I don’t usually take videos at concerts because it’s annoying and pulls me out of the moment (also because I like scream-singing and I don’t want that on video), buuuut a friend asked me to film a bit of Pulp last night for him.

This is me struggling to see because I’m smol but still managed to catch something.

Me as Thai people, the chance of seeing Pulp perform in Thailand seemed almost impossible. Yet, that day arrived unexpectedly when Pulp announced a tour in Hong Kong...

On December 2, 2023, I flew to see Pulp at Clockenflap in Hong Kong. It was the first time in my life I got to see an artist I love in person. Honestly, although I've only known this band for about six years, I love their music deeply. Jarvis Cocker's storytelling in his songs captivates me to the point where I almost lose myself in the lyrics.

I find it hard to express my feelings fully and as closely as possible to my native language. What I want to say is, thank you for all of these existing. Your music has helped me through both good and bad times. Thank you, Jarvis, for your unwavering passion in following your dreams and forming this band. You've taught me how important dreams, actions, and self-love are.

Thank you so much.

P.S. Jarvis, please don't fall down any more stairs. Everyone is worried about you!

Pulp Get Get Reunited with NYC at Kings Theatre

Four decades as a band and the Britpop darlings Pulp haven’t skipped a beat. Lead singer Jarvis Cocker, keyboardist Candida Doyle, guitarist Mark Webber and drummer Nick Banks returned Stateside for the five-city North American leg of their This Is What We Do for an Encore Tour. They hadn’t played the United States since their 2012 Coachella reunion — and it’s been a long wait for their return.

Despite another famed Britpop band’s reunion announcement, the steady and uncomplicated Sheffield, England, four-piece might be the better bet for that nostalgic ’90s alternative-rock laced with melancholy lyrics. After playing Chicago and Toronto, Cocker and company arrived at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre on Friday for two sold-out appearances. Per the opening intro text projected onstage on Saturday, the night was the band’s 556th show. 

Enshrouded in darkness against a moon, Cocker sang, “I Spy,” but quickly leaped on top of floor speakers to the roar of the crowd. To celebrate Webber’s birthday, Pulp broke from their setlist to play “Bad Cover Version,” and then upon its conclusion, a fan led the audience in a hearty “Happy Birthday” sing-along. In another honorary moment, the band dedicated “Something Changed” to their recently departed longtime bassist Steve Mackey. 

Cocker was the centerpiece on Saturday, gyrating across the stage with freeform movements, from languid voguing to exclamatory leaps. He lounged in an armchair bathed in red before igniting in syncopated arm gestures for “This Is Hardcore.” And then the room was quizzed on the year, month and day of Pulp’s very first show in New York City (as the opener for Blur), a fitting segue into “Do You Remember the First Time?” 

The band would return for not one but two encores. The first was a trio of fan favorites, “Like a Friend,” “Underwear” and “Common People,” while the second offered a new song, “Spike Island,” based on the historic Irish island that housed a former prison and hosted a legendary 1990 Stone Roses concert. Fittingly, Pulp closed with the 1994 standout track “Razzamatazz,” from His ’n’ Hers, and “Glory Days,” off 1998’s This Is Hardcore. —Sharlene Chiu | @Shar0ck

I went to the pulp concert in Chicago, and I made this thing to have a physical memory of the setlist that played that night I think it turned out really cool and I thought maybe you guys would like it too.

For context, the colors are brighter in the picture I created, but when printing, the ink and lighting made it a bit darker

something i wish i'd see more in trigun fanarts is people having vash speak their native/non-english languages completely unprompted, ive seen folks have him speak french, which he canonically knows, but i really do believe he's a polyglot. mostly because of that one time in the desert when he saw the samurai and wanted to greet him in japanese but struggled to remember how to even say hello.

my headcanon is that rem had them learn as many languages as possible but with the big fall and so many people dying, which i think is what led english to became No man's land main (or even only?) language, means that vash (and knives!) both got horribly out of practice and are various sort of rusty in every others languages.

what im saying if there's any pun or joke you've been dying to write but just doesn't work in english vash (and knives!!) are right there!

tianwang and colours

teaser photos of this week's episodes were released and i couldn't stop staring at jiang tian and sheng wang's clothes.

@respectthepetty shared a brilliant post on the drama's colour theory, especially pertaining to the colours jiang tian and sheng wang are wearing or associated with. [thanks so much op for the insightful and beautifully written post ^^]

so, in this photo, jiang tian and sheng wang (maybe) are having a study date outside of school (and they look so domestic and cute and UGH). however, i do notice that jiang tian wears a darker shade of brown while sheng wang wears something lighter.

directly quoting from op's post, "One is light, and the other is dark. One is the sun, and one is the moon. One is warm, and one is cool."

we're so used to seeing jiang tian in dark-coloured clothes (black, grey, blue) while sheng wang always wears something light/bright (orange, white, red, yellow). i think it's such a nice detail to be added in this drama and also jiang tian and sheng wang's characters, considering the progress of their relationship.

i guess, it's showing us how sheng wang has brought light into jiang tian's life, and now he's no longer drenched in only darkness. he still wears darker colours than sheng wang, but it doesn't have that usual gloominess. i think sheng wang balances jiang tian's darkness, and it's just so beautiful to witness this in the upcoming episodes.

and don't get me started on the matching bracelets.....

if my eyesight isn't deceiving me, jiang tian is blue and sheng wang is yellow/brown? again, op uses the motif 'the sun and the moon' to represent jiang tian and sheng wang and i think it's the most accurate representation of their personality.

even though the sun and the moon don't collide, they still belong to the same sky.

i honestly can't wait to see the shift in their relationship. since the walls between them are no longer high, will they finally be united? will there be more than just this feeling of wanting to be closer? what will happen in episode 7 that leads to them wearing these matching bracelets?

so many questions are left unanswered. we just have to wait and see.

third years tokyo trip stories:

tsuzuri: that time kozu and megu became lost children kozue: we did not get lost. that was tsuzuri wandering off. megumi: we were walking around asakusa when i noticed tsuzuri had gone!!

"kozu-tan" found her soon after since she had an idea of where tsuzuri would go (food sample store. also tsuzuri's 365 days card) (she was getting a souvenir for kosuzu) (oden donburi) (she liked it)

kozue wrote on an ema at kanda myoujin [her 365 days card] and also bought one for the clubroom as a souvenir [its on the right of the whiteboard]

they each wrote something on it. kozue wrote "sound health" so everyone will be healthy this year. tsuzuri wrote "harmony," since she wants to have fun with everyone (kozue: that's not really the same meaning...). megumi wrote "ill captivate you, just you wait and see ☆" (kozue: its very "megumi." "right? ehe~" "that wasnt a compliment.")

megumi went to a hand cream store which had lots of different package designs and looked for some for her kouhai as well [its called 365 hand cream]

tsuzuri found a cool dragon keychain that she thought of buying for suzu but she'd already bought the oden and kozu had said to only buy one souvenir...

kozue understands wanting to buy lots of things for your kouhai but itd be difficult to carry that much luggage (megumi thought about how hime-chan and the others were waiting for them and called it "parental love")

tsuzuri says she wants to go on another school trip and megumi's like well if you repeat the year... ("megumi." "im joking~~~~~")

tsuzuri says they should go with the second and first years next time but kozue says thats just a regular trip

kozue went to akihabara for kanda myoujin, megumi went to harajuku for accessories at laforet (and ate crêpes!)

they went to shibuya for the pokémon centre together and tsuzuri says she wanted a plushie of "the pink one with a big face" but kozu wouldn't let her again because it was too big. so she bought a small one instead [guesses ive seen for this are mostly slowpoke and jigglypuff]

they went up tokyo tower too

what they did on the shinkansen:

tsuzuri: looked outside. ate the ekiben she'd chosen with sayaka

megumi: ate a katsu

kozue: listened to music (classic + school idols) since she gets travel sick

they had naps too. also, when they're on the bus in kanazawa kozue always has to wake the other two up

hugo's sentence structure is so much easier on me than that of dumas. sure he will also include behemoths that make me forget what we were talking about by the time i get to the period, but usually those are just lists. in the first 80 pages i've only noticed one OVS subordinate clause (and it was very short). this comes as a pleasant surprise, because the author's note on the very first page of the book is the following single sentence:

Tant qu'il existera, par le fait des lois et des moeurs, une damnation sociale créant artificiellement, en pleine civilisation, des enfers, et compliquant d'une fatalité humaine la destinée qui est divine ; tant que les trois problèmes du siècle, la dégradation de l'homme par le prolétariat, la déchéance de la femme par la faim, l'atrophie de l'enfant par la nuit, ne seront pas résolus ; tant que, dans de certaines régions, l'asphyxie sociale sera possible ; en d'autres termes, et à un point de vue plus étendu encore, tant qu'il y aura sur la terre ignorance et misère, des livres de la nature de celui-ci pourront ne pas être inutiles.
