Yk, I hate that adaptations keep making Peter a high schooler, and not just because it means he never evolves, but because the adaptations now also include wider Marvel, whitch usually (thanks to the MCU) is at the modern day stage with legacy characters and new age teen heroes, meaning that Peter is taking up Miles' spot and you can really tell when they put him next to someone like Kamala Khan or Sam Alexander who are Miles' pals. Tho Peter taking Miles' stuff is just a modern issue overall, just look at MCU whitch just stole and re-skinned Miles' personality, characters, story-beats, even the costume to an extent and then made it worse.

Once upon a time there was a mage who lived in a tower. She was powerful, and the templars fear nothing more than power. To test her will, she was sent into a world of strange horrors and strange wonders, the one you see each night in your dreams. She followed the path that the Fade set before her feet, and upon that path, she found a kindly mouse.

With the mouse at her side, she faced many dangers. A spirit of valour challenged her to a duel, and she defeated it. Wolves of the Fade bit at her heels, and she gathered the mouse in her hands to protect it from their fangs. She wished for the mouse to be stronger, for it was only a weak creature, and of little help to a talented mage. In exchange for answers to its riddles three, a demon of sloth taught the mouse to take the form of a mighty bear. Now they could face her test together. They could not fail.

That was her pride.

She thought she had passed the test, and returned to the world, leaving her tower to do great things. But true tests never end. When she came back to the tower, it was broken, and there were so few of the children left to cry. Her father The First Enchanter could not be found. The bodies were everywhere. Flesh bound the walls. A demon captured her, and sent her to the Fade once more. Her friends vanished, and in her despair, there came the mouse. He had been waiting. He had always known a day would come of greater need, when the mage’s own power would fail her. A better time to bargain.

Only his aid could free her form to change as he did, to slip through the gaps and escape this prison. His aid, and her blood, to bind them forever. The mage agreed The mage failed The world needed The mage knew it would be worth it if

As I transcribe the Love and Legends routes, it's interesting having this very thorough dive into each route and the differences in their writing.

One thing that makes Iseul's route stand out from the others is how it uses its extended cast. So far, it rarely uses the Witch Queen or generals (Alain and Helena have had a handful of lines, and Magnus and Lennox haven't even shown up) and instead uses Reiner, the retainers, or Iseul's family as antagonists. While Jinhai acts as the inciting incident, the actual conflicts stem from Iseul feeling confined by Reiner and the others, Iseul feeling compared to Imohn, or Iseul and the MC not having Ishara's blessing.

It creates a strange emotional distance between Iseul, MC, and their allies. They can't be a source of comfort in the same way because every time they interact, the focus is on whatever argument or emotional conflict the season is focusing on.

I think one of Love and Legend's greatest strengths is its cast. Every other route really makes me believe these characters are friends with deep histories and extended relationships, especially Iseul. It's kind of a shame his own route makes me believe he doesn't even like the others. He and the MC seem like they'd be happier keeping to themselves.

The theme of Iseul's route is struggling with responsibility and the ease of being selfish vs considering other people, but I wish I could be more sympathetic whenever they sacrifice the happiness and safety of everyone else for the sake of their own desires.

In some ways I like that the plot is less intense and focused on personal struggles, similar to Helena's, but Helena's route had an easy excuse for why the cast would be antagonistic and they're still contrasted against the generals for being a more comforting presence. I feel like they either needed to focus on Jinhai and the generals triggering the conflict between Iseul, MC, and the others, or to better establish why there's so much aggression.

slay the princess fun fact 1: there are two different possible ways to get both broken and stubborn in the fury - one from the tower and one from the adversary! however these two routes, despite being the same chapter with the same voices, are completely different - there are no endings that are the same between them :)
