KilluGon and the Chimera Ant Arc
idk what to title this. but it’s basically just a few interesting killugon parallels and connections i found in the CAA. (SPOILERS AHEAD!!)
1)
“Precious.”
“You’re the only one for me!”
The Killua scene happens in chapter 219. The Palm and Knov scene happens right after, in chapter 220.
Y’all know the story. Killua fights a rabbit and proclaims Gon as his “most precious friend” . Killua thinks of all their moments together, the most emphasized one being from the dodgeball game when Gon said some gay shit to him.
“KILLUA JA NAKYA DAME NAN DA!” is the exact phrase Gon used.
It’s a romantic phrase in Japan. The English equivalent is :
Killua is the only one for me! ; it has to be Killua! ; Killua is my one and only!
READ THIS ARTICLE. IT EXPLAINS EVERYTHING ABOUT GON AND THE PHRASE HE USED.
The top panel is the next chapter when Knov caught Palm using her power without his permission. He manipulates her by saying “Your blood is precious resource.” , knowing exactly how that word would affect her. After hearing Knov say “precious” , Palm thinks to herself “Knov is the only one for me!”
clips from the anime bc i luv how they portrayed these two scenes
i wanted to address that each scene uses different wording BUT they all mean the same thing, just like how there’s multiple ways to say English words and phrases, it’s. the. same. thing. romantic phrases. preciousness. one and only.
Gon :
じゃなきゃダメなんだ (Ja nakya dame nan da) = You’re the only one for me / It has to be you
Palm :
しかいない (Shika inai) = You’re the only one for me / There is only you
Killua :
大事な (Dajina) = Precious / Important
Knov :
貴重 (Kichō) = Precious / Valuable
Anyway, the point is, Togashi’s intentions with this little connection is clear. Knov calling Palm’s blood “precious” and Palm saying “Knov is the only one for me” which was expressed in a very romantic manner, and it all happened like 15 minutes after Killua and Gon said the same things abt each other.
Palm and Knov paralleled Gon and Killua from the very moment they were first introduced.
I’m working on a separate post that focuses solely on the parallels between PalmKnov and GonKillua because it’s a lot.
2)
“Can I stay by your side?”
“Would you stay by my side?”
The bottom panel is the conversation between Meruem and Komugi before they... you know... shinjuu.
I know I talk a lot about Palm and Knov paralleling/reflecting killugon but the parallels with Meruem and Komugi go CRAZY. It's so underrated. The above dialogue is just one example of the many parallels.
Isn't it interesting how Togashi chose to make Gon and Killua reflect not just one but TWO romantic pairings so far?
"I want to stay by your side... always........."
"I'll stay with you... forever!!"
(they make me so sick it hurts)
3)
Importance
I never realized how big of a theme "importance" was in hxh. It connects everything all together.
In the top left panel, it explains how Komugi is important to Pitou because of how Komugi is important to Meruem, and Meruem is important to Pitou.
But the thing is, although Pitou already knew it, Meruem (at the time) didn't realize that Komugi was the thing most important to him. The thing most important wasn't his initial goal of taking over the world, but the person he met along the way, the one who flipped his world upside down and gave him his first feelings of friendship and love.
Meruem didn't realize Komugi was most important to him until after they were separated and reunited again. He fully understood her importance as they prepared to die together (shinjuu).
Oh, and then we have Gon, Killua, and Palm, of course. And Ging.
We're all familiar with Killua's little breakdown. Palm reassured him that she wasn't the one most important to Gon, but that it was Killua all along. Killua is the most important to Gon.
Killua then also becomes important to Palm, because of how Killua is important to Gon, and Gon is important to Palm.
But the thing is, although Palm already knew it, Gon (at the time) didn't realize that Killua was the thing most important to him. The thing most important wasn't his initial goal of finding his dad, but the person he met along the way, the one who flipped his world upside down and gave him his first feelings of friendship and love.
Gon's true feelings and thoughts are actually still unclear, which leads me to believe that his story with Killua isn't over yet. I can only assume that he'll have a similar realization just like Meruem.
According to the bottom right panel, Gon will "inherit" the heart of realizing what (or who, in this case) is truly important. Togashi told us right there in bold lettering.
You alr know that man is cookin somethin real good up 🔥
"Killua is the only one for me!"
"You are the one most important to Gon."
4)
Love
"It'll be a lovers suicide."
"His most beloved...." "Gon."
"Love will always prevail!!"
Ok but can we talk about how HISOKA of all people was the first to say it outloud that Gon and Killua are something more than friends? His little speech doesn't sound that ambiguous to me, he make it pretty clear that Gon is KIllua's beloved, right after using a hetero romantic couple as an example. read my post about this moment here!!
Love love love. HXH IS ABOUT LOVE. The main love of focus is between Gon and Killua, obviously.
And yeah, i know two of the panels aren't CAA related, but everything is indirectly connected to that arc so i'll allow it.
I already have a post regarding "the teachings of love" and how it connects to killugon. here ya go.
yeah. that's all i got for tonight.
long story short :
hxh gay killugon canon killugon reflect romantic pairings everywhere even hisoka admits it KILLUA LITERALLY ADMITTED IT OUT LOUD. killugon will reunite and maybe shinjuu together. thats how they end. just like komumu and meruru
WAKE UP. HXH WOKE!!!!! TOGASHI WOKE!!!!!
#killugon#killugon propaganda#killugon canon#togashi ships killugon#togashi is goated#no wonder hxh has been going on since 1998#king of parallels#king of romance#togashi invented romance in 1998

Im so sorry for the super late response!! Im not even going to question the heat pill and how it came from pitou 💀 at least tell me reader gave consent to being mutated and it wasn't something killua just decided for her….. I totally get being a Virginia and all, it's just that your other killua fics were a lot more detailed and longer. The neko one seemed more like it was done in a hurry. Don't want this to come off as me complaining though, because I know I'D definitely feel a little disheartened if one of my requesters told me they were disappointed with my work. It was fine, really! And anyway, anyone, even the best smut writer, has room for improvement :) I really appreciate that you'll let me know if you can do my request or not, not a lot of writers do that and it's really helpful, instead of just leaving me waiting and wondering. (God knows how many of my requests have actually been made but I don't know because I stopped checking…) With that out of the way, here are my two requests! 🌸
You said you'd be fine writing more killua x neko reader. So I was thinking perhaps just general relationship headcanons, sfw and nsfw. And this time, it takes place in the hxh world where reader was BORN that way and that's not exactly weird lmao. No pituo pill 💀 same personality: shy, sweet, cute, cuddly, you know..
And for my second request, I'm not sure if this counts as a hc, I guess it does, it's basically just me asking for your thoughts on this: I've being wondering about this for a while. I didn't think it, but turns out silva and kikyo do actually love each other. So killua probably grew up seeing those expressions of "love" and thinking that's normal for a relationship. How do you think that would affect his relationship with reader? And if it isn't too much, how do you think his overall experience with his family effects it? Because I highly doubt after everything he's gone through that his relationship with the reader would be perfectly normal.
It's totally fine if you only want to do one of those, or even none. No pressure! And take all the time you need. Thanks in advance :)
PS: you said you had some ideas of your own, so feel free to write them if you feel like it. i check your account sometimes, so I won't miss your killua content. But I understand if your busy and can only write what is requested. But you haven't posted anything for 2 weeks now, so I THINK it's safe to assume you don't have or get a lot of requests. So in the meantime, you could write and post your own fics. Just an idea though! (I hope this isn't coming off as forceful...) this is already super long, sorry about that, so good night/morning/evening and I look forward to hearing from you!
You check my account sometimes 🥺🥺🥺
I really appreciate it and I was just thinking about writing another neko one, but maybe a relationship head Canon set would help me with the writing a bit.
I for sure like your suggestions, and I just like the crazy side of yandere's. A lot of my personal ones have a lot of stalking lmao.
I'll probably put out something for another character today and here in the next few days get some Killua X neko stuff in my drafts and at least one out.

Royal Guard Nomenclature
You might know the Royal Guards for having some creative names, and if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably read HxH Wiki trivia on where the names came from. However, I haven’t seen any comprehensive post getting right into it, so lets have some fun research time and look into the origins of the Chimera Ant Royal Guard’s namesakes and how they might have affected Togashi’s characterizations of them!
While i’m trying to keep everything as brief as I can, this will be a longer post so if you want to gain some knowledge and kill some time, read on! I’ve linked sources throughout the post for further research!
Naming Origin Sources
All three of the Guard’s names - Neferpitou, Shaiapouf, and Menthuthuyoupi, respectively- were chosen by the Chimera Ant Queen prior to their birth in the story. They are mashups from two sources - Ancient Egyptian mythology, specifically the pantheon of traditional gods and goddesses, and a French children’s book series entitled Caroline et ses amis (Caroline and her Friends) written by Pierre Probst.
The Guard x Egyptian Gods
In Ancient Egyptian life, people worshiped a large number of deities which represented natural forces and phenomena (sunlight, life, childbirth, etc). The people regularly offered sacrifices and performed rituals to please the gods so that these forces would continue to function according to divine order (ma’at). Each god or goddess had complex relationships, characteristics, and symbolism associated with them. {x}
Neferpitou x Nefertem
The first half of Neferpitou’s name, “Nefer-”, is derived from the Egyptian deity Nefertem. A very ancient god by Egyptian mythos standards, this god is associated with the lotus flower, as he was believed to have emerged in a water lily from the primal waters at the creation of the world. He also represented the first sunlight and the lovely smell of the Egyptian blue lotus. Nefertem is usually depicted as a young, beautiful man, and sports titles such as “He Who Is Beautiful” and “Water Lily of the Sun”. {x} {x}
In HxH, Neferpitou is the first Royal Guard to be born, which ties in nicely to Nefertem’s being a very early god born from the creation of the world as well as being associated with the first sunlight. As for the beauty aspect, Neferpitou’s androgynous appearance could play into this factor, as some gods in the Egyptian creation myths were depicted as androgynous.
Nefertem’’s mother is often credited as being Bast/Bastet, the guardian goddess of cats, or Sekhmet, the warrior goddess of healing (both goddesses are often considered to be two aspects of the same goddess). These goddesses are both depicted with cat or lioness heads, and so Nefertem is often depicted with a lion’s head or as a lion. I needn’t say more about this tie to Neferpitou! Aside from the cat aspect, Sekhmet’s being a goddess that both goes to war and heals is reflected in Pitou’s dual nature- both a ruthless killing machine in their own right and with their Terpsichora ability making instant armies, and a reliable healer using the Doctor Blythe ability, showcasing a compassionate side. {x} {x}
Shaiapouf x Shai
Shaiapouf’s Egyptian name component comes from Shai, which, interestingly, is not so much an entity as it is a concept- the deification of the concept of Fate. The name Shai is usually translated as “that which is ordained”. This god was said to determine the span of each person’s life; he was with each person at their birth and remained with them through their life until their final judgement in the underworld (duat). Shai would offer the true life story of the individual at their judgement, and could either protect or damn them. This deity has so much power in the Egyptian mythos that even pharaohs and other gods were subject to it. {x} {x}
Now, although Shaiapouf as a character doesn’t have an omnipotent power over fate, the concept of fate runs really strong in Pouf’s characterization. Pouf, along with the other Royal Guards, was present at King Meruem’s birth, and intended to stay at his side throughout his whole life, guiding and protecting him. This is a role that Pouf seemed to take to heart, almost to an extreme. As we know, Pouf saw the King’s destiny of becoming the ruler of the world and dominating all other species as being absolute, and began to actively work against the Guard and even the King himself when he began to stray from the fate that Pouf had “preordained” for him. Going so far as to attempt to kill Komugi, who was the most important person to the King, Pouf’s actions, although out of a motivation to protect the King, would have been damning for the King had he succeeded.
Shaiapouf’s nen ability, Spiritual Message, gives us a hint as to his namesake as well. The god Shai hid nothing from Osiris (god of the underworld) at the final judgement of that person’s life, and so does Pouf’s ability allow him to see the absolute truth about a person’s emotional state by reading their flow of aura. This gives Pouf the ability to come to conclusions about that person’s personality, thoughts, and possible course of action, seemingly allowing him to predict their “fate”. {x}
Also, this may be a trivial fact, but Pouf has the habit of ending his sentences with, “That’s all there is to it”. A very final and fateful statement indeed.
Being a concept, Shai is neither male nor female, but is more often depicted as being male. In this form, he is often said to be married to Renenutet (cobra goddess of child rearing who gave newborn babies secret names), or Meskhenet (goddess of childbirth). These three are often depicted together which gives us a definite picture of the cycle of birth and death. {x} {x}
In HxH, after Meruem is mortally wounded by the Miniature Rose Bomb, we get the lovely and terrifying experience of seeing Pouf and Youpi feed themselves to the King in order to revive him. In this scene, both guards are ecstatic as they have ascended to the level of a Chimera Ant Queen and are filled with an unconditional motherly love for their King. The ties here between this occurrence and these trifecta of gods associated with birth and life are pretty strong.
A few final small factoids: The Greek people associated Shai with their god Agathodaemon, a god of fortunetelling that was considered to be a serpent. As well, the word Shai was also an Egyptian word for “Pig”. Thus, Shai was sometimes depicted as a serpent-headed pig, also called the Shai animal. I am reminded of the time Pouf was shown to be able to rearrange his cells to impersonate a certain blind Gungi player.
Menthuthuyoupi x Montu
The final Royal Guard, Menthuthuyoupi, bears the name of Montu, a very powerful and ancient god in the Egyptian pantheon. Montu (also written as Monthu or Menthu, the latter which Youpi uses in his name) originally was a manifestation of the scorching effects of the sun (Ra), but over time this was modified to mean destructiveness in battle, which led to Montu being known as a god of war. He was said to attack the enemies of cosmic order (ma’at).Montu is usually depicted with a falcon head or a bull head. Falcons were a symbol of the sky, and bulls symbolized strength and war. {x} {x}
Montu was often linked with other gods and is depicted as a fusion of those gods. For instance, because of his association with Ra, he often appears as Montu-Ra. Occassionally he is linked to Atum (another creator god) and Set (god of scary natural phenomena and deserts). Over time, Montu was also linked to Horus, a god associated with the pharaoh, and therefore Montu is sometimes seen as being a symbol of a Pharaoh as a ruler and conqueror.
In HxH, Menthuthuyoupi definitely embodies the warlike aspect of his namesake. Being the only guard not made from human genetic material, he is able to act on instinct and devote himself completely to being a soldier for the King, attacking anyone who threatened the King’s divine rule. Being immensely powerful, Youpi was capable of immense damage with his Rage Blast and Rage Incarnate nen abilities. As well, just as Montu gradually evolved over time to represent more complex aspects of life in Ancient Egypt, so too did Youpi evolve over the course of the Chimera Ant Arc, which gave his life new and more complex meaning.
The many forms Montu can take reminds us of Youpi’s unique Metamorphosis ability, which allows him to change any part of his body at will to suit his needs. Youpi’s Rage Incarnate form, in which his body takes the worm of a winged centaur, is a callback to Montu’s two most common depictions; as a Falcon (Youpi’s wings), and as a Bull (Youpi’s hooves). {x}
One of Montu’s wives was thought to be Tjenenet, another goddess of childbirth, which has ties to the event of Meruem’s rebirth discussed in Shaiapouf’s section above.
An interesting tidbit of info is that Montu was sometimes though to be a guardian of family life. He is sometimes mentioned in marriage documents to enforce commitment; infidelity is described as “the abomination of Montu”. While this doesn’t really have anything to do with Menthuthuyoupi aside from maybe reflecting in his loyalty to the King, the next time you feel tempted to cheat on your significant other, imagining a frowning Youpi may dissuade you.
One thing that each Royal Guard has in common with all of their Egyptian namesakes is that all strive to support what they see as the Divine Order using their individual strengths, even if their methods of supporting this order greatly differ.
The Guard x Caroline et ses amis
The Caroline series is a series of French childrens picture books, or albums, written and illustrated by Pierre Probst. There are 44 books in the series, which were written from 1953 to 2007. They follow Caroline, a little blond girl who is independent and active, and her 8 mischievous animal friends, who talk like humans. The series was adapted into an animated TV show titled Caroline et ses amis in 1994, which is most likely the source Togashi got the names for the Royal Guards from (and you can find on youtube!) {x} {x}
Neferpitou x Pitou
Pitou is one of the 8 animal characters in Caroline. Pitou is a panther, and he appeared in a collection called “Les Albums roses” (The Pink Albums) in 1952, which were a precursor to the Caroline books, thus making Pitou the first character of the future Caroline series. Pitou is characterized as being lazy and cunning.
In HxH, our Neferpitou was the first of the Chimera Ant Royal Guard to be born, just as Pitou was the first character that began the Caroline series. Both of them being a cat is also a very obvious connection that both share. While there are other cats in the Caroline series, Pitou being a panther harkens to Neferpitou’s wild nature. Caroline’s Pitou being both lazy and cunning are character traits that show up in HxH’s Pitou as well; we see them exhibit extreme intellect in science, military strategy and manipulation, but at the same time they are the most playful of the Guard and get distracted very easily.
Shaiapouf x Pouf
Pouf is a white kitten that wears a blue bowtie. He is characterized as being elegant, snobbish, and eccentric. He is prone to going on rants about his dreams of greatness, much to the annoyance of everyone else, and he has little quirks such as hating water and the cold.
If it weren’t for the physical description, you might have thought I was describing HxH’s Pouf- he too is elegant, snobbish and eccentric and often goes on long, intellectual rants, which are mostly never followed by the rest of the guard. Shaiapouf is also always wearing a flowy white dress shirt that features a bowtie-like collar which is reminiscent of Pouf’s white fur and bowtie. While Shaiapouf isn’t known to hate water or cold, he does manifest peculiar quirks such as melodramatic monologues and playing his violin when he is upset.
Menthuthuyoupi x Youpi
Youpi (also spelled Yupi), is a cocker spaniel dog. He is naive, turbulent, and a little bit grumpy, but also generous, devoted and affectionate. He can be fearful and prefers staying home to going out on adventure. He really likes being cuddled by Caroline, the main character.
Menthuthuyoupi in HxH displays a lot of similar characteristics to his namesake: naive, turbulent, and devoted are all adjectives you could use to describe him. Because of Menthuthuyoupi’s lack of ego, he is solely devoted to the King and his divine destiny, not bothering to give a thought to other courses of action, which could be a reflection of Caroline’s Youpi prefering to remain in the safety of home. After Meruem’s revival, when Youpi and Pouf share a affectionate spiritual bond with him, Youpi is shown to cherish the new bond he has with his King, just as Caroline’s Youpi is affectionate towards Caroline.
~~~
One thing that all the Royal Guard share with their Caroline namesakes is that both sets of characters unquestioningly follow an independent leader character that they love and support. As well, in the case of Neferpitou and Shaiapouf, their manner of dress is a homage to Caroline- Pouf dresses in a very elegant and frilly ensemble, very French of him, in my opinion- and Pitou’s outfit is reminicent of both an old school French military uniform and a child’s school uniform.
A bonus Caroline homage in HxH: The titular character Caroline is famously depicted with her pigtail hairstyle. A certain blind Gungi player is also famously shown sporting a similar hairstyle.
Bonus Section: Meruem’s Name
Although not containing as much lore as his Royal Guard, the King’s given name can give us a few fun tidbits in keeping with the etymology of the Guard.
As you know, in-universe, the Chimera Ant Queen states her son’s name, Meruem, to mean “the light that illuminates/shines on everything”. His name is very close to the common Arabic name, Maryam (مريم), which has multiple romanized spellings. The most notable use of this name is in Biblical history as a form of the name Mary, who was the mother of Jesus, and Miriam, who was the sister of Moses.
It is thought that the name might have roots originating in the Egyptian language; the words “mry” (beloved) and “mr” (love) are thought to have been derivatives of the name.This root meaning would work in portraying the love that the Ant Queen had for her son, even before birth.
Other scholars have thought that the Hebrew root words “mr” (bitter) or “mry” (rebellious) were the basis of the name in the case of Miriam, as she was born at a point in history when the nation of Israel was subject to bitter slavery by the Egyptians. “Bitter” and "Rebellious” might be words you could use to describe Meruem, at least when he is first introduced to us. {x} {x}
Other fun tidbits: Meruem’s characteristic “neutral” face expression, young and feminine facial structure, and characteristic “cat eyes” is very reminiscent to a lot of ancient Egyptian art. One that stands out in my mind is the famous Head of Nefertem statue, found in the tomb of King Tutankhamun, which depicts the Pharaoh in question as a child in the form of the god Nefertem (remember him?). Interestingly, both Meruem and Tutankhamen were kings that ascended the throne (and died) very early in their lives. I’ll let you look at the piece and notice the similarities yourself!
~~~~~~
And that about does it for all the conclusions I’ve drawn. I hope you enjoyed reading through this and that it prompted you to do some reading and research of your own! Togashi chocked HxH full of fun little references to things in our real world, and it’s so much fun to do a deep dive to find all this trivia. If you think of/find any other fun things too add to this post, feel free to reply/reblog with additions. Cheers!

✶ 𝐇𝐗𝐇 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐒: 𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 & 𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒, 𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇 & 𝐃𝐀𝐌𝐍𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 Long story short, I have been thinking about this for wayyyyy too long now and wanted to get some ~thoughts~ & analysis written down! This post is going to be...fairly long, lol. Apologies in advance :D
Also, if you can’t see the last gif (the one for ‘holy’), click here. Tumblr keeps fucking up the image when i try to upload it :////
This post is probably going to be about 2/3 yorknew & phantom troupe/kurapika focused, 1/3 chimera ants, maybe with some references to other arcs (including manga-only arcs) mixed in. so, ofc, tons of spoilers ahead! also, i realize that my blog theme is hard to read (and i’m p sure clicking ‘keep reading’ sends you to the og post itself), so i’m linking the post w/ full text copy/pasted in on my art backup side blog (which has a more legible font) here.
✶ 𝐃𝐄𝐀𝐓𝐇 I’m sure absolutely nobody is surprised with me starting here - there is just. SO. MUCH. DEATH. in hxh. & right from the start, one thing I noticed that togashi really emphasized was the #4 and its connection to death. in japanese, chinese, and im p sure some other asian cultures the number 4 is pronounced like the word for death so it’s associated with death in general, and boy oh boy does the ‘deadly number 4′ thing show up E V E R Y W H E R E. we get to the hunter exam, and hisoka is applicant #44. kurapika is #404. i didn’t notice it at first, but this was so intentional holy shit. togashi is NOT SUBTLE.
So pika & hisoka are, right off the bat, associated with death. okay. and then there are even more clues to drive the point home: hisoka is member #4 in the phantom troupe, kurapika’s birthday is april 4th (aka 4/4). 100% not a coincidence (!!). with hisoka, it’s pretty obvious why togashi’s throwing all this death 444444 stuff around - dude is a psycho murder pedo clown, literally gets off on killing people (and there’s also the fact that judas sits 4th from the left in the last supper painting, and he’s sort of the judas equivalent for the phantom troupe). with kurapika, though, it’s a bit more subtle and woven deeper into his characterization, which i LOVE. togashi puts the mans in blue & gold & white (traditionally ‘pure’ or ‘heavenly’ colors), makes him so fucking kind & so good-hearted.....when he’s not relentlessly pursuing his revenge, ofc. more on this in the next section, but pika = death. togashi has made that v v v clear.
Backtracking a bit to hisoka, though, I also just wanted to point out the 4 is death symbolism in the fortunes too (GOD i love the fortunes): in one translation, he’s the false fourth moon, and in the og japanese (i think), he’s the false hare (4th in the lunar zodiac or w/e it’s called. i don’t know the japanese cultural influences here, but in the chinese legend that established the zodiac animals, they race across the heavenly river & the top 12 animals got zodiac slots. the hare finished 4th, so it’s #4 in the cycle).
And just as a final note, Tserriednich is the fourth prince of the kakin empire, and also another dude who has a hard-on for murder & other gory shit. again: togashi is not subtle with this, lmfao
✶ 𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐘, 𝐔𝐍𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐘 As probably everyone who’s gotten to yorknew knows, togashi is so 0 fucks given when he wants to be. I mean there’s the whole thing where he just. took New York and decided, Yorknew. LMFAO, but also, he made the main antag of that arc be named chrollo lucilfer, sit around in a ruined church, have a reversed cross coat, pale & dark-haired/dark-eyed, generally dressed in dark colors, very terrible murder guy. liiiike......chrollo x devil symbolism game is 1000/10 at this point lmaooo
And i know absolutely nothing about christianity in general, but pt/kurapika & yorknew arc is just so full of christian imagery/symbolism! one thing that i L O O O O O O V E though is how togashi really blurs the traditional christian-coded good/evil, holy/damned boundaries.
Back to kurapika: he wears gold and blue, his coloring is very stereotypically ‘angelic’, he’s precious and good and kind. his chains are all about ~judgment~ and ~healing~ - some of the chains are also in literal cross shapes, aren’t they? And the chain dagger in his own heart...the imagery is very startlingly similar to the immaculate heart of mary, where the swords stabbing thru the heart apparently represent seven sorrows. IDK much about this stuff other than the visual similarities; literally had to google ‘daggers through heart christianity?’ to even get the name of that thing LOL. anyway, at first, it seems like togashi establishes him as the ‘angel’, the ‘good’, the ‘holy’ in the angel/devil, good/evil, holy/damned dichotomy between him and chrollo.
But that’s not the end of the story. his entire storyline is driven by a huuuuuuuge giant desire for vengeance, first of all, and then there’s the scarlet eyes, which canonically are seen as demonic/cursed/what have you (according to one of the movies or smth? where they show pika as a 10 y/o?), and then we also have red eyes in modern culture being associated w pretty much the same thing (vampires, anyone?). the fight scene with uvo has everything in b&w besides the blood on his face & his red eyes & the moon (<<< more fortune foreshadowing & symbolism, i love to see it), and there are tonssss of scenes where he has to suppress his rage. so all of that is obviously not very angelic of him i would say LOL. in fact, what i find super interesting is that the scarlet/red eyes (which are ‘demonic’) is actually the driving factor behind his super powerful nen abilities; this ties in so well with the fortunes & death associations imo! the fortunes call him the ‘death-bringer’ in one translation, or ‘half-angel, half-death’, so that’s one side of pika = red eyes = death, but there’s also the fact that emperor time is literally draining his life force. so pika = death for both himself and others namely the pt, question mark?
Now for chrollo: togashi’s devil symbolism is EXTREMELY overt with him, but i love the subtler jesus references too. the church thing, obviously, and the st. peters cross which is cuz st peter respected jesus too much & didn’t think he was worthy to die in the same way as him (or something like that, i am the most atheist person in the world & hxh is literally my entire christian education pls) but is also used as an anti-christianity symbol these days. bandit’s secret looks like a bible, lbr, and mans has a cross tattoo.
Other things beyond visuals - 12 spiders, 12 apostles; hisoka’s betrayal, where member #4 can be thought to correspond to judas sitting 4th from left at last supper. and this miiiiight be a bit of a stretch, but i think the meteor city being the place of origin may also play into the blurred line between angel/devil and holy/damned here; meteors are defined as space rocks that are in earth’s atmosphere, becoming incandescent in the process. meteorites are for the kinds that actually reach the ground. and idk, lucifer was cast out of heaven / sky too right? so i think there might be some subtle fallen angel imagery/symbolism playing into the pt as well
✶ 𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 (𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐊𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐒) Last section yay! i don’t have as much to say about this, besides when i was making chimera ant arc edits & realized that there might have been some subtle gon/meruem parallels???
So obviously, everyone knows that line killua says to gon - “you are light” - and then i was just remembering that meruem’s name means.... “light that illuminates all” (!!!!). maybe it’s a coincidence, but knowing togashi, i’m leaning towards nahhhh. there HAS TO be some kinda meaning there (!!).
Going back to the events of the chimera ant arc....ooh boy. let’s see: gon is optimistic & hopeful even in the face of kite potentially being dead, killua says he’s light, they find kite & dude is fucked up, gon is pissed. gets all angry & ~dark~, especially during the palace invasion when he’s staring pitou down as she fixes up komugi. then the actual fight against pitou: more darkness, more anger, but through it all there’s still light, namely his jajanken being very orange & fiery lookin.....and that final sequence, where he puts all his possible nen he’d ever have into his ~final form~ or wahtever & turns into a male version of true form!bisky but dressed in a crop top & short-shorts (i am SCARRED, btw. s c a r r e d !). there’s just huuuge flashes of light as that’s going on, and it reminded me of supernovas or dying stars when i was thinking about it, where the star is like, collapsing under its own weight? & burning thru its own fuel, until there’s nothing left except a dwarf or black hole or what have you. one final, extremely deadly burst of light & energy before death.
On the meruem side of things: born into a dark cave, exhibits a traditionally evil/cruel/wicked/whatever personality/traits so that has ppl associating him with darkness. then he gets to know komugi, starts to appreciate other aspects of humanity, seems like he could have actually turned into a decent person who doesn’t want to eat everyone - so that’s a ‘path to light’, maybe? - and then the extermination team yeets themselves into the palace, netero takes him out to bumfuck nowhere, they fight. netero’s fighting is just ALL light, from his giant ass golden 100-type guanyin bodhisattva to the poor man’s rose. again, there’s the sense of finality to it all, in a similar vein to dying stars: netero comes in determined to kill meruem no matter what, and we all know netero doesn’t flake. then we see netero get destroyed after the zero hand, and he triggers the rose, and everything is burning & on fire before the flames are put out and all turns dark again.
But wait!!! pouf & youpi revive meruem and all he does is play gungi with komugi, even with the poison of the rose. he eventually dies, and the gungi pieces in that final shot of them together (i am BAWLING just thinking about it holy shit) has one that’s all white, one that’s a black ring and white inside. i assume all white is for komugi, who has never done ANYTHING wrong in her LIFE, so i like to think that the 2nd one is for meruem - born “into darkness”, literally & figuratively, but he turns something like ‘good’ by the end. it’s interesting how togashi has sort of gone for a bit of a subversion here: the hero going from light to darkness, and the main antag from darkness to light.
✶ 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐋𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 AahhhhHHHHHhhh so if you read all the way down here through my LONG rambles, tysm! i would LOVE LOVE LOVE to hear what other people think about all this, and i’ve FOR SURE missed tons and tons of stuff - chimera ants is just. SO MUCH. and i don’t know it as well as yorknew eeek.
I’m not sure if i’m really ~knowledgeable~ in any other areas relating to hxh, so this might be the only one of these that i do, but i definitely think about some of this - esp all the religious symbolism & #4 stuff - a ton! so in the meantime, if it’s of any interest, i’m just going to shamelessly plug my hxh x religious beliefs/superstitions edit series :D lots of love to all!!!

“I don’t thank my friends” : HxH meta.
I think everyone in the fandom was a bit confused when Killua blurted out of nowhere to Ikalgo that "I won't say thank you next time something like this happens". I know I was left a bit confused as to where that came from. Sure, Killua's point stands, friends shouldn't need to thank other friends because it's normal to help each other. But why did Killua create this "i don't thank my friends" rule seemingly out of nowhere, and if he doesn't thank his friends, why did Killua thank Gon before parting ?
To me, it has to do with his sense of self and his feelings of unworthiness to stay by Gon's side.
I wanted to explain my take on this matter, so if you're interested, enjoy your read !
EDIT: hi, once again, my past comes back to haunt me..... i wrote this meta post a while ago and i don’t really agree with what i wrote anymore. i feel like the main reason Killua thanked Gon was because he felt like they weren’t friends anymore, because he doubted his place next to him and felt like Gon didn’t consider him as a friend. I wrote a post about this so I invite you to read it if you’re interested, but basically, Killua feared Gon only saw him as a teammate, as an acquaintance. But he still wanted to thank him for everything he did for him before parting, and technically speaking, if Gon doesn’t consider him a friend, then he could thank him while still not breaking his rule...So in my opinion, Killua thanks Gon because he thinks Gon doesn’t consider him as a friend, so he’s not breaking his rule while still expressing the gratitude he needed to express.
With that being said, if you’re still interested in my old pov on this subject, then enjoy your read! But please take everything I say below with a grain of salt, because like I said, I feel like this is not the real reason Killua thanked Gon before parting.
In CAA, we saw Killua develop an intense devotion for Gon, putting Gon above anything else and going through hell to make sure he can be of help to him. But those newfound feelings of love and devotion towards Gon only made his sense of self-worth plummet. How could someone like me stay alongside someone so bright ? If Gon is light itself, does that make me darkness ? How could I ever repay someone who has changed my life so drastically for the better ?
Killua never felt worthy of staying by Gon's side, and his sense of worth comes from how useful he can be to Gon. That's why in Greed Island he sacrificed his hands to help Gon, that's why he's constantly making sure Gon gets his way in CAA, and that's why his last dying thoughts after having faced the Ortho siblings would have been "I'm sorry Gon, I couldn't be of any use".
The "Gon, you are light scene" highlights pretty well how Killua views himself compared to Gon. To him, Gon is light itself, he shines so bright that he can't look directly at him. But is it still okay to stay at his side ? Is it okay for someone like him, someone born in darkness, someone whose past is so shameful and who could never ever bring anything positive to Gon to stay by his side ? Isn't it selfish ?
Of course, we saw in CAA that if Killua thinks there's ever the slightest chance his staying with Gon would put him in danger, Killua wouldn't hesitate to leave. That's why when Bisky tells him that he will ultimately leave Gon to die, he decides that it's best to leave Gon.
But at the end of the day, Killua doesn't want to leave Gon, ever. Gon is his ray of sunshine, and even though it's selfish of him, he can't help but want to stay by his side forever.
Those conflicting feelings of not being worthy enough for Gon but still wanting to stay by his side are what leads him to ultimately break free from his family's control and removing the needle when faced in a very high-stake situation.
After the removal of the needle, Killua feels free, and feels like maybe he isn't as weak as he thought, and maybe there's the slightest chance that he could stay by Gon's side. But to him, to stay by Gon's side, he has to earn it.
All of these thoughts about his self-worth, all of his self-deprecation and feelings of unworthiness of staying by such a bright person's side are a factor into why Killua refuses to thank his friends. Killua is projecting his insecurities onto his other friends. Let me explain.
We saw Gon thank Killua twice in the manga. The first time was on Greed Island, when Gon thanks Killua for staying by his side even though he has the choice to leave and do his own thing. Killua is EXTREMELY flustered by this sudden burst of affection.
The second time is in CAA, after Killua takes Gon to safety after their encounter with Pitou. Gon thanks Killua for saving him, and tells him that what he did was the right thing. Once again, Killua is very flustered.
Now, we all know that Killua did all these things because he loves Gon and cares for him a lot. He's staying by his side... just to be by his side. He has no other reason to follow him around other than enjoying his company. All he wants is to stay by Gon's side, and that's all there is to it.
But when Gon thanks Killua, it makes him feel like absolute crap. In his own words, "it's nothing special to help your friends". Killua went to Greed Island with Gon because he wanted to, not because he was under any obligation. Killua saved Gon from Pitou because he loves him, and saving him was the NORMAL thing to do.
So when Gon thanks him for these actions that Killua CHOSE to do, it makes him feel like Gon doesn't realize that Killua is doing all of this for HIM. Not out of any obligation, not out of some sort of moral code of friendship, Killua is doing this because it's Gon, and he wants to do these things for him.
To Killua, Gon thanking him is like he's not acknowledging his feelings of being there for Gon only because it's Gon. Killua is desperate for him to acknowledge the fact that he's here for him. When Gon thanks him on Greed Island, and he's extremely flustered, he's probably thinking something along the lines of "no need to thank me, i'm here out of my own will, i'm here because i want to stay with you". And Killua is DESPERATE for Gon to realize that all Killua wants is to stay with him.
The second time Gon thanks him, same thing happens. Killua saved him because he cares for him, so why is Gon thanking him?? It was something he did out of his own will, because he loves Gon, because he's his best friend and he wants to keep him safe so there's nothing to thank him for it was a NORMAL thing to do because he cares about him !!
Killua wishes Gon would see that he's doing everything he's doing out of love for him, that he's doing everything he's doing because it's a normal thing to do, so please, please, please there's no need to say thank you. That it's not something special to help him, he's literally just doing it out of care for Gon. He's desperate for validation and recognition that everything he's doing is out of love for Gon, and his lack of self-worth makes this issue even worse. If Gon is thanking him for normal things, then that certainly means he must not value him as much as Killua values Gon.
CAA Killua struggles a lot with his self-worth and how much Gon truly values him. Maybe he doesn't value him as much as he thought, if he's thanking him for normal things friends do for each other then maybe to Gon they aren't even truly friends. Sprinkle Killua's blossoming feelings for Gon, and the entire Palm situation and Killua's jealousy in regards to that, and you get the mess that is Killua's sense of self-worth.
So when Killua meets another friend, he projects his feelings onto them, and creates this rule. "I don't thank my friends, because it's normal to help each other out". This is projection at its finest. Killua WISHES Gon would never thank him because everything he's doing is normal. So to compensate, he projects these feelings onto Ikalgo, and eventually Palm. Everything he's saying, about how friends don't need to thank each other because helping each other out is the normal thing to do, are projections of what he wishes Gon would realize. He wishes Gon was the one to never thank him for normal things.
It's hard to pinpoint exactly when Killua realized that he was just as important to Gon as he is to Killua, but I truly believe that when comes the time to separate, Killua knows how much Gon cares for him. He knows that he's the most important person in Gon's life, and that Gon is extremely grateful to have him by his side.
He also realized that Gon knew that he stayed by his side out of love for him, and not because he only wanted to help him find his dad. Gon knew of Killua's devotion to him, knew that Killua did everything he did only because it's Gon, but he still decided to thank him.
And Killua realized that the reason Gon thanked him wasn't because he didn't acknowledge Killua's feelings, but it's precisely because he knew how much Killua cares for him that he decided to thank him.
Killua thought that Gon thanking him was a sign that he didn't recognize how important Gon is to him. But it's the literal opposite. Killua doesn't have to stay with Gon, and Gon knows that. That's why he's constantly expressing how grateful he is for Killua. Because thanking him for normal things is the best thing he can do to express how grateful he is to have Killua by his side.
And that's why Killua's rule of "I don't thank my friends" crumbles, and he thanks Gon before they part. Because Gon knows that everything Killua did for his sake was the "normal thing to do", but yet he still thanked him. And if Gon knows how deeply Killua cares for him, but still thanks him, then surely he can thank him too. Because it's important to show appreciation for things friends do for you, even if they're deemed "normal things to do".
TLDR : Killua's "i don't thank my friends" rule is him projecting his feelings, sparked by his lack of self worth and his need for reassurance concerning his place next to Gon and his need for validation and acknowledgement of his new-found blossoming feelings towards him. (he pretty much just wishes gon would understand how much he loves him)
#hxh#hxh meta#meta#my posts#i am once again probably reading too much into it but its ok#killua's rule always bothered me for some reason so i tried to think of the most logical explanation#he's just a lil baby in need of recognition and validation from gon#killugon#my meta

part 1- Wait now that I'm on a HxH roll, I remember something. Do you think that, narratively speaking, Pitou is redeemed ? They got really selfless and protective of Komugi at the end, and everyone seems to think so (and I'm just feeling sorry for Pitou), but there's a parralel in CA arc that make me think it isn't the case, narratively. Both Killua and Pitou are incredibly protective/caring about Gon and Meruem respectively. And went to great lengths to do it, are 100%ready to die to continue
part 2- continue protecting Gon/Meruem.. And there’s even the Pitou-Komugi/Killua-Kite parrallel “it’s an important person for the person I love, and if they died the person I love would change/never recover”. But there’s also something else I remembered. The Killua vs Ikalgo fight. Ikalgo is estabilished as a threat (Killua can easily kill him but he did get damage and get lured into a trap), an ennemy really loyal to the Chimera ant side, and he was at the mercy of Killua and still firmly
part 3- on the ennemy side, Killua had absolutely nothing to gain by letting him go and by how loyal Ikalgo is, he’d definitely be an ennemy attacking his side again next time from Killua’s POV, there’s always the chance Ikalgo might harm Gon (since Gon isn’t untouchable ). But he emphatized with Ikalgo and did not kill him, and even threw him out of way of danger with his yoyo. Pitou get the same choice, while Gon is having his mental breakdown because of something Pitou has done and at the
4 final - the mercy of Pitou, he can hypothetically potentially be a threat to Meruem on the future (he’s not and Pitou can easily kill him). Pitou while Gon is still down decide to heal their arm and kill the little boy having a mental breakdown just in case. At the time he was still busy having a mental breakdown and blaming himself, and only pulled a Gon-san when Pitou told him she’d kill him. So in that situation, Killua spared Ikalgo and got saved by him, and Pitou didn’t and got decapited
sorry real final part - Basically Pitou was unable to connect/care about anyone other than Meruem and it was their downfall. While Killua befriended Ikalgo (and Palm and a lot of other people) despite everything and that’s the real difference between them
Oh i completely agree with everything you say!
I personally don’t think Pitou was redeemed in any way by the narrative tbh and you’re entierely right that the way their story was handled is a parallelism to how Killua handled his own storyar this season - both “natural born killer” with undying loyalty, but Pitou only extended it to one person and eventually what that person would want, while Killua extended it to more people.
I really don’t think Pitou is redeemed in anyway because there is no guilt, no attempt to be better, no nothing: Pitou just has one goal and stuck to this goal until the very end. If anything they learnt that they had to be serious about it and couldn’t keep playing with their prey or they would create themselves unnecessary enemies, but in no way it is a redemption of sort.
Sure they grew - they grew enough to at least warn Gon, to take him seriously, to not just kill him without a warning like they did with Kite.
But that’s not redemption, that’s just growing up.
The thing is that meanwhile in the story Pitou is just a few months old and had the strong gene of their animal counterpart (the “playing with your prey” part) that was much more of an instinct that their humanity.
If anything Pitou is memorable because we know the Three Royal Guards were all extremely loyal to Meruem, but they all were in very different ways: Pouf was loyal to the Original Goal of Meruem’s existance, Youpi was loyal in term of how to physically protect him and not exactly bother with the details of what that implies, while Pitou was loyal to what was important for Meruem’s individuality.
And it’s the development of those brands of loyalty that is especially interesting especially in comparaison to Killua who had shown kinda those three loyalty toward Gon? Trying to keep him focused on his goal, always physically protecting him, and wanting to emotionally protect him.
Out of the Three Roal Guards Pitou ultimately was the only one who cared about what Meruem actually wanted. So it already paints them in a more sympathetic light.
Personally this is one of the reason i felt a lot of pity toward their death (along with the fact that Gon suffered a lot from it and had no happiness in this revenge, only more pain). That at least, to a level, for one person, Pitou was able of empathy.
But again : that’s in no way a way to redeem them. It adds layers, it makes feelings more complicated but that doesn’t change anything about Pitou’s actions and the narrative doesn’t try to pretend it does.
So yeah else i’m 100% with you with your development so i can’t add much to that. Pitou is a fascinating character but not exactly a redeemable one. Just… kind of a carcrash in slow mo where you know that they’re the ones who pulled the brakes for it to happen just because they wanted to have fun.
If all of this makes sense kdjhf

Also, no hate from that. I just like debating. You're argument actually made me go rewatch a few pieces of some episodes.
I’m going to go through each of your arguments that you submitted.
I’m going to go with the stereotypical answer of “Everyone reacts to trauma differently”, but hear me out. This argument is based on the assumption that Killua viewed his upbringing as “traumatic”. From what we have seen, this is far from the case. Yes, he is aware that it’s messed up and not the “norm” for other families, but it was the “norm” for him.
When it comes to trauma it doesn’t matter whether you think it was traumatic or not (when we’re talking about the long-run and subliminal/subconscious behaviors). Your behavior will be affected regardless.
There are many, many people with PTSD or battered person syndrome who downplay their experiences or don’t even acknowledge them as traumatic whatsoever. Recognizing that trauma was, well, trauma is the first step to recovery. But knowing that what you went through is traumatic isn’t a requirement for the symptoms linked to the trauma itself. Part of the reason why people actually end up going to a therapist is because they have signs of those symptoms even if they haven’t acknowledged the event that caused them was traumatic: flashbacks, self destructive behavior, nightmares, etc.
Also, there is a certain threshold of pain that pushes your sanity in general and electrocution can definitely take you to that point whether you acknowledge it as normal or not. Even if Killua believes on a conscious level that it was the norm, on a subconscious/primal level people have reflexes or intrusive thoughts that would be stationed there after being tortured to that type of extent. You know when people talk about how their parents used to hit them, so whenever someone would raise their hand for a high-five they would cower or suddenly flinch, jump, or they would seem a little panicked? It’s the exact same thing. Still, there was no effort put into these types of small details when it comes to Killua’s character.
We see in the Zoldyk Family arc that despite being trained to not feel empathy, Killua is trying to make to make friends (specifically in the flashback with Canary). He differs from his siblings because he has the natural inclination to actually want friends (specifically his own age). When he meets Gon, it comes off as passive curiosity (perhaps a little bit of envy as well) at first. Here’s this kid that’s not only his age, but can also keep up with him during the exam. This kid also is like a ray of sunshine and has friends surrounding him.
No offense but if you are literally trained from birth to feel zero empathy and you’re forced to murder people then it’s pretty damn ooc to try and make friends and empathize with other people. I don’t think you’re really understanding how heavy the weight of killing other people is as well as what that can do to you as a person, it doesn’t even matter if it’s normalized. That kind of radical behavior instilled in you as a child changes you. It alters you. You, and the rest of the fandom, aren’t understanding that you don’t come out of a childhood as brutal and violent as Killua’s with the desire to “make friends.” It just doesn’t work that way.
Killua was a killer, a murderer. In that type of environment, the empathy is literally cut out of you. There is also no real given reason as to why Killua is the only person in his family who differs and has empathy which doesn’t make sense. If he’s the heir and if his family wanted to make him cold-blooded and ruthless, they would’ve done it. Your point is great when we’re putting all realism aside but we aren’t. The whole point of the post that I wrote was “hey if things were actually realistic for 2 seconds in Hunter x Hunter then how would Killua have really been impacted by his past?”
The case with Bodoro was not due to dissociation. Killua was under Illumi’s control at the time, which also makes sense as to why we don’t see anything similar throughout the story. Killua doesn’t interact with him until he returns for Alluka (at this point, Illumi can’t manipulate him anymore).
Dude… Bodoro’s death was like a single tiny example of how dissociation could look like and how the show would have been better if Killua had more scenes resembling that one where he’s dissociated. It wasn’t even one of my points.
I went on to say: “if Killua did have issues with dissociation, he should have had more times when he would have dissociated to that level during certain times of stress (perhaps feeling trapped against stronger enemies would have been a perfect time to trigger that type of dissociation).” There was no argument that you gave for that.
On the contrary, I think this shows who Killua is under the control of Illumi vs who is he without being controlled by Illumi. Bisky points out that Killua’s anxiety was a product of overbearing love, which isn’t wrong. Illumi placed the needle in Killua to protect him (good intentions, poor execution). Which leads me to believe that Killua did not have thehesitation when facing stronger opponents, despite the years and years of training and conditioning that taught otherwise.
Also, after removing the needle, while he does gain much more confidence, he doesn’t quite do a complete 180. He still has enough common sense to knock Gon out and get the hell out of dodge when they’re faced with Pitou.
You are completely missing the entire point.
I never said the needle scene was a bad scene in general. I never said any of the panicked scenes with Killua were bad. The topic of the whole post was as follows: “My problem with Killua Zoldyck is that I personally believe that his response to the trauma from his family isn’t portrayed as significantly as it should be.” The reason why the needle scene with Illumi fucking sucks is because Killua’s insecurity…had nothing to do with his upbringing…it was a result of the needle that was taken out and suddenly it was all better and he felt no anxiety like before when it came to challenging stronger opponents.
Instead of his self esteem and terror regarding larger foes being a problem that could be worked through, it was taken away in an instant and like I said, it had nothing to do with his upbringing. That’s the main problem.
I don’t even know what you’re trying to say or what you’re trying to counter because I’m pretty sure you misunderstood what I said.
Also saying he “didn’t really do a 180″ is absolute nitpicking. Obviously he didn’t become the literal opposite of what he was before, a 180 is a figure of speech. I was trying to say that there was no linear or visual progression between:
> losing his fucking shit while going against Rammot
> and being completely confident against every single damn Chimera Ant fight after Rammot
Also, full offense but “He still has enough common sense to knock Gon out and get the hell out of dodge when they’re faced with Pitou” is a trash point considering Killua knocked Gon out in Episode 85 and Killua actually tore the needle out in Episode 94.
So.
Yeah.
This goes back to my point stating that there are points in Killua’s past that show his training (at least the emotional side of it) didn’t take as well as his family wanted it too. Him running away from home in the first place is a prime example of this. He even says that he didn’t want his entire life planned out for him. Problem child? Absolutely.
Reread what I said in response to your second point. It’s pretty much the same response and I don’t feel like copy-pasting it again just to make this post longer.
However, if you look at the timeline of these things occurring, you’ll notice that Killua still hadn’t completely acknowledged that he wanted to be Gon’s friend. At this point, it was still kind of a “Oh, you’re neat. I’m going to see how this plays out” type of thing. The more he is around Gon, the more he wants to be “worthy” of his friendship.
In conclusion, it all comes down to the fact that despite how many of us would react to growing up as Killua did, there are plenty of situations that one person would see as traumatic, but the one actually living it is completely adjusted to the situation. It’s just how things are. Just because it is pointed out by several other characters in HxH how horrible Killua’s upbringing must’ve been, doesn’t mean Killua is scarred from it.
I think I’m frustrated now that I’m at the end of this because you completely missed almost all the points I was trying to say. Also I think “Just because it is pointed out by several other characters in HxH how horrible Killua’s upbringing must’ve been doesn’t mean Killua is scarred from it” might be the saddest thing I’ve read all day.
Because I literally never ever said that Killua is scarred from his past.
In fact the entire point of the damn post was that Killua wasn’t scarred and he should have been because realistically if you’re raised in a household full of a bunch of assassins who force you to murder people and torture you with electrocution, beatings, and God knows what else for over a decade then you would be scarred. Killua was clearly not as scarred as any actual human being would have been after coming out of that situation.
You can’t be like “well it’s debatable if you would get scarred or not haha” because that’s complete and utter BS. It’s just not realistic in any aspect? Like I said, even if you completely dismiss everything else that happened to Killua and just settle on the fact that he was electrocuted for years during his childhood you can’t say that someone wouldn’t be traumatized from that.
Do yall even do research on electrocution torture?
Do yall even know how numbingly painful that is?
Electrocution torture alone has the capacity to give you brain damage, and straight from Killua’s wiki it says: “As a child, Killua was trained to endure large amounts of electricity. His older brother Milluki often electrocuted him for training and punishment. As a result, he is able to withstand high-voltage electrical currents while retaining his full mental and physical faculties.” It says “high-voltage” and in the first sentence it says “trained to endure large amounts of electricity.”
I can’t believe yall are gonna tell me with a straight face that a human child being electrocuted and tortured wouldn’t be mentally scarring. That’s so wild.
#long post //#hxh#noah fence dude but#maybe you should reread the post#because most of your points weren't countering the same topic as mine#it was like we were talking about two VERY different things#analysis#zeal writes#areecepeace#asks#killuacourse

HxH ep. 122-124 Reflection
The Chimera Ant arc has been really hard for me to get through. The pacing has been..... for lack of a better word wack. Before we got to the palace, far too much time was spent on fights with unimportant side characters and/or training. I love Knuckle, but his training with Killua and Gon didn’t need to be multi-episodic. Same with Bizeff.
Now that we’re in the palace, my main complaint has been that there’s a lot of telling rather than showing (the narrator butts in wAy too much every single fight). Splitting up the fights between so many different groups inside the palace made the first 10-15 eps of the attack hella slow, and it felt like no single group actually accomplished anything.
That being said, I think slogging through all the eps to get the set up has set up 2 really cool things for the endgame:
1. The climax of these fights, whenever that FINALLY fucking haPpEnS, is going to feel SO GOOD bc the tension will finally be released
2. The interpersonal and individual growth that’s been building from minor characters to more major ones is beginning to pay off in a MAJOR WAY.
Youpi respecting opponents even if they’re human is pretty major when you consider how the ants started off. Ikalgo and Welfin’s fight made me emotional in a way i still need to process. And I’m VERY excited to see what happens with Komugi and Meureum. The biggest payoff for me so far tho is definitely Killua learning how to communicate his emotions. It’s such a logical growing point from removing Illumi’s needle. I dislike Palm, and found her earlier episodes annoying, but the fact that Killua recognizes that someone (who Killua himself hates!) is important to Gon and opened up to her to try to save Gon pain, causing him immense emotional pain in the process, is true testament to his growth! and of course, this line made me WEEP.
I’m excited to see where this goes. I hope this sinks in for Killua, that he gets a chance to have a heart to heart with gon. I’m also hoping Netero loses the fight against Meureum, bc I’d much rather see Meureum and Komugi centered interactions again than Netero win. I’m predicting Pitou is going to get killed soon, which makes me super fuckign sad (shes my favorite ant besides Ikalgo) but I also don’t see where her arc could go besides dying for a human (even if it is just to show full loyalty to the King). I’m doubtful Kite will get healed.
#just jill's stuff#hxh#feel free to respond/message if u wanna talk about the arc! no spoilers pls#pls no spoilers tho!#ive only watched up until the scene with Killua and Palm

I've actually spent a lot of time thinking about this, especially whenever someone deemed Gon as "a bad friend" or "toxic" and so Killua "deserved better" ( I honestly want to bitch slap every one of those people, but eh, wishful thinking )
I mean, I think people tend to forget that we, as viewers, have more information and a better understanding of the situation than some of the characters. Of course, this does not apply to every anime or show for that matter, but there are plenty of cases and HxH during the Chimera Ant Arc is a prime example of this.
I'll be frank, this phenomenon I've observed is usually present in visual media. And it's obvious why. When you read a book you follow the story through one or more characters' eyes, but movies, TV shows etc. give the viewer an omniscient position from where to observe the story while still following a cast of main characters as to maintain a sense of familiarity.
This problem blinds us from putting the extra information we have in the context within the character's perspective.
Here is the deal. Gon is eager to express his feeling and opinions. Killua is not. So it makes sense we would get more looks into his mind than into Gon's. Why would you need to see what a character thinks if they are just going to say it a moment later?
Killua is more restricted with his feelings and especially his affection. We need that extra information from his side to equilibrate it with Gon's up and in your face admiration and care.
Tell me, if the dodgeball scene, the needle scene, or the Gon-san scene had happened without any of Killua's inner monologues prior to them, would those scenes have had the same impact? They ceirtainly wouldn't have been bad, but I doubt they would have had the same amount of feels~ or so to call them
As I was saying, becuase of our omniscient position many people forget, that as gut wrenching or happy squealing as those Killua's thoughts are, they are just that in the story. Thoughts. Things not voiced aloud and remained unknown to the other person.
This might be speculation on my part, but I think all the Killua sympathy ( And don't get me wrong, I love my sons equally some of their fans are just annoying ) and by extension the Gon bashing comes partially from the Shounen trope of having the protagonist ( or any character really ) gain appreciation through flashbacks and monologues. Mostly used in fight scenes.
In HxH though, this doesn't happen to Gon, like at all. And again, why would we need it to? He's an expressive individual, words and body language alike.
Instead, the trope is given to the one who does need it. Killua.
Because of this, people associate our lack of insight into Gon's mind as not understanding the character, when in all fairness, he is a simple guy. By simple I don't mean not complex, "simplicty =/ compexity" is a false claim, but Gon's not the type of person to have "1000" motivations, conflicting thoughts, etc. When he deeply feels something, he makes it his core and follows it unlfinchingly. For better or for worse.
Finally, I'll get to one of Gon's feelings on the more "conflicting" side of the spectrum. I don't see it that "conflicting" honestly becuase it's been there since day one and it hasn't changed and Gon has never battled it. Ok. I want to rectify and say that by not battling is that he himself has never acknowledged its existence.
His self worth.
Anyone who denies that Gon has confidence problems after telling Killua that only he could sacrifice himself, not the other way around, blaming himself for Kite's death and pretty much throwing his life away to obtain redemption through the fight with Pitou can go rewatch the anime.
And, I repeat myself, becuase we saw what was on Killua's mind during those moments and in the aftermath, despite being very obvious what Gon was feeling, he is getting "shit he deserves". I guess...
As OP mentioned and I explained, Gon doesn't know how much Killua truly treasures him. It's hard for Killua to open up about this and he hides behind the occasional sass towards Gon to prevent his embarrassment and fear of losing his first and best friend from showing.
Coupled that with Gon's pre-existing self worth issues and yeah...
In conclusion, both love each other very much, but are also idiotic kids who forget that communication is an important part for every friendship.
Both are guilty for not being more open to the other and both will learn from this.
Wow how much did I write.
does it ever really sadden you when
you realize that gon never knew how much he truly meant to killua because all the iconic moments and monologues were…well, monologues. I may be being overdramatic but what if gon thinks that killua is just killing time by escorting him and is not emotionally invested in the relationship they share? I mean gon wouldn’t really overthink it that much but he probably noticed the conspicuous signs. legit ilkago , rammot , illumi , hisoka and palm all figured out how invested killua is and gon probably didn’t. don’t know about you guys but I’d like to slap some facts into gon

Hey! I was just wondering if you think that Killua was consciously aware he was in love with Gon? Also when do you think was the moment he fell in love with him (consciously or unconsciously)? Thank you for all your hxh posts!! You’re truly a blessing
Hi ! Omg i can't thank you enough for this ask because i wanted to make a post about it but really didn't have an excuse to do so so this is PERFECT THANK YOUUUU
I'm gonna start by answering the last part of the question. To me, the moment Killua fell in love with Gon is during that "Gon, you are light scene". It's such an emotional moment for Killua, because he had just run away with Gon, ripping him off his father figure out of what he saw was cowardice. He felt weak, he felt angry at himself for running away and letting Kite to die. Kite's team and Netero's team bashed him the entire day, telling him how much of a disgrace he was for leaving Kite behind, thus reinforcing his feeling that Gon would never forgive him.
But the first thing Gon does is thank him. Such a small thing, but it means that he was never angry at him for running away. Gon is the only one who supports Killua in his decision. And when Gon tells him optimistically that Kite would never die to Pitou, that's when Killua falls in love. All at once. Because not only did Gon thank Killua and support him, he was also his light in the darkness, and he admired his optimism in this situation.
Because how could someone shine so bright in such a desperate situation ? How could someone be so utterly positive that nothing bad would happen ? And it makes Killua RESPECT (emphasis on this word because i'm gonna highlight it later on) Gon even more than he did before. Because Gon is light, he's always been light, and this specific moment of despair and self loathing on Killua's part was saved by Gon's shining positivity.
To me, there's 2 reasons why I believe this scene is the exact moment when Killua falls in love :
- It's a pivotal moment that introduces Killua's blind devotion to Gon, and this scene is the most emotional scene between Killua and Gon. It's a scene of complete admiration for Gon, and Killua comparing him to light is so emotional that i truly believe this is when he fell in love.
- This scene is followed by pretty much something that canonizes Killua's love for Gon. In the manga, this scene is immediately followed by the introduction to Palm's character. The first thing she does is take the two boys to a coffee shop and proceeds to monologue on how much she's in love with Knov. Here are the panels :
Remember how I talked about Killua respecting Gon ? Palm emphasizes that fact, the fact that respect is important in love, and that's exactly what happened in Killua's situation.
Right after that monologue, she stops talking, takes a sip out of her cup, and then suddenly tells Killua (!!!!) that "love can suddenly spark out of nowhere, don't you think?"
The panel only features Killua and Palm, Togashi made the conscious decision to draw Palm facing Killua and Killua ONLY and telling him that love just happens, right after the "Gon, you are light" scene. This emphasizes that yes, Killua fell in love with Gon at that specific moment.
It's not a coincidence that those two things happened right after the other. Togashi is GALAXY BRAINED, and what Palm is saying is empty dialogue, it doesn't make the plot progress : the purpose of this scene is to parallel Killua comparing Gon to light itself in the previous chapter, and Palm picking Killua on the side to tell him that love can happen out of nowhere is Togashi paralleling those two situations to tell us readers that from this point on, Killua is in love with Gon. (which is easily proven after everything he did for Gon during CAA)
Now, onto the rest of your question, sorry if i was long, i get very carried away hjdbfj
The interesting thing about Palm's monologue is that it emphasizes the fact that love and feelings are messy, and it's hard to figure out what you feel. It’s better highlighted in Viz’s translation, so I’m putting the panel below for reference :
“I only admire him. It’s not love or anything... But I’m not certain of that either...” - I believe this can be applied to Killua’s situation too.
At first, I don't think Killua realized that he was in love with Gon. Killua is 12, has never had any friends or any kind of social life prior to Gon, so it's not like he has a lot of experience to rely on. Add this to the fact that Killua has also never known affection, it makes it logical that Killua doesn't know how to classify those new feelings he has towards Gon. He doesn't know what normal friendship feels like, he doesn't know what love feels like. All he knows is that Gon is literally light itself, and that there's nothing he wants more in life than to stay by his side forever because he makes him extremely happy.
Killua doesn't know what those new feelings are, he just wants to stay by Gon's side forever (as he says in the date talk scene - where he says that he doesn't care about dates because he wants to stay with Gon), he doesn't want to lose him (as he says when facing rammott), and that he'd rather die than to live without him (during the palace invasion)
I think Killua's character arc during chimera ant arc is him slowly realizing those romantic feelings towards Gon. We see him put his life on the line multiple times, just for Gon's sake. And when Killua sees that there's nothing he can do to help Gon anymore, he decides that he won't let him die alone, and makes the choice to die alongside him.
Killua didn't realize what those feelings were until he thought that him dying with Gon would be a shinjuu (lover's suicide). He knew that he had an intense devotion to Gon, and that he'd do anything for him, and when he thought that the best situation that would describe him dying with Gon would be a shinjuu, a heavily romantically connotated word that describes lovers who die together by the same way to be able to spend the afterlife together, it pretty much confirms his suspicions that there's something more.
And to me, that's the culmination of Killua's CAA character arc. That's the moment that he realizes that yes, those feelings towards Gon are romantic, because him dying with Gon would be a lover's suicide, because he loves Gon so much that he's willing to die with him out of love.
I think all this confusion on Killua's part is why some people don't know if it's extreme best bro behavior or love....
It's because it's just as confusing to Killua as it is to us. First love is confusing, and Killua doesn't know why he's acting the way he is, he doesn't know if it's natural best friends behavior or if it's love.
That's why Togashi doesn't explicitely state that Killua's in love with Gon, and that it takes a bit of reading on the subtext to understand that it IS.
It's because if Togashi put it plainly, by having Killua think explicit romantic thoughts towards Gon, it wouldn't be as realistic. It's a conscious choice on Togashi's part to paint those feelings as messy, because feelings are messy and confusing, especially when you're an ex-assassin with no previous social interactions who’s experiencing new feelings towards his best friend of the same gender.
Thank you so much for this ask I hope I could answer the question ! (and i hope i wasnt too long aHHHH IM SO SORRY I GET SO CARRIED AWAY TALKING ABOUT HXH)
#ask#meta#holy shit i got carried away im so so so sorry#i hope it still was a good answer jdngjksndg#hxh#hxh meta#killugon#my meta

what you think of killua I think he overrated yes he had great character development and trying his best being good brother to alluka but I hate when I point out his flaws I'm get called out for being hater like people find it cool dishing hate to gon but when I've points out killua not as perfect as they tell everyone they make me feel like the bad guy
Oh nonny….
… okay under cut because there’s a bit of salt. Just for info before that I love Killua, and i don’t think he’s overrated at all but ye I have some. Bitterness to talk about.
I can’t blame you to be completely frank. I love Killua, I really do, and I completely see why people relate to him or at least feel a lot for him. His storyline is great, he has a wonderful development, and since he’s the character we hear the thoughts of the most, he’s also the character we, as the audience, tend to trust and love a lot. And we can therefore see things from his sides of things.
Killua was my second fav when I first watched the anime but I admit now i’m probably interested the least to him, out of the main four. Which was mostly a fandom reaction ye.
I wouldn’t go as far as saying he’s overrated, but there’s no doubt he is the fandom’s favorite character (again, for good reasons that are perfectly understandable, i love Killua too) but it can be brought at the expense of the others characters, especially Gon.
At some point, I was seeing so much hate toward Gon after the CA arc I couldn’t help but feel extremely bitter toward Killua. I became extremely judgemental of a lot of things he handled wrong. And it’s true people seem to overlook those flaws a few time.
After multiple rewatches and re-read though (and mostly trying to be as disconnected as possible from that part of the fanbase) I found back my appreciation for Killua.
He’s a complex character, who fucks up sometimes. And his fucks up are understandable. Most of them are rooted either on his reaction to the abuse he grew up into, or into the most unhealthy part of his devotion for Gon.
The thing is that, I can’t blame him. His childhood was traumatizing, Gon became everything to him, and he was a kid, and all he handled wrong in the CA arc were his attempts at making it right, but ultimately failing because of a lack of comunication that he didn’t know how to bring up, and the fact he’s just a child who just recently got into that whole “caring for someone” stuff, a child put into a war situation, and a child who completely lost control of a situation he thought he could handle.
I honestly can’t blame him, even if he did wrong.
I love Killua. He’s a multi faced character, with a lot of interesting and deep moments. and some fucks up here and there that we can completely excuse, because he’s a kid and he’s still learning.
And like I said he’s a relatable character, he’s the character we hear the most thoughts of, so as a result, the audience connect much more with his point of views of things. Hell, we barely ever hear Gon’s own thoughts in comparaisons, especially in the CA arc when things go wrong, so while Gon’s suffering is obvious, Killua’s is voiced and often pointed out. Which imo, is great, because the hardest blow of Gon’s storyline was of how much he internalized all of this and isolated himself, only for it to collapse completely on him.
So I can’t say i find him overrated. He’s great. I understand why people love him. I love him. For his ups and for his downs. And I guess even more than before because I had to relearn everything I ever loved about him.
But it’s also true the fandom has a major bias toward him. Which again, I understand, he’s a popular and likeable character. The problem is when it demonizes the other characters because they don’t treat Killua the way the fandom would want them to.
All those “Gon is toxic and abusive” rants are extremely misguided. I saw people get mad at Gon because he doesn’t know how much Killua loves him, that he doesn’t know Killua is ready to die for him, that he almost died for him (which like… why you’re mad at Gon for not knowing while it’s Killua who never, ever told those things? Gon can’t guess. Gon and Killua already have a lot of unsaid understanding, but at some point you can’t expect Gon to pick it up all the time, especially at a time he was emotionally unstable.)
And tbh, for diehard Gon fans, it can be even harder to hear, because say, when Gon snapped at Killua against Pitou, it was after a long while of everyone, including Killua, telling him to focus only on killing Pitou and only that. Killua legit says a few minutes later that Kite is a “magic word” (read, trigger word) to stop Gon, and he used it on Gon before Gon snapped at him. Killua knew he was trying to use Gon’s affect to calm him down, and he was right. He had to calm Gon down as he could. But he used something he acknowledge himself as traumatic for Gon to get that, and it’s no wonder Gon turned it back at him at that moment.
And the worst part? It was the fault of neither of them. Things are just complicated like that. Things don’t have easy answers, things are hard to handle. They were children, forced into a war, left alone bathing into their respective trauma, never being taken care of by anyone who could, only with people who always used their trauma to push them forward, pushing them both into unhealthy patern neither could exactly overcome on their own.
HxH is a great manga because nothing is black and white, and the situations are tragic for everyone involved.
But the fandom bias can be extremely frustrating.
I never exactly tried to adress Killua’s flaws because I don’t exactly feel like discussing about it. He’s great, don’t get me wrong, but i’m sure many, many other people have a better judgement on him that I would ever do. And besides, I find his storyline to be the most self-explainatory of the manga. And if not, a lot of other, more qualified people, can tell you a lot about Killua in a way i couldn’t do it.
So I understand the frustration with the fandom’s bias that ends up just throwing shits at the others characters.
But also………………
I know that a lot of fans actively acknowlegde those flaws and just don’t like it when other people point it out because they don’t know if it comes from a place of love or a place of distain and dislike. I personally have this problem with Kurapika, while i find him not only understandable but also relatable, I have a lot of interests in his flaws, and I often joke or call him out about it, I can be really critical of his actions.
But if I see someone throw bad stuff about him out, if it’s not worded correctly, if it’s not clear they have an affection for him, I can get extremely bitter and biased. Because I l just don’t know if they mean well, or if they are completely disregarding the rest.
So at the same time, I understand the fans’s defensiveness when one points out the flaws of a character they love. People are willing, for the most part, to admit the flaws of the characters, they just need it to be presented in a way that doesn’t seem like you’re ignoring everything else about this character for that.
so it’s a really hard subject to talk about, especially for me who couldn’t stand to see Killua for a few months after too much people using him as a weapon against other characters.
Now, I personally made peace with how I was seeing Killua, and I really love him a lot. Can’t say if it’s as much as before, but I really do love him, he’s important, he’s a great character with great development, with great qualities and great flaws, he’s extremely important for people, and imo he’s extremely important for people who had to overcome familial traumatic experience and abuse, because Killua is a wonderful representation of someone who suffered a lot from what his family wanted from him, and a good representation for how a character in this situation is able to heal, recover, to find a better place, to take their time to look for what they exactly want, to come at peace with themselves, and most importantly, which is extremely important for abused children, to be able to see that the way your parents treated you doesn’t determinate your worth and it doesn’t mean you’ll be like your parents when you grow up.
For that and for more reasons, I can’t say he’s overrated either. He’s a fantastically written character, and he deserves the love he gets.
I would just prefer if this love didn’t come with a bias against other characters or completely ignoring his flaws.
As much as I try not to, fandom bias can make me dislike a character that I love if you keep pitying them against a character i like more or a character i have very strong feelings about.
I always loved Gon, less than Killua at first, but I considered all that shit the fandom pulled at Gon to be so unfair it accidentally backlashed on Killua. And I was aware of that. I was completely aware that my distain for Killua came from how protective I became of Gon and because of how the fandom used Killua against him.
I just tried to hold on to not let the fandom ruin something I genuinely love and care about. Even if I have to not actively look for Killua’s content anymore and by being extremely picky about the kind of content I want to see coming from him.
At the same time, ye i can understand fandom’s defensiveness. But it’s not cool that you get to feel really bad about it ;;
SoI guess that’s my opinion on the topic? Rather controversial i suppose but well, it happens.
Take care!!
#ichafantalks hxh#ichasalty#welp here we go#idk if i'm being clear enough so i don't want to start stirr or drama either#and i don't want people to think i dislike Killua because of that because it's not true#and I like discussing Killua#just... I try not to engage too much with it in general#but oh well#Anonymous#ichareply

So! New sessions with friends! we watched from 105 to 117! So we watched the first part of the attack on the castle session, from Knov infiltrating the palace up to after the “Since it’s none of your business” scene and Knuckle coming back to fight Youpi!
A. is Her, T. is Him.
-A: “I’m trying to avoid the spoilers of your blog. It’s hard it’s like Hisoka avoiding Gon’s punch. So far all i know is the last thing about Kurapika, it was hard to ignore… i know Leorio is getting some place with i dont know what and Zodiac stuff, i dont know what it is. and i know Meruem died like he lived: heterosexual”
-T: “Knov’s plan is good… but it’s as tight to play as that other guy’s thong.” T: “….. it’s gonna end up on tumblr right?”

- A: “Don’t bother going with a plan against the King, just play gungi against him until he rips all his limbs. like Gon, don’t fight him, just tell him to jump off a cliff and he will”
-A, at Pouf: “arent you done being the third wheel”
-A: "It’s not easy for Youpi to be with both Pouf and Pitou at this point…”

-As the king is giving the order to lift the En: A" “hes a moron. but he makes it easy for everyone…”
-A: “I’m just saying that if you let them all three more weeks, the king will tears away all his limbs, Pouf will kill himself and you’ll just need to stop the selection and the other two and everything will be fine. or Youpi will end up killing Pouf because he can’t stand the violin anymore”

-T: “it’s fun because after all those slowmo the opening of the episode is like at normal speed”
-A: “i don’t mind the slowmo. they make clear that it is because too many things are happening at once. although i do hope it speds up a little…”
-they find Youpi disgusting and they yelled “no” when they thought he was gonna kill Morel
-they really like Morel and Knuckle and Shoot and when Shoot hit Youpi to get Morel’s weapon, they cheered and want them to be safe forever
-Me: “it’s interesting how killua kept telling Gon to stay focused on Pitou but still go out of his way to protect Ikalgo while Gon stays motivated, you would expect the opposite” A:“tbh i dont care as long as the octopus is okay”
-when Killua kills the guy to protect Ikalgo, T: “you call that supressed their ability to fight, I’m calling that murder. he overkilled.”
-A: “Pouf kinda looks like Kurapika.” Pouf: *acts dramatic* A: “okay no never mind”
-A: “no but Pouf is pretty and it’s a fucking butterfly I’m jealous”
A: “couldnt they teach him another music to play with his violin im.”
-Narrator: “pouf is at the limit of fanatism” T: “ye, on the other side of the limit, he’s totally into it” A:“i’d say he’s in love”
-A: “i almost pity Pouf” T: “well he’s the least cruel one..”
-as Gon sees the king A: “no Gon!! it’s too big for you!!”
-same scene: A: “i don’t like Gon’s look… Killua if you want to knock him down it’s now”
-T: “A DRAGON. I always side with the dragon. *sings* calm on my dragon ”
-in the “let’s go” scene: A: “i dont like Gon’s look… i dont like Killua’s look… I’m so scared of what’s gonna happen it’s… scary.”
-A: “i don’t like the idea that they’re gonna have to chose if they want to kill Pitou and Komugi or not… I don’t like the idea they’ll be in the same room as Pitou anyway…”
-A: “Pouf is a fucking pokemon”
-Narrator: “Shoot fights recklessly withot caring for his life” A: “at the same time when you learn from Gon…”
-T: “let’s be real tho we’re just all waiting for the fight between the king and the sensei”
-A, at Welfin: “i… honestly don’t know what to say about that thong tho.”
-Gon and Killua just arrived in Pitou’s room. they are scared at Gon’s eyes
-Killua: “Pitou is like a mother protecting her kid” A: “*immiting Killua* “oh the complete opposite of mine”
-as Gon’s eyes are empty: T: “he’s really scary…” A:“he reminds me of illumi…”
-They are seriously scared for Gon. now they understand why i’m upset the anime removed Kite. They realize from what I explained that it was a stronger blow for Gon and the audience to know Kite from the start.
-The “since it’s none of your business” scene just happened. (also it was well translated in the French sub version so yay). They are. speechless. but they react the same way i did the first time, ie, more worried for Gon’s mental state than anything.
-Gon: “I’m fine” T: “he’s not fine”
-We discussed a bit about Gon’s and Killua’s mental health so far and development and they really agree with me. they are concerned for both, since eventually it would have been solved if they talked, since neither talked about their troubles up to that point. but they feel for both of them and see how this happened, and i didnt have to argue too much about it, I’m glad.
-We rementioned the gi arc. T: “oh the good old times where the only problems were bombs.” Me: “Do you get now why i laughed when A. said the gi arc didnt have lot of stakes” A: “now we have them……”
-They miss Kurapika and Leorio still. we all agree it would have been better at least for the kids’s mental health if they had been there…
-T: “why the FUCK Zeno is coming back home by feet”
-Cheetu teasing Zeno, saying he’ll fight against Zeno, A: “no but i almost feel bad for cheetu seeing how unfair and unballanced it is”
-they gasped as Silva arrived. A. had her hands on her mouth in amazement. A: “that’s not even an ability it’s just summon the son”
-As Shoot and Knuckle talk about going back to fight Youpi : "they have... a really misplaced pride"
-Shoot: "Please hit him for me" T: "no no you misheard he said bring me to the hospital. go see the octopus" A: "I know an octopus, he knows a guy"
So we had to stop, and it was... amazing. They were invested in the fight, understood the struggles, and are truly looking forward to more, it makes me happy!
It was a nice day dkfjhf

New session with A. and T. o/ this time from episode 92 to episode 105, we advanced a lot in the CA arc!
this time I took notes as they spoke so I have... Tons of stuff.
-A: “I’m scared to move on…. we’re at episode 91 and the arc already went to shit so bad i’m worried at how bad it’ll get”
-they forgot who kite was. they had to remember by saying “guitarist legolass”
-T: “The queen shouldn’t be proud of the King i mean it’s a fuckboi, look at that turtle on his head, it’s the shape for a a fuckboi”
-A: “Leol looks like a drummer in Kite’s band”
-A: “I wonder if it would have gone better with responsible adults” Me: “i think that’s why Leorio and Kurapika aren’t there. wait… maybe not Pika.” A: “i love Pika but he’s not what I’d call collected and responsible. Leorio tho...” -T: “I’m sure Hisoka would have flirted with an ant if he could. or ate one. its like chicken”
-they say they have no pity for the queen ahah. They are WTF over the other baby.
-they got so sad at Gon and Killua crying
-T: “Why is there pipe on a strip tease” A: “there’s a cat a butterfly and a turtle trying to dominate the world and you question the choice of music?”
-A: “It gets so bad already and there’s still 30 episodes of that arc how bad can it gets…”
-A: “the only responsible adult of that arc is Killua and he’s neither an adult nor responsible”
-When Gon said he’d do anything for Palm after she said she wanted him to date her, T. spit out his drink and A. facepalmed in a pillow, both laughing “i cant deal with that kid anymore”
-A: “does Palm has any other ability aside of being creepy?”
-A: “the thing with Gon is that you never know if his ideas are genuis or terrible” T: “you especially dont know when he says “it’s a secret” if he knows what hes gonna do or if he doesnt”
-When Killua asks Gon about his dating past: T. “that… became really gay suddenly” Me: “do you get why people say Killua is gay?” A: “Now yes.”
-A: “The presentator on tv has weird eyes…” T: “now she can see in 3D”
-A. at Palm and Gon’s date: “i relate to Killua… what a cringe…”
-T. at the date: “and let’s play my favorite game: what if we added hisoka to the situation?” A.: “im sure him and Palm would get along”
-they yelled at Killua remembering Illumi because of dissociation. they’re worried for him
-A., who loves classical ballets, told us that the Zoldyck’s theme is based on a romeo and juliet music
-A.: “When the zoldyck music plays, it always end up bad for the adversary…” T.: “It always end bad for everyone in that anime. except for Hisoka and Gon’s father. i dont even remember the name of that asshat.”
-After the date, as Killua and Gon shares Chcorobots, A: “Thats it i cant take it anymore i ship them. they are too cute i cant resist them”
-A, as Cheetu vs Morel and Knuckle starts: “this arc is such a mess i love it it goes so wrong”
-when gon was faced to Kite’s puppet , they started yelling about how no one was stopping him. when Gon started blaming himself, A. threw a hairtie to the screen in frustration. they are worrying for Gon now, feels like he’s losing it. they worry that the adults are using him. like they say “i dont care their reasoning, we’re talking about 12yo. they never saw what gon can do while angry he risked his life on a dodgeball game. it’s dangerous.”
-A: “dont tell me they will put rhe two unexperienced kids as a team…”
-They are overjoyed to see the Troupe again. A. wanted a showdown between the ants and the troupe. “at least i wont mind if there’s death on both side”
-They are disgusted by Pike and they dont get why Zazan is all dominatrix.
-“the goth team and the clear hair team”
-A: “i understand why you say Shalnark is probably linked to Kurapika, they have the same (lack of) survival instinct”
-T: “nice to have some anthropology exploration with that mummy guy" about Beleonov
-A: “wait is Phinks’s condition really to only turn his wrist? he didnt think too hard about it, and Pika whos putting his life on the line like a moron….”
-A: “im sure kite’s nen was Ging’s idea. it’s a thing with Ging’s idea, it seems terrible and you dont even know if he would himself believe it’d work but it does”
-Feitan against Zazan: “thats violent…”
-A: i dont know what to think of that arc anymore. i dont even know what to comment.
-about Kalluto: “it’s killua’s LITTLE BROTHER??? HOW OLD IS HE. 10??? WHY IS HE WITH THE TROUPE”
-“are Feitan and the Mummy in a contest of who is gonna blow up the biggest planet”
-*seeing the kimera* “is that nina”
-A when Phinks blushes when Shal and Feitan makes fun of him for looking for Chrollo: “do everyone has a crush on Chrollo holy fuck”
-T: “When it’s to the spiders to be in charge of lifting the weight of the arc….” A: well we wanted responsible adults, we got them”
-A. finds impressive how that deep ib the arc, the story is still coherent. the ants are all exploited and you dont feel lost in the substories. she finds it impressive
-Me: “fun to have a geopolitic story in a furry arc” A: “i wonder what the next arcs will be. will there be a cooking arc” Me: “i mean, isnt it the cooking arc? “ A: *splilling her drink*”… you know what i dont say anything anymore”
-A:“… was the Queen on drugs when she created Shaiapouf?”
-A: “i think i hate (pitou) more than hisoka…. i mean hisoka, you get used to him. she…. is too unsettling and sh’es too cute it makes me uncomfortable” T: “well i mean… hisoka is a p/edophile…” A: “i mean true but at least you can predict hidoka, she replies to orders. you can discuss with Hisoka, not with her. Like how Pika talked with him” Me: “well then with Pika it was all on Hisoka’s intend...” T: “well you can discuss with him if you’re a teen” A: “Okay true but you can have an ally with hisoka at times. with Pitou, nah”
-T “now i thought hisoka was coming” Me:“if he was in this arc he would have had the boner of the century” T: “thanks Chloé”
-when Gon trusted Meleoron right away “what the fuck with that kid. me too Meleoron”
-when Ikalgo appeared in that first corpse and started singing, T started laughing and loving him and almost spilled his drink, and A. burried her face in a pillow saying “i dont even know what to say anymore…”
-as Killua catches ikalgo: A-: i love this kid T: me i love this octopus omg
-as Ikalgo says he wanted to be a squid: A: “how can it be that fun, that wtf and that tragic at once?”
-T: i really love that octopus A: i really love that kid
-T is determinates and really really love the octopus :’)
-the darts game started and A . started to pull very worried faces
-When Gon says he will kill Meleoron if he betrays him, A:“this kid really scares me…. he always scared me.”
-they’re cheering as Killua won against the orsos bros and faked his death
-turns out T. plays darts too so as Killua was explaining how he survived, he kept figuring how it made sense
-they were tense as Killua almost died and they both left out a gasp as Killua apologized about not being of use for gon
-they adore Ikalgo, both of them and now they worry he’ll die
-A. keeps reading Meleoron as Melanchon, a french politician she doesnt like. we compared that politician to Leol
-A. saw Komugi and gasped because “oh no i saw her on your blog”. I’ve been yelling at her to stop looking at my blog and her reaction was “but I’d have to stop using tumblr!”. rood.
-T.’s mother walked in after a scene with Meleoron and with the King and she started laughing, not understanding what was going on, just surprised by the designs. she finds the plot about the games to be fun ahah
-Morel just told Cheetu he lost because hes an idiot and they both applauded
-at the King trying to destabilize Komugi and failing T: “well it’s turning against him hes getting destabilized” A: “she controls him so much”
-When the King ripped his own arm, they both gasped and A. froze and yelled “WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED”
-A: “the king is acting reckless and hurts himself… sounds so much like Gon.”
-A loves how Komugi is in total control of the King ahah
-Me at the king's arm being ripped: "hxh and the constant abuse of arms". A. "ye i saw your posts about it. im still baffled by how much of them belongs to Gon"
For the most part, they seemed to like it! A. Kept repeating it was such a mess and she loved how much of a mess it was. It was getting worse and worse and they are seriously getting worried about the situation at hand.
They are really, really involved in the arc and I’m so glad. For a lot of people I dragged in hxh (and.. me included to some extend) the ca arc was the hardest to get into, and I’m really glad they’re enjoying it that much.
They are looking forward for more and are impressed to have gone this far in the serie.
Despite the fact we skip opening/ending/previews (not my own will, they really don’t wanna see them dkjfhd shame for the previews but oh well) they keep singing the opening theme too. That’s fun :’D
So ye, a good session, a ton of fun, they liked it :D
See you all in another session o/

Sooo here we go another hxh seance!
(again, Her = A., Him=T.)
We watched from Colt’s birth to the King’s birth, we stopped mid episode on that latter.
-They definitly find the CA arc far more intense so far, and consider it already went downhill. I quote “Children are dead, the queen is losing control over her soldiers, the soldiers are losing control between each other, Ponzu and Pokkle seems to handle the situation so far but it won’t seem to last, and on Kite’s side they are doomed to go downhill because Gon is with them”
-They are still thrown out that none of the other three (Kurapika, Leorio and Hisoka) are in there. They think Hisoka would have fun being part of his own, while they actively argue that Leorio would be the only one with common sense and with some survival instict he could help the other with.
-A. Wants a showdown between the Ants and the Troupe and T. wants a showdown between the Zoldyck and the Ants.
-When it comes to the Troupe i find absolutly hilarious that they barely remember their names but remember Feitan, Chrollo, Machi and Shal at least. Nobunaga is also one of the name they remember but they keep stumbling on it. Meanwhile, I mentioned Phinks at some point and A. didn’t remember who I meant so i said “the guy Kurapika hang off the phone to” and she was “aahhhhh yes, his real impact on the serie.”
-They want Hisoka to show up, just because at least, there’s worse than him in front of them, and regardless of who gets hit, you will cheer anyway. They argue Hisoka’s only quality is that at least he’s the only one to be like himself.
-They called Kite “Legolass” or “The Guitarist” during the full episodes. They love his weapon system.
-They were really grossed out by the ants we met in NGL.. They are cheering to see the Koala again.
-*when Gyro’s backstory started* “Gyro killed his dad.” A: “Well that was completely for free *the backstory happens* A: “ye nah he deserved itn is hxh having a contest for who is the worst dad?”
-They expect Gyro to come back and play a bigger role later.
-When Killua, Kite and Gon fought against the ants from the Lion’s team, Gon’s way to destroy the ant had A. go “this kid scares me”.
-As Pitou appears: “wait so Killua with Cat Ears is an actual character and a villain?”
-They were disgusted by Ponzu and Pokkle’s death. A. especially dislike when you kill couple, so she was upset. They found it really terrible
-When Pitou attacked Kite, they were horrified, but they cheered on Killua’s reaction, they considered it was best to do this this way.
-They were really glad Gon was asleep when Morel started talking to Killua about what they should have done, as they think it would be the kind of things to encourage Gon on a bad path
-When Gon woke up after the Kite attack and immediatly thanked Killua, T. jokingly said “but no homo”. But as the scene kept going, when Killua started to look at Gon the way he does, they went “oh.... he has it bad....” and as soon as he started the “You are Light” sequence, A. actually stood up and grabbed T.’s arm as she went “oh no this is ways too cute!!” T: “Killua is actually in love there oh my god” A: “So this is serious Killua is!! really in love!!” They are not exactly the shipper style, they don’t make shippy comments a lot, and a few times before, they did comment on how Killua looking at Gon was sweet, or how some scenes were really sweet between them and joked a little about it. But there, they were reacting really seriously to the scene, and A. even confirmed “Here I completely see what everyone is talking about when they say Killua is in love with Gon”. I’m s o g la d
-They are not sure if Kite is really dead or no, but they are worried of Gon’s reaction if he comes to learn about it considering how determined he is to save him.
-They are glad Bisky is back!
-They don’t really know what to think of Palm yet, she scares them. They find it neat though that she’s supposed to be an ally while her design is frightening and that say, Hirn, the girl staying at Hyaga’s side, looks super cute while she’s an enemy.
-But they fell in love for Knuckle when he started to cry when Gon and Killua went to fight them, and when they saw all the dogs around him.
-Meanwhile the first reaction while seeing Shoot was from A: “He has no eyebrow.....”. They laughed when they realized he was scared to fight the kids but were feeling pity for him. Meanwhile his power kinda scares them.
-Before the fight against Knuckle, there was a huge conversation about “how can you guess when you put 50% of your strength in your blow, how can you be sure you didn’t put 70% or something”. Once Knuckle’s power was revealed, they couldn’t stop laughing.
-When Shaiapouf appeared, T. went “oh but he’s pretty though, like, he’s kinda cute.” while A. went “this is going to be so troublesome” and I still laugh about it.
-They are really glad to see Netero fight. They say Morel’s fighting is to Smoke Weed while Knov’s is basically Portal.
-They consider Killua to be the most rational when it comes to fighting, but Bisky’s lessons about it made them a little reconsider, and they worry a lot for Killua since then. A. made notice tho that she had the same mindset as Killua when it comes to his reasoning in case of trouble.
-They find Bisky’s way to encourage him understandable but not appropriated and it would just hurt Killua more. When he reacted to Bisky’s “you’ll let Gon die”, T. went “Look at his face it’s too painful for him to hear”
-Also when it comes to Killua’s mental health, A. is getting more and more worried because she realizes what Killua is going through but he never adresses it, and so now, it makes sense it’s adressed, but since he keeps it quiet it makes it even more painful to see.
-The King appeared finally and A. Freaked out because she sees my blog and was sure he was an ally or a good guy, so she seriously didn’t expect him to be a villain, and even less to just kill his owns in the begining. Peggy’s design and the Turtle’s design had been cracking them up since the begining of the arc, so seeing the two of them die horribly had them yell a “oh no!”
-”Please stop killing children why is that happening”
-They thing that there will be a King’s supporter group and a Queen’s supporter group, but we only reached to the moment Colt came to ask for help, and they were just starting to realize a lot of the ants were ready to leave and create their own kingdom.
-We didn’t watch the end of the fights against Shoot and Knuckle yet. A. is hoping Gon won’t pass because she’s scared of what awaits them in NGL.
So as a conclusion, they liked it but are kinda grossed out by the events. They like the new characters for the most part and they still have a lot to see.
We reached up to episode 91, which is so impressive considering they didn’t want to start the serie at first because they thought it was too long and they weren’t used to get into long series like that; But they enjoy watching it.
They are REALLY missing Leorio though and they often bring him up as for how he would probably make sense of the situations at hand in a way that wouldn’t put anyone in danger, and I love them when they do that, I love how much faith they have into Leorio.
So ye that was neat o/
We’ll see more laaatterrr
