In terms of advice, I'd say just be prepared for random stuff to go wrong.

DOWN SCALE.

Unless you have the wide open space required to house an extra entity, I'd say down scale it and make the wing span smaller, because I literally cannot put these anywhere lol. Me and my friends were measuring them by an estimated version of Tessa's height, assuming she was an adult Australian (160cm) and not a dead child wearing robot. The original wing span ended up being almost three and a half Tessas. Down scaling is definitely recommended.

Then going on to material, I'm going to be honest, I don't really know what any good substitutes for what I've been using. The best thing I can think of would be like cutting up one of those big umbrellas you see in like outdoor seating areas because they are built to be sturdy and light enough to to transport places. The blade part of the wings were made out of cheapo yoga mats, they are not Eva foam(idk if Eva foam is more expensive, but cheapo worked for me), they are some kind of material similar to insulation sheets just slightly thicker, I have the cutting patterns on the blog (the mats are 140x50x1cm) . Springs are something similar to "helical extension springs"(they pull things together, like trampoline springs) the strength of these will vary depending on how and if you downscale the over all project.

The general wing mechanism had to be redone a little bit but the new design is just based off an umbrella. It's good to use when you fold it in that the sections form a square in between the joints as a reference because it makes it easier to translate to the wings when drilling holes. The grey moving bar is on the outside now👇

I'll be reall, this part👆 needs a bit of precision. The two holes at the bottom have to be the exact same distance and stuff as each other so the mechanism works. You could probably find a way to optimise the mechanism but I did not (this was just easier for me at least)

The way all the blade parts go up is kinda cheesing it if you want all individual parts to work perfectly without extra materials. I was tying a string together on the bars and it worked to space the wings as I wanted to.

All in all, I'm going to be making a big ol summary post detailing all the stuff whenever I'm done fully.

Prop making and cosplay in general are things I probably can't comment on because I have never done cosplay and most of the prop things, I make are made out of random trash I can find that would cost dumb money if you went out to buy it new.

These for example are gutter or house liner plastic that was left over from a building site (gloves were uber cheap) and they were tedious and smelly to cut out and melt over an open flame, but if you want to do this too wear a mask for saftey unless you don't care about your lungs (which you should)

The claws were a lot easier to make. Easy enough that I made two sets (I think I went through the process of making these already)

hunter unraveling his cognitive dissonance and cult brainwashing in an AU where he doesn't have all of hollow mind's answers; his feelings are Incredibly complicated and messy & he gets incredibly mean and snarly about it

darius grappling with the fact that his own grief and resentment blinded him to a kid who Very Much Needed Him, darius dealing with the fact that actually he never DID grieve his mentor or his mentor's dead family

darius and hunter developing a rapport in a timeline where hunter very much has Not broken out of all the cop shit that darius disdains So Much. so darius is so fucking exasperated and tired all the time

eda trying desperately to help hunter learn to live with a curse / chronic pain / chronic illness, while having very little faith in herself to begin with

luz feeling Horrifically guilty about hunter's curse and injuries, bc she thinks she should have clocked the abuse and brought him home with her or otherwise stopped it

hunter developing an almost immediate and pathological emotional attachment to luz because of her kindness, which complicates all of his complicated feelings WAAAAAY MORE

eda, darius, AND luz all desperately trying to get hunter to admit that he's been abused and that what happened wasn't his fault. you would not believe how fucking long it takes.

i'm actually really, really, Really proud of it -- it's rare for one of a writer's best works to be their most popular, but this genuinely is one of mine. if not my best work, period. there's a lot of nuance and messiness and emotional complexity and grief and arguing that i'm SO happy with.

also, despite the subject matter, it's often extremely lighthearted. some of the funniest dialogue i've ever written is strewn throughout all these serious emotional threads.

I just went down a rabbit hole of new (to me) language learning resources since I’ve been away from the community for some time and holy shit there are some really cool things?? This app/site Clozemaster seems pretty helpful; you fill in a word in a sentence, each language seems to have 10k+ sentences, but I guess it’s better to know the basics in a language before doing this (I can get by in Polish on there rn basically from knowing Russian and Ukrainian lmfao but otherwise I would have no clue on most of the words). I also found Readlang, which would be pretty helpful when trying to read an e-book bc you can see the translation right there on the page (I was basically doing this for Russian; downloading pdfs of books and highlighting words I didn’t know and then looking them up lmfao fuck). Technology is amazing sometimes

Like the show just info dumps a bunch of seemingly random shit and the ARG has all the important shit you actually need to know… but since gravity falls is actually competent you don’t even need to know they HAVE an ARG site to understand the show

youre right, the plot holes here really distract from the "narrative," and again they really should have focused on GENERAL species lore first because now theres the chance things will need to be retconned once they actually do come up with the species lore

the web arg aspect of it can be done well, but not for major parts of lore. tell me about your world and species UPFRONT, dont make me dig around in the files just to find out what the hell a terra even is. save the puzzles and games for minor lore, like personality info about the NPCs. thats a fun way to engage the community while also not taking away from the experience of members who dont know/cant figure out the puzzles. the gravity falls comparison is also really good here, since you can watch the show without engaging with any of the ARG aspects and still have a fully formed narrative, a 10 year old watching the show for the first time can understand the world and events perfectly fine without digging through reddit to read backwards codes. this just reminds me of those people who will give important story details OUTSIDE of the story, like jk rowling tweeting dumbledore is gay, or vivziepop giving important details to the hierarchy of her world in podcasts.

its just another example of how terra staff's priorities are really out of whack, you release yet ANOTHER new subtype when your design approvals are still a mess, you make lore for the new subtype BEFORE the lore of the actual species, and you dont fully deliver on either front because theres next to no actual info on the design guidelines of the planetary subtype and there are really weird restrictions (like only being able to have circular planets) attributed to "lore," then we find this lore out and its got major plotholes and still doesnt explain why the planetary subspecies is only allowed to have planets in the visor and not other celestial bodies

in my ideal world, i think the planetary subspecies could operate the same as the fossil subspecies, where theres a "sub-subspecies" for planets, one for stars, one for galaxies, etc. etc. and then you can have your cake and eat it too. you can make your lore around the "planet" sub-subspecies while also not imposing weird and illogical design restrictions. and of course, this would all be done AFTER the general species lore is completed (and given in an EASILY ACCESSIBLE page on the website none of this ARG bs) because really that should have been done a year ago.

I think you need to expand your vocabulary. I haven't seen any hate, i've seen people expressing disappointment, sadness and even feeling betrayed by it. You also need to stop policing others and telling them how they should feel. Everyone's feelings are valid.

We all know Louis needs to stunt with F, but we're expecting Louis to keep the exposure of him to a minimum and rather use other means to closet himself and quiet the speculation around his relationship with Harry. Bringing F to his shows, mentioning him or doing things like he did yesterday will give Louis a very strong negaive reaction from fandom. It's when he does things like this at his shows, which is supposed to be a place where you forget about the atrocities Louis has done in the name of his closet, that people have had enough. So it's wise to keep things like that out of his shows. To me it seemed like an unplanned, spur of the moment thing.

Nobody is demanding that L comes out, we're just asking for him to not stunt at his shows. Babygate ending would be a career boost for him, it wouldn't be a scandal. He'd get sympathy from everyone and give him a shitload of attention. I don't need the truth, i know the truth. I also don't need to be more understanding. I'm not taking his shit lying down. Quick warning I complain about my mental health in this and general fandom shit

yeah I hate constant negativity but like my autistic ass cannot deal with bad stuff rn. like, I will go down a rabbit hole that makes me feel worse? About my special interests. That’s how I got anxiety and never watched shows from stuff I liked, I only saw the “problematic” and “bad” things about it and was scared of criticism of stuff I like.

i feel like this mindset of mine could’ve been avoided if my mom didn’t let me on sites like TikTok at such a young age. As now I’ve masked to the point where I try to run away from any fandom discourse because my autism + ptsd + anxiety combo will be like “You’ll over think this for the next week and not be able to sleep!” And I think that’s why I can’t enjoy most things anymore. Like I enjoy my hyperfixations as of late but only hearing bad news is just… so anxiety inducing.

Like if you monitor your kids’ online stuff, that’s not good bc it shows that you don’t trust them to make their own decisions and take away some of their agency, which is something kids don’t already have enough of. But then if you don’t monitor it enough, your kid might end up on the wrong message board or the wrong rabbit hole on YouTube and start watching Andrew Tate type of shit or TERF shit.

And like if you don’t want them using apps or sites that might fuck with their body image, you run into a similar issue. Like videos of teenagers doing crazy skin care routines and doing their make up in ways that make them look much older/grown up, and then the creeps that come with that stuff as well.

If you don’t let them go online at all, you also risk setting them up for bullying/isolation in school bc kids might make fun of them for having strict parents or not seeing trending stuff. Or they’ll end up too naive and not emotionally prepared for the crazy shit that’s out there and will continue to get crazier undoubtably.

a non-filipino's guide to trese: ep 1

So some of my mutuals decided to check out Trese aka the Netflix adaptation of the Filipino horror comic book series that I keep rambling about here and then since well um most of my mutuals aren’t from the Philippines fshfs I decided to make a long-ass post that basically consists of me rambling about the cultural context present in Trese with fun little tidbits about Filipino folklore. I’m not an expert on Filipino mythology so um I just typed out the stuff that I know and the stuff that I looked up on Wikipedia so um take this with a grain of salt aaaaa I’ll save the extensive google scholar research ramble on folklore present in Trese for another day.

I’ll try to find the sites where I got some of the information from cause um yea I kinda had a bit of a hard time finding the other shit so um once again, take the stuff here with a grain of salt. Also, feel free to add more info if you guys got any!

SO ANYWAYS ENJOY ME RAMBLING ABOUT EPISODE 1 OF TRESE WOO

+ MRT and LRT (Manila Metro Rail Transit and Light Rail Transit) are train systems in NCR (the capital region) and yea them suddenly stopping and malfunctioning in the middle of the goddamn rail is a daily occurrence and we have been trying to deal with this bullshit for years but alas, corruption and negligence are sweet sweet drugs.

+ When the MRT broke down, you'd see a red bee in the flashing billboard right? Well that's Jollibee and that's probably the most well-known fast food restaurant chain here heck there are even branches of it abroad!

+ According to many youtube comments along with other social media posts that I am way too tired to link here, the opening theme is an Ifugao ethnic song called Balluha'd Bayyauhen but with modern accompaniments and I think the song is about a fruit called a balluha that the character in the song tries to it but cannot swallow. (someone please correct me if I’m wrong here fjkfs)

+ The first um monster that we see Alexandra interact with is the White Lady of Balete Drive. White Ladies or “Kaperosa” are a type of female ghosts typically dressed in ghostly white dresses or similar garments. According to legend, she died in a car accident while driving along Balete Drive (a two lane street formerly lined with Balete Trees which are said to be a home for spirits and mysterious creatures) in Quezon City while other accounts say she died waiting for the arrival of her lover; others also say that she was a teenage girl who was run over and killed by a taxi driver at night and then buried around a Balete tree while another variation of the tale claims that a student from the University of the Philippines was sexually assaulted and killed by a taxi driver nearby and so said ghost haunts the street in search of her murderer. There are many other variations but according to local rumor, the legend was fabricated by a reporter in 1953 in order to make an interesting story. What remains consistent in many variations is that apparently taxi drivers would be stopped by a beautiful lady asking for a ride and if one would look at the rear window, they would see that the white lady in question is bruised and drenched in blood.

+ There are a lot of mentions about "lakans" and stuff in reference to Alex and her father right? In precolonial times, the term is used to refer to the paramount ruler or the highest-ranking political authorities in Tagalog communities (so um NCR and some parts of Region 4). In Muslim communities, they are called sultans while communities with strong trade connecitons with Indonesia or Malaysia called them Rajah. Datu is umm the more generalized term though when it comes to discussing the leaders of the precolonial Filipinos.

+ So, Alex’s mom is a babaylan and back in the pre-colonial period, each barangay (which a native filipino term for a village or a district; said term is still used today to describe um divisions in municipalities like) had them and these are basically Philippine shamans and they specialized in communicating with the spirits of the dead. To my knowledge, the role of babaylan went to women and yea people assigned male at birth but then identified as female were also allowed to become babaylans and they would be treated with the same respect given to any woman back then (honestly I dunno much about lgbtq+ stuff back in the precolonial times but all I know is that precolonial Filipinos were much a lot more welcoming towards trans identities bUT THEN THE SPANIARDS CAME AND UM ERR RUINED THAT); also the writing Alexandra's mom did in that one scene with the dagger is in Baybayin - preHispanic Filipino script. I dunno what she wrote down though. .

+ Also I kinda find it funny that the people here esp those who were at the White Lady scene are um,,, not at all surprised? Like yea quite a number of filipinos have their own superstitions and beliefs and all that but um yea the people in Trese seem very used to the bullshit,,,which in retrospect, isn't at all inaccurate fsdfd I MEAN WE DEAL WITH UNSURMOUNTABLE AMOUNTS OF BS ON A DAILY BASIS SO I DON’T THINK DEAD GHOSTS WOULD EVEN FAZE MANY FSKJDS

+ The one that appears right before Alexandra talks with the duwende (the one in the manhole) is called Laman Lupa (which i guess translates to um "What is in the earth"? just um YEA THEY ARE DIRT CREATURES). normally this is an umbrella term for duwendes and nunos but in Trese they are servants of these aforementioned creatures.

+ Duwende (which came from the Spanish phrase "dueno de case" which means "owner of the house") or dwarves in Filipino folklore are known to be mischievous and magical environmental guardians. They are believed to reside in trees or under earth mounds (those that live in the latter are called nuno sa pundo or old man of the mount) which is why quite a lot of Filipinos say "tabi tabi po" or “excuse me” when wandering around a forest or earth mounds as a sign of respect and in the hopes the duwende won't torment them. If the person is friendly, the duwende can also be friendly in return and will bring that person good lucl; otherwise, those who destroy their homes by stepping on them will face their wrath in form of heartless curse and predictions of ominous and disastrous fates. A duwende's color also depends on their budhi or conscience: to my knowledge, white duwendes are kind, red ones give protection amulets, green ones are firnedly with children and the black ones give nothing but trouble.

+ Chocnut aka the snack Alex bribes the nuno with is a very yummy chocolate snack made of coconut milk, crushed peanuts and cocoa powder. They are umm about an inch in length and maybe half an inch in width so it's fairly small; that being said I WANT THE CHOCNUT THAT ALEXANDRA HAS CAUSE HOT DAMN THAT'S A BIG CHOCNUT

+ In Trese, the creatures in the MRT scene and in the warehouse Alexandra visits after she talks with the duwende are called "aswang". In Philippine folklore, it is an umbrella term for any kind of monster so um an aswang in Luzon would be very different from the aswang in Mindanao. According to what I saw on wikipedia, they can be classified in 5 categories: the vampire (self-explanatory um they drink blood), the viscera sucker (the manananggal, i'll get to that next time), the weredog (cats and pigs are also possible but um yea they target pregnant women), the witch (self-explanatory boom curses and stuff) and the ghoul (they gather near trees in cemeteries to feast on human corpses). Aswangs are often described to have a long, hollow tongue, sharp claws and sharp teeth, although they do also have human forms.

The knocking at my door was loud. A striking contrast to the usual silence of my apartment. I rolled over to check the time. Glowing red numbers indicated it was 2:10 AM.

“Coming!” I shouted groggily. When I reached the door the person outside had knocked 15 times in two minutes. I reached for the door knob but hesitated. Who was outside my apartment at 2 AM?

I looked through the peephole and saw a fish-eye version of Spencer Reid. I threw open the door.

He was a mess. Spencer had dots of blood on his sleeve. Holes ripped through the knees of his slacks. Tear tracks running down his cheeks.

“Y/N, can I- can I come in? I know it's late but I don't know where to go. I think I need help.” Spence was holding the crook of his bloodied arm. Injection sites.

“What did you take?” My voice cracked but I looked him in the eye. He returned my eye contact. Something he hadn't been able to do for months.

“Dilaudid.” His eyes shot to the floor. His tell. He knew what I would ask next and he knew it would be bad.

“How much?” I was holding the door open with my left hand. My right hand fiddled with the bottom of my shirt.

“Spencer. How much did you take?” He was nervous- and high.

“Does it really matter? I'm fine I just need-”

“Spencer! What you need is to tell me how much you took so I know if you're going to OD!” I took a deep breath. “I will ask you one more time before I call an ambulance- how much did you take?” My voice wasn't shaky anymore. I wasn't Y/N, Spencer Reid’s friend. I was Y/N Y/L/N, RN.

“10 milligrams.” Spencer was starting to sway in the doorway.

“Spence. Look at me.” Spencer’s watery eyes met mine. He was trying to hold it together.

“If you come in, you're staying for three weeks. You're detoxing here. If you can't do that, leave. I will not have my heart broke by another addict, do you understand?” My voice was powerful but not frightening. Spencer always called it my nurse voice.

“I-”

“Do you understand, yes or no?”

“Yes.”

“Then come in.” I stepped aside and Spencer walked in the door.

“Sit. There.” I pointed to my small couch. Spencer did as directed. I walked to my bedroom to get my nursing kit. When I came back Spencer was holding his head in his hands. I knelt in front of him.

“Take off your shirt.” Spencer looked up in surprise.

“Unless you'd rather take off your pants.” He shook his head and pulled off his button up shirt.

I drew one milliliter of naloxone from the bottle. The clear liquid sloshed inside the needle as my hands shook.

“You ok?” Spencer’s voice was that of a high druggie. Shaky and fake.

1. Can we talk about the misogyny in this fandom? Especially towards female ocs? Some of the finest ASOIAF characters I've ever seen on this site has been female ocs. Some of the best characters I've written have been female ocs. And yet this fandom FLOCKS and FAWNS over muns who portray male characters. As if they're BETTER than the female characters. Better than the female ocs. And it's absolutely abhorrent every time i see it.

Especially considering the amount I've seen people ONLY want male muses to ship with just to ship and not interested in the actual relationship. I love interacting interacting Dee and her muses because of the relationships she helps me explore and build. And even if some of our characters marry those marriages are not always romantic. You can have just as much fun in this fandom with female characters, but God forbid you get this fandom to admit that

And I say that as someone who loves a good ship. Its good shit. In this house we love and respect female ocs and their muns probably more than the muns of male canon characters just because of the stuff this fandom puts them through.

Secondly. This fandom needs to work on its communication. Especially given how misogynistic it gets - and no it's not misogynistic to not like female characters. You don't have to like ever character. Especially female characters who use the Patriarchy against other female characters. This is an intentional dig at some parts of this fandom, and no i will not elaborate. The girls who know, know, and those who dont... anyway. I have a huge life update to share rn--- My top surgery consultation is scheduled for July 5th!!!! I’M SO EXCITEDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!! I’ve also been vaccinated!! :D ANNNDDD MY LEGAL NAME AND SEX HAVE BEEN CHANGEDD!!!!! :DDDD kind of a lot has happened since I’ve been actually active around here But now I guess is the much harder part, my official surgery date will be set at the consultation, but there’s a required $1,000 fee to set the official date for my surgery. The $1,000 covers a portion of the surgery as well, and the base price for the surgery is $8,500. I’ll get the exact price on July 5th, but that’s their base rate. I need to earn or raise at least $1,000 of the total cost before July 5th to secure my surgery date!! I’m going to take commissions when I can, I have 1 almost entirely complete right now and then I can take on more! I’ve waited so long for this and I’m fricken excited, it’s the last step in transitioning for me! It really means everything for me, I feel like I’ve been waiting forever and I can’t believe it’s finally happening !?!!! I am forever in everyones debt here and everywhere because I never wouldve even been able to start hrt if it wasn’t for the help here. I’m just so. Overwhelmed with emotion and gratitude I cant even tell how many times Ive cried and just felt like... actual gender euphoria since starting t..

So abt the appointment, I’m getting surgery with Dr. Javad Sajan, and I’m getting button hole double incision. Im serious his before and after pictures make me so emotional I am so happy and emotional for those people and I cannot wait to feel that kind of happiness and relief. But a big problem about this for me, is that he is in Seattle, and I live in southern Oregon. I can’t drive, so I have to rely on someone else, or take the train from a nearby city (Eugene). My consultation is over skype (which is amazing and a huge relief), but my pre-op appointment is in person, and of course so is the actual surgery. We’re planning on taking the train from Eugene because it seems to be the most reliable way to get there and back each time. Aside from my surgery, I’ve got to cover the price of the trip there and back (twice, once there and back for pre-op, once there and back post op,) and the price of a place to stay during the pre-op appointment. Right now my goal cost wise, is just the booking and base appointment price ($8,500, that’s including the $1,000 appointment setting deposit, which is just a part of the surgery cost and the base covers everything, surgery, the stay at the hospital, nips, anesthesia, everything). The full price is due at the pre-op appointment, and that’s the final bill. My insurance doesn’t cover anything because it’s out of state and county, and because its informed consent model. (which Im choosing because Id have to battle insurance for 2 years minimum if I was getting the surgery in Oregon, but I am very set on my surgeon after considering everything and calling many offices and looking through many subreddits and talking to ppl who’ve gotten it here and there) A lot of this information is on their site as well. My medications for schizophrenia have started not working right, and when my schizophrenia meds get under control, it makes my adhd (?) significantly worse. I really dont know whats going on with me right now and it’s hard and confusing and I keep swinging back and forth and it’s making everything deteriorate so fast I cant keep up with it. It seriously effects my ability to do anything at all, even art, and its been like this for the last 6 months. I am trying though, still trying to work, still trying to get a job, still trying to get a real diagnosis and help and Im not going to stop any of that. But I think getting top surgery as soon as possible is going to help me too, because dysphoria has just gotten so much worse focusing on my chest since t has started helping me pass and look so much more masculine. Even now since my sex has been legally changed I keep having the horrible thoughts of ‘why, why I am a man Im not supposed to be this way’ and shit idk.
