Poll: What is up with Commander Seungnyangi?

Characters in Squirrel and Hedgehog appear to be mostly named based on their species (squirrel, hedgehog, weasel), profession, or other distinguishing features (Aekku = one eyed, Oegwipali= one ear). The commander of the Wolf Unit, Seungnyangi, has a name (승냥이) that translates into 'Jackal.'

Borrowing from a previous post I made, but he does look slightly different that the other wolves.

Somewhat of a thinner muzzle than the rest, rounder ears. Jackals in real life can have longer thinner muzzles and sometimes rounder ears than wolves.

Insults based on species do appear to exist in the Squirrel and Hedgehog universe. For instance, Bamsaegi provides a distraction by calling Geumsaegi a 'running dog of General Commander,' which means some dogs and other animals must have a reputation.

Jackal has connotations that suggest trickery, cunning, and treachery. Commander Seungnyangi does not much care about the safety of his own men, and is very intelligent and brutal in getting what he wants. Which means he could have been named after this factor. Golden Jackal may be most likely.

Or (and this one would be tricker for a few reasons) he could be a mixture of both or other canines, as the wolves have have looked down on him for being part of a supposedly weaker species, while jackals stayed away because they saw him as yet another wolf brute. Or he kept one parent’s name. I’m still kind of keeping the canon-typical speciesism as in the other AU. It is a war and espionage AU fanfic, after all.

I was looking through your masterposts and I wanted to say that I really resonated with your experience of mercury in anuradha.

I have mercury in pushya myself and although ideas have always come very quickly to me, the process is always very laborious and time consuming. I find it impossible to halfass something and still end up with an even half decent result.

To be honest I’m struggling to maintain the discipline and patience that this demands in order to create content and express my ideas.

My sun and rahu are also in Saturn nakshatras, and my D1 Saturn itself is uncomfortably placed in ashelsha. Not to mention my debilitated D9 Saturn in punarvasu.

My D1 and D9 are both extremely nodal (mostly rahu but ketu is also very present) which seems to amplify this problem as I live mostly in my head, I’m primarily motivated by short term gratification and I struggle to connect with and feel emotionally fulfilled by my own work.

Of course I can only assume that our charts are very different and you may be managing your Saturnian energy far more efficiently than I am, but do you have any advice/experience on how to overcome this?

Having a weak Saturn sucks in general, having it weak when you have Saturn Nakshatras sucks even more.

Sadly I can’t relate on the Saturn issue because my Saturn is strong in Aquarius, decent in D9 in Cap and backed up by a vargottama Cap Venus. Discipline is my middle name, if I want something I’ll do it. I’m the kind of person that makes her bed and does her dishes every day without fail unless I’m extremely ill. The only time in my life when that wasn’t the case were bouts of extreme depression and I was trying to preserve some level even then. So my Saturn Nakshatras have excellent backing and I pretty much just do naturally what you struggle with.

However, I can somehow transfer the feeling you deal with to my Jupiter, which is in Libra, one of the hard placements for it. Spiritual practice and Astrology (which is actually more of a Venusian expression of Spirituality) are one thing, having that Jupiterian optimistic spark is another, and I honestly struggled to pull myself forward because of the trouble it brings me. I can chalk it up to having a very difficult life and an unfriendly environment that almost killed me, and yes, it was true, but people with strong Jupiters tend to get up and go and try even if everything seems to fail. It took me a while to even want to build that up. But it also gave me experience on how to deal with a weaker planet.

Here is where the physical element of Astrology shows up. Our chart is literally a description of our frequency. If our planet is weak, we radiate a weaker frequency in that department. If you want to change the frequency of something you don’t naturally generate, you need external input.

This is where remedies come in handy. Chant mantras (Saturn for you). Wear gemstones. Spend A LOT of time around people that have a strong frequency of a planet you struggle with.

My husband has Jupiter in Sagittarius strongly positioned by house, and despite his other flaws and struggles, he ultimately bounces back and gets up every day to do something he loves. Granted, I support him too so it works mutually, which is what marriage is about, it makes both partners feel more alive even if it’s subtle, but honestly I have learned to draw on his energy in this department. I came into our marriage from years of various kinds of abuse and while I survived it (strong Saturn) it has largely affected my ability to feel any hope for healing. Being around a person who has a drive to do something despite the negativity has acted as a remedy for my own struggling Jupiter energy.

People are like walking gemstones, eventually you will get magnetized by their influence and it will carry you along. You will expand into the energetic pattern. It will not change your struggling planet, nothing can, but it can create a pattern that you can use to boost it for the rest of your life.

Hello. I was wondering if you would spare me some thoughts about Fanfiction writing techniques you have. Thank you :)

Oh wow, I've never been asked to give writing advice before....

Ultimately everyone's writing style and writing process varies but here are some of the most important things I've learned in the years of writing fanfic.

Write down EVERYTHING. Every idea you have. Even the "dumb" ones. Even the borderline-nonsensical ones. Even if the idea is not enough to become a fic in and of itself, it can serve as inspiration for other things further down the line. (this also ties into my other rules KEEP EVERYTHING and DON'T BE AFRAID TO SUCK)

KEEP EVERYTHING. Like rule 1, keep every idea you have. You never know when it might come in handy. Also, keep the works you publish on Ao3. If, in the future, you want to remove your connection from a fic, please orphan it instead of deleting it. It's important to keep fanworks available for all, even if their author is no longer associated with it.

DON'T BE AFRAID TO SUCK. Think of your writing ability as a muscle. You wouldn't go to the gym and expect to lift 200 pounds on your very first day. Similarly, you can't expect to write flawlessly and perfectly on your first try. Keep working at it, and over the years you WILL notice improvement.

Find a writing buddy or two. This person doesn't necessarily have to be a formal beta reader or anything, but can be someone you bounce ideas off of, or someone who can generally hype you up. (mega huge shoutout to @a-fast-rebloger for being my writing buddy as of late). Writing is a deeply personal process but honestly if you try to go it alone, you'll wind up losing your mind. A lot of times, when you are writing and editing your own work, you start to find it less impressive. A second set of eyes, whether as a friend or a formal editor or both, can do wonders for self-esteem and motivation when writing.

Remember the Cakes. There's a popular comic that goes around every now and then

The above comic is the beginning of what I talk about in my mind as "The Cake Analogy". If you write a 500 word oneshot and try to compare yourself to someone's 150k multichapter epic, you may feel like the artist in the first panel. But remember, from the audience perspective, we're all just here to eat cake! Another part of the cake analogy... Sometimes I get too worried about characterization or dynamics in my writing. I worry "what if this isn't a believable interaction" or "what if this dialogue sounds stupid" but then I remember I am making a cake to bring to the cake party where people go specifically to eat cake. I am not going to have to convince anyone to eat my cake, because that is what they came here to eat!

Write for YOURSELF. Ultimately, what you write should bring you joy! Yes, you are writing and posting and sharing your creation with others but ultimately this should be for YOU.

Taking the first step is to be proud of one’s self of starting their fitness journey and it is something worth trying.

Before entering a gym some people may wonder what they should work on well it is important to ask yourself some questions whether your goal is to build muscle, lose weight, tone out, build endurance, etc. to get a sense of where to start. Once the idea is formed do some research on what exercises to do and use YouTube as a source to ensure learning the proper form for different exercises. If there is still uncertainty, that's okay! At gyms, there are always trainers or coaches available to offer aid.

Getting ready in a gym fit you feel good in and confident can, in a way, give you more motivation to go. It may sound funny and unbelievable at times but the saying “look good, feel good” rings some truth. 

♥︎ Wearing proper shoes

Wearing a good set of shoes is worth investing in due to the amount of benefits it can bring. The benefits are to improve performance and endurance, prevent injury, be more comfortable, and give you more stability!

♥︎ Headphones 

Headphones in my book are a must! Personally, gym music is not my taste so listening to the music I like puts me in the zone and gets me pumped up to either finish my set or to push myself to do more!

♥︎ Gym equipment if needed 

If your gym doesn’t provide small workout equipment like jump ropes or bands having them (if needed in your workout) can be helpful.

♥︎ Gallon of water 

This is essential! Water is such a necessity when working out because we dehydrate ourselves as we sweat and from the heat we produce so drinking water rehydrates us to maintain normal body function.

♥︎ Fun energy drink

If you feel down in the dumps and don’t have the energy to work out, having an energy drink provides a boost of energy, making you feel awake, alert, and productive. 

♥︎ Personal care mini products (feminine products, deodorant, hand sanitizer, etc.)

Making sure you have “backups or “emergency” products will save your life! Even when you think you might not need something it comes in handy the moment you do.

Aspire: Power of Illumination. This power has many paths but among them are the power to physically glow, the power to demonstrate the best paths/course of action, the power to resolve miscommunication.

Wick: Power of Chance. Allows the user to create conditions of peace/turmoil, and lightly influences the weather.

Cow: Power of Hearth. The user may absorb the stress of friends and release it against foes, or absorb the joy of friends and spread it among them.

Sopl: Power of Concentration. Allows the user to commit to a single goal and facilitates completion of it at all costs.

Kay: Power of Evolution. Manifests the objects/circumstances which will best lead to the user's success or to their happiness, but sometimes will only be one or the other.

Noble: Power of Perception. The user can enhance one of their senses, or enhance their reaction time to those senses.

Carpet: Power of Honesty. The user can compell others to speak truthfully, or give themself an articulation of grandeur.

Kiki: Power of Choice. The user spins a die and chances of success are adjusted according to the number. Power also can be unlocked to being given the sight to foresee how different chances influence success no matter the outcome.

Riv: The Power of Enthusiasm. User can change appearance at their whim, but depending on the complexity of the transformation (like a dragon. I love dragons. Riv do you like dragons) may be limited by a timer

Rosie: Power of Discovery. User can locate anything lost, or anything in need of finding. Depending on distance the details and impressions may be more blurry and indestinct.

Autumn: Power of Ingenuity. Handy in a fight where quick assembly of a machine or plan is needed, but can also be used elsewhere when sharpened thoughts or impressions or emotions are desired. Also maybe would like shiny things... Hehe...

Kayla: Power of Empathy. User can summon a shield or weapon in pursuit of defending a friend, or can summon an item of comfort (like a plushie!!)

Chaos: Power of Insight: Grants the user the ability to briefly witness a past or historical event which is key to explaining a current event/mystery/motivation.

Gray: Power of Endurance: The user acquires a boost of strength/willpower. I think my jewelry would be a. What's it called. Collar chain!! Lapel chain?

Strawberry (below): Power of Precision. User can influence and control a physical phenomenon (weather, temperature, gravity, environment), but relies on willpower for the strength of the move.

Seeing that Hantengu has a kanji tattoo on each of his emotion clones, do they have a deeper meaning? Are they considered to be “primary” emotions? Also, does that connect to the colors they represent?

Aizetsu- Blue

Urogi- Yellow

Yes! Although Hantengu himself has "怯" (fear) and his final self-protecting form has "恨" (resentment), and Zouhakuten has "憎" (hatred), these four are a set, collectively known as "喜怒哀楽" (Ki-do-ai-raku), which is indeed shorthand for what are considered the primary emotions, but feelings and emotions in general. This idea comes from Confucianism, as the four basic motivations for people's actions and behaviors.

Some things to note, the character used for sadness (Aizetsu's 哀) is more about the emotion of sadness as opposed to a situation being sad, and the difference between Urogi's "happiness" (喜) and Karaku's "pleasure" (楽) is that things that make you happy aren't necessarily fun, like how playing a game is fun, but passing a big test you studied for may make you happy but isn't necessarily fun. Sekido's "anger" (怒) is more straightforward.

喜怒哀楽 can be used in everything from "he shows his emotions easily" to "she doesn't show her emotions much" to "they get really emotional, watch out for mood swings" and such. While 喜怒哀楽 is a neutral phrase in and of itself, it lends itself to both positive and negative nuance. On the whole, perhaps more negative ones, as there's a lot of phrases that imply one's emotions (and how they express them) being out of control and causing trouble. KnY seems to lean more towards the idea that 喜怒哀楽 need to be kept in check, lest you run away with your passions or obsessions (demon-like behavior), but if you're as strong-willed as a Pillar, you can also keep them focused on a goal (killing all demons). There are a few characters who don't show much of their 喜怒哀楽 are are treated like good characters (Ruka, Amane, for instance), but also characters who let their 喜怒哀楽 run amok and cause trouble for others, even if they are essentially good at their core (Zenitsu, Inosuke). Tanjiro shows us a whole range of 喜怒哀楽, but he generally is keeping them in check or righteous when he lets them loose, in a way that powers himself for some goal.

As for colors, it seems there's no set colors to represent the primary emotions, and it really is up to interpretation! Blue for sadness and read for anger seem pretty consistent, but I've seen yellow and green used interchangeably for pleasure and happiness. That sad, I found this webpage handy from an artistic/design perspective on choosing different shades and hues of a variety of colors to express those emotions.

- Well, compared to other characters, I'd say he's pretty tame.

- He's easily irritated but is incredibly skilled in building.

- Then there's, of course, the whole hand situation.

- In this concept he has prosthetics to help him out.

- Many of the characters in HTF are surprisingly tame unless it's someone like Fliqpy.

- Even then, Flippy himself is pretty tame.

- Handy may have a short temper but overall he seems like a domestic type who takes joy in building.

- When he isn't dying in some horrid way which seems like a concerningly normal occurrence.

- He does not seem like the type to stalk.

- He seems more like one to daydream while on the job about you and gets all excited when he sees you.

- He may have blueprints set up of houses he'd like to live in with you.

- You're unaware of his feelings but Handy thinks of you often enough to have a decently sized stack of ideas hidden away.

- Even though he doesn't seem to be the type for murder, he is unaffected by the deaths of his fellow friends.

- Which means, when it comes to you, he may not entirely mind embracing a more violent side.

- Handy also seems like he'd get jealous but hide it easily.

- He tries to distract himself with work yet wouldn't mind whoever made him jealous getting into a work-related accident-

- Oh no, a panel fell and crushed someone? Whoops!

- He doesn't mean it to be cold, he's just... used to all the gore and murder?

- Handy would be affectionate, too.

- Maybe even a bit frustrated and insecure about his lack of hands.

- Handy may fall for someone who helps him and encourages him to get over his frustration.

- He expresses his affection with hugs, as he can still attempt those.

- He may even like small kisses on the cheek or something, nothing all that intimate.

- Rarely even the malicious type unless he really doesn't like someone.

- Handy could manipulate you into the life he wants for both of you but it's small things.

- Like motivating certain choices or challenging a decision you made to make you second guess yourself.

- It's all small things so you'll barely notice him guiding your thought process around.

- He probably also needs you to reassure him you enjoy his company, due to the previously mentioned insecurity.

- Would offer to build you a house.

- It's what he's good at and he wants to show you he really loves you!

- He'll tune everything to your tastes.

- Then once it's finished he is ecstatic when you pull him in for a hug and thank him.

- He'll remember moments like that forever.

- To end this on a darker note, there's indeed a dark side to Handy.

- He may not kidnap... but he'd amputate your limbs-

- You'd have to really break him to get him to do something like that, yet he'd do it.

- Then you two would be perfect for each other!

- How could you not love him if you're just like him?

- Handy overall is pretty tame and sweet.

- Just as long as you don't uncover anything darker within him.

3 Easy Methods to Start Journaling

If you’ve always wanted to start journaling (or just try something new) but don’t know where to start or find it all overwhelming, this blog post is sure to help!

This month I’ll be outlining 3 simple and easy ways you can start journaling and kick off the new year!

To begin let me break down what I believe are the basic concepts of journaling: documentation, goal-setting, and self-reflection.

In this post I’ll be outlining 3 simple ways you can accomplish these basic concepts, with each method covering a different concept.

Let’s start with the easiest and my favorite method to start journaling: buying a calendar.

This method is to tackle the documentation aspect of journaling. If you find that writing things down in a traditional journal is hard, then the calendar method, as I call it, is a much easier way to document your life.

1. Expo Calendar (Exhibition Calendar)

This is exactly what it sounds like, it exhibits your life. Basically you get a calendar (I get mine from the dollar store but you can also print cute templates for free online) and fill it out after you’ve done something. And so you essentially get an archive of your month.

As for what you put on the calendar, it can be anything you consider notable. Whether it’s completing a goal like finishing a book or working out, or fun plans or activities like dinner with friends or painting, just write them down on the calendar the day you did them.

This not only helps you keep track of everything but also makes you feel accomplished when you look back and see just how much you have actually done. Often times we don’t remember the things we do and when we think back it seems like much less than it actually is.

This calendar gives you an at a glance view of everything. It can also motivate you to do something noteworthy, so to speak, if you notice a week looking particularly empty.

Below is an example of how you could fill out an Expo Calendar. (If you want to take it a step further you can color-coordinate by choosing a color for goals or plans/activities.

This is something I’ve been doing since 2019 and I’ve really enjoyed going back through the calendar (especially at the end of the year) and realizing how much I’ve actually done.

The second method is to address the goal-setting concept of journaling.

2. Monthly Notes

I’ve talked about this on my blog multiple times because it’s something I truly stand by and implement in my life for years now. Basically, the idea is to write down 3 goals you hope to accomplish in a given month.

(I’ve dived deeper into this in these blog posts and I highly recommend checking them out for more information: Different Kinds of Goals and Organization and Goals)

If you’re not sure where to start on the 3 goals then the easiest way is to make one of each type: Fun, Achievable, and Challenging. Essentially, make one goal that is fun for you to do, another goal that you’ve been meaning to do that’s achievable and one goal slightly more challenging.

You can write these in an actual journal, on a post-it note, or even digitally, whatever works best for you. A month, I find, is a good amount of time to try to get things done, not too long and not too short, but it’s good to check in midway to make sure you’re on track to accomplishing these goals.

If you follow the method of setting one of each type of goal, you will likely have at least one or two of them checked off by the end of the month when you re-evaluate. This method is an easy way to make sure you’re staying on top of the things you want to accomplish.

The last method is to cover the last concept of journaling which is self-reflection.

3. Journal Prompts

I know this may seem obvious, but a bottleneck for a lot of people with journaling is they don’t know what to write. This is where just choosing from a list of journal prompts comes in handy.

If you’re just starting out, I recommend making some time once or twice a week to go through one or two journal prompts and answer them. Doing it daily can be a lot for people who haven’t adjusted but by doing it weekly you can slowly build up the habit. Once you answer a few journal prompts, coming up with what to write might even become easier.

Taking Care of your Vampire Body

Transitioning into an undead body can be strange, but here are some great ways to stay in shape!

Lots of sun protection

It’s always a good idea to keep SPF, sunglasses, and shade handy in case you need to go out in the sunshine. The sun can burn you, overwhelm you, and drain your energy, so it’s important to stay on top of sun and heat exposure. 🕶🧴👒☂️

Stay hydrated!

It is vital to keep a glass of B Negative on hand, since it is our main source of vitamins and nutrition. The best times to drink up are in the morning, before bed and whenever you’re low on energy. If for whatever reason you cannot access plasma, water should be good to get you by until you really require another round.🩸🍷

Anemia is not rad

[DO NOT FOLLOW IF YOU ARE NOT ANEMIC] In many cases, anemia can cause fatigue, severe depression and a lack of motivation in us; therefore, it is essential to take iron supplements as recommended by a doctor, to prevent that from happening. 🪫->🔋

Surround yourself in positive, healthy energy

Good friends are great, absorbing good energy is even better. Plan fun things for yourself and/or with others and try to happy-stim as often as you can (positive sensory objects work best for many). When we’re surrounded by negative energy, we can often absorb it terribly, completely shifting our moods and bringing us to an unstable headspace, so try to keep things that make you happy close. 🫂👯💞

Don’t forget to:

- Ask to come in beforehand (you’ll feel more welcome and comfortable) 🚪

- Garlic does taste great, but too much can be overwhelming; consume in small amounts. 🧄

- Bring B negative with you everywhere in the summer and go in water as often as possible. 🍷

- Meditate!! 🧘

- Bite those you love often! (with permission of course) 🦷❤️

uhhh, hi :33 i’m back after god knows how long of not writing to bring u my dumdum workforce au ideas :33 also if you saw this post fuck y’all it’s not a handy manny au >:((

‧͙⁺˚*･༓☾　robaire - barista/bartender　☽༓･*˚⁺‧͙

bet he’d have the like, really hot barista rep so college students would come to his cafe to take a peek at him but inevitably they’d stay for his coffee cause it’s really fucking good. and then at night his cafe turns into a calm little bar, he serves great specialty drinks to the point he’s been featured in a couple night life magazines!

he and jesse were college buddies therefore jesse is an extremely loyal patron to robaire’s cafe, plus robaire serves as his venting grounds. when robaire can tell jesse’s having a really rough time he’ll whip him up an ungodly concoction that’ll make jesse forget all about his worries~ and give him a massive headache after

z also happens to be a regular customer since robaire’s cafe serves some pretty good protein shakes, robaire knows his order by heart cause he never orders anything else (and he may have had a crush on him cause with those muscles how can you not—) he finally gave in and wrote down his number on the back of z’s receipt once and after a bit of a slow burn courtship they’re happily dating :33

sometimes he tries whipping up new drinks in his spare time and they’re either really good or spawn of satan bad, he has vomited a few of his own creations and honestly speaking robaire’s alcohol tolerance is concerningly high so you know there had to be something wrong with that drink

t’s the resident repairman so robaire calls him up to do some odd jobs every now and then, like “t the water is brown and smells like coffee.” “you work at a coffee shop, what’s the problem?” “n-no i mean the toilet water t.” it’s ok though he pays t a hefty sum for his work plus offers him a free discount on drinks so he doesn’t go unappreciated.

robaire actually knew tae as t's friend since he'd bring him around occasionally to take advantage of the free drinks he gets. he learned that tae's alcohol tolerance was scary that night and put a cap on how many drinks he should serve him for the sake of morning after tae young—

‧͙⁺˚*･༓☾　jesse - college professor　☽༓･*˚⁺‧͙

i’d give him the ‘wacky art teacher’ title but he’s too hot for that, he’s the resident hot professor that students always have a crush on at one point if they take his class. too bad he’s been gay and taken for awhile now but oh well, this man is stressed as hell by the way. will go out of his way to try and give less assignments so he’ll have to check less things but even then he suffers during hell weeks to the point he nearly got carpal tunnel from checking papers. but on the plus side he looks hot in glasses i guess?

the bar is his refuge though, he never comes by during cafe hours but once robaire sets up the bar he’s there almost the entire night (when he’s free of course he’s not that irresponsible) jesse used to be the official taste tester for robaire’s sample drinks but after a few bad ones let’s just say he tapped out of that role real fucking fast. might have had a fling with robaire when they were younger but honestly they both knew they were better off as friends so they broke up with no hard feelings.

since jesse had to witness the monster of a crush that was robaire’s on aaron z, jesse knows him by relation but also ended up going to one of his gym classes and actually liked it. jesse can admire the fact that z’s a damn good teacher and great motivator at that, they become good friends once he makes z swear he’ll never break robaire’s heart. he makes sure to drop by the gym at least once a week to the point z has come to expect him and even started giving him tips on workout clothes because no jesse, you cannot show up to a class in sweat pants and a pajama shirt.

tae and t were actually both jesse’s students at one point, although he never had a class with both of them together he knows t to actually be a pretty bright student, generally found him to be more engaged with hands on activities rather than pen and paper ones which he understood. t was generally a very earnest worker in his eyes and he appreciated that in him.

NOW TAE WAS A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY, cause jesse may or may not have developed a slight crush on him when he first saw him— and it didn’t help that tae young would always stay behind and ask questions, or participate in after school workshops that jesse hosted. he genuinely tried to keep his feelings as just attraction and nothing more but the more time he spent around tae it inevitably spiralled out of control when he ended up confessing. but luckily tae said yes so all’s well ends well! (although he did say that their relationship should be kept on the down low until tae graduates)

tae manages his college’s greenhouse but also part times as a florist in another more well known shop, generally just loves flowers and learned flower language long before he actually became a florist. started out as a volunteer with his college’s greenhouse until he ranked up to manager, but even that didn’t satiate his love for plants so he applied for a part time job that actually paid him money for his plant upkeep! he’s pretty popular around campus since people tend to buy their flowers from him (he offers student discounts even though they’re just flowers lol)

alright so about his relationship with jesse… tae couldn’t help it ok he’s hot :<< but other than that he genuinely loved how caring jesse was and how much effort he put into helping his students, especially since tae young didn’t exactly do the best in his class during the first semester. jesse genuinely went out of his way to help him then so he slowly started developing feelings… and he expressed those feelings with flowers! sometimes he’d give them to jesse straight up, hide them in his desk, press them into his homework (don’t worry jesse never gave him minus points for that), or some other roundabout way. and the moment jesse confessed to him he literally cried before saying yes—

tae has been to robaire's bar before thanks to t treating him to the free drinks that he gets there, he finds robaire quite charming and sweet so he understands all the campus buzz about the "really hot barista at the cafe"

tae and t are actually really close! they commute with each other to college everyday and have fun conversations all the way there, t was the first person tae told about his crush on jesse and t’s genuinely such an accepting friend. tae likes t cause he never judges him but also just cause he’s so fun to be around, also t is basically the hive mind for all the latest gossip so tae likes catching up on that kinda stuff.

now z and tae aren’t really close, they’ve only been acquainted a few times since z is robaire’s boyfriend and he’s jesse’s boyfriend so they’re still a bit awkward around each other. but tae thinks z is cool but also finds it really cute that he's shy since usually he's the one who leads conversations between them.

aaron t’s a repairman that a whole lotta people rely on since he can do various common and odd jobs, people will literally just say “if you have a problem go to aaron t!” and that’s kinda stuck as his tagline since then. he knows everyone in the community pretty well and is very well beloved considered the amount of discounts and free food he gets from the people he works for on the daily—

t is basically robaire’s assigned repairman since only he can deal with the random ass problems robaire’s cafe goes through. don’t even ask me how he managed to fix the toilet water thing cause i can’t give you an explanation. and t will admit, he may find robaire hot but he's heard him mention a boyfriend once or twice so he let it go

now jesse was t's professor during his first year of college and he has to say, the man is packing in the looks department hot damn. but also he felt very very worried for tae since he knew his feelings were fragile and he didn't want him to get hurt if jesse rejected him. nonetheless he gave his full support to their relationship and hey! it paid off cause now he has free access to the teachers lounge with the good snacks.

oh tae, beloved sweet tae young, t's best friend little brother scrunkly boy sweetheart platonic soulmate— anyways, t definitely sees tae as a little brother. he's supportive of whatever tae does and always tries to encourage him, they have a very caring relationship towards each other since tae also listens attentively to his problems.

ok z, jesus christ that was a fine ass man, t's done a few repairs for the gym here and there and z's supervised him a few times. a man of few words but t's chatter overcame it and they inevitably became good friends! z sometimes asks him for relationship advice regarding his boyfriend (who he soon learned was robaire so like, huh small world i guess?) and what kind of gifts he would like but t always just goes “whatever you get him, he’ll like dude.” a very sweet bromance between these two~

i mean… are you surprised? he’s really good at coming up with workout plans for people of all ages and fitness levels, plus a very caring and genuine motivator when it comes down to it. now, have people gotten memberships at his gym just to check him out? yes, but he’s hot so what did you expect?? people to pass up the free eye candy of z in a really tight workout shirt that shows off his muscles?? but nonetheless z probably considered becoming a professional athlete at one point but decided to stick to helping people since that’s where he found he felt the best. probably coaches a grade school basketball team and they all love him and call him big bro z <33

now robaire’s his boyfriend (even he can’t believe it, kinda has this whole ‘aw man i don’t deserve him’ vibe every now and then), they share an apartment together and z helps him develop protein shake recipes~ endorses robaire’s cafe at his gym cause we love good ol’ business partner boyfriends. entrepreneur power couple in the finest sense also z helps robaire when it comes to heavy lifting during cafe renovations.

when jesse signed up for z’s gym z initially kinda thought jesse wouldn’t be able to do anything too intense, but surprisingly he proved him wrong. jesse’s actually pretty strong and he rarely needs help when manoeuvring equipment or keeping proper form, the only gripe z has with jesse is that his diet is shit. which i mean, is understandable he’s a teacher what else can he do, but z has to remind jesse he can’t replace water with whiskey and that in itself is concerning.

honestly z thinks aaron t is some kinda god, like he’s so knowledgeable?? on so many random things?? to be fair z only calls him around when the pipes to the shower room are acting up or if a machine isn’t functioning like it should but honestly the jobs he asks of t are always so varying and the fact that he can fix it all is so?? dare he say cool and fuel t’s ego even more… sometimes he asks him for relationship advice since he knows t to be good with people, but it seems that t really honors being true to yourself so z can respect that.

now tae, he may not know this but z coaches his little brother on the basketball team? so he knew him sorta, but then he introduced himself as t’s friend AND jesse’s boyfriend which was kinda a double whammy cause holy shit how have they not met officially until now?? tries to recruit tae into trying couples yoga with jesse cause z will always claim that he has the body and jesse’s joints probably need it, but other than that admires tae’s knowledge on edible flowers and thinks he’s cute when he starts passionately talking about plants.

First request here! Im so excitedd lol 😆 may i request idia, cater, vil, deuce and azul (sep) with an s/o who knows nothing about technology? Like where they come from there are no videogames, no social media, no phones, etc. So naturally s/o is curious and asks the boys to help them learn more about it.

Curiouser and Curiouser...

Idia has no idea how you've even been ALIVE for this long without ANY tech whatsoever. (No anime? No video games? What madness is this?!) In fact, when you first tell him, he almost seems repulsed at the idea of your lifestyle before coming to NRC.

He makes it a personal mission to get you acquainted with all things tech, and takes great pride in doing so. Not only does his big brain come in handy, but he also gets to show off and help out his S/O at the same time. It's like killing three birds with one stone (... or getting a triple kill combo in a shoot'm up, in Idia's case).

He prioritizes showing you how to use touch screen devices and keyboards first, since those are relatively simple to grasp. Idia may be used to them, but he knows that you aren't, so he has to start small and build up in complexity.

As he teaches you, Idia comes to rediscover many of the things he once took for granted, like a phone camera's timer or how a fresh joystick makes satisfying clicks as it is maneuvered around. Seeing your face brighten with each new feature you learn helps Idia come to appreciate his tech--not to mention fall in love with you all over again.

Of course, Idia dedicates the most time to showing you how to play video games (since he wants to be able to play co-op and party games with you)! The controller's shape is unlike anything you've ever held before, so Idia has to take your hands in his to show you how to properly hold it. His hands are ice cold like the kiss of death itself, but they quickly warm up against you, much like his flaming hair and cheeks.

Cater's super sympathetic, cooing about how he feels bad for you! He practically puts his whole life on social media, so he can't imagine living any other way! The world just seems so much smaller without his phone in his hand--so how in the world must feel?

First thing's first! Before teaching you anything, Cater insists on taking a selfie. When you respond with a confused "what's a selfie and why are we taking one?", he gives a laugh and says it'll be a good way of documenting your tech journey. Not only that, but he wants to be your first (selfie)!

With Cater being... well, Cater, he's going to show you how to navigate Magicam ;9! He even helps you set up your own account, including your profile pic and description (which tags his account, declaring Cater as your boyfriend to the public~... while his description declares you as his S/O to his thousands of followers).

He also teaches you about what the best angles and lighting are for pics! Cater points out the various filters and other editing tools at your disposal, his smiling face hovering close to yours as he swipes through your options--and when he gives you that tender sideways glance, you 100% understand why people want to capture moments forever in photos.

You quickly grasp using a touch screen keyboard, but whenever you text him, he litters his responses with emojis--maybe to better express his feelings for you, maybe to just mess with you. Sometimes he just straight up sends nothing but emojis to see if you can decipher his message! But no matter what his motive is, those colorful texts spark joy in you every time you get a notification.

Certainly, it’s unusual that you’ve never come by modern technology before, but Vil considers himself well-equipped to teach you the ins and outs of it. There’s nothing wrong with your roots, but there’s also nothing wrong with expanding your horizons, either!

His approach is very “hands on”. Vil hands you a device and, after giving you a basic rundown of its functions, allows you to explore it. The first of Vil’s many tests is sitting down for a movie together (so you can learn the remote control’s buttons). You watch, totally mesmerized, as another Vil appears on the TV. No matter where you stop or start, he always looks so beautiful--both in person and on the screen. Vil catches you staring and smirks, the lights from the movie making him appear all the more dazzling.

Vil takes on the role of a strict and somewhat overprotective guardian as he guides you through the cesspit of social media. As a celebrity, he’s big on internet etiquette and watching what he says online, so he passes on that knowledge to you. No sharing of personal details, block what makes you uncomfortable, etc. (After all, he wants his beloved to be safe online!)

While Vil wants you to have fun online, he also reminds you to not become too immersed in social media--it’s only meant to be a temporary escape. Stay too long, and you might get wrapped up in FOMO, rather than enjoying what you already have.

Vil can’t just go around parading that he’s spoken for--it would unnecessarily expose you to the public eye, and could potentially put you in danger, so he asks that you don’t @ him on socials. That’s just the price he has to pay for his star status--besides, you’ll always have him to yourself in private, right?

While Deuce is initially surprised, he's very understanding of your situation! He knows that everyone comes from different circumstances, and he doesn't let that cloud his judgement of others or of their abilities much. You’ve looked past Deuce’s old self, so he’s able to look past your own oddities!

He worries about being an adequate tutor for you, since he isn't exactly the best student himself. Just like he feared, Deuce ends up being not the best at explaining things, even the simplest of commands. He just kind of... does something, then looks at you expectantly to copy him. (B-But hey, he’s trying!)

As you slowly start to get the hang of it, Deuce gets super excited and cheers you on! A slap on your shoulder or back, a high-five, a fist bump... It’s really cute how animated he gets with your steady progress, and it motivates you to keep improving!

When it comes to helping you set up your phone, Deuce gets oddly fidgety. Then, mid-lesson, he blurts out (with a beet red face) that he’d like to have your number so you can talk, even if you can’t see each other! Deuce sighs with relief when you give him the okay--and practically drops your phone five times while he nervously punches his number in and sends a text to himself to confirm.

If your devices ever get broken, Deuce lets you know you can bring them to him for a quick fix! At first, you’re super impressed by his technical prowess--but then you realize when Deuce says he’ll “fix” something, he actually means he’ll kick, punch, and chuck your device at the wall until it works again. (And surprisingly? It works most of the time.)

Azul understands your plight, though to a lesser degree. Back when he lived in the Coral Sea, he was limited in the technologies he could access, simply because some of them did not work in the waters. Now, he’s very comfortable with using land tech and scamming tutoring others--so leave it to him to teach you everything you need to know!

You report to Azul’s office after the usual hours of operation and sit next to him as he demonstrates the various tools of his trade on a laptop. This spreadsheet program to automatically calculate net gains and losses, what’s left in their stock, total and individual sales... this search engine to do market research... this custom website for sharing the lounge’s menu... It really makes you appreciate how hard-working and dedicated Azul is!

He generally focuses on showcasing the practical applications of technology, like setting alarms and timers, and typing down important events on a phone. Azul’s sure that you’ll find them useful in your daily life, from waking up on time for classes to setting aside weekends for your dates.

He does eventually introduce you to Magicam (if only to have you follow the Mostro Lounge’s page), as well as to Kelp, some underwater restaurant review site. With (fake) teary eyes, Azul begs for you to write a review (or two, or three, or ten) to help boost the lounge’s overall star rating--and in return, he’ll reward you with a romantic candlelit dinner with all your favorite foods~

As a special gift, Azul surprises you with a pair of blue light blocking glasses! He explains that being on a screen for too long can damage your eyes, so it’s best to take precautions to protect them. Azul slips your new glasses on for you, fingers lingering on your cheeks and cupping your face--holding his whole world in his hands.

Story Writing Tips

Hello lovelies! I had a friend ask me for some story writing tips IRL and figured I could share them here as well for whomever they may benefit :) These are not organized in any particular order and are really just practices I follow. Your writing is wonderful and beautifully unique, whether these practices resonate with you or not. 1) Let your characters decide ~ This is one of my best tips for dealing with writer's blocks. Suppose you're reaching a climactic point in your story and feel like it could go in five directions from that point on. Don't force yourself to make a decision and stick with it. When you get to that pivotal moment, rather than pre-determining what happens to your characters, let them take the lead. How they will react and what they will say will come to you as you immerse them and yourself in the moment.

2) Don't feel pressured to write chronologically ~ Again, something to help with writer's block. If you're having trouble getting through a plot point, don't write it next. Jump to a part you feel you can write for and go back to the one that's got you stuck.

3) Do not delete anything you write ~ Some of my most successful stories have come to life because I was planning to write something else entirely but incorporated a different plot point because I wanted to use a previously written paragraph. Even if you don't love how a paragraph turned out, have a half-baked idea you couldn't complete, or any other reasons for miscellaneous paragraphs, don't delete them!! You don't know when they may come in handy later. 4) Synonyms are one of your best friends ~ I love using synonyms for potentially commonplace words. They add a layer of richness and deeper meaning beyond what you would initially deliver.

5) Vary sentence length to increase the readability of your works ~ Just as high school English teaches us, sometimes it can be tough to read multi-line sentences back to back. Varying your sentence length and going between long, mid-length, and short sentences will create a flow for your reader.

6) Nothing is really original ~ I know, controversial opinion. I just believe so much has been done; coming up with new plot twists and character arcs and story tropes is next to impossible. Let this idea motivate you, not deter you! Even if something's been done, your unique take on it will make all the difference and give your readers something amazing to encounter. Maybe something seems obvious to you because you've spent hours mulling over a detail/plot point. I promise you, your reader will be in for the ride of their life. I hope these are helpful for you! Cat’s Writing Tips: 10 Things I Learned Rewriting MDCSP

For anyone that doesn’t know at this point, I rewrote a fic of mine last year called Marinette Dupain-Cheng’s Spite Playlist and rereleased it as Marinette Dupain-Cheng’s Spite Playlist: Remix. The whole journey of revising the 86,000 word story took me about a year over which time I completely edited the original text and added an additional 52,000 words of new content. I learned a lot about the writing process along the way and feel like my writing leveled up as well. Here are 10 things I learned along the way while revising this absolute beast of a story that may help you on your writing journey as well:

1. Revising takes time

When I first set out to rewrite this story, I thought I could get it all done during NaNoWriMo. Aka, I thought I could do it in 1 month. And I probably could have if I’d been more on top of things and didn’t also have a full time day job. The whole process from start to finish took me about a year. That included editing the original text, writing the new content from scratch, getting everything beta read, going through feedback and making more revisions. I learned that the process of revising is a long one, but it’s a process that is so worth it. I’m really proud of the Remix, and I love the way it turned out in the end. Even if I felt like I was limping to the finish. My advice is take your time to do revisions well. You’ll be much happier with the end result. 

2. Outlines are a literal godsend

I plan to make a whole separate post on outlining because motherfucking outlines saved my ass. I have outlined every story I’ve written since then. I mean, I usually would go into stories with some type of outline or at the very least an idea of what I wanted, but I started making detailed outlines for the new chapters, and let me tell you, it’s now a standard practice in my life. 

For the enemies AU I’m working on, I have had the whole project outlined for months now from chapter 1 all the way through chapter 22. I’m still tweaking the ending, but for these beginning chapters, I know exactly what is going to happen in each chapter and have been able to map out Adrien’s whole journey throughout the fic. Outlining takes the guess work out of writing. If ever I forget where I’m supposed to be heading with a particular chapter, I glance back at the outline. By putting in the legwork to decide on all of the important plot points in the story ahead of time, it saves me that paralysis while writing where I have to stop and think hmmm what happens next. It keeps me from writing myself into corners, and it allows me to shape the story exactly how I want, so when it comes time to sit and write, I can just sit and write. I don’t have to stop and figure anything out. I’ve done that already. It’s what has allowed me to sit and spit out 8k within a week at times. Writers block? We don’t know her anymore. If I’m not able to write, it’s because I literally don’t have the time, which still happens because again, I have a full-time day job. But having a detailed outline completely removed mental blocks for me.

3. Set goals/keep a journal

I started keeping a writing journal to track my progress throughout this rewrite. I’d set weekly goals and keep track of how much I was writing on any given day. It helped keep me focused on what I needed to do next as well as keep me organized. It was also a way to hold myself accountable when I didn’t meet my goals. Something about putting things in writing makes you far more likely to do them. In my writing journal, I’d track daily word counts and set goals for what I wanted to work on/finish that week. Usually I’d be finishing one chapter, editing another, and starting on another almost every week. I didn’t always meet my goals, but setting them kept me motivated and helped me know what came next. 

4. Skip around

This is something I still do and one area where outlines come in handy. My betas can attest that I always drag my feet when it comes to writing fight scenes. It’s not that I’m not good at them, I’m sure anyone who has read a fight scene written by me knows I’m not bad at it. It’s just that they’re tedious. It requires a lot of thinking and action and there are a lot of variables that go into them. Several times while rewriting MDCSPR, I’d get to a fight scene that I wasn’t quite mentally prepared to tackle, but the fight scene was sandwiched between a scene I really wanted to get to. So, I’d just skip the fight scene and keep writing from the next moment that I could clearly picture. This allowed me to get higher word counts every day because most of the time if I wrote the beginning and end, filling in the middle wasn’t hard because it gave me a clear picture of where I was headed and what I needed to connect to. It kept me from getting stuck on one word or one sentence and getting paralyzed for days or weeks at a time on one thing. Allowing myself to skip something and go back to it alleviated that sense of perfectionism that tends to nag me when I’m writing. 

A word of caution about skipping around is don’t skip too far. Especially if you’re writing from scratch. Often times, even if you outline your story, you might change your mind about certain things or adopt a different vibe as you write. So if you skip ahead and write the ending before you’ve written the beginning, you might change your mind on that ending and have to scrap it and rewrite it later on. If I skipped around, it was usually within a single chapter or two, and I’d always make sure to go back and finish filling in the missing parts before I moved on. 

5. Work in chunks

Rewriting a 20 chapter story was daunting at times. 86k is a lot of words to read and reread and rewrite. The only way I got through it was by working on one chunk at a time. I was usually working on at least 2-3 chapters at a time. This worked well for me for a couple of reasons. 1. If I got bogged down on one chapter, I could just move to a different one. 2. It helped me get more done at a time. Breaking a story down into chunks makes it way more manageable because it allows you to focus on one thing at a time rather than the whole thing at once. Writing 138,000 words sounds like a lot. Writing 2k right now is much more manageable. And eventually those 2ks add up, and now you’ve got a whole story. 

6. Keep going

Along with my last point, this one kind of seems obvious, but keep going. Writing is a marathon, not a sprint. Though writing sprints do help you get through the marathon. I find that writing long stories especially is a matter of building and maintaining momentum. Pace yourself and keep making steady progress, no matter how small. I didn’t write every single day while rewriting MDCSPR, but I made sure to keep making steady progress whether by skipping around, working in chunks, or outlining something and plotting. If you feel yourself start to get stuck, work around the blockage. Skip it and work on something else. You can always go back and edit a bad first draft, but you can’t edit something that doesn’t exist. Keep up the momentum if you’ve got it. Nothing has been more freeing to me than getting to a point that’s stumping me and just skipping a few lines and writing [insert fight scene here], then moving onto whatever happens next. Skip shit. Keep going. Watch those word counts rise. 

7. Fix it in post

I think a lot of writers suffer from a nagging sense of perfectionism. They slave over every word while they’re writing because they want to write the perfect draft. The most important thing I learned while writing MDCSPR is to throw perfection to the wind because the perfect draft doesn’t exist. I can’t tell you how many times I was writing something new, and it wasn’t going exactly how I wanted. I had that nagging voice to stop and fix it then and there, to agonize over a single sentence until it was “perfect.” But the most freeing thing I learned how to do was say eh, I can fix it later. Keep going. Let the sentence be bad. You can fix it later. As I said before, you can fix a bad first draft. You can’t fix a draft that hasn’t been written. Edit later. Allow yourself to write poorly and just spit the words onto the page. 

8. Walk away/let it rest

This is something a younger me struggled with. I'd write something and want to post it immediately. I am an excitable person that struggles to keep projects secret XD I always want to tease things and share what I'm working on. For this project, though, I waited until I had edited 21 chapters to start posting it. That was an excruciating amount of time and effort put in with little pay off until it was time to share it, but patience and time make for much better writing. My betas kept me going because I could at least get some feedback on what I was making, but since this was a revision, I didn't want to send my betas sloppy drafts either. I tried to make every chapter as polished as possible before sending it, and the main way I did that was by walking away for a while.

Cat, that sounds counter intuitive. Okay, hear me out. I talked about keeping a writing journal and how I'd usually be finishing one chapter, editing another, and starting the next one within any given week, and I found that this system worked well for me. It can be tempting when you finish a chapter to immediately start editing it, and oftentimes I would give the chapter a read through after I finished it initially, but I wouldn't send it to my betas at that point. I started walking away from finished chapters and letting them rest while I worked on something else. Getting my eyes off a chapter for a week or two greatly increased the quality of my edits when I came back to it. When the chapter is fresh in your mind, it's harder to spot mistakes because you've read it a dozen times, and your eyes start to glaze over typos and mistakes more easily because you're used to the text. Walking away for a little while and letting your brain purge it a little bit allows you to come back with fresh eyes that can more easily spot mistakes. It also helps if you're iffy on a part, you can usually come back with fresh ideas and/or new solutions.

Even now with my enemies AU, I tell my beta to give me a few days after I finish a chapter because I walk away before going back to proofread it. The writing process can be stressful, and most writers I know struggle with the nagging sense of perfectionism. We want to edit and edit again until a piece is perfect. Accepting that an initial draft is going to need work and allowing myself to just walk away and let it be bad for a little bit while I consider ways to improve it makes for better revisions in the long run. The drafts I send to my betas are far more polished, and I tend to be happier with them. Let your stories rest, then come back to them. It will help level up your writing tremendously.

9. Find betas you work well with

All that being said, my betas were the real mvps of this project. I revised 21 chapters before I started posting this one (and tbh it was more than that because it took time to get previous chapters beta read so I'd just keep going). My betas were my sole source of feedback on this project for months. I recommend having a variety of skillsets in your beta team. I had someone who was more grammar focused, someone who gave general feedback on the direction of the story and characters, and someone who gave more reactionary feedback to specific things within the chapter. They reacted as if they were a reader to give me an idea of whether or not readers would enjoy the story. These comments were what kept me from getting discouraged or burned out.

Writers naturally crave feedback and comments from readers. We want to know people enjoy our work. Going months working on a project with no feedback can be agony. Find betas you work well with. Or friends. Get other eyes on your work to leave you comments. Not only will it improve your craft because betas can spot things and offer outside perspectives you may not see on your own, and they can give you much desired feedback to keep those dry patches from swallowing you and your motivation.

Trust me, I spent a long time in this fandom just spitting out stories and throwing them on ao3 dot com. And I will say I don't get everything beta read. Short drabbles and one shots I just edit myself. But for big projects especially, I highly recommend getting a beta or two or three. You will improve. Guaranteed.

10. Always be doing something

This sounds obvious, but not in the way you're probably thinking. I said always be doing something, not always be writing. Editing is something. Outlining is something. Brainstorming is something. Reviewing beta feedback is something. There are many other aspects to writing than just writing. Even on days when I wasn't writing for mdcspr, I was doing something. I was editing, I was reviewing my outline and brainstorming, I was making my playlist, I was considering what songs to use for what scenes, I was setting goals, I was rereading old chapters that were finished. Pretty much every day I was doing something to keep the story fresh in my mind and keep forward momentum on the project.

But Cat, I thought you said walk away. Yes. From individual chapters. But you should be doing something for your project most days of the week. Take a break if you need it, but if you want to finish, you have to keep working. I found that if I needed a break from writing, working on the playlist or compiling outfit references on pinterest was a good way to keep the story at the front of my brain. I was working on it, even when I wasn't physically writing. This helped me develop a deeper understanding of my characters that made them easier to write in the long run. Understanding their style helped develop their personalities and mannerisms. Figuring out what songs and lyrics the characters might relate to in any given scene helped put me in their head. You don't have to write every day, but you should do something. Big projects take time, and they're going to take even longer if you take long breaks. Marathon, not a sprint. Keep the momentum going, pace yourself, do something.

Keep in mind, writing is a very individual process. What works for me, may not work for you. These are just a few things I found that helped me push through a big project. Find a process that works for you and go for it. If these tips work for you, great! At the end of the day, you have to figure out what works for you and develop your own methods and process.
