We got a peak inside Remy's head in ep3 when Madelyne was taunting the team with their inner-most fears, and his was literally Rogue telling him that he was a piece of shit and that she'd found a real man in Magneto who was a hero and way better than him.

Also, the showrunner literally said it was "key" that Remy thought he didn't deserve to be a hero when he died.

So don't try to bullshit us, writers. It wasn't fucking modesty. Remy truly DIDN'T see himself as hero and he fucking died believing that.

But tbh i dont rly have a skincare routine i wash my face once every few days w african black soap. then use cerave sunscreen/night cream, & eye cream. sometimes i use aloe rosewater toner. products r mostly irrelevant less is more, when i used to try expensive sephora skincare brands it always made my skin sooooo much worse, didnt get better til i switched to this simplified lineup which i been using since 2019.

Rly skincare is all about making sure ur drinking enough water (w electrolytes), eating enough healthy fats, and eliminating stuff that dries u out... PUT THE VAPE DOWN😭 s2g vaping is the number one way i see ppl sabotaging their skin, We as a species were never meant to b inhaling constant streams of nicotine🫣 it never shldve been this convenient. like at least switch to cigs to break up the day + give urself sexy cig allure. like YES otto has or at least had some degree of romantic feelings towards kallen but that was FAR from all she represented to him??? like the entire point is that in ottos eyes over time as he grew more and more cynical ruthless and jaded kallen slowly became less of just. a human being. and started turning into the actual and ONLY personification of all good that is even worth fighting for anymore when it comes to humanity itself.

kallen to otto was the literal representative of hope and humanitys goodness. and yes that degree of idolatry is fundamentally dehumanizing towards her too and disregards her personhood but thats WHY its so fucking interesting. kallen was just a human being doing her best to fight for the people and do good yet ottos perception of her grew into one stained by obsession and defined thru blind worship because NO ONE ELSE but her could convince him there was jack shit to the world worth fighting for

THATS why otto went to the ends of the earth and beyond to resurrect her all the while knowing shed feel nothing but utter horror at witnessing how far he fell just for her. bc kallen has NEVER seen herself the way otto did. kallen wouldve NEVER wanted ANYONE to go through the lengths that otto did (KNOWINGLY in violation of her wishes) for her. because she knew better. but thats not how otto was.

in ottos eyes humanity became fundamentally irredeemable when kallen was first vilifed and sentenced to death and then died sacrificing herself for the very same people who were going to execute her anyway. humanity proved itself worthless by failing kallen. THATS his breaking point thats driving his actions the entire time after kallens death and why hes willing to commit all and any sins imaginable to save kallen. because in his mind for a very long time kallen hasnt been just a woman he loved as a friend and as an unrequited crush whose death crushed him just bc omg death grief sad uwu. otto ALREADY had a completely warped perception of the world when kallen was still alive but through her death it all just escalated and turned him into the actually insane madman maniac we know him as. and because humanity already proved itself a failure by betraying kallen as the actual messiah-figure she grew into in his head there was no price too high to force the rest of the world to pay on his way to saving kallen.

I read Worth Living For when it was originally updating and the Together or Not At All series was one of the first Hobbit fanfics I ever read. Both stories are comfort stories that are often re-read (I’m 100% serious when I say the first time I finished Together or Not At All I was crying and instantly began reading again. There was also a semester that I was re-reading the story every other week).

I also introduced Together or Not At All to a friend and we read through the series together. My friend is a big physical book person, and with your permission I would love to layout and get Together or Not At All bound  so the two of us have a matching set. I would gladly send you the digital design pdf or even send you a physically bound version.

If you are not okay with that I completely understand, and I am just so grateful that you shared these stories at all and that I had the opportunity to read them.

Who’s your favourite character in the magnus archives?

Ooooh that's a tough one. Probably sounds like a cop-out but I genuinely found things to like about all of the main cast?? One of the things I latch onto the most is character development, and they all had some really amazing journeys in that way.

My favorites to write and analyze in depth are Jon and Martin, so I might say they're my favorites...?

[TMA spoilers below the cut]

Like, Jon's ADHD ass is first of all very relatable but more than anything I love the GROWTH he goes through?? This man went through so much trauma and faced such unimaginable cruelty and he STILL never stopped caring. He hurt people, yeah -- p much everyone in the podcast does at one point or another -- but he acknowledged it when he did, and even when it would've been easy to just... give in and be monstrous, to just say "fuck it" and live up to the expectations everyone had of him, he made a concerted effort to do better, even when no one acknowledged his progress, even when no one was willing to support him or encourage him or believe he was worth saving.

And I can never say enough about Martin's diehard "so what if the universe doesn't care, that just means we have to pick up the slack" stance towards nihilism. It's not even toxic positivity, it's fully "yeah shit's fucked, the heat death of the universe is inevitable, but I'll STILL fight Jon's shitty self-esteem AND all fourteen, possibly fifteen cosmic evils on the hill of Our Experiences Matter, and the entire time I will be delightfully bitchy about it, no I do not take constructive criticism', who wants to go first?"

Of course I also love Georgie and Melanie and everything about WTGFs. And Gerry, my beloved. And, god, I love Tim and Sasha (I thrive on S1 before-shit-hit-the-fan archives crew content!! and everyone lives/nobody dies AUs, and literally anything involving reconciliation btwn Jon and Tim).

And Basira -- as much as I'd get mad at her sometimes, her words and actions always made sense to me within the context of her characterization and situation, and I love how she and Jon are sort of on the same wavelength re: dark humor and being incorrigible nerds. (I'm having a lot of fun writing them in my current time travel AU, because given the time to heal and the space to actually communicate, I feel they could be friends. Not outwardly affectionate per se, but like... idk, their platonic love language would probably be something like picking apart the flawed methodology of a shitty study and half-jokingly writing a scathing letter to the editor about how wrong the authors are until Daisy gets bored of being the third wheel and demands they all play Mario Kart or something.)

And I'm obsessed with Jon and Daisy' weird post-Buried friendship and just... they were literally the only two people in the Archives who really understood the struggle to resist feeding their respective patrons, but they also didn't make excuses for each other, and -- I genuinely loved the confirmation that Jon never actually forgave her and didn't sugarcoat her past actions. They probably never would have become friends under any normal circumstances, but given what they had to work with, they built something based on mutual support and accountability and a refusal to engage in the sort of denial that the people around them occasionally did.

In terms of side characters, I still maintain that if Adelard Dekkar knew Jonah's plans from the start he would've astrally projected himself into Elias' office and strangled him to death with his own tie, pseudo-immortality be damned. Replace every Chuck Norris joke ever written with Adelard Dekkar, I s2g.

I also must give an honorable mention to our second ever statement giver, the trope-subverting MVP of "I Am Not LOOKING, I Do Not See It", the king of NOT fucking around and finding out, our gentleman of perpetual staying in his own lane: Joshua Gillespie, gold medal winner of NOT being the first to die in a horror story. What a legend.

aaa I'm rambling. Basically there's a lot to love, both in an 'I am fond of this character's delightful quirks' way and in a 'wow this is good character development from a writing perspective' way.

The one fucker that turns in his work late and sleeps in class. Horikawa has to make sure this dumbass doesn’t end himself from eating too much cup ramen and cook for him. Izumin is a bit of a slacker with his work and stays up late playing games or just doing...whatever the hell he’s up to. Is he a player? Maybe? Why do you wanna know? There’s no doubt that he is a gorgeous man so he’ll have multitudes of admirers.

It’s not that Izuminokami isn’t smart or anything, he’s just pretty lazy. Sure he relies quite a bit on Horikawa already but in college Horikawa is more or less his tutor/mom all rolled into one.

Izuminokami cannot deny that he is a party animal. Most likely a frat boy. A respectful frat boy, hell no he’s not getting the more dumb shenanigans his frat bros are into. He resPECTS women and the queer community damn it. Can and will get into fist fights to protect them.

Yes he will walk someone home if they don’t feel safe.

Found sleeping on benches and in the library. 

Is that one moron who doesn’t hurt because he forgot like my bro and i and Hori-mama has to remind him to PLEASE EAT FOOD I S2G.

Is a night owl, always out at clubs and shit. Yes he knows that he has to do schoolwork but like...pARTY. He still can’t drink to save his life though, ends up passed out pretty quickly if you don’t keep an eye on him. But his morals won’t go away, hell. Can and will still fight bastards while drunk off of his ass.

I think Izuminokami would be a literature major or a history major. He may not look like it, but he adores going on rants about the subjects he’s interested in. That or he’s super duper into the study of bugs. I’ve seen Izuminokami having a bit of a interest in beetles due to him being rather young amongst the swords, so I think he’ll be interested in that!

Super interested in martial arts and kendo, catch him in a competition and his admirers are cheering him on from the sidelines.

Actually now that I think about it, all of the Shinsengumi swords in the college AU have to make sure that Izuminokami is alive because this ho can’t take care of himself for shit. His room is always messy and sure he does clean up and stuff but dude, please take care of yourself. Horikawa is already at his limit.

Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki

Frat boy, party animal. He might be in the rival frat to Izuminokami’s but can actually handle alcohol. He doesn’t sleep around but like Izuminokami, will offer to walk people home sober or not. Can and will fight a ho to protect people. No one’s stopping his ass. Though he would prefer to talk it out, it don’t mean he won’t hesitate to sucker punch a ho. No homo? What’s that? Mutsunokami is physically affectionate with everyone of any identification.

Yes he volunteers at an animal shelter. Yes he feeds all of the stray animals around his dorm/apartment. Yes he tries to sneak them into his room. No he’s not hiding a puppy under his shirt what are you talking about?

Also the kind of man to fall asleep in class. He plays games yes but most of the time he stays up just to hang out with animals or just stargaze. He really likes the stars. Probably has a hobby in astronomy.

This dude has like idk five majors. He wants to major in languages, history, military history, man there’s so many things that Mucchan wants to do! He may get in a little bit over his head but he just want’s to learn everything! He is just oh so curious about the world!!! He has to see it!

Yes he will be the first student to sign up the minute he’s asked to travel abroad.

He’s also that person who throws a mini party to welcome new students into the dorm! He loves meeting new people and gets them gifts and all! It’s so sweet!!!

I feel like Mutsunokami’s dream job is a travel agent or just backpack around the world? His dream is to travel and see the world after all, but he’ll be just as happy to work in a museum! no im not crying at the thought of a museum date with mucchan i just.....wanna...hold.....hAND

Dude he’s the kind of student who is not really a kiss up to his professors but has a super good relationship with them. He gets into friendly debates with them about the subjects in class and he loves getting new perspective on things!

Is also still very much into photography, hell yeah he’ll be in a photography class. Maybe become a professional photographer in his spare time? As a part time job? Maybe!

Of course he volunteers to hang out with kids. He’s a pretty damn good baby sitter, that’s also a part time job. He’ll happily tutor peeps of all ages!

Juzumaru Tsunetsugu

OH this man turns in all of his work like a week early, is the model student, quiet as hell in class but dude he knows his worth. He sits so still and so quiet you almost don’t see him and you kinda think he’s probably dead. BUt then he notices you staring and smiles softly at you and you almost die because sHIT SHIT HE CAUGHT YOU STARING but also he’s so pretty how dare.

Juzu takes really good care of himself. He most likely volunteers at the library and helps old people walk across the street. actually that is something i’ve thought of a bit... like i personally don’t always agree with the ~body positivity~ movement since i don’t think claiming “everyone is beautiful” is productive, since it implies looks are important and being beautiful is an asset that determines your worth as a person... i’m ugly as all hell and telling me otherwise just tells me you’re lying or you’re blind - whereas telling me it’s okay since it has no importance whatsoever makes me feel better, because at this point my looks are nothing i can really change that much and i don’t want to. shit like plastic surgery is expensive, can be dangerous if not done properly (sometimes even when done properly), and further feeds into the misogynist and capitalist lie that we need to be beautiful and if we’re not we need to pay for it.

It was seriously fucked up of her to use his feelings for her against him and just- Ugh, that shit really grinds my gears and pisses me off because I’ve been in Naruto’s shoes before in a situation like that with someone. I also hated how she STILL pined over Sasuke and ENDED UP WITH HIM???? Honestly, I don’t think Sasuke should have gotten with anyone and that’s because he does not seem emotionally ready/available to be in a (healthy) relationship, NOT because I don’t like him and I think he doesn’t deserve happiness. But anyways, I digress. I know that looks aren’t the most important things buuuuuut Studio Pierrot really made her look bad. Not only does she look more badass in the manga, but she actually has decent sex appeal. The only reason I bring that up specifically is because a LOT of people like to compare her to Ino and Hinata and make fun of her flat chest. I feel like it’s also worth mentioning, that anytime Sasuke was around or even mentioned, she turned into a babbling idiot, which is probably her biggest downfall to me

Now, on to why I like her

Sakura is the strongest NORMAL person in the world of Naruto, whether you want to believe it or not. Naruto and Sasuke are literal GODS. Even if they are reincarnations, they’re still gods. Of course Sakura is going to be useless compared to them. BUT compare her to other characters and she’s def stronger than them. She has surpassed her teacher, Tsunade, who was one of the Legendary Sannin. She’s also much stronger than Kakashi, who was a child prodigy and jonin at the age of thirteen. She also was also able to nearly go toe-to-toe with a member of the Akatsuki. I know she had help from Lady Chiyo, but she still did well, all things considered. Deidara has also stated previously that Sasori was stronger than him, so with that in consideration, she would have probably been able to beat him on her own and possibly several other members of the Akatsuki

anyways my Musings on rian and winston’s dynamique in 5x06.......

first and foremost it’s truly wild that there wasn’t at least one more scene ft. either of them in this episode. that felt like Setup that like, i’m sure will be more Followed Through On in the next episode, but also really easily could’ve (and i think should’ve lol) been also followed up on in this episode......it really just doesn’t feel like yea we can just leave things at that for this week!! but we did

anyways like yeah @arabellaturner3 was saying how maybe winston wants to Impress rian here but natch it’s combining with some jealousy maybe, b/c even if [the glances] happened, rian was still meant by one person to Replace him and it’s probably not easy to drop any sense of like, comparing yourselves and feeling like you’re positioned like anything she can do is a Challenge or implicitly understood by others to be her being Better than you or whatever......a little weird to just be back in this quasirivalry territory after last week seemed to have that over with by the end of Day 1 lol, but still makes sense / understandable i Suppose........and really i think they could just enjoy talking math shit together truly if not for this lingering contention lmao.......

like i said winston silently looking over at rian for a moment before talking to her while looking at his computer is Funny and we love an implication of “i might be paying attention to you at a particular moment in which i’m also trying to act like i’m not really paying attention to you”......while rian’s just completely rolling with this lol no moment of giving him a Look like “what are you doing weirdo” or w/e

and this hardly seemed too heated or saturated w/ any genuine antipathy, just a bit of pettiness here, and while they’re indulging said pettiness they’re both exercising Some restraint about it all. like, seems like rian finds him fun to interact with still, and like this is akin to her calling him a douche last episode lmao where it was a little lingering + her looking at him, like that was also just her wanting to get a reaction out of him there. and she’s also sure like, deliberately prodding him a bit in this exchange lmao but also not exactly like either of them are out for blood here and willing to just escalate this w/o limit, more like they both want each other’s attention and want to interact and this isn’t really about winston thinking that what rian does is like, redundant / irrelevant / insignificant or whatever, or rian thinking that winston is in turn useless or incapable or whatever, like yeah they might wanna prove their mathematical / Ideas capability to each other b/c they Were just basically pitted as competitors five minutes ago (in 5x05 lol) but also it’s just like. seems like they’re both just needling each other a bit and the “argument” here is somewhat beside the point

b/c i mean, i’m sure Average Billions Viewers will continue to take [saying anything negative about winston] at face value as Factual / accurate, and while i guess winston brought up what he did for taylor last episode b/c that’s the only thing rian was present for, that’s probably the only thing billions viewers will remember either l o l. but even if he did only bring it Once, say, when he singlehandedly did the work of 50 phds apparently and crafted a market-crushing algorithm for taylor which allowed mase cap to exist in the first place and thus for mase carb to exist (not to mention how the nlp stuff he did paid off And also led fairly directly to mase carb, so) and like, that was Also when he thought he was working for taylor under axe cap and was alone in a semifurnished basement nigh the whole time, so that ability And willingness to do that kind of huge project to that caliber is like, yeah if that was still the only Especial Thing he’d done ever, it’d still be worth keeping him on truly lol. and like, something like that sure is Valuable and yet not Simple (i mean idk maybe his coding is really Elegant, who can say lmao)........but also i doubt rian was just truly like arguing about pasteurization and stuff b/c like, this isn’t either of them bringing their best epic debate skills here, they just kinda Want to elbow each other here and will maybe ramp up their own arguments a bit to do so...........but yeah the point is more about them like, not really wanting to leave each other alone vs what they might be saying in the course of doing so, though natch what they’re saying does seem to establish like this feeling of competition / rivalry, but even that is hardly that Unrestrained, rian’s still got this vibe of more messing with him than feeling any real animosity, while winston’s maybe not just filled with happiness here but also would probably be fine with it all if wendy hadn’t just been considering winston disposable and rian his replacement (and ostensibly taylor as well, which like, even w/ the Glance can’t be fun to have that be the idea that’s Out There rn)........and he’s hardly acting like he’s just outright seething either, just Also wanting to interact but also not exactly being thrilled with the fact that she’s supposedly the superior option here, and where yeah like maybe a mixture of “hey i’m also good at math :)” and “hey i’m also good at math >:(” lmao like, this is all a bit messy

i still sure wouldn’t call this Intense, Horrible, or Passionate lmao, aaand i guess 5x07 is the only thing which could change that, since 5x08 wasn’t even written, much less filmed........like, i’m guessing that the Simmering Tension set up here will be built on in the next episode, and idk, maybe they’ll be arguing harder, maybe they’ll be striving to show each other up, who knows, and yeah i’m still pretending my expectations are just “ep 7 will not leave us off on any kind of satisfactory point with these two and let’s say winston will only ever be engaged in one-sided pining” but i think we could get to kissing in just two scenes. or fuck it, even One scene, but two is more likely, and it’s reasonable to think they could have two scenes. and same as last week i guess there’s the worry that anything that happens could Really be a disaster which makes us regret these two having a dynamic of any kind at all lmao, but i think it could be a bit of A Hot Mess of this tension / rivalry bubbling over and still like, not be 100% unfortunate lol........this is billions, this situation is so far absolutely Not at all that bad

anyways yeah lol seems like they’re both just gently nudging each other for Attention even if it’s not heartwarming at this juncture.....it’s also sure not all that deeply bitter or caustic and it feels a lot closer to Messing With Each Other territory than it does like, fighting b/c they hate each other or anything.......dialed-back bickering that dies off after 12 seconds is not the most foreboding thing, and neither is the idea that these two get off to a messy start (and could continue to), but fingers crossed still..........that Developments of greater significance happen next episode and that they aren’t a nightmare. the low bar we have to have with this series i s2g. billions Please
