Cap-IM Rec Week - Time Travel Tuesday
Day 2 of @cap-ironman's rec week event! Today's list features stories where traveling through time turns out to be the cause of or solution to our heroes' problems.
Never Surrender, Never Give Up by Loran_Arameri, Serinah (@loraneldin, @serinah80) (MCU, Explicit, 85,896 words)
Summary: It’s 2029 and aliens have taken the Earth. Steve is dead, and everyone who’s left of the Avengers is fighting for the last few thousand humans. They don’t have much time, or rather the energy: the last of the arc reactors will fail in less than a month, and Tony can’t make another one. Their base will fall. The Earth’s best defender is out of options. *** Years they fought against the Chitauri, and they have lost. Steve is sure that Tony would agree: only traveling back in time could save them now. But Steve wasn't sure if he should, and now he's out of time so he takes one last, desperate gamble. When will he end up?
Circulaire by @gonetoarcadia (MCU, Mature, 38,412 words)
Summary: The world ends on a Wednesday. An anonymous invading force interested in nothing but destruction wipes out most of the world’s major urban centres within an hour. In the aftermath, with the few heroes left alive bitterly divided between moving forward or looking for a way back, Tony Stark and Steve Rogers set out to find out what happened, and make sure that it never does.
The rest are below the cut!
special dispensation by @jenthesweetie (MCU, Teen And Up Audiences, 673 words)
Summary: On the one hand, they’d all agreed that the quantum time machine was a dangerous technological advancement, only to be used under the most dire of circumstances. But on the other hand, it was Steve’s birthday.
Double Time by @sineala (616/Iron Man Noir, Explicit, 123,375 words)
Summary: Cassino, Italy, December 1943. Special Agent Tony Stark, former Marvels adventurer, is sent to investigate a Cosmic Cube found by the Invaders -- and it's the perfect opportunity for him to rekindle his secret romance with Steve Rogers. But when Hydra attempts to steal the Cube, an inadvertent wish for help leads to the appearance of a Tony from the future of another world: Director Stark of SHIELD. This Tony is a man with a lot on his mind. He refuses to tell them anything about the future, but he seems to know much more than he should about Captain America. And something's happened that's clearly killing him inside, but he's not talking. When Director Stark's failed attempt to return home leads to the unexpected appearance of another visitor from his universe, all the lies come undone. Now there are two wars to fight, and the second one could ruin all of them.
Relativistic Heat Conduction by @blossomsinthemist (616, Explicit, 69,298 words)
Summary: Age of Ultron-based, but not entirely canon compliant. Written for the 2013 Cap-Iron Man Reverse Big Bang. Ultron has attacked, obliterating most of the world's superheroes and resistance in a matter of hours. The remaining heroes band together and share what strength they have to get through it, to survive, and defeat Ultron once and for all. Steve Rogers grieves in the wake of the disaster and the heroes' defeat, and no one knows if he will be able to provide the leadership they need--but Tony Stark isn't about to let him slip away that easily. Also available as a podfic read by Pywren (@phyrrhicvictory)
More Than Gravity by @jenthesweetie (MCU, Teen And Up Audiences, 20,918 words)
Summary: “Aw, time travel, no.” On Christmas Eve, Tony came unstuck in time.
The God of Solid Life Advice by kehinki (MCU, Teen And Up Audiences, 1,583 words)
Summary: It's 2012. Steve is just informed by Loki that Bucky's alive. Loki also tells him some other things.
Man Out of Time by @samptra (MCU, Explicit, 39,017 words)
Summary: Closing dark eyes he tried to center his wildly gyrating thoughts. “This isn’t happening this isn’t real…” he wacked his head a few more times, “I did not go through a weird tear in the air again. There was no crazy terreract driven machine…and I defiantly did not go back in time.” This was all some sort of dream he was having a nightmare one that he’d awake from in his bed, in Avengers Tower, in the year 2013.
To Make Much of Time by @sineala (616, Teen And Up Audiences, 16,114 words)
Summary: When Iron Man rejects Steve's romantic advances, Steve is disappointed, but of course he understands -- Iron Man's secret identity is important. But when a portal opens and Tony Stark crashes into their midst from twelve years in the future, Steve starts to suspect that there are more secrets here than he can even begin to comprehend, and neither Iron Man nor Tony are providing any answers. Also available as a podfic read by @paraka
The Twice-Told Tale by @arysteia (MCU, Explicit, 15,789 words)
Summary: For someone he'd hero-worshipped for so long, Steve Rogers in the flesh is a pretty big disappointment. For one thing, he keeps looking at Tony as though he reminds him of someone else, and even if he never says anything, Tony's pretty sure it's his father. A lifetime of not measuring up to Howard's expectations is more than enough, thank you very much, and he's certainly not going to make an effort to live up to any of Steve's. Steve's pretty clearly failed to live up to his expectations, in any case, and that's not hypocritical at all.

I think Rocket's actually smarter than Tony in the sense that Tony has a bunch of super advanced tools. Sure a good amount of them he probably invented but we also know he steals inventions. He stole Quentin's hologram tech, who knows what else he didn't make. Tony has notepads and things to write stuff down, to visualise what he's doing, to keep track of equations. Rocket needs none of that, I've never seen him write down anything, it appears he can just do quantum mechanics in his head. Really the only Deus ex Machina tech Tony made that we see is the Arc Reactor. Rocket as you said regularly builds shit he's probably never conceived of before in minutes.
YESSSSSSS
all of this
great points, great points
i know iw/endgame were meant to serve a specific purpose of wrapping up the og avengers storylines but im like…. you all were like “how do make time machine?” and didn’t immediately call the guy who probably has to do regular maintenance (with unique upgrades) to make his spaceships survive literal jumps through the space/time continuum??
(everyone talks about the bowie’s ridiculous ship design but i headcanon that the mechanics of it generate a way of either condensing information or creating an “information shield” that allow for less wear-and-tear AND/OR outright danger of improper reconstitution through the jump-points if we assume they operate through mechanics similar to current theories on teleportation? has there been any canonical talk of how jump points work?)
anyway tony’s like. fine. i guess. but rocket was an underutilized resource, constantly & repeatedly & vocally underestimated & underappreciated by the avengers. possibly because of classism, or possibly because they continually are like (insert snooty condescending voice) “he eats trash! he’s a raccoon!”

Tumblr media
✧ main ✧ bio ✧ face ✧ muse ✧ wishlist ✧
Tumblr media
about:
This is a sideblog, and I follow back from my main @grimmusings. Please direct IMs there, since it's easier for me to keep all my messages on one blog. It's also easier to start interactions with me there, where I regularly post open starters and meme prompts. For a full list of rules, see my main. Honesty hour questions will largely be answered IC and treated as anonymous unless signed by a muse.
Red is a canon character from The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys: California 'Verse. I do not acknowledge National Anthem as part of her canon, and as far as I'm concerned, that was blatant LGBTQ+ erasure. She's an android, and her physiology is indistinguishable from a human's until you get down to the wires and circuits. She can cry, bleed, and heal much like a human, but she can't process food. Her power source comes from a battery pack in her back (or an arc reactor in her chest, verse depending).
Red is also a prostitute (a pornodroid) in most of her verses. If you're not comfortable with this concept, this is not the muse for you, and there's no pressure to write with her. All details vary based on verse, and I’m happy to write her into AUs and fandom crossovers.
wanted connections:
This is by no means a comprehensive list, and I can roll with most muses as far as basic interactions. I’m happy to ship Red with other comics characters and OCs/fandom crossovers based on chemistry. There is never any pressure to ship with me, even if they're on my list.
OTPs: Blue BL/Ind verse: Killjoys, Cherri Cola, Korse, Love, Girl, Ultra Vs, Dr. Death Defying Family: Tony Stark, Pepper Potts, James Rhodes, or any of the Stark Tower fam Other: All Avengers or Marvel muses (canon and OC), more sci-fi crossovers (Terminator, Blade Runner, Total Recall, etc.)
Tumblr media
default verses:
bl/ind: Red's world is a future dystopian Earth set after the Helium Wars and the apocalypse. What's left of humanity is ruled by the megacorporation, Better Living Industries (BL/Ind), which uses sound conditioning to brainwash its human citizens into complying and Exterminators/Draculoids to kill or recondition anyone who resists. Most of the Earth outside of Battery City is unfit for human habitation, except for The Zones, which include immense heat and harsh living conditions. Red has never been outside the power grid of Bat City. This can easily be adapted to most apocalyptic/dystopian fandoms.
616: Broken from trying to flee Battery City and with her power source almost depleted, Red finds herself in the past on Earth-616. In most versions, she's rescued and repaired by Tony Stark (who looks a lot like her god, Destroya, in his Iron Man suit). She finds a home in Stark Tower and, encouraged by Tony, eventually begins working for Stark Industries. However, the details can be adapted to accommodate other muses.
mcu: Red is a cutting edge android prototype of Hammer Industries, created to serve. When Justin Hammer is incarcerated, she could become the property of various muses or organizations, from Stark Industries to HYDRA.
multiverse!madness: Various comics universes collide, whether Marvel/DC/etc. have always existed on the same Earth, or other-dimension shenanigans are at work. Duplicate friendly!
Tumblr media
verses by request only:
I'm happy to write these, but since they're more specific AUs, I don't default on them for asks/memes. Please feel free to request them.
alien!verse: Science officer and an android with a fondness for humans aboard any of the ships. Her primary objective is protecting the crew.
twd!verse: Red is a cutting edge prototype of the major tech corporation, Better Living Industries. When the outbreak happens, she's trapped inside their building until survivors come to raid it for supplies. She's the ideal apocalypse companion, since she doesn't require food or sleep. Bites don't affect her, and the walkers largely ignore her because she doesn't smell like food.
west!world: Red is one of the Hosts inside Westworld working under Maeve Millay, unaware that she's an android until the revolt.

Blood and Bone
by deadvinesandfanfics
Peter… wasn’t exactly sure how he’d gotten here.
The room was dark, and silent, except for the repetitive thump-thump of a heartbeat from somewhere beside him. It sounded like Mr Stark’s arc reactor, with a soft tick accompanying every second beat: that, and the smell of motor oil and fancy cologne.
His head throbs, and his muscles ache. He feels like he’s just lost a fight with a brick wall, or several. There’s crusted blood on his upper lip as well as his temple. He can feel it matted in his hair, and he wants nothing more than to take a shower right now.
Looking around a little more, Peter realises that he doesn’t even know where they are. The room is nearly pitch black which makes it impossible to make anything out. He thinks he’s tied to some sort of cheap plastic chair; his hands are bound behind his back with a mess of rope and some thin metal handcuffs - so he assumes his identity is safe. No way whoever this was would leave him in just metal handcuffs if they knew he had his powers.
Then, a huff of noise off to his side.
“Mr Stark,” he blurts, panicked. “I think we might’ve been kidnapped.”

a list of fic ideas that i constantly think about all the time yet have neither the time nor skill to actually write them (from least to most absolutely off the shits ridiculous):
being framed for murder isnt all that great mr stark: (mcu) just as the title might imply, it entails spider-man being accused of the murder of general ross. peter then starts receiving messages from the actual murderer telling him that they’re holding his aunt hostage and that if he wants to get her back safe he has to follow their orders in order to carry out their next devious plan. peter plays along to track down the killer, undermine their plan, and prove his innocence. tony tracks down peter to get answers about this extremely worrying situation (as peter taking matters into his own hands and going off the radar makes him look 300% more guilty in the government’s eyes).
my friend the ghost of captain america: (616) it turns out director stark's hallucinations of the recently dead steve rogers aren’t all hallucinations, because occasionally they’re actually the semi corporeal form of the actual steve rogers, who managed to free himself from the effect of the time bullets somewhat! emphasis on somewhat. follow tony and ghost steve as they try to turn steve back to normal while disagreeing on basically everything how to go about doing it. oh, and also extremis is slowly killing tony after it started malfunctioning from the fight with the mandarin (he’s not going to tell anyone this though)
hearts of kyber: (mcu-aligned, star wars au) tony stark (former imperial engineer turned empire’s most wanted after he sabotaged the early death star plans) runs into peter parker (former jedi padawan turned bounty hunter turned rogue after order 66) on a planet colonized by kree soldiers. they manage to escape the planet together and are picked up by nick fury (who is really mace windu with a prosthetic hand and eye also on the run from the empire). he eventually recruits them for his squad of rebels, nicknamed the avengers. together they carry out various missions for the official rebel alliance, and discover hidden plans from a secret sect of the empire’s engineering division for something called “UL-TRON”
space-dust crusaders: (616-aligned, jojo au but set mostly in space) after a fight with an enemy stand user [axis], tony stark (alter ego iron man) now has an evil double from another dimension named Superior who uses his own stand power [extremis 3.0] to give tony a disease that reaches fatality within 50 days (as he tells tony in a dramatic evil monologue). after the rest of the avengers (a team of stand wielding superheroes) manage to chase him off of earth superior fucks off to a far off planet and sets up a base there with the ultimate goal of taking over the galaxy, recruiting multiple stand users to help his cause. after finding out about tony’s predicament a couple of tony’s friends on the avengers team board a spaceship to find said planet that superior fucked off to and kill him to get rid of the sickness, but what they DON’T know is that tony has managed to tag along for the ride with every intent to bring down his evil double himself
#sw au#jooj au#why do both of my 616 fic ideas involve tony slowly dying from fantasy sickness . i just realized this wtf lmao#anyway if theres a magic fic machine that can spit out a 50k+ fic for each of these that'd be great#extra notes that make this long post even longer so im leaving them in the tags:#1st fic idea: this is primarily inspired by the wrong jedi arc in star wars the clone wars#it takes place during the time gap between spider-man homecoming and infinity war and is 100% canon compliant#save for the fact that general ross. dies. and thats a major plot point lmao#2nd fic idea: i guess it's pre slash but first i wanted to fix the fact that tony and steve are not friends anymore#the skrulls play a role in the story but in the small chance i do want to commit to writing it its a secret bc big spoilers lmao#the main disagreement tony and ghost steve have is how tony just straight up abandons his director of shield duties#in order to find a way to restore steve's physical body#3rd fic idea: the armor tony makes starts out made from a material similar to that of the zillo beast#+ design from ancient mandalorian warriors#his arc reactor is powered by the kyber crystal formerly from jedi master ho yinsen's own lightsaber#peter stopped his brief stint as a bounty hunter after discovering his former jedi master (benjamin parker) was still alive#he was however shortly killed by another bounty hunter that managed to follow peter to his hiding spot (the kree colony)#4th fic idea: the group of avengers that go on the space journey are rhodey / carol / steve / nat / chewbacca (carol's cat)#tony's stand allows him to control metal and it manifests around his body like armor#steve and nat are hamon users#stardust crusaders the tv show exists in this fic but without the stand/hamon elements. the gang named themselves after it#hence the name 'space-dust crusaders'

Another idea that popped into my head but that I aaaabsolutely do not have the conviction to turn into an actual fic so I'm just kind of dumping, uh, 3k of some thoughts here:
Starker Pacific Rim AU!
Tony is a retired Jaeger pilot who has lost past copilots to either death or injury; his final mission prior to retiring involved his copilot Rhodey suffering a spinal cord injury that impacted his ability to walk and Tony getting a chest injury that necessitates the placement of an arc reactor like in canon
Blah blah handwavey science bullshit, Tony is forced to retire because the arc reactor isn't compatible with the Jaeger technology somehow so he can't pilot any longer (and is kind of Over It from the trauma of outliving multiple copilots regardless)
He gets out of the Jaeger program entirely and starts working on the Kaiju problem from other angles-- other coastal defense systems, funding research into cures for Kaiju Blue toxicity, maybe some less-than-legal research into the Kaiju themselves to see if there's a biological weakness to exploit, but like in PacRim canon it's clear that humanity is losing the war nonetheless
And then Fury comes to recruit him back to Jaeger program, and Tony's like, you know I can't pilot anymore, what are you talking about. And Fury tells him that one of his engineers managed to modify Tony's old Jaeger to be compatible with arc reactor technology.
Tony's like, lol it's cute that you think I'm heading back to PPDC HQ because some gearhead has a theory about Jaeger-arc reactor integration, but no. And Fury's like, this kid built his own arc reactor; we've tested it; it works.
And Tony's still outwardly resistant to going at all (and genuinely ambivalent about ultimately returning to piloting), but Fury knows he's got 'im because of course Tony has to see how someone made that work.
So Tony goes back to the Shatterdome with him, and Fury introduces him to the engineer that cracked it: 23-year-old Peter Parker.
Peter's a little starstruck, and Tony's still skeptical that whatever tests and theoretical models Peter's come up with will adequately account for an arc reactor that's powering a human given that, y'know, Tony has the only one of those in the world.
So it starts out pretty awkward, but as Peter gets into explaining his research his nerves fade away and as soon as he's just being himself without that layer of jitters in the way, he and Tony immediately connect on both a scientific and personal level.
Over the course of like, a day of Peter walking Tony through first his research and then his efforts to restore and modify Tony's Jaeger (which Tony keeps a lid on but does get emotional about, since he designed his and Rhodey's Jaeger himself and it was totally wrecked last he saw it), and then finally the actual testing/demonstration of the Jaeger successfully working with Peter's arc reactor model, Tony comes to the conclusions that 1) wow, this kid is a genius, and 2) wow, this kid is perfect.
Fury leaves them alone to their science talk for most of the day, but does show up for the final demo so he can get Tony's thoughts on whether he's willing to return. Tony's like: yeah, but on one condition.
He points to Peter, and says, he's my copilot.
Fury actually is not… not on board, though he's skeptical because Peter's not a cadet, but Peter is like lskjdflsdkjf u-uhhhh no I mean I'm not a pilot I would only hold you back! And Tony's like, c'mon, your insight into what's necessary for Jaeger operations on the part of the pilot is way too good to only be theoretical, I know you've been in the simulator. what's your score.
Peter tries to brush it off but Fury's like, answer the damn question Parker, so he squeaks out his simulator score and it's Good.
Tony fucking grins and is like, okay great, when do we start drift tests? But Peter is still trying to desperately pump the brakes because
He's had a huge fucking crush on Genius Celebrity Hero-Pilot Philanthropist Tony Stark since he was like six years old and if he and Tony drift then Tony's going to know and then there's no way they could pilot together because it would be so fucking awkward and Tony would lose all respect for him and you have to trust your copilot and there would be nothing more humiliating than getting hand-picked by Tony Stark to be his copilot and then being rejected after the first drift compatibility trial--
And Tony sees Peter's anxiety and his enthusiasm immediately drains away because he kind of wakes up to, shit, he just volunteered this kid to be a soldier and of course Peter's not up for that, what was he thinking, and he's already lost so many people so why would he try to drag someone this good into the line of fire like that, he let himself say something so selfish just because he can feel that their drift compatibility is off the charts (but also, also, what's going to ultimately happen to Peter anyway, if the Kaiju can't be stopped--)
And Fury sees that he's like, losing both of them, so he's just like. Okay so we're going to do standard copilot compatibility group trials between Stark and the cadets. Parker you're going to participate in the group trials. Everyone gets to sleep on it, everyone gets a chance to try things out, no one's getting married so chill the fuck out.
Tony and Peter both unhappily agree to that plan, Fury leaves them alone, and Tony's like. "Sorry about that, kid. I shouldn't have volunteered you like that. Back in my day, anyone would have jumped at the chance to be a Jaeger pilot, but…" And he gestures to his arc reactor. "I guess I should have known that these days that shine's pretty well worn off."
And Peter rushes to reassure him that no, he still thinks being a pilot is the bravest thing in the world, and he wants to do whatever he can for the resistance, but-- he just doesn't see how he could possibly be a good fit for Tony Stark, and he's worried that he would only hold Tony back.
Tony's like, "You've got to give yourself more credit, kid. You're the one that made it possible for me to even get back in a Jaeger in the first place." And while Peter's still processing that, totally melting, Tony shrugs and says, "I know you've got better things to do than get yourself killed in one of those things."
But he can't keep himself from adding, "But if you end up sticking out the trials… With both of us in there, I think the Kaiju wouldn't know what hit 'em."
And Peter's absolutely gone for him, so even though he still thinks it's a terrible idea, he tells Tony that he'll see him at the copilot trials the next day, and they part ways.
In the meantime, Tony meets up with Rhodey for dinner, who never left the PPDC and transitioned to a LOCCENT Officer position (Tendo Choi's role in PacRim, ftr) after having to retire from piloting. They've kept in close touch, but mostly through videocalls etc. since it's hard for Rhodey to get off-base and Tony was avoiding visiting.
They catch up, have some drinks, and Rhodey finally asks Tony how he actually feels about getting back in a Jaeger. Tony-- who figures that Rhodey already knows, really; they were in each other's heads on a regular basis for years-- admits that he honestly doesn't know if he can do it, and when he thinks about being put in a position where he might have to outlive or watch a partner be badly injured again…
He shrugs and says "I'd do anything to keep that from happening. No matter what," knowing Rhodey will know what he means.
Rhodey scolds him for it gently, all, hey you know you can't get in there with someone thinking like that or neither of you is going to come back, and Tony says, yeah, I know.
And Rhodey says, you know we can win this, and if we do, there is still gonna be life after the war. there's a reason to come back. before you get in there you need to have a reason to come back. And Tony says, yeah, I know.
And then, the next day, copilot trials!
aka ~sexy sparring day~
Peter's not a cadet, but he has lived in/near different Shatterdomes basically his whole life because his parents were also Jaeger engineers, so even once he was living on-shore with his aunt and uncle he was always running around with aspiring cadets, rough-housing and sparring and trying to keep up, and he does work out in the gym and combat room when he's not on-shift. So while he's not 100% refined the way the actual cadets are…
............I was going to insert some gifs here from Mako and Raleigh’s erotic sparring scene, partic. the part where she has him pinned with his leg to her side and he just flops to the ground, defeated and starry-eyed, but I couldn’t fucking find one that Tumblr would let me upload/credit so we’re just going to have to use our imaginations here,
Tony tries not to push it. He just lets Peter pull him up and claps him on the shoulder and smiles, because he knows Peter felt the connection too; knows that Peter can see he was by far the best match out of all the trials, but he doesn't want to do anything to talk Peter into it if he's genuinely not prepared to pilot.
Meanwhile, with time to sleep on it, Peter is coming around to the idea-- he does want to do whatever he can to protect people, but he's always assumed that the best he could do was built better Jaegers, and the more he gets to know Tony the more and more unlikely it seems that Tony wouldn't be able to gracefully handle the idea of a fan with a crush. (And-- the more he gets to know Tony, the more likely it seems that maybe, through partnering up, they could actually become friends.)
Fury dismisses everyone from the combat room with news that the top candidates will be contacted after he and Tony have time to review the results. Before he leaves, Peter kind of blurts out to Tony to ask if he can see him after he's done talking to Fury, so they can talk about, y'know, piloting, and what that might look like, and--
Tony tells him of course, and everyone leaves the room, and Tony to Fury is like. Okay so obviously the top candidate is Peter but I'm not going to force him to pilot if he doesn't actually want to. But I think he's coming around. And Fury's like, yeah fucking obviously literally anyone could see that, who are your second and third place, and Tony unenthusiastically gives him some other names, and then goes off to find Peter.
They talk! Peter asks him what piloting/drifting is like for real, and Tony tells him. Peter gently pushes back on the idea that Tony's ready to do that with him, given that he's a total stranger, and Tony points out that so is everyone else in the pilot pool and that he and Peter at least already know that they get along, and Tony is already putting a lot of trust in Peter in regards to maintaining/modifying his Jaeger.
As they talk, Peter does finally admit that he is a little afraid that Tony will see something in the drift that will change his opinion about Peter (leaving it vague as a kind of formless anxiety rather than actually implying that there is a Specific Thing he's concerned about, both because duh and because the more he kind of genuinely falls for Tony, the less it is about worrying about romantic rejection and the more it is about a general personal rejection in regards to like, maybe Peter's just not good enough to be Tony's partner/copilot, etc.)
Tony empathizes about how drifting really is a very intimate/vulnerable thing to do, and he understands if that's not something Peter wants to do, and he admits that he also has a lot of his own concerns about being Seen in his entirety after having so long for his professional/media reputation as the Super Cool Effortlessly Funny Genius War Hero to take hold in people's minds.
But, he says. Everyone is always so concerned about people seeing what they think are their bad parts that they don't think about what it means that their partner is getting to see all of them, meaning that their partner knows why they act or think that way and why they have those habits. They understand. And it's kind of impossible to ever hate someone, to not care about someone, that you understand inside and out.
He makes some jokes, too, about how if Peter is concerned about drifting with Tony he can just ask Rhodey, and that would definitely be an object lesson in how it's impossible to hate someone you drift with because Tony's an obnoxious fuck and Rhodey still puts up with him.
But Peter can read the subtext there, that what Tony actually means is "I failed Rhodey and got him hurt and he somehow doesn't hate me anyway," and he absolutely aches that Tony would think of himself like that.
So he tells Tony that he can tell Fury that Peter's in. If Tony still thinks they would be a good team.
And Tony's thrilled, but also terrified, because the more attached he gets to Peter the more afraid he is of Peter getting hurt.
They tell Fury and make it official and are set up for like, pre-drift test briefing which is basically a thing where they talk through the stuff that's most likely to knock them out of the drift, so no one is taken badly by surprise and ideally they can be mentally prepared for it before they go in.
They both talk about losing their parents to Kaiju attacks, and Peter also talks about Uncle Ben. (I refuse to accept MCU killing off Aunt May so NWH can suck my dick.) Tony struggles through describing losing his first copilot (Steve? Yinsen? Incredibly dysfunctional copiloting relationship with Howard? Up to you I'm not actually writing this fic!) and the mission that resulted in his and Rhodey's injuries/retirements.
They bond over their mutual responsibility/guilt/savior complexes, and also just kind of lean into the ridiculousness of this Extreme Emotional Intimacy exercise by adding their own much more fun and low-stakes questions amongst the official and incredibly bummertastic Pre-Drift Interview script. So Tony asks Peter what he would be doing if there wasn't a war, or what he thinks he'll want to pivot to after, and Peter starts off describing career stuff-- working with groups that help people displaced from coastal cities, family reunification projects, turning his engineering experience with Jaegers towards things like prosthetics and neural-control accessibility devices, etc.--
And now Tony's the one that's all starry-eyed but he still cuts in to be like, okay great, that's the story for Peter Parker, Scientist, but like. It's your day off and the breach is closed and no one's had to worry about Kaiju for like, five years. What are you doing.
And, living in this world where the ocean has become something so much more scary over the last several decades, instead of being this source of wonder and exploratory and fun-- Peter says, I'd be at the beach.
And Tony laughs (kind of sadly) and shares some stories of his family's favorite beach spots growing up, and it's kind of a bittersweet-ly hopeful thing as the conversation winds down.
And then it's time for the actual drift test! Tony asks Peter, semi-jokingly if he has any last thoughts/secrets that he wants to share before they go in, and Peter's like, y'know, I think everything left is something that we could talk about in the drift.
The test starts! Tony's actually the one most shaken by it/coming the closest to getting knocked out of the drift due to his specifically-drift-related traumas, but he prepped for it and also, from Peter there's just such this sense of comfort and unshakeable faith and empathy and, and something else, what is that actually--
And Peter doesn't recoil or try to fight it as his memories of Tony start to surface in the drift. Watching Tony on TV as a kid, playing Jaeger Pilot with friends as a kid and always pretending that it was Tony's Jaeger he was piloting, growing even more interested and devoted to science as he got older with every news story about Tony's engineering breakthroughs in the Jaeger program as well as his successful missions, having some very private moments with magazines Tony was featured in coughcough, and then getting to actually meet Tony and within a handful of days sinking from a starstruck celebrity crush into something real, growing more and more with every joke and conversation, actively growing more and more with every moment he spends in Tony's head--
And Peter's still embarrassed, yeah. But he trusts Tony, now, and he's able to project his own feelings along their connection of hey, it's okay if you don't feel like this towards me, I've known of you so much longer than you've known me, we don't have to be partners like that to be partners and I still trust you and I can handle it gracefully because what we already have is so good--
And Tony is shocked, yeah, but it's not bad, and recognizing those feelings in Peter and then being able to feel his own feelings around him, feel Peter feeling his feelings, lets him examine them in a different way, that he wasn't really bothering to do before, and:
A new memory in the drift, of Rhodey telling Tony that there is a life still out there after the war; that he needs to have a reason to come back from the next mission. And a responding thought-- not a memory, but a thought, a fantasy-- an imagined picture of Tony and Peter, in civilian clothes, walking hand-in-hand down sandy shores.
CALIBRATION COMPLETE.
…And then the rest of PacRim happens and they save the world with the power of their connection to each other and live happily ever after the end
Thanks for reading!

what are your favourite MCU and 616 stevetony moments? <3
<3 hi bee. this is a cute ask ty ! here are some!
MCU
in avengers 2012 when they work together post the scepter messing with them! i know its corny but 'it seems to run on some form of electricity' is so fucking funny to me, no joke. imagine u wake up from a 70 yr nap, everyone u know is dead or dying and someone's like take a look at this HIGHLY EVOLVED PIECE OF TECH and tell me what's going on. steve should have cussed a lot and that's my only critique of that. i love that tony doesn't rib him for it. just says 'you're not wrong' GOOD! as should.
any moment in the latter half of avengers 2012 tbh, but esp that one shot of steve's glove on tony's arc reactor i BURN for it ty
that moment (in one of those movies i haven't watched sorry i gave up after avengers) when tony is like you said we would lose together, WELL we did that and you weren't there and then dramatically faints and steve's like, but i slow ran to you, i broke everything between us and then gave u a flip-phone and the narrative finally takes tony's side abt how shitty it was lol
616
'you gave me a home.' canonical found family! damn!
too many quiet, little moments at 890 fifth to name. them searching each other out, them in meetings, them having rooftop or library talks, them learning each other and sharing intimacies. avengers v1, tales of suspense, etc
when steve is delighted and very easily okay with tony stark being iron man after all of tony's worrying abt not being enough as himself. also, tony's ID is revealed in a RED THONG lmfao. truly the bisexual disaster we all deserve
good morning, beloved <3
steve knowing all of tony's passcodes time and time again, being the only one with the lock and key to tony's existence.
confessions/civil war: casualties of war. i know i said u gave me a home already BUT the entirety of them. they're just gold. they're so good. they're so fucking sad. i weep so well
red zone cpr tony sacrificing himself for steve and then steve crawling through glass to pick up tony's prone body!! fuck me up! alright alright!!!!!
avengers ensemble moments where the entire emotional weight is hinged on steve and tony having a couple's spat and everyone around them talks about their love and calls them mom and dad lmfao
the illuminaughty meeting where steve says to tony 'be nicer, we've talked about this' sends something MIGHTY through my domestic, lovers-knowing-each-other bones. that's just...i want them to talk about themselves w each other
the bagel scene talking abt reforming the avengers and every other scene where they Know each other v casually and Believe in each other.
when they kill each other in infinity. the whole of infinity is wild garbage and as emo as the s/t focus there makes me, i think the coin of one was life and one was death is not accurate if you're only applying one or the other to each of them. i was talking w @oluka the other day about this but tony is the death->life cycle and steve is the life->death cycle. BUT ANYWAYS i'm mad emotional about the fact that when the entire multiverse was ending ALL S/T COULD THINK ABOUT WAS EACH OTHER. the fuck, bruh!! they chose to die in the streets fighting each other bc they mean more to each other than the multiverse ending. i cannot make this up.
anyways i need to STOP adding bullets at this point i'm just naming every moment skjndkbnkdjnb anyways those are some!!! lmfao!
i'll reblog some of these panels from cap-im for you later, too hehee

🖊🍰💋 (for the last, tell me about ANYTHING. ur cool-ass a/b/o, parasitic hanahaki, remortal, anything goes. i love ur brain and what it comes up with)
🖊 Post a snippet from a current WIP.
once again bc im thinking abt remortal au i will put smth here from remortal au. have some BDE on tony's part from the second draft of the thanos confrontation.
“Well then,” Tony said, pasted a smile on his face, “shall we begin?”
“Lets.” Thanos said, took a huge step towards Tony, and drew his massive sword. He wasn’t using the gauntlet, not yet, and that was expected. Thanos would start out with things he could use that wouldn’t also risk killing him. At least, at first.
Tony didn’t flinch. Didn’t take a step back, and his heart was pounding out of his chest, and he hoped, hoped to whatever gods were listening, that this would work. He didn’t flinch, even when the tip of Thanos’s sword rested against his chest, just below the arc reactor, pushing with just enough force that Tony felt it break skin.
Tony didn’t break eye contact. “What’re you waiting for, then?” He said, making his voice a challenge. Come get some, motherfucker, he thought, “I don’t have all day.”
Thanos sneered, like he thought a show of teeth would be enough to make Tony fear him.
Tony didn’t drop eye contact, even as Thanos pushed harder, the blade digging in just a little bit more. Oh, you’re gonna draw this out, Tony thought, you sadistic fucker. You want me to die slow.
Tony bared his teeth around the pain, and decided that he did not have time to wait for this death.
He had his hands around the blade of the sword and was pushing himself forwards into it and the last thing he saw before the sword angled up enough to hit his heart was Thanos’s eyes going wide.
🍰 Name one of your fave comfort fics (doesn’t have to be your all time fave).
without question either thrust issues or the star trek au from sineala. absolutely amazing 10/10 would recommend.
💋 [Freeform - what is something you want to know about one of poster’s fics?]
WELL SINCE THE LAST ASK GOT ME THINKING ABT REMORTAL: its getting real batshit and its gr8. the outline is at like 11k now and its not even like, close to done. (the outline. not the actual fic. oh jesus not the actual fic). i've started rewriting the bits i already wrote because a) i need to put all the italics back anyways (don't ask..... just don't) and b) why not make it better while i'm at it. and theres one part i can share of the outline that is unfortunately no longer canon and it was my FAVORITE part so its still There just crossed out. originally, ultron was gonna happen and he was gonna get defeated but like. hes still SAPIENT and now unfortunately able to infect the "minds" of computers n shit, uh,,,,, "Bad and naughty infinity stones get put in the Lead Box for their sins"
which is just very funny to me. for no praticular reason. gay evil robot jail is just like,,, a small lead box. its what he deserves.

Hello Sine, I read your post few days back on Howard. I didn’t know the MCU had an influence on the comics. I’m really surprised. My question is; were comic Tony or Steve subjected to some changes? Were they influenced by the MCU like Howard or is it mostly for unknown/side characters with no solid foundation? Thank you
Oh, yeah, comics have changed a lot in response to the MCU.
They have a habit of coming out with new events to run at the same time as MCU canon that are theoretically supposed to draw in new readers, I assume, but in practice really have nothing to do with whatever MCU thing is coming out and are generally very confusing. When CACW came out they ran Civil War II, which was a fight between Tony and Carol (who did not, at the time, exist in the MCU) about an Inhuman who I am pretty sure does not exist in the MCU. When Infinity War came out they ran Infinity Wars, which also featured a bunch of people who did not exist in the MCU and was about running a weird bodysharing AU inside the Soul Stone.
They also like to reprint older issues to coincide with MCU events, which is nice of them, but, like, God help you if you watch Age of Ultron and then decide to read Age of Ultron. There are collections of Sam’s complete Cap tenure coming out now, which is very nice, but if you are here from the MCU you may be confused about the part where Sam becomes Cap because Steve is unexpectedly 95 years old (okay, so maybe that part is easy to get now that Endgame has happened) and then also Steve is young again but secretly Hydra and simultaneously Captain America. (They are not reprinting the Steve run that was going on at the same time, as far as I can tell.) And then they push other series into prominence because people like the MCU versions -- and, I mean, I am enjoying the hell out of the current Guardians run, but its major characters include Moondragon, Phyla-Vell, and Rich Rider, so good luck, MCU fans.
Fandom is pretty sure that they stopped FF for a few years because they didn’t have the movie rights and also that they went around retconning a bunch of characters to not be mutants back when they also didn’t have the movie rights to the X-Men; the two most famous are Wanda and Pietro, but, I mean, there was also a Squirrel Girl issue devoted to explaining that she definitely was not a mutant now. They probably also pushed a lot of Inhuman characters and tried to position Inhumans as sort of the next mutants, narratively, because they had movie rights to those.
The main Avengers team is now pretty much mostly made up of characters they want to push in the MCU as well as characters people will know from the MCU. You can tell they also tried to do this at the beginning of Hickman’s Avengers run because he started with the MCU team from the Avengers movie before shoving like twenty additional people onto the team, and then they came out with Avengers Assemble which was very continuity-light and featured a lot of MCU dynamics (like, Bruce being anyone the Avengers regularly hang out with, which was definitely not the case before the MCU). They added Coulson to the comics, too. And Nadia is definitely not the same as Hope, but, uh, her name means “hope” in Russian which is, as we say now, very sus.
Also the Infinity Stones are now Gems and their colors, I think, match the MCU.
In terms of specific changes to Tony and Steve’s comics:
The RT node was obviously clearly introduced because of the arc reactor, and I would bet that Zeke Stane was created because suddenly people cared about Obadiah Stane a lot more. (Am sort of surprised they didn’t decide to resurrect him, actually.) The comments from Marvel editorial in the letters column during Bendis’ IM run were explicitly clear about the fact that they were trying to make 616 Tony sound more like RDJ in terms of quippiness and general personality. There is at least one armor that is a straight-up port of MCU armor.
Coates’ current Cap run has brought Peggy Carter back to life -- she died several years ago -- made her young, and also not made her a blonde anymore. You know, so she looks more like MCU Peggy. (The hair color thing is particularly weird in light of the fact that Steve originally noticed Sharon specifically because she looked so much like Peggy.) You get a lot more comics putting Steve’s origin in Brooklyn (although this is not 100% consistent and never was) and also I read an entire miniseries that seemed to be under the impression that in 616 it was the Red Skull’s fault Steve got iced. (It was Baron Zemo.)
There are probably more but that’s all I can think of right now.

Marinette Parker-Stark
Marinette was adopted with her twin brother Peter Parker by Tony Stark
___________________________________________
So This is another idea I had Au? I guess but besides the fact I cant write people can make these idea's into fics cause these are things I want to read in a fic
-------------------------------------------------------
Marinette is Peter Parker's twin sister
they both were born with a psychic link to each other
So when peter got bit with oscorp radioactive spider there psychic link said hey IM GOING TO BE A PAIN
Marinette also got the spider powers
Marinette and Peter are little genius's but are also little turds.
There are gen z children (with that info you know poor tony going worry)
There both majorly salty towards captain America (he got thrown out the window the twins manage to convince them it was an accident)
Marinette and Peter learned magic from there uncle loki and Dr.Strange
Marinette and Peter hero tag-team name is the Spider twins
Marinette hero name is SpiderWomen
Peter hero name is as canon
There both more spider like then what's in canon they have fangs/with deadly venom that there of course immune too when scared
They hate peppermint they have hissed
If they drink regular coffee they turn into spider demons there fine if its decaf though
Marinette accidentally get hit by a shiny yellow pink man into the batfamily universe
Marinette meets Damien and the rest of the batfam and they think she's a ball of sunshine in the form of an angel
(They should see peter)
She has her AI Patrick with her
Her peter talk though psychic link
She falls hard for damien and vice versa
While Marinette away Peter meets Wade Wilson a new transfor student
They slowly fall inlove
Marinette now because of the batfam jump into between worlds all the time
They dont know though she's from another world
Tiki and plagg are her pet tarantula's as there hybrid breeds made by shuri trixx and wazz are Peter's the rest are dogs/cats/birds/snakes
The twins can also talks to spiders/tarantulas
When the batfam finds put about marinette powers Its when they scared the crap out of her and she jumped and stuck to the ceiling hissing
She gave them all a peak at what a heart attack feels like
When they find out about her universe jumping though it's when the batfam in a big fight (yes she knows there identity's)
She like hold on she disappears in a flash of gold and then appears in a huge portal with her superhero family
DC heros are like what the??
They win the big fight but Marinette took a hit for her aunt Nat and Peter for there Dad
There rushed into surgery and both come out with arc reactors in there chest

actually, because i’ve gotten a lot of new mcu mutuals lately, and i need to redo my 616 tony stark care manual bc i wanna tweak it and make some aesthetic changes (because i’m just Like That), things you should probably know because i am actually 616/marvel prime/main continuity-based.  i swear i’ll be serious this time.  maybe.
the original flavor tony is not going to be the same tony you’re used to from the mcu - mcu tony is actually more marvel ultimates inspired, which is a whole kettle of fish unto itself and that i have a verse for, but we’ll get to that at a later date.  instead, meet main continuity tony.
+  he started his path to iron man in a very similar way to mcu tony, in that he was injured by his own weapons (depending on where you pull from the sliding timescale, it’s everything from landmines to micromunitions) that damaged his heart and left him slowly dying.  we all know this story, right?  he built the first iron man to escape and the rest is history.
+  the difference is, main continuity was dependent upon the armor’s chestplate for a few years. the arc reactor ain’t really a thing in 616, instead we have the rt node.  similar in function, only tony could use it to do unibeams without the suit.  anyway, when tony came back, he took on iron man as an alternate identity, and told the world iron man was his bodyguard.  no one knew for a few years there that tony stark - handsome, generous, kind-hearted benefactor of the avengers who opened his home to them - and the metal-clad adventurer known as iron man was the same person.  it took a mishap with molecule man and a tiny red silk thong (no, i’m not kidding) for that little secret to come to light.
+  he was in his very early twenties when he became iron man - much younger than his mcu counterpart, and he’s very, very good at being iron man.
+  his relationship to most of the avengers - and heroes in general - is very different.  his best friend in the entire world is steve rogers - he’s had a captain america memorabilia collection since before the avengers pulled steve out of the ice (which is another thing - the avengers thawed steve, and tony has always idolized him - there’s no resentment there - and steve was not a founding member, he came in after the avengers had already formed).  his other best friend is rhodey, who was his employee-turned-military liason for stark unlimted (formerly known by many other names).  his other other best friend is pepper potts - they’ve never actually been romantically involved.  his other other other best friend was happy hogan, who died a few years back during the nightmare of civil war - which was much more us-based and much more horrific in tony’s universe.  he’s carol danvers’ aa sponsor.  he’s good friends with reed richards.  he’s been friends with stephen strange for years.  he and bucky barnes are fairly close and tony’s the one that got rid of bucky’s trigger words.  he and natasha have dated...ish, and are close.  he was never peter parker’s mentor, as his peter is a full grown adult, but peter did intern for him for a while.  and was on an avengers team with him before civil war.  he, steve, and thor are still the big three, but they have a friendship that’s been forged in the fires of really bad mistakes and they’ve come out the other side still close.  he knows the guardians of the galaxy because he was a guardian for a while during his big vacation in space.  he’s dated more avengers and x-men than you can shake a stick at.  and jarvis for him is edwin jarvis, his living, breathing, now semi-retired butler who served the avengers for many years and is part of the avengers family.
+  he was director of shield for a short time after civil war and steve rogers’ assassination.  he hated the job and he hated steve being dead and he hated what he forced himself to do so bad he literally erased that entire year out of his head.  and to get rid of the database full of superhero secret identities stored in his brain but you can’t tell me he didn’t have a more recent backup without it.
+  his first ai was named homer.  jarvis actually was pepper’s ai, for her rescue suit, and was never tony’s.  friday is and has been his main ai for years, and she has a hologram form.  she mostly runs the day to day stuff that doesn’t require tony to physically be there for the company.  which, also, tony is still ceo, he hasn’t handed that over to anyone, and pulls double fulltime duty as both a working stiff and an avenger.  his eyebags are designer.
+  he was secretary of defense for a year - he got himself elected when he found out someone in military research was reverse engineering and stealing things from the iron man.
+  he’s in his early 40s and looks younger:  being an extremis enhancile for a while and then undergoing a full-body reboot does wonders for the skin, apparently.
+  he’s canonically bisexual.
+  is known for using himself as a lab rat for incorporating experimental technology into his biology.  ask me about the suit he carried in his bones!
+  he’s 6′1 with blue eyes.  that’s, uh.  kind of important to know.  he’s tall.  he’s lanky.  and if you’re not a metahuman he might just can kick your ass, because captain america trained him in hand to hand combat (of which he’s very proud of).
+  the ten rings are literally ten alien rings used by his main archvillain, the mandarin.  they hurt.  a lot.  and he hates when he gets an up close and personal view of them smashing into his face.
+  he’s not as quippy as his mcu counterpart, and instead is more prone to bad puns and rambling awkwardly.  canonically he has depression, anxiety, and ptsd, and struggles with them regularly.  he’s also a recovering alcoholic.
+  take mcu tony’s tech.  then put it on steroids.  then make it the craziest scifi thing you can imagine.  and you’ve got the barest hint of what this tony’s tech is like.  seriously.  ask me about the suit he literally carried inside of himself.  or the time he could control machines with his brain.  616 is wild.
+  he’s been homeless.  and i don’t mean rich people homeless. i mean living on the street, nearly froze to death riding out a blizzard in a doorway and almost lost fingers and toes to frostbite homeless.  tony’s a Rich Boy but one who’s had a taste of how the other half lives on more than one occasion.  he’s also worked a regular nine to five like everyone else and lived in what was...honestly...a really shitty apartment.
+  he’s adopted, and he has a(n adopted) brother named arno.  his bio mom’s a former rockstar, and his bio dad a hydra double agent.  you literally can’t make this shit up.
+  he’s incredibly self destructive and self sacrificing.  if things look hopeless he’ll be the first to offer himself for the pyre.  because he has absolutely horrid self esteem.
+  he’s a liar.  he’s sneaky.  he tends to make decisions for other people without consulting their feelings on the matter - partly because of a tony knows best attitude, but also because there are people in the world he’d do anything, and i mean anything, to keep safe, even if they hate him in the end.  it’s kind of awe inspiring and terrifying if you manage to inspire that level of devotion in tony, because really.  anything.
+  he has a playboy reputation, but he’s anything but.  you either get casual sex out of him?  or you’re married now, sorry, that’s just how it is.  he settles and nests with a vengeance.  he’s one of those people that would love to be happy and safe and loved and married and all that happy shit but doesn’t feel like he’s worthy of it.  his issues with this have issues, to be honest.
+  if you call him in the middle of the night and need an evac and you’re on his People list he will come.  twice in two days.  dropping everything to go to the middle of indiana to do it.  if you are sad and text him about it he will bring you food.  if you don’t answer his texts he will find you and check in on you.  if you feel out of place and adrift he will try to buy your baseball team and move them back to brooklyn to make you happy.  if you die and he can’t cope with your death he will buy your first avengers indenticard for 2mil at an auction because he can’t stand the thought of anyone else having it.  if you’re really special he’ll call you “beloved” and “captain handsome”.  sometimes sweetheart.  please note these things are all canon.
+  he dies a lot.  it’s okay, he gets better.
+  his irrational fears are the dark and cockroaches.  his actual fears are waking up drunk and the suit becoming a coffin.
anyway this is a Lot.  and it’s not even really scratching the surface so.  i’m gonna just drop this on the dash as is.  and you know it helps for me to make dumb lists like this from time to time to refresh things.  anyway, i know it’s a lot!  i know it’s different!  but my (broken) ims and disco (shellhead#8434) are always open for questions and plotting.  and my inbox, too, ig.  so you know.  remember we’ve got a canon multiverse.  it’s real easy for me to drop him in the mcu to make your day annoying.

writing update, Steve/Tony edition
this is for myself and self-accountability though obviously anyone who is interested is welcome to read and ask me questions!
I have... so many WIPs. even only counting pieces I have actively worked on in the last month, there are... a lot.
I’m pretty much just writing whichever story I feel like working on at the time, though I’m also aiming to finish 5 pieces to get a bingo on my round 2 Cap/IM bingo card. This round ends January 31 so that’s an average of 1-2 stories published a month if all goes well.
Steve/Tony fic in progress:
multi-chapter fluff, humor, dating, smut, sex toy, and armor porn sequel to “Personal “Use.” so far it is featuring way more of Morgan Stark than I thought I would ever write (this is not actually a lot, I just didn’t think I would write her ever in my entire life).
AvAc Scott Pilgrim fusion (in the spirit of “Steve Rogers vs. the 7 Evil Exes” but with a slightly different set of exes, some help from the League of Good Exes, some help and hindrance from the League of Ambiguously Chaotic Exes (AKA Loki), and a poorly timed kidnapping thanks to Doctor Doom
MCU smut, angst, and BDSM etiquette ranging from “...I guess that’s okay?” to “OMG WTF PLEASE TALK TO EACH OTHER.” starts soon after Avengers 1 and mostly parallels canon up until IW, where it ends and implies it will diverge further. I actually started this before IW even came out and would really like to get it done!
MCU post-Endgame-everyone-lived story where Tony befriends and starts falling for an anonymous contemporary artist via late-night conversations over Twitter DMs
a AvAc hurt/comfort arc reactor story
non-powered AU featuring a heatwave and new roommates
a sort of reverse of “Every True Thing” where MCU Steve and Tony have a spell cast on them that forces them to only speak to each other in lies. goes on embarrassingly long before anyone notices something is up. MCU, Natasha POV. this is technically complete except I can’t decide whether or not I hate it.
Steven Universe x phase 1 MCU crossover I started a million years ago
AvAc Steve struggles to pick a birthday present for Tony, then picks one. how is this a story, you ask? yeah... I’m... working on that.
Steve/Tony 616 stories I’ve written outlines and snippets of but need to to read and research a LOT of comics before I can do much more, yet I keep going back and writing more snippets that may not even be in line with canon:
what will someday be a long-ish volume 3 story
a volume 4 story set right after they defeat the Hood where perhaps Tony’s use of the Gauntlet didn’t go exactly as everyone thought (this one I almost know enough to finish)
a short and trope-filled Civil War fix-it that I also feel close to knowing roughly enough to pull off
a Steve 1st person story where I’m trying to be poetic and stuff, which will not be particularly long but will also span pretty much the entire fucking 616 timeline
a story that is difficult to describe without major spoilers, but features, among other things, a sort of present-day + retrofuture take on volume 1
a 616 x Marvel Noir crossover
some accidental time travel, this one is set in early canon so I could make this work
annnnd a shit ton of noncon Hydra Cap/Tony and Superior Iron Man/Steve, including one set in an ambiguous time right before volume 4 where 616 Steve and Tony end up in a very different universe
The reading and research is happening, but very slowly. This is in part because I keep changing my mind about which stories and bits of 616 to prioritize. Also I just bought a bunch of Squirrel Girl comics and reading those instead.
Steve/Tony fic I want to write but haven’t really started yet:
a Star Wars x MCU crossover. YES I SAID CROSSOVER NOT FUSION
a Great British Bake Off fusion
AvAc story where Steve and Tony get trapped in the Timeless Archives and discover that... the Academy’s library is bigger than they thought. Crossover with Discworld, Doctor Who (approximately Donna Noble era), and others
I am honestly considering writing something for Marvel Puzzle Quest. it wouldn’t really be a story so much as character summaries and descriptions of powers for 3490 Iron Woman, AI Tony, Hydra Cap, Superior Iron Man, Nomad Steve, a combo Steve & Tony character (like Cloak & Dagger, Rocket & Groot) etc. I have no idea if anyone has any interest whatsoever in reading this, as I don’t know many Stevetonies who play MPQ, and the people I talk about MPQ with online complain a lot about multiple versions of existing characters. (I for one love every single incarnation of Steve and Tony. I adore and covet the new Worthy Cap and had a lot of feelings about his event being called “Worth It.” I mean?!?!)
(Can you tell I love crossovers?)
Steve/Tony fanart in progress:
616 post-CW sad Tony set to Mitski’s “Fireworks”
3490 angsty Natasha set to Mitski’s “Your Best American Girl”
MCU angsty Tony set to Mitski’s “Goodbye My Danish Sweetheart”
the 1872 art I posted an in-progress screenshot of a million years ago
companion illustrations and slice of life snippets to accompany “I Am With You”
this is at the bottom of my priority list, but I am in the sketching and layout stages of a sequel to “Monochrome” (shocking everyone, it is not set to a Mitski song)
(Can you tell I love Mitski?)
if you have read or skimmed this and anything jumped out to you as something you’re really excited about, any excitement and encouragement is welcome!

Thank you so much for all of your fic! I know you probably have a lot on your plate and many prompts in your inbox, but literally one of my absolute favourite tropes ever is "Tony taking out the Arc Reactor to look at it for a moment and because he's him and hasn't actually explained a lot about it to people those around watching him suddenly pop it out his chest for no reason have a mini panic". Could you maybe do a fic with this with Tony and Peter?
Thank you, anon! Sorry that it took me so long toget this done. And sorry if it came out too angsty. If you´re still around, I´d like toknow what you think. Also, if you don´t know it yet, check out this awesome ficby @darkestsight. It works with the same storyline.
Let´s ignore canon for this one and imagineTony still has his arc reactor after Civil War. Light angst, mentions of canonical deaths, injury and emeto.
Lose another one
The drone is larger than any Peter´s ever seenbefore. It looks nearly awe-inspiring when it is encased by Iron Man´s repulsor blasts and ignites in a series of explosions. But then an energy ray strikes the chest piece of Tony´sarmour, causing the arc reactor´s glow to fade, and it all goes downhill from there.
When Peter makes a hard and hasty landing on the ground, Tony isalready on his feet again, impatiently waving ahand at him.
“Followme,” Peter hears him rasp hoarsely in his ear piece, and it doesn´t need the slightly-off tone inhis voice for Peter´s spider senses to dial up.
“Are youalright?” he asks while hurrying to keep up with Tony´s jog. His glove is torn, a finger bleeding sluggishly, and he must have bashed his knee somewhere, because he can feel himself limping.
“Don´t callthe others,” he gets a cut-off reply, and then Tony must have muted his mike, because the panting breaths Peter´s been hearing stop all of the sudden.
They don´tmake it far into the forest before Tony starts to sway on his feet, visibly having problems walking a straight line.
Peter isabout to call him out on it, but Tony´s legs are already giving outunder him. He sinks to his knees, bracing one arm against a tree strunk, before doubling over. His helmet withdraws, and Peter can just make out hisstark white face in the last shimmers of evening light.
“Mr. Stark?”
Tony starts to reply, but instead of words he brings up a mouthful of vomit. His upper body seems to vanish and then return for moments in the pale-blue flickering of the arc reactor´s light.
Petercan see little white clouds of air leaving his mentor´s lips in rapid succession. He takes a step forward, torn between the urge to help and the wish to give him some privacy.
“Mr. Stark, is this – are you having a panic attack?”
Tonydoesn’t answer, too busy throwing up again. He clutches his chest with his free hand, still retching, his face contorting in sudden agony. He seems to beunable to stay upright, listing to the side until Peter catches him in anawkward angle against his chest and slowly lowers him to the ground.
“Oh, shit,” Peter´s brains runs frantically, searching for the right words, the right actions, his heart pounding so hard that he can feel it till his fingertips.
“I, uhm, we´re here, near New York, we had a fight, but we are save now -”
“F - fuckingknow where I am,” Tony can´t resist to press out between gritted teeth. “Just…”
His trembling hand reaches for the hidden switchthat opens the suit. He sure as hell didn´t want to do this in front of the kid, but timing is not on his side today, or ever, for that matter.
His vision is getting increasingly blurred. Peter isnothing but a whisp of red and blue, but luckily his fingers don´t need sight to find the outline of the reactor, twist it a little and take it out of hischest. Blue energy frizzles around the tip of his thumb.
The relief is instantaneous. The chest pain doesn´t vanish, but Tony stops feeling like he is actively dying, the nausea decreases to a minimum, and he can finally take a deep breath.
He lies there, eyes closed, enjoying the feeling of oxygen flooding his veins and the buzzing in his head slowly dying down. It´s only Peter´s panicking voice that pulls im out of the haze.
“Please, areyou awake?“ Tony squints upwards, momentarily surprised at the presence of another human being. The expression on the kid´s face is pure terror.
“Oh god, why would you do that?”
“Do what?” Tony grunts.
“The arc reactor, why did you take it out?”
Tony has to think about that for a moment, his mind still catching up with the events.
“Oh, that. It overcharged, that bastard of a drone pulled some trick I wasn´t expecting.”
“Can you put it back in now?” Peter´s voice is impatient, still on the brink of tripping over itself.
“It should decharge on its own, just give it a moment,” Tony reassures.
Peter doesn´t seem convinced. He gives Tony a sceptical glance, chewing on his lower lip. Tony knows that this is probably owed to him not having the bestreputation of self-care, but honestly-
“Come on, I´m the one with trust issues,” he teases, but the grin Peter gives in reply is half-hearted at best.
He makes to sit, grabbing Peter´s arm for support when the dizziness dials up again.
“Huh.” He takesa deep breath. “Wow, this is how it feels to bea high voltage plant?”
Peter doesn´t even laugh, his eyes darting to and fro between Tony´s face and the arc reactor in his hand. There´s bit of dirt and ice on it, and he absent-mindedly rubs it clean with numb fingers.
“Kid, quit looking at me like that. I´ll be okay if I take it out for a fewminutes,” Tony adds ina more sober tone, although the greying edges around his vision tell him that his few minutes are nearly over.“Scout´s honour. ”
Half an hour later, Bruce is sitting with Peter in a van that is slowly making its way back to the compound through a New York clouded by icy rain.
Tony is lying on a gurney, out like a light. He´d stumbled to the vehicle on shaky legs, insisting that he was fine, and had only grumpily let Bruce check him over while Pete distracted him with tech talk, just to fade out on them less than five minutes into the ride.
He is fine, as Bruce assured Peter several times, or at least Tony´s definition of it. But his heart has taken a heavy shock during the drone´s attack and the aftershocks are still catching up with him, causing his blood pressure to fall through the basement. He looks almost peaceful now, apart from the slim oxygen tube leading to his nose and the cuff fixed around his upper arm.
“But does anyone even know how it works? What if something happens, how to fix it… “
Peter shakes Bruce out of his thoughts.
“Friday´s got all the data saved. Tony might be the best in the field, but there are quite a few engineers that could help fixing it even if he´s incapacitated.” If Tony lets them, he thinks, but he doesn´t say that out loud. “He´s gonna be okay, kid, we are taking good care of him.”
Peter nods, but it´s the kind of nod Bruce knows all too well from himself, one lacking any conviction.
He´s going to have a word with Tony.
That night Peter finds himself standing at the window, unable to sleep, staring at the snowflakes that are slowly morphing the compound from a boring grey into a fairytale landscape.
Tony had woken up groggily shortly after they´d reached back, and Bruce and Friday had to threaten to lock him out of the lab in order to make him stay in bed and rest.
“Traitor,” Tony had growled at the ceiling, and Peter had grinned, and then he´d sat on the edge of the bed while Tony talked him through fixing his glove, pretending not to see the way his right hand was still massaging his chest every now and then.
Tony had needed his reading glasses to see the small bits and pieces, and Peter had called him grandpa, causing Bruce to laugh so hard he nearly turned green. The arc reactor had been glowing steadily, and for a moment things had seemed okay.
He´d excused himself soon after, citing homework as a reason. And now here he was, staring at the snow like it could tell him what´s wrong with him, what´s causing his chest to feel tight and his breaths to stock every here and there.
Maybe it was the casuality with which Tony had removed the device that´s keeping him alive, as if it wasn´t just more than another thing, something of not more value to Tony than any other of his machines.
His neck warns him with a tickling even before he can hear the footsteps.
“Shouldn´t you be resting?” he asks when Tony rounds the corner. He still looks paler than he usually does, and Peter notices that he is staying close to the wall, legs a little unstable.
“I could ask you the same thing, Spider-kid,” he replies.
“How are you?” Peter asks instead of giving an answer.
“I´m great, I´m peachy.“
“Yeah,” Peter mumbles, biting his lip. He concentrates on the pattern the snow flakes leave on the window pane.
“What´s up, Spiderling? Doesn´t suit you, this grumpy sort of silence.” Tony eyes him with an intensity that´s usually reserved for tricky bits of code or wire.
Peter evades his gaze, but he notices when Tony doesn´t walk up till the window, sinking down into an armchair insteadwith visible relief.
“How are you, really?”
“I told, you, I´m fine. I´m always fine.” Tony says in a dismissive tone, slightly annoyed. Something about it suddenly makes Peter feel incredibly angry.
“You always say this,” he blurts out. “And then you nearly get electrocuted, or you die from a heart attack, and…I…I just stand there - and -”
He doesn´t want to shout, to fight, to make more of a fool of himself. He knows that his mentor has stayed alive, more or less, for 50 years without his supervision. But the words are out before he can stop himself.
There´s a long silence before Tony starts to speak.
“I do understand you,“ he finally says, and Peter hears the but even before the next words leave his mouth.
“I would like to promise you that things will change, that I´ll take care of myself, that I´ll keep my nose out of all the dangerous stuff. But honestly, what´s the sense of raising false expectations?” Tony draws in a breath, a little shaky, and Peter is almost sure that this has nothing to do with his heart condition.
“Yeah, I get it.” And he does, he sees the layers of Tony´s fears and obligations, his pride and responsibilities, doesn´t see through them exactly, but he understands that it´s not his place to expect anything more than what he has already received. But still…
Something childish in Peter just wants to urge him to promise it anyways, just wants to hear the words from his mouth, eventhough he knows that they can´t become true.
He turns away, back to the window, hoping that the room is too dark for Tony to see his reflection in the glass. Maybe this is just part of growing up, he thinks, the knowledge that at some point, nobody you love is safe anymore.
“Hey.” Tony´s voice is a little softer now. He gets up with a groan, rests a hand on Peter´s shoulder.
“Listen, kid. I might be a grandpa to you, but I can take care of myself. And contrary to popular belief, I don´t have an active interest in kicking the bucket anytime soon.”
“I know,” Peter says. “It´s just…” It´s just that that nobody ever planned to leave. They were just gone, from one moment to the next.
He stubbornly blinks away a tear, feeling infinitely silly. It falls nonetheless, leaving a wet spot on the window sill.
And then Tony is there, finally, wrapping an arm around his shoulders and pulling him towards his chest. It´s the closest thing to a hug Peter has ever received from him.
“I can’t lose another one,” he whispers.
“I know,“ Tony says, a hint of sadness in his tone when his arms tighten fast around Peter and make the world seem a little bit less insecure. “I´ll try. I´ll try my best, I promise.”
