i absolutely ADORE this drawing for day six of milgramtober! holt shit it's insane i love it
i know it's like, "well, mug, where's the smoke??" okay well uhh backdraft is the reignition of flames when air combines with unburned fuel, which would cause smoke so yeah that's my justification guys (i swear the writing goes along with "Smoke" I swear)
going insane ANYWAYS HERE'S TODAY'S POST!!
Fuuta watches the clock he requested tick every second.
On some days, he regrets it. He regrets each ticking moment because on those days, when he's in absolute agony from Kotoko's attacks or the voices, each tick is another to his death.
So, he hands it off to different people. Let them find out what time it is until they die. He doesn't want to know.
Today, he doesn't mind the quiet ticking sound. It's peaceful, oddly. He doesn't really expect that. It helps him fall asleep sometimes, just listening to that noise.
Eventually, the constant ticking noise gets a little boring, so Fuuta pushes himself off his bed and looks around.
Nothing to do in his cell today and Yuno is pretty much asleep, since he can't hear her. Muu is probably off doing some random shit with Haruka, so he doesn't have to check on him. They're old enough to handle shit by themselves.
With that, Fuuta opens his cell door and leaves the quietly ticking clock and his boring room.
"What to do..." Fuuta grumbles as he walks through the panopticon, passing Yuno and Haruka's cells.
When he was bored before the verdicts, he used to walk past the other 7 cells, but he doesn't do that anymore.
Not since...
Fuuta shivers.
"Fuck, it's freezing." He knows it's not.
He smells the pungent smell of smoke and knows instantly where to go.
He exits the Panopticon and continues walking through the hallway until he reaches the common room doors.
Pulling them open, Fuuta glances around the room before spotting the two he would have expected to see smoking: Mikoto and Kazui.
"Oh, hello, Fuuta." Kazui gives a polite wave.
Mikoto glances over and waves as well before taking a puff of his e-cigarette.
"It's pretty late to be smoking, isn't it?" Fuuta walks over with an unexpected lack of anger in his voice. Huh.
"Eh... Well, might as well. Mikoto and I have not spoken since..." Kazui trails off.
"It's nice to catch up." Mikoto shrugs.
Fuuta almost laughs at how funny that idea is. They've been in the same prison for months, years even. They wouldn't need to catch up on anything.
But, hey, maybe Kazui or Mikoto remembered some stories they'd forgotten to share before.
"Yeah, I getcha." Fuuta takes a seat near them, placing his head on the table and looking up at them (with his one good eye).
"Oi, aren't you going yell at us?" Mikoto teases.
Fuuta laughs. "Nah, you both already know whatever shit I'll tell you anyway. I'm too tired to care. Plus, even if I did, you'd ignore me anyways. So." He shrugs.
He also just... wasn't in the mood for fighting today.
It's funny. He sort of lost the aggressiveness over time because of everything that happened. Well, he still has it, he'll fucking fight someone if he needs to.
It's just... not the same right now.
"Ah, well, Fuuta. I'll tell you that I understand your complaints, but I'll still smoke." Kazui chuckles and Fuuta gives a small smile back.
Kazui puts the cigarette to his mouth, inhaling, and exhaling as he moves the cigarette away from his mouth.
"Oi, Kazui, where's the other old man, Shidou?" Fuuta asks. He does want to apologize for what happened yesterday when Shidou checked his bandages.
...He honestly didn't mean to get all upset. Shidou just put too much pressure on an area and memories from Kotoko's attacks just hit him.
"Ahh..." Kazui scratches his neck. "I came after Shidou left. I was in my cell when I needed to smoke and I just so happened to see Mikoto in here. I guessed the two of them were smoking together before I got here."
"Oh, I think he went to go check on Mahiru." Mikoto shrugs. "Or he might've gone to go check on Amane. One of the two."
"Eh, I guess that's fair." Fuuta sighs.
Guess he'll have to apologize to him later.
Fuuta shuts his eyes for a moment, half listening to the conversation Mikoto and Kazui are having and half in his thoughts.
He honestly can't tell if the voices have been quieter today. Well, he's not hearing them more, which is a plus, he guesses.
Maybe the clock did help.
(Yuno mentioned to him once before that sometimes, if there's enough noise to focus on, they're quieter. They're harsher on the days when it's silent.
It's funny how he never actually took her advice to have some noise somewhere. He knows whatever voices she hears probably isn't that bad, but it was still good advice.
So, he requested a clock. It helped. Occasionally. It's not a loud enough noise to keep them quiet for long, but it helps.)
"...Fuuta!" Mikoto slams the table.
"Gah–" Fuuta jumps. "What? What??"
"You looked like you were dozing off." Kazui points out.
"Eh?? I wasn't; I had my eyes closed." Fuuta huffs before internally berating himself. He had his eye closed. It's true he technically has his eyelid shut over his eye, but it's... not working, so. "I was thinking."
"Ah, alright." Mikoto nods before taking a puff of his e-cigarette.
The three of them relax in a calming silence, Mikoto and Kazui quietly chatting and smoking while Fuuta thinks.
"Fuuta, I have to ask." Kazui's voice takes Fuuta out of his thoughts.
"Eh? What is it?" Fuuta looks up at Kazui.
"I was wondering... Why did you even come here? You don't smoke, so you don't have any reason to be here, but you are."
Fuuta exhales. Why was he here? He came because he smelt smoke and that was it.
...ah, nevermind, he knows.
"My father used to smoke a lot." Fuuta answers. "It's been a while, but I'm assuming he still does. Weak, pathetic fogey." He shakes his head. "Anyways... it reminds me of home, mostly. I wasn't sure what to do and I came here. Maybe I'm just used to going home to the stench of smoke in the air or something stupid like that, who fucking knows?"
Mikoto and Kazui both nod.
"Ah, I see." Kazui rubs his chin. "If you ever need a smell of home, you're welcome to sit down and relax with us."
"Yeah, somehow, we really don't mind. It's not like we're saying anything particularly private, so..." Mikoto shrugs.
"Eh, well, if none of you mind me being here occasionally just to remind me of home..."
"I'm sure Shidou will be fine with it, too." Mikoto flashes Fuuta a small smile. Kazui nods in agreement.
"Ahhh, alright, alright." Fuuta sits upright.
"I wouldn't mind relaxing while you guys smoke."

i havent seen anyone else really post about him even if we all seem to think he's badass as hell (pun intended), so it's my duty to: teven could easily become one of the most interesting & complex c3 characters soon, and i am deeply excited.
conceptually, he's already a treat; one of asmodeus's biggest champions whose vices lead him to bind a pact with fearne, utterly unaware of what hes getting into. he thinks this will secure him & asmodeus power with fae royalty, only for fearne to thrust him into a situation where he is not only given the hunt of his life against a demon - asserting himself as an ultimate legend of all devils, which should be a dream - but instantly after is caught up in the biggest conspiracy against the gods - against his god - with proof.
teven is a devil in all his details - he values bloodlust & dark pleasure through pacts that others are caught in, through his honeyed words. it wasnt angelic of him to take fearne into the wings of the hells by kissing her hand with a seal of his lord's crest. but it interests me how, when he realized fearne didnt know the details of this pact, he not only explained what it entailed plainly, but encouraged her not to utilize it until she was sure she could handle losing a part of herself, which he could presently tell she couldn't. he is practically hungry with lust (of power and more), especially from fearne, but wanted her to know what she would benefit & lose from using this.... and thats frankly more than almost any other power source has done. he barely knows fearne but takes it upon himself to gruffly defend & include her whenever possible. it strikes me that teven has a code of honor. i mean, he should, as a paladin, but his is clear enough he would undermine his god (whom he clearly still loves) and burn the world if it meant assuring a woman he just met - who he should by all means completely manipulate - is safe.
with that code of honor that even undercuts his lord in mind, the group that will bear witness to the secrets that divinity hid consists of the bells, ludinus, essek... and him. no one asked him to follow ludinus to the occultus thalamus. matt should have forgotten him, juggling his 8 players as well as the world shaking villain of the campaign (and his once-protégé). but matt pointedly brought him in, last to enter. he is bearing witness to something his god would hate him ever knowing. of his own free will. (and if there's one thing we know, asmodeus is not fond of much free will at all.)
teven has only been present in 3 episodes so far; we dont know every detail about him, or what he will do in the future. but his setup and every implication around him is fascinating; it is hard not to hunger for his reaction to aeor's truth, not just because of him, but because of the ever-looming burden of history behind him, of zerxus chained away by asmodeus as avalir falls, of the way a fae & devil together are witnessing the worst of calamity when their people once allied to allow it. teven can see through smoke & mirrors; he knows that asmodeus is "shaken", that the gods are more familial than they want to admit. what else will he bluntly see in the memories he's about to witness? will he care about the mortals slaughtered for the crime of hubris & knowledge (especially with the theories he is a cambion, half human)? even if he doesnt care for the mortal suffering... what will he take out of actual proof of the gods uniting as one - to hide something fundamental from their followers? from him?

scorpius malfoy x cho changs daughter: secret relationship
scorpius malfoy and cho changs daughter have a secret, forbidden relationship. she is a smart, kind, beautiful gryffindor girl, even moreso than her mother, and attracts a lot of attention. whereas no father lets their daughter near scorpius because hes a deatheaters son with a reputation of sex, smoking and disobeying hogwarts rules. this has especially been relayed to her, as her mother experienced firsthand the death of cedric due to death eaters. but, no matter how hard she tries, she cant stay away from him.
sexual tension. long glances in class. sneaking off during balls when theyve both got different dates, her with james potter and him with an angsty slytherin girl. meeting in the bathroom. midnight strolls through the corridors, teasing her with nobody around.
they almost get caught, and that changes everything for her. her parents would kill her if they found out she was sneaking around with a deatheaters son. but she cant stay away from him.
so she hatches a plan without telling scorpius: shell date her best friend james potter, someone all of her friends and family wanted her to be with anyway, so that nobody suspects anything between her and malfoy. what does james get? hes into teddy lupin, and he needs to cover up his feelings for him by dating a girl. with all the attention he was getting from girls, people were starting to wonder why he wasnt dating anyway.
scorpius fucking despises this. he doesnt know about the plan because she doesnt want to hurt his feelings or risk losing him. they continue to have sex on and off, still wanting each other, but he feels like shit that shes with james instead of him. he doesnt understand why she keeps coming back to use him if shes got a boyfriend already. and its his bestfriends brother - its fucked. feeling betrayed, he shags other girls, ones that want him because the bad boy act is appealing. he makes sure she sees him.
for a while, she lets him. because shes been loving him from a distance for so long. but everyone has a breaking point. she meets hers after seeing scorpius go off with a really pretty veela girl, someone who looks nothing like her, and she becomes so insecure that she sleeps with james.
james, on the other hand, is in shock that hes not completely gay. maybe like 80 percent. but she is really really hot so he cant even blame himself tbh. because hes not fully gay, she suggests they end things with each other since its caused enough pain for everyone, and shes already lost the boy that she loves. hesitantly he asks her to hang in there and stay with him until he figures out his sexuality properly.
so she watches malfoy from a distance again. he absolutely despises her.
james meets a boy he likes in school. they get along really well. he speaks to her about it, and he comes to accept that hes bisexual. he also accepts that teddy will never be his, and theres more out there that actually suits him.
one day she bumps into scorpius at dinner. malfoy takes one good look at her and walks the other way.
"malfoy."
"dont."
"please. i cant stand that you hate me."
"theres a first time for everything, angel."
"i just want to talk to you."
"i dont want to hear it."
"youre being a dick."
"youre the dick, angel."
"im a dick-angel?"
"you know what? fuck off. youve got no right to stand here talking to me like that when you fucked off with james. i mean, james? of all fucking people."
"but i didnt."
"you -- "
"because i loved you. i love you."
the words just come out. she cant even help them. she supposed she would prefer being known as a cheater to everyone than for outing james sexuality.
shes crying now. sobbing.
"im beyond in love with you, and i dont know what to do."
"dont cry, angel. fuck, please dont cry."
"i cant be away from you anymore, malfoy. please dont go."
"i wont. i promise."
"malfoy -- "
"dont talk, just breathe. youre choking on your own tears."
"but i -- "
"i know," he says. "and ive loved you too."
then james decides to stand up and come out publically. that makes it all clearer to malfoy. eventually they do have to confess that james and her had shagged one time to test if he was really gay (and because she was insecure), which scorpius almost kills james for, but he was shagging people too so he accepts it. scorpius and her get together properly. everyone thinks of them as the couple they never expected, but the one they needed.

Cinder as Astarion or Vice Versa
(I... really need to do more with BG3 and actually learn more about the breakable vampire twink)
Cinder clutched her head as she swore she could hear Salem’s voice rattling around her mind, her breathing starting to become heavy as the scars on her back started to burn. It had been years since she was allowed to be near anyone, the other spawns like her kept separated from her while she was punished for yet another failure at seducing someone to bring to Salem.
“You know why I keep you, dont you?” Salem’s voice echoed around Cinder, almost as if she was in the same room. “You… are precious to me.”
“I-I didnt mean to fail you,” Cinder half whimpered as the burning of her scars started to die down. “There was an attack-”
“I dont care about why you failed me, I care that you werent able to follow simple instructions.”
Cinder winced as she felt Salem slap her, watching as the woman appeared in front of her. Her hand went to her cheek, feeling the blood that had started to drip. “I… I’m sorry…”
“And because you’re precious to me, I’m going to give you another chance.”
“You… you are?”
“I am.” Salem pulled away from Cinder with a smile. “Bring me another soul, and I’ll give you a little freedom.”
Cinder nodded and knelt down in front of Salem, nearly shaking at the opportunity. “O-of course, goddess.”
“Do not disappoint.”
Cinder looked up and watched as Salem practically dissolved like smoke, her body still in pain as she began to dress herself. Years of isolation made her desperate to please her goddess as she stood up and started to make her way to the door. She paused as she placed a hand on the doorknob, keeping still as she tried to determine if the sun was out by the heat of the metal. Once she was sure the sun had set, she opened the door, relaxing and let out the breath she held as she felt the cool night air against her skin.
She took a deep breath and made her way out into the village she had been locked away in, pulling the hood of her robe over her head to help keep herself from getting noticed. All she had to do was seduce someone she could bring to Salem, and she could be in her good graces once more. Though, the longer Cinder thought about it, the more she wasnt sure who would work anymore. Salem wasnt picky, just as long as she had bodies to feed from, that was all that mattered, but even then, there were those who didnt seem to last long, disposed of almost as quickly as they were brought.
Still, as long as Cinder followed instructions, she’d be safe. That much she knew. A smile crossed her lips as she looked around a corner, watching a couple thugs mug one of the villagers. Her fangs slowly started to grow as she made her way over, almost as quiet as the wind itself.
“Is that all you have?” one of the thugs asked with a scoff as he dumped out the contents of a woman’s bag, disappointed with the lack of anything worthwhile. “You’ve gotta have more.”
The woman’s voice started to break as she tried to pull away, finding her back against a wall. “T-that’s everything I have-” The woman’s words were cut off with a scream as the second thug slashed a knife against her arm.
“Maybe we’ll have to find another way to get what we want out of you,” the second thug said, wiping the blood off her blade. “A pretty thing like you will fetch a nice price.”
“Leave her alone,” Cinder said as her amber eyes started to turn red, fangs peeking out of her smile. “I’m sure you two can get your money somewhere else.”
The first thug looked over at Cinder, pulling his knife at her. “And what do we have here? Looks like we’ll have another one for him.”
Cinder smirked and gripped the hilt of her blades as she watched the thugs walk closer to her, gently tapping the pommel as she counted quietly to ten. “Ten,” she said just loud enough to be a whisper as she pulled her blades from her sheaths and sliced into the thugs arms and kicked his leg in.
“Gah!” the thug yelled out as he dropped his knife, falling back. “Leave that one and get her!”
The second thug pushed the woman away and rushed at Cinder, knife at the ready. “Right!”
Cinder grinned and sliced into the second thug, pushing him over just like the first. She licked her lips as she smelled the iron in their blood, nearly salivating as she hungered. She knelt down next to the first thug, licking her lips as she made a small cut along his neck, letting a little blood trickle down. With a quick swipe of her finger, she took a little blood and smiled as she savored the taste. “A little meal before I finish here wont hurt-”
Her words were cut off as she heard a *crack* in the sky as a portal opened up, the hair on the back of her neck as the air felt… off. A growl-like roar echoed out in the air above her as she looked up to see a nautiloid fly overhead. Cinder got up to start to run, feeling a tentacle grab her, body practically disintegrating as she lost consciousness.

Richard Horne x Fem!Reader
Summary: When a 'friend' of Richard threatened to harm his girlfriend y/n, Richard has to make sure she's alright.
Word count: 1.2k
Sorry for any spelling mistakes :)
Tumblr media
The relationship between y/n and Richard has always been… controversial. Mostly because of what he was known for. Most people in their hometown always knew Richard as an aggressive asshole but she didnt. Well, in the beginning she did but after a tough while she understood who he actually was: a broken young guy. Yes, he did many things that will always be considered as inexcusable and the young couple had many fights because of such things.
Their latest fight was about a topic that was often the reason to argue with each other. Richard used to spend much time with some sketchy guys, drinking and smoking together. Y/n didnt like those guys at all. They creeped her out and she wanted Richard to stay away from them but who was she to tell him what to do.
And so she was at her own place while Richard was at the house of one of those sketchy guys. Well, it wasnt actually a real house but more like an abandoned building with broken windows and missing furniture. But it had a bar with enough alcohol to drown a person. They were playing Poker but Richard overestimated himself again. His stakes were ridiculously high until he had nothing to bet anymore.
“Listen, Horne… we're friends, aren't we?” One of those sketchy guy said. “You got that cute little girl at your side, hm? Here is the deal: Since you can't pay your debt, I'm gonna visit your girl and claim what is mine”
“Come on, man…” Richard said in shock. “You're joking, right?”
The other guy only laughed, creating a tense vibe and making Richard extremely nervous. Although he hated basically everyone and never gave a shit about anything and everything, he always cared about y/n. She was his girlfriend and he promised himself to never let her get hurt. He loved her even though he couldnt say it out loud.
“I'm not fucking joking, Horne… I'm sick of the way you treat your debts. You owe me so much fucking money and I was always generous enough to give you time.” The guy was almost yelling. “You don't have the money to pay me and yet I always see you spending money on booze and that girl of yours. And since you spend all the money that belongs to me on her, I'm gonna get what’s mine”
The guy stood up furiously and drove away. Richard panicked. That asshole cannot hurt his girlfriend. He couldn’t. Richard started to spam y/n's phone with texts and calls but she doesn't seem to be looking at her phone. So there was only one way for him: visit her.
He ran to his car and got in. He drove way above the speed limit but he couldn't care less. All he cared about was y/n. He was so worried all the way to her home. He cursed himself for being so stupid and for even knowing that guy. Everything he ever did came back to him in this very moment and he was scared. Genuinely scared.
And then he arrived at her door. He rang and knocked and rang and knocked until she finally opened the door. Richard has never been more happy to see her and only after he calmed down he noticed that she was only wearing a bathrobe.
He looked her up and down with a smirk and stormed towards her to kiss her. She was just too sexy to resist. He didn’t even try to start off gently, his kisses were always rough from the first moment. He locked the door before pushing her against the wall and trapping her there with his whole body while his tongue explored her mouth eagerly. His hands roamed over her body and her bathrobe quickly came off. She smelled so nice and Richard just had to have her, right here, right now. He carried her to the bedroom and practically threw her on her bed. And then he made sure to relieve all the anger, pain and fear inside him.
And then they cuddled. This was not something that Richard wanted but y/n asked him to and he couldn't deny her wish. And although he would have never admitted it, he liked these calm moments with her. He held her in his arms and tried to kiss her again, to hug her and hold her more tightly but she wasn't having it. Richard behaved in a weird way and although he often behaved weirdly, she wanted and explanation. She needed it. So she looked up at him while she traced random patterns on his chest.
“What in hell is it this time?” She asked with a sigh that almost sounded a little pissed.
“Why didn't you check your phone or answer my calls?” Richard responded, making y/n roll her eyes.
“I was taking a shower. I can't check my phone in the shower and I didn't hear it ring either. And then I step out of the shower and see that I got seven missed calls and fifteen texts from you. So what the fuck is going on?”
Richard sighed and told her everything, leaving y/n in shock but also anger. But before she could say anything in response, his phone rang and he answered the call. He talked to the person on the other end for a while and then he put his phone down and cuddled with y/n again, without saying anything.
Usually he would tell her what was wrong but this time was different. Richard seemed genuinely disturbed and in shock and y/n didn't want to upset him further. She waited until he spoke. And he did.
“He's dead” His boys came out as barely a whisper, y/n almost couldn't hear it. Almost. “He threatened to… harm you and got in his car and… he had an accident… He's dead…”
Y/n could see that tears were welling up in his eyes. She kept caressing his chest and she kissed his cheek but it didn’t cheer him up. Instead he only tightened his grip on her waist and kissed the top of her head.
“I don't want to live like this anymore…” He whispered against her hairline. Y/n pulled away a little to look at him.
“What do you mean?”
“I know that this is not how I want to keep going. I don't want to cause you any harm or put you in danger… I could never forgive myself. I need help.” Richard was almost crying.
“Rich… it will be hard but I'm right by your side, okay? I want to help you change and find the right path…”
Richard seemed hopeful but he was still tearing up.
“I love you” He whispered.
Y/n opened her eyes wide in surprise. This was the first time he said that. He never dared to say anything like that, he just wasn't the type for such a big commitment. But he changed already. He knew that she was the only person he could trust and the only one he cared about. The only one he truly loved with all his heart and soul.
Y/n looked into his eyes and gave him a gentle kiss on the lips.
“I love you too.”

Like i know it’s a job but what if…he actually gets turned on?’ (This is the moment where I actually thought about telling him Gale is straight but went against it to not “ruin” the magic) *starts ep again* ‘oh shit, Ted is in deep shit isnt he? THIS IS BULLSHIT!’ *ethan pops up, he pauses the tv and smacks his head* ‘OH COME ON! There’s no escaping this fucker is there?! OH WAIT JUSTIN DIDNT TELL HIM HE SAW HIM? nevermind. i forgot Justin can drive. Why couldn’t he ever drive Brian’s car? WHY DIDNT HE TELL YOU? WHAT DID HE SEE? Oh he’s gay for sure’ ‘I think I should give Ted a lesson into how to talk to your mom on the phone. We have a lovely relationship! I tell her about my recovery and Brian and how Justin is stupid for leaving and she tells me to go fuck myself and then asks about my day and tells me she loves me. It’s perfect.’ ‘Sooo instead of talking to his boyfriend and being like either you stop drugging your tushy or im out, he’s making his best friends ex boyfriend draw him? Mike, be honest with me..where were you on the day when the good lord was giving away a brain that worked?’ ‘WHY ARE WE HYPING UP ETHAN? WE HATE ETHAN? Why did we never hype up Brian! How are you gonna blame him for that? THANK YOU DAPHNE HE WAS HONEST! I knew you and i would get along! Now give me Jen and Daphne and Brian together! Oh my god Justin, who are you trying to convince that you love him and arent worried he cheated? Me or you?’ ‘BRIAN! It’s my boy Brian! Working on a homophobes commercial. This is pure bullshit! He would never. EMMETT AND BRI BRI! Why is Brian suddenly such a horrible friend to them? What is going on? This isn’t normal? THATS RIGHT EMY TELL HIM! He DOES care about his friends even if he acts like he doesn’t. I feel like Emmett is the only one who can kinda scare Brian. Bri Bri, this is bullshit why are you doing this to me? He’s just a little lost because of Justin. I’m sure of it, right? *looks at me all scared*’ Stockwell and Brian are currently in a steam room ‘oh this is the first hetero steam room he’s been in, huh? exactly Brian! Help Ted! Oh this dude is for sure gay. WHY DOES IT ALWAYS GIVE ME ETHAN AFTER BRIAN?!’ HE THEN PAUSED THE TV TO GO ON A SMOKE AND I WAS ACTUALLY ANGRY BC THEE SCENE IS UP!!!
I feel like Emmett is the only one who can kinda scare Brian. <- YEP
I am just going to present this without comment because my comments are all "yes" and "right on" and "exactly."

I went out of my way (not really) to watch this movie TOGETHER WITH OP so I could read this monster.
I'm sure like 5 people have watched this shitty lil movie. But it doesn't matter. I shall read this essay of my friend's insane I mean enlightened prose.
Alright starting now:
In case one Showdown wasnt enough. Oh god there are two of them
These amazing shots of cinematography: NO MORE MERCY. KILL YOURSELF.
Omg i didnt notice he smoked the stolen pack i thought that was his own pack. Thats funny ngl
EVERYONE DOES LOOK AT LEAST 24 YEARS OLD
Yeah fr the vibe is so rancid there's no narrative at all about preventing violence, just which violence is intolerable (it clearly takes quite a bit to be intolerable) but I guess that makes sense…cop character…
NO FR THEY BRIEFLY MENTIONED, NOT IN THESE WORDS, THAT CAPITALISM LEADS TO VIOLENCE. THEN NEVER AGAIN. BROOOO
doomed by the narrative not for any compelling reason but because everyone is psycho crazy violent
Nobody else will talk about this - you sure are right about that 💗
It is kinda funny the shitty nature of everyone doing crap for money, like some of the teen fighters and Kate, are a large part of the film and considered bad - and Ken's last name is Marx, implying a critique of capitalism. YET Ken fights in the ring while everyone makes bets and the teen fighters aren't mentioned again. Ffs
And no yeah fr Ken was not just dumb about trying to get Julie but also unapologetic about it when his Oh Lets Just Be Friendssss thing didnt hit
Our holy cannoli, Daniel/Ralph
WAIT CRYING I DIDNT REALIZE THAT. SORRY EDDIE 💔
Julie/Ken/Mike truther over here thats me thats right
Making me mad again with that unelaborated scene with Billy. But mostly confused. Literally why show that when it has no further purpose
Literally there were two or three montages you couldve characterized Billy more in that time 😐
Sorry what? What? Dude I did not register Lee knew Billy at all. Where the hell was that mentioned in the movie. I didnt get the revenge thing at all
Yeah I saw the picture but. Man lets be honest all these random white guys look the same. Didnt register that shit at all. Guess that makes more sense now
Omg Kate is kind of like the Silver to his Kreese youre rignt…I wish she wasnt so erotically weird about high school boys. Haha nooo dont engage in predatory behavior youre so sexy…
I do like that point. They really do seem like partners, like no one has more power than the other. And yet theres no boss controlling them. They genuinely have their system as co-leaders of this thing. Thats actually a refreshing dynamic for a male and female villain haha
I mean yeah its mostly professional but there is that weird moment where Lee moves her hair off her shoulder. I didn't like that haha…
She has a bit of a mean streak but the movie doesnt know FRRRR but to be fair id be kind of an ass too having to deal with Tom
Reading through the bits about Julie and Kate accidentally merging in your mind makes me so disappointed again. It wouldve been so good!!! Alas a plot such as that is ahead of Showdown's time…
The first photo in the Tom section makes it looks like he's in a poly relationship with his friends which. Mightve saved him. Poly dynamics really would have saved all of them actually.
GINA GINA GINA. Youre such a cutie pie. And a bitch. I want you.
Literally Tom barely pays attention to her but then is like DONT TALK TO ANOTHER GUY OR ILL KILL HIM like Tom Jesus christ maybe SHOW SOME AFFECTION THEN
To be honest maybe Julie looks so similar to Kate for the exact reason i said before. Shes a stand in. And Tom abuses her because he cant abuse Kate who makes him feel so powerless and small.
Like whether I'm right or not I still fucking hate Tom. Lee's treatment of Tom also explains Tom's treatment of Julie but again, fuckin whatever. Tom can suck my dick and choke
Literally if Kate was a man and Tom a girl and the movie ended without punishment for Kate for being in a relationship with a minor, everyone would grab their pitchforks, hello???
Yeah the end with Tom is so dissatisfying. At least Johnny dissociates
I HATE THIS MOVIE TOO. Compels me though.
HELD TOGETHER BY SHOESTRING AND DUCT TAPE LMFAO. YEAH. YEAH.
Oh I'll tell you about it…again.
The basic premise of The Karate Kid (1984) — down on his luck new kid learns how to defend himself and ultimately triumphs over his bullies with the help of a wise, old mentor — is far from unique. But since its release, a wave of movies in the 80s and even as far as into the 90s, clearly inspired by Daniel and Mr. Miyagi, came in with fists raised, ready to dominate late night television and home media.
There's No Retreat, No Surrender (1985), The Power Within (1995) (whose villain is played by none other than William Zabka), and my personal favorite of this niche genre: Showdown (1993), directed by Robert Radler
Tumblr media
Also known as American Karate Tiger, for a reason that I could only assume has to do with the fact No Retreat, No Surrender is also known as Karate Tiger (no relation to these films however, besides in genre and story)
Anyway, make no mistake: this is not a good movie. I say it's my favorite, not because of its quality, but because there's just So Much About It that wouldn't leave my mind. This is besides the fact it's transparently derivative of The Karate Kid (hell, the main character in the movie references it in a scene! I was so mad!) — the way it's different (and worse) delights me to no end that the others hadn't achieved somehow.
tldr; a LONG assortment of words with some analysis because I need to tell people about this movie ahfkakfaf. NOT a coherent essay (or an essay at all really)
Part 1: Boring stuff like BACKGROUND or THEMES
First thing to know: there's another movie with the same name that was released in 1933 too, but that one's directed by Leo Fong. In case one Showdown wasn't enough.
Now, Showdown never calls it karate, and I'm not going to pretend and say I could easily tell from one type of martial arts to another by glance, so I'm going to refrain from calling this movie strictly any certain type. Anyway, Its fighting content is more reminiscent of another film that came out in the same year and that'd be familiar to Karate Kid fans and lovers of William Zabka's filmography: Shootfighter (1993).
Like Shootfighter, an underground, illegal fighting ring plays a significant role in Showdown, albeit being less fatal and a local scene. A group of teens and young (?) adults, led by their bloodthirsty criminal sensei, in a dojo make up some of its participants, which naturally incentivizes the high schoolers in the dojo to be aggressive in school — bullying, intimidation, cultish significance in aggression and domination blah blah blah blah we all know the type. Regardless, the high school the new kid moves to certainly doesn't need any help throwing him into the deep end of trouble. By the first five minutes of introduction, his new schoolmates are seen stealing, driving motorcycles on school campus, and contributing to these amazing shots of cinematography:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm sure they've all got their reasons and such for their misbehavior, or not because they're nothing more than dressing for the background when they aren't the Cobra Kai lookalikes. One thing I can assume is true for all students is a distinct sense of parental neglect, considering the only parents we see is five minutes of the main character's mom, who's job hunting is never quite resolved by the end of the movie and whom I could only guess decided to fit in to the new place by also abandoning her son to travel to the next state or two for a job.
In addition to this, the members of the school staff are either struggling to do their best or instead doing the bare minimum. The most effort disciplining and guidance we see is a pack of cigarettes taken away by the vice principal... before he's smoking it himself behind a building. Honestly, I don't blame him.
Including those involved with the illegal fighting ring, the only barely respectable adult figure around is the janitor, who is — you've guessed it — the "Mr. Miyagi" character of the movie. But considering we've first been introduced to him as a former cop who quit after having accidentally killed a teen (apparently? Everybody looks at least 24 years old) during the job, it's hard pickings around here.
Why am I introducing this all firstly? Well, it's not a deep movie at all, and yet the first thing Showdown introduces to the audience is this oddly grim mood that makes up a major theme of the film: the inevitability of violence. Even when the main character learns how to defend himself, it is with the sense of precaution to be prepared to fight, not for finding a way to end them. The aura of aggression never truly leaves the scenes to let the main character be in peace for long, and he eventually falls into the illegal fighting ring himself out of his own volition — only, it's the Mega Ultra Battle in the end so it's badass and not treated as bleak at all. Hell, the main tagline of the movie is literally "There is no other way."
It's interesting that the main character learns to defend himself because of the efforts from the former cop turned janitor. And while he busts the operation in the end, the janitor ultimately returns to the force, as well as takes up a job to teach the (now arrested) sensei's former students as his own. Sure, they wouldn't be strung into illegal fighting rings anymore, but I question how much the inevitability of violence is enforced because of the expectation of its existence in the first place. Even in the finale, when the main character and his mentor get their happy ending and defeat their respective rivals, it's not with a new future promising radical change for nonviolence and reconstruction, but a grim determination that they could rise to the challenge of the eventual call to aggression.
There is some effort to try and answer the question: "Why do people commit violence?" For example, the main character learns that many teens involved in the fighting ring are trying to pay for college. He himself empathizes, with his mother expressing frustration about being unable to find a good job. Nevertheless, both the main character and his mentor ultimately condemn the practice as exploitment and bust the fighting ring. While this frees the participants from any more physical harm, the question of how the teens fighting for money could support themselves (the reason that got them into illegal fighting in the first place) is never asked again.
This is not even to mention the actual physical — and even psychological — consequences of illegal tournament fighting that are barely portrayed, if at all. Most attitudes surrounding involvement by the teens are blasé, if content with the gigs they got. It's not hard to imagine that they've been manipulated by an intimidating sensei into what is essentially a cult of violence, but Showdown does not dwell on that. This is not the only thing it does not dwell on.
I'm not necessarily saying a former cop janitor and a high schooler in his midtwenties could singlehandedly rid their society of the deeper, insidious causes that breed the cycle of violence in communities. And frankly, this is a lot to ask for a movie that was never made to answer such questions, and it knows itself. I can recognize that. However, Showdown's fatalistic attitude towards violence feels particularly dooming in an otherwise stupid movie.
As a conclusion to this point, here are the opening words to Showdown as the first thing the audience learns about the film, with a sense of finality in its belief:
Tumblr media
Part 2: You would think I'd introduce the characters first
Like the premise, the characters of Showdown share many of the same archetypes as the ones in The Karate Kid. The 1984 film however has a more nuanced and colorful cast, and I will be the asshole comparing the two films and their respective characters shamelessly. Admittedly, this section is the most like a summary, so I won't go through every single person but those I find interesting enough to talk about. I do promise to share whatever cool trivia I learned of the actors however, because nobody else sure will.
Firstly, let's take a look at the main character. Unlike Daniel LaRusso, who looks 12 but was played by a 22 year old at the time, Ken Marx looked as old as he did portrayed by someone who definitely was too old to be in high school.
Tumblr media
'"I get it. When this is all over, I'm gonna know how to do all kinds of karate blocks, right? It's like, uh, wax on wax off, paint the fence, sand the floor..."
Ken Marx/Marks is a fine protagonist. New kid from Kansas, he's nice enough (especially compared to his new schoolmates) and has a strong sense of justice, but Ken seems to lack the same young, vulnerable angst as his predecessor Daniel about loneliness in someplace completely new. He, like any other supposed ordinary kid in high school, is embarrassed by the slight coddling of his single mother (who moved with him so she could find a job eventually), yet is understanding and wants to help her with money. Unlike Daniel, I could say with absolute certainty that Ken was trying to steal the girlfriend of the very guy who'd make it his mission to beat Ken up at every opportunity the minute he set foot in school. Arguably deserved some of the shit he got. Dick move, Marx (or Marks? Different sources say one or the other, but there's something funny imagining this All American guy with a name that's a little reminiscent of something... revolutionary).
One of the most notable differences between Daniel and Ken is in their state of origin: New Jersey versus Kansas. Not to profile, but I absolutely think it makes for more than just a minor change in their characters. Ken certainly doesn't have that "East Coast swagger" (as Ralph Macchio himself amazingly puts it) as Daniel does. His Midwest origins reflect through his easy kindness and endearing naïvete, but I've gotta admit that it doesn't do much to help him stand out as a protagonist. Still, even if I'm not especially invested in him, Ken's easygoing personality and humble origins are only boring and forgettable at worst, and I can admire his dedication to learn how to defend himself. That being said, Ken certainly could not be confused for Daniel and his Jersey Fire. The best example of this is Daniel versus Ken's reaction when their request to learn self-defense is first denied; while Daniel is openly upset and petulant, Ken is quiet but aquiesces with understanding. Ken is a nice kid sure, a little more mature and respectful than his predecessor, but that also makes him quite average. To further steal analogies from Macchio himself, it's like the difference between a cannoli and an apple pie.
Ken is played by Kenn Scott, an experienced martial artist. It's incredibly funny watching him throughout the movie be swamped in big jackets and whatnot to hide the guy's ripped abs, pecs, and biceps until it pays off at the end when he takes off his shirt in the big fight. Funnily enough, Scott is also in Shootfighter as Eddie, aka that guy who didn't want to go back in the ring and got killed for it.
Tumblr media
RIP Eddie. We hardly knew ye.
Honorable mention goes to Ken's mom, whose name is only seen briefly on her shirt tag from work: Shirley. I can still hear her sighing about a job in her giant coat and 1989 Ford Probe to this day.
Ken doesn't feel as lonely as a character as Daniel does in The Karate Kid. While he is like Daniel in that they both quickly latch onto an older man who displays them a little bit of kindness, Ken finds himself another friend at school to keeps his company from feeling too lonely.
Tumblr media
"Well listen, I just remembered I left my cat in the microwave."
Mike (played by John Asher) is meant to be funny and awkward, the wimpy but harmless guide to introduce Ken (and the audience) to his new setting. Mike even has a lackluster Clique Tour Moment à la Mean Girls of a couple distinct students or student groups to demonstrate his knowledge of the school populace to the new kid. He wears clashing patterns, says something funny for a moment or does something silly in the background, throws a few flimsy kicks and punches during a training montage, breaks the fourth wall, and walks away with the hero and his love interest in the most throuple-coded way ever.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, this is the most boy best friend Mike gets with Ken in the movie.
Mike has subtle growth throughout Showdown admittedly — from a cowardly goofball who shrinks away at the barest glare from the bullies and lets the new kid eat dirt on his own, to Ken's best friend that joins him in training a little, stays by his side til the end when he needs the most support, and even helps subsue one of the bad guys.
Of course, the real duo in Showdown — their rendition of the Daniel and Mr. Miyagi relationship — is between Ken and the janitor at school, who saves kids getting beaten up to make up for the fact he accidentally murdered one seven years ago.
Tumblr media
"No, this is called toilet cleaning. It teaches humility. Then, I want you to startover here on those urinals."
Billy Grant is riddled with guilt for killing someone on the job, so much that he voluntarily quit the force afterwards — except, Billy expresses thoughts about coming back after being told by Ken of the illegal fighting ring, and eventually does return, so here's hoping Billy learned something in the seven years he "fell off the Earth" (according to his old partner at least, which I find highly doubtful. Guy's only left the force seven years ago, stayed in the area, and found a job as a janitor, but apparently disappeared?? Come on). Nevertheless, he's a Good Guy™ who saves Ken's ass at least three times — just as many times as Mr. Miyagi does Daniel's. This version of Wax On, Wax Off is just making Ken clean toilets, wash off graffiti, throw away trash, etc. — janitorial stuff — to help build his endurance. Let's be honest here though, this is infinitely more like child labor than whatever Mr. Miyagi had ever done.
One moment in the movie I find odd, because they never touch on it again after introducing it, is when Billy saves Ken from two of his bullies. In the end, he puts one of them in a headlock, which lasts for several seconds. It's strongly implied Billy would have continued holding it, if it weren't for Ken's cry for him to stop. The bully drops to the ground as he coughs for breath, and Billy literally runs off in horror.
Tumblr media
Ken: Stop! Billy, don't.
It makes it seem like Billy could have some reason to lose control, like unresolved anger issues, his trauma, or perhaps a dark and hidden inclination to cruelty (if the movie wanted to go there). However, Ken never brings this up to Billy, and this lapse in judgement never occurs again in the movie. There isn't even a moment for him to reflect in solitude of what he almost did to those teenage boys to imply there is something more to his internal conflicts. And this loss of control is also absent in Billy's big fight against the criminal sensei.
I'm not even sure it makes sense at all with the trauma Billy actually has that influences his actions? He accidentally killed a kid by tossing him aside onto the floor, which had led to his head making contact with some stairs and killed him upon impact. This was a poorly decided action, but a quick one made in the heat of the moment nonetheless. How on Earth does this translate paychologically to losing control while holding someone in a chokehold? If the implication is that his trauma causes Billy to lose control when caught in a fight, not only does it not make sense, but it also never shows up again in the movie and thus makes the moment where he almost chokes a teenager too hard irrelevant. It sticks out, especially when Billy for the rest of the movie is otherwise unmistakenly altruistic and heroic.
Unfortunately, Billy just doesn't get to have the same room for depth as Mr. Miyagi does. Billy is kind, brave, strong, and wise, but there just aren't enough scenes in Showdown that reveal much of his human, vulnerable qualities to complement the heroic ones.
Billy may be the first major character introduced in the movie, alongside his guilt and regret, but Showdown doesn't dwell on how it's weighed Billy for long; his anger and efforts to bust the illegal fighting ring are all but stated outright to be fueled by a desire to make up for accidentally causing someone else's death years ago and wants to make sure no more young people are senselessly hurt, but the film does not let Billy open up about it. At Ken's question asking if that's the reason, Billy is silent before stoically taking a moral stance on the issue. He spins the topic back to Ken's training, and that's the end of Billy being allowed to be more than an archetype, instead a flawed human being who's been personally affected because of his mistakes:
Tumblr media
Ken: Billy, I knew you always weren't a janitor. And I want you to tell the truth. Billy: Ken, I used to be a cop. Then I killed a kid. It was a mistake. Ken Did you have to quit? Billy: No, I couldn't handle it anymore. But I'm thinking about getting back into it. Ken: You want to bust the guys that are running the fights? Billy: ...They're hurting kids to make money, and that's not right. These people are dangerous. If you refuse to fight for them, it could be real trouble for you. Ken: Well, we'll just keep training, right? Billy: Yeah, go warm up.
Following this scene, Billy calls his old partner in the force to help him investigate a way to bust the illegal fighting ring. He's ultimately driven to action by his guilt, but do we as the audience get to see Billy afterwards emotionally open up about his choices, both in the past and the ones in the present made to rectify his mistakes? Nope.
It never feels like Billy's character could be anything else but Ken's mentor, or the big ultimate hero. For all we know, he's been dealing with the guilt of his wrongdoings all on his own for seven years, and he jumps into action the moment he thinks he could do some real, good change. But Billy's internal shift gets streamlined in order to prioritize training montages or cool cop shit. He is kind, brave, strong, and wise, but he does not get to be three-dimensional.
Of course, I have to acknowledge that no one in Showdown is. This isn't a movie that's meant to be beholden of dimensions. As I continue to compare it to The Karate Kid or lament about flatness or whatever, it's imperative to remember that Showdown is a stupid movie.
That being said, I nevertheless cannot help but feel especially disappointed by the flatness of Billy's character — not only because he is one of the most major characters of the movie, if not the most important, but also because Billy the most prominent person of color in the movie, and a Black character at that. Billy's role does not soley revolve around the White male protagonist, and he does have his own drives and motivation, but Showdown falls short in depicting Billy as a nuanced Black character with depth and vulnerability.
He's played by another actor who shares the same first name as him, Billy Blanks, whom I'm actually not that familiar with even though he is arguably the biggest name involved with Showdown. He's been in a bunch of other martial arts films, so that's cool.
Shoutout to his former partner Officer Spinelli, who gets a special shower scene in the beginning of the movie. Amazing.
Here's the crazy thing about Billy's accidental murder that haunts him: that kid was none other than the younger brother of the main villain, the "Kreese" character, who soon is driven to revenge upon laying his eyes on Billy again after seven years.
Tumblr media
"I woooon..."
Lee is batshit insane. First of all, he's the ringleader, or at least the main attraction, of the local illegal fighting ring that occurs somehow secretly in his dojo with huge crowds of people. Second of all, he has his own version of the Cobra Kai mantra to drill into his child soldiers: "Success is control, control is success." Third of all, he hires his goons to, not only try and kill Billy, but also to make sure it's done on school campus so everyone could see the body, because this guy evades authorities so easily already. What the fuck is wrong with this man. The only trait Lee has that doesn't make him into even more of an aspiring supervillain is the protective love he has for his brother Max, and even that soon enough becomes revenge fodder for Lee when he witnesses his brother die in the prologue.
Tumblr media
Max (left) and Lee (right), ready to take world together by storm...
Lee is played by Patrick Kilpatrick, who I can tell is having the time of his goddamn life playing such a Ham and Cheese PLATTER of a character. His performance plays jump rope with the line that splits between 'menacing' and 'ridiculous', and I love that for him. Kilpatrick was also on an episode of The Equalizer (though not an episode with William Zabka haha)! Patrick Kilpatrick wasn't the only choice to play Lee, however. Another was Bolo Yeung, but he would later turn out to have a role in another 1993 martial arts movie: Shootfighter (a William Zabka project again).
And he shares the same name as the villain of Shootfighter, Mr. Lee haha (played by Martin Kove, aka Kreese in The Karate Kid)
The greatest thing about Lee is that he has a right hand woman running the operation alongside him — almost like the "Silver" to his "Kreese".
Tumblr media
"Relax! I don't bite — not unless you want me to..."
Kate is undeniably the brains of the of the two. While Lee uses his physical prowess, skill, and intimidation to dominate others into following, Kate smoothtalks and negotiates it all out to work in their favor with intellect, charm, and often times sex appeal. Kate is the most stylish of the cast, and probably the one with the most money, as she's seen reguarly with styled hair, classy jewelry, sleek dresses, and is in possession of a Mercedes Benz (as well as a Chysler Lebaron convertible, but who am I to judge).
Kate and Lee's relationship is professional, for the most part. He lashes out at her once, but she easily snaps at him back, and it's never clear if one is working for the other. Regardless, Kate and Lee have got their respective strengths they use to their advantage, so they each play a different role in their collective business. There are hints to some affection between the two business partners, but it's not a major focus at all.
Kate is also creepy as fuck. I'll cover more of her in the next part.
She's played by Linda Dona, whose role was initially invented when Bolo Yeung was set to be Lee. Since Yeung could not speak English, Kate was to be his translator. Of course, this was no longer needed once Kilpatrick took on the role of Lee, but Dona stuck anyway when the writers rewrote her role.
In these type of movies, it's uncommon to see more than one significant female character as part of the story, and so Kate stands out, especially compared to the love interest of Ken.
Tumblr media
"You know, I thought you were on the track team or something. But you're not, you're working out with the janitor."
Julie doesn't have a lot to work with, besides being an object of affection for Ken and part of the source of the conflict between him and her boyfriend (the "Johnny" character, obviously). She's blonde and innocently pretty like Ali (unlike Kate's mature seductiveness), but Julie lacks the same assertiveness as the Karate Kid character. While Ali plays a pivotal role in helping Daniel and Mr. Miyagi understand the rules of the All Valley Tournament, Julie is reduced to the typical helplessness her type of character is often confined to, being pushed to the side as a spectator of the big fight in the end.
Julie does what she can in the plot — she tries to speak up against her boyfriend's actions several times, and she even stops (or at least delays) one of his attacks on Ken— but Julie, like Ali, is pacified by the narrative to do much of anything else besides express disapproval and side with the heroes. Julie also has a bit of a mean streak, but I don't think the movie knows that lmao.
Now, I am not the greatest with differentiating people, especially those with the same general look. So upon first watch, I had accidentally thought Julie and Kate were the same character, especially since Kate's introduction offered no close ups to differentiate her as someone new. AND IF THAT HAD BEEN TRUE, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CRAAAAAZY; sweet and innocent high school girl secretly a greedy, manipulative, femme fatale in charge of an illegal fighting ring? IT BLEW MY MIND.
I WAS SEEING JULIE IN A WHOLE, DIFFERENT LIGHT. Her introduction for one thing made sense to me why it was so strange! Ken first lays eyes on her when he jumped onto the ground at the sound of firecrackers he thought were gunshots, which made the crowd of students around Ken to laugh at him. Julie is among the students shamelessly laughing at this kid, and it isn't until when they lock eyes does she stop laughing and walks away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The scene cements to the audience that Ken's new peers are cruel, delinquent, and indifferent to his confusion — but Julie is part of that crowd! It's incredibly strange to frame Julie as the love interest by the language of cinematography, someone the audience is meant to invest in to pair off with the main character, when her behavior is indistinguishable from the callous mob, besides being pretty. She doesn't apologize for this in the scenes talking to Ken for the first time either.
Another moment that made me look back was how Julie was smart enough to calm her boyfriend down the first time he confronted Ken for trying to talk to her by alluring his attention away.
Tumblr media
Julie: Leave him alone... Please...[...]He didn't know about you...! He's new here...
While Julie had good intentions, this demonstrates a level of manipulation towards people that she'd readily use if it meant getting what she wanted. As Kate is later introduced, this shared quality between them made me further convinced in my confusion that they were the same character — only, I thought Kate being manipulative was Julie's true colors being as sinister as they actually were.
Now, a teen girl laughing at some guy for jumping to conclusions (pun intended) and thinking gunshots in the middle of the hallway and using her attractiveness to turn her boyfriend's attention away from someone he intended to hurt are aren't glaring signs of evil or criminal behavior. But that is EXACTLY why I confused Kate for Julie and thought these actions in retrospect were subtle clues to her being more than just the bland love interest that the protagonist wins in the end.
In addition to this, Mike's first words to Ken about Julie would have been almost perfect foreshadowing:
Tumblr media
Mike: I see, you have a death wish. Ken: ...Excuse me? Mike: The blonde, Julie... She's beautiful. She's elegant...! I mean– just forget about it. She's trouble.
Mike afterwards explains to Ken that Julie's boyfriend is dangerous and that's why she would be trouble, but if it would have been almost genius writing if she turned out to be a secret villain. The audience wouldn't think twice about that comment, especially since Mike himself only believes Julie would cause trouble for Ken because of her boyfriend specifically. There'd be no reason to think deeper about his warning!
Julie's grimacing apology the following day to Ken for her boyfriend's behavior transformed into being SLIMY, IT WAS AMAZING. I was so excited to watch him fall for someone who wasn't at all like what he thought she was — and then I figured out Julie and Kate were two, separate female characters. Damn.
You may recognize Julie's actress, Christine Taylor, because she was involved with another film William Zabka was in: To the Ends of Time. He just keeps being relevant somehow.
But speaking of William Zabka, what about his character's equivalent in this movie? I talked about the protagonists, the love interest, the villains — but who's the guy in the story that's actually the most prominent threat to Ken? Who's the third player next to Ken and Julie in their teenage love drama? Who's the student trained the hardest by Lee and treated as the best of the best, his strongest fighter, who falls at the end and almost dies at the hands of his sensei for it?
Part 3: We need to talk about Tom
warning for discussions of abusive relationships, as well as physical abuse, psychological abuse, sexual abuse, unhealthy power dynamics, and grooming
I'm dedicating a whole section to talk about the "Johnny" equivalent, because I've got so much to say about Tom, the others around him, and parts of the film around his character.
Tumblr media
"It's payback time, needledick."
So, Tom. I had briefly shown his character earlier when covering Billy, as well as Julie — kind of hard to talk around him when he's causing so many of the issues for others, little shit. Like Johnny, Tom is tall, blond, aggressive, and does not take kindly to the new guy being too friendly to his girlfriend (ex girlfriend in Johnny's case, but still). Like Johnny, Tom is the most formidable fighter training under his sensei, and his sensei also punishes Tom ruthlessly after losing in the ending fight, before being saved by the protagonist's mentor. Unlike Johnny, Tom looks well into his adulthood — but hey, so does everybody else in this goddamn high school.
He's played by Ken McLeod, who is a real life martial artist with a black belt in karate. Honestly, he's probably doing the best job acting in this film — that, or he's just so entertaining that his performance stands out by that alone. In general, the antagonists are just much more fun to watch than the protagonists. In McLeod's case, he gets the honor of spitting in people's faces with a mean smile or scowl, huffing and puffing when anything pisses his character off, and having his momenta to act with vulnerability to show some versatility in his performance.
White the picture may imply differently, Tom has his own group of loyal friends, Showdown's version of the Cobras.
If Rob on the left is familiar, that's because he's played by Michael Cavalieri, who would soon later play Ned Randall in The Next Karate Kid (1994). I don't know how much of it was in the script, but Cavalieri adds these small, humorous quirks to his character if you pay attention, and it's great. He's the most prominent of Tom's friend, who joins in on much of the bullying, but shows an surprising honorable side near the end. Rob is seemingly Tom's closest friend, as he is almost always by his side and encourages him the most of the group. However, even Rob has his limits, as Tom's worsening behavior almost drives him away. Nevertheless, Rob can't help himself but still support his buddy in his final fight when he fights against Ken. When Lee starts to beat on Tom for losing, the other characters have to hold Rob back from jumping in to defend him (which, is so weird??? Like, HELLO THAT GROWN ASS MAN IS TRYING TO KILL THAT GUY???? WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE GONNA HOLD BACK SOMEONE TRYING TO HELP HIM?????)
Gina (played by Seidy Lopez) is the second/third most prominent female character in the movie, so that means she has to have at least one scene alluring a male character to get him to do what she wants, joy. Gina seems to be the calmest and most levelheaded one of the group — she reminds others that the best place to pick a fight is anywhere but the classroom — but even she coldly revels in terrorizing like the rest of those training under Lee. Gina may be the least troubled by his hyperaggressive leadership in fact, as she is the least visibly disturbed when Lee attacks Tom, and she is the only (former) student not to join in on the others when they start cheering for Billy after he defeats Lee at the end (she does however cheer when Billy accepts Rob's offer to teach them, so maybe Gina just ain't picky with who teaches them how to fight). We never see Gina do any fighting, unfortunately. It's clear she's not a girlfriend who hangs around the boys, as Gina not only attends the class but is seen practicing with a punching bag. Feminism win! This violent dojo is for all genders! So where's Gina's moment to give someone a shiner?
The Bill Skarsgård lookalike's name is unfortunately never said in the movie, but I'm preeeeetty sure it's Bob (credited as being played by Jeremy Duddleston)? It's the only male name in the credits I cannot easily attribute to another character, so I'll just call him Bob. It's hard listing another characteristic of his besides Loves To Fight, since he never utters a single line. While Rob may be Tom's closest friend, Bob is seemingly less significant to Tom, as there's a moment when Tom tosses his book/folder behind himself dismissively, before Bob catches it to carry it for him. But besides that uhhhh. Not a lot with this guy.
It should come to no surprise that Tom is an asshole and a bully. His introduction makes sure the audience knows that when he threatens a class monitor for daring to remind Tom that bells are a thing, before treating his girlfriend Julie with the big ol' triple three of Terrible Boyfriend Qualities: Neglectful, Controlling, and Uncooperative. And this is all before he even sees Ken! But don't worry, his behavior is just as terrible once they do meet.
I may have given Ken shit for his actions, however that does not justify the full extent of Tom's vigilance in making sure he gets violently targetted at every corner. While it gets hard to take the high school drama seriously because of how grown everybody looks, thus making their actions more comical than intended, there are times when Ken gets overpowered or made to feel smaller by Tom that could genuinely get you feeling bad for him — call me a softie, but even when Tom has his funny moments, he sure can make the audience feel as miserable as Ken does.
Tumblr media
Tom: It's not about money Kenny. It's about respect.
Tom treats people badly when he doesn't respect them, and this includes a lot of people. In fact, he's consistently shown to be the least respectful towards his girlfriend.
It's undeniable that Tom is a godawful boyfriend to Julie. As you already know, he is infamously possessive and jealous; in addition to saying in her face that he owns her — word-for-word and in public — Mike makes it a point to warn Ken about Julie because of Tom specifically. The warning is justified too, because we know Tom spends the rest of the movie utterly despising Ken for "encroaching" on his "territory" (literally just talking to Julie). In addition to all this, Tom ignores plans he has with Julie because of his own minor reasons, and even forgets to talk to her for weeks, and yet has the gall to insist Julie must compromise and listen to his desires when she has an iota of a backbone.
Tom's behavior runs deeper than being an asshole, though. Because of him, I can confidently categorize their unhealthy relationship as being abusive, without exaggeration. The extreme control he expects to exert over Julie, her actions, and whom she interacts with taints every interaction they have together. Julie does what she can to assert herself, but it's difficult for those times to feel cathartic when Tom looks like he wants to beat or bully her into submission afterwards. Tom contantly uses his natural height against her, looming over Julie like he could intimidate her into listening, and even grabs her if he feels like it. If his treatment towards Ken is tough, it's nothing compared to how Tom abuses Julie.
Tumblr media
Tom: I don't want you to ever talk to [Ken] again. In fact, if I catch you hanging around him, I'm gonna beat the– Julie: You can't control my life! Tom: Yes I can. You are my girl, and you'll do exactly what I say.
Besides feeling entitled to Julie as a possession than as an equal, Tom's mistreatment hits its peak when, after he approaches her like she didn't dump him the last time they spoke, Tom's rage overpowers him when Julie says Ken could beat him in a fight — Tom grabs Julie by her hair, calls her a slut, commands her to stay away from Ken, and slaps Julie. In the middle of campus. Ken soon comes to defend her, so it's not clear how far Tom would have gone to hurt Julie. However, several characters (including Julie) note Tom's worsening mental state since the their first interaction on-screen, which had been worsening before the events of the movie, and it's not impossible to imagine him sinking even worse towards Julie — in addition to the emotional abuse Tom was already subjecting her to.
While Julie ultimately finds the courage within herself to ends things with Tom, it wasn't without any conflicts, internal and otherwise — not only was Tom in denial, but Julie had her own reasons to stay with him. When Ken asks her why, she gives an explanation, and had given more:
Tumblr media
Julie: It's just that I've been dating Tom for a long time, and... I just think he's a little confused right now... He kind of got involved with some– Ken: Look, pardon me, I'm not sympathetic where Tom is concerned, okay? Julie: No, I don't expect you to be! It's... Sometimes, I think about calling it off. But it's like I feel trapped... kind of like I have to stay with him for now. Ken: But you don't have to if you don't want to...! Julie: No, I do.
Julie's attitude insisting she has to stay because of a sense of duty towards her abuser is a common experience among many abuse victims, and so are her thoughts of feeling trapped. However, Julie recognizes that Tom's awful behavior is new. That does not excuse the abuse, but it does offer important context to his and Julie's relationship. According to her, they've been together long enough that she knows Tom's normal isn't as violent and controlling as it is now. Julie is hoping Tom reverts back, that she will see him get his sense back, and that she has a good idea who's been influencing Tom.
Tumblr media
Julie: God. I swear, every day you sound more and more like that jerk, Lee. Tom: Listen, Lee's my sensei, don't talk about him that way.
We never see any of these kid's parents, and so they're next to nonexistent, thus Tom's most present role model and parental figure in Showdown is his sensei, Lee.
The respect Tom has for his sensei is only matched by his fear. The movie builds suspense for his reveal by having Tom be insistent in being on time for class, lest he angers Lee, a character the audience at that point could only assume is a little bit of a bad influence. They'd soon be affirmed by that when watching Lee's blaringly evil (re)introduction, giving a lesson that's half drill sargeant, half cult indoctrination. It's unclear for how long Tom has been around him, but it's been enough that it's started to affect his behavior and life in harmful ways. Tom however doesn't see it like that. While Julie makes excuses about him to Ken, Tom doesn't even consider that what Lee does is anything wrong. In fact, he takes pride in having "learned a few tricks" from him, and always defends the man whenever someone (Julie) so much as criticizes him. And of course Tom would, since Lee openly considers him to be his best fighter in the dojo, ruthlessly training him to be the undefeated champion in his illegal fighting ring. Tom is 17, 18 at most, and his involvement in crime is reinforced by the hand Lee has on his life.
Lee may care about Tom deeper than just as teacher-student, even calling him "my boy" during the final fight, but it is a relationship built on ruthlessness, domination, and abuse that easily turns violent the moment Lee is dissatisfied with Tom. He thinks of Tom as the best among his students, but Lee never hesitates to tear him down mentally, nor to physically beat him as punishment, going so far as to threaten Tom's life:
Tumblr media
Lee: What have I told you about weakness? It's disgraceful. And when you disgrace yourself, you disgrace me. You do not have control, you have brought shame upon yourself and my dojo. Humiliation. The pain I give your outside should be nothing compared to the pain you feel inside. We are winners at my dojo. We do not let others control us, ever. If you fail again, you will be lucky if I decide to let you live.
Lee wants Tom to believe that his life is literally at the hands of his sensei, that he deserves any beating (psychological or physical) that Lee delivers because Tom's failure is justification enough, according to himself. He believes so strongly of this dominance over Tom's life that Lee does try to kill him after losing to Ken, in front of a giant crowd of people. He's a madman with full conviction that he could make a teenager his killing machine and murder him afterwards if that kid does not live up to his standards — his boy or not.
Even in the rare moments of tenderness, they're never soft. Lee always performs them in the shadow of violence; if he calls Tom "my boy", it's when Lee commands him to kill Ken. When he cradles Tom's jaw, it's so Lee can strike square in his face. The paternal role Lee has in Tom's life is poisoned with cruelty, and it's corrupted Tom into manifesting the same abuse onto others.
Tom becomes more and more like Lee, an aggressor losing his humanity in his descent towards fighting and crime, because of his sensei's own abusive influence. Lee makes Tom feel powerful, but like a tool to be used and sharpened — and inversely, Lee makes Tom feel powerless even more. And he isn't the only one that makes Tom feel powerless.
Lee and Kate are a team, so they're both invested in the careers of the former's students for the illegal fighting ring. Kate's whole business depends on them, making sure there's an abundant money flow as long as there are good fighters. She, like Lee, has a special interest in Tom — his best fighter.
Kate's mistreatment towards Tom is rather distinct from her partner's. For one, Kate never resorts to threatening his life. She does physically disclipine Tom, but it's with harsh slaps across the face, like a stern mother to her son. What she does threaten in his future in the fighting ring. Considering Tom is completely dedicated to his involvement, certainly encouraged if not groomed by Lee for it like a fighting dog, it's an easy method of controlling Tom. While Kate doesn't entertain the thought of killing him like Lee does, it doesn't make her behavior okay, because it still sends Tom the same message: Kate is the one in control of him, he isn't.
What stands out most about Kate's abuse towards Tom though is that she better manipulates him by other, insidious ways. Kate's age is never specified, but it's clear she's older, more confident, and capable of inflicting certain harm in ways teenagers can't. Kate has no qualms using her sexuality to get what she wants, and that includes preying on teenage boys. With Tom, she doesn't just disclipine him like a mother, but Kate coerces him into a sexual relationship as well. This, in addition to times when she treats him like more of a mother back-to-back, contribute to something truly appalling to watch.
To best explain the scene, here's a video of Kate's introduction, where she pulls Tom aside in the middle of instruction to take him to a dark room alone with her:
Just seconds after Kate hits Tom, she pulls him into a deep kiss, practically forceful. Note how limp Tom's arms and hands are as he's made to kiss her. Later scenes in Showdown depict Tom as more "consensual" in their relationship, but this is notably different in their first moment together on-dcreen. This is not to say that it would have been a healthier relationship if Tom enthusiastically kissed Kate back, but his passiveness as she assaults him only highlights the uneven power dynamics at play — in their first scene introducing their relationship at that.
(Remember when I thought Kate and Julie were the same person? Yeah, Kate stands in the back the whole time, only getting a little closer to the camera but not enough that it would distinguish her as someone new. In addition to them shrouded in darkness and the intimacy on-screen after, that's why I thought Julie was secretly evil and was abusive to Tom back. I became so quickly convinced that they were Evil4Evil, that it took me until several scenes later to realize that they were two different people and that something worse was going on.)
What concerns me as well is how easily Kate was able to pull Tom away from sparring, without much of a second glance from Lee or his students. How much did the other students question whenever she pulled him aside alone? Were they allowed to question? Or even worse, how much were they led to believe it was okay? Is Kate coercing more several teenagers, or is this a way to have more power over Tom to ensure he'd stay her and Lee's cash cow?
Powerlessness defines Tom's most prominent relationships with the two adults with abusive control of his life. With that in mind, it explains why Tom has gotten worse, lashing out and losing control of himself. It doesn't excuse his wrongdoings, but there is a direct, blatant connection to Tom's worsening mental health and the authority figures around him either encouraging his violent attitude or are the main causes of distress in Tom's life.
In addition to that, Tom's bullying and abusive behavior is an unfortunate expression of what he's internalized from Lee and Kate; he only treats a person well if he respects them. Due to Lee's influence, that simply means if they have power. Otherwise, Tom feels he can intimidate, belittle, and hurt them all he wants. In Julie's case, Tom mirrors the same mistreatment that plagues him and causes him to treat her badly, because Tom views Julie something he owns. Tom ultimately believes that he is allowed to abuse those that are less powerful, because those that are more powerful than Tom are allowed to abuse him.
The most alarming thing about Tom's sexual abuse is that... Showdown seems to be unaware of its gravity? Female-on-male sexual abuse and uneven power dynamics aren't often treated with the same severity as the opposite, if it is portrayed. Like I said, the later scenes with Tom and Kate show him receptive to her attraction. But even if Tom played along, Kate would have always had an uneven power dynamic over him. In the end, Kate never receives punishment for her abuse — she's presumably arrested for her involvement running the illegal fighting ring, but Kate's strongly implied sexual relationship is a total nonissue by the time the credits roll.
This is the same with Lee's own physical and psychological abusive behavior. He gets arrested for running the illegal fighting ring, and I suppose Tom could press charges afterwards, but he's oddly okay by the end of the movie, without any meltdown over losing or being almost killed by his sensei. It's not cathartic at all to see Tom calmly congratulate Ken and Billy in the end, as well as say a nice goodbye to Julie. Seriously? He's still got issues — we're just supposed to believe that Tom reverted back to being a normal kid just like that, without any psychological damage to work though?
And in the end, I suppose we are meant to believe that. Showdown is a stupid movie. Of course they weren't going to dwell on all that with sensitivity and nuance. But what if I wanted Tom to get therapy? I don't think he should date Julie anymore, when she shouldn't have been saddled with the responsibility and burden of having to stay with him. Tom should absolutely have some support system though, alongside professional help to guide Tom in processing how to live his life past Lee and Kate's abuse. I dedicated a whole section on him, dear god!! Why did Showdown do this. I hate this movie.
Conclusion: This movie is a hundred minutes long and none of it was worth it, and yet I keep coming back
Showdown is not a good movie. It's highly entertaining, completely laugh-worthy, and full of little pieces that I keep rotating in my mind to complete the puzzle, but it's held together by shoestring and duct tape. I don't recommend this movie to anybody, not Karate Kid fans, and certainly not cinephiles, except for those who want to have a quick laugh, preferably with friends to mock together — or inversely, want to be driven to madness like me. There are a lot of things I didn't mention about the movie, none of it interesting; Brion James plays the vice principal, they repeat the same song over and over again in the movie, there's a sick ass chase and fight in a theater set (because Lee hired hitmen to kill Billy at the school, remember), and so much more.
The Blu-ray Special Edition disk is like under $30, basically half off during the holidays, and contains a "Making Of..." documentary, alongside supplementary videos of the fight featurette and interviewed of various people from the cast and crew (including the director Robert Radler and Billy Blanks)! I need it.
Don't watch the movie. But if you do, tell me about it

watching deadly class and god damn thats an identical white boy. just like the other ones. this one gets beaten to a bloody mess more often though. and Saya's name is really god damn close to mine and one time someone pronounced it a bit weird and i got a bit surprised.
tbh im on ep 7 and im kinda losing interest in the plot. ill watch for the bloody dudes though. but this series is definetly not helping me with my temptation for smoking.
yeah im ten minutes into this episode and its really fucking boring. i mean like the villains hot and all but i like do not care for these people enough for this. im just honestly waiting until eveyone gets all bloody again. tbh i was readying myself for boring teen shit cuz of stuff ive seen from the fandom, but i guess i was preparing for the wrong kind of boring lol. i mean uhh marco?? what the fucks even the main guys name lmaooo. im really hoping he dies in a bloody mess cuz the breed of white guy he is looks really good when literally on the brink of death and covered in blood.
anyways yeah im giving up at uhh 27:16 of episode seven. and spoilers sorry but so im watching this on some website for free and i think episode 5 was somehow cut short, because i did not see like chico dying. like any of that scene. i just had to piece everything together from the "previously on deadly class" half minute of episode 6. it doesnt really matter anyways but its kinda funny. also in the pilot when marco tried to kill himself im pretty sure i thought "do it you pussy" and i laughed about that for a solid minute. and at another point i think it was something,, basically just an intrusive thought came related to the scene i was watching, and i laughed about that as well for some time because it was like a horrible thing to think if i actually meant it. shame i dont remember it cuz i bet it was real funny. oh and i was also thinking about the like villain dude, chester i think? i was thinking whether or not the burn scar was prosthetic and im gonna look it up now.
aw man it is prosthethic. idk what i was hoping for tbh, i was just thinking that itd probably be easier to just get an actor that has a burn scar than do all that make up, espec since all the flash backs back to when he doesnt have them are animated, so you wouldnt have like that problem either.
but hey, at least now i know the vibe and basic premise of this show so i can read any fics i happen to stumble upon. that is literally like, top 5 reasons im watching all this shit: so i can read more fics and make sure that im not missing out on shit. thats why i thought this was gonna a be a bit more of a light show, cuz all the fandom shit seemed to be just teens, but its not like im that surprised that teenagers are writing fics about mentally ill trained killers like come on. thats like peak YA shit. also i kinda disliked marco at the beginning cuz he was talking a bit too harshly about "the scizos", but then he had that communist awakening and i kinda like him now. oh and you can call me a snowflake all you want but the word " the r word gets thrown around a bit too lightly for my taste. not rape, the other one.
oh actually i think the intrusive thought i had was something about viktor being gay or something. like way before marco said it. and im really trying to stop calling people gay for looking a bit too hard at someone. or maybe it wasnt that cuz i think viktor was saying some shit about sucking dick and if thats true then i had the full right to call his ass gay in my thoughts.
and before i go,, i fucking love billy. lord knows if i was in that school i would be so fucking whipped for that boy like oh my god. id def be a rat too. and im gonna stop here before i create a deadly class self-insert oc in my head cuz i really dont like this series that much. but billy is so fucking, uhhhh,,,,, well i was gonna say hot cuz thats like the word i use for attractive people usually, but i honestly wouldnt really call him hot.....ummm i mean id say cute if it didnt sound so patronising and infantalising......okay whatever he's attractive and honestly id call him hot if i even got eye contact form him back so...no actually i think just being in his vicinity would be enough....yeah my standards are like so low to the ground, you could manipulate me so fucking easily cuz my nerves would be too shot out the whole time to even register anything. and afterwards id be thinking "no im so aware of myself id know if i was being manipulated". also i already dont trust myself so you could gaslight me real easy as well. i mean id probably kill you if you went too hard with it cuz sometimes i get a bit in my head when frustrated, but honestly my weak ass would be brought down with the promise of like,, a hug. i am really fucking starved of attention and tenderness and literally everything that parents are supposed to give you and i dont have the strength to be in denial about that. i literally started crying when my sister shared an experience with me that i fully related to.
LMAO WHAT THE FUCK DID THIS POST TURN INTO IM SORRY ITS LITERALLY 5:05AM AND WATCHING MOVIES AND SHIT ALWAYS PUTS ME IN A MOOD. well,, i was gonna tag this as "i experienced media" but after this fucking text wall of rambling on i dont think it fits that anymore.

MAY 27
shit where to i start yesterday i meet up with junior my i wanna say first high school boyfriend that i had. and bruh i got high not super high but still high enough to feel it and we ended up having sex he wasnt playing when he said he was gonna be rough like it was alright we went at it for a good amount till i started bleeding and we stopped. but it was alright he did like over hyped how good and how “big” his dick was, honnestly Alan (joels friend) has been the biggest one of all of 12 guys ive had sex with and even then he still wasnt good enough to have me satified so to my concluion dick size doent play a factor in me being able to finally experiance an organism, so far the only guy so has even gotten me hella close to one was luis and he wasnt even fucking me he was just fingering me, if i wasnt so scared to let lose and really let myself have it im pretty sure i wouldve been able to expenaice an orgams all on my own many times by now with just masterbating, but my fear of not having control of my body is what ruins things for me, maybe thats also why when i get high i havent been able to enjoy it like i see people do in movies or videos because im just now calm or enjoying it, i stay trying to fight it , fighting to gain control. anyways the sex was alright i had better, but i not gonna tell him that. being high help at least not focus much on if i like it or not it acttually help me to just enjoy it, and not over think it, next time when i go back im not gonna smoke to see how the sex really is, with me being aware and conncuisse i might drink just so i dont be all shy and shit cause the weed also help with that it helped me be a little more open, also th fact that junior was actually making converation with me and asking me things. we were both high anyways so being quite really didnt matter cause we would both doze off like its the next day so bacally its been 24 hrs now and im barely feeling normal again so for the high to completely ware off and be out of my system its takes more then 24 hrs, while sully over was telling me how in an hr it was gonna ware off, speacking about sully, her and this whole “wedding” of hers is just unbelivebale my mom says shes once again just trying to make me jealous or something like that but like if that was true it isnt working cause shes not even in love everthing was planned like nothing was a surprice, like those are the best things about getting enganged and getting married shes litterly only geting married because she doesnt wanna be alone, cause shes tired of fucking with dudes that in her words shes tired of being a dumbass and giving assholes a chance but its no ones fault but hers not being easy and having guys not  respect her i stay telling her she needs to stop fucking guys who clealry are only trying to get in her pants marrige shouldnt be a just cause things especially if getting married at a church in front of god, marrgie should be with someone you truly love and see your life with them forever , not just because your tired of “assholes” like its as simple as just staying single and waiting on the right guy to come along who isnt gonna ask for sex right away, like for me once a guy askes for sex right away i dont take them sereious, if i want to ill still have se with them and they could possibale be able to win me over if they want something serious with me but that doesnt mean that ima give in super easy with just the first lovey doevy thing they do but idk its hard to explain my way of thinking.

Burning Things with Genshin Impact Characters
Summary - Burning things together, escaping burning buildings, and raiding Hilichurl camps <3 Ahh, the epitome of love.
Pairings - Chaotic Reader x Albedo / Venti / Ayaka / Scaramouche
Warnings - Mentions of fire, alcohol, suggestive themes, and uhm- ✨ c h a o s ✨
A/N - Bro- this is just my mental break after writing 6.9k of smut in my last post ;-; And my next two posts are supposed to be for Genshin women and their smut so… I need some cute fluff before I get into that.
Albedo
“Y/n… calm down.”
Urgent eyes darting over the vicinity of your apartment, you hardly spared the light haired boy a glance. “‘Calm down?’” You asked incredulously, flapping your arms around as if that would solve the issue of smolk. “I’m not sure if you’ve noticed yet, but our house is ‘burning.’” The bits of ash stung your arms, smoke seething against your eyes.
“I’m aware, I’m just asking you to get off the windowsill.”
Looking down at your already prepped foot right on the metal of the only opening the room, you flashed him a glare. “Uhm… no? I’ll have you know I have things to do and places to be, I’m a very important-”
“‘Y/n,’” Albedo interrupted, exasperated. “Please, come here.”
“No!” You shot back, “‘You’ come here, you aren’t going down in flames with your lab experiment. No matter how important it was.”
You could slowly see the patience from Albedo’s face melt away. An incredible feat, it was far too bad you didnt have the time to admire his ticked off face. “And you plan to jump off and break a couple bones?
“Better than death by fire.”
This time, the alchemist simply pointed to the experiment table, unable to form words.
“Yes and? I already know you messed up your experiment.”
“And,” he continued, irritated. “The table is the only ‘damn’ thing on fire. ‘The only thing on fire.’ The entirety of the house is just ‘dandy.’ Now help me put it out.”
You removed your foot of the ledge. “Oh, now that you mention it…”
Albedo put a hand to his head, sigh escaping as he rubbed his temples. “You’re almost worse than Klee… no, scratch that. You’re worse. Klee wouldn't have run away, she has the decency to stick around and out the fire out.”
“I thought it as a life threatening situation!”
“Mhm,” he hummed, displeased. “Whatever you say, get over here.”
Venti
Your drunk figure stumbled across the plain of grass, arms outstretched as you spun around. The wind rushed past your face, cool against the heat that ran through your veins. You felt dizzy, the world spinning in circles around you.
“Hey!” You spun around, foot sliding around the grass as you struggled to keep yourself from falling back. “You- you over there.”
“Yes?” The bard spoke, whisking the alcohol bottle in his hand in circles. He too had chugged a few too many bottles, but nothing to get him as wasted as you were at the moment. “And I do have a name you know- I’m aware you’re drunk, but it still hurts to know you’ve forgotten it~”
Squinting your eyes, you racked your mind for a name. “Oh.. uh…” It took only a moment till the name flashed in your name, and with a giggle, you turned back around. “Venti!”
“Yes?” He responded, this time with a wide grin.
All that stretched in front of the two of you was a wide field of grass, a grand tree, and a hilichurl camp. The two of you were too far away to quickly make it to the tree, and far enough not to arouse any suspicion with the monsters.
Of course your focus was on the hilichurl encampment.
“Look!” You pointed to the wooden pillars perched upright, two or three hilichurls dancing around a fire. “Lets destroy it!”
Venti nearly choked on the beverage in his mouth, swallowing it before he let out a chuckle. “Destroy it?” he repeated bemused, staring at your knocked up state. “I’d be surprised if you managed to make your way there-”
As if to prove him wrong, you started sprinting.
“Uh oh- hey! That wasnt what I meant!!” And he was sent racing after you.
By the time you made it to the camp, the Hilichurls had taken notice of you. All three of them standing up with some kind of weapon in hand. Your joyous laugh sent shivers down their spine, wobbly walk making them back up.
You were ‘scaring’ them.
“C’mere,” you cooed, arms wide. “I don’t bite.”
“Yes you do,” Venti mumbled once catching up to you. Too low for your ears to catch.
When the hilichurls didnt move, you whirled around to grab the vodka from his hand. A high percentage of course, Venti couldnt get drunk on normal wine or too low of a vodka. With a squeak of surprise, he reached for the bottle.
But it was too late.
You’d throw the bottle right at the hilichurls, who dashed away right at that moment. They abandoned camp and sprinted towards the meadow to find some refuge in the trees.
But that wasnt the end of the chaos.
Oh no, the bottle just ‘had’ to spill its contents onto the grass. And well, knock over a torch light stand while it was at it, which meant what? Fire.
“Its burning!”
“Oh dear…”
Venti pulled you away from the camp, sending a gust of wind to pick up the remainder of whatever was burning and put it out. “What am I gonna do with you…” he whispered in a groan. You happily skipped alongside him, giggling at his remark. “My little menace.”
He made a mental note not to bring you to the tavern again.
Side note - No Hilichurls were harmed during the raid-
Ayaka
“‘I’m saving her.”’
Hanging on a tree just beside the Kamisato residency, you and Thoma crouched on a single branch, tipping from side to side to regain balance before falling. That wasn’t the main issue, because just beside you was Ayaka, trapped in a burning building as she frantically tried to put the fire out.
“I’m her bodyguard,” Thoma beside you seethed, pushing you lightly to get you to move. “Therefore its my jobs to protect her, move.”
You shoved back, “And she’s the girl I love, got an issue with that?” You stuck your tongue out, “Or maybe you’re just ‘jealous’, wanna play hero and get her to fall in love? Too bad, you know we’re a thing, get over it.”
“Do you ‘want’ me to hurt you?”
“No thanks, save that for your new girlfriend and your bsdm kinks.”
“HEY- I DONT HAVE-”
But you’d already jumped, grabbing with both hands onto the window ledge and hoisting yourself up. The smoke hit you, burning your eyes and making your nose scrunch up in distaste. If this was your first reaction- how was Ayaka?!
You looked around, spotting the girl trying to put out the fire. It wasnt a big one, in fact it was just the cooking stove and a tinge of the carpet was on actual fire. The rest was just too much smoke, and a coughing Ayaka spilling water over everything.
Racing over, you began stomping on the flames of the carpet. Noticing you, she put her attention on the stove, and the two of you managed to clear away all the fire in no time.
It was when she put her hand over her mouth to cough that you realized you needed to get her out of there. Picking her up with ease, you cradled her in your arms as you dashed to the window. You didnt want to know what the rest of the house, and if there was any more fire, Thoma could put it out right?
Unfortunately for you, that wasnt even your main worry as you made it to the window. Water had somehow made it just below the windowsill, and instead of jumping out with precision, you slipped you with Ayaka in your arms, screaming out in surprise.
So you did all you could do, tuck her in your arms with your back to the ground and hoped you didnt die.
“‘Umph’- holy you’re heavy.”
You weren’t dead but…
‘Being in Thoma’s arms is worse.’
His face said the same, so he dropped you and instead held Ayaka in his arms. You watched as his face morphed into one of worry and compassion, “Princess- are you alright?”
“I was the one who caught her!” You blurted from your position on the ground, stumbling up to stand.
“And I caught both of you,” he corrected, flashing her a grin before giving you a look of distaste. “By accident, it was by pure luck that you happened to be holding onto her.”
You flashed him the middle finger, “Well your jobs done, saved the day, now fuck off.”
“‘You’ fuck off.”
“You have no reason to be here.”
“And leave Ayaka with an incapable fool? How did you slip out of a ‘window?’”
“Water you dumbass, now let go of her before I beat the shit out of you-“
“Ha- I’d like to see you try.”
Meanwhile, Ayaka rest cradled against Thoma’s chest, a look that your bickering was getting to her, and that she was seriously getting ticked off.
“Can you both just ‘shut up?’”
Scaramouche
Everything was ‘burning.’
Scarlet flames licking the wooden planks, crackling as splintered logs came crashing down and silenced by the background screams. Chaos strewn from side to side, a contrast from the normal pace of your footsteps, the calm collected look on your face.
“That was fun,” you simply stated to the boy beside you, squeezing his hand. “We should do it again some other time.”
He squeezed your hand back, a gesture far beyond him. However, he didnt reply, just walking alongside you with your hands interlocked and casually walking away from the crime scene.
Side note - you could really tell I got hit by writers block on the last one ;-;

I Carry Your Heart
Tumblr media
Harry Styles x Reader
Word Count: 4k
{Ahhhh ok so this is my first work like ever. There will definitely be a second part because ive got more to say and it needs a second part. I hope whoever sees and reads this imagine enjoys it. I appreciate comments, likes, reblogs, ideas on what could go into the story, and any form of help and redirection as to how i should write things. Much love, R.}.
Part two
All Y/N wanted tonight was to hang out with her boyfriend, eat a mass amount of junk food, and watch a marvel movie or two. That was all she wanted and that was all she asked of her boyfriend. Instead of any of that happening, she found herself sitting on the nasty kitchen island of her boyfriend's frat at a party that she was trying to avoid going to.
This party was supposedly ‘the party of the year.’ The last rager before finals and then christmas break. Y/N had spent the whole week studying and finishing up end of semester projects hence the want for a chill night. When Harry came to her saying his frat was throwing a party tonight and that he just HAD to be here, Y/N didn't feel like she had a choice but to let him go. She came because she thought this would be the only time she would be able to have some time with Harry after a long week of barely seeing each other. With two vastly different majors, the couple wasnt able to find a lot of time in the middle of school work to make time for just the two of them. Obviously her hopes of quality time with her man were futile because here she was sitting by herself in the kitchen of the frat while Harry drank and got high with his friends in other parts of the house.
Of course she was disappointed. She felt a knot in her throat and a weight on her chest just sitting there in that kitchen. Her white claw was warm now- not that it was any cold when she opened it. She was starting to form a small headache from the too loud music and the ache in her heart was growing.
She stood from the countertop on the search for her boyfriend, hoping he wasn't too far gone from sober. Wiping the back of her jeans from anything that was left on the island, she began walking around the house. She doesn't remember the last time the two of them spent time together by themselves. Of course they occasionally ate dinner together in the dining hall but they were normally surrounded by friends. Y/N wanted to be alone with her boyfriend to talk and bask in his presence.
After pushing through groups of partying humans, she found Harry and at least ten other people sitting around playing some sort of drinking game.
“Y/N! Where have you been?” Luca, one of Harry's frat brothers yelled out to her from the circle. Luca was cool, he was one of the only tolerable boys in this frat aside from Harry. Hearing his girlfriend's name, Harry turned around from where he sat on the ground and reached out for his girlfriend to sit beside him. Much to Y/N’s dismay, Harry was wasted. His eyes were half mass and his words bumped and slurred together. “We are playing truth or dare, wanna play?” Luca asked.
“I don't wanna play but Ill sit and watch.” Sitting next to her boyfriend, she grabbed one of his hands holding it in her lap. She was annoyed at him but it did her no good to show it when he was this drunk.
This game of truth or dare was childish. Dares of licking people's shoes and taking multiple shots had been done and truths about money and relationships were being spilled among the group. It had finally become Harry’s turn to do something, making Y/N tense.
“Ok Harry, I dare you to…” One drunk frat boy started looking around the room trying to come up with something clever. His eyes landed on a pretty girl in the room, Yara, a stuck up girl who for sure got her way no matter what. “I dare you to kiss the hottest girl in the room- obviously not your girlfriend because that defeats the purpose.” The frat boy smirked knowing what his intentions were. Everyone in the group giggles and gasped shocked by the dare but ready to see what was going to go down. Y/N’s brows furrowed as she became angry with the stupid dare.
The ache in her chest seemed to tip over the edge when she felt her boyfriend in the room move to stand up. She grabbed at the bottom of his shirt as a way of stopping him. Harry halted his movements to look down at his girlfriend. He giggled a little.
“You’re not actually going to do this right?” She asked Harry with wide eyes of shock. Harry laughed at her like she made a joke, making her heart hurt even more.”Harry I do not want you to do this just take the shot and lose the dare.” Her tone held warning.
“Don't be silly of course I'm going to. It's just a dare, nothing serious. Don't be so clingy.” He stood walking over to Yara and planted a wet kiss on her mouth. Yara gripped Harry’s shirt and kissed him harder. The kiss went on for a few more seconds, the room absolutely silent out of shock. Harry stepped back from Yara slightly sobering up from his actions. Yara smirked at Y/N, hand gliding down the front of Harry's shirt.
Y/N stood from the seat she was in and scoffed. Scoffed because she should've known Harry would do something like this. Scoffed because it hurt to see her boyfriend do something so careless without any regard for his girl's feelings. She pulled herself together, feeling her throat tighten once again. She was quick to leave the room and down the hall of the frat.
Harry's clumsy steps could be heard from behind her as he mumbled her name. Or at least he tried to. He was still so out of it, his words not making much sense. Y/N was crying now, the strength that she had slowly dissolving as she walked further away from her boyfriend.
“Y/N wait. P-please wait. I cant-” Harry stumbled over his legs behind her falling into the grass of the front yard. The girl couldn't help but turn around looking at her stupid boyfriend. She was choking on sobs now. She wasn't crying over a measly little kiss but over an extreme amount of burnout from school and exhaustion from simply existing. She was crying because her boyfriend ignored her boundaries, crushing and erasing the boundaries she had set in their relationship. Harry tried reaching for her once she had stopped walking. His hand clasped around her wrist, he laid his head down on her shoulder. He hated seeing her cry even if he was too drunk to see why.
“Baby don't leave, Im-Im Sorry.” He hiccuped and burped due to the alcohol. Y/N felt her rage build. Shoving Harry off of her, she crossed her arms across her chest as a way to shield herself from Harry physically. He was hurt by her distance and the wall she put up around her.
“You're an idiot Harry. An idiot!” her sobs grew louder, some stray party goers watching in amusement- some even snapchatting it for shits and giggles. “I didnt want you to kiss her and you did. What provoked you to think that was ok? All I wanted was for us to hang out tonight and just be us and you did this!” She was yelling now. Her hurt is beyond her now. Anger and rage simmered throughout her body making her head dizzy and her fingers curl within themselves. She didnt like being angry. It wasn't an emotion she liked acting on, it felt impersonal.
“Baby I don't under-” Before Harry could finish his sentence he was barfing at his feet. Y/N stepped back disgusted with her boyfriend. She couldn't even feel remorseful because of how angry she was. Luca, the frat brother from earlier, caught up with Harry and his girl only to find Harry doubled over heaving. Luca wrapped his arms around Harry's shoulders.
“I'm sorry Luca but I can't do this tonight. Can you please make sure he gets some water and goes to bed. I-I can't do it tonight, I wish I could but I can't.” Y/N didn't want to leave her boyfriend in this state but she didn't deserve this. She wasn't going to care for her drunk boyfriend when all she wanted to do was care for herself. Selfishly, she enjoyed seeing him this way because of the anger he caused her.
Luca shook his head in understandment. “Of course, I'm really sorry for tonight. He's going to seriously regret this in the morning, especially since it will be circulating all over snapchat in the morning.” Luca waved to Y/N then proceeded to pull Harry into the house. Harry called out for Y/N not wanting to be away from her but Luca pulled him harder.
Harry woke up the next morning feeling like the bottom of a dumpster. He wasn't shocked by that. He knew he got trashed last night, he had planned to. He, just like Y/N, spent all week studying and completing projects while also fulfilling certain responsibilities for his frat. He wanted one night to be a normal teen. So he drank and drank and drank and maybe even smoked some weed. As he tried to recall last night's events he came up with nothing. He didn't understand why Y/N wasn't here with him like she normally would after a party on the weekend. They were normally always together during the weekend. A bad feeling loomed over him. He could tell something wasn't right but decided to put his feelings to the side.
He saw a bottle of water beside his bed making him think she was probably here and left early. Chugging the water he started to go through his socials to see if anyone had posted about the party. He had multiple tagged pics and videos in his notifications from snapchat. Way more than he normally would.
The first video he saw was a video of him and Y/N standing in the front yard of the frat house. Turning the volume all the way up he could hear Y/N yelling, it shocked him. She doesn't normally raise her voice, especially not at him. The angle changed showing her face which was red with anger, eyes filled with unshed tears. He could hear her yelling about him kissing someone else. He felt his heart stop. He had kissed someone else? On the next snap was a picture of him keeled over vomiting on his shoes with the caption saying, ‘are yall seeing this shit?’ Harry was embarrassed but he was more concerned than anything.
His head was hurting but it didn't stop him from rolling out of bed, washing up, and putting on a fresh set of clothes. He checked his phone hoping Y/N had messaged him but nothing was there. He walked into the kitchen only to see luca sitting at the counter eating cereal.
“Hey Harry….” Luca said warily. Luca pushed the cereal around his bowl feeling the tension begin to rise in the room. He felt horrible about his friends.
“Luca...what's up?” Harry was confused by Lucas' wariness.
“So do you remember anything about last night?” Luca asked, setting his cereal down in the sink behind him. Harry started playing with the frayed edges of a bracelet Y/N made for him. It had little beads with her name on it. They made them together at an event on campus.
“I don't, I only saw the videos of Y/N screaming at me. I think I fucked up but I- I don't know what happened.” Harry's cheek flushed with even more embarrassment. Luca awkwardly chuckled scratching the back of his neck.
“You got dared to kiss the hottest girl in the room and um actually did it in front of Y/N...even though she didn't want you to. Which led you guys outside and yeah you know the rest...Im sorry dude, I wish I had stopped you.”
“Who- who did I kiss?” Harrys stomach lurched when he heard Yara’s name come out of Lucas' name. Y/N didn't like Yara and it was understandable. Yara has been pining after Harry since their first year of college. Harry couldn't breathe. He felt disgusted with himself. He could only imagine how Y/N was feeling.
Y/N woke up the same morning, eyes puffy and crusty from tears and head hurting. She probably cried herself into dehydration. She was lucky enough to have no roommate because she wouldn't have wanted someone else to see her breakdown. She still couldn't believe last night went down the way it went down. She couldn't tell if she was just being overdramatic or if her emotions were in the right place. She didn't want to be mad at Harry. He was everything to her, she had an odd connection to him. Meeting him during their freshman welcome week they quickly became best friends with a growing romantic connection in the mix. They started dating before Christmas break. They had grown close so fast that he even came home with her to meet her family for the first few days of break.  Even though they were in their junior year of college, Y/N could see them beyond college. She's imagined them getting married, travelling, sharing a home. She saw the whole future with him. She had her doubts though. He was immature just like every other boy in college. He was dumb with his actions and tended to only do things if they benefited him. He had a lot of growing to do as a person, so did she but she wanted to grow with him.
She heard a knock on her door hesitating to answer it because one, it could be Harry, and two, she looked like a wreck. Answering anyways, she was met with a very sorry looking Harry holding a small coffee and bagel from their cafe.
“Hi baby…” He sheepishly said holding out the items. She silently let him through the door not once looking him in the eye. He stepped into her room, setting her treats on her desk. He could see that her bed was messy meaning she recently woke up. Y/N never went about her day without making her bed. He turned back to her and finally their eyes met. He took in all of her facial features, from her puffy eyes, to her downturned lips that looked chapped, to her flushed cheeks that longed to be held for warmth. He hated to see her like this, the last time he saw her so upset was when her parents moved out of her childhood home. It took alot to make Y/N this upset. She was normally really headstrong and vigilant. She knew how to ease her way out of problematic situations and could talk her way through anything.
Harry opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by Y/N holding her hand up in front of his face. “Don't talk. I'm really hurt Harry, so if your plan was to come over here and apologize over bagels- think again.” She snapped, backing up to put space between the two of them. She sat down on her bed while Harry pulled the desk chair out and sat down. He much preferred to be on the bed with her holding her tight but he didn't want to overstep boundaries.
“Love, I don't know where to begin. I'm really sorry for what happened last night. I was really drunk and obviously wasn't in the right headspace.” Harry reached out and touched the tips of her fingers with his. She wanted to move but it felt good to be touched by Harry.
“I told you that a measly little apology won't do Harry. I didn't want you to kiss Yara and you did anyway. You know how Yara feels about you and you just let it happen!” She pulled her hand away remembering the prior night's events. Harry felt himself getting angry too. He felt like he needed to defend himself- even though it would be a very bad idea.
“I think you're being over dramatic.” Wrong move Harry. “It wasn't like I was making out with her!”
“You're joking right?” She scoffed and scooted further up her bed to create more distance. “Harry it's the simple fact that you did something that made me uncomfortable that shouldn't have even happened. I see myself getting married to you and it makes me worry that right now in our relationship you can't respect my boundaries!” She yelled. Harry’s eyes widened as he laughed sarcastically.
“Married? What the fuck are you on about? I'm a junior in college. In what world would it make sense for me to be prepping a relationship for marriage? Once again I think you're being over dramatic.” Her eyes watered hearing Harry's statement.
“I- I guess I'm the only one in this relationship thinking about the future? I thought we were on the same page. I'm not planning our marriage now, obviously. I'm thinking about how elements of our relationship now could play out in the future when we do want to get married. You cheated on me last night. I went to a party you begged ME to go to only to be there for you. I wanted to be here cuddling with you, pigging out on fast food but I was at a party with you and got cheated on!” Her volume rises once again, making Harry shove his chair from underneath him when he stands up.
“You're doing too much right now. I'm not planning a future right now because I don't want this future! I want to be myself without thinking about how to appease my girlfriend. I invited you to the party so you could lighten the fuck up. I love you, I do, but I'm not thinking of marriage and futures. I'm thinking about my life right now and having fun.” Harry snapped right back at her. Her chin wobbled. Obviously her and Harry were on different pages. It hurt so much to hear him say that he didn't want a future with her. Harry didn't mean it though.
“Ok, well I guess that's my fault for assuming we were thinking along the same lines. Um, I don't want to hold you back from being yourself so with that being said, you are a free man Harry.” She pushed herself up from her bed walking to the door ready to escort Harry out.
“Huh? Love, what?” Harry was confused on how they got to this point. Just a few days ago they were in love, meeting in the library to share a lunch and exchanging sweet words determined by their love.
“Listen I have a day full of exams tomorrow so if you could just leave that would be best. You don't really want this so I'm letting you go, Harry.” She had tears rolling down her face, falling from her eyes down to her chin where they fell to the ground in droplets. Harry’s eyes welled up watching his love cry before him.
“I don't-”
“Harry, leave, please.” She opened the door making room for him to go through. He walked through the door turning to look at her. She turned her face away from him whispering a small goodbye before shutting the door. Harry was left in the silent hallway, so silent he could hear his thoughts and the tears hitting the tile floor beneath him. He thinks he stood there for at least thirty more minutes before accepting what had happened and walking away.
Leaving Y/N in her room sobbing like she had never done before. Her tears coated her face and she thought her head could explode right then and there. She didn't want to accept what had happened but she had priorities. She composed herself enough to start studying for her exams.
The week rolled by quickly, Monday meeting Friday in a flash. Exams were done and Christmas break was on the horizon. Students were piling off of campus in a hurry ready to get home to their loved ones. People were outside by cars loading up their winter necessaries and saying their goodbyes to their close friends.
Harry cried everyday this week. He wasn't normally a crier. He hated crying, he hated the feeling of crying and the headache that came from it. He cried because he realized how wrong he was. He missed Y/N. He missed finals week dinner together where they tried to get off campus at least once and be alone for a moment. He missed watching her relax while eating food that wasn't from their school's cafeteria. He would pay for their meal just so she could have one less thing to worry about. They would normally get frozen yogurt right after too, Y/N getting as many toppings as she wanted because Harry would be the one paying. He missed her tight after exam hugs. She would squeeze his shoulders tight, smiling into his neck, telling him how proud she was of him. She would bring him tea in the morning when they met for breakfast. Sometimes they would spend the night in one or the others room so they could have time together to destress and just talk.
Y/N wasn't doing any better. She normally went into exam week feeling confident. She studied too hard not to. But this week she felt like shit. Her heart hurt and she kept thinking about the fight. She feels like she overreacted but hearing Harry talk about their lack of a future hurt nonetheless. She really assumed that they did have a future that included marriage and a life together. She didn't understand where his sudden lack of commitment came from. She regretted dumping him but at the same time she wished he did more to get them back together but he was silent. He hasn't contacted her at all and avoided all of their spots on campus all together.
She stood by her car prepping for her six hours car ride back home. Packing away her clothes and some essentials in the trunk of her car, she heard light footsteps behind her. Closing her trunk she turned to see Harry standing with his hands in his pockets.
“Hi.” He said. She looked at him, putting her own hands in her pockets. It was cold outside, the nippy air hinting at a possibility of snow.
“Hi Harry.” They shared a moment of silence together. Just staring at each other. It felt good to be near each other again. They felt like they could breathe again.
“I had to see you before you left. I know the break is only a month but I didn't want to leave without seeing you.” He replied quietly. She made him feel so shy. Her beauty always made him awestruck. Even in a hoodie with their college's logo and some large sweatpants and some fuzzy crocs, she was the most beautiful thing he's ever seen.
“I don't know what to say harry.”
“It's ok. I don't deserve anything from you after what I said. I just wanted to apologize and wish you a good break before you left. I also wanted to give you this.” He pulled a small box and envelope out of the front pocket of his backpack. “I know we agreed on no presents but I think thats a dumb rule and I love you too much to not get you something.” She smiled at his words, taking the gift from his hands.
“Thank you Harry, it means a lot to me. So what are your plans for a break?” She asked him, the tension that was in the air slowly dissipating.
“I couldn't get a flight home until next wednesday so i'll stay here on campus until then.” He shrugged.
“Oh ok. Well tell Anne I said hi. I have to go Harry but I'll see you after the break, ok?” She didn't want to leave him but she didn't want to drive through the dark.
“Ok, love. Drive safe. I lov- I mean have a good break.” Her chest tightened at his hesitation. She wants to hear him say the words but she knows he won't.
“Have a good break Harry.” She whispered. Before getting in her car she stood on her toes placing a kiss on the corner of his mouth. Rubbing her thumb across his cheek and turning away and into her car.
She drove away knowing that her heart was left in that parking lot in the hands of someone she loves way too much.
Harry stood in the parking lot watching his heart drive away for winter wanting nothing more than to be with her.

“Okay, okay. What colour am I thinking of now.” Peter squealed, plopping himself down on your bed, staring at you like a kid on christmas.
Being the Avengers personal psychic has its benefits, but this was certainly not one of them. You thought your party-trick of a superpower would have grown old on your friends, and yet it always seemed to draw a crowd of non-believers. You weren't the toughest or the strongest by any means, but you sure knew your way around a person's thoughts, which proved to be an advantage to the team. Mostly you were in charge of recon, but that didn't stop Natasha from dragging you to the gym every weekend and torturing you with super hero level workouts.
“How many more times are we going to do this, Peter?” You sighed, but soon realised he wasnt caving. “Blue. Just like last time it was orange and the time before that thirteen. Can we please stop.”
Peter scanned you over for a moment, before relaxing back on your headboard.
Fine, but only because Mr. Stark said he was ordering Chinese and it's probably here by now. His voice echoed through your mind.
“Actually, I heard Wanda say he’s getting pizza.” You corrected.
“How did you-?” He paused, eyes agape as your words registered. “That is seriously cool, you know that? I mean, I hang from the walls but that- that is cool! I can see why they coined you The Witch now,” Peter playfully shouted. “Can you do that with anyone, at any time?”
You smiled sheepishly, remembering the times your wandering mind had gotten you in some pretty uncomfortable situations. You tried your very best to stay out of your friends heads, but sometimes that was easier said than done. Especially when it came to the former Hydra assassin. His thoughts seemed to creep into your mind, seeping through the cracks unbidden. Sometimes his mind would wander aimlessly, but that wasn't always the case. You knew about Bucky’s dark past, however hearing it in his own cruel words was something else entirely. Though he would never utter the words allowed they were seared into your mind. You had every sense to avoid the man and yet his voice, like gravel and smoke, drew you in, intoxicated on his every word as it clouded around your subconscious.
“Unfortunately” You sighed, easing back into the mattress and unconsciously biting at the corner of your mouth. Your gift didnt make you very popular when you were younger. You were honestly surprised it was so welcomed here. Most people consider you an invasion of privacy...  But Peter was different from the highschool kids you grew up with. Maybe it was due to the fact he was different too, but something about the way his mind wandered made you believe that radio-active spider or not, Peter would always be Peter.
“What does Bucky think about?”
That knocked you out of your thoughts. You snapped your head up and looked at Peter, who only seemed to have a curious look in his eyes.
He’s so broody and mysterious. Guy gives me the creeps.
“Bucky is a sweetheart deep down.” You faked a smile, concerned as to why you felt the need to defend him. From an outside perspective, it was possible to fear the former Winter Soldier. However, knowing what you did haunted your nerves.
“I’m sure very, very deep down.” Peter chuckled. “I’m going to go grab some pizza before Sam eats it all. Are you coming?”
You smiled softly, preparing yourself for the dinner with your friends. Though you enjoyed having a sort of family, dinners together would often grow overwhelming in your mind, voices colliding though your head, brewing into a storm in your thoughts.
“I’ll be down in a few.” With that, Peter stumbled out of your room and down the hallway leaving you with your thoughts. You closed your eyes, concentrating on the many different voices faintly echoing around you. You could only make out bits and pieces as they vibrated through the walls and all around you. At first, it was hard to identify whose voice belonged to who, but soon after you moved into the compound it became easy.
Natasha thought in poems. Her brain was always working on the next solution- the next verse. Her mind wandered in and out of trains of thought like a dancer, drifting back and forth with ease. It was always relaxing listening in.
Tony was constantly listening to his music wherever he went. You had an inkling it was because he knew how powerful you were. ‘Like built-in surveillance,’ he’d often say. Though, you’d never deflate his ego in letting him know you could still hear his thoughts clear as day.
But then there was Bucky. It took you a while to understand his thoughts. They always seemed erratic and chased- never one thought all at once, but it soon became clear why. Bucky was constantly correcting himself. When his mind began to tiptoe into the darkest corners, he’d change the conversation, ushering it back to what he thought was right. Listening to his internal debates became a favourite pastime of yours. He often reminisced about his time in the forties. You liked how easy it was, listening to him think. Though you had never said more than five words to him allowed, you were content with this little part of him. Pieces only you both knew. Like the beautiful woman he would lose himself daydreaming about. The way he described her made you feel flush all over. He never thought her name, and yet it stung all the more knowing his heart was stolen. His beautiful ‘ведьма’. Not that you stood a fighting chance. Not to mention the impending age gape you both shared. Often he would find you staring and a string of curses would follow as he realised he’d be caught. You never meant to intrude, but then again, that wasn't entirely true.
With a huff, you swung your legs off the bed letting your feet hit the cold wooden floors, but before you could even open the door, you heard him. His voice was so loud you almost didn't know if he was speaking aloud or not.
Just do it, you punk. Walk up there and ask her. What’s the worst that could happen?.... She could plunge a knife into your back- no…. She wouldn't do that and you know it. If you ask her, she might say yes… Honestly that might he worse than-
You swing the door open, startling Bucky back a few paces as your eyes might his. Instantly his face blooms with pink as his mind races- his thoughts an incoherent mess.
“Hi Bucky.” You spoke only above a whisper.
“Oh jesus! I didn't know you were right there.” He mumbled, rubbing the back of his neck trying to steady his breathing.
“Sorry…” You mumbled, breaking eye contact and suddenly finding the floor very interesting. “I didn mean to scare you-”
“You don’t- I mean, you didn't scare me.” He chuckled, his mind suddenly blank. “It doesn't matter right now because I, uh… I was wondering if you're coming for dinner.”
You nodded your head, “Yeah, on my way now.” You smiled softly.
“Great,” Bucky grinned, running his hand through his cropped hair and stepping aside. “I can walk with you.”
You nodded, swallowing hard as you swung the door shut and began walking side by side with Bucky in heavy silence.
“Know what’s for dinner?” Bucky finally spoke.
“Pizza. Your favourite.” You affirmed, meeting his curious eyes. His strides slowed until he was at a full stop.
“I never told you that.” He pried, looking at your in question.
You froze, suddenly aware of what you had just said. There was nothing more you wanted than to sink into the floor and let the earth swallow you whole.
“Uh,” You nervously laughed, “You must have at some point. Yeah, I remember now, it was-”
“How often do you listen?” he interrupted, making your mouth clamp shut.
You thought about lying, though it didn't seem right. You knew all his secrets and all he asked was this one. Surely you could grant him that even if it cost a punch to the ego.
“All the time,” You started, your eyes never leaving the floor. “I don’t mean to. At least that’s the way it started. I really try to put you guys all on ‘mute’ when we're together, but your voice always comes through. I don't know what it is, but I like the way you think.” You admitted, feeling heat rising from your chest.
“You like the way I think?” He pried, taking a few steps closer to you. You could feel the tension buzzing around the hallway, ricocheting off the walls and exploding all around you.
“I’m sorry, I’m so embarrassed. It's such an invasion of privacy. You must hate me. I promise I won't tell anyone about the things I hear. Especially her.”
“Her?” He chuckled, taking another step toward you leaving only a few tiles between the two of you.
“Ведьма.” You choked out. “You think about her all the time. She sounds beautiful, by the way. I’m sorry, that's overstepping… I just, I’m sorry. Really I’ll just go-”
Before you could turn on your heel and run for the hills, Bucky's hands were around your wrists, holding you still. His eyes were pleading as he opened he opened and shut his mouth trying to find the right words to say.
“For a witch, you sure aren’t very intuitive.” Bucky signed, your eyes finally landing on his.  “My beautiful witch, don’t know by now?”
You blinked at him, your mouth suddenly dry and words caught in your throat. Before you could speak, his thoughts broke through the air, tumbling around you.
Are you listening, doll? His voice echoed around you sending a shiver down your spine. You nodded your head, watching as his eyes crinkled up as he a lopsided grin formed on his pink lips.
It’s you. It’s always you. I've tried to stop, trust me. I just can’t seem to shake it.
You almost didn't notice the smile that began to pull at the corners of your mouth as you took in his words. They drifted in the air around you, echoing through your mind as Bucky’s thumbs rubbed circles into your skin.
“Ask me.” You spoke up, a sudden confidence serging through your core. Bucky raised a brow, scanning you over until your words resonated with him.
“Right, of course.” He cleared his throat, letting go of your hands and intertwining his own nervously. “Would you ever consider letting me take you out. To dinner, maybe?”
You bit down on your bottom lip to stop yourself from giggling as you listened to his internal monologue of nerves that followed his question.
“Took you long enough.” You chuckled, watching as his smile lit up the room around you. Before you could stop yourself you closed the distance between you, draping your arms around his shoulders and crashing your lips onto his. Bucky froze, but almost as instantly melted into you, his hands finding their home on your hips as he pulled you in. You wanted nothing more than to melt into him but his racing thoughts swirled around you, causing a giggle to fall from your lips.
Holy Shit. Kiss her back, you moron. Oh god she smells so good. What is that? Cinnamon? Citrus? Shit, she's so close to me. Don't panic. Don't panic. Fuck she feels good. Just relax, and- Oh shit. Can you hear me?
You couldn't help but throw your head back, laughter bubbling out of your chest as his thoughts raced through his head.
“I can tell you're going to be a lot of fun, Barnes” You mumbled against his lips.

Bday Imagine hc: pt1
Mammoney's missions
Enjoy.
(YES IT IS TOOK ME LONG SHHH)
mammon doing luci's dirty work.
⚠warning⚠: brief mention of gn!mc, graphic descriptions. (Mammon smokes here because i find it hot and as a fella smoker i like turning characters i love into fellow smokers just because... Its... Hot)
Love and comments are APPRECIATED.
Tumblr media
Today was one of the days where mammon had LOTS of free time. And since he promised mc to work for his money.... He also had more money to spend.
AND thats exactly what he was doing, going from shop to shop buying everything he found cute, sexy, hot, pretty, handsome, shiny, glittery, //golden//. At the same time he was on a call with mc, chattering away with the human about their preferences likes and dislikes.
To a lot of people's surprise most of what mammon was buying was actually to gift mc, greedy as he was he loved getting mc's full attention while they were unwrapping and unfolding his gifts. Sometimes mc would even thank him with a kiss for each article they would receive. So he made sure to buy... Plenty.
He had already switched into his demon form, his tail carrying most of the bags to be able to continue shopping, humming a happy tune listening to whatever mc was blabbering about. This time it was about a game levi and mc played, something about an apocalyptic world where the main character became a demon kind etcetera etcetera, he was absolutely in love with mc, dont get him wrong.... But sometimes he couldnt keep up with what they were saying.
It was around an hour later that his other phone rang, one he rarely heard ringing. Sighing, he apologized to mc, telling them he had to go for now because he was having another call from lucifer.
Reluctantly closing off the call, he walked out of the store, the several dozen of bags swinging around lazily with his tail as he walked to a more desolated area.
He took his other phone calling lucifer back who greeted him with an annoyed groan.
"Mammon." Lucifer tries to interupt.
"Hello to you too big brother, whith me your adorable little bro? Im perfectly fine thanks for asking. Oh? What i was doi-"
"Ng, i was shopping for //MY// human until you decided to call me, so whats up."
"Are you done?" Lucifer asks exasperated.
Mammon humms in response, taking out his pack of cigarettes and lighting one. Taking a long drag of it and exhaling the toxic smoke in front of him. His eyes tracing the swirls of the white smoke mesmerizing him.
He takes a deep breath and starts walking while he waits for lucifer to give him the job he wants him to do.
"Luci? You still there ?" Mammon sing songs, walking through the less crowded streets of devildom, where all the homeless and failures resides.
"Where are you right now?" Lucifer asks and mammon swears he can see Lucifer's gloved hand rub at the old man's temples.
"Im in the slums, to be more precise.. Im in the fails."
The fails was a district of about three kilometers, stretching on the sides of devildom, the fails was a place where criminals, people who got banned, ejected, chased or cursed resided. They werent just poor, and each of them had their own conditions, most criminals lived there too so it wasnt as complicated as one thought it would be to catch a criminal.
"Perfect i needed you there," lucifer starts, hope building in his voice. Mammon humms taking another drag of his cigarette, ignoring the pleading groans, whispers and begging.
"Ther-"
"Speak in another language there are some monsters here with good ears." Mammon cuts lucifer off in latin, eying a werewolf like bunny, it was a weird sight...
Lucifer simply sighs and starts again, this time in demonic. It was a language that grates the ears, scratched the soul, burned the eyes and muted anyone's words. If it wasnt for mammon a ruler and a higher demon he would for sure have become deaf.
From the corner of his eye he could see the wereworlf like bunny curling on themselves whimpers escaping it. Several other animal like monsters having the same reaction.
Exhaling another cloud of smoke mammon listened to lucifer explaining his mission, it wss relatively easy, he had to find a criminal called matchablossom, he murdered two rad students for no apparent reason, and has been spotted in the fails.
Mammon hums, "give me a description."
"He's around 2meters maybe a hybrid spicies, we arent sure. He's been seen with pink and green hair, or fur, we dont know for sure, a witness did say that he saw a scar running down his neck."
"Do i have any restrictions?" Mammon asks throwing the cigarette butt to the ground and stepping on it, his attire changing to a black suit, leather gloves and a white upperface mask covering his eyes and nose. Only his pupils were visible and his mouth. His tail was still carrying all the bags.
"Leave no evidence behind." Is all lucifer says before hanging up.
Mammon tucks his phone away humming to himself, a wide smile stretching on his face, long white fangs growing, replacing his smaller canines.
"I havent had a decent meal in a while." He says smiling, side eyeing the people sitting against the broken down houses.
"Say, little runts, any ideas where a sertain 'matchablossom' is? If any of you do know, there's a reward."
"W-whats the reward... S-sir." A little girl asks, comming from between a little alleyway her dirty brown hair contrasting with her pale blue eyes and light skin.
He smiles, his fangs on full display scaring the little girl.
"One of you will have the chance to escape this place, and live a better life, potentially even be able to go to school and have friends," mammon says crouching down in front of the girl. "Wouldn't you like that? Warm fullfilling meals every, single, day. Hot baths and a warm and cozy bed with fluffy and puffy blankets? Toys and friends around you?, new clothes and people who care for you." The little girls eyes are wide in wonder, her eyes shining.
"But of course, all of that will only depend on wheter you know something or not." He continues and the little girl nods vigorously.
Rukus was starting behind her, people protesting that they wanted the same, that it was unfair, that they deserved a chance too.
His eyes shoot up, the cold glare shutting them up immediately. "First come, first served. You all got your chance..You guys stayed still and quiet in fear of matchablossom, fine, but dont come ruin what a little girl honestly earned."
Silence stretched in the fails, only the wind, whistling between the broken buildings could be heard.
"Good." He says and turns his attention back to the girl.
"Show me the way." He says and stretches his gloved hand out for the little girl to grab, which she does.
She leads the way to the end of the streets before abruptly stopping when she hears a noise as if bones were being snacked on, the crunching and licking noises were probably nauseating to the little girl.
He looks down at her noticing her scared eyes. Casting a zero gravity spell on the bags he gives it to the little girl.
"Hold on to this and stay here, ill be right back. And if someone bothers you, say that the grand mammon will send them to hell and let some of the baby crows feed on their organs." The little girl nods, fear still very much present in her eyes at being left alone in such a dangerous part of the fails.
He gently ruffles her hair and walks away, his footsteps light, the noise of cracking bones not stopping.
She was so scared.

laying low
pairing: fennec shand / reader
word count: 3019
summary: she didn’t want you to retire because you were the only one she trusts to have her six. you retired because you couldn’t let yourself fail and get her killed.
a/n: i want her to step on me but also i wanna be the one (1) person the stoic badass is soft for. also i’m posting from mobile again so ✨hooray✨
warnings: angry fennec, parting on maybe-bad terms, canon typical violence, being kidnapped, toro calican himself is a warning (undid his death for the sake of plot)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“is this really what you want? to sit here and let yourself rot?” fennec was bitter. you hated seeing her like this and nearly every muscle in your body ached as she spoke. the two of you worked together like a finely-tuned machine and she clearly thought that you retiring was a waste of potential. but when you slipped up and nearly cost fennec her life, you refused to endanger her with your presence. she was far too valuable to you and you would do anything, even retire in this skughole, if it meant keeping her safe.
after a speeder crash you endured during a fight against stormtroopers, it severely impacted your ability to fight. fennec knew that you wouldn’t be the same, but that didn’t bother her. there were only one or two more bounties picked up afterwards because you realized you had become a liability. fennec was having to cover your ass more often than not and even though she insisted that it wasn’t a problem, you had to do something different.
picking up a little slack would be miniscule if you were with her but you didn’t see it like she did. you had been her longest companion and the only one that she’d ever let see her weak. life came with trauma, and with trauma came nightmares — she remembers the first one she had early into your partnership, the way you held her close and anchored her to reality. from then on it was decided: you were it for her. not that she’d ever tell you, but it was true nonetheless.
you sighed at her words; the very same thoughts went through your head at the beginning of this plan but it was the only viable option for you. “it’s all i have left. maybe i can find some peace before hunters come looking for me.” you pour two mugs of caf, setting one on the table in font of an empty chair as an invitation for her to sit. she doesn’t.
the anger in the air around her nearly chokes you with its intensity, rising in the air like heavy plumes of smoke from a raging fire. you’re unsure what you can say to tame the blaze, if you even can at all. normally you would know the exact words to say to bring her down when she’s this upset, but now you were the root of the problem and there was nothing short of foregoing retirement that would make her happy.
fennec continues talking about the brave fighter she fought alongside turning into someone she didn’t know, how you’re showing your belly to the world like the damn tooka sunbathing in the windowsill. the venom she’s spitting doesn’t bother you. she’s angry and hurt, probably feeling abandoned by you and your decision to stay and make a home.
“if you ever need somewhere to lay low, i’ll always welcome you. we’re partners fennec, whether fighting side by side or not.” you wanted to give her that much. even if she wasn’t ready now, you would always welcome her into your new home, into your arms the way you’ve yearned to for years.
nothing is said to acknowledge your words. you didn’t think she would say anything anyway but it hurts regardless, another reminder that she doesn’t like this the same way you don’t. all she does before leaving you is grabbing the mug from the table and pouring its contents down the drain, letting the mug clatter in the sink once it’s empty.
maybe one day she could see that you were doing this for her. maybe one day, probably long away from now, she would walk into these doors with the weight of the galaxy being dropped on your doorstep. with a soft smile and open arms you would greet her and show her what it was like to live the quiet life.
for now, you would just have to settle for the warm embrace of the memories you shared, hoping that more could be made in your new little hut.
Tumblr media
it’s been close to six months since you retired. you hadn’t seen or heard fennec since she walked out of your front door wearing her signature scowl. it still stung, after all this time, that after everything she wouldn’t even comm. you’d tried that the first couple weeks after she left but there was never a reply, only a dwindling hope and the worry of not knowing if she was okay.
that was one of the biggest benefits of traveling with fennec; you would never have to worry where she was because she was always right beside you. there was never a nagging worry that ate at you, no nightmares allowed to linger since her touch would ward them away. life without her was a new normal
there would be days where you would see something and want to tell her about it, throwing her name over your shoulder only to remember that she was never there to hear what you had to say. the comms you sent grew further apart as time went on, eventually stopping altogether. she would never reply anyway, there was no reason to waste both your time and yours on something seemingly broken beyond repair.
she may not have been dead, but you still lost her.
several more weeks went by and you had grown accustomed to the solitude. sure you would socialize when going to the market for food and supplies, but it was never anything of substance, only mere pleasantries and remarks on the quality of the items you bought. somehow you were far more weary during retirement than you had been before it.
your mind would drift to her still, wondering whether she had found someone else to watch her back or if she was vagabonding all by her lonesome. how you yearned to see her again, hear her voice or feel her hands gently help you when you fall like you have lately. it’s like your body doesn’t see the reason to keep up. you exercise to the best of your ability and try to stay fit as possible, but you’re still losing your footing more and more often, even at home.
it comes to a head when you’re making breakfast. everything had been okay prior, but one little nudge of your bad leg against a table corner and you’re sprawling. laying on the floor covered in your breakfast, it takes you thirty minutes to muster the strength needed to stand on your own.
the next day, you get a cane. you loathe having to buy it at all, hearing her voice calling you old and jokingly asking where your grandchildren are. it’s either a cane or losing what little mobility you have left, so you go with the former. you despised the visible display of your weakness, grated on what pride you had left. if fennec could see you now, what would she say?
Tumblr media
the man had beat his way into your home with every intention to rob you and take what little supplies you had. he had been traveling for days in the desert and was tired. but then he saw exactly whose house he was robbing and he had an even better idea: take you to what used to be jabba’s palace, now ruled by bib fortuna.
see, the paths you used to tread alongside fennec provided ample opportunities to make an enemy here and there. jabba was one of them simply because you refused to work for him, and with his death, you had a little bit of peace. fortuna never attempted to seek you out but anyone who knew of jabba’s grudge against you would be wise to the reward your capture would produce.
this young hotshot was foolhardy and far too cocksure compared to his abilities. if you were in the body you used to have, this buffoon (who made his name very known to you in some sort of dominance attempt?) would be dead thrice over. but time wasnt kind to you and you still have a near-lame leg, so at his mercy you were.
you just wished he would shut his damn mouth for longer than it took him to suck in another breath. he must not realize that silence is far louder than jabbering when it comes to someone holding your life in their hands. maker forbid you have peace in your final moments, apparently. figures.
jabba’s former palace was soon in your line of sight and if you weren’t positive that you were being led to your death, you’d have been grateful to be freed of the nuisance that was toro calican. all the assurance you could find as he hauled you out of his speeder was that his arrogance would soon get him killed if he continued the way he was going.
toro dragged you to the throne room with a hand roughly dripping your bicep, trying to hurry you along as if you still had two normally functioning legs. you knew he knew about your predicament, your lack of fully independent mobility a frequent topic of his. “ease up, wank stain! you know i have a lame leg!” his answer was an aggravated huff and his blaster pressed harder into your lower back.
the lower you descended, the deeper the dread sank into your gut. this was actually real, you were about to die. peace had been made long ago with the knowledge of someone possibly wanting to find you, but now that it was happening… completely different.
you wondered if fennec would ever find out about your death. or if she did find out, your brain would questioned if she would even care. of course she would, your heart consoled, think of how long you traveled together! the trust! the bond you two share transcends time!
but you cut your journeys with her short, there was no telling. there were so many things you wish you could have told her, not just about the feelings that only grew in their intensity during her absence from your side. you wanted to tell her about the stray tooka that you took in when you first settled down; she had a litter of kittens and one of them had a glare that rivaled your dear assassin’s. there was an action holonovel you read once that had you cackling, imagining your fennec cutting off all the frivolous villain monologues with a blaster to the face.
she was never told these things and now that you were becoming rancor chow, she’d never even know them. the idea of dying before telling fennec everything that you’ve been stewing over for so long, not telling her you loved her, fuck was it heartbreaking.
a mumbled curse fell from your lips when you felt saltwater make a descent down your cheeks. you didn’t want your harbinger to see you this weak, this vulnerable, but you had no choice in the matter. your hands are bound by a pair of shockingly sturdy binders and there was no way for you to wipe the tears away. all you could do was blink them away, then meet death with your chin up and your love in your heart.
“now what do we have here?” that was most certainly not the voice of bib fortuna. you opened your eyes to find a broad man clad in green beskar occupying the throne. your common sense identified him as boba fett, which you should have thought was impossible. then again, you didn’t think it was possible for someone to be as annoying as toro calican. it was a day of being proved wrong, it seemed.
anyone could see that toro wasn’t prepared to see someone that wasn’t bib on the throne. his eyes had grown to the size of the twin suns and even through your wet eyes, you could see his facial expression morph from his fake swagger to a dog of uncertainty. nevertheless, he persisted, throwing you down at the foot of the throne. “there’s a bounty on their head and i’ve come to collect the reward.”
boba fett, even through the beskar, doesn’t seem pleased. he doesn’t move his helmet’s line of sight from toro as he speaks, something you’re grateful for. “there’s been a, how do you say, recent transfer of power. and with that change came a new way of doing things, you understand.” he scoffed at the man, your proximity to the throne enlightening you to just how annoyed he was becoming in such a short period. it seemed that toro had that effect on everybody.
“how do i know this is actually someone with a price on their head? what evidence do you have that proves their identity?”
it was clear that your captor didn’t expect to have to prove a damned thing. what a fool, not even bothering to prepare for a single unexpected event. you were almost ashamed of having been overpowered by him at this point. “anyone who’s anyone knows, this is the former partner of the late fennec shand! i’m sure you heard abour her demise — that was me by the way — and now i’ve brought her partner to you, to be taken out of commission…”
all the hair on your body stood on end. fennec was dead? killed by the very man that brought you in? no, not your fennec. she wouldn’t be overpowered by this arrogant bastard in her sleep with a hand tied behind her back, there was no way. but boba said nothing to negate the rumors and that told you everything you need to know. “if you have even a morsel of mercy, by the stars make this quick. if she’s really gone, then i’ve kept her waiting for far too long.”
those were the first words you’ve spoken since toro bound you and dragged you like a ragdoll from your home. there was no reason to entertain the man, but there was the tiniest sliver of a chance that you could implore the mandalorian in front of you to end your life with the efficiency he was known for.
he asked the man his name and merely hummed in acknowledgment when it was boastfully given, like his name meant something to a battle hardened mandalorian such as boba fett.
if you had paid attention to boba’s demeanor since your arrival, you would have noticed that something in his air changed when toro spoke about being the one to kill fennec. some would have mistook it for disbelief but it was much more than that. boba knew that toro was indeed the man who shot fennec shand, but he was not the man who killed fennec shand because she simply wasn’t dead.
she was, in fact, just in the next room scavenging for another bottle of fluorescent blue spotchka when her curiosity was piqued by the conversation occurring in the throne room. at the way the voices seemed to be familiar, she abandoned the search and decided to see for herself what the commotion was.
what she found sent liquid fire through her veins. you, on your knees and head bowed just enough to show resignation and grief, binders shackling your arms and fennec knew that you wouldn’t be able to get up on your own because of it. toro calican, the man who nearly killed her all those sunsets ago in the middle of tusken territory standing above you with a wicked sneer on his lips. this would simply not do.
“word of advice, calican,” she made her presence known with her voice, walking around to boba’s right hand side and leaning a hip against the throne. “always make sure your kills are dead before you leave them. leaving them for dead? that’s how you make enemies.” her blaster was out of her holster and firing before toro could reply, and boba was impressed with the speed she fired with. he had a feeling that it had to do with the figure at the foot of his throne.
your eyes had to be deceiving you. there was no way, toro killed fennec… right? so how in the stars was she here now? the feeling of her hands on your cheeks, warm brown eyes giving you much needed comfort after what you’ve been through. you didn’t even register boba leaving his throne until he’s on the ground in front of you, unclasping your binders with the gentleness one would treat an injured animal. maybe that’s what you were to him, a pitiful tooka missing a leg that was dropped on his doorstep.
before you can venture deeper into this rabbit hole, your body is pulled off the questionable floor and into fennec’s embrace. the way she felt against you, the calluses of her hands as she held you, it was home. you didn’t know when the tears had come back but she was quick to wipe them away with the pads of her thumbs.
“seems you found trouble. what happened to laying low, huh?” her comment brought a ready chuckle from your throat and a small smile to her lips. sweet maker how you’ve missed that smile. “maybe you’ll be safer here, what do you think?”
any and all words elude you. nothing on this planet or any other in the galaxy could drag you away from her now, not when she’s as beautiful now as the day you met her, when she gives you the smile you knew was only saved for you. “i’m always safer with you, fennec.”
she hums, her lips pressing to your forehead to ground you both in the reality of being together again. “i’ll have to say the same about you, desert rose. nearly died only a week after i left your hut.”
“only a week? i thought you’d last longer than that.”
“it was because i didn’t have you. but we don’t have to worry about that anymore, do we?”
she was right, you wouldn’t have to worry about losing her for the rest of your life.

CAMPING | GING X FEM!READER
Tumblr media
okay first i wanna state that i feel really bad for writing a femme reader but in the writing process i realized it flowed easier w a gender specific label (Its only in one line of the fic). I do try to make my other works gender neutral, so if youre looking for something like that please check my masterlist.
For some reason the flow seems off to me im not sure if its because its so long or what but i apologize for that
there are no content warnings besides possibly smoking ?
this is a sfw drabble i wrote that touches on gings s/o trying to integrate into his life, as well as develop a positive relationship with his son. This sounds weird but it will make sense when you read it lmao.
You sat in ging's livingroom. Anxiously awaiting for him to come downstairs. You had wanted to find a way to bond with his son, and you finally had the perfect idea.
When you had started dating Ging, you knew about Gon from the beginning. He was honest about everything, including the fact that their relationship wasn't the best. You had even met Gon a few times, he was so similar to his father , but it wasnt exactly easy to tell. You wanted him to like you. You wanted to have a family dynamic between the three of you. But, Ging wasn't so quick to jump onto the idea.
He had gotten used to only occasional visitation with Gon, and he wasn't too eager to parent full time. He had freedom this way, something he valued more than anything else.
Finally, as anticipated, the rythm of Ging making his way downstairs. He waltzed into the room, and plopped himself onto the couch, lazily. At a quick glance you were unable to tell if his hair were incredibly greasy, or if he had showered. With closer examination, and to your suprise, he was fresh and clean. Ging had actually showered.
"What's the occasion?" You teased as you moved from the chair to the couch, sitting next to him. He wasn't one to keep up on hygiene. To others it was offputting, well, even to you it occasionally got so bad you couldn't stand it , but, you had eventually gotten used to it.
"It's called, i had a day off and i smelled like rotten flesh" he retorted, sounding drained and slightly annoyed.
"Oh don't get all worked up, you know I'm only joking." You ran a hand through his hair, causing him to close his eyes. He was like a dog in many ways, especially when it came to personal attention.
Ging would never admit it, but he loved having you run your hands through his hair, or pepper his face in kisses. It made him feel special, and important. Neither of which are words he'd ever be expected to be described as.
"So. I had an idea." You kissed his jaw, trying to get him to relax a bit, hoping he would be more open minded that way.
Ging opened his eyes at that, raising a brow, and letting out a sigh. "Which is?"
" i think we should take gon camping" you chirped, excitedly.
"It's not my visitation weekend. So its out of the picture." He rolled his eyes.
"You know mito would agree to let him come. C'mon Ging, it wouldn't hurt you to spend some time with him... you are his father."
He shot you a dirty look. "What, are you trying to guilt trip me or something?"
"No, its not that. I just. Look I've really been trying to make this work. You're gone so often that we never do anything, and i think it would be good for gon to have parental involvement..."
He sighed, wiping his face with his hands, and paused for a moment. Contemplating.
You cuddled up to him as silence filled the room.
"I suppose so." He finally stated, looking at you.
"You really mean it?" Your smile said everything he needed to know.
"Yes, we can take gon camping." He sounded slightly less annoyed than before, perhaps even happy.
"I'll call mito and see what i can do!" You grabbed your phone from beside you and did just that.
Ging sighed. It was beyond him why anyone would ever voluntarily act as a parent. Why anyone would ever want to have a kid. They were messy, and smelly, and half of them cant even wipe their nose properly.
Once Gon was on the phone, you had put it onto speaker phone, so Ging could at least hear what was being said.
"... oh, but killua is here too! Can he come with us?"
You looked over to ging, who was signaling not to agree, and very obviously mouthing no, "Ging says that would be an excellent idea."
Ging facepalmed, and elbowed you for agreeing. Now there was one more kid he had to be responsible for.
Once the conversation ended and you hung up the phone, you stood up. "Okay grumps time to pack" you announced playfully.
"Why did you agree to let his friend come??"
"Ging, it isnt that big of a deal. I'm sure you wont even notice he's with us "
*hannah montana transition music*
A bag slung over your shoulder and the tent bag in your other hand, gon, killua, ging and yourself, made your way through ✨the great outdoors.
Ging had wanted to go to a campsite, where things were convenient, and less. . . Outdoorsy, but. When you picked Gon up he had his heart set on legitimate camping. Let's just say that ging wasnt too happy.
Trying to make his way through the various rocks and sticks that were haphazardly scattered across the ground, killua began to get aggravated. "People actually do this for fun!?" He and gon passed you and ging, trying to find a place to set up camp.
"Well, yeah. You've never done this?" Gon questioned killua, astounded.
" I had to sleep outside during the hunter exam and stuff but ... whats fun about living off the bare minimum and not showering for days on end."
Gon shrugged "it's something different to do. Sometimes my aunt mito and i will do it!"
"'Oh we won't even notice he's here' she said! 'Oh it will be no problem' she said." Ging snapped, and looked at you once gon and killua were out of ear shot. "That kid has been complaining for the past half hour!"
"Now you're the one complaining. It will be fine. He's not used to it." You responded, calmly compared to ging , who was sick of carrying what he had, and twice as sick of killua's constant complaining.
"If he says something one more time I'm going to-"
You shot him a look. "He's fourteen."
"So is gon, and you dont hear him complaining"
"Gon also grew up doing things outdoors, ging. Killua will get used to it eventually." You sighed, stopping at the clearing gon and killua had found, and setting everything you had down.
Ging threw his belongings down haphazardly, and leaned agaisnt a tree. "Ive done my part now its time for you to do yours." He looked at Gon and gestured to the tents.
"Okay! C'mon killua lets put these up!" Gon had no issue, and was honestly excited to try to do so.
You looked at ging. "Really?" You walked over. "You aren't going to teach him or help?"
Ging lit a cigarette, that he brought with him, regardless of the fact you had specifically told him not to, and shrugged. "He's a big boy he can do it himself."
"The whole point of this was to spend time with him, and y'know maybe teach him some stuff?"
Suddenly the sound of gon falling over and knocking killua down with him filled the surrounding area. "Uh!!! Miss __ !! Can you help us?" Gon and killua erupted in laughter, as they got up, to attempt to put the tent together again.
You shook your head, and went over to help the boys. Within no time both tents had been assembled and Gon and Killua were off roughhousing.
You looked down at yourself, your knees were dirty, and so were your hands, but that was part of camping, right? You watched the boys. It was nice to see them just, being kids. Everything the two of them had done, and been through, they deserved this. A moment where they weren't in fear of their life, and weren't consumed by some fight to come. Just. Two boys, playing, being kids. Something the two of them had never really gotten to do.
Ging sighed and thought to himself. maybe you were right. Maybe he should be more involved... maybe all of this was good for gon.
a/n: i might make a second part to this idk 😍😩‼

CALL OF THE RAVEN
PART 24
„'Morning.“ I said smiling, peeping from under the covers. Jake tured to me from his laptop „Good morning, angel.“ He said smiling back. „Did you sleep well?“ „I did.“ I said, getting up and stretching. „I actually don't remember the last time I slept so well.“ He grinned „Good.“ I looked arround the room, the absence of my favourite scent leaving me confused. „No coffee?“ I asked, and he looked serious at me „No, I'm affraid.“ „Oh.“ I said disappointed, draging my feet towards the bathroom, mumbling curses under my breath. I was at the doors when he said „I actually thought we could go to town for coffee.“ I turned to him surprised „You did?“ „Mhm.“ He said „It's a nice morning, would be a shame to spend it inside.“ He grinned, and I looked at him inquirely, leaning on the doorframe and crossing my arms „Really?“ „Yes.“ He said and I raised my brow at him „And that's the only reason?“ He laughed shaking his head „All right, you caught me. I do have an ulterior motive for it.“ „Yeah, I figured that out already.“ I said and grinned „All right, so out with it.“ Now he grinned „Patience, angel.“ I laughed „Are we playing that game again?“ „We are, and we both know who will win.“ He said and grinned even more „Again.“ I chuckled shaking my head. „Fine. But just so you know, one day I will find out how to break your winning streak.“ I said to him all serious. „Is that a threat?“ he asked teasingly. „No“ I said, detaching from the doorframe , mischievous smile on my face „It's a promise. And I always keep my promises.“
„Better now?“ Jake asked looking at me with a raised eyebrow, as I took a big sip of my coffee sighing happily. „Better now.“ I hummed cheerfuly back at him. He chuckled leaning back in the chair. „You know, I wonder what would happen if you'd go a day without coffee.“ „Oh, god, don't.“ I said and shuddered at the though of it „That would definitely NOT be a good day.“ He laughed hard at it. „Well then, I'll let you enjoy the rest of your coffee in peace.“ He said getting up. „Right, the 'ulterior motive'.“ I said grinning at him. He smiled and leaned to me for a kiss. „I wont be long.“ „Don't worry, you're leaving me in a good company.“ I said taking another big sip of coffee and grinning at him, and he shook his head at me as he walked away. With him gone, I took my phone out to check some things online, enjoying my coffee and the warmth of the sun. I was casually scrolling through some pictures slouched in the chair, when someone blocked the sun from me. I looked up annoyed by it, and was surprised at seeing the person in front of me. „Hello, Maya.“ I straightened in my chair. The bruise on his face was still a bit visible. „Hello, Phil.“ I said with indifferent voice. „You're still pissed at me, I see.“ He said and I looked at him rising my eyebrow. „You think?“ „All right, I deserve that.“ He said. „Can I join you?“ „Not sure that's a good idea“ I said „Jake will be back shortly, and I doubt he would be thrilled at seeing you.“ „You know what? I don't care.“ He said pulling the chair and sitting across from me. „Suit yourself.“ I said leaning back in mine. „So, how are you?“ he asked lighting up a cigarette. „Really, Phil?“ I asked sarcastically „Small talk?“ He sighed desperatly, exhaling the cigarette smoke „Damn it, Maya, cut me some slack here.“ „You're kidding me, right?“ I asked surprised „After what you did, you expect me to go easy on you?“ „Hey, I was the one who ended up on the floor, so yes.“ He said and grinned. I shook my head and rolled my eyes at him. „And I am trying to apologise here.“ „It's not just me that you need to apologise to, Phil.“ I said. „I know that.“ He started „But with you first, I have a less chance of ending up with a new bruise.“ „Oh, I wouldn't be so confident about it if I was you.“ I said with a smirk. He laughed „ I knew I wasn't wrong about you.“ „What's that supposed to mean?“ I asked a bit defensively. „Relax, gorgeous.“ He said, and I looked at him warningly. „Sorry, old habbits.“ He said and grinned. „All right, Phil“ I said a bit annoyed „So far, all that I heard from you didn't sound remotely close to an apology.“ „Jesus, you really are a tough cookie.“ He said, putting out his cigarette in the ashtray a bit harshly. He looked back at me „I am sorry for what happened.“ He said, and I waited a little for him to continue, but he said nothing. „That's it?“ I asked surprised. „This has to be the lousiest apology I have ever heard.“ „Damn it, Maya, what do you want from me?“ he said, his voice starting to sound insecure. He took out another cigarette, lighting it up. „Well, a bit more then a simple 'sorry' was what I expected, to be honest.“ I said. He shook his head at me „You really can't comprehend it, can you?“ Now I got confused „What are you talking about?“ „You think this is easy for me?“ he said almost hissing it. „I was really into you, Maya, and I guess I still am. Belive me, I tried to move on, but dam it, you are not easy to let go off.“ I held my breath a this words. „And then the two of you parade in front of my eyes all happy and shit, and you expect me to just be ok with it?“ I didn't know if he wanted me to answer, but I could't say a word, feeling a knot in my throath. He laughed then „It's funny, you know“ he said „I always laughed at guys like that, thought of them as weak, whining about a girl that got away.“ He looked me in the eyes, his own with a sad touch in them, my heart squeezing at the sight of it. „How ignorant was I.“ I felt awful, his words hit hard at me. I never gave much thought of it all after we talked back then, when he assured me he
will be fine. But hearing all this from him now... „Phil“ I said softly, reaching for his hand, but he pulled it away before I had a chance to do it „Don't.“ He said sighing „And don't look at me liket that, please.“ „I'm sorry, Phil.“ I said and he laughed surprised „You are apologising to me now?“ „Yes“ I said „I had no clue how this all might be for you, I never wanted for any of this to happen. I really am sorry I made you feel this way.“ „Excellent, now I fell like even a bigger wimp.“ He said defeated. „Don't say that“ I said, reaching for his hand again, and this time he didn't pull it away. He looked at me. „I don't find you weak, or think of you being a wimp. It takes a lot of courage to admit what you just did to me.“ I said and squeezed his hand tight. He shook his head at me „You are really not making it any easier for me like this.“ I smiled awkwardly at him, moving my hand away „Sorry.“ I said, not knowing what more to say. I slouched sadly in my chair. „Don't worry, gorgeous.“ He siad and I looked at him. „I'll be fine, eventually.“ I smiled „I'm sure you will, Phil.“ „So“ he started, clearing his throath „Are we good now?“ „We are, as far as I'm concerned.“ I said and smiled. „Excellent!“ he said and grinned. He chuckled „Huh, I guess the hard part is done now.“ I chuckled back, but he got serious then, straightening in his chair. „Or was it?“ he said, and I looked confused at him, when I felt an arm on my shoulder „Everything all right here?“ I looked up, Jake staring intensly at Phil. I saw tension in his jawline, so I quickly covered his hand with mine „Everything is fine.“ He looked at me and I smiled reassuringly. „If you say so.“ He said, sitting down next to me, turning his look back to Phil. „So, to what do we owe the pleasure of your company?“ Jake asked him witha a bit of a menacing tone, taking my hand in his. Phil looked at Jake, a mixture of emotions on his face, and I felt a squeez at my heart again, so I quickly said „Phil was actually apologising for what happened.“ He looked at me, his eyes grateful for not making him say the words himself to Jake, and i smiled. „And I accepted his apology, from us both.“ I said, and Jake turned to me rising his eyebrow „Really?“ „Yes, really. I knew you would agree with me eitherway.“ I said, flashing him with the most charming smile I could make, knowing he wont be able to contradict me. „Don't tell me I was wrong?“ i said making a bit sad face, and he smiled at me „No, angel, you wer not.“ I smiled back at him, turning to Phil „Great, so that's settled then. Let bygones be bygones?“ I grinned, looking from Phil to Jake, until both reluclantly mumbled under their breaths something that sounded like 'fine' and 'sure'. „All right“ Phil said after a moment getting up „I'll be off now.“ Jake said nothing but I smiled at him „Take care, Phil. See you arround.“ He smiled back „ See you arround.“ He made a few steps, when he turned and walked back. „I just want to tell you one more thing, loverboy.“ He said, nad I tensed. His tone wasnt friendly at all, and I felt Jake tensing too, squeezing my hand tighter. „You better take care of her really good.“ He said his voice threatening. „Because, if anything happens to her, you better run, and fast. Before I can get my hands on you.“ He looked at me and winked before turning around and walking away casually. I just stared speechless after him. „Did he...just threatened me?“ Jake asked surprised, his grip to my hand relaxing. „It did sound that way.“ I said serious, but I was laughing inside at it. „He is aware that I don't have to use any physical force to make his life miserable, right?“ he said, and I turned to him. He was grinning devilishly still staring after Phil. „What ever diabolical thoughts are crossing your mind at the moment, disperse them.“ I said. „I have no idea what you're talking about.“ He said turning to me, trying to sound ignorant. „Jake, I'm being serious here.“ I said warningly, looking at him crossly „Leave Phil alone.“ „Fine.“ He groaned after a moment. „But only because you asked so
'nicely'.“
„So, are you finally gonna tell me where you went earlier?“ I asked him as we walked back to the motel. He looked sideways at me „Hmm, I could keep you on edge for a while more.“ „Oh, you're just being evil now!“ I protested and he laughed. „All right, all right. You have been really patiente, so here.“ He said, reaching to his back pocket handing me an envelope. I slowed my steps opening the envelope, and stopped when I saw what was in it. He stopped after a few more steps turning to me, and I ran and jumped to hug him. „Thank you, thank you, thank you!“ He chuckled „You're welcome, angel.“ I moved from him grinning „Are you really gonna endure watching an almost two hours long 'chick' movie with me?“ „If it makes you happy, yes.“ He said and smiled. I gave him a quick kiss „Thank you for this, really.“ I said as we started walking again. „It's something a normal couple would do.“ He laughed „ We definitely don't fall under that category.“ He hugged me with one hand „But you know, I will get a bit jelous, with you dreamily staring at the screen at Chris Hemsworth, with me sitting right next to you.“ „Oh, you dont have to get jelous“ I said grinning at him „After all, you will be the one I'll be going home with after.“
„I'm bored.“ Jake groaned, throwing himself on the bed next to me, my drawing pad jumping from my lap from it. „I can see that.“ I chuckled at him, taking my headphones off. „I have a great idea how you can help me with that.“ He grinned, burrying his face to my neck, leaving soft kisses. „Oh, as much as I like where this is going“ I said, reluctantly pushing him away „But I really need to finish with this before we go to the cinema.“ „You can be so cruel sometimes.“ He said, dramaticaly throwing his head on the pillow. I laughed, reaching for my phone that started to ring. „Hey, Jessy.“ I answered. „Hey, Maya.“ She said „Hope I'm not bothering you.“ „Ofcourse not, what's up?“ I asked. „Well, I'm actually calling to see if Jake is with you.“ she said, and I turned to look at him „He is.“ I said, and he looked confused at me. „Great. Is he bussy at the moment?“ she asked, and I grinned at him „Nop, he's not bussy at all.“ He made a face at me, and I chuckled silently. „What's happening, Jessy?“ „Oh, the end of the world is happening!“ she exclimed desperatly. „All right, calm down and explain.“ I said to her, trying not to laugh, knowing how Jessy can be overdramatic sometimes. „Calm down?!“ she boomed form the other side „I can't, Maya! I need some important things from my laptop for tomorrow for work, and it just started to act weird on me a minute ago! I can't do anything on it, I'm desperate.“ „Oh, thats not good, indeed.“ I said symphathetically. „Would you like me to send Jake over to take a look at it?“ „That would be great.“ She said hopefully „He really wouldn't mind coming?“ „Ofcourse not, Jessy.“ I said „He is bored, and I do have some work to do, so you are actually doing me a favore with draging him out of here.“ I grinned again at him, and he threw a pillow at me. „Yay, thank you so much!“ she said cheerfully „Tell him he can come over whenever he feels like it.“ „No worries, Jessy. He will be there shortly.“ „Thank you again, Maya. Talk to you soon.“ „Bye, Jessy.“ I putted the phone away, turning back to him grinning again. „There, now you have something to do.“ „Yeah, yeah.“ He said, getting up from the bed. „I get the hint.“ „Awww, dont be sulky.“ I said teasingly, coming to him, putting my hands arround his neck. „I'm almost done with my work, so if you finish fast with Jessys laptop, we might still have time for some fun before we have to go.“ He smiled mischievous at me „Oh, you just gave me a motivation to be fast with it.“ „Good“ I said kissing him. „Now, off you go, I'll be right here waiting eagerly.“
I was done with work after Jake left sooner then I expected, so I decided to take a quick shower. When done, I got dressed and I took my laptop sitting at the desk, finding some entertainment online to pass the time. My phone beeped with a new message, so I took it and smiled as I opened the chat.
Jake: Almost done here
Maya: That was really fast :P
Jake: You did gave me a motivation for it :P
Maya: And you weren't kidding about it :D
Jake: I never joke when that's in question ;)
Maya: Haha, I'll keep that in mind :)
Jake: See you soon, angel :)
Maya: Can't wait :)
The movie doesn't start before 9pm, and it was not even 7pm yet, so we still had plenty of time. I continued to browse stuff online, finding an interesting documentary to watch. I got so into it, when a knock at the door surprised me, making me jump in the chair. I turned to the doors, shaking my head at the sight of the keys sticking from the lock. I closed the laptop and got up, walking to the doors with a smile. I opened the doors grinning, ready with a witty comment on the subject of forgetfulness, the grin from my face dissapearing as i saw the person standing in front of me was not Jake. „Good evening, Miss Cole.“ I stared at the face of the unknow man, and the feeling of dread started to crawl at me. As I continued to look at thim, I thought there was something familiar about him to me, but i couldn't quite realize what. „I'm sorry“ I said, trying to hide the fear from my voice „Do I know you?“ „Not really.“ the man said, as the sinister smile formed on his lips. „But I tought the time has come for me to properly introduce myself.“
