ANOTHER STARKID MUSICAL. this one is just…… soooo good and funny and also . tragic. one of the characters reminds me a lot of toji :’3 former veteran w a dead wife…. who struggles to show his son how much he cares…… and the theme of capitalism and money and how it corrupts ppl also feels in line w toji’s character!! but above all else this musical is abt. Family. and that’s more toji than anything!!! :((( this is another musical that i rlly recommend checking out, it’s set in the same universe as the guy who didn’t like musicals but like . an alternate timeline. it’s not my favorite in the series but the songs slap and it made me cry so <3333 yeah.

Idk how to make a good intro to this but i’ll just try by starting with: theres a difference between fanfics and books

For fanfics it’s okay to have a shitty title, a song related title or just a whole ass quote(all tho that last ones debatable) theres still a lot of fanfics with great titles though.

This one seems obvious but please at least make your book SEEM interesting

But if you do want or need a good title let me help. I have no idea where to start so jm just gonna give u a couple of things to keep in mind withoutany particular order.

Okay so idk how to start this but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep your title at two words or less. If you have three… fine i guess but thats the absolute limit. Also absolutely avoid going over four syllables! That also in most cases means: no quotes, not songs etc unless theyre short enough. This is not optional! There’s nothing that i hate more than a name that takes ages to say when i try to recommend a book or show or movie which is why i simply dont do it. And you don’t want that. You want your storry to be recommended. Like the summer i turned pretty. Great book. Great plot. The title almost made me not read it.

Talking about at one. The summer i turned pretty also made no sense what so ever! Especially with the sequels??? Please make your titles make sense for the story! And if you wanna do sequels i’m BEGGING you to keep that in mind for the title.

Dont spoiler anything but for fucks sake make it make sense

Also pls dont start it with “the” cuz thats bad enough as it is but thats not even my point: if you dont want something boring as the MC’s full name, you also dont want something like the important object or just some random noun i promise. It CAN work if its like a name for a group of people like the outsiders or a gang name or smt but its like that it won’t so just… dont

I’d also avoid using original words that u amde up for the story. This isn’t necessarily smt that makes the title bad but it automatically means that it’s harder to remember so if you wanna be recomended thats probably a No. Unless its super easy to remember foe whatever reason.

So now that ive told you what NOT to do, let me give you some ‘DOs’

So theres several kinds of titles.

My personal favourite are like word plays. Not necessarily puns bc they often create new words which are as we’ve established hard to remember. But just something with a double meaning or something like that… i love that

Something else that always works are inconsistencys. Nothing like titles that contradicts itself! It sparks confusion and most importantly: INTEREST. People wanna know what the fuck is up with that. And it can alsk be rly soothing (for some reason)

References and innuendos are smt else i’ll never say no to if they’re used right. This can also overlap with wordplays. Famous (short) quotes or sayings, places or names are never not it

Smt else that slaps is good ol’ simplicity. Be bold. This👏does👏not👏have👏to👏be👏a👏spoiler! I promise you that just because you make it obvious what’s the book about that won’t spoiler shit.

Talking about: i love a good On-The-Nose title especially because most people expect nothing less than the exact opposite of it. Dont get me started on how banger of a title “They Both Die At The End” would be if it were just a little shorter!

And lastly even tho fullnames are an absolute turn-off last names can be sooo good. Especially when they’re about the whole family and especially when they’re in singular

Ofc these rules don’t always apply. Here are some examples of when they didnt

okay okay my shadow and bone season 2 hot takes are burning me from the inside out so here we go:

these are in no particular order but sadly it did feel kind of like a miss for me with nikolai :/  i was worried it was going to be way worse but there were a few changes that were just Not It for me. like you CANNOT just bring in Dominik and have him still be alive. he should’ve been dead the whole time, because that’s nikolai’s whole thing.  he has his charming prince / dashing privateer / all around witty fun guy façade, and underneath it is grief. over a normal commoner, who died wastefully in an unimportant battle.  it MATTERS that that death matters so much to nikolai

AND it’s really not the same for him to get randomly wounded 0.02 seconds before the civil war is completely over, and then later realize some weird magic shit is going on with the wound.  like instead of being DELIBERATELY made into a monster and then spending weeks? months? however long as a mostly mindless monster, unable to help his friends or his country and lowkey maybe eating people.  like that’s that 👏 good 👏 shit 👏 .

it also matters that he’s not visibly scarred afterwards? like literally “king of scars” hello? even if people outside his inner circle don’t know what really happened they still think the darkling tortured him for months or whatever.

anyway the point is the show needed to hurt nikolai a lot more.

kaz was perfect i love him, love how they delivered on his story, definitely the thing this season landed the best.

BUT it does somewhat irk me that pekka is still in the mix after kaz’s takedown.  he runs away, and then just as he’s thinking about maybe coming back, inej finishes it and he’s just OUT. the last chapter of the duology is him just being like “i can’t DEAL with how vicious these teens are i’m too old for this shit i’m FINISHED”.  i just think kaz brekker would not be satisfied with him still being in hellgate having any power whatsoever.

LOVED how little mattias content there was.  cut him out entirely. five of crows.

giving the darkling a weird underling with bad bangs and 90s lipstick and spending so much time on her was a strange move considering how many other things they were trying to cover, like y’all don’t have room to be adding new OCs.

JUSTICE FOR DUNYASHA why was inej fighting some random taxidermy man instead.  her appearance in crooked kingdom always DELIGHTS me because she just shows up out of nowhere declaring herself to be inej’s great rival and being psychosexually obsessed with her and inej is just ?????? because she has no idea who this fucking person is. changing her to some random dude is a homophobic attack on me personally.

i am glad they gave jesper some serious moments this season finally, but also a little sad with how much they rushed the grisha stuff for him. i think it’s probably an inevitable book-to-movie thing but they didn’t do enough with how much hiding his powers was fundamental to who he is. it’s like, the root of his frankly suicidal recklessness and addiction and shame.  his feelings about his powers are tied to his mother and her death but also to his father and how he taught Jesper to lie about himself and also made him feel ashamed/guilty to have powers.  AND most importantly it’s not just parent stuff, it’s a response to the world around him where grisha are hunted and persecuted and kidnapped and enslaved and conscripted and experimented on.  it’s not just that he’s sad about his mom.  it’s one of the many responses we see in the books from grishas towards a world that is so hostile to them.  you can’t just make it about the personal circumstances.  the social and political ones have an impact too.

i do get why they never get into it but man. i also missed jesper’s pathetic fucked up crush on kaz.  just another moment where the show provided the outer show (jesper being charming and having plenty of little flings and encounters) but not the knife-twist beneath it (him pining for kaz all those years and both of them kind of knowing it but never saying anything about it, and kaz just absolutely 100% not into him like that but not NOT stringing him along with little bits of kindness, unintentionally or intentionally).  like one of the things that is great about wylan and jesper is that it’s jesper deciding finally that he deserves more than waiting for little scraps of nothing from kaz and just going on a date with a nice boy, y’know?

i wish nina and inej had more friendship moments :c they haven’t known each other as long in the show. :c they’re supposed to be besties. :c i need them to be in love. :c

Scream 1996 review -

What a Normal friend group. It’d be a shame if anything happened…

Yes it’s my first time watching this movie, and how popular it’s become in media over the years has kind of ruined the :0 who done it? Effect of the movie, huh yeah I wonder if it’s ‘I speak exclusively in movie/horror movie references’ mcdreamy over here.

But in already knowing who the killer(s) is/are it gave me a appreciation? Both for the writers and for their planning as well as I have to give credit for a lot of what they do though the movie to perfectly craft out this ‘grand plan’ and the movie throwing in Red herrings like candy, even if it’s clearly Mr. NC-17.

Falling for tropes while being a parody-

Scream , while very clearly being a spoof/parody of horror movies in the day, also falls for many itself. Which is the point but again I can’t help but admire it? However Casey was mainly just plain stupid and I’ll admit that (keep him on the phone 😫 talk and play along, lock doors , grab something, call someone else etc.) but I LOVE her death scene as something about the tragedy of your salvation being RIGHT there but your screams make no noise is absolutely beautiful?

My favorite play on tropes is In the last act of the movie itself, after Billy’s fairly over dramatic death which features said “to red “ blood (by the way, poor criticism of Halloween, it has little)

When theyre revealed , they fall for the classic formula of any horror movie. They have a extremely complex and practically perfect plan that goes brilliant and then they’re extremely ducking stupid and get killed. As does every villian until ultimately it’s time for a sequel and some BS  explanation is given to how they’re alive. They were caught monologuing smh, never get caught monologuing. That and being overly excited over killing a reporter— it’s just a fun aspect, that and the end with a Tripple sort of jump scare? Also fucking love Sidney for just shooting that milasecond, not even thinking 👏 thank you for having brain cells and just so blank about it sjsksksksksk

Who’s the best charecter and why is is Stu and Tatum

Seriously they completely steal whatever scene they’re in , and since they’re dating it’s often sharing scenes. Which also just? Leads to best parts like smacking him with a lollipop or “oh that movie lol”. Seriously, their dynamic.

Also all my love to randy? Being the movie logic guy and logic in general, that and comedic art (also was NOT expecting him to be the 5th wheel of the group, if anyone I thought it’d be Stu or Sidney, rip randy)

Thought dump-

But if anything, my general question is:

Sidney is clearly dealing with some pretty major issues do to her mother’s murder and her initial jumping (on what she realizes to be the wrong suspect). So why is her friend group PEOPLE WHO TALK ABOUT NOTHING BUT HORROR MOVIES AND GORE ALL DAY? ??? But she does genuinely have some compelling/ messed up stuff going on which I could rant about forever but that’s another time

I’m also thinking about Billy preaching how great and glorious it is to not have a motive at all, isn’t that funny? Etc and then proceeding to just toss in ✨ I have mommy issues✨ while stus’s bleeding out on the counter In the background all ✌️.

Also not a question but I genuinely think they could have done something with stu’s “I’ll be right back” moment, but then again they weren’t out to kill anyone else at the party. Still though, would have been perfect moment for a fake death.

I found ‘liver alone’ funny Stu, your friends just don’t  appreciate humor (seriously this movie is so fucking funny I have at least a full page of good lines)

Also solidly convinced there was something going on between Billy and Stu- they got it for each other. At least Stu  definitely has a thing for Billy ‘peer pressure’ you love him-

A Review On ‘The Barbie Diaires’ (2006)

If you’ve spent any time in the Barbie fandom then you’ll know this movie is generally known for its horrific animation style which gives the whole film a bad rep. However! there are some redeeming qualities so let’s just start with those. (I also wanna apologise in advance for the bad quality gifs 😭)

We have to start with this.

This fucking diary bracelet set was the COOLEST thing to me as a kid.

The designs were so pretty and I love how you use the bracelet to unlock the diary, reminds me a lot of that password journal toy from the 2000s. Stephanie alone is such an iconic character, I mean this witty and stylish woman sells you a wish granting diary and then disappears- so mysterious.

However, I just wish they would’ve explored the magical part more as Barbie’s revelation in the middle of the movie always felt underwhelming to me. The film felt like it was trying too hard to be Mean Girls and forgot about the magical side of the book. It took away some of the film’s authenticity. I wouldn’t find this as a big issue normally but as the whole movie was centred around the diary it would make more sense.

At the time of it’s release, the film quickly became the outlier between all of the earlier fantasy releases. Like I said before, it’s one of the more realistic Barbie movies. But, It was nice to see a more relatable side of Barbie that deals with things like social anxiety, feeling isolated, bullying and relationships. As a kid, I didn’t like or understand this but I can appreciate it now.

Regardless, this movie is as cheesy and clique as you can get for an American Highschool drama but this somehow made the movie more enjoyable. I definitely believe they looked at 90s-2000s chic flicks for inspiration. Which is probably the main reason this movie is ranked so high on my list.

Here’s where is starts going down hill…

Let’s start with Kevin, FUCKIN KEVIN MAN. People might think I’m being harsh with this because Kevin was generally a good guy, he has the best friends to lovers relationship with Barbie. HOWEVER some of his dialogue or actions just doesn’t sit right with me, it comes off as just plain creepy.

@caitlinmckillop on YouTube actually explains this perfectly in her “ranking every barbie movie Ken from trash to marriage material” video.

Whilst on the subject of characters tho, TODD kinda sucks too. I mean he literally used Barbie as a rebound, broke up with her the second his ex comes callin, tries to get back with her. I don’t know he just seems like lowkey bit of a jerk.

Finally we get to this

THE👏ANIMATION👏 ..need I say more??

Won’t sugar coat it- the animation style for this movie was just terrible, the realism mixed in with barbie’s already doll like form was just odd. It makes the movie hard to watch. Mattel was clearly trying something different with this movie and I think it’s interesting to see how many other Barbie movies would later be created from this experience. For example Fashion Fairytale or the new Barbie Dreamhouse series both depicts Barbie in a modern setting. Other than that it was just so disappointing.

To conclude this, I’m rating this movie…

The Barbie Diaries though lacking in animation style makes up for it with its nostalgic 2000 feel, unique concepts and loveable cliques.

Yeah, I screamed, and so did my entire cinema and it makes me emotional just thinking about it. The cinema seemed like it was mostly teenagers so Andrew got a louder shout that Tobey and I was not expecting that I had somehow convinced myself that I would be the only one going absolutely apeshit at the sight of him because all the nerd boys do is talk about how much they prefer Tobey but maybe the nerd boys weren't there that day because hoo boy it was loud. It was so fucking loud I wish I could see it again in cinemas just to hear that again oh my god. (Tobey got a loud shout too, but not as loud. Tbh it was a very active audience. They yelled at the the octopus arms, they yelled at the Green Goblin bomb they were on it. There were grown ass men telling the teens to shush it was incredible.)

Real talk though, you know that quote from The Song of Achilles that's like "I could recognize him by touch alone, by smell; I would know him blind, by the way his breaths came and his feet struck the earth. I would know him in death, at the end of the world”? That was ... literally me in the fucking cinema. Before the reveal literally when they were just looking through the portal and it was pitch black and they called his name and he turned around I fucking knew I knew by his silhouette that it was Him and I turned to my sister and went "that's him. that's my Peter" like literally I 👏 would 👏 know 👏 him 👏 blind 👏 I 👏 would 👏 know 👏 him 👏 in 👏 the 👏 dark 👏 I 👏 would 👏 know 👏 him 👏 by 👏 his 👏 fucking 👏 posture 👏 apparently 👏

I was genuinely physically shaking whenever he was on screen. I teared up under my mask, I was fucking going through it literally I can't believe I got him back. I got him back. I got him back.

I did not like the movie. At all, but at least he was there. And Tobey. Oh, he looked so good in this movie. It was so lovely to see them both again, and to see them both on screen together. If only we would get more of that dynamic they were truly wonderful.

But, I wasn’t surprised to not like the movie. I hadn’t liked the two before it either. So much of Spider-Man movies rely on feeling for me, because Peter Parker is one of my favourite characters ever, and MCU Peter has never been Peter Parker for reasons that are well-documented in other posts on this site so I won’t go into here.

No Way Home just felt profoundly empty to me, in the way a lot of Marvel movies do if I’m being honest. It’s all sensationalism, baby. Sure, it’s a very well-made, well-acted film with a lot of money thrown at it, but where’s the heart? The thing that’s fundamental in a Spider-Man movie? They never nail that in my eyes. I said to Hannah before I went in “as much as this might be a good movie, I don’t think it will be a good Spider-Man movie,” and on the other side of this now I think I stand by that. That’s the fundamental difference for me.

So much of the dialogue relied on you already knowing everything about the characters. Which, thank god I watched the OG trilogy before going in because so much of the first half was calls back to those. Most of the dialogue was just “Haha, remember when this happened? Remember the sun in the palm of his hand? Remember how weird Electro used to look? Remember when Harry Osborn died in Peter’s arms? Remember what happened to Gwen?” and there’s ... no substance to that. It’s not intersexuality or integration as much as it’s just coasting off the fondness people have for the other movies. So much as it’s just pointing and being “wow wasn’t that cool?”

Like, they weren’t all there because Marvel cares so much about these characters that it couldn’t wait to bring them back. As if they’d crafted this plot out of love specifically just to reunite all these actors. No. they were there because it would make the most money, and as much as movie making is money making it should not be as blatant as it was in this film.

As much it had moments, or tried to, I could never let go of that. I could never let go of the lack of feeling that this had.

In essence, I’m like this close to writing an essay about the one aspect that really brings the MCU Spider-Man movies down in my eyes lmao.

My thoughts on all the Shonen Jump announcements, potential spoilers:

One Piece movie Red is sure to be a real treat given all the obvious musical influences, Robin’s outfit is my favorite aesthetically but Brook is stealing the show for me. The pigtails, the clothes, the thought of him rapping. I’m here for the whole package tbh. 10/10 I saw someone asking if Usopp dressing like Gene Simmons means his tongue is as long as his nose and I said, sir … 😏 say less

Hori saying the series will end in a year, “if everything goes smooth” … I do have my doubts about that statement, ofc, but either way he’d better figure out how he’s going to bring Rody in during that time 👏😤

Oh, and Bakugou is absolutely going to fuck Ochako. I wasn’t convinced until now but I absolutely believe it. I’m leaning towards the idea that Deku might end up with Hatsume, if anyone, but that is neither here nor there

I don’t really understand why they’re handling Dr Stones adaption this way and it’s a little frustrating, I can’t believe I have to wait until 2023 to see the island arc animated? At the rate they’re going it’ll be 2026 by the time Luna finally shows up, I hate it here 😔

Rurouni Kenshin getting a new anime was the very last thing I expected, it should be interesting when we get more details about what it will cover

On the flip side the rumor that Bastard!! would be getting a new anime but there was no confirmation … I cry. I admit I was tentatively hopeful about it 🤡

Dragon Ball Super’s movie … I don’t like it one bit. The CGI itself isn’t necessarily bad, I guess, but it still looks so wrong. I’ll admit the shot of Vegeta swiping his nose was nice, but that’s not enough to make me accept this CGI bullshit. Tbh DB definitely reaches a point where it’s animation gets too updated and it looses a good chunk of its charm imo but this just really takes the cake, I tell you what

Jigokuraku’s trailer was pretty damn satisfying, I am looking forward to this one. I read a good chunk of the manga when it’s adaption was first announced and I’ve just been twiddling my thumbs ever since, so I’m just glad we finally got something lol

Spy x Family’s trailer was likewise promising, I never checked this one out but I might do it now. It certainly looks fun, and the little girl is super cute. Yes, I will be self inserting, look away ✋😭

JJK’s trailer was a blur for me that consisted entirely of Suguru and nothing but Suguru, and I’m just glad he’s finally getting treated properly. He’s so pretty??? The stark difference between movie Suguru and tv anime Suguru is night and day, idk why they did him like that, and no, I don’t think the brain worms are to blame in this case. Mappa just wanted to stroke Gojo’s cock too much to care about anyone else and it really shows. 😒

Finally, finding out how much control Kubo was given over the final Bleach arc is VERY promising imo. I just hope the animation quality stays somewhat consistent with what we saw in the trailer because one of the old anime’s biggest flaws was it’s obvious lack of a budget. Yes, it looked good at times but by and large it was always fighting for its life, which I think played a large part in its cancellation. And yes, I’m going to finish watching it before the last season airs 🙄 That long ass filler arc right after the Soul Society shit killed all of my interest, unfortunately, but I WILL complete it.

Pretty Little Liars is a mess that I can't willingly recommend to anyone 😅 It's ridiculous and nonsensical (of course I've watched it all, because I like to torture myself) but it's oddly fun if you treat it as a comedy 😂 and yes, I usually need something in the background to fall asleep to, otherwise I start overthinking and I sleep little as it is.
