mc cant make bread at the house of lamentation. unless its one with a very short resting time and while beel is away at a game/other time consuming activity bc otherwise he just. eats the raw dough. and likes it like a sweet lil weirdo. and of course he gets rly guilty abt it seeing mcs face when they come outta the kitchen like 'does anyone know what happened to my bread 🥺'

sometimes if he knows mc wants to make bread hell make a point to stay out for most of the day so hes not tempted. otherwise mc has to go to the demon lords castle (fancy and prolly has a proof box, but availability can be spotty) or purgatory hall (risk of solomon)

also, since the devildom tends to be much warmer than the human world i bet rising/rest times are cut much shorter. but it begs the question of if yeasts native to the devildom need higher temperatures to activate. probably i feel thatd make sense.

also mild fluff headcanon: barbatos sees mc's interest in the differences between human world and devildom yeasts and helps them build a lil sourdough starter experiment where they make ones from the different types and see how they compare :) And since starters can become specialized to the bacteria of the person who made it (when its mixed by hand) they obvs have to each do a set of human world and devildom starters (barb likes to give them bread made from the starters specialized to him cuz it feels like a way of marking mc :3 )

Okay okay, Beel eating bread dough, though. And deliberately making sure he's not home when MC wants to bake bread, that is so so CUTE. Poor baby Beel can't keep himself away from the bread dough and has to leave the house entirely so MC can bake some bread in peace, please that's adorable.

I definitely think the castle is probably the best option for alternative baking locations. As you pointed out, Purgatory Hall is too risky.

I know nothing about yeast. The only bread I've ever baked has been bread that's actually cake. You know, like pumpkin bread and zucchini bread. They're really cake, right? They taste like cake. I think it's the loaf formation that causes people to call them bread. All of this is to say that I feel I have learned some new facts about yeast. It never ever would have crossed my mind that the Devildom temperature would impact the rate at which yeast rises. And I LOVE the idea of native Devildom yeast!

You killed me with that fluffy Barb headcanon... BARB give me all your bread made from your specialized starters lasdfkjldfkj. Everyone must know whose bread I'm eating!! I know i talk abt how much of a sweetheart he...well, is capable of being, but he is also so sus to almost everyone he meets at first. the thing abt a sourdough starter is that i love bread, both eating and baking it, and i love bacteria. so like. its truly the best idea for me isnt it. like... you can grow bacteria at home and its actually your friend you can make bread with???? damn. truly the gift that keeps on giving

sourdough starter kind of scares me but i do think jean moreau would have a jar of starter and care for it like a child in his 30s. he’s got bread to make and if anyone fucks with his six year old sourdough starter there’s going to be issues. no one else is allowed to even touch the jar. sometimes kevin moves it to get to something and jean is like What the fuck is wrong with you and kevin just puts up with it bc what’s he supposed to do? not let jean treat the starter like a member of the family?

I'll start with Oregon. Little warning now for weed nicotine alcohol and a small hunting mention i guess? Just in case <3

He's chill! He's cool, he's doing alright. In his own words "good, not great". He seems pretty tight with Washington, they're besties.

The West Coast really do scream "dysfunctional family dynamics" don't they?

(Aka, my three girlfriends West Coast boys, and yes, they smoke weed.)

Anyway, he's with Washington the most. That bit of them hanging out together alone while ignoring California's calls? Yeah, that's them all the time. Washington info dumps about tech and Oregon is a little book nerd who absorbs info (Powell's city of books) and it's a very good combo. They share local coffee shop and microbrew recs and go hiking they are!! Hiking bros!!! They are also couch locked high as fuck watching runbacks of 2004 Cartoon Network bros!!! That La Niña bond!!!

Definitely get very philosophical a lot in conversation, like Wash gets viscerally emotional over space stuff and cried over Spirit the rover being shut down (rip to the real ones i miss them all) and Oregon is like god yeah man human attachment to inanimate objects is so wild. They'll either talk about it for hours OR bounce between topics so stupidly fast they don't even remember why they're talking about what they are or how they got on the topic from where they started.

Sorry for talking abt them forever I just think they're best friends.

As I mentioned Oregon is a big book nerd, he likes nature, probably has a house plant problem (they are all named), he hikes, and HUNTS!

This mf bow hunts, drag this out of my cold hands. Gun too sure but BOW HUNT OREGON. Washington gets icked about blood and killing animals probably so Oregon goes alone. Or maybe with Alaska sometimes? I really love Alaska and the PNW getting along for some reason.

Idaho is Built Ford Tough thats for fuckin sure, this man's a farmer. And he fishes. He unironically owns several dad joke fishing shirts and a women love me, fish fear me hat. I love him. He's pretty outgoing, he Wyoming and Montana are all fairly good pals, hunting buddies and football friends definitely. Sometimes Colorado is alright to hang with, mostly when Denver is a little quieter.

And in a similar fashion, he and Oregon will get into bitchy fights bc Oregon really is still centered around Portland. Married couple spats yk?

Honestly they're just like. Domestic? I guess? They'll go on weekend hunting trips, Idaho really likes to cook esp with game, Oregon likes to try and pair whatever they're eating with a beer if applicable. It's usually applicable, they're "it's past five pm so it's socially acceptable to have a beer now, right?" people. They definitely have a wicked sourdough starter. Oregon likes kombucha sometimes and Ida thinks it's a hell liquid. They go to fuckin Albertsons and bring back like eight things they didn't need.

I've got a hc I've mentioned somewhere before that the West Coast/PNW including Ida have horrific nicotine addictions, and that Ida goes straight for cigarettes or steals off Oregon, who vapes and has a Juul that they scratched their names into with a pin. They're like That couple.

Idk they're in a way like the country/city boy dynamic but also not? Like Oregon is a bit rough and tumble he isn't a pure city boy. And Ida is like not country per se, more game hunting fisher boy. But it's similar yk? A little bit

Their dates are CUTE, they got that weekend hunting trip, Idaho is land locked so Oregon takes him down the coast, or like to an obscure distillery for flight tasting. Otherwise they just do movie nights and nice dinners. Oregon has taken them hiking to a nice place to see stars and has re-info dumped information from Wash about the stars and stuff and Ida is like wow that's so neat, absolutely not looking at the stars he's looking at Oregon.

I could get into angst but maybe i save that for now since I'm talkin about them bein cute and happy and i want them to have that rn tbh

"i looks gross!!! is this even vegan???? what the fuck is wrong with you making this????" this is a sourdough starter. natural yeast that lives on grain eats the sugars and makes co2 which makes bread rise. bakers yeast is like a dried, lab grown version of this. are you 5 years old. this is what is in every yeast bread you have ever eaten. sourdough also has bacteria (THAT IS SAFE TO EAT) that gives it a tang or 'sour' flavor, like in yogurt.

humans have been fermenting food for thousands of years i promise it is not scary and if you have a fear of holes you can keep scrolling you do not need to comment abt how much it scares u and grosses u out bc then you'll only see more of it

my starter is super active and bubbly now, and i’ve baked a few loaves of bread with it!

it took my starter way longer than i expected it to take to be ready to bake with. i was expecting two weeks and it took about a month and a half but we got there eventually!

when i was a kid i fell on a glass table and it broke and i had to get stitches and stuff and couldn't sleep on my back til I got them out

i ate a whole tomato like it was an apple when i was like 8 in poland

another time in poland i got chased by a chicken and it was the most terrifying thing ever at the time

one time at the beach me and my older brother were playing in the water and stuff and he pushed me down and i got a mouthful of salty ass water and split my little toe and the side of my foot open on a slippy rock and waddled over to my parents and since my feet were wet the sand got stuck to my injured foot and i was abt to lose my mind

i used to be scared of sourdough bread starters

one time i told this kid that i was scared of the little girl from the ring and that sometimes i was scared she'd come after me and he told my mom abt it infront of a bunch of other ppl and my mom was like nooo matt isn't scared of anything right matt?? and i had to act all tough and stuff cus i got embarrassed that he told people abt my fear of the ring girl
