If you are looking for primary sources, the Austrian National Library has a very good digitized collection of both images and newspapers.

If you're looking at secondary literature, off the top of my head:

This is actually a thing that people are working on! California I think?– is legislating that canned food sold in the state has to have more accurate best by/sell by dates, because TONS of food goes to waste now bc people aren't sure if its still good, and throw it away just in case (bc bad food is scary af) iirc its supposed to go into effect in 2025 or 2026.

If its gonna be sold in one state, it's very likely to just ALL be marked like that, with more accurate numbers, just bc it would be more expensive for the companies to just change the ones bound for one state.

First thing's first, the art in this fanbase is so amazing and I know being here has greatly influenced the way my style as an artist has developed. Genuinely so many physical quirks for how I draw the characters were adopted from other artists and it's influenced my non-Hetalia art as well

I've met several people now who have so many great fic and character ideas and I am always hoping their crops are thriving

I love love love Historical Hetalia, and as cheesy as it sounds, there are many things I don't know if I would've explored and I do think that when encouraged in the right ways it fosters such a genuine curiosity about the world around us

I am honestly stunned that I stuck around long enough to get a full canon British Isles fam, and I love how quickly the fanbase moved to give love to these characters!

That said, I also enjoy how flexible the fanbase can be when it comes to interpreting aspects of these characters/changing things like gender or slight variations in their physical appearance (Finland as an amputee was the first time I saw this and I still love that headcanon very much)

The character songs are bangers, La Passion No Se Detiene and Hong Kong Night are still personal favorites of mine

This fanbase has incredible writers and a huge variety of fanfics, not only in AUs but in the genres, too. They keep me entertained (and heartbroken) for days, so a massive appreciation to all the writers!

Generally speaking, the Hetalia fandom is way more open to canon divergence and multishipping compared to many other online spaces. Here, it doesn't even matter if the characters interact on screen; you have the freedom to create those interactions yourself!

This fandom is one of the most creative I've been in! The source material is so versatile that you’ll never run out of inspiration or fresh ideas to explore - I love seeing how people can take the same source material in a variety of direction

I love learning about different cultures and customs through creative outlets like country personifications. You can use the same characters to tell stories about basically anything: language, history, fashion, food, sport, mythology, etc. Literally anything you may have a passion for!

Despite how it may seem at times, this community is incredibly kind and supportive. And I'm not only talking about creators but everyone who contributes with their comments, reblogs and likes! Hetalia is nowhere near to being dead, and it still gives me the same joyful feeling it did 12 years ago <3

another thing that I think would fix 50% of queer infighting overnight: if people understood what "invisibility" actually Means.

people see "this oppressed group has a problem with invisibility" and assume it just means "nobody knows what this oppressed group is," and Then assume "so nobody targets this oppressed group for Being an oppressed group."

when what "invisibility" Actually means is that when this oppressed group faces violence, that violence is swept under the rug (either by being misreported, or not reported at all).

the point of fighting back against invisibility is about allowing people to speak up about the oppression they Already Face and actually be Heard. which can then be used to help people get the support that they need.

so when someone says "this group doesn't experience violence Because all they face is invisibility" they are Actively participating in that invisibility, which then perpetuates that violence by allowing it to continue unseen.

which, of course, gets even Worse when people use this misunderstanding as an excuse to be actively violent towards other community members. to Actively try to suppress other people's voices because of this perception that they must Have It Better because the violence they face is, well, Invisible.
