Christmas story anon going back to my origins of shouting about bed wetting baby Ned Little: Crozier and Jopson obviously know about him being unable to stay dry at night and have very different reactions, and I headcanon that JFJ found out the night Crozier sent him to steal whiskey when JFJ caught him and then insisted that Ned stay the night and not go out in the cold again, which of course resulted in Ned wetting the bed in an unfamiliar place and being found trying to clean up his mess, but who else do you think knows?

I imagine it’s an open secret among the Stewards, Billy obviously knows because he does the Officers laundry, and is surprisingly not spreading rumors about *this* embarrassment, but any other suspicious stains are fair game. John Bridgens I imagine knows and is so kind to Edward over it and desperately wants to give him a hug and is constantly trying to offer him little comforts and Edward is deeply shamed by it.

Hodgson and Irving I’m sure know as well and I think Hodgson is surprisingly good at managing upset, wet, scared Ned. Hodgson seems like someone who has worked a lot on understanding other people’s emotions even if he doesn’t know why they feel the way they do, and will slip into Ned’s cabin if he hears him crying and tell him some very dry and uninteresting story as he dries his tears and helps him wipe his legs off and change his bedding and it makes Ned so tired that he’s basically asleep by the time he’s getting back into bed all nice and dry. Irving wants to help but doesn’t really know how but he’ll try to be soothing. It never goes well and one time he made the mistake of saying Ned was going to wake Crozier and Ned completely freaked out so now Hodgson leaves John in the cabin when he goes to help Ned.

The doctors know because when Crozier found out he marched Ned directly to sickbay and demanded Peddie and MacDonald figure out why his First Lieutenant is “pissing his goddamn berth like a ship’s boy” which of course they couldn’t and resulted in Crozier requesting Stanley and Goodsir to come to Terror and consult as well. All the while Ned is sitting and trying not to cry. Stanley would mock and bully and Goodsir would offer some practical Victorian solutions and privately approach Ned later to apologize for not speaking out against the way Stanley treated him.

Ouha,, him wetting the bed on Erebus, poor soul.. come morning Bridgens might knock on his door like "Good morning, sir, are you ready for breakfast?" And on the other side of the door Edward is sniveling and trying to stuff the wet sheet in a drawer that clearly wasn't built for it.

Bridgens would get so worried for Edward he might come in even though he respects the officers' privacy otherwise. Something is just telling him he has to. Soon as he sees Edward he understands and closes the door and tries to comfort him as best he can, in a soft voice. "I'll clean this up, it's alright. There's really no shame in it, sir, it simply happens sometimes." which makes Edward even more flustered.

Hodgson is great, yeah. He's got that stable laid-back energy, which a tearful Ned might appreciate. Imagining him holding Johnny with one hand and taking care of Ned with the other... He's so good at parenting.. Somehow.

Noooo Crozieeeerrrrr!! Stop being an asshole >:'( ngl that scenario is so intriguing, though... McDonald might have an idea, but he doesn't want to tell Crozier about it - has to have a private conversation with Little first. Given how shaken up and nervous he is, that proves impossible, but he does reassure him a whole bunch.

Other than them, I think Le Vesconte might know. James slips about it one day while they're alone and relaxed and Fitzjames isn't as careful about what he's saying overall. Just slips out. He immediately makes Le Vesconte swear he won't tell anyone.

Then Blanky might also know. He has his cabin close to Edward's so there's a high likelyhood of him bumping into Hodgson or Jopson as they're carrying soiled sheets. And well, he knows what pee smells like. Plus he saw what cabin they came out of, so he connects the two quickly. He doesn't give away that he knows, though, and doesn't tell anyone else about it. When Crozier tells him later, he acts all surprised.

Aaaaand that's it I think. Everyone (except JFJ, *sigh*) keeps quiet about it. Even among eachother it's not a topic they really talk about. Just the person most available atm cleans him up - sometimes Hodgson, or Jopson, if he's on Erebus then Bridgens; discreetly excusing themselves from whatever and washing the sheets immediately.

Chuuya's reaction to Dazai getting hurt during the Lovecraft fight has always been so interesting to me...

Because it's the kind of worry you'd never expect from a character as gruff as Chuuya, who had displayed nothing but hostility towards Dazai so far. Usually, characters that are labelled as "angry" or "anger issues" (which Chuuya is much more complex than that but you get my point) act more as a tsundere type of way when the one they "don't care about" gets hurt. And show their care in very, very subtle ways (ex. their eyes widen, their mouth parts and closes again, etc) before putting up their front once more.

Chuuya, however, is open, and vocal about it. His worry is clear not only to us, but to Dazai himself, the one he shouldn't be displaying the concern to (as per the cliche). Shouldn't it be some sort of secret that Chuuya does care? Isn't that what skk's dynamic has been shaping up to be until now?

I'm telling you- the way my mind blanked when Chuuya just casually.... showed concern not once, but twice, was a sight to see.

Besides, the context makes it much more confusing, because Dazai isn't some rookie, and Chuuya knows that more than anybody. He was the youngest executive in Port Mafia's history, of course he can handle a hit or two. Of course he'd seen him handle a hit or two, sometimes without batting an eye.

Heck, Chuuya himself was hurling Dazai like a ragdoll in their reunion, which was their last meeting. And you could argue that he was going easy on him, but Dazai has mostly withstood the same damage (as far as I could see), and Chuuya was as bitter as ever.

So that kind of contradicts both what we knew of Chuuya so far, and how their dynamic was shaped to be. I mean, that just makes Chuuya a hypocrite, yeah? What makes him care now, all of a sudden? What makes him care at all?

Well, to me, this backasswards reaction implies one (or more) of the following:

- Dazai rarely got physically hurt during their partnership and thus this is an unexpected thing for him to see (during a mission).

- The four years of separation made Chuuya unsure of how much Dazai can withstand physically now. Also the fact that he isn't in the mafia anymore, aka fighting enemy organizations on the weekly, would naturally make Dazai lose his touch in a way, what prompts Chuuya's reaction.

- Dazai getting taken off guard took him off guard which led to panic. Especially since the situation was (momentarily) out of their depth. Seriously wtf even was Lovecraft?

- During the dungeon scene Dazai was an enemy, while in the Lovecraft fight he was as an ally. The difference might be significant to Chuuya.

- This has always been Chuuya's reaction to Dazai getting hurt regardless of the situation.

- "Only I can hurt him like that" ahh logic

- Asagiri was still experimenting with their dynamic and thus there are some inconsistencies.

This scenario didn't play out again (after their reunion) for me to exactly determine which one is more plausible, but it is 100% canon for Chuuya to shamelessly show his concern and run to Dazai to check on him before properly dealing with their opponent, which I find to be such an appealing layer to their dynamic, and a good spin on the type of character he gets stereotyped as.

Bonus: Dazai also becomes a softy when Chuuya's hurt, especially post corruption. Dead Apple alone displays that multiple times.

All in all, Skk are doing a terrible job at maintaining their 'hostile' and 'antagonistic' relationship post their reunion. Freaks.

a little more serious answer: they can tell something is going on with optimus and they desperately want to pretend it's not. they don't want to know how he's aware of things he shouldn't be, how he knows stuff that should have long been forgotten, how he seems to be more familiar with them than he should be. how sometimes he speaks and it's like the dead are talking through him. how sometimes he will answer to empty air and somehow they can just tell what he's responding to. who he is talking to.

they Know. and they really, really want to pretend they don't.

they already carry the guilt of failing them once. the idea of doing it once more is unbearable and they'd rather deceive themselves than face it. they'd rather their friends stay dead and gone than think of them seeing what they've become.

as fun as it is to talk about the sillay crow family dynamics, i'm soo interested in what this means for the crow familia going forward in a darker lens.

im mostly speaking from the perspective of a rook de riva who romanced lucanis btw <3

illario brought the axe down on his own head after failing to take first talon. he's imprisoned except to play house whenever caterina wants to see him around for family dinners before tensions inevitably shove him back into the cage he's been left to like some house pet lmfao. it's actually kinda fucked up and as a certified sicko i love it. especially considering the casualness in which lucanis describes all of this. crows gotta be a little unhinged<3

But!!! while lucanis was right that illario's reputation is ruined forever as a traitor crow beaten to his knees before every house that doesn't exactly free house dellamorte either. Talon houses will want their pound of flesh of illario for nearly trying to put antiva under venatori control. and yet lucanis refused. house dellamorte showed mercy. they are breaking the rules, making exceptions. this is not how the crows operate and there should--WILL be retaliations for it. illario left this house bleeding in his attempt to claim first talon and their blood is in the water now with house dellamorte having a sole heir who blatantly exposed a weakness and seemingly has no lineage to take after him.

and nevermind that we know murmurs amongst the crows will linger about a first talon being an abomination. i know lucanis kind of handwaves it off as at the coffee date like 'there could be worst first talons' but baby boy, you have avoidance and denial issues this WILL become worse of a problem the longer it goes on. <3

but in comes fifth talon viago de riva. a bastard to the king of antiva who wants to strengthen the crown. a man who has been ruthlessly exacting and meticulous to get where he is now. and the scariest part is that he has ambition, always has, and knows he has more power than the king himself to make plays if he needs to. this makes for a dangerous (and sexy) combination. in comes his protege rook. casting silly family dynamics aside, viago knows this union between house dellamorte and de riva is extremely beneficial for both houses but also very dangerous. even he knows his ties to teia show a weakness in him that other crows may seek to exploit. and while i do think he may be sincere about wanting rook to find their happiness with lucanis as he has with teia - i truly think he will not shy from showing the importance of a 'political alliance/union' especially with first talon house dellamorte struggling from the blow after all is said and done.

and of course, by extension to de riva, house cantori and the beautiful lovely miss teia, will be extending her support to strengthen their houses but also herself from any opposition. as much as i love that she's kind of the heart that brings this fucked up lil familia together, i know she is just as cunning and clever to recognize what this alliance does for her too.

and caterina.. well, without going into a whole thought piece on her, she has built her (and her grandson's reputation) entirely to instill fear in others, even command enough respect to know she's the one running things while lucanis is just a stand-in as first talon. but what happens when caterina is gone? another dellamorte dead just like all the others. all lucanis has left is himself and his traitor brother. how does he handle illario? how does he fair being a leader to the crows when he didn't want any of this in the first place and no longer has caterina to guide him? how does he wish to pursue carrying the dellamorte legacy (if at all)? does he seek a protege of his own to take on after him? i can't remember who says it (viago or lucanis) but there's a line about how saving thedas will make their houses immortal (hot and very sexy) but also how far can that reputation protect house dellamorte, really?

i don't really have a point to all of this, this is all just stuff im simply chewing on and letting out into the ether because the ripple effect of repercussions with what illario did and what lucanis now has to deal with fascinates me SO MUCH.

It's the first thing Steve says after everything.

After getting Vecna Cursed. After nearly dying. After a hallucination of Eddie saved him. After running through a looped forest. After finding sanctuary in Steve's memory of that Starcourt bathroom. After Eddie reveals himself as Eddie.

It's the only thing he can think of. It's not big enough to fit everything, but it's the only thing that fits in his mouth.

"Don't be."

Maybe that's the only thing Eddie can think of too. The only thing Eddie can bear to say.

Because don't be can't stop Steve's eyes from watering when he sees the vest in his closet. Don't be can't stop Steve's feet from dragging him to the cemetery every evening to clean Eddie's graffiti-covered tombstone. Don't be can't stop Steve from sitting beside Wayne and listening to him talk about the Eddie he remembers. Don't be can't stop Eddie's body from showing up in Steve's dreams, nor Eddie's corpse from his nightmares. Don't be couldn't keep the pain away enough, didn't stop Vecna from latching onto it while Steve was walking alone in the woods.

Don't be isn't enough for what Steve wants to hear. But even stuck here waiting, hoping, for someone to get Steve out, there just isn't enough time.

"I miss you."

"...Why?"

Eddie says it back so quickly, so quietly, like it's just unfathomable to him. Maybe it is, considering their last memories. But their eyes meet and he looks just as sad, just as longing, as Steve.

"You were my friend."

Steve can't help but say it like that. Like they were friends for years instead of days. Like Eddie was that important to him in their final moments. Like his heart really aches for Eddie every second of the apocalypse.

Can't help but say it like he means it.

"I wish we could've had more time..."

Steve's voice cracks a little there as he turns away, hiding. It's all he wants. It's all Vecna used to entice him with. It's all that's keeping him going, to finally fulfill the last request Eddie made. It's all he has left to feel close to Eddie.

The Eddie that's sitting right next to him, silent, his sight weighing on Steve's skin. Conscious and aware and the real Eddie. Trapped in Vecna's head as a backup power source, yet who still risked everything to come save Steve. Who Steve will never see again because killing Vecna means killing Eddie for good, and his heart doesn't want it, is begging for another solution...

But for once, his broken head overpowers his shattered heart.

"Maybe we did."

Eddie takes Steve's hand. Meets Steve's surprised look with his own small smile of hope. They're both suddenly tearing up, eyes glistening with life in this gray stall.

"Maybe in another world, we got a second first chance. A first second chance. Maybe even a third, or fourth. Maybe in a different life, we had everything we wanted. Because you, Steve Harrington, are too good for me to be doomed to meet just once."

And for a moment, Steve sees it. Feels it. Versions of them connected through the universe.

Little kids playing in the lake. One with bruised skin and shaved hair, loud but unfathomably lonely. One with a bruised heart and soft eyes, timid but stubbornly hopeful.

A rockstar with glittering chains, center stage in the spotlight. A set of eyes in the crowd or behind the curtain, watching only him.

A werewolf and a vampire, two cryptids of horror, meeting in the dead of a full moon night to feel safe with the only other one who understands.

A future where they won, where the only death was the one that mattered. A process of healing and learning, coming home to a family every single day.

A world without pain, without their hell, where two high schoolers found freedom from their shackles and company in each other. Hiding away together in the dark corners of the town.

Steve even sees other versions of them. Versions that he knows were originally never supposed to meet, yet forces so much greater than them pulled them together.

A metalhead drug dealer, constantly getting into trouble with one nail-bat-weilding cop.

A criminal's fugitive nature leading him to a rugged trailer park, and the dangerous owner within one such home.

An eccentric king in an old coliseum, always choosing one particular warrior as his champion.

A young programmer being pulled away from his work by sobs above his apartment, running upstairs to check on the law student that recently moved in.

Two actors, finding an easy friendship in the months of filming one season of a show that would change their lives.

In that moment, Steve's overwhelmed by the closeness he suddenly feels with the soul beside him. Falling into tears, he pulls Eddie into a tight hug, holding him so so close to convey everything he can't say. Feeling Eddie hold him back, hearing everything Eddie can't say in return.

Familiar music comes on outside the stall. Robin's voice calls out to him, telling him to come home.

And when he does leave, Steve hopes that someone out there will understand that he never can. Because here in Eddie's arms is the only place that will ever truly feel like home.

"Thank you... for everything, Eddie."

Thank you, Steve. For everything and more..."

I wanted to ask you, what do you think Alastor and Mimzy would have been like if they hadn't died? Like decades later.

Would Alastor continue his job as a radio announcer? I wonder if the technological innovation at the time would have affected their lives.

Do you think Mimzy would continue her petty thefts and crimes? Or if she would look for a new life.

Hi! :3 No redemption arc for them, that's for sure. They are the same bastards but older.

I think Alastor would continue his radio career. After all, we saw in the show that he's veeeery passionate about that. With all his charisma, I'm certain that he got that popularity and status to be recognizable on the streets (as much as he could anyway). Still, to me, it seems that he would be just as skeptical of other new types of media so dedicated to his niche.

Oh, Mimzy absolutely would! That's her thing, after all. Why stop all of a sudden? It's funny to me to think that she might have charmed some naive rich guy into eventually becoming his wife, and then that naive rich guy died under ✨mysterious circumstances✨, and all his goodies went to Mimzy. She will definitely cry at certain moments and say how much she misses her sweet husband and how unfair life is. To be in that Grieving Widow of a Rich Guy role for a while, just for her entertainment mostly.
