Very quietly, the one year anniversary of the end of The Horrors passed sometime in the last two weeks.

It was a fantastic year. I am so fucking grateful to be free.

god it's just. this feels like such a relief, narratively speaking?

like, i spent so, so, SO much time in season 1 as a doodler conspiracy theorist trying to figure out how it fit together thematically. like, daddy magic vs doodler magic. they were clearly both so important but i just couldn't ever put a real link between them?

there was the daddy magic stuff happening in the foreground, and the doodler stuff happening in the background, and willy and barry in the middle, touched by one yet seeking the other for sustenance, but there was no concrete link i could figure out outside of baseless speculation.

and it's FINALLY HERE. we FINALLY HAVE THAT LINK. and the missing piece was that the doodler isn't this ancient, primordial being that has always existed. it's new. it's young. it's fucking adam frankenstein, a monster just looking for acceptance from a parent. acceptance that it could never find from any of its hosts - hildy who feared it, barry who idolized and exploited it, henry who hated and buried it. the twins were the closest it ever got to true acceptance but that was fucking shattered when it was brought into their world in an act of profound betrayal and violence

speaking of which, even the fact that it wants to BE in our world so bad is finally explained and explains so much in turn. it was apparently fucking BORN here. it wasn't meant to be in the forgotten realms, it was banished there immediately after birth, and it's been trying to get home ever since! that's why it compelled barry to attempt to build the scrying glass/portal thing. that's why when henry finally completed it it immediately shattered the thing and leapt through. it's been trying all this time to get back to its home, and when it finally succeeds in breaking through with the Stabbening, the people it wants so badly to love it damn an entire world just to send it back again!

and just. fuckin hell. i have more thoughts abt daddy magic and doodler magic and the motivations of the omega daddies and how that all fits together but my brain is dndads mush atm and i think i'll need another few listens to get it all in order and at least semi-coherent but anyway

i haven't been doing it as much since i got a better personal laptop, because i've been doing more of my writing and note-taking in notion and / or scrivener, but something i really love about taking notes on fics in discord [i have a lil writing server that's just me w/ different channels for different fandoms] is that i can go back through a thread and see the ideas taking shape :') there's something very neat about being able to scroll back and take a look at how the ideas were forming in real time. it's easy to forget how much work something was once you have the finished piece & a little distance from the project, and looking through & remembering. oh yeah. this was really hard! but i did it!! is SO neat

Watching Impulse’s stream from the other day and Bdubs joined the game an hour or so in, and Impulse was about to say hi in chat but then stopped, because he hadn’t said hi to anyone else and he didn’t want it to look like he was playing favourites. He was like “sorry Bdubs I have to snub you just like I snubbed everyone else”. Then, after a suggestion from chat, he got around it by saying “hey everyone hope you are all having a wonderful day” and then looked super pleased with himself for that loophole

Doc’s been wandering alone on Empires for 20 minutes, hasn’t seen anyone, has finally discovered a structure. He sees a redstone contraption and just says “if I was Grian right now I would press this button” and then presses it. He’s seen Joel kill Scar in chat, and also that Grian knows Joel by name and is very confused. Doc is convinced this is a UHC. The button released fireworks and now Doc is looking around, worried that he has attracted attention, worried that he’ll be killed if it’s a UHC. Doc is not having a good time right now

Man Ren is practically begging the server to start a revolution. Flaunting his wealth and building with diamonds was taking too long so he decided to claim everything built in spawn and the shopping district with his head.

The funny part is I honestly think he wasn’t expecting the king thing to last this long. He expected rebellions long before now and now he’s just like. What can I do next so they rebel. I have no diamonds please remove me as king why is no one rebelling.

After everyone leaves Tumble Town, except for Scar who doesn’t have enough rockets, Scar sits Jimmy down and tries to explain that Woody is an honourable man, a leader, respected, and that Jimmy should embrace him. Honestly I much prefer Scar’s method here of utilising his charisma rather than Joel’s of just yelling that Jimmy is a toy haha

But like any good fan, you're already one step ahead, because you've spent the last couple days thumbing through Animedia's September issue supplemental, the 100 page Duelist Bible. Strangely, it appears to be in English??? Wow! Thanks Nagumo for translating, Ayu Ohseki for Japanese editing, teasot for proofreading, and ME, FUCKIN' VANNA, for scanning and scanlating this massive booklet!

This gargantuan tome really gets it across that in 1997, you didn't have a fandom wiki or on demand viewing. If you didn't catch and record the episodes, a booklet like this becomes a critical tool for keeping track of everything that's happened up to now, and is also a way for the series creators to tap fans on the shoulder and draw attention to details they want seen but not explained in the show directly. For example, this drops at the close of the BRS, but points out Touga's sword isn't the same in Keiko's duel and in the opening sequence. A thing we don't see cashed in until MUCH later!

This has been a true and absurd labor of love on my part. I even rescanned the booklet from my originals because their quality (decades old lmao) was not worth scanlating. This took a ludicrous amount of time, and has been a main project of mine for over a year now!! I'm so happy to have gotten it done in time for the Something Eternal Watch-Along thread, and I really really hope everyone finds something cool and interesting about it! The really cool thing is this now completes the set of magazine supplementals by the big three magazines made for Utena during its run. We now have fully scanlated this, as well as Animage's June Utena Dossier, and Newtype's November Utena? (Oh My!) UTENA! Take a stroll through memory lane, be they yours or someone else's!
