a/n: aftermath of the party you and law were at, where nami and robin squeeze all the details out of you, reader is written as afab

the next morning, you found yourself sitting at a cute little brunch spot, the baratie, with nami and robin. the smell of fresh coffee and sweet pastries filled the air. the sunlight streaming through the large windows did little to warm the smug expressions on your friends' faces as they stared at you expectantly.

"so," nami started, stirring her iced coffee, "are you going to start talking, or do we have to shake it out of you?"

robin sipped her tea, her usual calm demeanor laced with mischief. "i have to admit, i didn’t expect such a dramatic reveal. it was quite the sight."

you sighed, setting your menu down. "alright, alright. what do you want to know?"

nami leaned forward, eyes gleaming. "everything. how long? how did it start? and, most importantly, how the hell did you keep it a secret for this long?"

you hesitated for a moment before giving in. "we’ve been together for about a year."

robin raised an eyebrow. "a whole year? that’s impressive."

nami’s jaw dropped. "a year?! and you didn’t tell us?"

"you didn’t need to know," you teased, taking a sip of your coffee. "it was our business, and we wanted to keep it that way."

nami groaned. "that’s so unfairrrr. and here i was, thinking you were just really bad at flirting."

robin smirked. "i assume that means law isn’t bad at flirting?"

you flushed slightly. "he’s… law."

nami laughed. "that is not an answer, and you know it."

you rolled your eyes, playing with your fork. "okay, okay. he’s not exactly a smooth talker, but he has his moments."

robin tilted her head. "so how did this even happen? he’s not exactly the social type."

you smiled at the memory. "it started when we got paired for a research project. we ended up spending a lot of time together, and at first, i thought he just tolerated me, but then he started making excuses to hang out."

nami tilted her head. "okay, but seriously, how did it even start? law doesn't exactly give off 'flirty' vibes."

you laughed a little. "oh, he was flirting. in his own weird, law way."

nami and robin both leaned in, eager.

"it was during that research project. we were stuck together all the time. one night, we were working late at the library, and i complained about how cold it was. normal guys would maybe offer you their jacket, right?" you said, grinning. "law? he just pulled a crumpled hoodie out of his bag, dropped it on my head, and said, 'you're annoying when you're sick.'"

robin chuckled behind her cup. "classic."

"and it only got weirder," you continued. "later that night, we were walking back to the dorms, and i tripped over nothing. he caught me, but instead of just helping me up like a normal person, he muttered, 'you're too clumsy to be walking around alone. you should stay with me.'"

nami gasped. "wait, that was him hitting on you?"

"yeah," you said, laughing. "i figured if that was his version of asking me out, i wasn’t going to say no."

nami sighed dramatically. "i can’t believe you bagged the campus enigma and didn’t tell us. do you know how many girls have tried to get his attention?"

robin chuckled. "i’m more interested in last night’s events. that was quite the possessive display."

you groaned, covering your face. "he was just… frustrated."

nami smirked. "frustrated enough to hoist you over his shoulder and declare you his in front of half the campus?"

you huffed. "he didn’t declare anything."

robin gave you a knowing look. "his actions did the talking."

you just rolled your eyes light heartedly in response and took another sip of your coffee.

nami nudged your arm. "so? is he really all broody and quiet when you’re alone, or does he get all soft?"

you smiled to yourself. "he has his moments. he’s still law, but he’s… sweet when he wants to be. he acts like he’s always in control, but when we’re alone, he lets his guard down. he’ll pull me close when he thinks i’m asleep, and-" you hesitated for a moment, "sometimes, when he thinks i’m not listening, he says the sweetest things. like how much he loves me, how he never thought he’d have someone like me in his life."

robin’s expression softened. "that’s adorable."

nami grinned. "i knew there was a softie in there somewhere."

robin nodded. "i do have one last question."

you looked up. "what?"

robin’s lips curled into a smirk. "so, how’s he in bed?"

you nearly choked on your coffee. "robin!"

nami cackled. "oh, come on! you can’t drop a bomb like ‘i’ve been secretly dating law for a year’ and not expect us to want the juicy details."

you groaned, face burning. "fine. if you must know… he’s intense. like, really intense. it’s like he has something to prove every single time. he’s so damn precise too, like he knows exactly what to do and exactly how to make me fall apart."

robin raised a brow. "interesting."

nami fanned herself dramatically. "whew, okay, i’m a little jealous."

you laughed. "yeah, well, it’s not just that. it’s the way he looks at me after, like i’m the only person in the world. he’s always so controlled, but when we’re together like that, i can see everything he feels. it’s the most vulnerable i get to see him."

robin smiled. "that’s beautiful."

nami sighed. "damn. i guess i have to stop teasing you about not flirting with guys at parties now, huh?"

you smirked. "yeah, i think my record speaks for itself."

robin lifted her tea. "to secret relationships and very satisfying reveals."

you clinked your glass against theirs, laughing as the conversation drifted to less scandalous topics, at least, until nami inevitably brought it up again.

Sophie foster outfits part 1/?

It’s been bugging me for a while that the dress sophie wears when they go to Atlantis in book one is supposed to be red and yet in the graphic novel it’s blue. Idk why I’m so hung up about that one tiny detail lol, but I decided to draw a more book accurate version because why not. And then I ended up deciding to draw all of her outfits in the order she wears them because I’m insane. We’ll see how long I commit to this. Anyway, im going to ramble about my thought process now:

I really like how in the graphic novel Sophie wore a long sleeve undershirt, but I switched it so that the one on top has stripes because I like it better this way.

The middle dress is described to have an empire waist and a beaded neckline. I looked up empire waist bc I know virtually nothing about dresses and what came up was a lot of Bridgerton-esque dresses, so that’s the vibe I ended up going with.

I went through at least three different designs for the purple one before I remembered that the illustrated edition exists, so the end result is heavily inspired by the design on pg. 152 of the illustrated edition. Which I will most likely continue to draw inspiration from because I love those illustrations so much. Tbh I wish the illustrator had been hired to do the graphic novel but alas…

September 1st, 2024. Wild Trick Shots is uploaded. And Green creates his channel.

September 4th. Super Orange vs. Greenzilla uploads.

September 6th. Alan announces the series, though it’s called an arc. The Green channel is discovered by a good chunk of people.

September 7th. The first episode, Green’s Channel is released.

September 10th. Super Orange vs. Flaming Red & Freezing Blue is uploaded. Still fairly normal. Posts a pic on his instagram with his friends, no tags.

September 12th. Green posts a BTS pic on instagram about the making of (presumably) Super Orange vs. Greenzilla.

September 13th. Vlog Through Minecraft is uploaded. This is when things start to go downhill. The cow makes an appearance.

September 14th. Another pic from Green. About the BTS of Super Orange vs. Flaming Red & Freezing Blue. Still fairly normal with the tags.

September 16th. Green posts a YouTube short with him thanking the fans for the milestone. He’s wearing the orange sunglasses as seen in A Special Song. Also posts on his instagram about a “not motivational” quote. That’s when the tagging plague started.

September 17th. Community tab post. Everyone wants to be named the grasshoppers for some stupid reason.

September 18th. Green gets Tiktok, posts his first dance Tiktok, abandons his friends for a cow, and updates his YouTube banner and bio. (He’s wearing sunglasses) Oh yeah, this also happens to be my brother’s birthday. (Happy Birthday!)

September 19th. Alleged Twitter incident. Also I ate grass and cried in the bathroom while Green posted a TikTok of him dancing Gangnam style.

September 20th. Green posts an instagram post with pictures of his new studio. He’s still wearing the glasses. New tiktok with him… what? I have no idea at this point.

September 21st. Green posts a video reacting and reading our comments. Unfortunately, he doesn't eat the grass. We get confirmation that the Color Gang have been 'acting weird' lately. (He's still wearing Orange glasses, my theory is looking more and more likely by the day) ...A somewhat interesting comment about Yellow that is bound to hurt, even though it was a couple days ago it's discovered by the people now. (Varying interpretations on it that we may not have gotten an answer yet.)

September 22nd. Green posts a YouTube short announcing he has a Tiktok. Not much happening... so far. A tiktok featuring Blue dancing is posted. Might be prerecorded but we don't know. It could be recorded at any time. But his friends are still here! ...right?

September 23rd. New tiktok of Red dancing this time! It seems like he's going to have everyone dance, apparently. It's really really fun though, watching the goober. (I'll try not to let my personal biases get through this I swear-)

September 25th. Green makes a community QnA post (I haven’t read the questions) and we get Yellow dancing.

September 26th. Orange dancing! (I don’t have tiktok I’m just going off of everyone’s posts lol) New Green instagram post where he definitely wants to eat grass and uhh idk he’s feeling cute. (HE HAS THE GLASSES) Oh yeah a tiktok of him dancing on a red background, still working on that.

September 27th. Tiktok pov: the fanbase wants Green to eat grass and I don’t think the Becker Team anticipated that. (Orange Glasses still on…)

September 28th. Surviving on the Couch for 24 hours, and he does manage to complete the challenge, though it appears rather boring from the perspective of the audience. No one is there. (🕶️) New Blue tiktok in which they are dancing in what's seemingly Adobe Premiere, I could be mistaken though. Instagram post of where Green (most likely) might be eating grass soon. Or teasing a video about it.

September 29th. So Green eats grass. Yeah. He does. He throws it up afterward so does it count? (🕶️) New dance tiktok, and the fandom somewhat goes insane over grass. (no context provided)

September 30th. Instagram post with a picnic next to cherry blossoms, presumably he’s pulling a prank… OH NOOOOOO (🕶️)

October 1st. Yay first day of October! … NO PRANK VIDEO- Green dumps all of his friends in lava as a “totally funny prank” … yeah. no. (🕶️) The fandom is currently combusting. Posts a new tiktok video hours later, it appears he’s in the same place where he reacted to people’s comments. Dancing.

October 2nd. … I have literally nothing to say. Green’s instagram post with him “cutting off toxic influences and fake friends.” It’s Second’s birthday. (And Dark’s) AND THIS HAPPENS- (🕶️)

October 4th. Green attempts a reaction video: Try not to laugh challenge. He gets a sponsor from NORD VPN, and there’s an ofd explosion at the end. (🕶️)

October 5th. The 2nd episode, "IS GREEN OKAY!?" is released. Spoiler alert: nobody is okay. (At this point, it hits way too close to home.) Later, he releases a video really late (in my time) titled, REACTING TO MY FRIENDS HAVING FUN WITHOUT ME. It might be from the recycling bin, we don’t know. (🕶️)

October 6th. Green releases a home tour video. With no one. He might be hearing something coming from upstairs, and he can’t find his friends anywhere. since @sketchy-scribs-n-doods asked why birth certificates are racist:

preface: read this post about eugenics so that I don't have to write that overview again.

anywho! the very very short version is that there was a guy named Walter Ashby Plecker (hereafter "the Plecker fucker") who was a doctor in Virginia in the late 1800s/early 1900s. like he was born right around when the Civil War ended and his family owned slaves, if you want to get an idea of the time and place we're talking about.

the Plecker fucker, along with a couple of his good buddies John Powell and Ernest Sevier Cox(1) from the Anglo-Saxon Club(2), wrote and lobbied for a law called the Racial Integrity Act (incidentally, one of the blueprints the Nazis used for their own laws), which did a couple of things:

it legally categorized every person into either "white" or "colored," with "white" being only people with a completely unbroken and provable white European heritage – with a teeny tiny exception for people who were less than 1/16th Native American that he was bullied into including(3) – and "colored" being literally everything else, with no specificity as to whether it meant Black or Asian or Native American or whatever;

it prohibited white people from marrying colored people (though notably not banning having sex with them: we're talking about a guy whose family owned slaves here, so you can do the math on that)

it allowed for the sterilization of certain undesirable people, such as the mentally ill; and, most importantly for our purpose:

it required all births and marriages to be registered in a big state-wide database, with the races of all parties listed.

and he also set himself up as the first guy in charge of that registry, so that it would be done exactly the way he wanted it.

prior to this, if you could get away with passing as white, you were (generally) treated as white. this was to prevent any white-passing mixed race people from marrying into white society (because their birth certificate records would show that their parents had nonwhite heritage), and eventually eliminate mixed race people, period.

now, obviously birth certificates weren't in common use before this law, so at least the first wave of people affected by the law could still (in theory) lie about their ethnicity and establish themselves as white on their birth certificates, thus allowing them to continue marrying "real" white people.

not a problem! the Plecker fucker fancied himself a bit of a genealogist (meaning he thought everyone with the same last name was related, somehow), so he'd just go in and edit people's records to say "colored," invalidating their marriages in the process, and ordered all of the people under him to do the same. like, there's a letter he sent out to the county-level people that was like, "anyone with the last name Collins [yes, really] is actually mixed race, DO NOT LET THEM GET MARRIED TO WHITE PEOPLE, EDIT ALL THEIR RECORDS."(4)

outside of the obvious negative effects of the law in general not allowing interracial marriages (until it was overturned by Loving v. Virginia in 19-fucking-67) and sterilizing anyone disabled or "feebleminded," him going in and literally erasing Native heritage from records has prevented Virginian Native Americans from being able to claim federal tribal recognition, because it's all just "white" or "colored," which could mean anything nonwhite.

anyway, that's why birth certificates are racist. they were made up by a racist guy to do more racism. and then that racist guy got hit by a car and died.

I stg this is the short version. the longer version was idk how many pages before I melted into a depressed puddle of goo and almost flunked out of my senior year of college.

(1) Ernest Sevier Cox was a weird fucking dude in that he was really good friends with Marcus motherfucking Garvey, to the point that they attended each other's events, dedicated books to each other, and wrote each other a lot of letters even after Garvey was deported to Jamaica (and Cox personally tried to get Garvey released from jail when he was imprisoned for mail fraud). This was partly because white nationalism and black separatism accomplished the same ultimate goals (i.e. Black people leaving the US) from different angles, but I think they just also genuinely liked each other? For some reason??

(2) Basically the KKK but for genteel, refined, upper-class people instead of violent, disorderly peasants (yes, they legit disliked the KKK because it was a poor person thing). Also, I can't find it again, but at one point when I was researching all this in college, I was looking through old school newspapers and either William & Lee or William & Mary had a junior Anglo-Saxon Club, sort of like a Young Republicans, and one of their contributions to the student newspaper was a piece about how they definitely weren't racist and how dare they be accused of racism, they just didn't want blacks or whites mixing! How is that racist? (Yes, they used the word "racist," and I have no idea what their definition of racism was, if it wasn't what they were doing) Anyway, I think about that a lot.

(3) This is informally called the Pocahontas Exception, because a lot of really, really influential, prominent and rich Virginians actually took a lot of pride in claiming to be descended from Pocahontas and John Rolfe (even if they weren't), and without the exception, they'd all be classified as "colored." Plecker didn't want any exceptions at all (he was, at the very least, not a hypocrite about what he thought "white" meant), but given that some of the people the law would make "colored" would potentially be voting on the law, he had to include the exception or risk it not being passed at all.

(4) The reason I even got into this subject in the first place is that one of my family tree names is on that list and we're pretty sure they moved to Kentucky because of it, but it doesn't necessarily mean they're related to us OR that they were white-passing mixed-race people: they could well have been just plain white people who happened to have the same surname.

Happy 1 Year Little Comforts!! <3

Give or take a couple days - oops ^^;

One of the longest projects I've done to date!! <3 <3 <3 Thank you all so much for the support, as well as all the comments and tags! I love going through them and reading all the lovely messages. They're a great pick-me-up whenever I'm feeling demotivated. So thank you again <3

So for the anniversary I wanted to do a little thing where I point out some details in the comic I'm very proud of XD (Yes I'm tooting my own horn - shhh)

Three Wishes Dream asks Techno to promise him something 3 times. And only on the third one does Techno agree. I tried to frame it as both Techno being cautious about agreeing to things Dream proposes (a la favor) but also as Techno finally agreeing when everything was laid out and there was nothing Dream had left to hide. (It's like a fairytale trial - 3 challenges with the last having a great reward.) Forget-me-(k)not I don't know how prevalent they are now a days, but growing up I was a really forgetful child, and learned somewhere that by tying a knot on your finger when you need to remember something supposedly helps in you actually remembering. Which idk if true, it didn't really work on me, but the knot itself actually stuck, so in this case I used it for 3 things: A reminder that Dream was stuck in prison and needed help, a reminder that Phil needed to get Techno out of prison (eventually), and a reminder that Techno promised Dream he would free him. Scars So all the scars that I drew Dream with all actually have canonical reasons. So in order - the one across his nose was from Techno during their duel, the ones on his neck and chest were from Tommy taking two canon lives, the one on his lips were from Sam after first being detained, and the last on his chin (and arms) are from Quackity. Continuity The armor that Phil is wearing at the end is a reference to another illustration I did of the Doomsday Trio. It's post prison break so maybe it's a sequel? (This is less a detail and more just a personal thing - but my favorite page has to be page 7 - where Dream's image crumbles. It usually takes me at least 2 tries to get the look I want - this was one and done ^^) More behind the scenes - this comic (final version) started with the hug. I said initially the comic was supposed to be 6 pages at most, but I wanted to make the hug work so bad that I literally rewrote the comic. Only the first two pages are part of the original draft. Everything else was new. My brother literally sat with me for days going over each scene and making edits. OTL There were so many iterations - in the end I think there are at least 7 drafts of this comic. Cut Content Bonus: Unlike my other comic where the vision was there from the beginning, Little Comforts had some growing pains, and a few scenes had to be cut for it to work. So here ya go!

This was cut in favor of the shaking scene, some levity was needed to let the scene breathe, plus quoting my brother "It's more Techno".

Also wanted another hug, but editor and I felt that it took away from the pay off in the end.

Alternate version of 'he's a child' - originally it was supposed to go at the end of the comic, as an epilogue. Timing wise it ended up not working, which ended up with an even better gut punch so I'm not too upset. I may still render this....

Howling Witch Information (IDK what to call this)

POV: Written in 3rd person POV with a named OC. This is how I normally write right now. Second person POV is not usually my thing. Usually it's 1st or 3rd, currently 3rd. As of posting this, it's not done yet...feel free to pester me about finishing it.

World: Alternate MCU universe merged with a version of one of my original universes that involves Wolves/Lycans (shapeshifting wolf people that you may or may not see shift right away), blood magic (Witches. Typically very bloody but may or may not be with this one), pocket planes (think Ta Lo/the place Shang Chi went), and some things out of the comics (vampires exist and Blade is present, maybe not canon and OOC, but he's here. We're gonna pretend that Marvel wasn't split between several studios).

Premise: What if Bucky Barnes had a girl in the 40s? What if she decided she needed to get back at the people that took him from her? What if she was captured initially by a different splinter group of HYDRA or the SS and they turned her into something different? What if doing that turned her into something they couldn't control? What if she finds out Bucky's still alive, brainwashed, and spends the next 70 years being HYDRA's nightmare trying to get him back until luck delivers her the perfect star spangled bait?

Thought Process That Birthed This: "Bucky is called White Wolf in Wakanda...what if his lady was a Wolf...what if she was made into one by HYDRA...what if it was knock-off-HYDRA that did it...how do I do this in a way that makes sense...let's find out."

Summary Blurb: To the intelligence community the Winter Soldier is a ghost, but to HYDRA the Howling Witch is a harbinger of doom that will stop at nothing to get at their prized asset. She is the biggest mistake they ever made.

Movie Timelines: Captain America 1 & 2 in the first part. Not in order, it will flip back and forth with flashbacks. Starts in Cap 2 with references to events in Cap 1 and after. Continues on post Cap 2 period and on into an altered MCU timeline. Not sure where it's going to end yet.

Other Notes: This is somewhat self-indulgent. As it grows in length I feel myself entering the same mindset that usually stops me from finishing what I write: The fear it's too self-indulgent, that I'm building too much of a world, that it's wandering, that no one will like it, etc. Well...I've also entered the realm of: I don't care I'm doing it anyway and it's in a world of comic book logic where these things exist in some capacity anyway so it doesn't have to make logical sense but it does need to be explained in some fashion so the world exists. Take it as it is. I also find updating this post periodically keeps me motivated.

8. X Lives and X Deaths of Wolverine

A lot of rapid fire plot stuff and time travel fuckery. Centers around Wolverine, Jean, Moira, and Xavier and established some essential stuff for the following volumes. There are no Cherik interactions in this arc at all, but it may be necessary to skim through for plot reasons. Thankfully it's relatively short with only 3 volumes, combined into a single omnibus.

After this point the reading order gets super fucky so I'm trying my best 😭 Yes, there are reading guides that go issue by issue but I'm not keeping like 20 tabs open with all the different titles and switching between them.

9. Legion of X (Issues #1-5)

Mostly just Legion and Nightcrawler hijinks. Charles is in a scene interacting with his brother and David in a way I found pretty funny. Magneto does not appear at all in the first five issues, everything after that point contains major plot developments that are covered in Immortal X-Men, A.X.E Judgement Day, and X-Men Red.

10. Immortal X-Men 2022 (Issues #1-4)

The start of Professor X and Magneto's divorce era Krakoa edition 🙃 Magneto became disillusioned with the concept of Krakoa after everything that happened in Trial of Magneto and Inferno. Then a lot of conflicts happen one after the other and everyone's mad at each other. They are separated so not many shippy moments, but the initial breakup is worth reading:

11. Hellfire Gala: Immortal

Charles is in a single panel and that's it. Some pretty big villain!Moira stuff happens but idc so I just skimmed through it. I didn't read it so idk where it sits timeline wise but I think it's skippable.

12. A.X.E. Judgement Day

The entirety of the Judgement Day arc, happy to say that this one is only 6 issues instead of sixteen 🙃 You get a detailed explanation of major developments that are echoed in the rest of Immortal X-Men, Legion of X, and X-Men Red. You can read this one first but you won't get the context for certain things that are mentioned in passing. No Cherik interactions, unfortunately.

13. X-Men Red

Basically what Magneto and Storm have been up to on Arakko after Mag retires from the Krakoa council. Some really badass moments and I found the difference in Arakko and Krakoa culture to be super interesting. You also get to see Magneto's final words to Storm (about Charles), and later on some pretty intense Charles angst as he attempts to cope with Erik's permanent death. Tbh at this point I'm getting pretty tired of going back and forth between different titles so I read this one all the way through. Of the 16 issues only issues #1-11 have Cherik bait, with issue #11 specifically dealing with plot points from Sins of Sinister. I THINK if you want to read in the correct order you can read up to issue #10, read everything Sinister, and then go back and read #11. Everything from that point onwards in X-Men Red is Arakko and Storm-centric.

14. Immortal X-Men (2022) (Issues #5-10)

The conclusion of the Judgement Day arc and the lead up to Sins of Sinister. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Mystique, Destiny, and Sinister. Charles is called annoying a lot and Magneto's death is mentioned multiple times. Then some more unexplained developments are shown which I need to read the other titles to get context for. Great. Don't worry about Dr. Stasis or Nightcrawler's horns just yet, because by issue #10 there's a whole lot more to worry about. After a very cool monologue from Xavier we get a direct lead in to Sins of Sinister.

15. Legion of X (Issues #7-10)

Charles being a bad dad saga continues! Whole lot of twists and mysteries that are not resolved by the end. I think a lot of people will be frustrated by Charles behavior here, but to be fair he is likely being influenced by something/someone as shown in immortal X-Men. I find legion's storyline to be interesting so I didn't skip anything, but there are no Cherik ship bait-y moments aside from Charles generally missing him and being lonely.

Idk where this sits in regard to Sins of Sinister, but seeing as Nightcrawler has horns and Charles doesn't have a diamond on his head, it likely sits somewhere between Immortal X-Men #8-10 on the timeline. Or simultaneously? There's a lot of timeline fuckery happening. I'm honestly so confused.

16. Sins of Sinister

Gotta be honest I didn't expect this one to be such a complicated read. Basically X-Men Red, Legion of X, and Immortal X-Men all build up to this single issue, at which point there's a whole new series of titles to read set in this Sinister-verse. Originally I planned to cover the whole sinister business in this post but it's a lot so I'm gonna cut it here. I think that Sinister is genuinely very funny so I do plan to read it all.

According to this helpful guide on reddit, I seem to be on the right track. There are a LOT of titles going simultaneously for this period in Krakoa history, covering branching plots for Wolverine, the Marauders, Sabertooth, and more. I'm mostly concerned with plots having to do with Charles and Erik, so I'm not going to bother with those (maybe I'll check out Sabertooth idk). The important thing is that I've read all the primary interconnected titles: Immortal X-Men (*only up to issue #10), A.X.E. Judgement Day, X-Men Red, and Legion of X.

Honestly there are a lot of great moments, which makes it even worse that this is such an awfully complicated experience. I wish anyone attempting to read it all good luck and I hope this post is even remotely helpful.

❁Pearl Fey and Trucy Wright hanging out❁

Today I finished this drawing and honestly, I love it so much! makes sense since I drew most of this with my left (main) hand (used right hand for a good chunk of the sketch to help maintain being somewhat ambidextrous) and, got to use an art medium I haven't used in almost a year, after buying some cheap alcohol markers (cheaper than sharpie's cheap) a few weeks ago.

(rest of post has minor spoilers for AA2-5, mostly AA4-5 but I do mention very minor spoilers for AA2-3)

I've been wanting to draw Pearl for a while, especially after seeing her in the DD DLC case (which is my fave case from DD) but than on the 18th I read this fanfic by Samioli and, it was so cute! It made me want to draw Pearl even more! To clarify this isn't fanart of the fic (idk if I ship Pearl and Trucy but I do see them as childhood bffs) but, I do hc Pearly as lesbian thanks to the fic and, I still wanted to recommend it cuz it's such an amazing fic and, it motivated me to draw Pearly hanging out with Trucy.

okay now back to talking about the drawing XD. I decided to re-design both girl's hair-do's and I'm very glad I did. I like Trucy's canon hair but as mentioned in this post I originally thought her official sprite had a bob, and now that I drew her with a bob I think I might continue doing so! Also I don't think she has an ahoge in canon but, I think it suits her so I will always give her one :3 (Edit, turns out she does have an ahoge and it's even cuter that the one I gave her so in future I will draw her with her canon ahoge)

As for Pearl, I dislike that her model in DD basically is just a taller version of her child sprites in AA2-3, so after making some thumbnails on a different page of hair-do ideas, I decided on a hairstyle that's similar to her canon hair-do but, more interesting imo, especially since I made the braids heart shaped on purpose cuz it references her love of romance (very on the nose, but being on the nose is kinda on brand for AA).

I also had a lot of fun designing these outfits for them both! Trucy's bag is of course a playing card and I picked 8 of diamonds cuz she has a diamond motif in canon and, was adopted by Phoenix when she was 8! Her jeans also have a two patches, one of her first daddy's hat/her hat when she was a child and a bunny, cuz that's magic related and cute lol. Also gave her a bracelet that kinda references Apollo but kinda doesn't, because it's on the wrong arm (didn't want it to crowd the hand holding pose!) and it's sliver because I didn't want to add yellow to the colour pallet :P

Pearl's outfit was loosely inspired by fairy-kei fashion as I feel like Pearl would enjoy Fairy-kei and Yumekawaii but not strictly follow a jfashion style. I also gave Pearl glasses. Not only make her look more unique compared to her canon child design but also, cuz AA doesn't have enough characters with glasses imo and I think they look super cute on her! I did consider giving her heart lenses but, I think that might be over doing the heart motif so I made them round instead :P

Rotten work buffy: some kind of story with a buffy who’s issues are wildly different. Dunno how to do this outside of a series retelling and idk if i wanna do another but i DO REALLY LIKE THIS

Love lost: my spanya fic which was also like, the first btvs fic i wrote/started lol. Spike wishes their pain away and there is no chance of romantic spuffy. Buffy focuses on healing herself and the big plotline is getting anya out from under d’hoffryn with the power of revenge, scheming and violence

Dangerous and savvy: spike is still s2 levels of menace even after s4 and buffy is actually demon literate. They are lowkey highkey insanely into each other.

Drewsilla s2: continuation of my drewsilla series with that version of sprusilla replacing canon. Drewsilla is a human reincarnation with dru’s demonic essence in it so she’s more lucid but weaker and such.

Anyanka s2: anyanka is summoned in s2 and is stuck there. Is basically buffy’s ultra-violent feminist big sister. May or may not give giles a freebie wish after jenny.

So, there are multiple real-life Alchemy recipes to create the Philosohper's Stone. I'm not going to go through all of them since I believe the Philosopher's Stone in the world of Harry Potter isn’t identical to the real-world concept.

The actual Alchemical process of creating the stone itself is also one that transforms the Alchemist. To quote Paracelsus: "Yo will transmute nothing if you have not first transmuted yourself". So the process of making the Philosopher's Stone, in itself transforms the person making it into the perfected version of themselves and humanity. Because that is what the stone is — the most perfect, noble, and pure material there is

Now, let's see what we actually know about the Philosopher's Stone in HP? Because the stone Harry sees in the first book isn't necessarily the real thing, it could just as well be a fake, so I can't really count on it. I mean, if you had a Philosopher's Stone why would you keep it in a vault at Gringoots and not where you'd actually need it (the stone can make gold, so you could buy a vault at home)? And even worse, why would you let it be used for an obstacle course in a school?

The ancient study of alchemy is concerned with making the Sorcerer’s Stone, a legendary substance with astonishing powers. The stone will transform any metal into pure gold. It also produces the Elixir of Life, which will make the drinker immortal. There have been many reports of the Sorcerer’s Stone over the centuries, but the only Stone currently in existence belongs to Mr. Nicolas Flamel, the noted alchemist and opera lover. So we know the stone should:

turn metal into gold

produce an elixir that makes the drinker immortal

Now, if we look at the immortality part, I want to discuss what kind of immortality. When I think of an Elixir of Life that cures every illness (as in the real-world concept), I expect the immortality caused by it to also keep the user young, essentially like Rapunzel's hair in Tangled. I mean, old age is the result of cells dying and not regenerating, so a cure-all elixir should be able to cure old age and keep you young and healthy. This would also explain why you need to continue drinking the elixir and not just drink it once to become immortal, since you constantly need to heal yourself from aging.

The only problem with that is that it doesn't really seem to be how the Elixir of Life works.

In the Fantastic Beasts movies, Nicolas Flamel is depicted as old, frail, and decrepit. Now, I don't really consider these movies canon, but the intention seemed to be this even in the first book:

“But that means he and his wife will die, won’t they?” “They have enough Elixir stored to set their affairs in order and then, yes, they will die.”

(PS, 213)

And it was stated on JKR's site before Half-Blood Prince came out that Flamel died before the summer of 1996. It means that the Flamels aren't healed of old age by the elixer, since they die the moment they stop drinking it. If it healed them of old age, it'll take them longer to age and die. So the elixir of life probably acts more similarly to unicorn blood, in that it extends your life, forcing you to remain alive, without actually healing you.

(Which makes me think that even if Voldemort got his hands on the Stone it wouldn't have really helped him)

If we assume Flamel didn't fake his death and the stone works similarly to unicorn blood as I illustrated above, we have a stone that can turn metals to gold and create an elixir that keeps you alive without actually healing you. With how similar the elixir is to unicorn blood and the fact unicorns are considered the purest of animals, like the stone for minerals, unicorn fowls are also colored gold... I think unicorn blood is an ingredient of the Philosopher's Stone in the Harry Potter universe.

In the real-world Alchemical recipes, gold, which is considered the purest noblest metal is one of the ingredients to create the Philosopher's Stone in all the recipes I read. The process of creating the stone then releases and amplifies the powers and purity of the gold into the stone created from it. So, I think, in the HP world, the process is similar, starting from the two most noble and pure ingredients — gold and unicorn blood — and then amplifying them in the process of making the stone.

In Alchemy like in the magic of Harry Potter, intent and intention are just as important as the incantation you recite. So blood taken by force from a unicorn wouldn't work, it's tainted, it isn't noble or pure in the way it was received, so it won't work to create a stone. I think the blood needs to be given from a living unicorn willingly, which I don't think is common. Also, it shouldn't be given just to anyone, if you say buy willingly given unicorn blood, you still won't be able to make a stone out of it. Because the blood wasn't given to you to use. It's all about the intention, I think.

Beyond these two ingredients, it would probably follow a similar recipe to one of the real-world ones. Specifically, the recipe written by the real Nicholas Flamel and is actually referred to as "The Flamel way".

(This method is also called "Star Regulus of Antimony")

There are two ways to create a Philosopher's Stone in this method, but I'm choosing the one that fits with unicorn blood best. Basically, the process is to create a purified spirit of antimony (this is the regulus of antimony), said antimony will be united with gold through long digestion in a closed container with an alkahest (an alkahest is a solvent). In the original recipe this solvent is based on urine, in the HP version it'll be an alkahest made from willingly given unicorn blood. This stone would go through the three stages of color that almost all methods to create the Philosopher's Stone illustrate: black to white, and finally to red.

In the original recipe, the alkahest is referred to as "mercury" (spirit), or the "secret fire", both words that refer to life and the concept of life in Alchemy. So unicorn blood fits well as the life-giving alkahest in the process of creating the Philosopher's Stone.

A trend I've noticed in most online writing communities is that people HATE the editting/revisions stage of writing. Often with a passion, almost? Maybe it's just my hyper-literal brain misunderstanding a bunch of sarcastic jokes but idk?

The first draft is always where I feel least at home with a story. It's messy and too cramped and too open and I wind up with 600 separate docs containing various versions of the story and I'm mostly puzzling them all together but sometimes I can't even be all that sure they're in English because they're such nonsense to my language processor. God Forbid first draft V remembers that settings exist at all or that anything might need to be described in ANY WAY.

I love editting and revisions. That's when I get to watch my stories turn into SOMETHING and not just a garbled string of consciousness desperately trying to cling to themes and context and continuity.

My first draft is just stick-built suggestions of a house, editting and revisions are the walls and the flooring and the furniture and everything that makes the story feel like home. I love that process. It's where I strain all my confidence in my work from, when I finally feel like I'm doing more than yelling into the wind.

Maybe that's the artist in me that dreads starting any kind of illustration but loves the rendering process. Maybe it's the part of me that knows that the life of the work is in the part that AI just can't do - the human hand that adjusts and tinkers and is thoughtful of single lines that maybe nobody will ever notice.

Probably though I'm just a chronic over thinker who likes to be able to find a practical application for something that usually causes me so much trouble.

So, I made a Lucio AU for Overwatch 2. I found out about his backstory and Vishkar had taken their home and his dad worked for them. Omnic crisis went by and Overwatch came to help. But what if Talon found him while Lucio was taking tech from Vishkar for his skates and stuff and helped during the crisis instead of Overwatch. (Like, Talon got there faster that Overwatch and offered to help if Lucio went with them)

I drew him!! It’s after the lore and design rant if you wanna take a look. I also kinda animated what his weapon would look like in gameplay.



I seriously got the idea from listening to Chonny Jash, a cover music artist (idk if he makes other stuff, I have only listened to his covers). His stuff gave me this idea collectively. So songs in the same genre of music would be what this AU of Lucio makes rather than what he actually produces in the game.

I made him use more damaging attacks while still being a healer. He uses a gas similar to Moira’s heal while on that mode, although he doesn’t have the speed boost. He has a damaging attack in his bubble that affects enemies. It is a green gas. All the gasses are visible around him, so if this actually was made in a first person shooter, then the player’s screen would be slightly tinted yellow or green while using either one. I designed him with a gas mask because of this ability. His reload would be different, as his weapon is filled with the poison.(in the visual, the poison is visible as a liquid before being released as a gas (kinda like how a humidifier doesn’t use heat but still works) I was thinking it was an oxidation thing that makes it more deadly and also become a gas, so the tanks are vacuumed sealed) When he shoots, he does his normal sound wave attack, but if the enemy is close enough (and ignoring the poison in the original bubble) they’d get a lasting effect similar to Widow’s venom mine. It would continue until the player left his bubble. Almost all of the speakers on his armor-tech have been changed to where the healing gas or poison are released, and also his weapon is connected to tubes that carry the poison he uses, so it’s connected to his body. I couldn’t find a spot, so I used his shoulder.

Talking about the poison, I wanna talk about where it’s stored. I think in the original game, his hair is made from the light that Vishkar invented(I think it’s called Hard Light, but I’m 60% sure I’m wrong). In this version, the light is used as a wall for it and each loc is used as a storage compartment for the poisonous gas. The loc then connects to the headphones which transfer each compartment into two tubes which bring it to each exit.

I tried to think this through logically due to the science fiction in the game, some logic goes a long way, but also fun AU creation.

Random lore part of this AU: While Talon was going around to important places or whatever they needed to do, they ran into the deadlock gang(in this AU Cassidy never left the gang). They ended up fighting and Cassidy and Lucio got separated. Cassidy managed to sly talk his way to death (with training, Lucio got a shorter fuse and isn’t afraid of ending someone’s life). Lucio ended up ending Cass’s life and out of pure spite, he kept Cassidy’s revolver. So that’s just chilling in his pocket most of the time. I wanna say he’d eventually make use of it by learning how to use it, but that would take awhile and bring me too far into the future than I am at right now.

Note for drawings below: I used a picture of the Overwatch 2 skin and traced it to be able to change the colors. I added a couple details and I also changed the shape a little on the Weapon. (Smoothed down the speakers into just a rounder body of the gun. And I also made the tiny little tube on the bottom longer because of a reason I mentioned in my rant.)

Notes, continued…: For the animation, I just used a picture of someone using the Overwatch 2 Lucio skin and traced the gun and added my edits to the design before animating it.

The Edge of Sleep TV Show Review

I’m pleasantly surprised - Full spoiler Warning for the podcast, book and show.

Okay, so I’m a big admirer of marks projects and his channel. I look up to him as a filmmaker. So when I listened to the podcast I was enthralled. I really love the podcast as it is filled with excellent visual storytelling, narrative and is just overall very interesting to me. the book is another story. I bought the book to support the creators of the podcast, and hearing it was going to be similar to what the show was going to be, I thought “what the hell”. Do I regret buying it? A little. The book is wholeheartedly hard to read, the characters became one dimensional and utterly useless and I hate to say annoying. It was tough and after I finished it, I was annoyed that this was the version the show was going to take after.

Well I just binged the show and while I still think the story from the podcast is better. The TV show is a better version of the book. The TV show took away all the aspects of the characters I hated, kept the new scenes and edited them in a way that wasn’t too in your face and added new things that I wasn’t expecting. The only thing that I am disappointed about is the show and book getting rid of the psycho character from the podcast. It’s the first hint we get about the elephant after Dave’s first dream and the whole psycho arc and how he ends up interacting with the characters was very interesting. So I think keeping at least that side story would’ve elevated the tv show a little more.

I’m also surprised by the acting. I had no doubt that mark was a good actor and has gotten better over the years of working on his own projects but I held a little bit of skepticism for this project because of how long ago it was made. You can kinda tell in the first episode that he’s still kinda getting used to being Dave which is not a bad thing. For someone who is self made, I was expecting this and was impressed that he was able to hone it in quickly as quickly as he did. There’s been a few YouTubers or “influencers” that come out in movies in recent years and it’s usually god awful. By the 3rd episode, mark was no longer Mark.

Honestly, yes intimacy comes with acting but I wasn’t expecting him to go all in. I’ve never seen him as a person to give affection in front of a camera so it was kind of a shock to see it so plainly. And when Katie died his reaction was *muah* chefs kiss. I’m a sucker for angst and hurt/comfort. And him just stuttering and unable to breathe with guilt and anguish really ughhh! I loved it! Screaming in these situations in film is, sorry to say, over done. Usually feels fake. But idk, when he started asking for more adrenaline I felt it. Props. Man props. It was awesome. And i also wanted to mention that as I was watching I noticed that he seemed more at ease (in character) when he was acting against Lio. I’m not sure if it’s because they became friends, if he’s more comfortable using intimacy or love as a source of emotion in his acting, or what but those were, in my opinion, his best scenes. And props to Lio as well, but I know they can act. But I’m praising mark because I know YouTubers that are serious about acting or filmmaking have trouble being taken seriously in Hollywood. So honestly, as a independent filmmaker who looks up to mark, I’m honestly proud to have supported him and will continue to support him in the future.

also, I know it’s essentially his name but a part of me was kind of peeved they put Markiplier in the credits instead of his full name. He’s said in the past that execs and directors and such have only been interested in him because of the amount of followers/subs he has so to me using markiplier just felt like it was because of that. Trying to appeal to his followers or use his name for clout. Obviously it’s whatever makes the show be successful but still. At least as exec producer his full name?? Idk. That’s me.
