@dynamicsimp hope ya like it!
EYESHOT AU DITY
I literally did this in one day- help.
So yeah, I tried out the gosh-dang challenge and honestly?
Quite happy with how it came out! It was very interesting and actually very fun working on a piece with a monochrome pink palette!
Gosh, I haven't gotten to use my REAL lineless style (I use it for stickers but I haven't done any stickers in forever) where all the cel shading is real harsh and as it says in the title: no outline.
Lately, I've been more focused on lighting and texture in my digital works and just making everything 'softer' and more 'realistic' but dang, I forgot how much I missed just using my harsh and more cartoony style.
But because it looked good, here's the one with some light:
I am very happy especially since I do believe there is some improvement in the style.
(In that it doesn't look as amateur as when I first started out. But I think that's mostly cause I used monochrome here)
Does anyone else get that struggle? Feeling like you're not advancing then keep pushing yourself to change and improve but also really missing the original style?
Anyways some of y'all might be wondering where I've been for pride month....
I PROMISE IT'S NOT CAUSE I HATE PRIDE MONTH OR LGBTQ+ PLEASE PUT YOUR PITCHFORKS DOWN!!!!!
Mainly it has mostly been art block and just demotivation especially since I'm STILL WORKING ON THAT BIG PROJECT UGHHGHHHGGGHHGG.
(I'm not blaming y'all I'm just feral)
And just general procrastination.
BUT.
I do have another project in the works. So to any of my lovely marshiemallows who have seen my previous posts,
you'd know that I'm very...opinionated about Macaque. More specifically his attitude in canon and how the fandom treats him.
(Keep in mind the thing was planned before s5)
DISCLAIMER: Again, I do enjoy Mac's character. I just think he's a bit of a d!ck and kinda hates how a lot of the fandom (not all) brushes that over and throws the bucket of Wukong's sins down on the king's head.
(I also would not hesitate to wack him with a stop sign on the chopping block if given the chance /hj)
But without further ado I decided to do something other than complain and present you guys this:
Yay! So if you're into Macaca bullying, join the Mac bullying train! CHOO CHOO!
(also big thanks to @furornocturna for beta reading and helping with characterizations and stuff. There will be another post just detailing bout the fic later but yea go check them out, their work's great)
AND HAPPY ANIVERSARY TO DYNAMICSIMP FOR THE AU!

I feel like you're the right person to talk to this about:
I wanna tie König down to the bed and spend all day kisses those ridiculous muscles while he shakes and moans and begs for more. Big teddy bear needs some lovin' before you ride him until he breaks
Honey, Honey
Pairing: König x reader
Content Warning: smut (18+), hints of m!sub to m!dom, hints of enemies to lovers, use of a knife to cut clothes, tying up, teasing, spanking, biting, established messy relationship, no use of y/n or mention of gender/race
This isn't exactly what you asked for, but also this is my house and I make the rules so... have this as a treat
-🍯-
“And how did you picture this working out for you, hm?” König crooned, eyes positively deadly over the honey sweet veneer of his smile.
A little thrill of fear zipped through your belly, but you were resolute in ignoring it, unshaking as you chased off thoughts of abandoning your plan. Instead you straddled him and tested the tight bonds holding him in place, giving a little tug on each of the heavy ropes that held his hands in their strong red threads. You looked back at his squirming ankles for good measure too, satisfied when you could see he was powerless to do little else than writhe. He was all yours to do with as you pleased.
“Well, exactly like this I suppose,” you shrugged. “I don’t think I have to worry about you getting your revenge anytime soon - not when I’m about to get sent away on a contract for three months after this. I’ll make sure to phone Horangi to come get you when I’m on the plane, of course. I’m nice like that.”
“How generous of you to plan to free me.”
“As fucked up as we are, I’d rather not have a poor maid find you.”
“You don’t think I’d get myself out eventually?” he chuckled, tilting his chin at you.
“Oh no, not out of these bindings. I learnt from the best after all,” you said with a wink.
He rolled his eyes, damn well knowing he’d been the one to show you exactly how to tie someone else up like this. Clearly he’d never accounted for giving away his trade secrets to the enemy. However, he’d have to admit that he had started letting his guard down with you more and more recently. König always said that showing you his face was his ruin.
That face. It looked at you now with a full palette with emotions, anger and admiration and lust all splattered onto the scarred and mottled exterior to create a picture straight out of your fantasies. His blue eyes were burning like oil on the surface of water and his lip curled at you, snarling in challenge. Tame me then.
You leant down, letting your eyelids droop with raw want and slipped your hands over his wide shoulders, admiring the bumpy flesh that so rarely got to receive such gentle caresses. Even that hint of affection seemed to have König’s face easing, the long scar on the side of his eye not seeming so stretched anymore. His conspicuous sigh of anticipation only confirmed it.
A smile faintly burst onto your lips. Merely the idea of a kiss seemed to break his facade - how would he react when you delved further into your plans? You bit your lip at the thought then lowered your head, hovering your lips dangerously close to his.
“Is all this just to tease me?” he whispered.
“Do you really think so little of me?”
“I don’t have to think anything,” he grunted. “You’re an infiltration expert for a reason, honey. You’re a professional tease.”
Honey. That’s what he called you ever since the first time he’d ever worked with you. It didn’t take long for him to reveal that it was short for Honey pot. When he bent you over a crappy hotel couch and chastised you for tempting him.
“I'd only be teasing myself at this point, König. If you could see what I’m seeing right now, you’d know you’re in for a real treat,” you grinned.
His nostrils flared and you could feel his chest swelling up with his ragged breaths. He could probably feel your desire just the same, you thought, knowing exactly how worked up you were from the way you were sitting barenaked right on top of him.
You made sure to grind yourself into his body when you finally kissed him, letting him feel the full hot measure of how worked up you were. You’d done everything not to make a mess of yourself while you were tying him up, but now you were unashamed and even smiling into his mouth as you pulled him close and felt the tickle of his groan.
His tongue worked its way over yours, perfectly warm and wet. You were happy granting him a little control while you threaded your hands into his hair. The gruff noises he made in the back of his throat were vibrating deep inside you. They were enough to send your senses into overdrive, almost enough for you to rip the ropes to shreds and let him have you. Though you remembered who was really in charge and smirked, drawing away from his mouth again and watching as his face fell.
“Let me have you. Undo the ropes and we’ll forget about this stupid stunt of yours,” he said breathily, almost growling as he roved his eyes over your body.
“What would be the fun in that?” you chastised, clicking your tongue at his arrogance.
“You get my cock and I won’t have to waste time planning a way to make you pay.”
“But knowing that is fun for me, I need to have something to look forward to,” you grinned, soon lowering yourself again and bringing your lips to his ear. “And you know as well as I do, I’ll get to have your cock anyway unless you use our safeword…so?”
He shivered, his body trembling like a mountain in an earthquake. His throat was like the tumbling rocks. When you rose back up again you knew you had him beat, as much as he always liked to be in charge, it was undeniable that he was actually getting into this. He’d never admit it, but that didn’t matter. The twitching length underneath you told you everything you needed to know.
“Do your worst, honey. I’ll get my revenge soon enough,” he huffed, lying back into the pillow in defeat.
“That’s a good boy, König. I knew you’d see reason!”
“Don’t you dare,” he seethed.
“Don’t dare what?” you asked, getting to work kissing along the sensitive flesh of his thick neck.
“I’m not anyone’s- don’t call me good boy,” he groaned, voice breaking just as you liked a featherlight stripe against his collarbone.
So dramatic. You huffed out a warm breath against his goosebumped flesh and nuzzled along it, watching for every little twitch and withheld moan that dared show itself on his traitorous body. You knew for a fact his mind would be reeling from all the attention, but you didn’t care. Not as long as he wasn’t telling you to stop.
“Ok, I won’t call you my good boy then…” you murmured, now focusing yourself at his left pec. “But don’t pretend like you aren’t shivering everytime I say it.”
He glared down at you, but it only made him look so much more stupid when he was tipping his head back right as you took his nipple into your mouth. You grazed it with your teeth and licked and sucked at it, revelling in the cacophony of little breaths that rushed out above you. Apparently it was too hard to admit he hated this anymore.
It probably didn’t help that your hand had been roaming down between his navel and thighs for a little while now. If his whimper was any indication, you’d stroked the fight right out of him when you palmed his dick over his boxers. Those would have to go - they’d be off already if you hadn’t been afraid that he’d wake up before you could secure him.
“You’re responding so well,” you praised, “Sure you’re not gonna want a repeat performance of this?”
“Oh honey, I’m gonna put a- ah-” he moaned, jerking as you played with his cock and slipped your hands over his balls at the same time. “Ah- fuck you.”
König was chuckling and moaning in equal measure, his body was a beautiful dichotomy of grunted protests and singing moans. You enjoyed getting to work him over, smiling like a born vixen as every movement drew out a new noise, filling the cheap hotel room with a lingering note of sex. It was a good thing neither of you had expensive tastes, you thought distantly, you’d have already been thrown out the night before and you’d have never have gotten to experience this.
“You’re gonna do what exactly?” you asked, tilting your head as you looked down at the writhing mess below you.
König’s eyes opened hazily and he shook his head, grinding his hips up and seeking the pressure that he so obviously wanted.
“I’m going to put a collar around you and make sure you remember who’s in charge of who. I’m going to fuck you until your legs don’t work anymore and then I’ll scrape you off the floor and parade you in the street for everyone to see!”
“Really? You will?” you asked, watching on with glee when you took your hand away and drew out a disappointed low whine. “Is that a promise?”
You leaned over and picked up one of your knives from the floor, curling your hand around the hilt tightly when you realised it was one of your own. The familiar weight felt right and when you readjusted yourself on top of him, you were happily able to drag the cold metal over the band of his underwear knowing for a fact that you wouldn’t hurt him with the angle you held it at.
König went stiff as a board underneath you and glared at you again, teeth baring as he worked out what you meant to do to him. He looked wildly from your hands and to your face, eyes practically broadcasting his revenge plot from the dark depths of his blown out pupils.
“Don’t even think about it,” he warned. “Just slide them down.”
“Or what?”
“I’ll make you regret it.”
“I hope so.”
The cotton fabric of his boxers was no match for your knife. It slashed through them in a few easy cuts, running through the material like butter, best of all not even grazing König’s already heavily scarred skin. You liked the drama of the knife, but you didn’t want to hurt him.
Truth be told though, he was furious - he’d probably rather be hurt than have to bother to replace his underwear. If he were a cartoon character his ears would be steaming. However if the redness in his face was anything to go by, he was probably as close to it as he’d get, he certainly felt burning to the touch. He'd had every dignity taken from him now. Though still he didn’t say Austria, and so you didn’t stop.
You tossed the knife onto the bedside table where it dropped with a thundering clatter and threw the black tatters of his boxers to the ground, revelling in the full straining length of his cock from underneath the shroud. It was enough to make you salivate. Your mouth filled and your heart thrummed in your chest, but still you held your composure and opted to ignore it for the moment. Instead returning to kissing around his body and only occasionally running your fingers gently over his dick and around the rough dark thatch of his pubic hair.
“You’re a ah- fucking bitch,” he groaned, voice much higher pitched than you were used to.
His voice was ragged, he was getting pushed further and further toward madness. You’d been working him for only a few minutes, but clearly it was too much. He needed to feel your actual touch on him, a firm hand. He was desperate, voice all breathy even while he tried in vain to pretend like it wasn’t getting to him.
“Those. Aren’t. Very. Sweet words,” you murmured, taking a break through each to kiss his straining abs that were now far more visible through the fat of his tummy.
“You’re supposed to be the sweet one, honey,” he sighed, arching again as you licked at the spot just underneath his navel.
“I’m being rather sweet to you now, no? I could be fully taking advantage of this predicament you’re in and riding on top of you, taking whatever I want from you, but I’m choosing to use this as an opportunity to worship you instead,” you sighed, running your hands up and down his hairy thighs, gently scratching at him enough to have him clenching his teeth.
“Worship? This isn’t worship - it’s torture. I want to feel you. I need you to give me more!”
Oh…he sounded hungry before, but now he was starving. There was an extra low growl in his voice and now it felt like the air was thick with the salt of him. His chest was working hard underneath you, heart palpitating while he cock bobbed in time, rutting against you and seeking every little sensation it could.
You had to take pity on him. You had to give him more now.
“Well you only had to ask for it,” you hummed, finally licking a stripe straight down the vein on the underside of his dick.
He moaned out like a bull, the sound practically ricocheted off the walls. You giggled quietly to yourself and worked your tongue over him again, closing your eyes contentedly as you tuned into his deep siren’s call.
You’d now moved down his body so that you could get better access to him, and now you took full advantage of his rock solid muscles, gently rutting yourself against his outstretched leg while you licked at his shaft and balls. You delighted in every time his voice caught in his throat and his moans broke out like waves into the static of the room.
You alternated between licking him and then breathing over the trails of saliva, taunting him when you reached his head, only giving him the gentlest of kitten licks there that would send him spasming and cursing. He wanted more and more, but you refused to give in right away. Teasing him was much too fun, and he was right, you were practically a professional at this.
Eventually though, you couldn’t refuse him any longer and when you finally took him into your mouth, he hummed and relaxed so fully that it felt like he’d been paralysed beneath you. You were a venomous creature taking him in your mouth and he was your prey now, you thought, he was well and truly yours.
At least that's what you had thought.
You’d bobbed your head down only a few times, had just swallowed right down to his balls when you felt it. A hand working its way over your head and tightly locking you into place against the scratchy hairs at his base. It took you no time at all to realise your little plan had backfired.
You’d been so focused on his cock that you hadn’t noticed he’d worked his hand free. You hadn’t heard the snicking of the knife as it had cut through the other binding. You hadn’t felt König’s upper half shifting until it was too late. Now the icy realisation was freezing your heart and sending your eyes watering.
He was fully in control of you now, yanking you up and holding you fast against him while he cut his feet free and threw the knife over to the far side of the room. His arms locked around you and he twisted like a crocodile in a death roll, throwing you underneath him and locking himself over you, ready to mount you like the bitch he claimed you to be.
“I wonder how hard I have to fuck you to make sure your legs can’t walk you onto that plane later, hm?” König sneered, breath hot as his voice acidly poured into your ears. “Lets see how long it takes for you to break.”
You yelped when he fastened his forearm around your throat and forced you both upward onto your knees, forcing you steady against him. You could still breathe fine, but nevertheless you fought him, trying to scrap back for control. It was useless. He hit your hands away without issue and still managed to get what he was looking for. Managing to lean over to the drawer and fetch the lube before he threw you uncaringly back into the mattress and repositioned his arm, constricting it around your middle instead.
He spanked you a couple times, the jolt centering straight onto your crotch and reversing your roles straight away. Now you were the one turned into a whimpering little mess. You turned to him and begged him to be gentle, but he only offered you a crazed smile before shoving the lube bottle between his teeth and squeezing a generous amount onto his hand.
“Gentle is for good little things that do as they’re told,” he growled, spitting the tube from his mouth. “Or those who use their safeword…so?”
He was mocking you now. The air hung dead between you, cold and unforgiving and sending you shivering under the weight of it.
“Just as I thought,” he hissed. “You love it when I take control.”
You sighed out in full defeat and looked down at the messy sheets, now resigned to your fate. You’d be little better than his fucktoy in only seconds. The realisation had you biting your lip, it sent your pulse roaring in both your chest and low in your body as you now anticipated, none too ashamedly, getting split in two.
You gasped when he pressed his lubed up hand against you and began to rub at your entrance, coating it thickly with the cool liquid and working you up a little before pressing a finger in. Pumping it in and out to the rhythm of your dogged moans, twisting and stroking and not letting up for anything.
He spanked you every so often, alternating between preparing you and punishing you for what you put him through. Even while you protested and told him that you couldn’t come into a job covered in bruises, he didn’t care. He didn’t even deign to give your cries an answer. He just rocked you onto him, adding fingers and turning your ass into a tingling hot mess all while he kept his chest pushed into his back and held you tightly against his sweaty torso.
“I- I that’s ah- I need”
“What? Are you finding it difficult to speak already? Imagine how difficult it’ll be once I’m inside you,” he taunted, nipping at the shell of your ear. “You want something, honey?”
You moaned out and bucked back against him, trying for a last ditch effort to get back on top, but he only laughed. There was no escape. The deep timbre of his chuckle worked through your back like nails, bringing home the fact that there wasn’t any way out of this beyond giving your safeword, and like hell did you want to do that. Not while every inch of your body was egging him on to continue.
“I need it,” you whimpered, groaning deep when he massaged a particularly sensitive spot inside of you. “I need your cock, pleaseeee.”
“You need it, yeah? How bad? Tell me how bad you need me to fuck you,” König growled.
You could feel him in the depths of your body, could feel how deep your desire for him was rooted now. Your toes were curling, sweat was dripping from your brow with the effort it took just to stay in the moment. Everything felt so impossibly hot. It took every effort not to pant like a dog, show him you might become a complete animal in the face of his teasing and his ministrations.
“Please, please, please, König!” you cried out. “Let me cum for you, I wanna make you feel good. I wanna clench around you. Let me feel you, I need it. I want you to fucking crush me, put your whole body over mine, please I need-”
He cut you off completely when he ploughed into you. Your words straggling away into nothingness. His hips clashed into your body and he jerked backwards just as he entered halfway, conscious of the fact that even with preparation he was still fucking huge. Though it didn’t stop him complying with your request, bending you harshly down into the mattress, almost squashing you in his effort to envelop you completely.
“Little brat, this is what you wanted all along. Well then…take it…take it all.”
Your arms and legs were folded underneath you now, just as useless as König’s had been when they were tied up. You had nowhere to go. Not that you wanted to go anywhere. König continued to work his way into your aching body, stretching you out and drawing the most salacious noises from your lips like a violin bow, stroking back and forth in perfect crescendoing song.
He wrapped a hand around your neck and kept his other arm around you, holding you tight and fucking into you like two animals in full heat. He knew just what you liked. Even while you tried to keep up the pretence of a struggle, scrabbling away at the wet sheets, you both knew that this was what you craved.
“There you go,” he said, ramming into you with his full length, voice straining even through his smugness. “Not so superior now that you’re all filled with cock, hm? You’re moaning like a little whore… my little whore. How’re you going to cope when I’m away, hm? You gonna touch yourself every night thinking about this? Maybe I should film you, make sure you have a reminder of your place.”
Your whole body tensed and you felt a growl of disapproval work itself from your throat. Even in your compromised position, even filled up to a point where you could feel your whole body coursing with need, you weren’t letting him get away with that.
You twisted your neck and bit his arm, not bothering to voice your protests. Your teeth sunk into flesh and released a pained grunt from him, but you were only rewarded with a particularly hard thrust for your efforts. It had you screaming underneath him, forcing him to reposition his hand from your neck and over your mouth.
“I’ll have to get a gag for you if you’re going to start biting,” he hissed, only releasing your mouth when you forced his hand away.
“Don’t threaten…me with a good time,” you laughed, smiling all the more when you heard him laughing too.
“Fucking hell,” he sighed.
He gave up holding you down and rose up like a bear, grasping your hips tightly with his roughened fingers before he really lost himself in you. He built up the fire within you until it was roaring, each slap of his body against yours sending you juddering forward and moaning out as his cock drew out brilliant sparks.
“Fuck, honey. You look so good like this… Look so good fighting to stay up. You’re my little plaything yeah? You’re mine to tease and fuck as I wish. Mine.”
Your vision was starting to white out, your head was growing fuzzy. The beat of your heart felt like it was building faster and faster and every little muscle in your body clenched at the impending orgasm that rocked through you. With only a few more thrusts you were spent, tearing at the sheets and lost in the pleasure, feeling positively drunk as your head swam with endorphins.
You screamed out and let your body fall completely to König, allowing him to gather your jelly muscles up and quickly reposition you in his lap. Your nails dug into his back, your head fell into the crook of his neck. You whimpered when he slipped back into you again, shaking as the aftershocks of your orgasm punched through you all the harder.
“Too much,” you whined, “too sensitive.”
“Come on now, honey. You’re not nearly there yet,” König murmured, kissing your temple. “Not till you say the safeword or till I say you’re done, alright?”
He repositioned himself and you dug your nails into the meat of his back, completely failing to discourage him from rocking you against his cock. You felt like you were going to cum again just from the jostling movements alone. The realisation had you moaning so pathetically.
“C’mon, honey, I know you can keep going for me, can’t you? I know you can,” he encouraged, already starting to slowly thrust in and out of you again. “I’m only just getting started…”

Thank you so much for The Silt Verses, what an emotional, cathartic, technically brilliant creation. I've been recommending it to everyone in my life left right and centre.
I'm curious about your process for creating such believable and relatable characters — did the characters come before the plot, or vice versa? Do you make conscious decisions on how to make them feel more 'real' in terms of dialogue, what non-plot-relevant things are shown etc.? I'd love to hear any advice or tips on making characters that resonate so strongly.
Thank you again for your amazing work!
Hey and thank you so much for the very kind words!
I don't know if I can answer your questions around this adequately (plus 'good' characterisation is extremely subjective, right?) but let me try:
Character, premise, and plot for me are very much inseparable in terms of the planning process. We establish a narrative landscape. We establish a character with a clear initial outlook and goal regarding that landscape. En route to the goal, we find opportunities to challenge, explore and shift the character's outlook - so that by the time they reach their goal, the outcome of the plot is no longer certain. That's the basic formula for every single TSV character arc, really.
That formula does, I think, need to be accompanied by a genuine restlessness on the part of the writer. We should feel impatient when we find we're repeating ourselves; we should be worried when our audience can too comfortably predict how the protagonists would react to X or Y; we should be itching to be surprised again by the fiction at every turn and aiming to find something new in every scene with a character. We're not making a sitcom here - the aim should not be a comfortable or reassuring stasis. Character is change.
There is a lot of scene-by-scene work I do around our characters to try and keep them from feeling artificial on my terms - but I think that's less a set of rules and more about being aware of your own historic patterns and broader structural cliches alike, and trying to navigate around them or at least freshen them up. Audiodrama can be a demanding medium with a limited palette for delivering information to the audience. As a result I think it's very common to fall into certain TV-inspired formulaic habits (for example, establishing basic character outlooks by having your protagonists bicker and debate in the moment about their immediate narrative goals, then delivering all the actually substantial character development and backstory in the form of melodramatic confessions and revelations from one protagonist to another protagonist during the downtime at the end of an episode, a la the 'CW's Supernatural technique'. We've done this stuff ourselves in the show, so I'm not looking down at it. But we've definitely also benefitted from the narration segments in TSV, which allow us to add extra dimensionality and depth to the characters outside of that banter-and-confession formula).

Truth be told I don't think Side Order needs a lot more, but personally aside from some small changes (like, I feel like the stock in vending machines is just too small, it's really annoying how all the slots are taken up by Prlz and sub/special weapons, for instance.) There are three things I wish the mode had:
I wish there were color chips that allowed some weapons to more closely mimic specific weapons within their weapon classes, stuff like having burst firing on the Shooter, or Explosher shots on the Slosher. Similarly I also think it's a real shame that you can't increase the amount of arrows fired at once by the Stringer. Stuff like that.
While filling up your palette is really fun, I wish you got more time to actually play around with your complete build, so I think an optional endgame challenge where you really got to put to put it to the test would be nice. I imagine something like a hack you unlock after beating the game with 8's palette that replaces the final boss with the last of the three main bosses, then gives you a set of extra difficult floors, one of each type, and then rounding it all out with an super-difficult version of the final boss. I think that'd be perfect.
I am hardly the first to say it, but it feels so obvious: Give us a custom palette. Maybe as a reward for beating those extra hard bonus floors? It's one of those things that seem so obvious and yet aren't anywhere to be found.

girls can have a little patricide, as a treat
these were drawn for my visdev class, of which the prompt was "take an existing IP and make either a prequel or sequel to it" and I interpreted that as "make your fanfiction real"
So of course I did Bad End Theater, and I based this entire project on a throwaway line that the Overlord says she killed her father to take his throne.
I also had to follow class guidelines on canvas size and all that so these aren't in the ratio of the original game, and I tried my best to replicate the art style but I know I didn't achieve perfect nami'fied proportions
Only being able to use 5 colors was really challenging but also rewarding. I came up with the red being the father's color palette, and I had been calling her the Heiress while working on this, before she yknow. Killed her dad
I wrote these scenes in the style of the game to get the brain juices flowing, and MAYBE if I'm motivated enough I'll draw all the frames and actually produce the full story idea I have... no promises tho
#bad end theater#bad end theater fanart#bad end theater overlord#fanart#fanfiction#digital art#cw blood#i feel like im forgetting tags but this is all i can think of rn#is the read more not working? the post says its there but on viewing the post its nonexistent to me

Process breakdown #1
Here is a breakdown of the butterfly animation. This was originally posted as a twitter thread, but a real blog post seems to be a much better format for it.
Step 1: Static Drawing
I've long wanted to experiment with Bokeh effect in pixel art as a way to avoid drawing background. It ended up being a lot more challenging than just a normal background 😂. Still an interesting experiment nonetheless and I might use it for some other stuff in the future.
Step 2: Rough Animation
I traced the static drawing with a contrasting colour, then roughly sketched the other frames. Seeing it in motion made it clear to me that the form was very obviously incorrect, but I thought I'd adjust as I go.
Step 3: Refined Animation
Before I got to this point, I naively tried to put in the colour. I quickly realized making the "veins" look consistent would be very hard without guides. So I looked up pictures of actual Morpho butterflies to study the wings in detail. Also made the shapes (mostly) correct and doubled the frame count once I was happy with the shapes.
Step 4: Colours
This was the most fun part. I conceptualized the wings as two blue tinted, matte, textured mirrors rotating in 3D space. When two mirrors come together, they start reflecting each other. The closer they get, the less the lighting from the surrounding world contribute to the colours you see. Eventually, nearly no light from the outside world make into the gap and all you see is dark blue/black.
It started looking almost like mirrors as I figured out the rough movements of the reflections; then a shimmering mess of colours as I threw in more details from the static drawing. The key trick to making the complex colours look consistent was to pay attention to every "partition" of the wings to make sure the dark colours creep in and out smoothly.
I also gradually filled in the eye spots and details on the backside of the wings, not sure if many people noticed them but I was pretty happy with how they looked.
Step 5: Shadow
A big part of realism comes from how a moving object affects the lighting around it. In this case: the shadow on the flower. This is a rough version of the shadows as I worked on it. Wasn't too concerned about making it look 100% correct, since the wings probably catch all the attention anyway.
Step 6: Final Touches
I spaced out the movements so it didn't feel quite so frantic. Instead of using the last frame as the resting frame, I used the second last, and only briefly showed the last frame at the begging and end of the motion to add a bit of realism (although in reality, butterfly wings probably don't have enough mass for that to happen, but hey, 🤷♀️).
Also spent some time to reduce the palette down by merging similar looking colours. Also reused the darker, subtler yellow in the background to create the illusion of more flowers out of focus.

Why do you call your story Children Of sinners?
Also, I like to know the rest of title meaning like sin of the Virtues and destiny of sun descendant because I'm pretty sure Dream is supposed to be the main character but at this point I'll see Hope point of view
Oh that's easy-
Destiny of Sun Descendant
So the reason is simple- yeah I agree with Dream not being the main character anymore because this story focus on people around him.
As Sora is the real sun descendant and Dream is the fake one. Their destiny changed. Dream took the someone's else place and take the wrong destiny. Sora destiny is taken so he was casted away in somewhere else (rip)
Sins of the Virtues
This story is about star sanses, murder time trio, neutral side and some spirits you already know. They called themselves virtues yet they committed unthinkable sins.
For example, kindness. Having kindness as your virtue yet you use it to commit a sin? Emotional manipulation and emotional abuse. That's a sin.
Children of sinners
Lux, Palette, Drop, Crescent, Angst, Merciless and Goth. They're children of the sinners. Their parents committed sins, let them deal with the consequences.
For example Hope is destined to go to hell and Passive doesn't allow that thus he challenge the gods. The gods then make a game, using the children instead of the sinners themselves.
Lux was never meant to be a guardian or the queen, she was a mistake to this world because she wasn't supposed to have magic that belonged to Palette. Her parents committed sins and she had to deal with it
Palette in the other hand was supposed to have magic, he was supposed to be a good child yet due neglects and high expectations. Here is it.

[Oh shit I did something. I wrote Val and Sam as podcasters. Warning: this is fucking stupid. I literally had to just stop writing bc it made less and less sense as I went on. But I love writing dialogue and it’s silly and this is tumblr. here have a little snack my dudes]
Graveyard Girls Episode 12: Roasting Ember’s Beauty Guru Era at 1 AM
“Hello and welcome to Local Ghost Smash or Pass—”
“I will fucking kill you.”
Valerie had to admit that Sam Manson’s ability to keep a completely straight face while saying the most unhinged nonsense was probably one of the reasons their video podcast was so popular. Her own ability to refrain from actually killing her was the reason it still existed at all. How they’d made it to episode twelve, however, still remained at least partially an enigma.
Though it was overall Danny’s kindness that slowly made his trio of friends into a tenuous quartet, Valerie had slowly become accepted by all of them, once she finally came to terms with Danny’s secret. Sam was the last to come around, though by the time they were both seventeen their tension was less due to fighting over a boy and more due to the fact that they could agree on almost nothing.
Most of Graveyard Girls was the two girls arguing, originally spawned by a viral TikTok Tucker posted, in which Valerie—at Danny’s bizarre request—tried to explain The Bachelor franchise to them and Sam being convinced she was making some of it up. People had been interested, and with Amity Park being a niche-but-also-hot topic, a weekly podcast was born.
“Okay but,” Sam leaned back in a vintage-looking office chair, “if I returned as a ghost, would you sma—” Sam cut herself off with a grunt as she dodged a throw pillow.
The show was mostly the two competing to see who could get the other to essentially rage quit, and while Sam’s personality was surprisingly just as strange as those of her best friends, Valerie was competitive enough to be a worthy opponent.
“You might just be, like, the worst person,” Valerie said, expertly catching the throw pillow as it was hurled back at her. “We’re not even three minutes in and I’m so uncomfortable with the energy you’ve created.”
“So our very last episode is three minutes long and titled Valerie Quits, then?”
“You’d like that, wouldn’t you Manson?” For a tense moment they stared each other down. “Say it one more time, see what happens.”
“So what is today’s topic, then?”
It was a challenge, to see if Valerie had forgotten it was her turn to start. She had.
They had the Box Ghost to thank for it, too.
“Okay, so—full disclosure,” she began, and she looked at her phone, “it is…1:16 in the morning. And both of us have been awake for like…”
“More hours than usually recommended,” Sam continued, “for reasons. We wanted to get this episode out on time so we are crunching.”
“And suffering.”
“And suffering quite a bit,” Sam concluded, nodding. “So my topic is that Ember McClain is trying to release eyeshadow palettes.”
“You cannot just drop that on me.”
“It was dropped on me,” Sam told her, “I’ve had to live with this. You don’t read the DMs for our official account so you didn’t see it and this poor lady, she has this indie cosmetics company and she slides into our DMs asking ‘is this person for real? I think she’s a ghost? She wants to collab.’”
“Collab…”
“And she sent me like…a mock up. I’m putting it in the google drive so get ready.”
Valerie picked her phone, opening their shared drive and—sure enough—seeing a digital version of a very Ember-esque palette, showcasing both dark and neon shades.
“She’s unhinged. But like…some of the shimmers on here aren’t terrible.”
“That’s the thing—I don’t like the bright blues and greens but there’s potential here. I could make a look out of it.”
“I’ve got conditions—if she wants to start the beauty guru era of her ‘career’ I need a full press release saying it’s not a complex murder plot,” Valerie said.
“I swear under penalty of perjury that I’m not imprisoning your parents in hamster wheels to power my sound system,” Sam affected an impression that would positively enrage the ghostly pop star as she spun around in her chair.
“My mad power-grab via subliminal mind control is so over, okay? That was the old me. Get to fucking swatching.” Valerie continued, snickering. “We kid, but this is actually peak influencer already.”
“We’re writing her YouTube apology for her,” Sam said, and she trained her eyes on the camera before continuing, “you cannot use this. I know you’re watching, I said your name once, and your Obsession is name-searching the universe. You have to do your own YouTube apology.”
“We should edit her name out before we upload.”
“We should.”
“…We’re not going to.”
“No, and a certain somebody’s gonna be on my ass about it. We should perhaps move on…”

I did it again!!! Meet my second PMMM OC: Shinoha Murofushi!
More info below the cut *.✧
Basic Info:
Name: Shinoha Murofushi
Age: 16
Height: 5'6
Wish: "'My ultimate dream could come true'... If that's really the case then, I want to get revenge on those bastards!"
Weapon: Dual Swords
Power: The ability to release attacks used against her back at an enemy*
Soul Gem: Bellflower (*also somewhat looks like a skull) located below the chest, with scales on the bottom of the soul gem
Witch: Nemesis
*She can only absorb attacks that have hit her, and will take damage from anything that hits her. She can store damage for as long as she wants, but when she releases it, every attack she's stores gets released at once. However the attack affected her is how it will affect the target she releases on: Ex. Someone punches her causing a bloody nose, Shinoha releases her damage, and the puncher gains a bloody nose and the pain that caused the bloody nose. Ex2. Someone breaks her arm with a baseball bat, Shinoha releases her damage, and the batter gains a broken arm and the pain of a baseball bat to the arm.
Personality:
She's incredibly standoffish and tries her best to be alone at all times. She rarely leaves her room, and hates going to school. She's quick to judge and mistrust others, and it's incredibly hard for her to lower her guard. She's learned to cut her own hair (due to avoiding leaving the house) and while she has exceptional talent doing so, she has no interest in being a hairdresser. She rarely sleeps, and is always tired. She maintains a perfect poker face, but struggles with violent thoughts and self-loathing: becoming a magical girl has given her an outlet for her struggles, although she gets very brutal in fights. Her favorite food is seafood, and she can't stand the taste of sweet things. Despite her dark thoughts, she's very meek, and seldom voices her opinions and feelings. If she's got a problem with someone, they likely don't know until it's too late. Her downbeat nature means she doesn't have many hobbies; she spends most of her time on her phone, and is a closet idol fanatic.
Design Breakdown:
This design was a challenge and a pain. I struggled A LOT to incorporate her "revenge" wish and find a good theming for it, but all I could really work with was "greek goddess Nemesis" (justice/law/punishment theme). I managed to fit in some wing-like shapes (skirt, swords) but I don't know if it's obvious enough(?) Her hair-circle is meant to look like a halo (angel of punishment theme) but I'm not sure if it just looks like a random circle or an actual halo. I included bellflower motifs because... I have no real reason; nice concept, but I can't draw bellflowers well. Her colour palette was the most difficult part (theming second) because no colours fit her??? I don't know how to describe it, but no colours worked right with her personality (not even black or white). I settled on green with grey hair, but it'll probably change if I ever draw her again. I fear her design is a little to "fantasy" not enough "magical girl" (but that might just be my "ruffles/pink" brainrot). I tried really hard to give her a should cloak, then a caplet, and finally I gave up and just went with the sleeves.
Overall: she was a struggle, and I don't think I got across my theming and motifs well. I might try to redesign her in the future, but for now I'm content with this: I think it's good for my current skill level and her current concept.
Trivia:
She didn't believe in magical girls at all, but after much pestering convincing from Komoe, she unseriously made a wish before becoming a magical girl
Her damage absorbing ability causes her to intentionally endanger herself in fights against witches (possible concept)
Originally her plan was to kill her bullies, but she instead opted to use her power to curse them
She would've liked to be the brooding loner type of magical girl, but Komoe had other plans
She has a mini fridge in her room and it's her favorite thing in the world
It's always dark in her room, so she can see well in the dark (potential plot point later[?])
She's a big fan of spy, action, and mystery movies; and has some form of online review blog
She has a mannequin in her room she vents her frustrations and feelings to (she strongly dislikes showing emotions in public and/or around others)
As much as she's tried to fight it, Komoe often comes to her house with groceries, grief seeds, gifts, and other things to give to Shinoha
Although she was initially very unhappy about becoming a magical girl (she kinda became a magical girl on accident), she's slowly learning to embrace her magical girl persona (and becoming more deranged in the process!)
She named her magical girl swords after her two favorite idols, and has begun a personal sword collection (a goal Komoe helped her set was to eventually forge a sword herself)
She once drank a small bottle of vanilla extract without batting an eye (it was dark, she was tired and didn't feel like reading)
She punts around Inkyuu like a ball

The Übersaw build breakdown, Part 1: (enjoy!)
Note: I'm more than happy to answer any and all questions about this build. Want me to breakdown a specific step or detail, please ask!
From top reference, to bottom complete, this build was a challenge from start to finish and required me to learn a ton of new skills, and reach out to a variety of people for help/advice/brainstorming! But when I decided I was finally going to make my dream cosplay of Medic, I knew this is the saw I wanted to make along with it.
Every piece was made from scratch, and includes sintra, pla 3d printing, resin printing, acrylic tubes, a straw, bondo, E6000, hex bolts, led ring light, arduino trinket, metal switch, aaa battery pack, misc. wiring, spray paint, acrylic paint, and a whole lot of sanding sanding sanding!
I always wanted to stay as true to the original design as possible, but knew adjustments would have to be made, moving a model from a game to real life. Some details I wanted to keep a true as possible, such as the base shape and size. Some aspects were modified deliberately to fit better with the overall aesthetic of the specific version of Medic I was creating; such as smoothing out the edges of the handle, rather than keeping them sharp like in the game. (Something that would make it more realistic overall, a goal I kept in mind through every piece of the costume.)
One such change was adding liquid to the Übersaw core and an led light that pulses red. Looking at the base design, and the color palette the original creators used, they intrinsically translated in my mind to "liquid" and "light" rather than just a flat color. Thinking about Medic and his designs, I figured an ominous, pulsing red would be perfect for when the Übersaw was fully charged. (Plus it would look really cool, so... that definitely influenced my decisions!)
I mixed up a concoction of distilled water, red and silver mica powder, and filled an acrylic tube with the mixture. There's actually two tubes, the smaller inside one helps reduce water weight on this already hefty prop.
Of course, these changes also meant I needed to learning how to code an arduino trinket (which ended up being a lot of fun!), and create a special holder at the base of the Übersaw to hold the ring light, trinket, switch, battery pack and wiring. Not to mention it had to be accessible so I could change the batteries out when needed. That's when it was time to ask for help from some talented friends!
Here's what the resulting holder ended up looking like! (Not pictured is the ring the light sits on) It was 3d modeled and printed in PLA by my friend with some imput by me, but he knows so much more about this stuff I was happy to let him take the lead! The design includes hex bolts to secure the light holder to the Übersaw like a clamp, but also allows it to be opened in half for easy access to the batteries/any electronics that are having issues.
The base of the whole saw is sintra (pvc board), in many layers. The layers were then blended with Bondo and SO MUCH SANDING. After the piece looked like a cohesive whole, rather than 8 layers of plastic board, it was base coated with spraypaint and detail painted with acrylics. (I say this as though it was a simple task, but the spraypaint fought me every step of the way, had to be constantly re-sanded, and some layers refused to dry at all and had to be varnished to remove the tackiness. It was a trial to be sure!)
But after all was said and done, it was finally time for detail painting: My favorite part of any project! (Continued in part 2)

TOP 5 GPOSES FROM FFXIVTOBER 2024
I had basically zero knowledge of how to use gpose in ffxiv when i started this challenge, so I used a ffxivtober prompt list to force myself to learn. I completed all 31 days and think I improved a LOT!
I super want to do more of these because it was a lot of fun. If you see any similar prompt lists in the wild send them my way ^^
Anyway, here are my Top 5 of the 31 days!
HONORABLE MENTION -- Day 6 - "Crossover"
This is the earliest day I really felt "proud" of the shot, so while it isn't top 5 I want to include it. I'm actually quite familiar with Nier, and since it's an official crossover I had a lot of material to work with. Ultimately I picked Puppet's Bunker since it has a lot of cinematic areas. I got to feel like a real smartass using a spear with a red dragon on it. And the ray of sunlight across the shot adds something extra, imo.
#5 -- Day 27 - "Murky"
I really, really love how the colors turned out here. Amaurot seemed like an ideal setting for this prompt, but I had forgotten about the eerie rays of light shining down on it in the overworld. I love how the helices in the architecture are obscured enough by fog/light so they almost look like tentacles of a sea creature... I liked both of these color filters a lot as well.
#4 -- Day 18 - "Masquerade"
This one was so fun coming up with a dynamic pose. I decided to do some scouting in The Grand Cosmos, as it's the most "masquerade ball" place in the game. I saw the dragon statue that turns into an enemy when you run by it and had the brainwave to frame it in the picture like they were Kezona's wings. Combined with the skull mask and fire horns I think the effect looks great. WOULD take his hand, 10/10.
#3 -- Day 22 - "Color Palette (Swap)"
I went for a light/sin-eater version of a Reaper for this prompt, since they're usually dark/voidsent aligned. Thanks again to @flame-of-tar-valon for inspiring the idea. I LOVE the outfit I came up with here; even went the extra mile and crafted golden jewelry purely for the glam. Since sin-eaters are basically zombies in canon, I did want to maintain some feral aspects with the appearance, so I also incorporated talons and claws to contrast the angelic imagery a bit.
I'm keeping the glam in rotation, & I might actually revisit this shot with a better background, like the Innocence/Mt. Gulg areas or even the Endwalker Alliance Raids.
#2 -- Day 29 - "Horror/Gore"
This one turned out SO cool looking, and it was the one I struggled with the most conceptually! Thanks again to @ofdarklands and @ferrocyan, whose combined help resulted in this shot. Overall I love how the colors pop out, and ESPECIALY the effect of a dark halo in the background framed by the Diabolos wings. Thrilled to have such a neat shot in the final post of the challenge!
#1 -- Day 11 - "Goth"
This is one that just turned out perfect to me. I was messing with the manual lighting adjustment, which created the second silhouette shot and totally floored me. I love how something as simple as the lighting slider can make such a great visual contrast. Add on the cool factor of the scythe and raven feathers... ough. I liked these shots so much I made them my lock screen and desktop backgrounds.

Hey! I'm a non native English speaker and i find it very hard to use wide variety of vocabulary in my writing. Any tips??
Just as a painter needs a rich palette of colours to make their art, writers need a diverse vocabulary to craft deep and engaging story worlds.
Your vocabulary as a writer is much like a paint box, with each word adding depth, contrast, and colour to your creation. So what techniques can you use to improve your vocabulary and give yourself more linguistic colours to choose from?
Read a lot
Reading is the best way to improve your vocabulary. It’s immersive, enjoyable, and will introduce you to more varied words. Make it a habit to read often, and try to read widely. Don’t limit yourself to one genre, age range, or style. Whether fiction, non-fiction, articles, or instruction manuals, reading as widely as you can opens your mind to words and styles you might never encounter naturally in your day-to-day life.
Write a lot
Write as often as you can. The more you write, the more often you’ll find yourself reaching for varying words and phrases to accurately convey your thoughts. Every written piece is an opportunity to experiment with new words. As with anything, practice is crucial—regular writing will naturally enhance your vocabulary and make your word usage more instinctive and fluid.
Use a thesaurus
A thesaurus introduces you to a variety of synonyms for the words you’re using and can help you express your thoughts with a bit more flair. However, using a thesaurus does come with a caveat: avoid using complex words just for the sake of appearing more sophisticated. Always choose words that best fit the context and effectively convey what you’re trying to say.
Join a writing group
Beyond being a place to talk about words, writing groups let you test your understanding of words in real time. Writing groups provide valuable insight into whether your word choices effectively convey your intended meaning. Seeing how other writers use their own vocabularies to share their own meanings is a great way to see how word choice can make your writing richer and more nuanced
Play word games
Playing word games is not only fun but is also an effective way to expand your vocabulary. For instance, games like Scrabble challenge you to form varying words from a set of letters, crossword puzzles can improve your understanding and recall of words, and games like Boggle can stimulate quick thinking around word formation.
Keep a word journal
Every time you encounter a new and intriguing word, whether through reading, conversation, or even during a TV show, jot it down in your word journal. Follow it up by researching its meaning, synonyms, and usage in sentences. Revisit these entries frequently, and try to incorporate these words into your writing somehow, even if it’s only during practice sessions. Over time, you’ll notice these new words naturally creeping into your vocabulary.
Sometimes simple is best
While having a broad vocabulary is an asset for any writer, it’s also important to remember that effective communication is what it’s all about, and sometimes, simpler words serve this purpose best. Not every situation calls for intricate or sophisticated language; in fact, often, using simpler, more direct language can make your message clearer and more accessible to a wider audience. More important than a wide vocabulary is an understanding of your readers and the message you want to convey in your text.

Farnaz Khaki-Sadigh: The Costumes of Avatar: The Last Airbender Season One
Farnaz Khaki-Sadigh revealed the complexities of creating the costumes of Avatar: The Last Airbender Season One, visually translating the four nations and their iconic characters from animation into live-action.
Since 2005, Avatar: The Last Airbender has inspired us with compelling storytelling and its deep mid-19th century historical culture influences–including but not limited to Asia, Mesoamerica, Inuit, Eskimo, and indigenous cultures. The universally acclaimed animated series spanned for three seasons (or three books) and expanded into a sequel series and several different mediums, but after a live-action misstep in 2010, the epic franchise finally found its way to Netflix with a brand-new retelling of the world of Avatar. The live-action series of the same name premiered on February 22, 2024 and immediately captivated the audience through its outstanding cinematography, with a brilliant cast transformed into the beloved characters through the vibrant creations of the costume department. Farnaz Khaki-Sadigh, the costume designer responsible for translating the series from animation to live-action revealed the inspirations and manufacturing challenges and rewards behind the garments of Avatar: The Last Airbender: “A lot of it was research, looking into the cultural background of the nations and the characters that were originally inspired by the animation, learning and understanding their history and tradition. I studied garment history and how clothing was traditionally worn in those cultures, what influenced their color palettes and fabrics, then tried to meld them together in a way that paid homage to the animation but at the same time respectfully and authentically represented the real life cultures. That was really the first step into it.”
Visually creating a fantasy world is a momentous task, where in comparison to contemporary or even historical filmmaking each background character has to be fully developed to build the rich population within storytelling. Khaki-Sadigh and her team crafted over 400 costumes that visually defined the Air Nomads, Water Tribes, Fire Nation, and Earth Kingdom. She said, “For the Air Nomads, I decided to pick the color palettes you see in Fall season … the rusts, oranges, yellows, maroons, deeper browns, it’s just so warm and comforting. For the Water Tribes, I looked at icebergs. There are so many hues of blues and teals; it’s not just white. I also explored how the ocean reflects the light differently, creating various shades of blue. With the Fire Nation I was really inspired by volcanoes, looking at all the different shades you see when a volcano erupts, from the fiery lava to the ashes–the reds and oranges within the lava and the blacks and grays from the ash and from when the lava hardens. Then for Earth Kingdom, the inspiration came from forests and springs. So that’s sort of how I broke down the different color palettes and expanded on what was in the animation.”
Avatar: The Last Airbender showcases the art of “bending” elements, which requires a full range of motion to visually achieve the right level of grace and power on screen. Farnaz Khaki-Sadigh explained the importance of fitting room action tests to assure practicality while wearing these intricate costumes on set: “It’s really important to make sure that it becomes almost like a second skin to the actors, otherwise they would feel out of place, taking them out of character. For example, we changed Aang’s cape; we had it fuller at the beginning but we found that it kept hitting him and didn’t flow as nicely, so we had to taper it down, re-alter the shape of it. It took a lot of math trying to figure out the patterning to get it to a place where it’s still read like a full cape but at the same time it moved with him as opposed to hindering his movements.” Then she added, “We had the Fire Nation armor shoulders wider to match the animation, but after we did some tests we found out that they limited how far they were able to move at the shoulder point. So we made them narrower, which just made the design a little bit different from the animation, but the actors were able to move freer for their bending.”
The costume design challenges for the show continued outside the fitting room. Farnaz Khaki-Sadigh explained that in order to achieve color consistency between outdoor and Volume sets were daunting–the latter’s LED lights forcing fabric changes and prolonged dying processes for many costumes: “We dyed the Fire Nation armor leathers five or six times because in daylight they had a beautiful deep shade of burgundy but in front of the Volume the color turned hot pink! In order to find the right hues to actually read red, we had to go super dark in real life … almost like a blistery color.” She added, “With Aang’s cape, we loved the color, but when we tested it [in the Volume] it was also pink … we tried about ten different fabrics before we narrowed it down to three and chose the one without a pattern with a brownish rust color that read the right hue on camera.”
Being the main protagonist of the series, Aang’s costume had to be just right. The simplicity of the Air Nomads garments meant the costume designer had to focus on texture and layering to prevent a flat look on camera, also utilizing natural fibers to represent the Air Nomad’s peaceful lifestyle. Besides the cape practicalities and color complexities, Farnaz Khaki-Sadigh recalled a peculiar challenge that followed the team throughout the filming of Season One: “Gordon [Cormier] was a growing boy, so every few weeks we had to build him a new pair of pants because he would outgrow them. I think he’s got probably around twenty pairs of pants, which probably will not fit him anymore [laughs].”
There is a beautiful visual perspective in Avatar: The Last Airbender that separates foreground and background characters, the former showcasing more vibrant shades of color and details that define their journeys away from home and unique personalities. For Katara, Khaki-Sadigh incorporated flowy water wave patterns in her parka and the under tunic inspired by Inuit art, whereas for Sokka her team implemented a more geometric design for his costume–symbolizing the character’s engineering background. His armor in particular included some Viking elements, which the costume designer revealed came from her discussions with some of the indigenous advisors on the show, delving into their trading culture and how they would build clothing and tools based on what they had access to–from leathers to bones. She said, “We built all those little rings and hand sewn them into the armor’s leather, creating a sort of chainmail look. We then casted the shoulders to look like metal, taking that element from the fact that there were Fire Nation ships that have basically been abandoned, so he would have been able to use the metal from them to create a protective layer for himself because he’s the warrior of the tribe.”
The show had yet another gorgeous display of fantasy period costume design with Suki and the Kyoshi Warriors. From the golden headpieces to the intricacies of the armors, Farnaz Khaki-Sadigh delved into the process for making those samurai-inspired costumes: “In my research, I came across a group of female samurai warriors called Onna-Bugeisha, which was my inspiration for the Kyoshi warriors. I found this beautiful leather that had this basket weave print on it which became our base for the armor, very traditional for the style of Japanese samurai armors. The headpieces were 3D printed and they all had their own unique geometric fan pattern on them, then we painted them and wrapped the leather straps around with five different layers of hand braided braids, creating these tassels at the end of it.” She then revealed a fascinating fact about Suki’s costume: “The fan that crosses in front of her headdress is actually a vintage fan that we took apart and used to create the front … It had such a beautiful pattern and texture. Also, if you look closely at the corset portion on the bottom panels of the armor, you can spot small little geometrical fans that are laser etched onto the leather to create a little bit more texture and detail onto it.”
Among the Fire Nation, two characters really drove the villainy side of the tale in Season One–on one end Zhao, an ambitious general with a personal agenda, and Prince Zuko on the other, the heir to the throne who is navigating an uncertain path between his devotion to his people and the moral complexities of war. Farnaz Khaki-Sadigh’s team created several looks for the two villains, incorporating symbolic elements that defined their personas: “There’s something just so mysterious about Zhao. He sort of beats to the tone of his own drum so we incorporated his own personal crest, different from the rest of the Fire Nation. If you look at the details of his armor, on his gauntlets and on the skirt panels, even on his shoulder crest when he ends up wearing the [Admiral] cape, there is a different pattern that still has a flame weave to it, but it’s very unique. When he became Admiral, we made a more regal and powerful version of the costume inspired by the traditional Roman conquerors.” Then she delved into Zuko’s designs: “He goes through a lot of changes, personality and emotionally. He’s the man of many changes … he had more changes than any of our cast had, but I think the biggest thing for us was his armor. I wanted to make sure that it was regal prince-like, it stood out in comparison to the other Fire Nation armors, but at the same time, it was still part of the brigade. He’s holding onto so much tradition. He has this overwhelming struggle of what he personally believes and what is expected of him. His armor is not just like a physical thing, it’s also a metaphorical armor; he hides behind this armor to portray something that is expected of him, but yet he’s not sure if that’s who he is yet. We added a bit more layers to him with his armor, doubled the shoulders and three or four panels on his armor to add a little bit more rigidity to him.”
With Avatar: The Last Airbender renewed for two more seasons, the costume designer confessed she looks forward to designing Ba Sing Se and Ember Island and overall further developing the characters through more cultural history exploration. This interview barely scratches the surface of the team’s immense work, so if you crave more behind-the-scenes, make sure to follow Farnaz Khaki-Sadigh on Instagram.

hey, i just wanna say i adore your colours and i really want to know if you have any specific proccess in how you do them? :0 they're always so good i keep coming back to stare
HII!!! SORRY I FORGOT TO ACTUALLY POST THIS WHEN YOU FIRST ASKED, I ONLY REMEMBERED NOW ARGH💥💥💥💥
Thank you so much💥‼️🫶
My process is honestly pretty messy with colors, I sort of switch them around until im happy with it. Doing color theory and real life color studies really helps being able to choose colors that look more "real" ig, but for my drawings like these, I usually go off of complimentery colors‼️💥
(Purple + green is probably my favorite color combo next to red/pink and teal rahh💥💥)
it doesnt always look good, so I change it up if I want to though 💥💥
For my bigger drawings like these, I sometimes do also have some complimentery colors as a basis, but I often don't end up comitting to them lmao. For the most part, it's just guessing until it's right
With these, it's a lot of adding thing and changing hue until it looks nice.
I think my best tip I can give, is don't be afraid to mix in colors that "shouldn't" be there, and also like i said before, studying colors from real life and photographs is extremely helpful‼️‼️ and challenging yourself to use a limiting palette also really helps you understand colors, at least it did for me.
Like back when i was doing these, I was usually going off of a palette I found somewhere, cause it helped me understand what looks nice together‼️‼️‼️
Idk if any of that is helpful to everyone, but that's just how I do it ghfhfhg
#No idea if i explained anything here!!!!#Hopefully it's not just pure rambling#Ghghgh tried my best#🫶🫶#:D yippie
