So... this is the only picture I took at wheelthrowing today, because my hands were a muddy mess afterwards and I forgot after washing up 🤣

It was pretty fun, and interesting to see the process! I'd like to do more of it at some point, but I can't imagine my back wouldn't hate me from all the hunching over?? I'm definitely impressed by people who do this a lot.

It was extremely funny watching some people's clay blobs fly off the platter, though. You have to be careful with things that spin that fast!

I definitely see what you’re getting at, but the Iliad is a fictional story… there’s no substantive evidence that ancient Greeks actually performed human sacrifice irl, they just have really fucked up mythology. Like Hector wasn’t ACTUALLY dragged behind a chariot, his shredded body regenerated just as the relief of death was in sight to satisfy Achilles’ bloodthirsty rage either. Also, the narrative point of the Iliad is that it’s on the whole a fucked up situation. You aren’t meant to “support” it, you’re meant to recognize the violence and devastating loss that afflicts all parties as a consequence of war

white historians will learn about the ancient greeks practicing human sacrifice and agamemnon sacrificing his own daughter iphigenia to please the gods in the iliad and go 'oh how tragic!' but still think the culture and people have value, and then hear about the aztecs engaging in the exact same thing and go 'those are savage cruel subhumans whose culture us foreign and mysterious and scary' and erase mesoamerican societies from human history/ entirely ignore them as though they have no value, like at least keep your supposed ethical stances consistent
