You are such an awesome writer š„¹ I love seeing you show up on my timeline!
I'm not sure if you are taking requests rn and totally ignore this and I'm so sorry if you are not and sorry to bug you.
I am so obsessed with bombshell bau reader with our boy Spence. I was thinking like maybe established relationship this time where the team goes out to the bar again only this time her and Spence are actually together so she's just really cute and even more cling. Maybe her and Emily or one of/all of the other BAU girls are being wild goofy drunk girl and reader is extra flirty with Spence but not at all smooth and Spencer is just like āyou're a menaceā ? But like in a sweet adoring way š?
Again no pressure at all and I hope you are feeling better from the rude requests and enjoying your time off school, lots of love xxx
thank you love, and thanks for your request!! ā” drunk!reader
The last time you'd been to this bar in particular, you and Spencer were strictly friends. He was still styling his hair straight and wearing sweater vests, and the idea of being your boyfriend was a fantasy. A brilliant, never-going-to-happen work of fiction.Ā
āMy boyfriend is the prettiest man alive ever in the history of planet Earth!ā you declare, climbing up on one knee in the booth beside him, your cherry spritzer tipping over the glassā rim. It races down your naked arm to your elbow and drips from there to his thigh. āHave you seen him?āĀ
āSure, I've seen him,ā Morgan says, rolling his eyes.Ā
You wrap your arms around Spencer's head from the side and kiss his forehead. You shift as you do, forcing your lips up into his hair, leaving behind an accidental raspberry smear of lipgloss. āThen what's the problem?ā you ask.Ā
āI don't know,ā Morgan says.Ā
āI know what it is,ā Emily says.Ā
āMe too. Rhymes with indoctrination,ā JJ laughs.Ā
You put your glass down hard on the table, arm still held proudly behind Spencer's neck. A lot has changed since the last time you were here, but the way he looks up at you hasn't budged. He has a sick, all encompassing crush on you, and seeing you now turns it into a dizziness he can't shake, almost like he's had a few too many drinks with you. Your eyes are glassy, grounded but wet, and your eyelashes pinch together in the corners as you bring your gaze down to his. āIt's love,ā you say.Ā
Everybody laughs. Spencer just keeps watching you watch him, his palm to the small of your back to prevent a fall.Ā
āIt's love!ā Penelope echoes, shepherded by Hotch, too many drinks between them both. āMy favourite lovebirds! I brought your drink, beautiful.ā
āThank you, gorgeous.āĀ You take it eagerly. Spritzer sloshes over the bumps of your fingers.Ā
āSit down,ā Spencer suggests.Ā
You give him brief googly eyes and sit down. The booth is a three sided square, with you and Spencer on one arm, Rossi, JJ and Emily against the back, and now Morgan, Penelope and Hotch opposite. It's a full troupe tonight, a rarity, and you and Penelope decided early on that the best way to celebrate would be to drink whatever you liked and in egregious quantities.Ā
Hotch is perhaps doing the same. Spencer can't tell. But all in all, everyone's having a good night, especially you.Ā
āDid you hear that? He's so nice to me,ā you say to no one in particular, your fitted blouse sparkling in the light as you lean back, your hand finding his thigh. āSpencer, what's on your pants?āĀ
āOh, I wonder?āĀ
āYou're not blaming me, are you?ā Your voice is as stickying as you can make it, and drunk as a skunk you may be, but you maintain your talent for flirting.Ā
āDid I say that?āĀ
āBecause that wouldn't be very, gentlemanly of youā¦ā You lean in too close. Your talent remains. Your subtlety suffers a different fate.Ā
He leans in like he might kiss you and says, āYou're a menace.āĀ
āWhat's that supposed to mean?āĀ
In front of all your friends and coworkers. āIt means I'm cutting you off,ā he says, sliding his hand between you and your glass.Ā
More laughter. You throw hurt looks at them all and Spencer picks up your cherry spritzer. You're baffled, but a smile dripping in sickly sweet love spreads over your lips as he drinks it. āFine, I'll share,ā you say.Ā
āThank you,ā he says, putting it out of your reach as he leans in to kiss you, cherry lingering on his lips.Ā
You kiss him back gently, and then a little harder. He eases you away. Arms snuck once again around him, you squeeze until his ribs cry out in protest and make yourself comfortable on his shoulder.
āYou're not mad at me, are you?ā he asks, head angled down to offer a tender smile.Ā
āI love you so much I've decided not to care.ā You lift your head. āYou're too nice to be mad at you,ā you whisper. āAnd I love you.āĀ
āYeah, you've mentioned that.ā He rubs your arm. He's so in love with you, he doesn't think to blush at his part in your PDA.Ā

Unfortunately once again I've only had time and mental energy for very short fictions that could fit in a commute or two this month. But, as it's always the case, there are a few wonderful gems among these!Ā
Please don't be fooled by the number of Kudos! Ao3 is not Amazon!Ā
As always I'll tag the writers whose tumblr usernames I know. If you're a writer and you want your story removed from this list please let me know.
And now, without further ado, let me tell you about the wonderful stories I've read this month, and the things I loved about them! ā„ļø
Novemberās Notable Fictions
WIPs:
Wavelengths & Frequencies, by @shadesofecclescakes and imposterssyndrome @maaikeatthefullmoon Rated E, chapters 15/?
This story is such a warm, cozy, comfort blanket. Enemies-to-lovers human AU where Aziraphale and Crowley work as DJ for the same media corporation. They have a history, but we don't know what it is at the beginning. Great story, great humour, great characterisation, great fuzzies, absolutely great banter! I look forward to every update and do a little joyful dance every time I get an update notification. This fiction is becoming one of my all time favourites.
You're The Bad Guys, by Nebz_AlphaCentauri @alphacentaurinebula Rated E, chapters 20/?
Cold war human AU in which Aziraphale is an MI6 agent and Crowley is a KGB agent. Each of them is assigned to a mission in Berlin, from opposite sides of course. Great characterisation, suspense and references to canon.
My own WIP, And I Did, rated E, chapters 14/15 (nearly there!)
In my not-a-summary I say that this is a story about faith, about love, and about choices. Which is true. But I have come to think of it also as my apology dance to Crowley. My headcanon about Aziraphale has always been clear, but at first I wasn't sure about what Crowley would do after the final 15. I didn't see Crowley drinking himself oblivious or taking a road of self destruction. But I didn't know what he would do. Then it hit me, and that was when I started writing And I Did. I knew what Crowley would do. Crowley would do what Crowley does. And what does Crowley do best? This is a story about faith, about love, and about choices. Aziraphale is Supreme Archangel, Crowley is Grand Duke Of Hell, and they have to bring about the Second Coming. And of course they're not talking.
Complete stories:
The Small Ad by ladydragona and SylWritesStuff, rated E, 32k.
To overcome boredom, Crowley offers his services as a hired partner. Aziraphale is need of someone to pretend to be his partner. The rest is history. This is a lovely, hot, and sweet fake relationship fiction. Very interestingly, the POV changes at every paragraph, and because the story has two authors it left me wondering whether one wrote Crowley and one wrote Aziraphale, but kind of in real time.
The Angelās Gambit, by Augenblickglotte, @dragonfire42 , rated T, 9k.
Aziraphale has been playing chess with the angel of Death for over 1500 years. You'll have to read it to find out why. I loved the banter between Aziraphale and Azrael.Ā
Percy, by Jackie Thomas (Jakie_Thomas), not rated, 10k.
This is the story that touched me the most this month. It's set 100 years in the future. Aziraphale leads a quiet existence in a cottage. When Adam Young dies of very old age, Crowley picks up Aziraphale to go to his funeral. He doesn't stay after that, and you'll have to read it to find out why. The story does have a (kind of) happy ending. Or a hopeful one, at least. But it digs deep in some of my very real, very human fears. Fear for the planet, fear of growing old, fear of growing apart, fear of everything ending without us ever getting a second chance of fixing things. I really loved this story and will go back to it again. It also gets extra points for reversing the roles of how the fandom usually see Aziraphale and Crowley! Top marks!Ā
Caramel Delight, by AJ_Constantine, rated E, 16k.
Lovely neighbours to lovers human AU. Crowley is instantly attracted to the new neighbour and his -oh, lord- forearms (and, I mean, who wouldn't?). But he's determined not to make things awkward, they are just friendly neighbours. That's why Aziraphale keeps knocking on his door for more of that caramel sauce Crowley makes so well. One of the tags in this fiction is: Aziraphale is bad at flirting. I very much beg to differ.
One shots and short stories:Ā
Can I Have Your Number? by AppleSeeds, rated G, 1.8k.
Aaawww. Aziraphale goes to order drinks for him and Tracy, and writes down his number for bartender Crowley. Crowley asked for it, right? RIGHT?? All well that ends well, this story is brief and sweet.Ā
Angels Don't Blow Their Own Trumpets, by shaggydogstail, rated E, 8k.
This story had me cackle! Crowley poisons himself by accident (well, by trying to be cool, point is he didn't mean to) and there's only an antidote that can save him. Please DO READ the tags for this one.Ā
Anthony J. Crowley, Retired Demon And Airbnb Superhost, by TheOldAquarian, rated G, 3k.
A selection of reviews by guests who rented Crowley's flat on Airbnb. Very funny!Ā
Proving Oneās Loyalty, by @indigovigilance , rated E, 4k.
Set towards the end of season 1, Aziraphale goes to heaven to speak with a higher authority only to find that Gabriel has taken Crowley prisoner. Aziraphale has to torture him in order to prove himself to heaven. Smut ensues.Ā
You Can't Un-See A Dog, by Dannye Chase (HolyCatsAndRabbits), HolyCatsAndRabbits @holycatsandrabbits rated T, 4k
This was one of the highlights of my month, fiction-wise! Crowley is summoned by two humans to be offered in sacrifice. Aziraphale knocks on their door within, like, 3 minutes. I just loved this story: The light banter and the interactions between Crowley and Aziraphale are chef's kiss; the adorable domesticity of their relationship shines through in a situation that really is not domestic at all; Aziraphale is being his incredibly brilliant self; AND there's a little mystery-solving thrown in for good measure! Top marks!Ā
Hold The Phone, by theRavenMuse, rated E, 1k.
Crowley listens in on Aziraphale having intimate moments by himself. But phones work two ways. Lovely and hot!Ā
Plausible Deniability, by GayDemonDisaster (scrapheapchallenge), rated E, 5k.Ā
This story was so, so lovely! Set before and after the first failed Armageddon and not season 2 complaint, but to me it really feels like it goes very well with my personal headcanon regarding season 2 in general and the final fifteen in particular: they do communicate and they don't need words. The story itself is about Aziraphale denying to himself that things are happening by pretending it's all a dream. The writer illustrates their deep connection and mutual understanding beautifully.Ā
The Co-Pilot, by beardo @e-rated-beardo rated E, 4k.
Incredibly hot human AU. Eh, I say human AUā¦ incredibly hot AU. Tony is attracted to Az, but is afraid of acting on it because of what the author describes as an āoverfamiliar demonā who sometimes took the wheel for a minute. So he's content to just chat to Az at the pub. Yeah, like Az is ever going to shy away from an encounter with Crowley's inner demon.
Presque Vu, by NaroMoreau, rated E, 9k
Human AU. College student Aziraphale sees his ex Gabriel at a party he didn't want to go to to begin with, so of course he hides in the kitchen. Until his (and everybody's) impossible crush offers to pose as his boyfriend. This story is incredibly lovely and heartwarming!
Masturbation (Doesn't Count As Sex, Surely?), by Hellsgardener @hellsgardener01 (I think it's you?) rated E, 1.3k.
Very few fictions manage to convey such intense feelings of sweetness and hotness alike in such a short tale as this one! Aziraphale asks Crowley if he's ever had sex and reminisces about his own solo experiences.
To Bind Them, by LCwrites, rated E, 5k
Human AU with a lovely enchanted/supernatural/faerie element. Aziraphale is tipsy at Anathemaās Halloween party and when he overhears Crowley talking on the phone he wants to find out what he's up to. But that's not even the half of it.
Our Homeward Steps Were Just As Light, by On1OccasionFork, rated T, 7k.
I've seen this little gem recommended a lot recently, and with very good reason! Human AU where Pepper works in a nursing home. Anthony is a beloved guest prone to causing trouble, Aziraphale is a new guest. It's tender, deep, funny and original. Stirs things in you, a fiction like that. I loved it. Extra points for being in Pepperās POV.
Hot Blood, Hot Thoughts, Hot Deeds, by Supergeek21, rated E, 3k.
This story was really up my street! Crowley is a vampire in search of a bride. Aziraphale should be scared, but he's too busy being aroused instead. Sweet, funny, and sexy.
A Newsworthy Affair, by @waitingtobebroken rated T, 1k.
A funny, adorable, fluffy fiction told through newspaper ads that the editors of the newspaper never authorised publishing. If you're in need of something to put a big smile on your face, this is it!
Merry Christmas, Hellspawn, by Libbyfay, rated G, 4k.
Beautiful Warlockās POV fiction. It's the first Christmas since nanny and brother Francis left without a word, and Warlock feels lonely. He goes to what used to be brother Francisā shed, goes through the box of Christmas decorations and reminisces about the past, until someone knocks on the door. I am quite partial to the few, precious Warlockās POV stories, and the author does an excellent job at depicting the pain of an 11 year old and that casual, matter of fact way 11 year olds deal with great pain. This story is delicate, and beautiful and deeper than it might seem.
Series:
Wrong Number AU, by GaryOldman, rated T.
This was the loveliest, sweetest, fluffiest series. Best to readĀ the stories in order to fully enjoy it. In Text From An Unknown Number (12k) Aziraphale text Crowleyās number by mistake. They hit it off straight away, but of course things are never that simple. Most of the story is told via the texts they exchange (between themselves and with others) and itās amazing how the author manages to convey excitement, feelings and a little angst in that way. I loved this fic, but I feel I have to give a little warning that the Harry Potter series is heavily used and referred to in this story. Sorry, Right Number (2.5k) is the super fluffy Christmassy continuation of TFAUN. Aaaaww, lovely! He's My Wrong Number, (1.6k) is possibly the fluffiest of the three and it's a real treat to read! A very happy ending to the series!
Poems:
DEATH Grinned-HE Didn't Have Much Choice, by @isiaiowin rated T.
Very evocative and powerful poem about Death.
Thinking Of Nanny, by @the-ineffable-dance
Another incredibly beautiful Warlock's POV fanwork to end this list. Warlock is all grown up and goes for a walk in St. Jamesās Park, where he sees someone familiar. The only complaint I have about this poem is that it was so difficult to read through the tears, really.
October's list here.
December's list here.

What is a romance novel, really?
So far, the response to this post has mostly shown me that a lot of people don't actually know what a romance novel is, and that's okay! I don't expect everyone to know! However, for my own peace of mind, I am going to do my best to explain what we mean when we talk about romance novels, where the genre comes from, and why you should not dismiss the pastel cartoon covers that are taking over the display tables at your nearest chain bookshop. Two disclaimers up front: I've been reading romance novels since I was a teenager, and have dedicated the majority of my academic career to them. I'm currently working on my PhD and have presented/published several papers about the genre; I know what I'm talking about! Secondly, all genres are fake. They're made up. But we use these terms and definitions in order to describe what we see and that's a very important part of science, including literary studies!
The most widely used definition of "romance novel" to this day is from Pamela Regis' 2003 A Natural History of the Romance Novel, in which she states that "A romance novel is a work of prose fiction that tells the story of the courtship and betrothal of one or more [protagonists]."* People also refer to the Romance Writers of America's "a central love story and an emotionally satisfying and optimistic ending" and another term you will see a lot is "Happily Ever After/Happy For Now," which posits that the protagonists must be in a committed and happy relationship at the end of the novel in order to count as a romance novel. That's it. That's what a romance novel is.
Of course it's a bit more complex than that; Regis also posited the Eight Essential Elements which describe the progression of the love plot over the course of the book, and there's a similar breakdown from Gwen Hayes in Romancing the Beat that is intended more as writing advice, but both of these are really useful for breaking down how this narrative structure works. My personal favourite part of the Eight Elements is that the romance opens with a definition of the society in which the protagonists exist, which is flawed in a way that oppresses them, and then the protagonists either overcome or fix it in a way that enables them to achieve their HEA. A lot of social commentary can happen this way!
It can also be a bit difficult to pin down what exactly counts as a "central love story" because who decides? A lot of stories have romance arcs in them, including dudebro action movies and noir mystery novels, but you would never argue that the romance is the central plot. A lot of romance novels have external plots like solving a mystery or saving the bakery. A useful question to ask in this case is whether the external plot exists for its own sake or to facilitate the romance: when Lydia runs off with Wickham in Pride & Prejudice, it's so that Lizzie can find out how much Darcy contributed to saving her family from scandal and realise her own feelings for him. The alien abduction in Ice Planet Barbarians happens specifically so the abducted human women can meet and fall in love with the hunky aliens. There are definitely grey areas here! Romance scholars argue about this all the time!
I have a suspicion that a lot of people who responded to the post I linked above are not actually romance readers, which is fine, but it really shows the lack of understanding of what a romance novel is. I have a secondary suspicion that the way we have been talking about books has contributed to this miscategorisation in a lot of people's minds, because especially with queer books we will often specifically point out that this fantasy book is f/f! This dystopian novel has a gay love story! This puts an emphasis on the romance elements that are present in a book when a lot of the time, the romance arc is just flavouring for the adventure/uprising/heist and we are pointing it out only because its queerness makes it stand out against other non-queer titles. It makes sense why we do this, but there is SUCH a difference between "a sci-fi book with an f/f romance arc" and "an f/f sci-fi romance." I could talk for hours about how the romance genre has evolved alongside and often in the same way as fanfiction and how there are codes and tropes that come up again and again that are immediately recognisable to romance readers, even down to phrases and cover design, and how romance is an incredibly versatile and diverse genre that functions in a very specific way because of that evolutionary process. The same way that dedicated fantasy readers can trace the genealogy of a given text's influences ("this writer definitely plays a lot of DnD which has its roots in the popularity of Tolkien, but they're deliberately subverting these tropes to critique the gender essentialism"), romance readers are often very aware of the building blocks and components of their books. These building blocks (that's what tropes are, lego pieces you put together to create a story!) often show up in other genres as well, especially as part of romantic arcs, but that doesn't make every book that features Only One Bed a romance novel, you know?
Romance is an incredibly versatile and diverse genre and I really highly recommend exploring it for yourself if you haven't. I personally read mostly Regency/Victorian historicals and I've been branching out into specifically f/f contemporaries, and there are so many authors who are using the romance framework to tell beautiful, hard-hitting stories about love and family while grappling with issues of discrimination, disability, mental health, capitalism, you name it. The genre has a very specific image in a lot of people's minds which makes them resistant to it and it's not entirely unjustified, but there is so much more to it than Bridgerton and repackaged Star Wars fanfiction!**
*the original text said "heroines" but Regis later revised this. There is a very good reason for the focus on the heroine in the first couple waves of romance scholarship, but that's a different post!
**neither of these are a bad thing and part of that genealogy that I mentioned earlier.

Iāve been seeing āWhat if Nicki survivedā takes, so, as I see it (trying my hardest to be succinctā¦!)
Nicolas & Nicolas & Lestatās relationship is beautiful because he (& thus - it) is doomed.
Nicolas was never long for this world. Like your Shakespearean or Greek tragedies, you can ruminate on Armandās role; Lestatās role; Nicolasā parentsā role*ā¦ but while Nicolas may have struggled through an extra tortured decade or so, even if Lestat had never been made a vampire & even if he & Nicki hadnāt ever broken up, I am almost certain that in time, likely as Lestatās star inevitably would have risen, Nicolas would have sunk deeper into a disillusioned, resentful depression that would be all the worse as he wouldnāt want to sink into it & heād want only to love Lestat & be happy for him & yet Lestatās world would be opening up & heād have shone ever-brighter as he would have had to watch Nicolas, his love most likely slowly & awfully self destruct, sinking deeper & deeper, inescapably into darkness. (And this post is about Nicolas, but Iām not sure a mortal Lestat would have survived experiencing a slow self destruction by Nicolas in this way eitherā¦)
Whatever the scenario, all paths led to Nicolasā death. (I described just one scenario here - but thatās likely the best-case scenario for Nicolas?!)
Whatās more - thatās the beauty! Thatās the beauty of gothic literature. You donāt need happily ever after to feel the peace & resonance & satisfaction from it. In fact happily ever after is (certainly to me anyway! And was so as a child too, instinctively) depressing as itās (fictionally) unrealistic. The satiation comes from the satisfying resolution when what you knew deep down was always the ending comes to pass. As it always had to. As it must. Sorrow is Nicolasā end. Death, in the end is all of our ends & in fiction, some characters can be an articulation of that inevitability & Nicolas is that for sure.
Just as Claudiaās end always had to be as it is & was a way for Anne Rice to give at least some kind of closure to an unfathomable, senseless, never-resolved pain in her real life - that of her daughterās death; so Nicolasā death is cathartic.
Here is a beauty of art. In reality, death is always painful & senseless, often random, always meaningless & there is no understanding it or ever getting over it. It has no purpose. It is always cruel. It is incomprehensible to our mortal minds. Just as true immortality is incomprehensible, so is mortality - that those we love will die. And the planet will die. And every memory of every human who ever existed will be lost. And the one specific person you love most of all too, can just die. It is senseless. People kill. People die. Death.
But in art, we have a realm to shape our inexplicable & painful experiences into something thatās not only manageable, but pleasurable. We can shape meaninglessness into meaning. And as I see it it means WAY more & I feel way more deeply &, ultimately (as itās truer) it makes me feel way happier when the deepest tragedy can be sharped into meaning by stories. It is resonant and cathartic - A Savage Garden created by art, you could sayā¦? Or at least a true articulation of The Savage Garden.
I donāt fully have the words to articulate what Iām trying to say. But Nicolas is one of my favourite VC characters & heās certainly the character I relate to most.
And I love that heās dead. Thatās the point. He would always have died. Thatās his beauty & his tragedy & what Lestat felt in Nicolasā music, yet never fully understood about Nicki in his idealistic youth.
* We might blame Godās role, though. Religion.

Lol, why is canon so important to some people?
Think about it dude. What is canon? Canon is a book series written by one person (who btw is a terf but letās not talk about that now). One woman.
What is fanon? Fanon is a bunch of people all coming up with new thought and ideas that they love. Fanon is a group of people who saw their opportunity to get representation in fiction, whether itās trans representation, aroace representation or bipolar disorder representation. Itās beautiful, because these people might have never seen their disorder, their gender identity, their sexuality, their skin condition or their body type be represented ever before. Because people like jkr exist, and they write stories excluding people they donāt respect, and that is horrible. In the marauders fandom, young kids with a love for writing get their chance. Young people who have a curiosity and imagination like no others get to put it into their own works. People get to discuss, people get to bond over their favourite headcannons and characters. I find it so beautiful. Or perhaps youāre just one person. A young child who has no happiness in this world, but finds comfort in their favourite ship or their favourite character, a character they headcannon with their own skin colour or sexuality. It brings them comfort, and thatās all that matters. Young children donāt deserve to feel guilty about this. Perhaps they already are abused at home and yelled at 24/7, when suddenly grownups on the interest start shaming them for their favourite ship, their favourite dynamic, their favourite fanfiction. Is that fair? No, it isnāt. Not in the slightest.
So sure, go ahead. Enjoy canon. Enhoy whatever makes you happy. Enjoy reading whatās already written. You donāt have to use your own imagination if you donāt want to. But please, donāt shame others for their favourite ships, characters or headcannons. If you can enjoy the fandom and find peace in it, why canāt everybody else?
The words of one woman, a transphobe btw, against the words of a teenager, lonely in this world and lonely with the struggles of being the seemingly only loving person in a world of transphobes etc. What is canon, really? Maybe my headcannons are canon to me?
Edit: And for the love of God, people donāt deserve to be called blood purists, zionists or anything like that for liking Regulus, Jegulus, the Slytherin skittles etc. That is a very close minded thing to say. Slytherin is not all about being a pureblood and above everyone else. Jkr did a mistake there, describing all the qualities of the house and then proceeding to use Slytherin as the house for all the evil, fucked up, ugly characters she didnāt like. And I am far from a Zionist. I am against discrimination of all sorts, I feel very strongly and have strong opinions about things like these, Iām against racism, queerphobism etc. Keep in mind, I am a minor and I already know more about this cruel world than most people my age that Iāve ever met. Iām a loving person. I have struggles of my own. Being called a Zionist, transphobe etc. is EXTREMLY triggering for me. To think that there are people out there, on this planet, thinking such things about me and believing I have beliefs like that, is extremely upsetting. Especially since they donāt know shit about me. I can ship whoever I want and like whatever character I like without being an arsehole.

Recs of my fav things with mental illness/trauma/neurodiversity representation that lets their characters be unpleasant and full people:-).
These are a collection of things I personally found relateable, over the course of my life. Almost all of these are aimed at adults (but not all!) and it's okay to disagree with me on wether these are good or not, but I put them on this list because I like them and I like how they portray complex mentally ill characters.
Hereās a randomizer that picks one at random!!!
Pieta, by Nanae Haruno. Genre: josei manga (josei is manga aimed at women, usually ones in their 20's). Two girls who struggle with mental health fall in love.
Dungeon Meshi, dir. Yoshihiro Miyamjima, original story by Ryoko Kui. Genre: fantasy anime. After his sister is eaten by a dragon, a man does his best to get her body back and revive her. In order to survive he decides to cook monsters with his party, instead of trying to travel with food from outside of the dungeon. Personal note: autism meshi. My personal favourite is Kabru, because he's literaly me when it comes to Being Totally Normal About Human Interaction.
Burnt Sugar, by Avni doshi. Genre: literary novella. A woman starts losing her grip on reality as her mother starts losing her memory. My personal opinion: it's just amazing, god, one of my favourite books ever, no book ever portrayed psychosis in such a personally relateable way, even tho I differ from the protag on so many levels.
Promising Young Woman, dir. Emerald Fennel. Genre: a deconstruction of revenge films. A woman traumatised by her friends suicide tries to avenge her.
Simon Snow triology, by Rainbow Rowell. Genre: ya fantasy and romance, deconstruction of chosen one stories, wizard school. Note: the exploration of ptsd mostly happens in book 2 and 3. The first book differs both in subject matter and tone, and was written originally as a stand alone. A typical chosen one protag defies the narrative set on him. Personal note: the way trauma reflected on protag's relationship with sex was so well thought out. Reread this out of nostalgia recently and found myself stunned on how uniquely well it's written.
Fleabag, screeplay by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Genre: dark comedy, drama. A woman who seems aware of the fourth wall tries to cope with her best friendās death.
Revolutionary Girl Utena, dir. Ikuhara Kunihiko. Genre: magical girl anime deconstruction, fairy tale deconsturction, psychological horror. A girl who wants to become a prince gets tangled in messy drama of the student council, after she wins a duel and accidentally becomes engaged to a girl they refer to as the rose bride. Personal note: FAVOURITE SHOW EVER, a queer classic, ectetera, the most complex show ever written in my personal opinion, the entire narrative is about patriarchy's evils, and damn, no show since did it better imo.
Boy meets Maria, by Peyo. Genre: romance manga. A boy falls in love with a member of his high school's theatre, who turns out to be a boy.
The Locked Tomb, by Tamsyn Muir. Genre: sci-fi fantasy horror. In a planet system of necromancers, a girl from a planet with a single living necromancer gets picked to be said necromancers swordwoman, when she tries to become a saint. Personal note: you will not believe the amount of Insane Undead Lesbians this series has. READ IT.
Bojack Horseman, main writer Raphael Bob Waksberg. Genre: dark comedy, animated sitcom. A horse/man way past his prime still lives off of money from playing in a 90ās sitcom.
My Lesbian Experience With Loneliness, by Nagata Kabi. Genre: manga memoir. A depressed woman who has trouble with forming relationships tries to have her first time with a sex worker.
Pinky and Pepper forever, by Eddy Atoms. Genre: horror, dark comedy comic. Two art student girlfriends try to survive art school, and later meet again in hell.
A pale view of hills, by Kazuo Ishiguro. Genre: literary fiction. An imigrant woman, recalls her first pregnancy and a short friendship she had back in Japan.
Neon Genesis Evangelion, dir. Hideaki Anno. Genre: mecha anime, psychological horror. A boy is forced to pilot a robot by his absent father who runs a para-military organisation. Personal notes: second favourite anime of mine, every character is their own shade of unwell, there is a reason this is a classic.
Fight Club, by Chuck Palachniuk. Genre: thiller, literary fiction. A white collar man loses his apartment and moves in with his strange working class friend. Personal note: even if you've seen the film, read the original.
The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath. Genre: literary fiction, semi-memoir. A talented writer fights her suicidality and depression.
Crying in H-Mart, by Michelle Zauner. Genre: memoir. The author recalls her mother's last months and death.
My Dark Vanessa, by Kate Elizabeth Russel. Genre: literary fiction. After her ex teacher is accused of sexual assault, a woman recalls her high school romance with him. Personal note: this is heavily inspired by Lolita, and even though I've read both I kind of prefer this book, fight me.
Summer, 1993, dir. Carla SimĆ³n. Genre: drama. A young girl spends her first summer in a new home after her parents die. Personal note: good representation of a young child processing trauma is so rare!!!!
My Broken Mariko, by Hirako Waka. Genre: josei manga. After her friend's death, a woman goes out of her way to find out why she died, disbelieving her friend would kill herself.
Everything, everywhere, all at once, dir. Daniel Kwan and Schienert. Genre: sci-fi. A woman discovers multiverse time travel while trying to do her taxes, and processes her troubled relationship with her daughter.

What I read in 2024
Non-Fiction
History and Class Consciousness (1923) by Georg LukĆ”cs ā okay, I didn't finish this book. BUT, I'm still mentioning it because the 80-ish pages I did read were so terribly influential on me that I couldn't not include it. Considered one of the foundational texts of 'Western Marxism', the first three essays (especially the one on 'Class Consciousness') show just how dynamic historical materialism can be.
'Theses on the Philosophy of History' (1940), and 'The Author as Producer' (1934) by Walter Benjamin ā I read in a John Berger piece that Benjamin wanted to compose a book made up entirely of quotations. I think about that a lot.
Marxism and Form (1971) by Fredric Jameson ā Jameson's account of the aesthetic theories of Adorno, Benjamin, Marcuse, Bloch, LukĆ”cs, and Sartre, plus an extended account of what dialectical criticism is and can be. (That last chapter is an expansion of his excellent 'Metacommentary' essay which you should read right now.)
Marxist Modernism (2024) by Gillian Rose ā A transcript of Rose's 1979 lectures on Frankfurt School critical theory from LukĆ”cs to Adorno by way of Benjamin, Bloch, and Brecht. The lecture format makes it far more approachable than Marxism and Form but necessarily more simplistic. Regardless, Rose does a phenomenal job contextualising every theory discussed, outlining the unifying threads that might not be evident when approaching each thinker individually.
The Transition from Feudalism to Capitalism by Rodney Hilton and others ā Collecting the 1950s transition debate and complementary material. All your favourites are here: Sweezy, Dobb, Hilton, Hill, Lefebvre, Hobsbawm. I particularly loved the essay by Kohachiro Takahashi.
A Singular Modernity (2002) by Fredric Jameson ā A rigorous theorisation of 'modernity' and 'modernism'. All your favourites are closet dialecticians. I devoured this in a week, so good.
Fiction
Guards! Guards! (1989) by Terry Pratchett ā My second Discworld novel after having read The Colour of Magic 5 years ago. A joy to read.
Notebook of a Return to the Native Land (1939) by AimĆ© CĆ©saire ā A long poem tracing the coming-into-consciousness of an anti-colonial subject. Rich with history and anger. 'I would go to this land of mine and I would say to it: "Embrace me without fear ... And if all I can do is speak, it is for you I shall speak."'
Hard to Be a God (1964) by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky ā Future communist spacemen observe a planet whose civilisation is stuck in its Middle Ages (or, more accurately, backsliding into quasi-fascist reaction). A favourite, feels like it was written specifically for me.
The Tombs of Atuan (1971), The Farthest Shore (1972) by Ursula K. Le Guin ā The second and third books of Earthsea. Tombs was excellent, probably the high point of the trilogy, or at least the only novel I felt was truly subversive of contemporary fantasy. The Farthest Shore I very much liked, but the narrative was far more conventional, if not conservative.
Mother Courage and Her Children (1939) by Bertolt Brecht ā No one does it like him. I would do anything to be able to see the 2006 Meryl Streep production.
The City and the City (2009) by China MiĆ©ville ā My first MiĆ©ville. This scratched a very specific itch for me, looking forward to when I have the time to start his New Crobuzon series.
Shadow & Claw (1980, 1981) by Gene Wolfe ā The first half of the Book of the New Sun. A favourite, if not the favourite.
Melville (1941) by Jean Giono ā Something between an essay and novella: a fictionalised account of Melville's time in London in 1849 and his decision to write Moby-Dick. I had very high hopes coming into this but it was not very great. Too hetero.
Heart of Darkness (1899) by Joseph Conrad ā I quite enjoyed reading this so I say in the most neutral way possible that this was the longest hundred pages I've ever read.
Gardens of the Moon (1999) by Steven Erikson ā The first book in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. I wanted a huge fantasy world to get invested in (googled 'books like Elden Ring') and this one stood out to me. Erikson's prose left a lot to be desired, but the worldbuilding and plot construction were great. I'll probably read one of these books a year; will provide a series overview in 2034.
Little Blue Encyclopedia (for Vivian) (2019) by Hazel Jane Plante ā An elegy for a trans woman by a trans woman, told through encyclopaedia entries about her favourite (fictional) show. So much life packed into this short book.
To the Lighthouse (1927) by Virginia Woolf ā A favourite. From this novel alone Woolf ranks among the best prose stylists I've read.
Bartleby, the Scrivener (1853) by Herman Melville ā [edit, forgot to mention this one]

A Brief Description of an INTJ
(Just from my point of view, feel free to add/disagree)
-Likes rainy days, coffee, books, sleep, learning more about favourite topics
-We know things are going to take a bad turn but weāre too lazy to tell/most of the times people donāt listen
-If we accept your invitation/talk to you first/smile when you talk/send you random things/ask for your opinion, you are someone important/interesting
-Likes monochromatic colours
-Small talks are like poison, slow and suffocatingĀ
-Suicidal at times, will question why humans are so complicated/meaning of life
-If itās an interesting task, we will give our all. If not, weāll procrastinate but feel bothered/stressed because thereās an incomplete task lying aroundĀ
-Thoughts when waking up: Why is the sun so bright today? Does reality even exist? *suddenly remembers todayās schedule and groans at the boredom of it all*
-Dislikes children except quiet and intelligent ones
-Looks at stars at night and starts overthinking until emptiness creeps in
-Dislikes world domination but world destruction
-Tries to summarise what people are talking about
-Becomes energetic when involved in a theoretical discussion/spending time alone
-Please donāt touch our things. Everything is where they are supposed to be at
-Will obsess over a topic at times and not care for anything else
-Likes quiet places. Will imagine how beautiful the world will be like if weāre the last person on the planet
-Hates group projects to the core, unless itās with someone we can work with
-Can come as ācoldā people but we just donāt want to face people-pleasers
-Loves INFJs, ENFJs, ENFPs, INTPs, ENTJs, ENTPs, ISTPs
-Relates to certain characters but doesnāt dare to say out loud because people would think us ācrazyā or āmaniacalā
-Confused at why people think INTJ characters are cute, then realise that people like fictional characters
-Knows at first glance what a person was feeling, but doesnāt know the right things to say
-Keeps thoughts to ourselves because no one will ever understand/looks at us strangely
-Cringes hard at things that people say without processing
-Sometimes feel superior than other peopleĀ
-Wonāt feel isolated when other people donāt involve us in their activities but will feel āleft outā when not as capable as others
-Believes that people should earn their respect, regardless of social status
-Feels depressed because we will never see the technologies of the future, then questions if the future is better than the present
-Myself is my greatest criticĀ
-Keeps an emotionless face for most of the time. Doesnāt understand why people show their emotions easily
-Feel like we donāt need schools - we can understand a topic better by ourselves than listening to the same lecture for two months
-Doesnāt understand why people can see the best in others/black and white
-If starting to feel affection for someone else, we will analyse our feelings and try to numb ourselves using logic
-Will look at extroverts and feel tired in a sudden
-Secretly delighted when a friend cancels an outing
-Will stick to a favourite food/drink until we get sick of it
-Memorises favourite lines from books
-Will judge other peopleās choice of things
-Emotions are useless, if only they could be eliminated
-Never buy our drinks. The wrong type of coffee would ruin our day
-Everything should be as perfect as they should be
-Will do anything to be āabove than averageā
-Will reveal too much personal information with a friend that understands
-Realise that there is no way to learn everything and then sulk
-Knows what weāre talking about but canāt bring it out in words
-Thinks about something else when talking to someone
-People may describe our eyes as āemptyā
-Bonds over ideas/same beliefs
-Retakes the MBTI test frequently to make sure that it doesnāt changeĀ
-Likes being an INTJ but sometimes wish they were other types
-Wishes that other people would treat personality tests as a guideline (though not to be fully trusted) so they would know that personalities are complex and not just of one type. Example: people that wish that others could be more sentimental when people that trust logic exist
-Quick to avoid distractions as to not interfere with our thinking processĀ
-Feels like an Oscar-winning actor when dealing with social events
-Doesnāt like celebrating any festivals/birthdays, but will play along if itās someone we care about, as long as we arenāt in the spotlight
-Doesnāt ask other people for help unless itās really necessary
-Likes dark humour and things that arenāt what they seem to be
-Understand that life is meaningless, only holding on until now to do the things we like/for people we care about

Hereās my ever growing collection of books that are sea-themed, about ships, or have a general connection to the sea <3
Talking about each of them under the cut:
Have been collecting for a couple of years and obviii i plan to get so many more. These are mostly non-fiction.
From bottom to top:
Atlas of remote islands by Judith Schalansky. Love this book, it has beautiful illustrations about all these tiny islands lost in different oceans. Very informative and great to look at. I bought mainly for the edition but of course the content is great too.
Sharks in the time of saviours by Kawai Strong Washburn. This oneās about a Hawaiian family and their struggles, as well as some magical realism thrown in there. Itās one of my favourite books, with gorgeous writing and storytelling. Loveeeee it.
Somos agua (we are water) by Laura Madrueļæ½ļæ½o. A recount of the authorās love for the ocean, how she became a marine biologist and diver, and an exploration of the sea and ecology. Really insightful and interesting.
Erebus: the story of a ship by Michael Palin. One of my most recent purchases on account of my interest in the Franklin expedition. Havenāt read it yet but the cover is so so beautiful and Iāve heard great things.
Frozen in time: the fate of the Franklin expedition by Owen Beattie and John Geiger. Another recent purchase which I havenāt read yet but Iām super excited to start.
Moby dick by Herman Melville. My absolute favourite book, and I donāt think it will ever be dethroned. Itās a comfort read, itās beautiful, itās insightful, itās philosophical and fun, it has fantastic storytelling and the best writing style (imo). I can go on and on and on. I just love it so much.
The whale: in search of the giants of the sea by Philip Hoare. I bought this when I was doing research for Moby Dick and it didnāt disappoint. Lovely read thatās non fiction but with beautiful prose.
Billy Budd, Bartleby and other stories by Herman Melville. Well yeah Herman is my favourite author too so I must have all his writings. This edition has basically all his short stories except a couple if I recall correctly. Anyway more examples of his beautiful writing <3
The terror by Dan Simmons. Now listen. I got this when I had watched like 2 episodes of the show and knew nothing of the book. I saw it by chance at the bookstore and got so excited that I bought it. I havenāt read it (yet) but mayhaps in the near futureā¦ who knows. Anyway itās there.
Moby dick by Herman Melville (again). One of my life goals is to collect all the editions I can find of this book. Peace and love on planet earth.
Whale by Paul Gadenne. A short story about a beached whale by a French author. My friend got this to me as a goodbye gift when I moved and if that doesnāt signify my love for whales and the sea, I donāt know what does.
And that is all!! If you wanna chat about these books Iām always open for a nice conversation, and if you have recs, please do send them my way!! <3

Amazon MGM Studios is developing the YA novel āThe Loneliest Girl in the Universeā as a feature film.
Variety released the news today:
Amazon MGM Studios is developing the YA novel āThe Loneliest Girl in the Universeā as a feature film.
Joe Roth and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum (āAnyone but You,ā āFast X,ā the upcoming āJackpotā) will produce the film alongside Katherine Langford, best known for starring in Netflixās hit YA series ā13 Reasons Whyā; Seldy Gray will oversee development for Roth Kirschenbaum Films.
The project is in early development at the studio with Sarah Conradt-Kroehler writing the script, from a treatment by Gary Dauberman.
The Loneliest Girl in the Universe was first published in 2017. It was nominated for the 2019 Carnegie medal, named one of Barnes & Nobleās Top 15 YA Books of 2018, and shortlisted for the STEAM Childrenās Book Prize 2019.
Romy Silvers is the only surviving crew-member of a spaceship travelling to a new planet, on a mission to establish a second home for humanity. Alone in space, she is the loneliest girl in the universe until she hears about a new ship which has launched from Earth with a single passenger on board. A boy called J.
Their only communication is via email and due to the distance between them, their messages take months to transmit. And yet Romy finds herself falling in love.
But what does Romy really know about J? And what do the mysterious messages which have started arriving from Earth really mean?
Sometimes, thereās something worse than being aloneā¦
Iāve been holding onto this secret for four long years, so Iām beyond thrilled to finally be able to share it.
The production company, Roth/Kirschenbaum, made Damsel (Milly Bobby Brown/Netflix), Anyone but You (Sydney Sweeney/Glen Powell), The School for Good and Evil (Paul Feig/Netflix), Fast X (Vin Diesel) and The Gray Man (Ryan Gosling), so Romy is in very, very good hands indeed.
A movie deal is, obviously, a dream come true. Itās not something I ever thought would happen to me. I feel lucky enough to get to keep writing new books, let alone for someone to make an adaptation of something that came out of my brain.
The Loneliest Girl in the Universe is a very special story to me. I wrote it when I was 22, fresh out of a physics degree. On the surface, it was inspired by some of the physics Iād learnt about deep space travel at university, but mainly it was propelled by the complicated feelings I had about technically being an āadultā while really just feeling like a naiive kid. It was about internet dating, and fandom as a form of self expression, and my complicated relationship with girlhood (as someone who no longer really identifies as a āgirlā).
Romy is one of the most precious character Iāve ever created. I poured so much of myself into her personality; her insecurities; her flaws and strengths. So many readers respond to her vulnerability (and mine) with deep love. People have told me that they would die for Romy. That sheās their favourite fictional character of all time. That sheās helped them process so much of their own anxiety, trauma and imposter syndrome. That sheās a role model for girls who are deciding to study science at university. As a writer, itās the biggest honour to have created someone who feels so real and important to so many people.
I canāt wait for Romy to reach a whole new audience on screen through Amazon MGM Studios. The team at R/K have a very clear vision for Romyās story, and so much respect for her journey as a character. Iām very excited to see what they create.
I have some experience of the TV industry in UK through my work in the Heartstopper writerās room as story consultant, but movies and Hollywood are obviously a whole new ballgame. Iām excited and nervous to learn more!
For everyone whoās been with me and Romy since 2017, I hope the The Loneliest Girl in the Universe movie lives up to all your expectations, when it launches (which might be a while off!). Thank you for sticking with me.
And for new readers, you can read the book now. Itās published in the UK, Australia, USA, and in translation in Indonesia, Brazil, Poland and Turkey.

A contemporary YA murder mystery set in sun-drenched LA, for fans of Malibu Rising, We Were Liars and A Good Girlās Guide to Murder. When Delilah meets Sawyer Saffitz (son of Anya Saffitz, aka Hollywood royalty), she becomes hooked on a decade-old scandal. In her quest for the truth, Delilah uncovers blogposts written by the mysterious āgottiewritesā and is soon caught up in a world of greed, fandom conspiracy theories ā¦ and murder. Hereās my thoughts on Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Thereās swear words, star trek, and spoilers oh my!
Start it up:
- āThe planet of galactic peace.ā Somehow. I donāt believe that.
- This guy on his horse looks like death
- āLet us explore it together.ā Come take my hand. Let us take ibuprofen together.
- Itās hard to dislike Sybok when he smiles like that so they have to add in a somewhat evil laugh
- Epic music is a go (Music by Jerry Goldsmith)
- āāYouāll be able to relaxā you call this relaxing? Iām a nervous wreck. If Iām not careful Iāll end up talking to myself.ā Kirk convinced him to come here and now he has to watch his idiot husband climb a rock
- Kirk knows Spock and McCoy are there to catch him when he falls but goddamnit if they arenāt both really tired of his shit
- No but seriously what is with science fiction and thinking āyeah thereās a race of cat peopleā looking at you too doctor who
- Caithlin Dar is awesome already.. I donāt trust Talbot (edit: haha too bad theyāre characters donāt really do anything anyway)
- Scotty narrating is my favourite actually
- UHURA IS AWESOME
- are Uhura and Scotty dating?
- āAdmit it. Weāre lost!ā āAll right, weāre lost. But weāre making good time.ā Didnāt know I needed Sulu and Chekov to go hiking together but I do
- āYes uh- yes, weāve been caught in a blizzard.ā *Chekov starts blowing into the microphone* god I love them. He just went with it!
- Bones ringing the triangle out of spite and love
- The husbands sitting down and eating beans. Why would they make star trek about literally anything else
- Coming back strong with the extra wh sound (it was in the last movie when McCoy said whales)
- The trivia panel is telling me that one of the goofs is Kirk calling Tennessee whiskey bourbon and it looks like something Spock would write
- McCoy laughing and talking about Spockās Vulcan metabolism and Spock indulging by saying heās also half human and McCoy responding with āwell it certainly doesnāt showā to which he knows Spockāll take as a compliment. Yes I do need old married mcspirk.
- āYou know, you two could drive a man to drink.ā Then Kirk with all the innocence and nonchalance in the world says, āme? What did I do?ā āWhat did you do? You really piss me off, Jim.ā
- McCoy is lecturing Kirk cause he canāt take anymore of his almost dying bullshit
- āI knew I wouldnāt die because the two of you were with me.ā āI do not understand.ā āIāve always known Iāll die alone.ā Iām about to cry because this is true. He dies in a distant future without either of them. Thinking about it they all somewhat die alone. Maybe Spock was there for McCoy but we never see his death. And Spock dies in an alternate past :(((
- āItās a mystery to me what draws us togetherā¦Other people have families.ā āOther people, Bones, not us.ā They are each otherās family.
- SPOCK ROASTING A MARSHMALLOW (not sure why they call it a āmarsh melonā)
- This is the silliest thing they could have possibly put in a movie (this is like a comfort fic but a movie and I am so here for it)
- āGod, I liked him better before he died.ā McCoy is getting nasty and Kirk is now like āwell time to sleepā
- āLife is not a dream.ā āGo to sleep, Spock.ā
- Why is the head Klingons outfit so cunty. Whyāre the Klingons so silly?
- They caught Spock in his jammies
- āWell gentlemen, it seems shore leave has been cancelled.ā They canāt go on ONE DATE
- Whyāre they huddled together on the ship like that?
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/035d1514b72f61d297ceb7ab5838d47e/fb8534d5e794012a-69/s540x810/9db648a6dce6244463b46c85ee6e7234bd62f4da.jpg)
- āāAll I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.āā āMelville.ā āJohn Masefield.ā āAre you sure about that?ā āI am well versed in the classics, Doctor.ā āThen how come you donāt know Row, Row, Row Your Boat?ā Spock makes the most frowny and tired face imaginable. I think McCoy was justified in biting back there cause imagine you wake up, get in a shuttle, and then get corrected. All Iām saying is Spock was being a bit of a know it all (wouldnāt have him any other way)
- ā*laughs* I donāt think Iāve ever seen him happier.ā McCoy is so jolly in this one
- The yeoman with Kirkās jacket is played by Shatnerās daughter
- HE ACTUALLY HAS A SHIRT THAT SAYS āgo climb a rock.ā omg
- That fucking outfit oh my goodness
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/bb4698e5f939056a31282cd9c63d82f9/fb8534d5e794012a-45/s540x810/2c0892664f4055968aed5e490e758c0c06eae368.jpg)
- āWhatās the matter, Jim?ā āI miss my old chair.ā And then it switches to Spock whoās going :[
- Love how the Klingons all know who Kirk is. Like heās THAT important
- Aww Kirk canāt write his diary :((
- Their silhouettes are so cute (34:06) (also they look like how aliens coming out of a spaceship look, I just think thatās neat)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/4c1f96e2187317ca2ca118dc40935d71/fb8534d5e794012a-56/s540x810/dd8b474fad21b84bbf7c5e137a4f0409440a4b5c.jpg)
- McCoy has to turn on the lights like, āstop sulking in the damn dark.ā
- āImagine that, a passionate Vulcan.ā What McCoy? You want Spock to be more passionate?
- āThis is Captain Pavel Chekov speaking.ā Heās so silly for that. But also itās probably best he doesnāt say āacting captainā as that would arouse suspicion cause as everyone knows the captain is always the first to go on dangerous away missions
- Whatās going on? Why is Uhura dancing ? What.
- What. Was. That. Scene. Why.
- āSpock.ā āYes, captain?ā āBe one with the horse.ā āYes, captain.ā Oookay
- āHold your horse, captain.ā Good one.
- Spock just. He just nerve pinched that horse.
- Spock does not know how to deal with seeing his estranged brother again (yeah I was spoiled) so, āyou are under arrest for seventeen violations of the neutral zone treaty.ā Is what he went with
- Sybok complimented and then winked at Kirk HE IS TAKEN
- āWeāre going to forego the tractor beam and fly her in manually.ā āManually?ā āHow often have you done this?ā āActually itās my first attempt.ā Personally wouldnāt trust anyone else to attempt that other than Sulu. He is THAT bitch (/pos)
- EXPLOSION!!!!! CRASHHHH
- whooo space stuff! Sorry the photon torpedo just missing as the enterprise went into warp was cool
- Spockās got a gun!
- McCoy comes out of the ship and is so confused and looks to Spock and Kirk
- Ohhh no. Sybok is gonna do his thingy magic thing to Sulu and Uhura with Scotty watching āem from above
- āWhat you have done is betray every man on this ship.ā āWorse. I have betrayed you. I do not expect you to forgive me.ā āForgive you? I ought to knock you on your goddamn ass.ā āIf you think it would help.ā āYou want me to hold him, Jim?ā āYou stay out of this. Why, Spock? Why?ā Lots to think about in this dialogue. But I think McCoy offering to hold Spock is him going āJim youāre overreacting canāt you see heās already remorseful?ā I could be misreading but if you understand it as the idea of McCoy holding him down is so redundant because Spock is strong enough to get out of his grasp easily but probably wouldnāt resist in this moment then itās just like aughhhhhh
- Also Kirk asking Spock to shoot someone is bad enough. But the fact that it was his brotherā¦
- Kirk is in disbelief. He didnāt know his own husband has a brother (half brother technically. Same Spock same.)
- āStop it, Jim! Spock could no more kill his own brother than he could kill you. If you want to punish him for what heās done, why donāt you throw him in the brig? Besides, weāve got bigger problems to deal with.ā Bones not only defending Spock, but also getting them back on track
- Apparently both Gene Roddenberry and William Shatner didnāt like that Sybok was Spockās brother. Roddenberry didnāt think that Sarek would have a child with another woman (I kinda agree but also Pon Farr wouldāve made him become engaged to a Vulcan before he met Amanda, so itās not completely unthinkable). And Shatner didnāt like it cause it was too much like āa soap opera plot lineā but they went with it so that Spockās actions made sense with the way he acted towards Sybok. I personally like that Spock has siblings he never told anyone about. Itās funny.
- lmao this time Kirk gets to stand on top of Spock to reach something (See patterns of force)
- Spock talking about himself in the third person because he doesnāt want to admit that he couldnāt get out of the brig
- āThe bond between these three is strong, difficult to penetrate. This will be quite a challenge.ā ITāS CAUSE THEYāRE MARRIED
- Itās funny that- canonically - Sybok can sense a really strong bond between them
- Kirk and McCoyās ass I mean- oh look itās Spock. With rocket boots!
- Spock holding onto Kirk and McCoy for their dear lives
- āI believe I overshot the mark by one level.ā āNobodyās perfect.ā McCoy keeps saying this to Spock and I think itās healing. Also flirting.
- Theyāre lit really nicely
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/f24aefff332b6f918a412ce4ca1ead7d/fb8534d5e794012a-53/s540x810/740b6f9924849c4b4b0855529e6d98c54c0c0a7c.jpg)
- McCoy is NOT having this āSounds like brainwashing to me.ā Youāre so right, back OFF Sybok
- (drawable moment 1:08:17)
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/bdff7ac1adf30f58a6fc549e2b278f7d/fb8534d5e794012a-7f/s540x810/91bc8cae892e40655b3804fe9bee43e59a186569.jpg)
- āYour pain is the deepest of all. I can feel it. Canāt you?ā OH WAIT WE GET TO SEE MCCOYS PAIN WHAT
- I have no words for this scene. Holy Shit.
- Forced therapy
- Oh they all get to see each others pain cause theyāre connected
- Spock gets to see his own birthā¦ why. What.
- young Sarek š§š³š³š³
- āSo human.ā YOU FUCKED THE HUMAN SAREK. God heās such a bitch.
- SPOCK FOR THE WIN!! Heās not leaving
- MCCOYS STAYING WITH HIS HUSBANDS!!! YEAH LETS GOOO! (Personally I donāt think McCoy would go with Sybok at all, but I wasnāt sure what the writers were gonna do and I was scared they would make him leave)
- I know weāve moved on from this but maybe Sarek saying that Spock was human was like saying āheās got your eyesā like comparing Spock to Amanda in appreciation. Weāll never know but itās still a bitchass thing to say.
- Kirk has a plaque with āTo boldly go where no man has gone beforeā what a nerd
- Theyāre really hot in their uniforms
- hi god
- Kirk wants to ID god. Fair enough.
- Thereās McCoy in the corner. Losing his religion
- āI doubt a God who inflicts pain for his own pleasure.ā YEAH McCoyās not standing for this shit
- Oh so Sybok wasnāt the enemy. Yeah thatās a good ending for his character. Saying bye to sock and asking for forgiveness
- āBeam up Spock and Dr. McCoy now.ā āNow, just a damn minute-ā Kirk said that so fast so that his husbands couldnāt argue with him
- āI am a foolish old man.ā āDamn you, sir. You will try.ā Spock aināt fucking around. Also he picked up a couple of words from McCoy
- āI thought I was going to die.ā āNot possible, you were never alone.ā Throw me out an airlock I need some air
- SORRY the immediate moment after that was SO MUCH WORSE āPlease, captain. Not in front of the Klingons.ā THEY WERE ABOUT TO MAKE OUT SLOPPY
- āCosmic thoughts, gentlemen?ā āWe were speculating. Is god really out there?ā They were having a nice quiet conversation and itās a shame they didnāt show it :(

- KIRK TALKING ABOUT SAM??? Oh no he was implying it was Spock
- this ending- Iām not okay.

Unfortunately I really enjoyed this one. William Shatner made a movie that was so shippy and was oblivious to it the entire time.
I know it took a really long time for me to post this one because I wanted to watch undiscovered country first, I havenāt watched it yet but I felt I needed to finally edit and post this one. I hope you enjoyed my silly little thoughts.

Do you make your bed?
I often make the bed when I leave for a couple of days, or for a night over, so when I come back home I feel comfy and all hehe.
Whatās your favourite number?
Yub, 3
But why? Eh.. The shape? The 'color'? The vibe? Occurrences in my life liked to the three? Idk, just 3 and all the 3 related numbers (33, 333 etc)
What is your job?
Student is not a job, because I am the one losing money, but yeah
If you could go back to school would you?
Probably, I'd like pre-school/middle-school, when I could learn new but easy things lol and I loved the smell and things at my school back then. I'd like to go back in whatever you call that period between 15-18 yo school time, but not for all aspect, let's say I was in a school specialized in art and it was a lot of fun to have a class like that. And for some reason too (but definitely NOT ALL ASPECTS) I'd like to be back to study literature, a part of it...
Can you parallel park?
Yub kinda but I don't like it, and I think it is easier to park on the left part of the road than the right (note: my country drives with wheel on left and road on right)
A job you had that would surprise people?
I didn't had any real job, but maybe the fact I study English literature... Because when I was a kid, until hmm 13/14? I had a deep hatred for English language xD don't ask me why, it is just a fact... This, and me studying literature to begin with, when I barely ever read.. (note: I love to read, but due to other reasons I have a very, very hard time to read even things I really really wanna read :( sed)
Do you think aliens are real?
Sure, but not in the sci-fi kind of way. I think it is absurd to think Earth is the only planet in the infinity of space that met the right conditions for life to develop. But I doubt these forms looks like... humanoid-green/grey skin beings or that they look anything as we know on Earth. I don't even know if there's any 'developed' (in human's terms) form of life, but definitely things that feed and live. (Once again, I doubt they come on Earth with super technology and such... if they do, I really hope they see their mistakes before making first contact and go far far away, before getting involved with the toxic humanity...)
Can you drive a manual car?
Lol of course I can (this question sounds very American oriented question(?) but in my country, manual car is base, we have many non-manuel, but majority is manual) but yeah, I can drive it
Whatās your guilty pleasure?
Uh... I don't really know... Some shows? Some I don't even 'like' but more because it reminds me of my youth? (Glee, Ugly Betty, Bones, etc) Idk if it is count as guilty pleasure... If anything else... uh I have unspeakable kinks (only in fictional/role play dimensions, nothing sicko irl), collecting PopMarts figurines? Fried chicken with spicy sauce?? Chocolate biscuit with chips??? I DONT KNOW
Tattoos?
Not yet, I wish to have some one day, but first I need to find *the one* I have many artists/kind of tattoos I like, but eh
Favourite colour?
Green and Purple (mostly all the hues) but also: pale mint, pale yellow, pale peach, pale pink, pale bleu, pale lavender, black, white and orange...)
Favourite type of music?
I literally can enjoy anything, from rock, pop, electronic, classical, ethnic/traditional, etc... I have some issues sometimes with some form of Jazz or RnB, but I still enjoy songs from these genres, so I can't say I hate it... I would say rock is always a go-to?
Do you like puzzles?
Most of the time yeah, if it is like puzzle board game š§© or puzzle video games š® or riddle games āI love it all (Im not saying I am good at it, I say I like it)
Any phobias?
Won't say it is phobia? But I feel grossed at any .. milling bugs? Like colonies of ants or when baby spiders get out of mother spider š¤¢ This and I'd say it is more anxiety, but I have a hard time being in crowded place/windowless places (a bit agoraphobic/ claustrophobic but since I can manage to deal with these situations sometimes, I won't call it phobia)
Favourite childhood sport?
Maybe archeryš¹ ? Or hmm basketball š and badmintonšø ... And I kinda like to play football ā½ but the toxicity around that sport is making it annoying and boring
Do you talk to yourself?
Rarely out loud, but pretty often in my own head. I feel dumb when I hear my own voice/sometimes it is even stressful because I grow aware of silence around me after I spoke....
What movie(s) do you adore?
Hmm tough question... Many for many different reasons.. But let's say: Legally Blonde (the vibe and the topic, go girls, can be barbie and have a brain), Princess Mononoke (base), FFVII: Advent Children (thirst), Nanny McPhee (chiiill), Crazy Kung Fu (top tier), Ne Zha (2019) (bery nice), ... That's it for TODAY's pick, what about tomorrow..?
Coffee or tea?
Both but āØāC O F F E EāāØ(even if Earl Grey Yin Zhen is honestly DOPE)
First thing you wanted to be growing up?
š¤ Idk which come first, but I remember I had the mad project to do "all my dream jobs at once", so I'd have been: a painter, going around the world with a circus where I'd be acrobat and magician, and yet, using the world-travelling to heal any animals I find on my way šš¤£
A forever go-to @davi-doo
I tag... *go through mutuals*
@beardedladyqueen @kales09 @chinchilla-7 @astraluxe @general-kalani @alladeline @chromium-siren
PLEASE LEMME KNOW IF I AM PESTERING YOU! I WILL STOP!

Current Novel WIPs:
Monstrum (Which, yes, is loosely based on my fanfic under the same name) A God who never wanted to be a God, sea elves, sapphic dwarven Goddess, polyamory is pretty much the norm, cursed tome that exploded a temple, MC works out he's a transman... What more could you want? Oh wait, there's one more thing: son of God who died multiple times and came back wrong each time, is currently possessing MC's meant-to-be-dead mother! Oops.
Quondam
Takes place centuries before Monstrum, when The Maker was only a sorcerer who wanted a better world... and now deals with the consequences of taking over as Sovereign of the World. Surely she can change her world without destroying it?
[Un-named]
Crash landing on a unknown planet, memories wiped... The A.I. with corrupted data, known as Thio, calls them Viator, but is that their name? Or a title? The only thing Viator knows is that they were thrown into a black hole... and now have a ship to fix, and to find civilisation.

I am really not the target demographic for Red, White and Royal Blue and honestly, the entire premise sounds dumb af from where I'm sitting, but all the gifs that crossed my dash looked hilarious and that main actor is beyond gorgeous, so I am going to give it a shot tonight. My expectations are so low, that unless this movie gets a shovel and starts digging, there is no chance it cannot exceed them. I am so ready to eat my words, just give me some pretty people, mindless fluff and basic comedy and I will be happy, I swear!
***
TWO FUCKING HOURS?
You guys, I'm going to be honest here, I don't think I have it in me to sit through this šš
***
LOL, only a younger brother š¤£š¤£ They did not have the guts to go all in and make him the heir to the throne.
Also, lol @ "Prince of England's hearts" but even more so at "whom all the world adores" š¤£š¤£ I cannot. I am absolutely not the target demographic for this and I don't think I have it in me to just go along with this, fictional British royal family or not. Who speaks like this? Who even believes it?
Anyway. Abolish the monarchy, Guillotine them all. Long live the glorious revolution!
***
LMFAO š¤£š¤£
Well, at least he looks equally disgusted.
If we can't off the royal family, how about we just off this news announcer? Because I am getting so much second-hand embarrassment.
***
LMAO, OK, he gets ONE point š¤£š¤£
OK, fine, two points, because he is stupid beautiful and the reason I sat down to watch this in the first place š¤
***
Yassss, girlfriend has great taste!
I'm two minutes in and so far, she's my favourite. I would totally watch a two-hour movie of her touring London and giving commentary on the yumminess of various guys she encounters.
***
LMAO, is he going to get hammered and smash the obscene 75-thousand-pound cake? š¤£š¤£
Because why else would they mention that price point and also show the cake in all its humongous 8-tier glory š¤£š¤£
Here for the diplomatic incident, ngl, I would totally read the shit out of that in the tabloids the next day š¤£š¤£
***
NOOOOO, THE CAKE IS RIGHT BEHIND THEM!
THEY WILL TOTALLY TOPPLE THAT CAKE!
***
Okay, I am laughing š¤£š¤£
***
SCREAMING š¤£š¤£
I saw it coming from a mile away, but goddamn, it DELIVERED! š¤£š¤£
***
I can't stop laughing š¤£š¤£
Watching this was such a good decision š¤£š¤£
***
LOL, if this was a real-life event, I would spend a week gleefully reblogging it on Tumblr, no lie š¤£š¤£
Also, it is a 9-TIER CAKE, not 8 š¤£š¤£ The more, the messier!
***
LMFAO š¤£š¤£
Also, OMG! Uma Thurman! š It's been a hundred years since I watched her in anything!
***
"Sunshine of my heart" š¤£š¤£
This movie is hilarious š¤£š¤£
***
Wait, Sarah Shahi??
I loved her in Life! I also watched Fairly Legal for her and thought she was stunning in The L Word! I'm forever bitter we never got to see that Nancy Drew adaptation with her in the main role š
***
The thing that is the most difficult for me to suspend my disbelief for is the idea that these two overly privileged young men involved in their countries' respective politics are actually nice people.
I keep chanting to myself, "You are not here for realism! You are not here for realism! YOU ARE NOT HERE FOR REALISM!"
To varying levels of success š
***
Romantic comedies are so not my genre. And I am so not here for ex-boyfriends or whatever this guy is.
I need Alex and Henry to get back together ASAP and start smashing cakes again because I'm starting to get bored.
***
These are gutter-level jokes.
Seriously, they couldn't get more creative?
***
They have the most basic taste in literature ever. It doesn't even feel authentic, more like what a nineteen-year-old girl thinks good taste in literature should look like.
***
I feel like I am extremely uncharitable towards this movie (the cake thing was funny tho) but it is very hard to take their bland flirting, pedestrian romance and pathetic humour seriously when you're coming into this from 2ha š The standards that have been set are on another planet compared to what we are being given here.
***
Please š
And smash another cake, otherwise I don't know how I'm going to make it through another hour-and-a-half of this šš
***
The things I will watch for pretty people š
He truly is stupid beautiful and makes this thing infinitely more watchable every time he's on screen.
***
I'm with Henry on this one, this party is like something straight out of my worst nightmares and crushing on the tall, hot guy seems like the only tolerable thing in this whole hellscape.
***
Aww, baby, he is not having a good time.
He wants to kiss him for New Year's too!
***
LOL.
Well. That escalated š¤£š¤£
***
NOOOOO, WHAT ARE YOU DOING JUST STARING AFTER HIM?
RUN AFTER HIM AND TELL HIM IT'S OK AND THAT YOU SHOULD CONTINUE SOMEWHERE BEHIND CLOSED DOORS!!
***
And some women! š
She's my favourite character in this thing, lol, followed closely by Sarah Shahi and Uma Thurman. And then Prince Henry š
***
This guy stands no chance to the level that it's embarrassing he still keeps trying.
I almost feel sorry for him, but I kinda have the feeling that he's going to be the one to out Alex and Henry, so my sympathy is very shallow. Just know when you've lost, my man, and MOVE ON.

Welcome to my Writeblr Blog!
Hi everybody! Iām MK, he/they/xe, and I donāt want to share exactly how old I am but Iām over 20.
I write work that teeters on the edge between classic fiction and straight-up whump, generally fantasy with a bit of sci-fi. I write a mixture of original work and fanfiction, mostly for Magic: the Gathering. One of my WIPs, The Piratesā Roost, is currently on Ao3 (link below).
I tend to write work that isnāt appropriate for younger people (minors please block the ā18+ contentā tag), and often discusses and shows abuse, both physical, emotional, and sexual. There are frequent depictions of trauma and mental illness. Please avoid my work or ask me clarifying questions if you want to avoid any of that, and please let me know if youād like me to content warning tag anything! I try to get the big ones, but Iām happy to tag almost anything if you let me know.
Please feel free to message me and talk about my work, I love to talk about it! Or feel free to tag me in games - Iām a bit slow on getting to them but I do love them. I also love sending and receiving asks, so youāll probably see a lot of ask games on this blog
I post a lot of Picrews of OCs - unless I link them in the post, the picrew Iām using is here (itās my favourite, go check it out :))
WIPs:
I tend to swap between these three based on what Iām feeling at the moment and how well writing is going on each of them
The Seven Station Chronicles:
My main active WIP - itās currently being reoutlined because Iām changing the protagonist. Itās original fiction and a space fantasy political drama of sorts. It tells the story of seven space stations ripped from their planet long ago and now floating in the void of space, primarily through the stories of Belladonna, a young noblewoman with the world on her shoulders, and Cassie, an escapee clone with a grudge and a dream. I currently have four books, plus a prequel and some shorts, planned. The full intro post is here, or you can check out the #seven station chronicles tag (or #seven stations: the jump for just the prequel) to browse all my posts about it.
To Kill a Dead Thing:
This is the one Iām currently actively writing on. Itās a Magic: The Gathering fanfiction and itās loosely a sequel to my finished fic, but you can read one without the other. It tells the story of Alexi, an elvish parole officer at the end of her tether with a mysterious figure that seems determined to break her to pieces, her human friend Andreia whoās desperate to help and hold her falling-apart office together while sheās at it, and the people they pull into their orbit trying to fix things. It doesnāt have an intro post at the moment, but its tag is #to kill a dead thing.
The Piratesā Roost:
Told in a periodically-written series of nonlinear short stories, The Piratesā Roost is an MTG fanfic, mostly unrelated to the others. It tells the story of a group of abused pirates escaping their abusers and recovering from trauma, primarily through the story of a young manās ascent from the groomed plaything of a violent captain to the captain of the most successful ship on the sea. The intro post for the series is here, the wiki is here, and the story archive is here. It gets periodically updated when I finish new pieces. You can find all the posts under #the pirates roost.
Finished work:
The Breaking of Kelsey Karlov:
Finished, needs minor editing. MTG fanfic. Tells the story of a human noble turned into a vampire by a violent vampire pontiff and their attempts to escape him while he pulls them ever deeper into his web.
