Added three more poems (Pygmy & Nawfal, Myth & Memory, Legacy of the Ancients) as well as another flash fiction (Another Side of the Story) to the lineup so I figured now would be as good a time as any to discuss what the heck all these pieces are about.
To start, there are no less than three different versions of King Arthur. The first I'm co-writing with @cynicalclassicist and is set in the same timeline as Scotland's Heir from Volume I (The Two Heirs, Pendragon's Crucible, The Huntsman & The Maid). The second is a modern AU set in the equivalent of the first half of the 20th century (Jenny's Tale, Wart's Tale, Headlines from The Daily Dragon). The third is told entirely through poetry (Legacy of the Ancients, Myth & Memory, Have You Met the Saracen?, Elden War, A Knight's Reflection).
Then, there's the new Mistland material, which includes a follow-up to the flash fictions Rumination and The World Changed While You Slept (Tension) from Volume I, two flash fictions introducing brand-new characters (64432B, The Things We Do For Love) and a fourth flash retelling a scene from Anathema (Part I) but from another character's POV (Another Side of the Story).
Beyond that there's some poetry that ties into a couple of the standalone pieces from Volume I. Namely, Pygmy & Nawfal (which ties into Girl in Blue), I Am Titan (which ties into Promontory), and A Tribute to the Dragonslayer (which naturally ties into The Dragonslayer, which seems to be most people's favorite but not mine). To be clear, you don't need to read these poems to understand the original short stories but hopefully they will retroactively enhance your reading (or rereading if you are so inclined).
The Twelfth Traitor and The Eleventh Traitor are set in an original fantasy setting of my own invention.
Nobody is Worthy is self-contained and standalone, as is the stuff written by Brian (Helical, The Beehive has No Emergency Exits, Youaltetsauitl-tleamanalli, Seaside Ska, Chairs).
The Barren Crease Before Us is an introductory piece to Dwight's post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting.
As I have with Volume I, I will be posting art (and hopefully music) for B-Sides & Rarities once the book is finished and closer to release. In fact, I already have over 50 pieces by more than a dozen artists from ten-plus countries!
I hope this information excites y'all and I really, really do apologize if the book will take some time to finish due to my personal circumstances. That said, please feel free to reach out with any thoughts, questions, or concerns you might have regarding B-Sides & Rarities (or Volume I for that matter!)!
:)
Sincerely, Beyondmistland
Turned 30 earlier this month so figured now would be a good time to formally announce my next book.

Tentative release date: Winter 2025

Broken Hymn to My Holy Mother
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My mother died just a month before the spring I turned 3. I have no memory of her, nothing more than whatever bond was created in those short years together, but I always imagined her as some kind of immaculate figure. (The idea of her I could never quite grasp with both hands, assimilate into myself). For so long, and quite often as of late, I've been reflecting on how her death has shaped me. To say the least, I have always been this profoundly sad child, and never particularly courageous. I think maybe there are some things that I will never be able to do because of the way things went awry so early, and it hurts. With only a father, I've never had a figure that could be quite open about feelings as a mother can. I've never had anyone who could share whatever 'girlhood' I had left. Since her death, I've suffered through an 8 year relationship between my father and an abusive stepparent. It changed me in even more irrevocable ways, and I romanticize the idea that everything would be okay if my mother didn't die. This work was very hard to create, the idea in of itself something I've only tried to write about very few times in my life. It hurt hard and clear to be forced to verbalize a decade's worth of feelings I've had nobody to communicate to. I'm not sure that I will ever really know how to cope with grief; I don't know why or how we are meant to endure this, but I think I understand a little clearer now that to heal we don't always need to have our thoughts held in both hands; sometimes, healing is just to sit in the sunlight for a while and acknowlege that everything you've ever wanted is just behind fear, to acknowlege that sometimes the way home is a long one.
tldr; mama dead an i miss her maybe but its chill its so chill

Feyd Rautha: You know, there's this wisdom. If a man kills a couple people for you, he loves you. If a man kills a hundred people for you, he just loves to kill. However, I find that I can combine the two.
Paul: Put the knife down
Feyd Rautha: You first.

Ah yes, because (((they))) are coming for you 🙄
copied from one of the replies:
This comparison is deeply, offensively ahistorical and incredibly harmful, both in understanding the Holocaust and the I/P conflict. The motivations, the actions those motivations inspire, and the effects of those actions are all deeply different. And if you are mobilizing people around the idea that they aren’t, you are spreading misinformation that actively impedes the ability for us to create a path towards solutions that lead to peace and the safety of everyone involved.
The Nazis aimed for endless expansion (Hitler was very explicit about the fact that he did not just want to return to the historical borders of the German Empire) & total extermination of Jews, and as such rounded up all Jews & dissidents in any territory they occupied & placed them in industrialized labor and extermination camps, and took over most of Europe and much of the Middle East. Whereas the worst of the worst in Israel are irredentist & revanchist—they want a specific piece of land historically occupied by Jews & they want collective revenge on Arabs & Muslims.
This is racist, reactionary, and violent, but it is not Nazism. Israel isn’t rounding up every Palestinian & dissident they can get their hands on in any territory they occupy. The nearly 2 million Palestinians in Israel are still Israeli citizens with full legal rights. An entire tenth of Israel has been openly attending protests of Netanyahu’s, and haven’t ended up in camps. They’re not an ever-expanding Empire with no end in sight; they’re a tiny country the size of New Jersey, surrounded by multiple factions that have made no secret that their goal is to wipe Israel off the map and chase Jews to the ends of the earth to kill them.
Netanyahu & Likud’s disregard for human life in pursuit of preventing Palestinian statehood & destroying IRI proxy groups like Hamas and Hezbollah (whose existence are existential threats to Israel & Jews living in the region) is more than “regrettable”. It’s unacceptable. But there is no “when they come for you”. And hyperbolic Holocaust Inversion like this, shouting about how the Jews in a little tiny country in the Middle East is like the Jew-killing Empire bent on World Domination, and how it’s “coming for you” wherever you live makes you sound like Alex Jones.
You can easily criticize the Israeli government’s action without rhetoric that amounts to Holocaust Revision/Distortion and weaponizes the memory of the industrialized mass-slaughter of millions of Jews against people still living with its impact—people whose motivation in this war (however brutal & blinded by hate) is heavily informed by a desire to ensure it will not happen to them again.

Any real bored bitches wanna help me w analysing a poem that I'm trying to write a paper on currently?
I'm pretty sure I understood it at one point but my brain is mush and now I'm not sure about anything and I should finish by friday :D
Most important is the last line of each stanza, since I wanna concentrate on how it overall relates and expresses the theme of the poem, and how the slight changes from stanza to stanza changes the impact and meaning

I'll take anything, from overall thoughts to things you spot in single verses or even words

He says he likes to stir me up,
That it makes me easier to drink in.
Though I'd pour myself out for him,
All over him, if he asked.
For we are both desperate.
Just want, want, want in the darkness.

Do you ever think of me As I have thought of you?
I saw the scribblings of Muddled lines from your life. Day-to-day inspirations, All carefully collected.
I wanted to know how it felt. So I wrote, day and night. But I may have been mistaken, You, the subject of what I write.
It's increasingly clear that, I do not have varied interests. Everything loops back to you, You are my forever muse.

So I keep scratching and scratching, like a wild animal begging to be let out. I can barely keep awake, and I’m tired—so, so tired. But I don’t stop. I’ll beg and beg until I exhaust everything in me. And even as I die, I won’t loosen my jaw, or unclench my fist. I want to claw and scratch at the world, and ask to be let go.

Imagine being Priam and just having received your son with his new spouse and be like "Okay...the worst has happened. Now we expect retaliation from Sparta coming at any moment"
A while later when Troy was minding their own business like every day and suddenly the retaliation you expected finally arrives. However is not just Sparta...
You see over 1000 ships arriving from afar with their colorful sails carrying all major kings of all major cities of Greece under the banners of the previous suitors of Helen's including the richest of all, Agamemnon, the offended husband Menelaus from yet another rich city, a freaking demigod Achilles known for his strength in battle and rumored to be invulnerable by weapons and the infamous Odysseus known for his cunning and indirect ways.
You know you are up for a wild ride. Potentially you already know you are screwed.
And now the music called "Pines of Rome" from the version of Fantasia 2000 plays rentfree in my head!
