I probably should have elaborated further but when I said "fully accessible and assisted lives" I was also referring to accessibility tools, not just carers, but when I made this post I was mostly thinking about the kind of disabled person who would rely on writing AI to help them respond to dense, official documents that they needed to respond to but didn't have the energy and/or ability to due to anything from having a debilitating chronic pain episode to intellectual disability. But AI is unthinking and as such might easily produce flawed responses that do not address everything that needs to be addressed (and it also has a bunch of ethical problems). So in this situation it would be better to have more accessibly worded documents and/or people who can help you respond to them (like friends, family and carers).
I do think seeingAI is different from writing AI though because while people have used what might be called "AI" models in tech for decades (like adaptable algorithms and machine translation), generative AI is relatively new and requires large databases and energy to work. From what you've described, seeingAI just seems like a transcription tool to turn text to speech, which seems more in line with pre existing text to speech/translation models than chatGPT.
I wasn't trying to discredit things like you've described that might genuinely help people in ways other services can't, but rather point out that at least with AI writing, it doesn't fully address people's needs and seems like a band aid solution to an inaccessible world.
Bad argument against the "But disabled people need AI" people: "I know a quadriplegic man who paints with a brush in his mouth and a deafblind person who became a Harvard lawyer, disabled people can do anything if they put the effort in."
Good argument against the "But disabled people need AI" people: "Yes, depending on their disability, disabled people may not be able to do many things including something as simple as writing an email because disabilities are, shockingly, disabling. But AI is a plagiarising unthinking machine that churns out standard issue slop and pollutes and exploits impoverished communities which disabled people are disproportionately likely to be a part of. Saying struggling disabled people should just use AI only highlights how few resources disabled people actually have at their disposal and how shitty the few tools they have are. Disabled people should have fully accessible and assisted lives that empower them to do as much as possible. They should have carers and support networks to help them, not shitass nothing machines.

Honestly a Jason and Helena teamup comic could be sooo interesting because they're both Bat related characters who do not abide by the no kill rule and have subsequently gone through cycles of acceptance and exclusion from the other Gotham related heroes, but both also have very different backgrounds and philosophies for their actions, alongside a generational difference as Helena is at least a decade older than Jason. She has a longer and wider perspective on the cycle of unending violence in Gotham, from the old gang leaders she hunts by night to the young, poor kids she serves as a teacher, while Jason is a younger, more reckless man who used to be the exact kind of poor, futureless Gotham kid that Helena works with and for, and whose vision of the city isn't framed just by watching other people be victims (though of course it is that as well), but rather becoming one himself. Helena avenges others deaths, Jason avenges his own. Two different generations of outcast, violent Gotham vigilantes: one who was born into the heir to a prestigious crime family, the other born to parents coerced into buying into the lowest rungs of that criminal system.
Buuut DC has decided that isn't interesting and is instead investing in yet another baffling hetero romance between Jason and a woman over a decade older than him who can and has done better.

The more DC fans aggressively tone police and dogpile disabled people who want Oracle back the more I actively start hating Babsgirl. You know what? Fuck it, let's erase her from continuity. Let's really take her away from you so you know what "downplaying her legacy" or whatever really means. Every ableist babsgirl post is another babsgirl comic erased from existence.

Tumblr media
I’ve seen so many posts like this lately and it’s like, I understand the sentiment to some extent. I get that it’s very annoying when people insist hays code style that media needs to be uplifting and morally correct or it shouldn’t be produced. But I’ve seen this sentiment used to express frustration about any political/ethical/analytical framework being applied to gothic horror like “well it’s gothic horror!! It’s supposed to be fucked up!! Stop analyzing it to death!” But gothic horror, any horror, is about conventional morality. It’s about violation of the boundaries between what is normative, “correct” behavior and what is taboo. Something has to feel “wrong” to us, the viewer—whether it be bodily, socially, psychologically, etc—for us to be scared of it. If everything is permissible and fine, nothing is scary. All horror is a reaction/rejection/affirmation, which is to say an exploration, of the morals a given culture. Like horror is asking moral questions by it’s very nature. To have any meaningful analysis of horror at all “morality” has to be a part of the conversation. And if you don’t want to have that conversation, fine. But it seems like people do, they just want to use the term gothic horror selectively to dismiss things they don’t feel like addressing
Additionally, the word gothic is thrown around so much as if it’s a particular type of horror in which characters are allowed more lassitude for bad behavior which. Like idk the gothic is a very loose genre, so loose some considered it an aesthetic, but it’s not more permissible/less severe in regards to villainy. Like hauntings and the return of the repressed, the consequences of long past actions, is one of the few hallmarks of the genre. Like there’s a genre wide focus on the consequences of misdeeds. If you want horror without having to think about the implications of said horror the gothic isn’t the genre for you

Idk maybe Jon Kent could have been an interesting character way back when but at this point he's just the answer to the question "what if Tom Taylor was crossed with a teenage self assured centrist christian youth camp counsellor employed in the hopes that he can make the church cool to the kids and a 21 year old celebrity who appears to have been made in a factory last year to be the shallowest, most common denominator person possible, has only been in Disney channel and Netflix original movies and has a forever unrealized, unspoken dream of being the white boy of the month" and that's not a question that needed to be asked.

I live in my own little fandom bubble and think "Okay, it's not so bad. I mean it's not great but it could be worse." Then the AO3 end of year stats drop.

No I dont think it's racist to hate robots, I just think it's weird that as a white person you keep trying to come up with slurs for them and describe acts of violence usually directed at racial minorities

Hey btw if you're talking about a real life case of sexual assault, especially against a child or sexualization of children, you DON'T have to attach video/image evidence of it. "I'm only attaching it for proof" it still spreads the material and potentially triggers unwilling viewers.
