You know something genuinely difficult to write? When characters refuse to accept help, when they cannot see that others do not find their actions as reprehensible as they themselves do. I'm struggling and utterly failing to write a scene in my head - in which Emily goes to comfort Vaniah through his nightmares, and he reaches out and hangs on to her. Emily - knowing the whole time she could free herself easily - chooses to stay with him holding his hand for the rest of the night. And when he wakes Vaniah is unbearably horrified by what he has done though unwittingly. There's a lot more to it, but Emily is basically unable to convince him that it was her choice, and she knew the entire time that she could free herself: because he reacts so strongly to his perception of what he did that he cannot think of how it is from her perspective. And I'm writing it - probably the whole thing - from third person limited, Emily's POV. It's just difficult.

And also fascinating to try and see it from his perspective and from hers, and how warped his is. He reacts so strongly that he can hardly articulate what he's even feeling, and just. That's a challenge to write.

Some scenes I may write from both of their perspectives, but probably ideally end up solely from hers.

I should write the prologue sometime.

it’s giving the vibes of the wife/mom who has constant baby fever and keeps wanting another kid, and the husband/dad who just wants a nap and a vacation lol

sorry idk but the way the world is so fast and the people in it still want it to be faster is sooo annoying to me. people groaning while standing in line for 3 minutes people being mad the train ride is gonna take 2 hours people complaining that the bus is a few minutes late people being angry that construction work is taking months even though it used to take decades. don't you see the world is already so so so fast in every single aspect can't you understand that being mad will do nothing and just make your mood worse. enjoy the moments of stillness you're given. just stand in line and look at the people around you. sit on the train and watch the scenery. you'll get there.

Ya Girl Went to the Emmys

I had a fun time, it was nice to meet cool people and shake their hands and serve a mother slay, etc - AND it was very cool that my cousin Will won for Slow Horses, so proud - BUT

as fun as it was, I know when the chips are down none of the people I met last night (except Dave) are gonna be there for me. They don't know me, even the ones who recognised me and said they follow my work, and that's okay! The people who are really gonna be there for me are my audience. Some of you have been watching since the bookshelf days and even earlier. Now I'm on the red carpet at the Emmys and that's cool, but I know who put me here. You. Especially you, tumblr fanbase. (Best fanbase.)

So here's to many more glitzy events and slay fits, but I hope I always remember where I started and who got me where I am today
