between the three main families (Stark, Lannister, and Targ) disappears in favor of Dorne and Brienne subplots. The Sandsnakes (from the books) and Brienne are cool, and I understand that GRRM is trying to represent the aftermath of war with them, but it was way too over the top and unfocused compared to the page-turner stakes of ASOS and the latter halves of G and C. GRRM seems to be interested in all these new characters when the rest of us just wanna know if the Starks are ever going to see each other again, if Dany will ever get the fuck out of Meereen, if the Lannisters either finally fall or redeem themselves, etc.
What I’ve read of ADWD hasn’t impressed me much so far. Again, I can’t reiterate enough how much Dany’s plotline and point of view as a white colonizer in an Asian/African fusion setting make me uncomfortable. Aside from some of the most bizarre and offensive depictions of POC in fantasy through a white girl’s perspective, her love/sex life exclusively consists of 30+ year old men sexualizing and infantilizing her. I find that abhorrent and unnecessary. Tyrion is equally as hard to take in this book, seeing as he’s mostly throwing himself a constant pity party (he does this in every book, but this one is the worst) while meandering around Essos with characters who have just been introduced five books in. The Ironborn POVs are just unneeded, boring, and overly misogynistic because I guess GRRM is trying to make a statement or whatever. Most of the Starks–my personal favorite characters–are absent in this book, and the Lannister twins only get a handful of chapters. The only narrator I’m genuinely interested in is Jon, which is ironic because I was indifferent to him until ASOS.
TL;DR I’ve pretty much only ever been invested in the Starks but GRRM is obsessed with adding unnecessary new POVs. While he tries his best to deal with issues like sexism and racism, he ultimately fails in certain respects due to his hypersexualization of young women and exoticization of cultures of POC. He needs to regain control of the story.
I’ve been thoroughly enjoying all endgame theories on your blog. Thank you for your great takes. When I try to guess, there seems to be foreshadowing for so many different things (Sansa’s kidnapping, Sansa falling, a baby, maybe a baby switch, Tyrion fighting for both the green and black sides of Dance 2.0, Tyrion ending up on the Wall or even as a “gargoyle” because of greyscale, Bran warging a dragon) that I can’t get a read on how it will all happen. But I wonder if a poisoning will happen.
(cont.) The “For the Throne” trailer shows Jaime reacting to both Myrcella’s and Joffrey’s poisonings. In addition, in season 7, Cersei poisoned Tyene, and Jaime poisoned Olenna. In Arya’s storyline, the Sansa actress hired a Faceless man to poison the Cersei actress. Also, in the books, Sansa is accused of taking part in Joffrey’s poisoning and suspected by readers of helping to poison Robin Arryn. Dany also narrowly escapes two poisoning attempts (the wine merchant and the locusts).
(cont. 2) The third time should be a reverse. Will Cersei try to poison Sansa or has she met her poisoning quota? I don’t think Dany will die of poisoning, but will there be a reverse and she will attempt and fail to poison Sansa? Or will Cersei try to poison Dany, and Sansa will be falsely accused with consequences? Will Jaime finally be able to save someone entrusted to his protection from poisoning? Finally, people have written great metas comparing Sansa’s story to Snow White.
(cont. 3) The original Snow White also included poison. The evil queen tries to kill Snow White with three objects a corset that is too tight, a poisoned comb, and a poisoned apple. So far, Queen Cersei gave Sansa a tight-fitting dress for Sansa’s wedding to Tyrion, and the Queen of Thorns indirectly caused Sansa to get a poisoned hairnet. Is a poisoned apple next from another queen next (or perhaps poisoned apple brandy given that Sansa doesn’t like ale)? What do you think?
Hey, nonnie!
Thank you so much for your comment. I’m glad you’re enjoying my speculation. :) I absolutely agree with you on the theories front. There are so many theories that are making the rounds that it’s hard to make heads or tails of it or figure out which are likelier to happen than others.
The way I personally approach this issue is by trying to fit a theory in with the pieces of information we have or already established theories that I’m fairly certain will happen. If a theory fits neatly with that, then I start digging further. If not, I either keep it in a maybe pile or discard it all together, depending on how preposterous it sounds to me.
In regards to your poisoning theory, I think you’re really onto something and it would fit pretty well within Sansa’s story line. I’ll focus on the show in terms of foreshadowing.
As you mentioned, she was already involved in one poisoning and there’s also the foreshadowing with the actresses in Braavos.
Although I’m not sure why you would need a reversal in that case. In the first instance where Sansa is involved in the poisoning of Jofferey, she was used by Olenna and Littlefinger as an unwitting fall girl for their assassination. In the second instance, the poisoning of the Cersei actress by the Sansa actress was thwarted by Arya.
Going by that logic, the third time Sansa will go through with it and will be successful in poisoning someone.
A while back, a theory circulated in the J0nereys circles speculating that Sansa would try to poison D*ny in an attempt to make her miscarry by giving her moon tea. I swear … all of their theories end up being about b0atie. For two half-assed lines of dubious foreshadowing, this b0atie baby that will never happen has essentially taken over the internet.
Now this is, of course, part of a larger speculation on Dark Sansa who has been a no show for 2 seasons but people still keep on dreaming about it. I think season 9 will be their season.
However, coupled with the kidnapping theory, I think there’s a pretty good chance Sansa will try or succeed in poisoning someone. The likeliest candidate is Cersei, I think. This could also fit really well within the Younger More Beautiful Queen prophecy.
I’ve read a theory recently about the effects of shade of the evening, the drug that the warlocks in the House of the Undying, take. The theory suggested that if you give someone this drug they’re much easier to manipulate and insert visions or thoughts into their heads. This speculation is supported by the visions that Aeron has in the Winds of Winter sample chapter, where, after taking shade of the evening, his visions change at Euron’s suggestion.
Going by that speculation, if Sansa feels like she can’t kill Cersei, she might attempt to make her easier to control. Sansa is going to have to be pretty inventive in trying to evade Cersei’s wrath and since she’s not a fighter and she’ll be alone for quite some time, poisoning/drugs fells like a natural choice.
I don’t think she’ll end up being the one to kill Cersei because of the valonqar theory but seeing Sansa and Cersei interacting, while knowing that Sansa is slowly poisoning her with shade of the evening would be really interesting to watch and also switch the tables on the Cersei/Sansa relationship, where Sansa was always the defenseless victim of Cersei’s cruelty.
But perhaps it’s not Cersei at all but instead the Mountain or Qyburn? Cersei doesn’t have that many allies left. Theon is going to keep Euron pretty occupied, I should think so if Sansa eliminates Qyburn she’ll make Cersei much more vulnerable. Or perhaps a trial by combat will be arranged and in order to make sure zombie Mountain doesn’t win, she slips him a poison before the fight.
There are a lot of scenarios where I could see this poisoning theory being used. I like it. It’s going in my yes pile. :))))
Thanks for the ask!
I also powerwatched GoT Season 2...
I stopped pretending I was only going to have three things to say about each episode.
2x01
1. Sandor backing Sansa’s “it’s bad luck to kill someone on your birthday” play is SMOOTH. He has her back and I kind of love it????
2. BRAN WARGING! Back when this show cared about magical/fantasy elements that weren’t the dragons.
3. Ugh Theon’s idealism when he offers to go to his family for Robb stabs me right through the heart. (Also he likes calling Robb “Your Grace” A LOT and it makes me cackle and then want to go read fic.)
2x02
1. Cersei asking after Jaime while everyone else looks awkward gives me joy.
2. Gilly!!!! She’s so darling. And so is Sam. And Jon’s “Hello Gilly. WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” makes me giggle. What stellar delivery.
3. Theon returning to Pyke is so sad and the castle on Pyke looks SO COOL. (And Yarra keeping a straight face during that horse ride makes me smile just as much as Balon Greyjoy makes me furious.)
4. Bonus: Gendry telling Arya he knows she’s a girl is precious. In fact every second they are on screen are so cute it should be illegal.
5. Bonus bonus: John saw a white walker (Or was that a wight?) Pick up a baby at Craster’s in SEASON FUCKING TWO. How did they so thoroughly fuck up that arc?
2x03
1. This episode was written by Bryan Cogman and directed by Alik Sakharov; which means I was going to love it because Cogman cared a lot about the story and the books, and Sakharov did one of my favorite director commentaries I’ve ever listened to.
2. Brienne’s intro is so great. She is such SERIOUS BUSINESS. Renly genuinely smiling and being happy to have her around :....( he would have been a good king.
3. THEON’S FACE WHEN HE SAYS YOUR LAST BOY JUST LEAVE ME HERE also THAT SHOT OF THEON HIS FACE LIT BY THE BURNING LETTER AND ALL ELSE IN DARKNESS AKDHWISJHSJJSSHSJ CINEMATOGRAPHY AND DIRECTING
4. Bonus: I remember how cute Gethin and Loras’s actor were about Loras and Renly and it gives me warm fuzzies
5. Bonus bonus: Yoren giving Arya the idea that will become her list is a nice moment and A GIRL IS CLEVER telling them Gendry was the dead boy!
2x04: one of the only episodes written by a woman!
1. Ok I love Lannister soldiers playing “who is GOAT?” before Greywind attacks.
2. I’m sorry all the blood just rushed to my eyes because I saw red during the scene with Joffrey having Sansa beaten in front of EVERYONE.
3. Catelyn Stark angrily brandishing a knife at Littlefinger when he’s all “I’ve always loved yoooooouuu” is A Big Mood.
4. Davos “WHAT THE FUCK DID I JUST SEE” Seaworth, ladies, gentlemen, and honored folk....
2x05
1. Catelyn keeping her cool and being smart under pressure and keeping Brienne alive is some A++ women helping women stuff.
2. The room with all the latticework where Cersei and Tyrion talk is SO PRETTY. And Tyrion is... actually trying to do right by the city and his family. It’s sad, really.
3. I’d forgotten how much I liked Dagmer for actually helping Theon rather than just making fun of him for a lack of knowledge that isn’t his fault.
4. I remember there was some debate having Arya as Tywin’s cupbearer since it was a pretty major change to the books, but it gave us some great interactions between two super talented actors, and those scenes are... mostly(??) in character and reveal interesting things about them, so I’m on the side of “I love it.”
5. Wow, but the Fist of the First Men is beautiful. And I love Sam’s love of history and how it lets him do world building in an endearing way.
6. Brienne swearing to Catelyn literally just brought tears to my eyes.
2x06
1. Bran’s “Did you hate us the whole time?” to Theon is a moment that will have me in tears every time I hear it. Let’s just pretend I’ve flailed about every upsetting second Theon is on screen and how many awards Alfie deserves and call it a day.
2. Arya’s OH SHIT face when she hears that Littlefinger is about to come into the room... priceless.
3. Sandor Clegane is an Incredibly Useful Person.
4. I know he’s really different from the books, but Xaro Xhoan Daxos is so handsome and INTERESTING in the show, and Qarth is SO PRETTY. Like the clothes the sets... everything.
5. Probably Dyslexic Jaime is one of my favorite little touches the show added, and Tywin’s reaction to it was... very him.
6. Ygritte’s Wildling flirting is... both hilarious and adorable. Jon never knew what hit him.
2x07
1. Dany’s WHERE ARE MY DRAGONS? Iconic, and understandable given that they are three of the rarest things on earth.
2. Shae being willing to knife a girl to keep Sansa’s secret. Friendship goals. Also the following conversation between Cersei and Sansa is nuanced and breaks my heart. Anyone who says Cersei is 100% evil didn’t watch this scene carefully enough.
3. Jaime talking about squiring for Barristan Selmy and how much he loves fighting is a good way to show us that when we can’t be in his head. (Also is this the same fight he was talking about in season 1 in Robert’s office with Barristan? I think it is...)
4. Quaithe was super cool and mysterious and I wish we knew more about her, and Pyatt Pree was CREEPY AS FUCK how did I forget that he killed the 13?
5. Oh right because there’s a Jaime scene next and somehow Brienne makes “Man” the worst insult ever and she is magical.
6. Also that Cersei and Tyrion scene at the end KILLS ME. “I always hoped he’d be like Jaime...” also she voices doubts in the show WAY MORE than book!Cersei does. But... Lena and Peter make it real and complicated.
7. SO MANY VOWS. I still love everything about this. And Jaime trying to press EVERY ONE of Catelyn’s buttons is... amusing as always.
1x08
1. Wherever Robb and Talisa are walking on the way back from the Crag is SO PRETTY I just want to pitch a tent and camp there for a week.
2. Jaime falling off a horse and introducing himself to Brienne like she doesn’t know who he is WHAT AN ASSHOLE I LOVE HIM. This is the beginning of a BEAUTIFUL ROAD TRIP.... Canoe trip?
3. I want to eat a pie with sour cherries like Hot Pie is describing....
4. Bronn and Tyrion trying and failing to pronounce that historian’s name is SO FUNNY to me right now. This show used to be good at balancing little character moments and Serious Business.
5. Jacqen H’Ghar is clearly asking himself how a man got himself into this situation with this strange girl.
6. Robb and Roose Bolton talking about hunting Theon down gives me the stomach lurches.
7. Robb Stark makes ROmanTiC BuT pooR LiFE ChOIceS
2x09: it’s BLACKWATER TIME! Huzzah for ships and sea battles!
1. Cersei getting the poison from Pycelle stops my heart a bit.
2. We get to hear a bit of “The Rains of Castamere” for the first time!
3. Nearly died laughing at Varys’ “I’ve always hated the bells.” ME AND YOU AND THE WHOLE FANDOM, MY FRIEND.
4. I still LOVE THE CLEVERNESS OF TYRION’S PLAN. And the suspense... so good. “There’s only one ship...” Bronn firing the arrow and it hitting the water ALL OF IT.
5. Increasingly drunk Cersei is cruel and tragic and funny and I love her so much my heart doesn’t know what to do.
6. “Awwww pooR Sandor” is a reaction I NEVER thought I’d have about his little moment of paralysis after seeing the burning soldier but we never step in the same river twice and all that, and this time around I def had that reaction. And cheered at “fuck the King” for SANDOR’s sake.
7. I’ve said this before but PODRICK PAYNE FOR SQUIRE OF THE CENTURY
8. oh hai Renly’s ghost and dad Lannister (Daddister?)
2x10: Valar Morghulis, BITCHES
1. Tywin’s horse shitting just outside the throne room because Tywin needed to ride it in for some reason is the line of Lannister Extra (tm) that makes me love this awful family.
2. Show Margaery Tyrell is a devious Player of the Game, and I am enjoying that this time around. (Also I see shades of Anne Boleyn in the Tudors, and that was a performance I enjoyed.)
3. Jaime WATCHES Brienne all the time, like he’s trying to figure her out, and then making up that story on a DIME, and the two of them trying to sell it... FRENEMY GOALS.
4. If people watch the scene with Theon and Maester Luwin and think Theon deserved what he got, they are dumb. My poor identity crisis in kraken from... (Also thank you subtitles for telling me WEX IS THERE? I love him in the books but I’m sure they just used that name without attaching it to someone.)
5. So in the books the House of the Undying was SO CREEPY I had to stop reading because it was too late at night and I was too freaked out and I WAS IN MY 30S! So the way they did it here was just so underwhelming. Yet more proof that the producers didn’t buy into or value the parts of the story that were too “fantasy.” Did Pyatt Pree just... not know dragons breathed fire? Or did he thing they were too little? Idk that seemed a stupid plan he had.
6. I’m fine just crying over Maester Luwin like I didn’t know he died.
7. In the final episode, if we get a shot of the throne room in the red keep looking like Dany’s vision... but with ash instead of snow... at least it’ll be a bit of continuity.
8. That third horn blast still gave me chills on a warm day. Well done, season 2.
