There seems to be a general malaise on most of Tumblr about TikTok getting banned in the United States.

I understand the problems, "brain rot", whatever but- A government banning a social media app that opened the world for many people is legitimately scary and upsetting. Say what you want but, there are MANY global and local issues that would not have gotten the same traction, recognition, and outreach without TikTok.

And then add to this that Meta/Facebook was one the largest lobbyists working to get TikTok banned... Like- I think folks should be more concerned about the implications of what this means, especially since the ban goes into effect the day before inauguration.

You see I think they really fucked up by not giving that McDonald’s employee the money. If they had just given him the reward, it would’ve been encouragement for us to turn on each other, kick others down so we might get a leg up, to struggle another day in their system. Divide and conquer. But by not giving this person the sixty grand, (pennies to them), they have proven once and for all that betraying your class will not help you. They have proven that we have to unite to get anything done. Their greed brought them to the top, their greed let this desperation and anger fester, and their greed will be their downfall. You know what, I'm so grateful for every single Steve Rogers lover on this site. The people who haven't let their opinion of him be influenced by bad writing, who have continued to love and support him even in the face of all the mischaracterisations and slander (worse than ever now thanks to EG), and who actively keep the true Steve Rogers alive and well in their fannish creations. Pretty much everybody loves Bucky (as they should!! Bucky is incredible and I love him just as much as I love Steve) but Steve doesn't get nearly enough love these days and it breaks my heart, and would no doubt break Bucky's heart too.

The real Steve Rogers is such a complex, wonderful, interesting, loveable and good character, who deserved so much better than he got. And I'm just really glad that despite the majority of people not being able to recognise that, there are still plenty of people out here who do know him, and who love him no matter what drivel Marvel tries to sell us about him. It's just very heartening to know he's still got all of us, so thank you all for that 💙
