I headcanon that Quax (my Quaquaval) and Char (my Armarouge) love to jokingly bring up the time Rose (their trainer) took 5 attempts just to beat Eri (because I really wanted to match how I did it in Violet). Often they’ll tell newcomers to the team that Rose is friendly and gets on with everyone to some extent except that one time he was completely unprepared and seemingly also underlevelled (I think most of them fainted several times per battle so their friendship will have gone down significantly. Quax and Char are the only ones from my party during that time that continue to be in my party now)
Sadly I don’t think there was any major event in the Violet main game where Spriggie and Char would have a similar memory (I mean maybe the training for rematching Ryme but Char wasn’t in my party then. Also I only took two attempts with Ryme in Violet as opposed to taking five attempts with Eri in Scarlet)

Hello! Hi! I am deep diving hard in the little nightmares lore and I think I’ve scrolled though most of your blog now (lol). There are still a few things I’m confused about and can’t seem to find…
The north wind, What is it? What powers does it have? Why is it so strong?
The lords, who are they? Do they govern this wrapped world? Do they ever convene with one another?
The eye, is it one big eye? Or is it a realm beyond the no where? Does it control all the other eyes that we see in the games?
If this is too much feel free to ignore it! Sorry to ask so much stuff (I am genuinely trying to make sense of it all) ps. I absolutely adore everything you have in this blog!!
Reading this made me realize that there’s a couple things i just haven’t explained anywhere.
Tumblr media
The following is a mix of headcanons and actual (vague) lore.
1: The North Wind.
The North Wind is a monster found in one of the two official Little Nightmares Comics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the story, the North Wind is a formless entity, being the wind itself, although he is shown to be capable of making himself a humanoid shaped body deep within the storm that he is, probably forming the shape of a person using dust and debris he’s picked up.
He’s shown making a wager with the Ferryman (which I now believe is “who can pull this child fully into the Nowhere first” or something similar) and given how he calls the Ferryman a Cheat, he’s probably done a similar thing with him many times before.
He’s also one of 3 entities that acknowledges the Ferryman’s existence, the other two being The Mall from the podcast, who recognizes the Ferryman and begs him not to take Noone, and the Lady, who the Ferryman works for.
Besides his ability to literally strip things to the bone with nothing but wind and his own control over it, the mere fact that the North Wind can both casually wager with the Ferryman and the fact the the Ferryman often needs to cheat to win against him shows that the North Wind is equally as powerful or at least very close in power to the Ferryman (and also the Lady).
As for WHY the North Wind is so powerful, I think it’s because of the same reason that the Ferryman is so powerful, but I’ll get into that in a bit.
2: Lords.
First off: All inhabited areas of Nowhere have some sort of Vice or Obsession related to it. A thing that most, if not all of the inhabitants are obsessed with. The Pale City had Escapism and TVs, wherever Guests come from (and by extension the Maw, which is a restaurant that serves these people, not their original home) has food and hunger, etc.
(The Nest is an exception. It doesn’t have any sort of Vice because it’s only inhabited by three people, not counting the Lady whenever she presumably stays there, and doesn’t have the population or resources or anything to sustain any kind of obsession. Sure the Pretender has her dolls, but that’s more of a “spoil this kid rotten” thing than an addiction)
A Lord is basically just my word for “Any creature that controls a given area or vice of the Nowhere”. Meaning The Lady, The Broadcaster (not the Thin Man, but a separate being. I got a whole theory post on that), and if you take the Podcast into account, The Chained Woman, Living Mall and Ventriloquist. Along with any other rulers of the Nowhere we haven’t seen yet or even will never see.
Also included in this list are The North Wind, Ferryman and Signal Tower Flesh Walls. They don’t truly control any real areas (unless you count the North Wind tearing his way through the wilderness) but their power and influence is too great to really ignore, especially since out of the three of them, two work directly together with other Lords in ways that other minions simply can’t. The Ferryman works for the Lady alongside dragging kids into Nowhere to begin with, bringing them to either the Maw or the Nest depending on what the Lady needs. The Flesh Walls aid the Broadcaster in his control over the Pale City, helping spread the Transmission by literally being the Transmission Tower. I’d even argue that for the Ferryman and Flesh Walls, helping the Lady and Broadcaster respectively is more of a beneficial partnership than working under them, especially for the Flesh Walls.
Lords are also the entities that can pull children into the Nowhere, although some do it far more than others and as such are more experienced. For example: The Ferryman, North Wind, Living Mall and Flesh Walls.
(Also while I’m on the topic, I fully believe that Noone’s dream in Ep 3 of the Podcast is essentially an unplanned, forced detour for Noone’s Nowhere Tour, with the Living Mall being the thing that pulls her in this time instead of the Ferryman, which is why the Ferryman ends up taking her away from the Mall at the end instead of just letting her do whatever until she wakes up again. This would explain not only why the Ferryman actually helped Noone during her escape from the Mall, pointing at her necklace and gesturing for her to take it off before offering Noone his hand to escape (which brings to mind the North Wind comic, where the Ferryman does the exact same gesture to the Refugee Boy to take him away from the North Wind), an action we never him do before or after episode 3 when Noone is in danger, but also why the Mall got incredibly distressed and angry at the Ferryman when he showed up. The Mall pulled Noone in themselves this time, and the Ferryman had to show up to make sure his target didn’t get caught by different Lord before he could take her.)
Lords are the most powerful creatures found in the Nowhere, often possessing incredible power and uniquely, more humanlike intelligence and qualities. Adults in the Nowhere are more often than not mindless child killers who simply do their job or keep up with their obsession or vice (the Teacher teaching, the Hunter hunting, Viewers being addicted to the Transmission, etc) and completely LOSE IT when they see a child, gunning straight for it with the intent to kill unless something even more important (usually Obsession related) happens to stop them. It’s shown that some non-Lords can resist these child-killing urges with some practice like the Thin Man refusing to actually harm Six when he grabs her (although he did still leave Six to be corrupted in the Tower) and the Butler being able to look after the Pretender, who is a child, but this seems to be the exception. Especially since in all cases of this happening, there’s a reason for it. The Thin Man can still recognize Six, The Butler doesn’t harm the Pretender because she’s the Lady’s daughter, who the Butler works for and fears for VERY good reason, the Hunter didn’t kill Six immediately because he wanted to either cook or taxidermy her at a later date, etc
Meanwhile Lords have been seen completely ignoring any sort of child killing urge or compulsion easily. The Lady looked after anywhere from 2 to 6 children and is the one that trained the Butler to not attack her children in the first place, the Living Mall is extremely possessive, but doesn’t appear to have any real intentions of harming Noone, just wanting to keep her happy so she won’t leave them to be alone again and even begs her not to go further into the Nowhere for her own safety and even the Ferryman, despite his constant kidnapping of children in and out of Nowhere, never resorts to outright harming them or chasing them down like a wild animal like some other adults.
The Ferryman especially is a good example of this. Instead of chasing and snatching up any child he sees or mindlessly chasing one no matter the cost or killing them immediately upon capture, the Ferryman usually manipulates kids into giving themselves up nonviolently and is extremely persistent in doing so, stalking targets for YEARS if he has to in order to manipulate them or to wait for them to get into a position to be manipulated. He does tie up Six when bringing her to the Maw, but even prior to that he doesn’t chase Six down or harm her in order to capture her. He simply finds Six and points at her, causing every adult nearby to also point and make noises at her (possibly showing that the Ferryman has some sort of control or commanding power over Adults, just like some other lords we see), which overwhelms Six to the extent that she just curls up and tries to block out the noise, and after that the Ferryman presumably just walked over and took her without resistance, avoiding any sort of chase or fight entirely.
This isn’t to say that Lords won’t attack children or will treat them with any sort of kindness, the Lady will kill any intruders she can find and the North Wind seems to seriously enjoy killing things, making a whole game out of it with the Ferryman, but what I’m saying is that they’re able to resist those natural child-killing instincts if they ever want or need to. If a Lord kills a child, it’s because they want to, not because they need to. And boy do they often want to.
They’re also noticeably more aware and intelligent than typical adults. For the best example of this, compare the Maw and Signal Tower to any other adult in complexity.
Every year at the same time, but never in the same place, the Maw shows up, brings guests aboard and lets them eat endless amounts of delicious food and meat, only to later kill all of the guests aboard to feed the Lady with their souls.
The Signal Tower keeps producing the Signal by using a time loop. The loop is initially set up when the Broadcaster finds Mono, a child with signal powers, and attacks the Pale City Orphanage that he’s living in. The two meet, something we don’t get to see happens and Mono ends up in the forest outside the city, most likely coming out of one of the TVs there. Then Mono meets Six and the two journey through the Pale City. The actual loop begins when Mono releases the Thin Man, who kidnaps Six (and removes her soul by doing so). Mono then kills the Thin Man, and enters the Tower, only for a soulless Six to leave him there. Mono is then used as a living battery to create the transmission until he’s too old to be useful, at which point Mono (now The Thin Man) is released from the tower by his past self and is then eventually killed by his past self, who goes on to become trapped in the tower and so on infinitely.
All of these things are not only complicated (Especially the Loop), but when compared to other adults, even adults with Jobs like the Teacher and Doctor, have something that other adults don’t: A Purpose and Ultimate Goal.
The Teacher endlessly teaches fake students that can’t grow, change, learn or ever leave the school. She will do that forever simply because she is a Teacher and Teachers teach. The Doctor endlessly preforms surgeries on patients that never leave, simply waiting in the hospital to go through it all again, once again, simply because the Doctor is a Doctor and that’s what doctors do. The Hunter hunts and taxidermies because he’s a hunter, end of story. These adults CAN do things other than their jobs if they want to, like the Teacher playing the Piano in her free time and even writing and editing her own piece, but in the end they’re stuck endlessly doing their jobs for no real reason, with no end goal, simply because that is what they do.
But the Lady and Broadcaster are different. For example: The Maw’s whole thing isn’t something the Lady does just because she’s The Owner or The Host of the Maw and that’s what she does, she does it to keep herself alive, maintaining the whole thing as a way to guarantee a steady supply of souls to keep herself going year after year. In fact: The Lady didn’t originally run the Maw. She forcibly took it over from the previous owner (The Granny). In other words: The Lady planned out everything with the Maw. She took over because she wanted to use it as a guest trap and continues to use it as so. There’s also the Lady’s connections to the Nest, showing that the Lady can just straight up stop the Maw stuff in its entirety for a while and do whatever the hell she wants at the Nest, not to mention her own collection of books and spells deeper in her personal quarters, further abandoning any semblance of “I run the Maw because I am it’s owner and therefore it is my purpose”. The Lady runs the Maw and keeps track of all her employees because she wants to (use it to become immortal), not because it’s her only true purpose in life.
Her name actually somewhat reflects this. Instead of a job title or something similar, her name is simply “The Lady”. “The Lady of the Maw” for long. It’s just a description of her. Not a job title. Because the Lady does what she wants and doesn’t have a preset job-related purpose. The Broadcaster can also technically be used here as well, because The Broadcaster isn’t actually his name. We don’t know his name. He’s simply a second Thin Man that you can find if you search through the Lore enough. I just call him the Broadcaster because that was the Thin Man’s original name when LN2 had just recently been announced.
(The Thin Man also has a non-job-related name and isn’t a lord, but that’s because he doesn’t actually have a job to define him with. He’s a living battery for the signal tower, nothing more and nothing less.)
Point is, Lords are way more intelligent than the typical adult, and are able to think in ways that regular adults simply can’t.
Also (and this one is a pure headcanon with little canon evidence): Lords have the unique ability to speak in a language that both Children and Adults understand, when normally Children and Adults simply can’t understand each other. The only other creatures that can do this are The Butler, a Non-Lord Adult who can speak Child thanks to the Lady, The Pretender, a child that can speak Adult also thanks to the Lady, and Children that are still in the process of being dragged into the Nowhere, like Noone being able to hear and understand an adult shopkeeper.
Lords can be aware of each other, interact and even work together, as seen with both the Lady and The Ferryman working together either with the Ferryman working underneath the Lady or both on an equal partnership (it’s hard to say given how powerful the Ferryman is and how we don’t know what he’s getting out of this partnership) and the Broadcaster and Flesh Walls working together to create the Transmission, the Loop and everything else that keeps the Pale City the way it is. It really just depends on how close their respective domains are.
In fact: we know two Lords who are either rivals or outright enemies: The Lady and The Broadcaster (once again, a separate entity from the Thin Man, although they look nearly identical).
In Little Nightmares 2, you can find an apartment that used to belong to the Lady, implying that she used to live in the Pale City.
Tumblr media
It even has a picture of her (Masked, implying that she had her powers long before coming to the Maw, throwing a massive wrench into the Cycle Of Ladies theory) and one of her ceramic statues. The Glitching Remain found near it might even be the shadow-lifeforce-soul-stuff that the Lady stores inside those things, having leaked out and gotten ensnared by the Transmission.
Given the state of the Pale City and how the Lady now views the mainland as “Chaos”, it’s pretty clear that the Lady lived in the Pale City before the Broadcaster and Signal Tower showed up, and the Lady left once the Transmission started up.
Then in the Nest, we have the Lady locking up a TV in a heavy duty room while suspending it in the air (presumably so nothing can come through and if something does, the TV will fall and break, preventing them from escaping).
Tumblr media
Combine that with the Broadcaster’s failed attempt to enter the Maw through a TV in the Post-Credits of Secrets Of The Maw and one of the Pretender’s drawings depicting the Broadcaster, and it’s very possible that the Lady did this in response to the Broadcaster trying to enter the Nest through that specific TV. To prevent him from taking her daughter. It would certainly explain why that TV was rigged to be one way. If the Broadcaster were to come through, the TV would fall, preventing the Broadcaster from escaping with a kidnapped Pretender.
Tumblr media
It’s not the only TV in the Nest, as the Pretender does have one of her own, but there’s also a possibility that this specific TV is special somehow. Maybe it’s the only one in the Nest that can access live TV and signals, with the Pretender’s TV only being able to play pre-recorded stuff.
Final point is, both the Lady and the Broadcaster seem to despise each other, with the Lady leaving the Pale City once he showed up and the Broadcaster making multiple attempts to enter the Maw and Nest, most likely with the intention of harming the Lady and/or the Pretender.
As for how Lords are made, I headcanon that there’s two ways. A Deal with The Eye or being Made By It.
For the second opinion you have The Ferryman, North Wind, Signal Tower and Living Mall. They were just straight up created by the Eye. They aren’t the only ones either, as other Lords like them still have the capability to exist out there in the Nowhere. These are just the Lords we’ve seen.
As for why I believe these guys were created by the Lord, just look at them and what they’re capable of.
The Ferryman is described as a otherworldly figure with a face resembling melting wax (fun fact: that exact description is used in the podcast and is a reference to the Cut Character The Wax Bellman, who was confirmed out of universe to be an older beta version of what would later become the Ferryman.), who can shapeshift, teleport, speaks entirely in riddles and is shown to have direct connections to EXTREMELY powerful creatures, not to mention that Otto identifies him as “The guardian at the threshold. A mythic entity who’s appeared in the stories of innumerable cultures.”
The North Wind is a formless entity that is the Wind, is on par with the Ferryman in power and out of universe, The North Wind is often a character in legends and stories of various cultures, just like how Otto describes the Ferryman.
The Signal Tower and Living Mall are so similar that I first they were the same character. They’re giant masses of flesh covered in eyes that can mimic entire buildings. The eyes alone should give these things off.
Coincidentally (or not), these four specific lords are the ones who are better at invading people’s dreams and accessing Our World, with the Ferryman in particular being so adept at it that Otto initially believes him to be The “guardian at the threshold” of the Nowhere. In reality, all Lords we see can access our world through dreams, and it turns out that Eye-Created Lords are just naturally better at it. The Ferryman isn’t THE guardian at the threshold that Otto is looking for, but A guardian at the threshold. A Lord. One of many.
For the others like The Lady, Broadcaster and most of the Podcast Lords, they started out as regular adults.
Now it’s important to note that Regular Adults, despite being bound to that singular purpose or job, can do things outside of it and have unrelated things on the side, like the Teacher playing and composing on the piano in her free time.
For many, this is where it starts, with an adult using that Free Time and stuff on the side in very specific ways. They start researching the world they inhabit and how it works, the Nowhere, Magic, The Eye, and it all eventually culminates in them somehow getting the attention of the Eye itself, and making a deal with it. Either that or the Adult comes into close contact with another Lord, who ends up bringing the Eye’s attention to the adult for them.
The deal is all the benefits that lords have over regular adults (plus whatever is unique to them, like the Lady’s shadow magic and the Broadcaster’s signal powers) in exchange for… something. We don’t know exactly what, but this something is generally assumed to be souls. Many souls. For example, the Viewers of the Pale City are eventually consumed by the Televisions they watch, leaving behind only their clothes. It’s assumed that their souls are claimed by the Eye through this, the Eye getting any and all souls that the transmission ensnares and drags into itself.
Speaking of which….
The All Seeing Eye:
To my understanding and theorizing, the Little Nightmares Universe looks like this:
Tumblr media
You have Reality as we know it, The Threshold between Reality and Nowhere, Nowhere itself, an unknown space that most likely just contains another threshold, this time between the Nowhere and the Nightmare World and the Nightmare World itself, which I also call the Eye’s Domain.
The Eye is a cosmic horror-esque eldritch monstrosity. Simple as that. It is the ruler and sole inhabitant of its domain, the Nightmare World. The Eye’s Domain essentially stands opposite to ours in a cosmic sense, and the Nowhere is created where both of these very different worlds overlap ever so slightly.
Also in a very disturbing twist, the Nowhere is actually essentially the universe’s DEFAULT STATE, or at least is as close as to you can get to it, and at some point in the incomprehensibly distant past (most likely during or even before the literal Big Bang), it separated into the stable, orderly “reality” where we live and exist and the horrifying chaotic eldritch nightmare world where the Eye exists.
We know this thanks to the Ferryman’s words: “Two flows from one, and here, is whole again”. In other words, there used to be one world, but then they separated into two, and in the Nowhere, both worlds meet again.
This also means that the Eye most likely predates the entire universe as we know it. In fact, I’d compare it to this bit of Adventure Time Lore:
youtube
The Eye’s Realm is literally just Eldritch madness the mortal mind can’t comprehend. Pure chaos with the Eye being omnipresent, all seeing and in full control of everything that happens in there. But the Nowhere is different. It’s not created by the Eye, at least not on purpose. The Nowhere is a space between spaces, where our reality meets the Eye’s nightmarish hellscape, and the end result is the Nowhere, where things make JUST enough sense to be comprehensible while also being filled with the Eye’s nightmares and corruption.
The Eye can see into the Nowhere and is almost always watching almost everywhere at once, but can’t truly interact with anything outside its domain like the Nowhere or Our World (thank god), but it can use other methods to influence things, like it’s various Lords. The massive amount of Eyes seen all over the franchise are less a thing the Eye looks through and more just a sign of Its Presence. It can’t show up physically, but the Eye symbols are a sign that it’s here and watching regardless.
However, despite the Eye being unable to physically appear in the Nowhere, we’ve seen it. In Episode 6 of the Podcast.
In episode 6, Noone is brought to the Threshold, the final barrier between the Real World and Nowhere, where crossing it will trap you forever. The Threshold (or at least Our side of it) is described as Extremely Dark, filled with black mist that makes it extremely hard to see, and contains a single wooden door simply described as “Ancient” with a symbol of the Eye on it. But after Noone crosses through the door and sees the Nowhere side of the Threshold, it’s different.
The Mist vanishes, and Noone sees countless stars that fill the sky with a red moon, but quickly realizes that those aren’t stars, they’re Eyes. Even the Red Moon is just a Massive, Red Eye. That is our description of the Eye itself.
The Eye can’t enter the Nowhere or Our World, but seems to be fully capable of existing within that border space between the realms, although it’s power is somewhat limited here compared to in its own domain.
Or maybe you can just see into the other realms from the Threshold. The Nowhere is compared to a one-way mirror at some point. Earth is on the mirrored side, and can’t look into the Nowhere, while the Nowhere can look at us. Presumably, the Nightmare Realm follows the same idea. From inside the Nightmare Realm, you can’t see the Nowhere either. You are on the mirrored side of a one way mirror. But from the Threshold, and more specifically the part of the Threshold that’s closer to the Nowhere? You are on the side of the mirror that lets you look straight through it, and with Noone being in-between Reality, The Nowhere AND the Nightmare World, she might have be able to look straight at the Eye in its domain, looking at it through the one-way mirror that is reality.
Anyways, That description of Countless Glowing Eyes matching the amount of stars in the sky with a single massive Red Eye surrounded by rings in the centre is the closest we can come to understanding what the Eye looks like. It’s the most complicated form it can take that we as human beings can still comprehend without going insane.
But there’s more. In episode 5, Otto attempts to use a machine to see into Noone’s dreams, but is stopped at the dark mist of the Threshold. He watches as a single eye appears from the darkness, and then it opens, staring at Otto with such intensity that he’s physically in pain from it, barely able to choke out words as he rambles that “it’s watching me” until the machine he’s using completely breaks down.
In other words, Otto tried to stare into the abyss that is Nowhere, but the Eye cut him off and stared right back.
Also also: Otto’s reaction to the Eye staring at him plus the sound it makes as it does so reminds me exactly of the Sentry Eyes used in the Maw and Nest that turn people caught in its gaze to stone. There’s also the unused TV Eyes from LN2 that do the same thing and it looks like the Mechanical Monster Baby in LN3 can do the same thing with it’s own eyes. This leads me to believe that many Lords directly draw upon the Eye for magical power, and Sentry Eyes (and the Eye Cameras in the Maw) use raw power taken straight from the Eye to power themselves.
Also as pure headcanon: In my headcanon post about some children being native to the Nowhere and some being from Earth, I mentioned two things:
Children that are visiting Nowhere as they sleep (like Noone) but haven’t been fully pulled in yet will disappear from Nowhere and go back to Earth if they die in the Nowhere, Fall Asleep in the Nowhere, or “go unobserved for too long”.
Children will naturally appear in the Nowhere (basically spawn in like Minecraft Mobs) in any area that is completely unobserved.
For both of these things, I’m not just talking about going unobserved by others, but also by the Eye.
The Eye, despite being present almost everywhere in the Nowhere and having a reputation as being all-seeing, is not perfect. Occasionally, a tiny gap will appear in its all-seeing sight, and when it can’t see a spot, Children, one of the only things immune to its corrupting, nightmarish presence, have a chance to appear in that unobserved spot.

talia <3
love her ♡
Sexuality Headcanon: 100% bi . canonically supported by that one joelle jones panel in batman #33, noncanonically supported by the fact i think she should be bi
Gender Headcanon: none.
A ship I have with said character: brutalia but like they’re divorced. TALIANA…(diana x talia)…like they crossed paths and have RIDICULOUS sexual tension…island women…good with swords…
A BROTP I have with said character: talia and selina. i know a lot of people think talia and selina should fuck but i think they should actually just be friends. less of a weird racist meta power dynamic that way
A NOTP I have with said character: talia and jason . nope no way 👎🏽 gross and weird and talia wouldn’t fucking DO that… disgusting
A random headcanon: she doesn’t believe in anyone’s agenda anymore. not her fathers not batman’s no one’s agenda. secretly she’s just sick of all the pointless fighting and dying and just wants to chill in a cabin by the beach with some good heavy books and some nice tea
General Opinion over said character: soooooo much potential . SO much potential what the fuck . and all of it lost to generic racism and lazy writing ! talia is probably one of their most complex female characters given the least amount of exploration or weight and instead used to rehash old shit again and again . she is one of three arab characters in their entire canon and she’s still disregarded despite being a nexus point for so much lore in the batcanon…very disappointing on behalf of dc actually. a year ago i was so viscerally angry about this i actually used it as the topic of an academic essay that would count towards my highschool graduation and i have so much more to say but tl:dr she’s always just a plot device twisted to suit the narrative, never a character given proper storylines or directions and it’s just disappointing .

I love Data but watching Agatha all along reminds me I have a specific need to selfship with death-themed agents of chaos (probably why Data and Nikole are the two strongest selfships I’ve ever had- between the two of them they kinda cover all my needs)
I was thinking of maybe headcanon into emotion chip Data taking on kinda a dark aesthetic and Klaus Hargreeves personality lol basically fusing my top two. Doesn’t 100% jive with canon but I still believe canon didn’t really explore the emotion chip (I only saw season 1 of Picard and hardly consider it canon to Datas arc so I have no idea if I count whatever happened after that)
I do think a Klaus Hargreeves-esque personality would actually be possible for Data post emotion chip, maybe after a year or two, as he adjusts and really feels his feelings about things. I think of his brother, Lore- I consider them very essentially different people, and emotions wouldn’t change that, but I do think Klaus a good example of how emotions could make their through lines emerge in very different ways.
Like they’re both bitter, jaded with the system, preoccupied with Death, playful, witty, smart? But Klaus Hargreeves and the Joker are not the same characters by any means.

CEVVV buddy ol pal. this request might be a little odd, but may I request headcanons on how Katakuri and Law might interact with or think of each other?
(and to be clear, i dont mean in a shippy way. perhaps with Kirin/Rio as the reason they meet?)
*evilly responds to this*
MEWWW you're making my brain rattle!!! my silly little thinking cogs turning for our silly little scrunklies kissing maren on the cheek for your brain muah muah ily 💖💕
as an aside i also found out that locomotives are sometimes called iron horses while looking stuff up for this and that’s so 🥺😭😭💖
thoughts on each other (Katakuri and Law)
gen, he/they law, oc x canon word count: 0.9k
Ah yes, another worst gen supernova on Kat’s lawn askdnfkslhf
Rio talked about a lot of things in their little moments of peace together, about his time with the rev army, the people he met long his travels, his captain; Kata was one of the only people he could vent to in his little canary cage, after all - Law and his crew were thrown in here and there
So going into it, he has some idea of what kind of person Law is, even if through Rio’s (correct) dweeb accusations and vague threats of what he’d do to him if that “punk” hurt his captain while he was gone
Actually meeting though, given that they’re not in a life or dead situation, it might be a little awkward - namely because I’m not sure if they’d have that many overlaps in interests
Both their personalities, or at least what they pretend is their personalities to the general public, lean into the “cool, stoic” types that brood in the corner away from anything fun, so I’m thinking any early interaction they’d have would probably fall into that
Law doesn’t think much of Kata at first, or rather not a lot about him, like “oh, another one ally from Kiri-ya’s side, ok”
Is Law surprised at all that Luffy also had something to do with fundamentally helping changing the viewpoints of someone who could once be considered an enemy to them? No, are they still mildly amused and god forbid they’d ever admit it to anyone proud? Yeah, maybe a little
They’re both powerful pirates in their own rites with fearsome reputations but aside from that what are they gonna talk about, the weather? Lmao with what social skills
Once they’re a little more comfortable around each other though, probably with Kirin to break the ice or Rio picking a fight with Law that gradually fizzles into a regular chat because they’re both great greasing the conversation I can see them having small talks here and there
It’s nothing big and never lasts too long but it’s a start, eventually they’d talk about just things on their mind, inconsequential stuff that doesn’t matter but it feels nice to air out anyway, and sometimes it’s just nice sitting in silence next to one another knowing that there’s no pressure to have to talk, that just each other’s company is enough
I’m thinking of when we talked about Katakuri building/running little model trains and god Law and Kata would go HARD for their hyperfixations
They take turns explaining things at first, but once something gets the ball rolling on Law’s Sora lore (literally just mentioning it) or Kat’s little steam engines (back and forth questions make him SO happy that someone’s listening in and taking note of his interests) - they kind of end up talking over each other at times and circling back to different branches of ideas because they’re going on so many tangents because they’re so excited to infodump to someone who’s actively and enthusiastically participating
You know they’re 100% combining interests and coming up with pages worth of additional Sora lore on how trains were actually a huge part of that lil comic world because they were funded by Germa to privately transport eeeevil supplies and now there’s an entire arc dedicated to it in Law’s canon for it
For a gift exchange once Kata gave Law a wooden model train painted with the Germa 66 colors and Law give Kat a teddy (Katakuri sized, so it was like as tall as them) dressed as a little train conductor, both handmade, they then both proceeded not to feel anything at all like “real, manly men” were supposed to
(Law was faced down on his bed for an hour and Katakuri was hesitant at first but once he held Mr. Walter Puffington III, Rio had to convince him to put the plush away after two consecutive nights in a row of being the third wheel to it when he went to bed)
Lastly I absolutely do not think that these two can smile on command, like if they’re put on the spot, leaning more to Kata’s end but also looking at Law’s first bounty poster?? Hello sir why do you look evil????
They try, they really do, but more often than not it kind of just looks a little stiff if not uncomfortable for them to hold their faces in that position; Kirin and Rio still absolutely adore them either way, Rio’s kissing all over Kata’s face and his teefies, and Kirin’s got Law in a vice, laughing and smooching all over his ‘adorable’ mushroom while Law tries to fight his way out, conveniently forgetting that he has the ability to shambles away
Plus, all this means is that when Kata and Law do smile without realizing that they are, and it’s sweet and endearing even if a little awkward sometimes and god damn it Kirin and Rio are on the floor (internally, for the latter, he has some reputation to keep up, after all Kirin’s just a gay bitch in love)
Bonus:
I think Law would (secretly) find Maren’s style cool and if those two had to do their own things in the same room together they’d be able to vibe in the silence for a while like he/they bitches do but for the love of god once Maren opens his mouth with teasing intent it’s all over Law’s spending at least an hour faced down in Kirin tiddy to decompress and recharge, no bully them he’s trying their best >:’c

Art by: @artofalassa Got a question a few days ago why people started shipping Anduin and Darion. If you know Darion only from the game and you don’t focus on background and lore in books and comics, you will probably miss most of it (same goes for Anduin, although he has more in-game lore than Darion). I wrote few posts about this but I would love to do a new one with more details.
Just a disclaimer, ship doesn’t mean only intimate relationship. It can be any kind of close relationship. These two have a potential to work perfectly as close friends, diplomatic connection, advisors to each other, etc. I’ve learned not expecting anything from Blizzard. Not even expect them to see connection between two characters. You can’t expect anything from company that ruined its own lore beyond repair. So I don’t care anymore what happens in the game. What I am saying is: these two deserved some time on screen or in books or comics. Not as a couple. But with kind of excentric friendship. This will never gonna happen, not from Blizzard. But I am sure people will do stuff. Me included. You can count on that.
WHY THESE TWO
There are ships when you have no clue why people started shipping such characters. I saw ships which started because the characters had one thing in common. Or they had the same hair color. These two? They have way too much in common, it’s so incredibly obvious for people with good lore knowledge. And with Chains of Domination? You think Anduin is similar to Arthas? Well, nope, Blizzard copied Darion’s story arch. You don’t believe? Ok, let’s take a look.
WHAT THEY HAVE IN COMMON
Never met their mothers
Anduin - Tiffin was killed when he was a small baby
Darion - Elena died right after his birth
Fathers incredibly powerful, living legends
Anduin - Varian was a gladiator and became Lo’Gosh, a legend
Darion - Alexandros Mograine called The Ashbringer killed thousands of undead alone, legend even during his life
Lost their fathers at a young age
Anduin - lost Varian when he was 17
Darion - I write Darion that he died when he was 17, Alexandros was most probably killed the same year when Darion died (timelines are confusing, Blizzard is unable to keep track themselves but people agree that was not older than 20 years)
Experienced life-threatening situation as kids/teenagers
Anduin - Onyxia and Divine Bell
Darion - The Scourge attacked Lordaeron when he was still a kid, he almost died in Stratholme when he was a teenager
Huge, almost crushing responsibility at a young age
Anduin - he ruled the kingdom along with Bolvar and Katrana Prestor when he was around 10 afterter his father was kidnapped. He was made king at age 17 after Varian’s death and he is the youngest faction leader among Alliance and Horde
Darion - considering he died when he was 17, Light’s Hope probably happened when he was around 22 years old, took over the whole order of death knights and instrumented Lich King’s downfall (dude, I was happy I had a stable job and had something to eat when I was 22). Oh and he forged Shadowmourne, which was almost as powerful as Frostmourne.
Underestimated by many because of their age, turned out they are capable of things others, even older can't do
Anduin - During Legion, you can see how many people, even they love Anduin, doubt that he can protect them, he is underestimated by both his allies and enemies because he is calm and choose diplomacy over fight
Darion - This is probably my headcanon and because I work with Ashbringer version of Darion. He looks very young, he is probably the youngest death knight. When he is incognito as Ebon Watcher, it’s easy to consider him as an ordinary death knight and no threat.
Both on a high position, the fate of the world rely on them (multiple times)
Anduin - King of the Alliance during the Burning Legion invasion, then Fourth War and now Shadowlands. Boy doesn’t have a break
Darion - War in Northrend, without the Ebon Blade, war would be most likely lost. He was chosen by the Lich King to take over Eastern Kingdoms. If he and his knights would not break free at Light’s Hope, we would have a big problem. He also leads us to Shadowlands. And he would be pretty significant in Shadowlands too if Blizzard was able to work with more than 5 characters.
... both are blond (despite their fathers are not)...
Anduin - I know how genetics work, but some people don’t. So there are theories that Anduin is not son of Varian, because he is blond.
Darion - fortunately, nobody doubts that Darion is not son of Alexandros, because Mograines are just Mograines (crazy people with no concept of what is not possible, they do it anyway)
...and thanks to that, their fathers saw their wives in them
Anduin - Anduin was actually raised by servants of Stormwind castle, because Varian was crushed and depressed by death of Tiffin. And it did not help that Anduin reassembled her so it was even harder for Varian to talk to him and have a healthy relationship
Darion - The reason why Alexandros was so overprotective of Darion was that he reassembled Elena, not only physically but also with mindset and personality. Losing him would be losing her over again
They actually look similar
This point and 2 points above work only if you are working with Ashbringer version of Darion, not with his ginger in-game model with beard. But maybe you start to see why I love to work with Ashbringer version so much. But if we take Ashbringer version, they are now physically around 20 years old, Anduin is already physically older now. They are both blond, I would say they have similar face features.
They did not follow their fathers footsteps
Anduin - Varian was dissapointed that Anduin is not tough, he doesn’t want to be warrior and instead he is soft, lighthearted, kind and choose diplomacy over fight. They made peace not so long before Varian’s death.
Darion - Alexandros was a powerful paladin but the Light never spoke to Darion as much as it did to his father, he was not able to wield it and use it as him. Luckily for him, Alexandros was not dissapointed at all because of that. But we can actually say Darion followed his father’s footsteps afterall. He became death knight and wielded the Ashbringer for some time. According to timeline and the time between the end of Ashbringer and beginning of WotLK, Darion was in the Scourge for a few years. And just because Kel’Thuzad told him he is taking him as a replacement for Alexandros, there is a huge possibility he was one of Four Horsemen for this period of time, just like his father. Not a footsteps you want to follow.
Caring and would die for the right thing
Anduin - He doesn’t care what it takes, he will risk a lot to do a right thing and make it happen. Divine Bell was a perfect example. And he doesn’t seem to regret that. And it doesn’t seem his mindset changed - he wants to achieve peace so there are no wars and people can live peacefuly, there will be no suffering
Darion - He already died for person he loved and he thought he is doing a right thing. Then he took over renegade death knights and gave them place where to stay and safe space where they can return. It was shown perfectly in Legion Class Hall Campaign, in Shadowlands starting questline in the Maw AND especially in We Ride Forth how deeply he cares for his knights. Mess with his knights, you mess with him.
Savage as hell
Anduin - Ok, he seem to be soft and fluffy. But if you are reading books and comics, you can spot he can be actually pretty savage and sharp. He is a diplomat and a royalty. But he is savage. You can look at Battle for Undercity final cinematic or Sylvanas Choice. He can be pretty snarky.
Darion - Do I have to say something? Read We Ride Forth. I mean, there is more but you can see it here the most how determined, stubborn and savage he is.
Bolvar!
Anduin - You can actually say that Bolvar most probably raised Anduin. Varian had a hard time and didn’t spend much time with him and then he dissapeared. Blizzard did not show it properly but you can see bits and pieces that Bolvar adopted him as his own and he was significant to Anduin.
Darion - Darion was the only person on Azeroth trying to find a way how to relieve Bolvar of his duty as the Lich King. It was said in WoD when he goes to Draenor searching for Ner’Zhul’s writings in Shadowmoon. And it was confirmed in We Ride Forth. (”Bolvar, we must talk. Now. Bolvar, I made you a promise. Do you remember? I swore I would not let you become like Arthas.”)
Do I have to continue? Anduin is almost Darion, except... he stayed alive. But wait, we are not finished. Because... CHAINS OF DOMINATION!
Ok this was lol for me. And I even made funny sketch for that. People say that Anduin is becoming Arthas. Hell no. If you read stuff from above, you can see a pattern. And this pattern continues here.
Tumblr media
Fell to darkness
Anduin - Anduin is now mindcontrolled and acts as a vessel for the Jailer. Powerful priest and servant of the Light turned to darkness and destroying what he holds dear.
Darion - Killed himself with the Ashbringer, was raised as a death knight without free will and memories, destroying what he hold dear.
Corrupted sword of his father
Anduin - We are talking about Shalamayne. The sword and a compass is the only thing was what’s left of Varian. And guess what sword was tainted and turned into a mournblade?
Darion - Ashbringer is not a mournblade, never was, but it was kind of runeblade when it was corrupted and the Scourge had it in possession. Whose sword was the Ashbringer? Yep, Alexandros, Darion’s father was the original wielder.
ETERNITY’S END
I don’t want to write much about what is happening in lore, because Danuser is a Fu**ing donkey of a story writer and I can’t believe he is this stupid and is proud and happy about it. But yeah. They definitely copied Darion’s story arc for Anduin. Because, you know, they have no clue they have the same character. Actually in the Shadowlands. And forgot to... you know point that out or actually work with Darion.
Souls of their fathers trapped in the sword
Anduin - Varian died, we were told he is completely dead, but he was in Shalamayne the whole time, waiting for the right moment to save Anduin from domination and damnation. Where have I seen this before?
Darion - Tried to save his father, failed, had to kill him, his soul escaped into the corrupted sword.
Their fathers saved them from the damnation
Anduin - Exactly as written above. Where I have seen this before? Oh I know.
Darion - Damned himself to serve the Scourge until his father’s soul showed up and helped him break the chains of servitude, giving free will back to him.
Blizzard... YOU HAVE THIS CHARACTER ALREADY.
I mean... I think I wrote everything. If I forgot something, you can let me know ( @jaakkola is an expert ). But here are the reasons why Anduin has more from Darion than from Arthas and why people started to write fanfics and draw pictures of them together, hanging out.
So yeah, if you didn’t know why this ship makes absolute sense, you are welcome. And as I said, friendship is absolutely ok, that’s also ship in its own way (queer platonic, ace and demi relationships are so underrated). I am working with these two intensively only for 1-2 years (worked with them before, but not this much) and I am discovering new things almost every time I come back to them.
As a bonus, some Mogrynn pictures.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some spicy stuff here. Because I am not gonna do it if you are not ready for this ship.

Why Xiao isn’t just some edgelord, an essay by yours truly (or: I need sleep)
Tumblr media
Before you read!!
This was mainly written because I kind of got tired of Xiao being labelled as ‘edgelord’ a lot of times and while I have nothing against it when it’s jokingly said (after all I call Childe a ‘clown’ all the time or Klee ‘Arson child’ haha, you get what I mean) I also feel like him getting meme’d as that leads to a lot of mischaracterization. I’m not here to attack anyone or anything!! Just sharing my personal thoughts about him influenced by his canon lore in game + headcanons I developed while writing fics for him. I hope you don’t mind my brainrot.
Tumblr media
-            I suppose that a lot of Xiao’s characterization as an ‘edgelord’ comes from his wildly dark history and the way he expresses himself (like growling when he’s thinking about his past memories) that is quite different from other characters in Genshin when he’s not like this because he wants to but because he’s been shaped by his trauma that reaches wide into the past and the fact that he doesn’t belong in the human world   -          he is stuck in the mortal world while having to defend it from otherworldly beings and forces that threaten to destroy the fragile balance between both worlds, and it’s a task he fulfils with pride because it was given to him by Rex Lapis, the god who saved him from his former master –
-          an evil deity who had abused and used him and forced him to commit atrocities that still haunt him to this day; he never wanted to kill, he never wanted to have to take away someone’s dreams but he was helpless to resist and in the end he stained his hands with so much more blood than he ever wanted to   -          taking his trauma and the way he talks about it and labelling it as ‘edgy’ is plain disregarding towards the pain he went through in his early years when his innocence was stolen from him and then utterly destroyed until Rex Lapis saved him and gave him his life back, a duty he can be proud of and the chance to regain a bit of his former gentleness because that’s who he is deep inside: a kind and gentle soul that never wants to hurt anyone
  -          not to mention the trauma he experienced by having to watch the only family he ever had, the other Yakshas, perish one after another – whether it was because they were consumed by the darkness they fought and killed one another or because they died in battle – he wasn’t able to save any of them and while it’s never talked about in-game lore I doubt that their deaths didn’t leave a mark on him that lasts till today. To be heralded as the last Yaksha is surely not a title that Xiao is proud or happy about.   -          to get to his character trait of him usually keeping his sentences curt and to the point (like his good morning line ‘’We're wasting time. Let's go.’’) and him growling when he thinks about his sorrowful past that probably made people label him as edgy – does it really surprise anyone that he doesn’t talk like humans from Teyvat talk when he’s a) not human and b) has spent almost all of his life in solitude?   -          which would obviously lead to him being extremely used to dealing with emotions and humans; despite having such a kind and selfless heart (more to that later) but he’s just not used to conversing with humans - mainly because Adepti need to keep their distance from humans lest their adeptal energy will harm them   -          when Xiao kept his distance from humans all these years, it was for their own good (something he says during the first meeting with the traveller and something I think he firmly believes in because past encounters with humans never went well for them and again, he doesn’t want to hurt anyone and certainly not humans)   -          and while he’s gotten used to living in solitude I don’t think he actually enjoys having to live like this – he’s incredibly lonely and suffers from it - and just like every living being he longs to have someone to talk to and who understands him, even appreciates him although this is something he wouldn’t dare to wish for because it’s something that can’t be fulfilled (Lumine: sikes you thought you can stay alone forever, yeah too bad for you I’m here for you now)   -          it was stated in the article about Xiao and his creation process how curious he is about the human world despite trying to hide it from others (and himself too because longing for something you can’t have or take part in hurts like hell and god knows he’s experienced enough in his life) -  but it doesn’t mean he doesn’t yearn to experience those feelings of warmth and love that most humans as well   -          and when I say love I don’t necessarily mean romantic love although I don’t count it impossible for him (though it would take a long time for him to break down his own walls and find the courage to love and be hurt, and I think abrupt love confessions would frighten him because he simply never experienced it before – a life of bloodshed and battle certainly don’t help with understanding his own or other hearts)   -          no, what I mean are the different kinds of love he’s seen humans share with each other – a mother’s love when she puts her child to bed with a goodnight kiss, a friend’s platonic love when they hug their friend who’s sad or simply out of joy – it’s all things he never got to experience for himself but secretly longs to experience as well (fight me on that because I’ll die on that hill)   -          and this also leads to me firmly believing that he doesn’t hate humans no matter how often he ‘mocks’ traditions and customs – it’s mainly to hide his own curiosity and longing to join them knowing that he doesn’t belong with humans. But he certainly doesn’t hate them no matter his words because you can’t guard and protect someone without loving and caring for them. If he truly despised humans he would have never risked his life and soul for as long as he has to protect them.   -          and he knows that he will never receive any gratitude for the suffering he endures, nor that anyone will pray to him, or even pray for him to come home from battle safely – all he has left by now is himself and his duty he proudly continues to fulfil to honour his fallen comrades and his contract with Zhongli – and yet he keeps fighting such a thankless and seemingly endless battle without any complaints or lamenting his cruel fate; if that isn’t kindness then I really don’t know anymore   -          not to mention that if he truly was an ‘edgelord’ he’d be lamenting his cruel fate or curse at everything for forcing him to live such a life devoid of any warmth and joy – but he doesn’t. Because no one survives thousands of years with a heart full of hatred and no one understands that better than him who has fought against the lingering wrath and hatred of fallen gods.   -          and while Xiao himself doesn’t believe that he is kind (after all both his hands and soul are stained by blood, he’s nothing more but a weapon or so he would say if someone told him he’s kind) it’s his selfless and devoted nature and his love for the simple things in life – a nice dish of Almond Tofu, flowers, the soft tunes of a flute - that make him such a gentle soul – he just doesn’t realize nor acknowledges that part of himself   -          so if someone loves him they have to love all the cracks in his soul and try to pour their light into them, be patient with him because it will take him a very long time to get used to all these feelings, to the reassurance that he is loved and also deserves to be loved, after all this is so foreign to him and very likely to frighten him but in return he will love unconditionally and be forever loyal as he is loyal to the land he continues to protect
...and what more could anyone ask for, right?

Tim Drake: The Original Novelist
Very elaborate writer
Sucks at dialogue but makes up for it with his lore and descriptions
Does a ton of original work, has like ten original series’ in his master list with more than fifteen parts each
Makes his own worlds with his own lore but adds in the characters because he still wants to write for his fandom
Basically an author already
Uses words you have to google sometimes
Requests are closed and doesn't respond to feedback in his inbox but secretly rereads them
Tim’s master list is intricate with multiple links to other master lists
Pretty basic/boring headers/dividers to not distract from the links
Posts at random, can go a month or two without posting a fic and then posts nothing but fics for a week straight
Too scared to reblog things at first, barely ever likes things either
Uses the tags very often to scream into the void
Reblogs things that has nothing to do with the fandom he writes for that you'll get whiplash every time you open his blog from how random it can be
On the rare occasions Tim does comment or reblog, he’ll quote a specific line from the fic and scream about how good it was
His profile pic is a random ass photo he liked one day and refuses to change it even if it has nothing to do with his fandom
Refuses to do a face reveal but does post cosplay photos with his face blurred or a mask on
Decent following and only popular because of one original series that blew up
Tim had a few mutuals and hypes them up in private so he can tell them each and every moment he enjoyed in their fic
Does tag games but always says “I tag whoever wants to do this” because he never knows who to tag
His bio is literally just his masterlist because he has a separate bio in there
Damian Wayne: The Conversationist
Mainly does headcanons but when he does sit down and write, its hella long and very well thought out
Loves writing body language and going into depth about the flaws of his characters
His writing is not fancy at first but its very immersive - one line in and you can easily picture everything, very good at imagery
Damian opens his askbox for headcanons from his followers and will disprove them with facts or add on with his version of canon
Amazingly good at characterization as if he wrote the character himself
No headers, he only uses titles
He doesn't even see the point in dividers until someone shows him then he decides to makes his own (insanely good btw)
Posts on a regular schedule to the point that you don't even need his notifs on, you can just open your phone on a certain and know Damian posted
Does not reblog things, its his own blog so why should he reblog other people's things?
Strictly a writing blog so its very easy to scroll through and see nothing but fics
He has his pet as his profile picture
Not the biggest follower count but he doesn't care about it, he came to write nothing else
No mutuals, only people he knows of and interacts with but does not consider them mutuals
His bio is super simple, just “Writer of __ fandom”

(ignoring all the other juicy Deltarune 2 stuff to shove Chara Talks into it lololol)
I haven’t been super active on this blog because frankly I have like, three? looong analysis/theorycrafting posts I’ve been putting off working on and it fills me with shame to log in and see them waiting in my drafts.
But.
With the release of Deltarune Chapter 2, I wanted to talk kinda in general about how I thought it could impact the fandom’s perception of Everybody’s Favorite Demon Baby, and also point out something in specific about the Weird Route that might connect back to Undertale.
Putting it under the cut to avoid spoilers and long-winded ramblings for the unwilling. Includes spoilers for the Weird Route.
(NOTE: may update later if I notice more things for to put in section II. I’d like to make a full list of parallels if I can tidy them up.)
I. Pre- vs Post-Release Thoughts (you can skip down to II if you don’t care, it is genuinely Long and Pointless)
Okay, so first off. I got SO worried like, the day before the new chapter dropped? It hit me that whatever new stuff we got out of this, people would connect back to Undertale, and. Honestly, I really do hate connecting everything back to Chara, because I do think of Kris as their own character and I really like them and don’t want to ignore everything they got going on. But, I am first and foremost a shameless Chara stan and they’re very important to me, so I kinda... did spend a few minutes reeling from all the new DR stuff as its own stuff, and then immediately started thinking about how this would reflect back on Chara in Undertale lol.
But that’s ok for me to do here because this is my All Chara, Only Chara, All The Time blog, so I am gonna only really talk about Deltarune here to talk about them lol.
So yeah, I started getting anxious beforehand worrying about how everyone would take any and all implications and apply it to mean “aha, Chara IS evil!” The fakeout with the pie reveal in the anniversary stream was a big relief, but I still got worried leading up to the release about what could be in it.
Because part of why I’ve always thought that “Chara was genuinely evil from the start” and even “ok maybe not TOTALLY evil, but Chara was still a kinda bad person” were unlikely was, even if you throw out all the other popular Chara-sympathetic theories. To me, both these takes just seemed too below TF’s talent and the way he wrote all his other characters with depth and love; a Chara like the one these theories propose just doesn’t belong in a world created by TF, and the way the Dreemurrs talk about them overall, the way TF made a point of having Chara say they were guided and repeatedly, correctly blame you the player for the destruction in Kill-All, I was sure that he never intended them to ever be as bad as the fandom sometimes tried to make them out to be.
... Like, mostly sure. Like, 80% sure? Because he never ever talks about them, so it’s impossible say for sure, and it is still theoretically possible that “Chara was and is bad” was the cold-ass take he’d intended all along. So yeah, leading up to the release, I started getting antsy that whatever new lore came out of it, either he’d directly confirm “Chara was a villain?” “*cocks gun* Always has been” or there’d be something that’d at least heavily implicate them, or could be twisted to implicate them, as a negative force. More ammo to be used against them in the Chara Debate Circles would be a drag, and outright confirmation of them as a villain would honestly break my heart and I’d be forced to disown Toby Fox, My Beloved Cool Dad.
And, right now? Tell the truth, I’m SO relieved and I am SO happy. And not just because of how much depth and characterization it seems Kris is getting! (imo, because rn I just headcanon them as an unhappy teen desperately trying to keep their new friends going on adventures with them and trying to fight back against the player’s control)
I love how this chapter seems to be TF doing course-correcting based on fandom interpretations. Because Kris just isn’t evil, even if they are a knife teen, even if they are the Knight, they’re just NOT evil and that’s canon, baybeeee; it’s made clear in this chapter and the previous one that they love their family even outside of the player’s control, they care about their new friends even outside of the player’s control, they’re established as a weird creepy kid but no one sees them as scary or evil, they’re just Kris, and even in the Weird Route, TF made a point of hammering in the differences between Kris and the player in the Weird Route: Susie and Ralsei notice how distressed Kris seemed after you have Noelle ice Berdly, Noelle heard a voice that she said wasn’t Kris telling her to kill, and the FUCKING Spamton fight: “Kris called for help... but nobody came” again and again, and then “You whispered Noelle’s name”... you, not Kris.
I know TF has never commented much on fans’ perceptions of Frisk and Chara, or who exactly is pulling strings in different routes. But after all this, and especially after seeing all the little winks and nods to fandom jokes in this chapter (what comes to mind: pulling everyone’s leg by seeming to have Kris attack Toriel with a knife only to reveal that pie theory was right, Susie not liking Ralsei’s real face as much as his shadowed one, Ralsei with a gun getting referenced with the ad, Kris getting a joke fixation with knives after the fans made Chara and Kris have knife obsessions as a joke), and seeing what looks like him try to correct some things (what stuck out to me was doubling down on showing that Kris is loved and valued in their family: lots of fans came away from Chapter 1 thinking that Kris was not valued as much as Asriel, but here we see that Toriel is supportive of Kris’ friendship with Susie, and it’s stated that Asriel is the one who used the crappy controller, not Kris) -
I think while he hasn’t commented directly, while he admitted to being overwhelmed by Undertale’s success, while he tends to be pretty tight-lipped about the lore (whether that’s because it’ll be addressed by future chapters or because he prefers to let fans sleuth it out), this chapter convinced me that Toby does keep tabs on fan reactions in Deltarune, so he probably does with Undertale too and would know about all The Discourse surrounding Little Mx Pink Cheeks (and in turn, popular theories like Narrator Chara... Toby if you integrate Narrator Chara into Deltarune being a borderline creepypasta and have the narrator start talking directly to the characters or to the player or the characters start talking to the narrator I will lose my damn B E A N S).
(Kris and Chara not being demonized and the narrator interacting directly with the characters were the only two things on my wishlist going in, I was fine with literally anything else happening lmao)
I even kinda think he’s going out of his way to separate Kris and the player because we didn’t get it before with Undertale, we still insisted that Frisk or Chara was the one doing it, and he’s even using Kris to show that even if this kid can be scary, maybe even mean, and maybe they’re even the Knight (with their reasons unknown), they’re still not a bad kid, they’re still funny and likable, and they still genuinely love their family and friends - which falls in line with Undertale’s cast of complex but likable people who can be antagonists and make mistakes but still aren’t truly bad people, and imo is a direct response to some people fixating on the idea that Chara was always evil because they seem scary/complicated.
... Which is a long way to say that I came out of Deltarune with my confidence fully restored about TF’s intentions with Chara and Kris. Even if he never comments on Chara directly, now I really don’t think TF thinks they’re evil or ever intended for them to be. Deltarune convinced me more than ever that Chara is meant to be complex, yes, and able to be influenced to do horrible things, but they were never intended to be as malicious or shallow as some fans insist.
TLDR:
Toby Fox read your mean fanfiction where Chara is a bad abusive serial killer no one likes, and he made Deltarune in revenge.
... Hm? Ah, you’d like me to get to the point! Right this way!
II. Undertale, Deltarune, and The Point
While no doubt some will still take the voice Noelle hears to be Chara influencing her to turn her into a murderer (I haven’t gone looking for it yet, but I’m sure it’s already a thing because I know this fandom), since it’s made too clear by the game that they can’t blame Kris for this one, I think at this point that’s just being too stubborn to consider other ideas.
If you believe in the totally made up idea used in so many fanfics that Chara is an evil spirit trying to whisper in Frisk’s ear to kill everyone, literally (for some reason) the embodiment of raising stats, and gets more control over people who have increased LV to take over their body... sure. Could be them, they did talk about moving on to the next world and all. I mean, that wouldn’t really make sense because it’s literally never implied in the actual game that Chara encourages you to kill outside of the Kill-All Run or even wants you to, certainly not as the narrator and we get no hint of them doing this as an unseen, unheard third-party either.
Not to mention they’re NOT literally possessing you because of increased LV; they don’t control you even with high LV in any Undertale route other than arguably the Kill-All, and if you fail the Kill-All and it turns into a high-body count Neutral, Chara suddenly stops using first-person narration and showing up in mirrors entirely even though they were showing themself before, the LV remains the same or even can get raised as high as LV 19, nor do they suddenly take over in any other Neutral runs. We can speculate on why (personally, I’d place this either on Chara’s mindset, such as them sinking into shock from the trauma or becoming more assertive as the player feeds their megalomania, or as a sign of Frisk’s withdrawal, leaving Chara alone in the body to take the reins and act out the player’s orders), but canonically, no, Chara does not take over due to high stats.
In fact, there’s even more evidence against this. First-person narration also exists for fleeing your battles in Undertale, even on Pacifist runs with base stats, 0 EXP, and an LV of 1. Since Chara is established to use first-person narration to refer to themself, is the only one who canonically does so, and is confirmed to be present even in all runs through their name and memories always showing up, it seems pretty likely that Chara can take control to flee battle. That means an increase in stats is not a sign of their presence or control, in Undertale or Deltarune.
The most damning blow to the idea that Chara is the voice corrupting Noelle are the lines in the fight with Spamton I mentioned. Kris called for help, but nobody came. You whispered Noelle’s name. Well hold on. If that’s Chara, shouldn’t it be “I whispered Noelle’s name”? As soon as you’ve officially started the Kill-All in Undertale, Chara starts up their “It’s me, Chara” schtick right away, right there in Toriel’s home in the first area, and if they weren’t the narrator before, they’re beginning to speak through the narration now. If the voice was Chara, surely Toby Fox knows it’d be a way bigger “oh shit” moment if the creepy scary hidden route once again switched into first-person, scaring us the same way he did before when we first saw “It’s me, Chara” and knew something was wrong; unfairly or not, their reputation as a villain is still well established and hinting to Chara’s presence with a simple “I” would drive the menace even further, if he intended for them to simply be a demon that possesses player characters when you grind enough. But it’s still just you. The player.
The Weird Route does even more to help Chara’s case than that. Not only is it made pretty clear that Kris and the player are separate, and the player is the one responsible for corrupting Noelle and making her kill... consider how similar Noelle and Chara are, in the Weird Route and the Kill-All Route.
This “voice” that “guides” them in growing strong, compelling them to kill everyone in order to fight for them, eventually driving them to murder people they know. Chara calls themself “the demon that comes when people call its name”, and you whisper Noelle’s name to have her appear to kill Spamton. Noelle’s conflicting emotions towards Kris and the voice as she is manipulated, as she becomes more violent and sadistic, as she goes into shock; does that not sound like Chara, who flipflops between holding you dear as their partner and wanting to move on to the next world together, to be together forever, and them being disgusted by your refusal to accept consequences and the perverse enjoyment you get in killing everyone again and again? Chara, who clings to their quirky narration for much of the Kill-All, but keeps slipping up, who becomes terrifyingly cold, aggressive, power-hungry, and even sadistic, yet still calls Undyne “the heroine”, still seems to still care about their locket, still has moments where they seem to falter?
Noelle does put up significantly more resistance to the voice’s commands than Chara does, and at least much more visibly shows distress and trauma. I don’t think this is a black mark on Chara’s chara-cter either, or an indication of them being more violent or cruel.
For one, while Noelle is still herself with her own soul, it is heavily implied by Chara, Flowey, and Undertale’s lore that Chara was reincarnated without their own soul, at best perhaps attached to Frisk’s (or yours): as I speculate in one of my currently unfinished theories, while monster souls are made up of love, compassion, and hope and thus Asriel was reincarnated without these qualities, it could well be that human souls are correspondingly made up of their own multiple traits, namely determination, patience, bravery, integrity, perseverance, kindness, and justice; if true, a soulless Chara would be lacking these qualities, which would make them less equipped to resist the player’s commands or to feel as torn up about it.
Also, the player has a hold on them both as “party members” to the player’s vessels, but it is also possible that the player naming Chara and having them directly attached to Frisk also gives them a stronger connection to Chara they can abuse, similar to how Kris and Frisk (as the player’s direct vessels) have much less autonomy than Kris’ party members.
(Fun observation: We know that when the thing controlling Kris forced Noelle into becoming a killer and using her to kill Berdly, Kris was horrified and shaken-up according to Susie and Ralsei. How do you think Frisk felt watching Chara be used to slaughter the Underground and then erasing the world when they’re totally corrupted?)
And lastly... look, Noelle and Chara are both minors, but Chara is significantly younger - a small child compared to Noelle’s teen. I know it’s fiction and strong wills and determination and anime is real and all, but a traumatized young child who died two violent and awful deaths back-to-back, may have literally experienced being a corpse in their own coffin/grave for who knows how long, and then came back ”confused” only to immediately start hearing a voice relentlessly commanding them to kill everyone?? I can absolutely see a traumatized kid shutting down and just going with it out of fear at first, before the LV sets in.
TLDR:
What you do to Noelle in the Weird Route is the same fucking thing you do to Chara in the Kill-All Route.

Captured by DeckofDragons! What’s that? More protective dadtcher? Don’t mind if I do owo
Revenge and a Little Bit More by owlcakes has a similar premise, but DANG it’s long. To summarize, Empress gets REKT lmbo
Reliving An Old Nightmare by Erekio is about Snatcher suddenly finding himself human again... and back in the past. There’s an element of mystery to it, so I won’t say much else, but every chapter is accompanied by illustrations! Erekio has redrawn a few of them here on tumblr :)
Dwellings of the Ancient Gods by Nosferatank is super well written, and involves some Twilight Bell shenanigans :)
Chapter 3: Contractual Obligations by Ina (CosmicKouhai) is part of a larger AU where all the bosses go into their respective Purple Time Rifts with Hat Kid, I think? It’s pretty cool!
Snowcon Forest by ImmortalCoalecanth is AMAZING and I definitely recommend you read it!! It was one of the first things I read for this fandom, and what got me into dadtcher <3

Beware the Frozen Heart by NanixErka is a cool concept, wherin the thing that happens to Anna in Frozen basically happens to Hat Kid D:
Do you think your love could transcend time and space? by twip/twipsai is a soulmate AU with tons of found family and fluff that I‘m sucking up like Rumbi ;w;
Familial Obligations by BumblingBriars is about Snatcher finding Hat Kid as a baby, and raising her :D It indirectly inspired BGDC! But that’s a story for another time, haha.

Nothing Special by ToothpasteDragon is based on MonsterMonsoon’s borrower AU so you know I’m gonna eat it up :’)
Also Wrong Place at the Wrong Time by ToothpasteDragon, based on MonsterMonsoon’s monster AU! (There’s a bit of blood in this one)
Recall by Galakii features a time loop, which is cool!
What’s in a Name by Raeolu involves shenanigans with the pronunciation of Hat Kid’s real name. Always a fun one ^^
The Part-Time Puppeteer by Erekio is also pretty funny! It’s based on the puppet AU by Fedoraspooky which I love <3 Aaa musical theatre and theatre in general is my favorite :D
I’ve also been following A Cloak in Time’s Trials by ElectricBlaster, which gives Hat Kid a shipmate for her adventures! It has a large focus on an OC, Cloak Kid, which may not be for everyone, but I like him :)
And FINALLY, be kind (rewind) by fivers, featuring another time loop and four whole dads! Have I mentioned yet that I am also an absolute sucker for found family 👀
(I’d also like to mention that idk if they count as fanfics but I enjoy MysteryMan_17’s AU Concept write-ups :D)
Phew, finally! I probably forgot at least one tbh, if I remember any I’ve forgotten I’ll edit this ^^ AND, absolutely no pressure to any authors of the unfinished fics to complete them! I completely understand losing motivation and/or interest in something, and your mental and physical health are more important than any silly fanfiction ^^

This is my “Viktor has never been a stereotypical evil villain, you guys are just mean” post.
Hi. Well. That says it all, really, but I guess I should elaborate. I think that Viktor has always been a victim of society [cue Joker meme], it’s just that what society has shifted over the course of his lore update.
With new lore, it’s very clearly Piltover casting him out for his (in my opinion, pretty unethical from the get-go) ideas on free will/worker safety/etc. and that subsequently making him worse. But with his previous lore - what I run off of on this blog - I’ve seen a lot of commentary about how he’s always just been “evil”, or that his motivations weren’t defined, etc. And while I can agree that his old lore certainly has less of a word count (5x less, actually) and doesn’t make his motives crystal-clear, it’s just not true that his original incarnation was just a villainous scientist. (Nor is it true that he was perceived as one by his old fans!) It takes a little bit of looking at Blitzcrank’s lore, and the Journal of Justice (hey, remember that?) to see, but it’s there... So, here goes. I’m sorry for how long this ended up being (2k words!) - it ended up touching on a lot more than just Viktor.
Viktor’s always been stolen from. (Except for Blitzcrank’s newest lores, which contradict Viktor’s new lore, which... That’s a topic for another time.) It’s always been Professor Stanwick Pididly (now Professor Stanwick) who’s done the stealing - originally, he was a professor at Zaun’s “prestigious College of Techmaturgy”. In new lore, he’s a professor at an unnamed academy in Piltover. I think the best way to track the new/old changes is bullet-points, rather than writing this all out. Tumblr doesn’t allow T-charts, sadly.
Professor Pididly in old lore:
Zaunite professor.
Stole Blitzcrank (well, the accolades for developing Blitz’s sentience) from Viktor and Viktor’s doctoral team. (While this is headcanon, I’ve always assumed that Stanwick was Viktor’s (and Viktor’s team’s) doctoral advisor. I can’t quite imagine how else he’d pull off stealing a group project like that.) Viktor subsequently withdrew from the college and “barricaded himself in his private laboratory”. (Which is his house in my personal take, because really - what sort of doctoral student can afford a lab?)
Blitzcrank’s case reached Zaun’s legal system, resulting in a “legal maelstrom” (Blitz’s original lore) that ended with Stanwick presumably being legally declared Blitzcrank’s creator.
Blitzcrank’s lore states that “most now know the truth” in regards to who his creator is. This is important for later, so stick that in your back pocket.
Pididly is referred to as “Professor Pididly” in JoJ issues 3, 18, and 23, which are given the dates of August of 20CLE, March of 21 CLE, and June of 21 CLE.
Side note: According to Orianna’s judgment, which is dated May of 21 CLE - stay with me here, it’ll make sense - Blitzcrank entered the League “years before”. As League at this time was mostly running in time with the real world, this makes sense - Blitzcrank was a 2009 champion and Orianna was released in 2011. Judgments seem to be dated to a few days before a champion’s release, in order to tie with the lore - one had to be “Judged” before made a champion... but I’m rambling. Anyways, years before, back pocket.
Is referred to as “Chairman Pididly” in JoJ issue 27, dated August of 21 CLE. “Chairman” seems to be a title given to those in political power in Zaun. Another example is Chairman Magnus Dunderson, Zaun’s “Chief Executive” (issue 5). (I could’ve sworn that there is canonically a “Board of Executives” in old lore Zaun, but scrubbing through the JoJ on the wiki hasn’t turned it up - just Blitzcrank’s lore mentioning the “Council of Zaun”. Maybe it was fanon? Anyways.) Back pocket!
Also stole some work from Viktor in order to revive Urgot. Urgot’s revival was reported on in issue 3 of the JoJ, and the confirmation that it was from Viktor’s work is in Viktor’s original lore.
Professor Stanwick (Pididly? I feel like they ditched his last name because it was “too silly”, also because Stanwick sounds British-adjacent anyways and that’s Piltover’s “thing” - but anyways) in new lore:
Piltovian professor.
Stole Blitzcrank from Viktor alone, who made the robot to help clean up a specific chemical spill. Viktor went to Zaun for a few weeks and came back to find that Stanwick had “held a symposium on Blitzcrank and presented Viktor's research as his own”. Viktor subsequently continued on his studies, culminating with him later being expelled for “violating basic human dignity”. Viktor returns to a laboratory that he had in Zaun.
Blitzcrank’s case is solely a university matter. Viktor petitions Jayce to help support his claim, but Jayce is Jayce and doesn’t help out. The “matter [is] decided in Professor Stanwick’s favor”.
Blitzcrank’s lore doesn’t really say anything about if people know that Viktor made him (them, technically, but Riot doesn’t get to make the robot non-binary), but I guess it’s implied in the 3rd iteration? (That would be the first new one, after the IoW retcon making most champions’ 2nd lores being the same lore with any reference to the titular League of Legends removed.) He works with Viktor in that one. It doesn’t fit with Viktor’s updated lore at all, actually, because it mentions Stanwick absolutely zero times. (A post for another day...)
Has nothing to do with Urgot, since Urgot’s different now.
So, the general plot of “professor rips off a student” is there, it’s just got an added layer of “professor rips off a foreign/out-group student” in new lore to tie into the overarching idea of Piltover exploiting Zaun. (Is Zaun considered foreign? Yes? No? It’s sort of textually implied sometimes to be another city, but can it actually be when it’s physically underneath Piltover? Is the metaphor in new lore a class thing, then? Is it both? Am I supposed to take Viktor’s Russian accent into account when reading this text? I don’t know.) Anyways, so far so... same, in the broad strokes. Unless Viktor’s villainy in old lore is specifically because someone from his city ripped him off, I don’t know how you can compare new/old lore and say that old painted him as a villain.
But what about the everything else I put there? We’re getting there - that’s part of Viktor’s in-universe stuff. I’m taking a quick detour out of universe, to Jayce’s very first lore...
Which had Viktor stealing a techmaturgical device from Jayce. While I can’t cite this, sadly - thank you, Riot deleting the old forums and me not having the patience to look through archives at the moment - there was a backlash around this on the forums. Why would Viktor, a character who’d been stolen from, steal in turn? So Jayce’s second lore, the one that most people were familiar with before the new lore update, was made. Now Viktor stole a crystal after trying to partner with Jayce, Jayce was less well-established as an inventor, he had a bit more character... All good things. (Also, this is probably where the new lore direction of them being former college colleagues come from.)
Also, as an aside: this is the first use I can see of crystals specifically being described as arcane power sources... The only other discussion of magical crystals was the Brackern... which was then merged into magical crystals having to be from the Brackern... Which means that...

But anyways! Clearly Viktor fans didn’t see him as a villain in 2012, or at least not one that would victimize others in the same way that he’d been hurt. They made such a fuss about it that Jayce’s lore was changed to paint Viktor more sympathetically! (When’s the last time that there’s been that much backl- oh. It’s Seraphine again. Anyways.) So, again, Viktor’s perception as an evil scientist mostly seems to have come from people who weren’t really familiar with his lore. So... case closed?
Except that I also want to talk about in-universe things! Everything that I told you to put in your back pocket! Because this post is already over a thousand words and I have thrown myself firmly into this vortex.
Viktor’s victimization by society [Joker meme] is actually probably worse in old lore, which is a fact that I think has been pretty overlooked. While new lore Viktor gets kicked back down to Zaun and gets his work stolen in academia - with Stanwick presumably never being questioned on whether or not he made Blitzcrank, because there’s that whole “Zaunites are bad” thread that is both in and out of universe... Old lore Viktor sure does get it worse, although I admit that this requires some interpretation of canon. His thing with Blitzcrank was, again, a “legal maelstrom” - and with Blitzcrank being considered a Zaunite celebrity before this court case, it seems relatively easy/logical to infer that this maelstrom was a very public case.
So all of Zaun gets to see Viktor crash and burn in court. I’d say that’s a bit worse than just academia seeing it, as is the case in new lore.
And then there’s Blitzcrank’s lore flat-out saying that “most now know the truth” about who made him. (While this lore does predate Viktor’s existence - isn’t it odd to think about a Blitzcrank made by a faceless team of generic doctoral students, rather than Viktor... and a faceless team of generic doctoral students? - I see no reason not to take it as canonical for Viktor’s original lore. There’d been minor lore touchups before, so if Riot wanted Viktor’s creation of Blitzcrank to be an unknown... they could have edited Blitzcrank’s lore.) But Viktor’s still on the fringes, and nothing in his lore (which, again, was written years after Blitzcrank’s) seems to acknowledge that by the time he enters the League we have confirmation, date-wise, that it’s been years since the truth came out. (Orianna Judgment, etc.) That’s to say: people knowing that Viktor made Blitzcrank does nothing for him - he gets no apologies or anything like that.
Of course, if you take League lore as happening concurrently and nix the Judgments and the League, I guess that this is tenuous - but working within the framework of when he was released, it seems clear to me that the implication of all this lore is (whether it was intended by Riot to be read this way or not) that no one in Zaun cares that Viktor was stolen from. It’s an open secret. No one’s seeking justice for him. But it gets worse...!
So, it’s generally known that Stanwick didn’t make Blitzcrank by the time that the JoJ is running. And he’s just a professor for most of the run of that part of the lore, until... Issue 27. In which he becomes Chairman Pididly, someone who is now implied to have political power. (I have to assume he gets the position due to the political goodwill from Noxus that his revival of Urgot must have brought Zaun, but that’s just interpretation.) But! Even though most people know that Stanwick didn’t make Blitzcrank - that he stole Blitzcrank - he ends up not losing his university job (he’s still Professor Pididly for most of the JoJ, after all) but... gaining political office!
All of this is to say that Zaun is so crooked that you can have the fact that you stole from someone and ruined their life revealed... and get a promotion to government! You can shatter an idealistic man who had a “hope to better society” and make him into someone like the Machine Herald and face absolutely zero repercussions. I think that that is significantly worse than how new lore Viktor’s victimization by Piltover consisted of an academia-only dispute that left him with just some bitterness... New Viktor was, after all, kicked out of Piltovian academia for ethics violations, not for Blitzcrank.
Everything surrounding old lore Viktor is a bit harder to piece together, since you have to look through a few lores and make a few inferences, which is why I think that people don’t realize exactly how bad he had it... (That and time erasing memories, or people being new to the fandom, or people not being interested in Viktor, or...) But he had it bad, and I’m honestly disappointed that we never got to explore much of Zaun’s particular brand of corporate corruption in canon. Now they’re the perpetual underdogs, both victims and villians, and Riot isn’t quite sure how to write them beyond constant exploitation from Piltover. (Even the chem-barons have taken somewhat of a backseat lately in new lore, from what I’ve seen - Piltover seems to be the primary cause of Zaun’s ills, because the combined region is now an upper city/lower city metaphor about class. The chem-barons just seem to be written as a result of Piltover’s ignoring of Zaun - because Zaun seems to be more of an undercity than a sovereign city or state, but that varies depending on whatever piece of lore you’re reading and... Another post, another time.)
So. TL;DR: Viktor’s always been a character who was victimized by a city, be it Zaun or Piltover. Viktor’s always been a character more complex than just a maniacal villain, although it takes more work to see that in his old lore as compared to his new. (His new pretty much screams “we are trying to make him and Jayce morally grey”, after all.) This victimization is arguably worse in old lore, as it’s implied that he went through a very public legal case that ended with Stanwick taking credit for Blitzcrank. In addition to that, Stanwick’s subsequent shift to politics implies that Zaun is so corrupt that most everyone knowing that he’s a thief isn’t an issue at all. He’s untouchable.
Viktor’s always been the result of an idealistic man being crushed by a society that doesn’t care for him and his dreams. That’s nothing new.

headcanon dump below. they probably aren’t super original but I :)
I also just wanna mention a thought I had: I suspect we will b seeing morpho knight in a main game storyline in the next game, since he was gonna appear in the Kirby GCN (I assume this means they had quite a bit of lore and stuff to go with him so they’ve had him prepared for a while). also consider: Kirby RtD was the replacement. The next few games where meta knight is fought, he has yellow eyes. Basically my theory is that they didn’t want to have two characters with white eyes (probably so there wasn’t any conflicting lore idk) so they just went and changed meta knight’s because they deemed that the most plausible option. this also could actually serve as more proof of morpho being much more important to the lore of the series, even aside from his supposed appearances as a butterfly. I bet he is gonna have something to do with the warp star (concept for Kirby GCN was that dedede stole Kirby’s warp star so morpho was somehow involved) - Most puffballs only have one or two abilities, or can broaden magic use through one ability (eg galacta Knight’s attacks, for example, are all used through the base sword ability however aren’t limited to that). - Kirby is unique as he has the copy ability (which counts as one ability in itself rather than hundreds). it’s an almost legendary ability with no other recorded holders. Special baby boy.
- Although puffballs do have to consume a lot of food to deal with being partly composed of potent magic (as well as using it), Kirby has to consume sooo much more. he’s not a glutton (as the books describe), he is just hungry almost all of the time because he’s always beating the shit out of eldritch beings. The novels annoyed me so much with this aspect of Kirby!!!!!! he’s not that shallow!!! baby boy is just trying to physically cope with being able to slap the shit out of cult gods!!!
- Kirby’s copy ability works by basically inhaling an object/opponent with a specific magic signature, then concentrating it into a strengthened version of that ability Kirby can then utilise (hence his “infinite power”). - Kirby can’t deal with immense amounts of magic for a long period of time, as it also uses his own magic/energy up in the process. This is why normal copy abilities are fine for an extended period of time, and the super copy abilities have a time limit on them. (This is also why he can’t just go inhale void termina or some shit bc he would probably end up imploding. it’s also why the crash ability is single use)
- The super abilities basically involve Kirby combining a small amount of his own energy with the magic signature of the ability, and then concentrating it, producing a much stronger version of the original ability. Kirby probably ended up putting in a much larger amount of his own energy when trying to defeat magolor. (Ultra sword go brr)
- Puffballs eventually get wings at some stage in their life. They usually get them after a few hundred years but they can appear early if conditions are bad enough. Kirby’s will probably be feathered. I think the lore of the series will benefit from having two pink puffballs with feathered wings. pls also note the halberd mode robobot armour has softer looking wings, and the visor Kirby has on the star allies sparkler has little wings on the side of it.
- Meta Knight and king dedede did eventually get over their rivalry with Kirby. The events of KRtD were definitely a big part of it, and by the end of it they were probably pretty good friends. They both realised Kirby was way too strong for either of them to beat, and did have Dreamland’s interests in mind. Since Kirby is also only a kid they also felt compelled to act more adult-like, rather than trying to beat the shit out of a child.
- After the events of KRtD, king dedede basically invited Kirby, mk, and bandee to the castle for an overnight stay, since everyone was exhausted by the end of the ordeal. Although breakfast the following morning was tense at first, Dedede basically explained he wanted to formally end any rivalry he had with Kirby, and encouraged meta knight to do the same.Meta Knight still secretly wanted to beat Kirby at least once but the events of both planet robobot and star allies probably ruined it for him
- King dedede is actually a fairly competent leader, despite mainly just being a representative for dreamland as a whole. It did take him a while to grow into his role, but after he let go of his rivalry with Kirby he really settled in. He’s generally pretty placid on most days, and plays a lot of board games with the dees.King dedede invites bandee, Kirby, and mk for morning tea/lunch every now and then. The castle kitchen usually has to prepare at very least a day in advance to accomodate Kirby’s appetite.
- Kirby isn’t allowed more than 3 cups of tea or half a cup of weak coffee. the first time ddd ever invited Kirby for tea he did not consider how Kirby would respond to any amount of caffeine.
- Kirby is probably closest with mk, especially since Kirby knows mk looks very similar to him. He doesn’t ask mk about it though, as he sees that’s a very personal question.
- Mk acts as more of a very uninvolved father figure/mentor, mainly since Kirby is pretty independent and can defend himself.
- He regularly trains Kirby with the sword ability. Meta Knight used to originally do this to try and memorise Kirby’s attack patterns given that they may fight again in the future, but, as mentioned before, doesn’t do this anymore. He feels guilty about it.
-Meta Knight taught Kirby how to read. Kirby is a fairly proficient reader, although he likes to read cooking books the most because of all the pictures.
-Kirby is good at cooking, even without the copy ability.
- Meta Knight owns what could be considered a small library. Kirby is allowed to borrow a book or two for about a week at a time. He is forbidden from the horror section due to the one time where he accidentally chose a particularly scary one and wouldn’t leave castle dedede for a week.
-Kirby doesn’t speak in poyo. I don’t have much else to say on this. -Kirby can be a little shit on very rare occasions. Dedede tried to prank Kirby once by getting him to eat a very very spicy curry. Unbeknownst to dedede at the time, Kirby has a very high heat tolerance, and would probably have to eat something more than 1 million on the Scoville scale to actually feel distress. Kirby noticed that it was unusually hot, and that dedede was watching him intently. He pretended it wasn’t spicy at all, then persuaded dedede to try it.
-Dedede does not have a heat tolerance anywhere near as high as Kirby’s.

Hello I hope you're having a nice day. Do you have any thoughts on bretons? For some reason I really liked playing as bretons in tes. Nowadays I lean more towards dunmer but I still fondly remember my first skyrim playthrough with my vampire lord breton lady and her wife serana.
i feel like the bretons have been done dirty by later games and they SHOULD be one of the coolest races. they’re on par with the dunmer when it comes to complex political intrigue and backstabbery, and daggerfall gave them some very fun lore (i particularly love the gameplay-explaining “giving people quests is breton culture” thing)
unfortunately they were collateral damage in oblivion along with the imperials, and outside of that, i’ve just... never managed to take much of an interest in them, for some reason, probably because they’re the most egregious example of boring writers wanting to make everything into “medieval europe II”, which unfortunately is a time period i just do not care about. i don’t think they were handled much better in the daggerfall covenant (like i’m sorry but the only parts of DC i found interesting were alik’r and bangkorai) so i just. have a severe paucity of breton headcanons.
i think one of the reasons they fail to engage me is that the lore doesn’t really establish whether much of high rock exists under feudalism-- the lore, with all its counts and ladies and kings and city-states and minor kingdoms, suggests that it does, but i can’t think of many instances where this is addressed.
one cool thing the bretons do have going for them are things like the reachmen, the glenmoril wyrd, and other non-feudalistic ‘tribes’. actually now that i think about it, if i were writing about bretons i’d probably characterize high rock as a little bit like early roman era italy or gaul, where you have various nomadic cultures coming into conflict with, and gradually being subsumed by, more powerful agricultural feudal empires. the direnni influence over the area helps explain how so many minor kingdoms and city-states were able to establish, and feudalism is one method to transform independent populations into subjugated peoples. like that’s definitely an angle you could take
unfortunately the lore just treats high rock as “medieval europe II″ so it never rly grabbed my attention

this is what happens when u enable me lets go
(spoilers ahoy)
Firstly, here’s some somewhat miscellaneous reasons that don’t contribute to any sort of narrative analysis but are still parts of the character I like.
His boss fight is my favorite in the game thus far. It’s not super hard, but it isn’t super easy either, and I even managed to solo it on my Balance after a few practice rounds. Sufficiently challenging without feeling unfair.
His boss fight music. It is a bop and a half, go give it a listen, my soul ascends from my body a few centimeters every time I hear it start up.
His voice. I’m sure it’s processed at least a little but gotdamn his voice is so deep and spooky it startled me when I first heard it. Very curious who his actor is; I think he and Inyanga Whitestripes share the same one. Either way, very well voiced and acted.
His design is very good. It’s the perfect mix of innocuous but also spooky sorcerer fella who knows some shit. And I was afraid that the designers would try and make him like. Handsome? Under the hood? To try and make him more sympathetic? But they didn’t and I’m glad for it.
With those out of the way, the next thing to establish, I guess: I don’t interpret Old Cob to be the main villain of arc 3, nor do I interpret Raven as such. They’re definitely antagonists, but they’re not the ultimate problem; the ultimate problem is their divorce, and how they keep dragging people into their bs. It’s established the Aethyr is a physical manifestation of their anger towards each other, and as it thins, communication between them becomes possible, as Sparck puts it in this thinly veiled metaphor toward the start of Empyrea part 2.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But Cob’s still an antagonist and I love him so I’m gonna talk about that. Most of this is going to be talking about his motivations for doing what he does, since I don’t see him quite as the ‘likes to watch the world burn for the hell of it’ archetype that others might.
One of the reasons that drew me to his character is how legit his gripe is, when put in perspective. Old Cob- or Grandfather Spider, if you prefer- is not a mortal like the other antagonists of previous arcs, which establishes he has a different thought process right off the bat. This new universe was built on his suffering and he has a grudge against the ex wife who made it, so as a god, it makes some sense he’d try to destroy it and build one he would like better. He’s fully aware that what he is doing will hurt people but decidedly doesn’t care, and I appreciate that so much. He’s chaotic as fuck and he owns it, along with his superiority complex that’s as wide as the day is long.
Tumblr media
Yet his reasoning is like. Weirdly understandable? Like, if my ex-whatever put me in jail for a lifetime sentence and stole my kidney to pay for a new house or something, I too would go apeshit and want my fuckin kidney back. That’s mostly how I interpret his situation. He’s not doing this for hell of it, he’s doing it because he wants to get back at his ex because he’s bitter and petty and for the most part he knows this but he feels justified in doing do because she ripped out his goddamn kidney- I mean heart, and he wants that back.
And then, even after all that, he and his magic are treated as if they’re inherently evil. While, sure, Shadow is a ‘dark magic’, its actual properties aren’t anything malicious by itself. It is described as “a magic that changes reality,” and that’s it. Incredibly exploitable and you should practice caution while handling it, but used correctly it is powerful and helpful; this is likely alluding to the backlash mechanic, where likes decrease the percent of damage you take, dislikes increase the percent, and I imagine the person meant to be the literal embodiment of the magic in question to be similar in nature: not inherently harmful and lashes out if he feels he’s been mistreated.
Going off that, I’m not sure he ever wanted the FirstWorld to be destroyed, and therefore believes his incarceration to be entirely unjust; he doesn’t deny that he instigated the fight between the Titans, but when it comes to being accused of its actual destruction, he gets angry.
Tumblr media
...Okay the written text doesn’t really display how mad he got here, but he was like. Big Angy. Super offended. Honestly, a big part of why I love and analyze the hell out of his character comes from how his VA delivers his lines and his voice in general. If you haven’t heard it for some reason, I recommend looking it up. Anyway, here he’s basically saying he didn’t destroy the First World, and even if he did, he’s suffered enough punishment because of it, to my interpretation. The only one I remember blaming him for it is Raven; Bartleby was there, and I don’t recall him blaming anything other than the Titans for it. This is of course not accounting for the various changes made to the lore since he was introduced, but they could have easily thrown in a line like ‘And now Spider plans to destroy the Spiral the way he destroyed the FirstWorld!’ or something to make it clear it was done intentionally.
And this may very well be straying into headcanon territory here, but I think he holds positive relationships very closely to him, even if things went sour in the end; he clearly still has some remaining affection for the Titans, calling them ‘the children’ and being incredibly angry at Raven for forcing one of them to destroy his Heart.
When Rat loses in Polaris he shows up to praises his efforts and even comfort him, in his own weird way. He reprimanded Scorpion in Mirage, but it’s because Scorpion wasn’t doing what his dad asked him to and got his ass kicked as a result. As for Bat, every time they’re in the same room together he pays him some sort of compliment.
Tumblr media
Bat claims that he and his brothers are meant to be his tools, and to some extent that’s true, but he also genuinely cares about them, and it’s really interesting to see a villain defect from the usual ‘not caring about anyone other than themselves’ and openly show affection for his kids while still managing to be an incredible asshole.
In line with this is his relationship with the Wizard. There is, of course, a foundation of manipulation to their dynamic, at least to some degree. I thoroughly believe that Spider was overshadowing Coleridge, at least partly, so our character could bust him out of prison.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And while this is happening, he regains some of his spent power and removes threats to it as well, namely Morganthe, using the Wizard’s help. In fact, I have very little doubt that he was at least partially responsible for her fall; his timing on that two-liner was too on the nose.
Tumblr media
But even with that, I think he genuinely treasures the Wizard’s help and company, which is why he attempts on four different occasions to either sway them to his side, or warn them away from what he’s doing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Boy, I want that vacation, but it’s your fault I’m here.
And then, of course, his relationship with Raven, something that is basically a summation of his character arc. Laden with baggage and tragic in concept, it is my belief that most of what he’s doing isn’t because he genuinely hates the Spiral or he wants to get back at her, but because he loved her and treasured their relationship; so upon her mistreating him, he lashed out at everything she’d made and detested it as a result. But only because he felt betrayed and hurt so he has to inflict that on other people because he is, as aforementioned, a petty and bitter old fuck.
Moving off that line of thinking, an admirable quality he possesses is how smart he is. This guy has so many wrinkles in his brain it must look like a raisin. Well, perhaps not ‘smart’ exactly, but how good he is at manipulating certain situations to his advantage. Like in Mirage; you just know that he was fully expecting Mellori to be there and fully planned to use her as a back up plan, or you could even argue that the whole debacle in Mirage was a ploy to get his hands on her, while having the added possible benefit of things actually working out.
Actually his scheme in Mirage was really interesting now that I think about it. His aim was to turn back time to when the FirstWorld was whole, further implying that he never wanted its destruction in the first place. It would also, of course, be a time where he had his Heart and would have the ability to avoid having it ripped out again. This would involve not having the Titans fight each other again, or at least not starting it and suffering the consequences. It would be everything he wanted to achieve knocked out in one go with minimal muss or fuss, compared to other methods. It’s probably a part of why he shows up personally to bargain with Eerkala and the Cabal, and why he directly intervenes in our Wizard’s efforts to stop him; it was too important to trust to any of his kids, so knowing Scorpion probably wouldn’t have been able to execute it anyway, he used his kid as a distraction for the most part.
I also like looking into the fact that his element, besides Shadow, is Storm, as opposed to pure Shadow or Death, as most major antagonists are. Storm is a school based on invention, experimentation and improvement. This is something that interests me for two reasons: one, the magic of major antagonists is always a part of their character, Malistaire the most blatantly, and two, because of this line he says in Mirage.
Tumblr media
To my interpretation, this would imply that he sees the Spiral as something that could be improved. And as a god, he would of course find it his obligation to try and fix this flaw. When he made the barter with the Cabal, I don’t doubt he was being at least partially honest about restoring the FirstWorld; it would certainly fix the flaw it has in the context of stealing his internal organs, but he would also probably seek to improve it, make it more suited to Shadow or something.
Something else I find intriguing is how weirdly honest he is; I don’t recall him ever lying to us once, unless you count omitting certain facts as lying. But that’s absolutely something I can see him using against people, like “I didn’t lie to you, I just didn’t tell you, your fault for not asking ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ .” As said before, he;s really good at manipulating people and he weaponizes whatever he can; @that-wizard-oki made a really great post about how he uses conflicts- his fault or not- to his advantage, and does his own thing in the background without interruption, Mirage and Neumia probably being the best example of this, with Scorpion and the Cabal serving as distractions while he either carries out things himself or gives instructions.
To pull all of this together narratively, I think it’s important to consider this line from Mellori during one of their confrontations:
Tumblr media
He feels powerless, so he puffs up his god status. He has little power to fight with, compared to before, so he mostly manipulates and creates back-up plans while causing conflicts to serve as distractions. His love hurt him, so he lashes out at others and drags them into his problems.
You may ask, “But Sam, these are all bad qualities, why should we like him because of this?” And I would respond “Because it makes him a complex and interesting antagonist.” The kind of character that executes his shitty actions in such a way that you can’t help but respect- even just for the level of dramatics put in to it- while also having a motive that makes you stop and consider that maybe he has a point but is very much handling the situation the wrong way.
Like, c’mon, he ticks so many villain boxes. Tragic backstory? Check. Blatant thespian who owns it? Check. Gets his hands dirty before the climax of the story? Check. Smart/ manipulative/ has back-up plans? Check. Understandable, strong motives? Check.
He’s got layers. Like onion. I felt like there was always something new to discover about him, and for that I can assert my opinion that he’s one of the best characters in Wizard101.
lmao if you read this far into my simp-for-shithead post congrats. feel free to shoot me more asks on the subject bc i cant write persuasive-essay-esque format anymore my brain is rotting. if you will excuse me, im off to listen to the chronoverge combat track for the 82937487734th time
