Easter at the Ghurch

Name: Ballo Dei Diavoli (Italian), Dance of the Devils (English).

Date: Easter Sunday.

Celebration: Of Death and Hell, and Faustian bargains.

Description: At unholy morning mass, Papa gives a sermon about the Resurrection of Christ and how important it is to be aware of the power their adversary has, while also celebrating making Faustian bargains in order to combat against God and Jesus.

Later, three people (typically Siblings) are selected to dress as Death (yellow dress, leather mask with demonic smile, crossbow or other weapon) and two Devils (red dresses and red devil masks). Throughout the day, Death (flanked by the Devils) selects random people to take to "hell" (a room), the selected people are escorted to "hell" (the room) by the Devils. Once in "hell" (the room), the selected people are able to symbolically buy their freedom back, in a Faustian deal.

In the evening, Death and the Devils perform a skit where they fight two (or three) angels and win, then perform a triumphant dance for the congregation in the evening ("Per Aspera Ad Inferi" is sung as a hymn).

After that, Papa gives a closing sermon about the eventual triumph of Satan over God.

Vernal/Spring Equinox at the Ghurch

Name: Spring Equinox (English), Equinozio di Primavera (Italian), Aequinoctium (Latin).

Date: Mid/late March (Northern hemisphere), mid/late September (Southern hemisphere).

Celebration: Of the Spring season. Day and night are equal length.

Description: At morning mass, Papa gives a brief sermon about the transition of Winter to Spring, how Spring symbolizes the awakening of dormant life, and growth and renewal and birth and whatnot.

In the afternoon, the Siblings gather in Primo's garden to plant this year's plants. Flowers, herbs, bushes, succulents, etc. are all planted, and the ones previously planted are celebrated when they bloom.

For those who are pregnant, they gather in Primo's garden and engage in a ritual asking Lucifer and Lilith to grant them a safe pregnancy and birth. For those who are not yet pregnant, but want to be, they also gather in Primo's garden and engage in a ritual asking Lucifer and Lilith to bless them with fertility. Both sets typically do this while planting something symbolic in the garden.

Various Siblings tend to do their own private rituals. Many tend to simply go for a walk and look at the plant life beginning to bloom, and the animals who have been born recently, appreciating and admiring the life returning to the world after Winter.
