No, no, no — it’s not admiration!

He’s simply fulfilling his sacred duties as a loyal retainer to Lord Malleus, of course. That’s all. Absolutely nothing more (or so he tells himself). But the truth?

He’s the most obvious, reluctant secret admirer in all of NRC.

The Subtle Gestures

Sebek’s protective instincts know no bounds. You’ll find your things;

mysteriously fixed

books arranged in perfect

your chair pulled out just slightly before you sit down

a misplaced item suddenly appearing exactly where it should be

Ask about it, and he’ll deny everything with a flushed face and a loud;

“HMPH! I HAVE FAR MORE IMPORTANT MATTERS TO ATTEND TO!”

But the careful way your favorite pen is always perfectly set at your desk says otherwise.

The Heroic Entrance

Danger? Mishap? Minor inconvenience?

No problem. Sebek is always there, just happening to pass by at the exact right moment.

“FEAR NOT! I HAPPENED TO BE IN THE AREA!”

he’ll bellow, leaping into action with unnecessary dramatics.

In reality?

He’s been watching over you (lurking awkwardly behind pillars)

or pretending to examine a nearby wall

ready to swoop in if needed.

Subtlety is not his strong suit.

The Gifts

Sebek’s gifts are nothing short of gallantly old-fashioned though he’ll insist they are “practical necessities” and not gifts.

A perfectly pressed handkerchief left neatly on your desk.

A finely sharpened quill with a ribbon in your favorite color.

A rare book of fae poetry (which might, if you look closely, have careful annotations about love and devotion — but those are irrelevant! Entirely irrelevant!)

The Letters

Ah, the letters.

At first, they’re curt and cautionary:

"You should exercise greater awareness of your surroundings. Carelessness is unbecoming."

Over time, they shift, almost against his will, into reluctant praise:

"Your resolve is… satisfactory, I suppose. Do not let it falter."

And finally, into full, aching sincerity:

"You are the dawn to my dusk, the steady flame that drives back my storms. Yet... this shall remain unsaid."

(And he definitely didn’t stay up all night agonizing over every word. Nope. Not at all.)

Confrontation

It happens by accident.

A letter, unsent and raw, falls from his satchel.

You pick it up — and it’s overwhelming. The pure sincerity of it, the storm of affection so clumsily yet earnestly captured in ink.

When you confront him, Sebek’s face turns a shade of red even Malleus would comment on.

He sputters, shouting:

“THIS — THIS ISN’T FOR YOUR EYES —!”

“Then who was it for, Sebek?”

“I — THAT IS — NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS, HUMAN!”

He’s mortified, practically vibrating with embarrassed fury. (It’s adorable~)

Tease

If you tease him about it — gently or mischievously — Sebek will puff up like an indignant cat.

He’ll shout about your "INDECOROUS BEHAVIOR" and "LACK OF RESPECT!" but deep down? He’s hopelessly, irretrievably flustered.

The next morning, you’ll find another letter on your desk.

This time, it’s signed.

He definitely meant to do that.

Conclusion

Sebek is the kind of secret admirer who would write epic poetry about you, hide it behind layers of duty and honor, and then die inside the moment you glimpse even one line. And yet, despite all his bluster and dramatics, his affection is pure, genuine, and deeply, deeply loyal.

He just… needs a little help admitting it.

watches the way you interact with all the other boys to determine if he really wants to go for it or not

asks you to stay after practice one day and you genuinely think you’re about to get fired but he just walks out of the room and then back in with flowers and a pretty flush to his face

hi!!! i just want to ask how to engage with books better and not just finish them for the sake of finishing the said books? idk if im making sense but im struggling a lot with this. im sorry if this might seem a stupid question to ask

not stupid! i think many people have this issue, especially in an age where it feels like a lot of ~readers~ on social media complete books just for the sake of hitting a reading goal or keeping up with trends, rather than actually because they like what they read.

my first suggestion, tbh, is to limit your time on/get off completely booktok/tube/stagram/etc., not because they'll inherently ruin your reading life, but bc i think for a lot of people, they inspire a competitiveness that needs to be unlearned in order to embrace actual pleasure/leisure reading, rather than gamified competitive reading. try getting off goodreads/storygraph if it's still an issue for you - you can always get an old fashioned paper journal if you want to track what you read and what you think of each book. i truly think one of the biggest harms that book-related social media has done is turned reading into a job for people who want to read for fun. it's hard to unlearn!

next, i recommend taking a look at some of the close reading and annotation strategies I talk about here. i don't always read for school-purposes - actually, the vast majority of books I read are just for fun! but using these strategies on instinct has helped me enjoy my fun books more, too. if it helps inspire you, get some nice highlighters, pencils, post it notes, etc. your books don't need to be pristine if you like to annotate and it helps. books are your friends, and it's okay to play with them!!

reading can be a group effort, and one that pays off over time! check out book clubs/discussion boards about what you're reading online. some will have chapter-by-chapter schedules to encourage you not to rush. and what's the point of rushing, anyway? - if it's not for an assignment, there's no reason to sprint through a book before you get the chance to fully digest it. your other books will still be there when you finish. plus, the more you read closely and actually process what you've read, the faster you'll be able to go - practice makes better. so keep in mind that if you start out taking a long time to read and understand a book, a year, two years, etc. of doing so consistently will result in more efficient reading skills. after all, think about how long it took you to read an easy book in, like, 1st grade vs. now. your mind is still flexible and you can still improve!

lastly, don't be afraid of re-reading, checking wikipedia, asking questions, and looking words up. needing help is not something that's for "bad" readers. it's for all readers - we all need to define a new word or double check we understood a chapter sometimes. sure, there can be times where just 'going with' an unfamiliar concept can be really helpful, but at other times, our experiences can be enriched by pausing, taking notes, asking questions, and chewing on ideas before continuing.

oh, and an addendum: if it's for pleasure reading, READ THINGS YOU ACTUALLY LIKE. not what's trendy or popular. not what your friends are reading. not what's on someone's best-of list. read about topics you're interesting, and read authors whose reading styles you vibe with. there are some cases where reading something you're not comfortable with is important, but this moment - when you're still practicing pleasure-reading and slowing down - really isn't one of them. you have plenty of time to branch out. as an exercise, try finding ten books by authors you like and/or with themes you enjoy, and seeing how you feel after finishing those. then, after that's done, reassess your taste, your comprehension, and, most importantly, your enjoyment. you get the rest of your life to become a more astute reader and to partake in the joy of books. go at your own pace and release the need to read the same things, or as quickly as everyone else - especially influencers.

Why this is what i think is actually going on:  

This is NOT Mileven vs Byler 2.0 at all because bychance has not ONCE been proposed as a replacement for Byler, at least not from myself or @cypherheartnokey which are ( as far as im aware ) the main people theorizing about it right now. I personally don’t even see it as a real ship, but that’s just me. 

HOW THIS WHOLE THING STARTED ( as far as i know )

So a few days ago, i made this post:

I used the Byler tag and have continued to do so bc skeptic ( and even full on anti-bychance ) Bylers were my intended TARGET AUDIENCE for this. I knew there was a risk I would get some hate for taking it seriously since Bychance was never supposed to be more than just a silly and fun crackship that the fandom made up. (😭im not even gonna pretend I don't go into laughing fits over how absolutely bonkers I sound to myself most days. cypherheartnokey and others --you pookies know who you are <3-- who See The Things Im Seeing keep me sane istg my ride or die fr ) 

It was just supposed to be a fun writing exercise to see if my current ideas held up under scrutiny from bylers. To test myself, basically. 

MY INITIAL ASSUMPTION 

Before I posted, I thought the risk of getting dogpiled on & getting called 'delusional' & whatever else was worth it bc, to my surprise, my earlier Bychance analyses had been well received–even though some of the Bylers engaging with them don’t really think Bychance will happen, they still think the theories about it are entertaining and fun to read and offer input on. This has led to some interesting conversations about Mike and Will’s arcs, and it’s been nice through this content drought. 

However, what i did NOT anticipate was to cause a ‘ship war’--I really didn’t think this would cause harm and that anyone would stoop so low as to send death threats over differing opinions on hypothetical ships that may or may not even happen in the show & even if they do, nothing guarantees they’ll happen in a way we’re perfectly happy with, let’s please be real about our expectations here since we have 0 control over the creative direction the duffers will actually take. 

All we can hope for is that us Bylers truly are amongst their intended target audience and that the show delivers a satisfying closure.  

MY INTENTIONS & WHY I WILL CONTINUE TO USE THE BYLER TAG ( with discretion )

Using the Byler tag allows like-minded Bylers to find my theories–without the tag, it'd be harder for them to find them. 

However, I WILL be extra thoughtful with my use of the tag going forward, and make sure I'm using it when the conversation centers Byler/Mike/Will and other themes pertaining to Byler.

MY CURRENT STANCE

for anyone receiving death threats or insults on behalf of “bychance shippers”, you DO NOT deserve that. Please report and block, if possible. these people are saboteurs, and just want to stir drama without caring about the harm they cause to the community. In fact, they probably enjoy it tbh. 

i do also have to say that i am no authority here and cannot be tone policing other bychancers. i also can’t pretend i am entirely neutral in this scenario since from what I've observed, my bychance mutuals and anons are REACTING to hate we’re getting from bylers. And whereas I'm aware that type of hate is only coming from a handful of people in the community, not all of us will be patient and graceful at all times, we’re human after all.

I dont care if a mileven calls me delusional, i laugh. But when bylers i have admired and learned from for years call one of us stupid for thinking/suspecting X theory might be hinted at and getting stomped on for trying to bring the conversation to the table, yeah I can't guarantee that's not gonna trigger a defense mechanism over time.

Do you personally have to like Bychance or agree? Absolutely not, nobody is saying that. And good faith critiques of the theory are always welcomed and I actually encourage it in my space as long as we keep it civil and follow fandom etiquette, since it keeps fandom alive.  

FINAL THOUGHTS 

The very message of the show we’re discussing is to choose love in the face of fear, and to not let it drive our choices and unawarely continue to feed the cycle of abuse and trauma. Let's do our best to not keep repeating, amongst each other, what we have already been subjected to by the most hateful parts of the ST fandom. 

i'm here to learn and have fun, not to cause wars, discourse or division--bychance as a theory is just the jumpstart and can change over time and maybe even become something else entirely. the goal is just to open the door for those curious enough to investigate, share and discuss any findings. Whether or not you go in, it's up to you. Just don't be mean to the ones that do.

I assume you ship nashxeuonia.. if so, do you have any headcanons for them???

i do like eunash yes, though i dont have a lot of specific headcanons.. i have GENERAL thoughts about them since im not super confident in characterizing them so i hope these thoughts suffice

if i ever came around to invest in writing them, i want to write them in such a way that is agonizingly close to walking across the boundary that is friendship / allyship into something closer but never will. never something spoken. a situationship at most that will always be held back due to the nature of nash’s existence and purpose as a sleepwalker.

given how i feel that nash can never stay in one place due to trying to keep a low profile despite being a kind person at heart ( i.e baroniza pie comp standing in for qin, wishing to stay in upper tenmou with eunoia but cannot ), that behavior is shared across many interactions. i feel that she cannot stay no matter how much her heart and mind yearns for a comfortable familiarity. i think that nash finds a comfort in eunoia but is also conflicted in her feelings that eunoia is an android but she is so very alive but with how eunoia is so open to her about how she has access to many things being made by cielcay and how she implies having more influence than it seems.. i think she naturally finds it hard to trust her despite how open eunoia can possibly be with restriction.

it is hard to embrace the hug eunoia presents with open arms despite how badly she wants to, its just not possible.

i also think.. ah well, i think this thought needs more brewing but

i have a eunash thought exercise that there exists a “real” eunoia that the android eunoia hivemind are modeled after that lives relatively quietly in where the writ in stone dream is located. i would like to write the disconnect between the “real” eunoia and the eunoia(s) nashatra has come to know.

i want to write a further agony to the idea around frozen soul, that there is so much more to the dreamsphere and by writing extension the world that we know. even when nashatra feels she finally has a grasp on who eunoia is, even with details omitted such as motive and intention, this eunoia stands in the way. her existence poses more questions.

i apologize if these arent the softest or sweetest headcanons, especially when compared to other pairings i draw where there is some dallop of domestic sweetness. i just, have a feeling i will have a world of fun spinning pain of not truly belonging, that the purpose projected onto you by a role you never asked for preventing you from living the life you want. that even when somebody welcomes you with open loving arms you cannot leap into them and lay there forever.

ha.. i think i ended up on more of a nashatra, character speculate than eunash.

ill be sweet a little to compensate.

i like to imagine sometimes, nashatra will afford even a bit more time than she feels she should to spend more time speaking to eunoia. that the moments she has conversation with eunoia about even the silliest things are the warmest she feels despite eunoia’s general symbol being a snowflake.

i think that they do indeed have moments of physical affection that is never explicitly written or spoken to be romantic, but you can feel the tension of yearning for something more that you cannot have. i dont think theyll ever kiss, i dont think they will ever utter i love you to one another, i dont think theyll do a lot of things associated with being romantic but i think ..

i think the day eunoia mourns, will speak volumes about love.
