Regarding their masculinity, Biker initially had been incredibly dysphoric about their physique and how others saw them, involving poor mood, depressive episodes, wearing baggy clothes. Only after realising they were nonbinary did they find enjoyment in their masculinity and how it was presented, dressing in clothes that showed themself off. It was a change in framing: they're nonbinary and that gives them the freedom to delve into masculinity without the initial societal pressure to conform to a certain Kind of masculinity as someone assigned male at birth. Gender presentation on their terms, effectively. I don't know if this sounds contradictory to someone outside that experience, but it's a revelation I also experienced w/femininity.

They're half-Italian on their mother's side, and have thick, dark hair. Biker had had a couple sessions of lazer hair removal for their beard and body hair, but then the apocalypse hit. So while their hair is quite sparse relative to others, it still grows in. Biker is willing to shave with just about anything, so long as it gets the hair Off. They maintain a buzzcut for aesthetics, but also find their dysphoria goes bonkers when their hair starts to grow out. Will sometimes maintain a trimmed happy trail for the look.

Biker's got insane, prey animal anxiety. The kind that makes them aggressive and vitriolic, instead of fawning/freezing. Hit first before the threat can hit you, kind of deal. It can also make them incredibly verbally aggressive at times, as well. They're terrified of dying, and typically would do anything if it meant, at the end of the day, they survived. But then the get taken captive by a fundie, cannibal cult ingame and interrogated by their leader. Instead of giving up all they know in exchange for not being harmed, Biker's fear of death is overruled by their fear of losing the agency they were only granted post-apocalypse. Biker as a person did not exist until after the world ended, and they'll be damned if they lose that freedom again. So they lied, and fought, and suffered grievous wounds for it. They're immensely frustrated with themself, over it. But they're still here, at the end of the day. Even if Eve, the leader, left her mark in the place of burns spanning a concerning percentage of their body.

Biker used to privately ID as a gay man, until realising they very much loved women as well, but it was the clash of being loved As a man that repulsed them away from pursuing meaningful relationships with women and femmes. When they started ID-ing as nonbinary, they found attraction to women (and acting on it) much easier. Their relationship between their gender and their attraction to men is a different story and a little more dysfunctional, but Biker chases pleasure when they can, and things like questionable sex isn't out of the picture for them, before and after the world ended.

Kink and its subgroups was also a safe space for Biker (outside of gyms and places where they could admire masculinity), in exploring their sexuality and gender. They mostly occupied leather and bondage circles, but experimented in dom/sub spaces and impact play. They also consider all sex with them to be gay sex. So watch out 'it doesn't count because xyz'. Fun fact but there is so so so much motorcycle leather kink stuff on pinterest. I don't want it taken down at ALL it's just so funny to me to see those images fly under the radar like that.

Anyway. I hate them and they SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and yet. they remain in my head 24/7 and my dm is a cruel evil cruel evil storyteller who also wants Biker in a blender <3 mwah, she is also immensely talented and has facilitated this fixation and development of Biker into this character

I think Leo Bardonaro is an anesthesiologist.

One, because an anesthesiologist's job is to take the 10 or 15 minutes max they have with a patient and essentially convince them to put their entire life in their hands. Other doctors and surgeons typically get a significantly longer chunk of time to interact with the patient and answer their questions, but at the end of the day, it is the anesthesiologist who will be keeping the patient alive, stable, and safe while the procedure is going on. For better or worse, Leo has the kind of relaxed, companionable personality that would not only be able to leave a patient laughing, but also to feel entirely at ease—he's confident, he's collected, and if he's not worried about this, why should they be?

Two, because I think he would've had way too much fun making jokes about laughing gas.

Knife fights are cool in movies, so let's discuss two of my favorite injuries that can result: 1) long thoracic nerve injury and 2) intercostal artery injury.

The long thoracic nerve supplies the serratus anterior muscle on the lateral thorax and runs on top of it (which makes it vulnerable). It comes from under your clavical and runs down towards your floating ribs. If this is cut, it will paralyze the serratus anterior. This muscle helps keep your shoulder blade (scapula) flush to your back. If it is paralyzed, the scapula will come away from the back (called winging).

The intercostal arteries run along the underside of each rib. These can be lacerated by a blade or even from blunt trauma. As with any artery, cutting leads to bleeding out really quickly. There are actually two arteries for each intercostal space (the space between the ribs that has mucles in it), the posterior and anterior arteries.

I see in media a lot that people will take a slash to the ribs or a light stab to the chest, and they're fine because the heart and lungs are fine, right? Wrong. Your thoracic area has a lot more than just the internal organs! So just keep that it mind when you get into your next knife fight :))

Dropping some Charles lore that I cannot work into any of my fic because the main problem is him and his parents not Talking to Each other:

So we know there’s a Distance between them. And we know even by the time Charles is around 30 he can only refer to what happened to Timmy as ‘the accident.’ They have never told him otherwise. We know Charles’ response to genuinely being harmed (not just his whining) is to be silent. I wonder where that comes from!

I think Timmy must’ve had a heart defect, I wouldn’t expect them at the time to recognize exactly What, but they knew at the very least it wasn’t an Accident.

Honoria’s stutter probably came as the result of a childhood streptococcus infection, which was the common cause around the time she was growing up. Charles had two sickly little siblings depending on him and no answers coming from his parents, no doctors to be seen visiting the house because it might Scare the Children. Well, too late for that.

We know Charles’ dad is not a doctor. I think this is a path Charles pursues on his own (even though he’s pushed toward Harvard I still think he set out to go to medical school.) He wanted answers. Generally we know he wants to understand how things feel and what is happening. He develops this Forbidden special interest in death when he’s Way too young (see also, his butterfly collection) but they don’t want to talk about it so it just Develops. I think his parents resent doctors almost implicitly. A doctor couldn’t do anything for Little Timothy except say ‘this is incurable’ and ‘here’s how to make your son comfortable’ which are horrible things to have to hear as a parent. Even treating Honoria’s infection does not return her speech to the way it was developing prior to her falling ill. What good is a doctor, anyway? And there we have the distance that stays between Charles and his parents for the rest of his life.

They’re content to brag about their son at parties etc, he’s the Head of a Department at the hospital. Isn’t that nice for him. And Charles’ obsession with understanding death so he can prevent it. Except he can’t always prevent it. And the cycle continues.

(Naturally I thought he hadn’t suffered enough in the narrative and the heart defect would be something he’d pass on to a child. Then he finally has a reason to confront his parents about it, too.)
