Lara Croft from the Tomb Raider series

She's smart, she's strong, she's witty, and she's hot. What else is there? I loved the Tomb Raider games as a kid. I used to make her do flips and swan dives and play around with her outfits (most relevant in Anniversary and Legend). She was so so cool. I'm not as big a fan of the reboot Lara, other than they made her queer, but :)

Anna the Huntress from Dead by Daylight

My wife. The game lore did her kinda dirty, but that's what headcanon is for. She's a big strong tall Russian lady who lives in the woods and hunts people. She kidnaps little girls from villages so she can take care of them in her little cabin and give them toys. She kills nazis. She sings. I'm so, so in love with her.

Ellen Ripley from the Alien series

Sigourney Weaver in general... but Ripley in particular. Brave, adaptable, intelligent. A girlboss if there ever was one. She's one of my favorite Final Girls (topped only by Nancy from the original Nightmare on Elm Street). Everything Ripley ever says is 100% correct and for some reason nobody wants to listen to her.

Leia Organa from Star Wars

A princess. A general. A rebel leader. And a badass bitch. Leia was one of the earliest examples of a good, strong-willed and fearless female character I had as a kid. Even if she needs rescue from time to time, she does plenty of rescuing others herself. She takes no guff from scoundrels like Han Solo or fascists like Grand Moff Tarkin. Her parents would be so, so proud of her.

Nani Pelekai from Lilo and Stitch

The relationship between Nani and her little sister Lilo reminded me a lot of my mom and me. And it takes a lot to raise a little kid on your own (especially one that is a little special needs like me and Lilo both were), working a crappy job, having no time for a social life, and having to fight against Child Protective Services. Being poor + indigenous + a broken family fucking sucks. But Nani held it together, just like my mom did. I can't forget a character like that.

addams family headcanons

- we’ve all seen the headcanon that gomez is allergic to roses and that’s why morticia cuts their petals off?? yeah??? it extends to wednesday, she’s allergic to them too, enid brings her thorns or just simply black viola’s

-why that instead of black dahlias? they’re wednesday’s favorite in the show? trauma. thornhill gifted them to her, thornhill tried to kill her and the people she loves. she’s not open about it, she likes to seem like she’s not effected, but enid always knows.

-werewolves, canines i might add, cannot consume chocolate. this includes enid. she hates it. she absolutely hates it.

-wednesday goes back for the snood

-enid has angsty poems and short stories in her notes app, they are directed towards her mother

-the lesbian flag sweater enid owns was a gift from yoko, when enid realized her sexuality she gave the vampire girl an earful and asked “why didn’t you tell me!??”

-enid is an avid clothes thief, she has a few tank tops and flannels from ajax, shorts and jeans and blouses from yoko and divina, a sweater or two from eugene, a dress from bianca, and she wears wednesday’s clothing as she pleases (at this point they share wednesday’s closet)

-enid makes wednesday jewelry out of animal bones

-wednesday makes enid jewelry too, she breaks into the metal shop classroom to do it (she also makes them weapons)

-after enid wolfs out for the first time her hair starts growing super fast, it’s pretty hard to keep up with her roots but wednesday always helps her blend them in

- enid thinks it’s sad that wednesday doesn’t have any stuffed animals, on a trip to jericho with her girls she sees a stuffed scorpion and knows that it was meant to be

-the stuffed scorpion has a permanent spot on wednesday’s bed, and sometimes in wednesday’s bag when she knows her day will be tedious (she also has a picture of enid in her bag that she looks at when she feels down)

-wednesday doesn’t mind showing affection, enid and their friends assumed that she would, but after the two started dating she nearly became the more affectionate one (enid cannot get enough of it), this still does not extend to their friends and family, enid is the only one allowed to touch her

-enid learns spanish to flirt with wednesday, it goes much better than expected (and she’s really good at learning other languages, who would have thought?)

-they also talk shit (gossip) about people in other languages, enid thinks it is hilarious and wednesday loves seeing an evil side to her girlfriend

-when enid is having a hard day wednesday will play the cello for her, she has learned way too many pop songs just to make the other girl happy. enid will make a pallet of blankets out on their balcony and watch wednesday play for hours

-they roughhouse often, at this point nevermore students are used to seeing knifes flying straight for enid sinclair’s throat, enid catches them easily with a scary ass smile and then launches them back full force

This is non-exhustive lsit so feel free to add more.

Also this list will include non-book media, because as far as I'm concerned things like plays and tv shows have to have a (physical) script at some point and you know what a script is? A story written out on bunch of pages tied together in book-like fashion. Check-mate baby.

Carmilla. This one is self explanatory. A hot lesbian villianess flirts and sort of seduces naive fair haired maiden. Somehow both the stuff of Chase's dreams (bcs vampires yay) and his worst nightmares (bcs he has to hang around Buddy, and also doubful consent). I just wanna watch these two dance around the plot trying to figure out how to make it work onsidering their relationship over all.

Swan lake. Idk I just think aesthetic would be pretty. Also I just imagine Chase only watched the Barbie movie version so he has no clue what he's in for. He's dissapointed though there's no unicorn.

Any isekai manhwa. I just wanna see how Chase's profesional story-hopping works within the context traditional isekai. Like is he just isekaining into the body of the od Heroine or is he also hijacking the mind of the isekaied real heroine?

She-ra and the Princesses of Power. Chase gets a cool sword, Buddy gets to be a cat (provided he's not going to take on the role of the Shadow Weaver but let's just assume that's not the case). also they are obligated to flirt again. Great!

Thorn of Court and Roses. Especially after Buddy and Chase grow closer. Feyre flips off all the male love interests and goes off to make out with Amarantha which incidentally solves her riddle breaking the curse (yeah I know Amarantha's very evil, but also I never cared for those books and I just thought it would be funny.)

lowkey Coraline but only with Chase. Yes it will be dark and unsettling, but I still think it would be interesting to see Chase dealing with Other Mother given his own baggage.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Chase and Buffy are just too much alike for this not to be fun. Blonde cheerleader-sort-of types that are willing to go anything for those they love and are sassy to boot (and crushing on vampires as if it's their job). Also depending on what season this would be Buddy could be either Cordelia, Drusilla, Gloria or Anya(? or Willow technically in one specific season) but to be honest I would really like to see him as either Gloria or Drusilla (RIP Spike, torn between these two women only for them to start making out).

Howl's Moving Castle - again just for Chase and Deacon maybe. I wanna see Chase inerract with book Howl.

My Lady Jane. Adding this one purely bcs I wanna know if Guildford Dudley would hate Deacon the same way all the other horses in stories do.

Okay this one is tricky but if they figured out a way to get into digital world, one of those "I was sold to One Direction/Justin Bieber is my new roomate/boss" self-insert fanfics. Purely for Chase as a treat/threat

JuleRose July: Romance Headcanons

Canon (in the future): When Marek was younger, he liked to refer to Juleka as "Tall Mom" and Rose as "Small Mom".

Class of Heroes: JuleBeast and Roselle often dance in the ballroom and will switch between who's wearing the dress and who's wearing the suit.

Class of Villains: QRC loves to hide in Juleficent's robe so that she can surprise the other heroes and her fiendish friends. Also, they love to refer to eachother as "my queen".

Monstrous AU: Draculeka loves to nom on SkeleRose's neck since she has no blood.

Creepsters: They love doing mask kisses (basically softly bumping their masked heads together) and killing together.

Ghoul Squad: Rose Frankenteen makes all sorts of cute little trinkets showcasing her love for Jubella, and in return, the vampire loves bridal carrying her during battles.

MiracLympus: Juletemis is the only one able to see AphroRose's true form. Also, she calls Jules "Cutepid" due to her bow and arrow.

WereMiraculous: As a duo of tracker and hunter, they are completely in sync with one another on hunts, not even needing words to signal a scent or a chance to kill.

Animal AU: Piggy Rose loves being nuzzled by JuleClaw. She also often hops onto her back and goes on rides.

DC AU: Feline Shadow always used to go into Rose's shop and give her precious plants and gifts, even before she became Thorne. In turn, Rose was the only one besides her family who knew her secret identity and she helped out her beloved kitty queen with new spots to rob.

Marvel AU: The Cloak of Levitation loves wrapping around Miss Marvelous as a sign of Doctor Odd's adoration of her.

Phantoms of Paris: Juleka makes illusions that enchant Rose and in return, Rose uses her powers to give Juleka emotions of bliss.

Batraculous: Stealth Bat is always giving Love Bat stealth hugs.

Barbie AU: Jules and Rose received engagement rings with gems from the diamond castle as gifts from Mindy.

Actor AU: Juleka and Rose are constantly kissing at interviews and tours to show that they're a lesbian couple, and that Zagtoon is to scared to admit it.

Land Before Time AU: The two dinos have special roars and chirps they created just for eachother. This way, they can always identify the other's voice in times of crisis.

Caveman AU: As the inventor of hair dye, Juleka's first dye she made after one for herself was for Rose.

Akuma AU: Reflekta likes to transform people into flowers that can still scream for her girlfriend.

Shadyverse: Juleka will often carve Rose's name into people's prized possessions, and even into their skin.

Jane Austin didn't know she was Jane Austin / writing encouragement

Cozy fantasy/romance author Lidiya Foxglove has a youtube video called "How to write a classic bestselling novel that everyone will read in 200 years," that's very interesting and inspiring. Here are some parts that really struck me, and that I think other creators will resonate with:

…Pride and Prejudice has been one of the most enduring novels of our time. It's very impressive to me that all of Jane Austin's novels are still widely read, and I'm quite sure that Jane did not write them thinking, “I bet people are still going to be reading my books in 200 years.” And then she died without ever knowing that she was Jane Austin, which I think about constantly … She sold some books, some of them sold decently well. A few prominent people read them, which I'm sure must have pleased her very much at the time. And then she died and then over the course of ages she became Jane Austin. … The point that I want to make … is that I think it's just really important to write the books that call to you. Maybe even just the books that you need to write to make money. I think it's really important to write the books that call to you, even if they feel a little self-indulgent or silly at times. If they don't feel like they're necessarily what you're capable of, but they're what you want to write because you don't really know where a powerful theme or a character that's going to resonate with people will emerge, and you also don't know where culture is going in the future, it could be that people of the future appreciate different things than we appreciate now, and that something that's only minorly successful now is going to be huge in the future.

Perhaps you really love literary fiction and you got a bachelor in English, and you got an MFA, and you genuinely love classic literature, and you love, like, really beautiful literary prose, but the work that you're working on is like a cute little romance about lesbians running an adoption agency for baby dragons. Something in your head is like, “That is what I'm capable of. That sounds kind of silly, but it's just something that I write because it's fun.”

I'm here to give you permission to write whatever calls to you, whether it is yet another broody vampire, or a horror novel that just reminds you of books you read under the covers when you were 12. Even if you want to write a literary novel about a sad man suffering, yeah, you know, if that's what calls to you, there's always room for another one. Don't feel bad about writing something that just feels like you, and don't get too in your head about whether it is a great work or not. If you're going to devote some of your time, your one precious life, to writing, then I think the last thing we should be worrying about is whether it's important or whether it will be a classic or a bestseller, much less both, which as we've established is extremely rare.

You have no idea what will resonate with people 50 or 100 years from now and you don't know what will resonate with people now. It might be that you die not knowing that you were Jane Austin, but aren't we so glad that Jane Austin just was Jane Austin without knowing she was Jane Austin?

And the other point I want to make is if you need to write something for money, as I have done, it doesn't mean that that book won't mean something to people as well. You really have no clue how long a book will last or what kind of long term relevance or popularity it will have, or whether it will just like hit someone a certain way at a certain time in their life. There are entire categories of creations like pulp science fiction or superhero comics that were kind of treated as throwaway amusements when they first came out, and now have a much more elevated place in our culture. So it's also possible that a Court of Thorns and Roses will in fact be more popular in 50 years and that people will be getting their Sarah J Maas books graded and encased in plastic. Like, I don't know. They are also books that never become classics in a broad sense but have a small group of people who love them, or there's books that really influence someone when they came out so, they might not have been known themselves, but some other great artist would never have been what they were without that work.

I think all of these things are important and that art is just a big web and conversation and that you can drive yourself crazy trying to decide where you fit into it. So write what you love, write what you need to write to be able to keep on writing, and don't worry about tests of time or bestseller lists.

mid-year book freakout

number of books you’ve read so far: 57, i set my reading goal for 25 this year hoping it would push me to take my time with each book & be more reflective but then the unemployment hit and i got a little manic

best book you’ve read so far in 2024: poor deer by claire oshetsky is probably my sentimental fav so far! objectively the best were the spear cuts through water by simon jimenez and kindred by octavia butler both of which completely blew me away.

best sequel you’ve read so far in 2024: i very rarely read sequels, i think the only series i’ve read this year are dungeon meshi and beastars. i did read the first installments of dune, interview with the vampire (reread…shut up lmao) and the tainted cup by robert jackson bennett and will probably continue with all three!

new release you haven’t read yet but want to: i’ve had sociopath: a memoir by patrick gagne on hold at the library for months now, so that one comes to mind lol also really interested in picking up craft: stories i wrote for the devil by amanda lima, the haar by david sodergren, little rot by akwaeke emezi and private rites by julia armfield!

most anticipated release for the second half of the year: excited for the new charlotte mcconaghy, wild dark shore! honestly after migrations i’d pay to read her grocery list. also looking forward to hum by helen phillips (i loved the need, also by her!)

biggest surprise: this may just be recency bias but i picked up a good happy girl by marissa higgins not expecting to feel too strongly about it and wow, i felt seen (derogatory) lmao strongly recommend to all lesbians with dad and/or grandma trauma and a penchant for emotional self-sabotage ✌️

favorite new author (debut or new to you): so many! for a few not mentioned above: adora nworah, layla martínez, jennifer marie thorn, neil sharpson and andrew joseph white!

newest fictional crush: oh absolutely catherine from a good happy girl lol the second coming of lydia tár. etain larkin from knock knock, open wide is also up there (final girl turned shitty bitter traumatized mother? obsessed obsessed obsessed with her)

books that made you cry: i’m a robot, i don’t cry over media, i’m sorry! ducks: two years in the oil sands by kate beaton did make me a little misty.

most beautiful books you’ve bought so far this year (or received): working at the public library (and also having no money <\3) has sadly cured me of my compulsive book-buying habit ): i did buy a few physical volumes of dungeon meshi and all of them are gorgeous.

books that made you happy: again, dungeon meshi! & i had a really great time with the tainted cup by robert jackson bennett (fantasy + page-turning mystery with the most endearing cast of characters!) also found come and get it by kiley reid to be oddly delightful despite dealing with some pretty heavy topics.

Its got a very dark academia vibe, vampires, an aroace character, a very addictive writing style, more queer characters (gays and nb and lesbians its great all around), horror, supernatural creatures (aside from the vampires LMAO), found family andddd a decent amount of religious imagery.

Genuinely so good I cannot recommend it enough! There are a fair share of content warnings for it I can't list them all off the top of my head idk DM me if you're seeing this and actually care I'll get back to you with them <3

🎸🎤 HEX GIRL HEADCANONS 🎤🎸

Before forming a band together, each member had a miniature career of their own. Luna was a pretty popular online figure for her performances at bars and restaurants, Dusk went viral a few times from her rave shows, and Thorn had a history of starring in plays and talent shows all her life. They eventually found each other online and began talking, and after Thorn and Dusk immigrated to the U.S., they formed a band.

Although they live in America, Luna is the only one who was born there. She's Creole and was raised in New Orleans, Thorn is French-Candian and from Ontario, and Dusk is Japanese and from Kyoto. Due to where they grew up, they all speak different languages as well. Luna is fluent in Spanish and French, Thorn was raised speaking French just as much as English and knows a bit of Italian, and Dusk's first language is Japanese and she's fluent in JSL. They all began learning ASL after forming a band since Dusk is deaf in one ear and hard-of-hearing in her other.

Thorn's real name is Sally McKnight, Luna's is Selene Moon, and Dusk's is Twilight Yami. Thorn picked her name due to her love of roses, whereas Luna and Dusk simply picked names that have the same meaning as their own.

Due to her hearing loss, Dusk doesn't wear shoes when practicing or performing. When coming up with songs, Thorn doesn't wear shoes either since she claims it helps her feel closer to the music. Luna sometimes doesn't and says it's for the same reason but it's actually just because her boots hurt her feet after a while.

They each base their personas after different horror monster icons. Thorn's is Dracula, Luna's is the werewolf, and Dusk is inspired by both Frankenstein monsters. They also have very different gothic styles; Thorn being more of a romantic vampire goth with some witchy accents, whereas Luna is a trad and corp goth with lots of glam, and Dusk being more in the visual kei and metalhead scene with some cyber and bubble goth inspiration.

Thorn is known for being a bit of a bachelorette and dates anyone ranging from a trucker to a theater kid who thinks he's a vampire. Luna and Dusk, however, are in a relationship that they keep private from fans. Luna is a lesbian, Dusk is bisexual, and Thorn doesn't feel the need to label her sexuality.

Their fans often get into heated arguments over the girls' heights since Dusk is typically shoeless and the other wears heels. Thorn typically looks pretty tall since she's in the front and wears high heels, with Luna looking about the same in her boots behind her keyboard, whereas Dusk looks the shortest while barefoot and sitting down to play the drums; but the truth is Thorn is only about 5'4, Dusk is 5'8, and Luna is just over 5'10.

Their fans have nicknames for them based off of different creatures, with Thorn being called a succubus due to her seductive voice and dancing, Dusk being compared to a banshee since most of her back-up vocals are screams and her unhinged drumming, and Luna being recognized for her werewolf persona due to long nails, canine fangs, and loud howl-like laughter.

Rather than visiting a salon, they have nights every few weeks were they touch up their hair. Dusk is albino with naturally platinum hair which makes it so she she has to redye her hair every so often, whereas Luna and Thorn have to actually go through the process of bleaching their hair. Dusk typically dyes her hair a darker blonde or adds different shades of green streaks, Luna switches between dark red and blonde every so often, and Thorn either dyes her naturally brown hair black or bleaches it to make it a bright red — sometimes a combination of both.

They're all university students who avoid actually attending classes by taking online courses. Thorn is majoring in envoirmental science with a business minor, Dusk is a literature major studying philosophy, and Luna is in the process of graduating art school.

Thorn is most inspired by bands like She Wants Revenge and London After Midnight, whereas Dusk takes more after Malice Mizer and Bikini Kill, and Luna is one of the biggest fans of The Cure and the Bauhaus.

They regularly go on adventures together to places that are regarded as haunted or cursed. While on tour in different countries, they make it a habit to try and visit any attractions they haven't seen yet. Thorn particular likes haunted castles and cemeteries, Dusk is interested in asylums and prisons, and Luna is obsessed with any place that has a tragic backstory.

While Thorn is relatively good friends with Daphane due to their shared love of fashion and past romantic interests in Velma, and Dusk enjoys terrifying Shaggy and Scooby, Luna and Fred are actually able to have normal conversations

They love getting together with the Mystery Gang when possible. When she's not flirting with Velma, Thorn spends her time with Daphne talking about fashion and gossiping about their past experiences with stupid boys. Luna is also pretty good friends with Fred and they could have conversations for hours about random niche interests. Dusk and Velma have a shared passion for gothic literature and Velma also enjoys watching Dusk terrify Shaggy and Scooby when she's bored.
