♡ To say the saniwa is taken care of while sick is an understatement. The TosaGumi boys rarely leave their side while they are very sick.

♡ Nankaitarou a practiced medical profession being the true savior with two bickering idiots by his side.

♡ "Aruji! I brought a bunch of meat for you to eat and get stronger!" "Mutsu, shut up. You're being loud and annoying!" "Hizen, Mutsunokami. Please. Our patient needs rest. Lower your voices."

♡ Nankaitarou goes the extra mile taking care of saniwa. He would take their temperature every day, make sure they take their medicine to help lower their fever, always make sure they have some tea during the day to help with the hoarse throat, and changing the ice pack on their forehead.

♡ He would probably go as far as doing blood-work to extra examine the poor saniwa but he knows that stress would not help them so he doesn't put them through that as well.

♡ Nankaitarou doesn't sleep much. He didn't before and he sure doesn't now. Very rarely does Mutsu and Hizen take over for him so he can rest.

♡ Saniwa will quickly get used to his eyes, with dark bags underneath them, staring down at them with a small smile as they exclaim; "Ah, your complexion is much better today! You will be healthy soon enough!"

♡ If they were stronger they might comment back, "Nankaitarou, you are the one that looks like they are about to faint now-"

♡ Nankaitarou kicks out the other TosaGumi boys quite often, much to them arguing about it. He really can't win. They either argue inside the room or outside in the hall for everyone to hear.

♡ With saniwa's fever being so bad, he often has to change the sheets and their clothing. Washing their skin with cool water to help clean them somehow.

♡ He tries very hard to not make them uncomfortable with these acts. Often giving them fabric to cover themselves so he just focuses on the parts of the skin they can't clean easily themselves and always turning away when they dress themselves. He only stays in the room to make sure they don't faint from the heavy fever.

♡ When they become well enough, he has the boys fetch plenty of bath scrubs and create a bubble bath for them to clean themselves and relax.

♡ He still stays in the main room just in case anything goes wrong he can rush into the bathroom but he knows they need their privacy just as much as anyone.

♡ Mutsunokami is a lovable idiot. Some say this man has never got sick because he is so carefree!

♡ So taking care of saniwa is not exactly his strength.

♡ He is always around though. Telling them stories of what is going on in the citadel. The funny stories. The stories of him causing trouble only for the saniwa to tiredly shake their head at him.

♡ He brings them movies to watch together, even if he is fully aware that they will not stay awake for the full of it. He wants them to have someone beside them and be the right-hand man if they need anything.

♡ If saniwa's fever is making them very cold, he will offer to cuddle with them since he is a heater of body heat.

♡ His arms would wrap around them as they rest their head on his chest. The soft motion of stroking the back of their head as they relax, and him faintly humming the song his previous master always used to sing. Only for their breath to steady and they can fall asleep.

♡ Mutsunokami also happens to fall asleep with them. No way is he going to move and wake them on accident!

♡ ...He may get sick after this event.

♡ Hizen is similar to Mutsunokami where he isn't too aware how to care from someone.

♡ His past life was one of a killer and a poor one at that. If someone gets sick, they have a very high chance of dying.

♡ Seeing Saniwa very sick makes him an anxious mess and the main reason he never wants to leave their side.

♡ He doesn't want to look away for a second and not catch them struggling to take their breaths.

♡ He may not know for sure what to do but he has the right spirit.

♡ Everyday they wake up, they will see a snack beside them. Only to doze off again and awake to a new pile of snacks.

♡ Where is he stealing all these??

♡ Hizen knows that food makes him happy so surely that will help healing them. They can't starve if he keeps putting snacks by them.

♡ He may steal some books as well to entertain them. Which swords lost books that day, the world may never know-

♡ Saniwa internally has to remind themselves to tell Hizen to return these items after they get better... But will he remember who he even took these from?

♡ Hizen isn't the biggest reader so it is a big mystery if he even knew what he was picking up to entertain them.

♡ Hizen has a bit of trouble reading but Saniwa asking him to read them to sleep will make him try to. Even if they grumble about it.

♡ They will hear him sounding out words and trying very hard to read out loud fluently. Although it is a bit hard to understand sometimes, it is flattering to hear them try so hard for them.

He honestly probably doesn’t even notice anything at first

You’re his master and that’s that. He doesn’t think too much about it; regardless of your appearance, that’s the truth

It takes him a while to connect the dots; he can tell that there’s something bothering you, but he can’t figure out what it is

Until he actually puts things together, he’s going to pester you to either find out what’s bothering you or to try and see what he can do to help  

As he can be a bit dense, it may take some interference from the other swords to get him to tone it down a bit, especially if your low assessment of yourself has you feeling like you’re not in a position to say anything about it

Once he does take a step back though, he watches you a bit more carefully and discerns that you don’t think too highly of yourself

He immediately wants to know why you feel that way about yourself because he wants to help you

Izumi, brash as he can be, decides to charge in immediately to try and help you, whether it’s refuting negative statements you make about yourself or praising you when you’ve done well, along with awkward consolation when you’re feeling down about something

It’s a bit over-the-top, and maybe a bit intimidating if you’re on the shyer side, but it’s clear he means well and his heart is in the right place

He tries to build you up in his own way and regardless of whether his intended goal is reached, you can’t help but smile at his earnest attempts to have you value yourself, even if just a little more

Horikawa Kunihiro

He notices that something is bothering you and is able to figure out fairly quickly that you have a low self-esteem

It takes him a little longer to realize what might be the root of your low evaluation of yourself, but once he has an idea of what might be the cause, he’ll naturally work on helping you see yourself in a better light

He tries to help build you up by complimenting you on things that aren’t related to the reason you think so little of yourself

In doing so he hopes you can become confident in other respects, and will work on building you up from what he hopes is a solid starting point

He’s more methodical than Izuminokami is and has a plan to loosely follow; he just wants you to see yourself as a worthy person, because in his eyes (and many of the other swords as well) you already are worthy as you are

Basically from that he goes to addressing your insecurities and helping you be more confident

It’s a slow process whose progress isn’t always steady, but his support for you is unwavering and

He earnestly hopes that you’ll be able to work through your insecurities, but wouldn’t force you to if you aren’t ready to face that quite yet

If you aren’t prepared to undertake the task of addressing your insecurities, then he’ll encourage you and try to lend you the strength to approach things slowly

He knows he can’t fix your issues for you, but at the very least, when the times comes when you must say your final farewell, he hopes that you will remember him and that you’ll continue to push forward, even if he’s no longer by your side

Although he insists on not getting along with anyone, it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t pay attention to the people that are around him

You’re no exception to this observation and despite his tendencies to push others away, picks up fairly quickly that you’re not all too confident in yourself or your abilities

He tells himself that it doesn’t matter and at first he’s not bothered about it. He’s aware that not everyone is going to be self-assured and reasons that it could be a number of things, such as anxiety with regards to being unfamiliar with war

But as time passes he notices that there are times you have good days and bad days, noting that you’re trying to get past whatever it is that’s holding you back

If he’s being honest with himself, it upsets him to a degree, as you’re the master, so you should be more confident in yourself

But Ookurikara isn’t an asshole about it

He’s more roundabout it than any of the aforementioned swords, telling you that you should have more faith in yourself, as all of the swords of the citadel put their faith in you; they’ve all stood by your side all this time, after all

He doesn’t realize that he’s implied that he also believes in you until after the words are already out of his mouth, but he means what he said

Honestly his words come off a bit harsh and sound more like a scolding than comfort or advice, and he really doesn’t know how to help, but he does think you should take pride in what you have accomplished so far

Hasebe is not a worrywart.

His concern for Sayo when the tantou got hurt was because of his duty as the attendant. His consistent monitoring of the citadel funds is because of his duty as the attendant. Everything he does, from basic chores to combat in different eras is all because of his duty as the saniwa’s most trusted sword.

That’s all there is to it. He is only doing what someone like him is expected to do. Surely the same applies to what he’s doing now: accompanying you on your routine walk around the citadel because you asked. That is all. Heshikiri Hasebe does not act on personal feelings; he does what is asked of him, but if it concerns your safety…

He stops in his tracks, warmth rising to his cheeks and painting his skin in a rosy hue.

Is he—no, that can’t be. He’s loyal. Yes, that’s it. He’s loyal to you and will always come when you call for him. It is the greatest honour of all, dare he say even higher than what he’d done all the way back during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Surely his heart palpitations as he watches you laugh and smile with the younger swords is from the honour of seeing you with your guard down. Surely the way it’s as if the world has stopped when your gaze meets his is from shock.

“Hasebe, stop standing there and come join us,” you say, your voice soft and affectionate. “The tiger cubs are especially playful today.”

“Ah, I must respectfully decline… It is not my place to—”

“We’re at the citadel, Hasebe. It’s alright.” There’s an amused expression on your features and he can’t really pinpoint what has you so mirthful. Is it him? Pleasing you is his highest desire… Are you acknowledging his efforts?

Wait, what is he thinking?!

“No one can hurt us.”

“But…”

Shokudaikiri casts him a smug glance. “Fool.”

“You—!”

“If Master says it’s fine, then it’s fine,” he chuckles. “Are you declining their wish of spending time with you?”

“Of course not…!” Hasebe clears his throat. “I wouldn’t even dream of doing such a thing!”

“What’s taking you so long?” Your question is drawn out into an exaggerated whine, catching his attention once again. “Are you really going to work when I’ve given you all the day off?”

Hasebe glares at Shokudaikiri, though it must only be hilarious to the other sword if the smirk on his lips is saying anything. He parts his lips to speak, only to be pushed in your general direction by quite a strong force.

“Go, you lovestruck fool.”

Torn between telling him off and making his way to you as soon as possible, he stands frozen in his spot as his face grows even warmer. Clearing his throat once again (and huffing at Shokudaikiri to hide his flustered state), he finally walks towards where you are.

The tantou seem especially affectionate today, not just the tiger cubs. Imanotsurugi is laying his head on your lap while Taikogane talks to you animatedly. These are his comrades, his brothers-in-arms, yet he can’t help but feel… envious that they have your full attention like that. You called for him; didn’t you need him? Just as his thoughts are about to run rampant, you beam up at him, your eyes glimmering in the sunlight.

…Just what was he thinking of again?

Ah, it’s not of any importance now, he supposes. After all, you’re already patting the empty spot next to you and urging him to sit down. In such close proximity, too… Not that he doubts you (he could never), but do you even realise how much you always seem to break him?!

As much as he hates to admit it, maybe Shokudaikiri isn’t that far off. Maybe there is more to his unrivalled care and loyalty for you. Well, in any case, he’ll… think about it afterwards. You’ve asked for his company, so in return, he’ll give you his full undivided attention. And regain his composure.

It all started about a few days ago. A good friend of yours who owns their own shop specializing in male kimonos had asked for your help. They practically begged you to have the swords under your care to try out and model for the new summer yukata that they had in stock. They emphasized the point that your swords, as good-looking as they are, would be able to attract some attention from potential customers.

You were a bit hesitant, in truth. The way your friend phrased it, it seemed like they wanted to capitalize on your toudans and use them for the sole purpose of increasing sales. You figured that the ones underneath your care wouldn’t mind it so much, but you weren’t sure how you felt about exploiting them for their looks.

“Just so you know,” your friend started, picking up on your hesitation. “There’s this one yukata that would be perfect on Taroutachi. It’s very sleek and elegant, and I’m sure it’ll bring out his beauty well.”

That piqued your interest, as ashamed as you were to admit it, and you mentally cursed your friend for knowing you so well.

“Admittedly, it might not fit him, but I would be more than happy to have it specifically tailored so that he could model it… maybe even for you.” The words that spilled from your friend’s mouth were enticing, and their waggled eyebrows and devious smirk made your resolve waver.

“Sold.”

Now that you’re standing in front of the Citadel and surrounded by many of the tantou and wakizashi who are eager to show off their new clothes to you, you realize that you may have made a good decision back then despite your initial hesitation. Everybody seemed satisfied with their kimono and excitedly wanted to show you. Everybody looks so cute, you can’t help but fawn over each and every single one of them.

That being the case, however, your eyes not so discreetly scan the area in search of a certain oodachi that had captured your heart. Since he’s rather tall, there’s no way you can miss him if he were nearby, so when you aren't able to find him, your expression drops by a fraction. He was the one you were most looking forward to, after all.

As though sensing your plight, Tsurumaru approaches you from behind and taps your shoulder. When you turn around to look at him, he gives you a knowing grin before pointing in the opposite direction of where you were previously looking.

Your eyes instantly widen when Taroutachi makes his entrance, all clad in probably one of the most beautiful kimono you have ever seen. Well, frankly, you aren’t sure if it’s the kimono or the man himself that’s exemplifying the other’s beauty.

You excuse yourself from the others and make your way over to the oodachi as fast as your short legs can carry you. “Taroutachi!”

The man who was previously looking down at the ground in embarrassment looks up immediately at the familiar sound of your voice cheerfully calling out his name. You skid to a full stop just in front of him, your cheeks flushed and eyes shining with pure admiration. You look him over once and clasp your hands together in earnest awe.

“You look amazing!” Your compliment falls from your lips with ease, your voice clear and sincere.

“Thank you…” He murmurs, his cheeks tinged with a hint of pink.

Your grin widens at his bashful nature, and you continue to fawn over him. The black and red colours look absolutely lovely on him and brings out his features well. Despite his unnaturally tall stature, the kimono fits Taroutachi's build wonderfully, and you can’t help but feel impressed at your friend’s tailoring skills.

Without even realizing it, you start to circle around Taroutachi and take in his appearance from each and every single angle, all the while continuing to praise him. Since you seem to be quite enthusiastic about this, Taroutachi manages to keep himself still and allow you to carry on as you are, but your eager gaze and endless praise intensifies the blush he's so desperately trying to hold back.

Eventually, you find yourself standing before him once more, and you tilt your head to the side. “Can you lean down a bit for me?” you ask with a timid smile. “I want to see the details on the yukata up close.”

He does as requested, bending forward to a more reasonable height for you to properly see and appreciate the finer details and stitchwork of the attire. You’re so engrossed in gushing over the outfit that you miss the way Taroutachi’s eyes stare at you with a soft and fond gaze, his heart thumping madly against his chest at the excited and cheerful look on your face. He would be lying if he said he wasn’t a bit embarrassed to put on the yukata at first, but seeing you like this makes it all the worthwhile.

Soon enough, you bring yourself to look back up, and you realize your face is relatively level with Taroutachi's and close to yours. It's something you weren't expecting to see after being so caught up in admiring him and his outfit, and a squeak of surprise leaves your lips. The oodachi chuckles underneath his breath, the melodious sound making your heart skip a beat. He straightens himself back up to his full height, but not before moving to kiss your cheek, then your forehead, and then the top of your head.

You've pretty much stopped functioning at this point, the small and light kisses he gave you making heat rise all the way to the tips of your ears and making your mind shut down. Taroutachi seems amused, an elegant smile on his face yet with a hint of mischief dancing behind his eyes. He bends down once more to around your level, and his arms wrap themselves around your smaller figure. With great ease, he lifts you up, prompting yet another squeal to escape you from the sudden and unexpected action.

Taroutachi lifts you up until your face is level with his, and his expression shows no sign of his intention in letting you down any time soon. With that same graceful smile painted on his lips, he endearingly tilts his head to the side, and the corner of his eyes crinkle with joy. "How about it? Do you think I look just as good from this angle?"

In all honesty, it takes you a moment to answer as you're too much of a flustered mess. You nod your head, bashful as you wrap your arms around his neck and bury your face in the crook of his neck to hide your embarrassment. "You do," you tell him. "You absolutely look lovely from this angle."

People are not generous with comments, so honestly I'm not sure. I'm good at getting in the characters head. Thinking with their head, feeling with their heart. Though I never published those ones before, but I really should try and see what people are thinking about them. So far I got encouraging responses privately <3

I feel that language barrier often gets in my way and I just don't have the adequate vocabulary or grammar knowledge to express things.

Sure, why not, it has it's role. It gives the feeling of diversity. Just make sure you put the meaning in the notes or hide the meaning in the context somewhere in the fic.

It must’ve been three or four weeks since Shokudaikiri left the citadel for his training excursion. An exhausting process, but one that was worth it all. He felt stronger, wiser, and most importantly, more reliable to his dear saniwa.

It wasn’t your first time sending off the swords and being without them for a while. Every once in a while, you’d be approached by one of them asking for permission to go on a journey. Ever the supportive one, you’d always say yes and make sure to tell them how proud you were of them before they left. You weren’t quite obligated to send them off yourself, but that was just the kind of person you were.

Shokudaikiri smiled fondly as he remembered how you were teary-eyed watching the tantou leave. He teased you for not doing the same for him and you playfully shooed him, unable to hold back your giggles. He wondered how you’d been doing in his absence. He sent you letters, but with his wandering, you couldn’t respond. It wasn’t quite the same as getting to be close to you, which was why he felt more motivated today—he’d be returning home.

With a flash, he was back on the grounds of the citadel. It took a while to readjust to the sudden change in lighting, but as the world came back to clarity, he could see his brothers and comrades rushing to greet the returning swords. He wasn’t the first one back. That was fine, he supposed. He wasn’t the most competitive, especially for the mundane.

Your expression was bright and loving as you approached the pavilion, noticeably excited for their returns. He stepped forward, ready to tell you all about his journey and how he missed you, but his smile soon dropped when you approached Taikogane first.

Shokudaikiri was about to wonder if you were mad at him for something. Surely he was consistent in sending you letters, sometimes a souvenir from his travels if he found something you liked. Was it something he did before he left? That couldn’t be. You were open with him.

You flashed him a cheeky grin, and all of his worries dissipated.

Ah, that was your game.

With your usual team away on their respective excursions, as were your most trusted confidants, which meant that you’d spent time with others outside your usual circle. He found it endearing how you always tried to form a bond with all of the swords. You didn’t see them as tools; to you, they were people, they were your friends. You treated all of them as your equals, even though you were their master. The tantou’s playfulness must’ve rubbed off on you somehow.

Relieved that you weren’t upset, he watched as you went down the line one by one until you were finally in front of him. You had your arms crossed over your chest, biting back a smile as you told him, “You’re late.”

“And you greeted the others before me,” he said, feigning offence and sadness in his tone. “Was I mistaken in believing I was your favourite?”

You rolled your eyes playfully. You went quiet as if you were thinking of what to say next, only to break that silence with cheerful laughter as you threw yourself in his arms. Shokudaikiri responded to the gesture in kind, wrapping them around your frame and gently rocking the both of you from side to side. You pulled away with a content sigh, much to his chagrin. Still, he couldn’t help but respond to your happiness with love, warmth blossoming in his chest.

He was finally home.

To answer your question - yes, in fact, i've written something for Touken Ranbu! A looong time ago, and it's only available in my ao3. It's the first fic I've ever published online - I was just getting into ikeseries (and Napoleon) and I figured if I'm going to try my hand at fanfiction, I might as well test the waters with a small idea I've had in my head for awhile. It's a song fic, half of the 700 words are the lyrics of the song haha! It's an angsty IchiMika fic with the song Blue Velvet.

Since then, I've been having vague fic ideas for x reader fics, but I never committed to any of them. Recently it was my 8th saniwa anniversary, so I made a post on there asking people to give me ideas for a tourabu fic! There were no responses, and then writer's block struck, so nothing happened in the end...

And now that I've received your ask, the urge has been awakened again 😭 I want to write something with Tomoe!! I'm thinking of a fluffy smut with f!saniwa, with a bit of size difference? Ahh!! I want to abandon all my current wips I'm trying to finish until the end of the year and write this instead....
