ughhhh i'm about to head to the airport for the first of THREE flights to get back home. i was on a later flight originally but i switched to an earlier one bc i was worried my layover in beijing would be too tight but now i have an extra long layover bc there just weren't any better options. this means from the point i leave my hotel to when i, probably, arrive back at my apartment i will have been traveling...~36ish hours? kill me!!

#kat liveblogs her life #kat travels #i originally had a 2.5+ hour layover in beijing #but then my original flight got pushed back to leave at 3PM so that i would only have a 1.5hr layover in beijing #so i called united to switch it and they were like 'ok so there's a 7AM 8AM 9AM 10AM 11AM...and your original 3PM flight'#lol so i'm on the 11AM one now #ALSO after the shitshow of the election this week i paid to bid on an upgrade for my 12hr flight back to the US #and i got it! so at least i'll be in business class for that leg #...then just another 6hr layover in san francisco before a 5hr flight back to DC #then a 45+ min uber ride back to my apt...#god it's gonna be a long travel day

me, a wheelchair user, seeing a "in case of fire use stairs" sign : so just fuck me then, right?

#exactly one (1) time there was a fire DRILL in the hospital during one of my doctors appointments #keep in mind this was a RESEARCH HOSPITAL. somewhere guaranteed to have several wheelchair users #and we just sat in one of the stairwells and the fire alarm went straight through my head and made me cry #and the firefighter was like 'if this was real we'd figure out how to carry you down. but its a drill so we're just gonna chill here'#or something along those lines idk it was precovid so long time ago #and while i was too focused on being extremely anxious and overstimulated mum was PISSED there wasnt a better plan in place #also there are people not in wheelchairs who cant go down 20 flights of stairs wtf #maybe we should idk make fireproof elevators or other accessible fire escape plans #disability #fire escape plans

#my grandpa passed away today #but he’s had Bad Dementia for several years now so i weirdly feel.#almost nothing? or like . maybe im just gonna get hit at random later.#also nobody told me anything until after it happened #like they got my grandma and my mom there to say goodbye levels of had time #but i didn’t get told anything until long after #which i get. i guess. i just don’t want that to be the prevailing theme #like. if something happens and i could get on a flight home i want to get on that flight home u kno #not find out days later #sorting thru some weird feelings.#cuz the man i knew was long gone long ago. and he wasnt . actually particularly a nice man until alzheimer’s happened #like my mom moved out at 16 bc of their relationship #but. he’s gone gone now.
