The thing is that we were told Tommy would not come back, and for months we were mocked for believing he might

...but he did. He has come back! first for an appearance kept as a surprise for the audience; next he'll participate in the big emergency in 8b when he did not in 8a, and then he'll be in at least one impactful scene in yet another episode.

I do maintain that all signs point to the show gearing up for a reconciliation, but even if they're not, at least they've made sure to give them narrative weight far beyond the 'starter boyfriend' bs. They've said this relationship matters, still.

sometimes I forget that yellowjackets is a horror show and not a cute 90s high school sitcom but sapphic, where the goth loner surprises everyone by going out with the geeky theatre kid, and the uptight christian girl chills out when she starts smoking weed with her stoner girlfriend, and the mean lesbian and her butch are running the girls locker room like it’s a gay speakeasy and their exasperated health teacher/soccer coach has to keep getting them out of trouble and no one gets lost in the woods or cannibalized

I love how Izzy's arc last season was "What is this romcom bullshit I want to get back to gritty pirate stories" and his arc this season seems to be "I changed my mind, the gritty pirate story sucks."

You know, in movies where they get a character to essentially glow up to seduce someone, but then they're really, really bad at flirting? That's Charles, seemingly being assigned by the GPDA to swear, and him essentially becoming a wide-eyed country girl in the big city for the first time during this mission* lmao. He tried so hard to make it look casual, but he practically tripped over himself to bring Max and his penalty up at every opportunity in preparation of dropping the swear bomb and possibly joining him in community service 😭✋️.

something something the way buck and eddie talked around saying i love you in their goodbye. cmon. who doesn't say that when their platonic best friend of seven years is moving away? and there's a reason they didn't say their love you's, obviously. but i also think its interesting that i can picture a sort of 'awkward bro hug/love you man' scene and yet we didn't get even get that. instead we got a blatantly romantic as shit goodbye including the awkwardness of unspoken words and the lingering hug. they really are doing the buddie romcom

when they bring tommy back for eventual bucktommy endgame, i would love to see them be friends for a while first.

it's been a year or so and they cross paths on a call or something. buck has dated a few people, maybe someone semi-serious, none of them stuck. or maybe he's currently dating someone. but so is tommy. buck voices how much he misses just spending time with him and floats the idea of them being friends. tommy is hesitant but ultimately that's what happens: tentative at first, but they become friends.

and in being friends, they get to know each other better than if they were dating. even though tommy knew buck pretty well already, with friendship he lets himself be known better, not so afraid of being imperfect or less than or broken or not enough; he's still self conscious about it, doesn't want to be a burden, but there's no fear of getting his heart broken by evan leaving him, and no guilt of breaking evan's heart, so it's mostly just him wanting to be a good friend so he tries to hide his shit for a bit and not hang out for a week when he's having a rough time.

except: buck notices he's having a rough time and isn't interested in only spending time with tommy when he's happy - he wants to be there for his friend! he wants to help and comfort like he does with all his friends. buck discovers that either tommy pushed his boyfriend away (for now), maybe lied to him so the guy is clueless about how tommy is really doing, or he simply broke things off because tommy is 'too much'. in any case, buck would be livid because 1) this guy doesn't deserve tommy and 2) tommy is hiding himself away during a bad time and that's not okay, buck can't let him isolate himself and think that if he's not perfect he's not wanted therefore no one wants to deal with him.

buck shows up at his house, or maybe finds tommy at a campsite or something. tommy looks rough - it's been an emotionally trying time with family issues or ptsd or a rough work call. in any case: buck gets it, and he's not going to let tommy go through this alone. friends don't abandon each other in their time of need, and no matter how tommy tries to push him away, buck is staying.

buck says all this, earnest and caring and desperate to help, and eventually tommy cracks. he gives in to the need for connection, lets evan in, lets him stay, lets himself be comforted through hugs and letting evan see him breakdown and cry.

and it's not the end of the world. it's actually the start of a new chapter: it marks a turning point in their friendship where tommy is more open about things (with evan, and maybe howie) and buck gets to know him better.

there might be another partner or two for each of them going forward, but their friendship strengthens and inevitably leads them back to love, eventually getting back together and knowing they're both seen and loved in all their dark and ugly beauty.

We Figured Out Where I Heard That Song in Theory of Love Episode 10

This post is mostly for the BL OG's who care about earworms.

Every time I've watched Theory of Love since 2019, I get caught up in the song Ching Ching is singing in her audition for their play in episode 10. Since we had @happypotato48 with us for the Theory of Love Romcom Rewatch project, I got him to help me figure out what song she's singing, and he revealed that it is รักไม่ต้องการเวลา by Klear.

Now that I finally knew what the damn song was, I surmised that it must have been from the first wave of BL, in likely Make It Right, but potentially Love Sick or SOTUS. I asked @troubled-mind, @negrowhat, @ctl-yuejie, @benkaben, @wanderlust-in-my-soul, @absolutebl, and @respectthepetty if they remembered it. ctl-yuejie suggested it must be from Make It Right based on its common appearance on OST playlists, and Josi mentioned tat NuNew had done a cover of it.

Foolishly, I presumed that the song must have been in Make It Right Season 2, so I started there. Let me tell you, after 8 years the overuse of the soundtrack in that season has not aged well at all, and the Book Frame storyline is carrying the show for at least six episodes.

However! Pluem found the song yesterday when I was chatting with him and @so-much-yet-to-learn about it! It is in Make It Right 1x08 at the 39:40 mark when Fuse and Tee are having an emotional conversation by the pool that ends in a series of romantic camera angle kisses.

I am so glad to have this mystery solved so that I can finally rest. Shout out to @lurkingshan, @twig-tea, @solitaryandwandering, and @neuroticbookworm who listened to me mention this repeatedly for over two weeks as I searched for this answer.
