hi, i’ve spoken a lot about my friend, Safaa ( @sfaamq10 ) but today, i’ll let her speak for herself with a message she’s sent to me today:

“We're in a very bad position.We haven't eaten in two days. There's nothing edible. My son is very hungry. We die from the cold. Winter over us. My tent is completely destroyed.I suffer from anaemia due to malnutrition. If we don't die from war, we die from hunger and cold.

Our lives are terribly tormented.”

Safaa currently has had her tent destroyed by heavy rain, which is common during winter in mediterranean countries. Combine having no protection with a looming famine and you have an absolutely devastating effect.

Now can you imagine raising this sweet baby in these conditions?

I can’t imagine myself in that situation, but Safaa and her husband are living what i’m describing to you.

I’ve communicated with safaa for a while now and can tell you that she’s a kind and caring person. Every time we speak, she asks how i’m doing and expresses worry over me. She risks her life to text me and document everything. Despite her life being way worse than anyone not in Gaza could imagine. So, i’m asking and fucking pleading with you all to help her get money for a new tent, blankets and the little aid left in south Gaza.

Neoptolemus! Reader and Dads! Achilles and Patroclus (+ Zagreus LI)

• OK, first of all, we must make it clear that both Achilles and Patroclus had an interest in women in the Iliad, which is why I consider them bisexual icons in this post. If you don't share this, that's okay. Just don't go crazy in the comments.

• Going directly to how the hell Pyrrhus/Neo was conceived, when Patroclus and Achilles had a temporary polyamorous relationship with one of the princesses of the king who was hosting them. That's right, Deidamia.

• One thing led to another, and Neoptolemus! reader ended up being born.

• Even if the relationship didn't work out, Patroclus and Achilles maintained a good relationship with her! Not only for being the mother of Achilles' son, but for generally having great affection for her. But they could not maintain a stable relationship due to both of their positions as Myrmidons.

• Neoptolemus was raised much of the time by his mother, with visits from Achilles/Patroclus here and there. But he was definitely a mama's boy.

• I like to imagine Achilles bringing Neoptolemus!reader small gifts from his missions, things like toys carved by him, some of the treasures he found with the Myrmidons, and especially telling him stories about Chiron and when he and Patroclus were young.

• Young Achilles is also rougher when it comes to playing with small Neoptolemus, doing things like throwing him in the air for Pat to catch, or spinning him around at high speed by grabbing his feet.

• Pat is gentler, and has enough brains to scold Achilles if he is being too rough or too honest with the boy (not censoring the blood or shady parts).

• Instead, Pat prefers to spend time with Neo doing things like reading, collecting snails with Deidamia, or taking him horseback riding.

• They have both done the thing of playing Pookaboo with the helmet. It's adorable.

• They are less tactful as Neo!reader grows. And they start doing things that are more��of the time. Like thinking about whether to train him properly or whether to let the child be a diplomatic prince when he grows up.

• (this definitely caused a fight between Achilles and Deidamia/Pat at the time when he was more self-centered and hungry for glory, wanting his son to be just like him without thinking about what would happen if he died)

• This does not mean that Achilles did not love his son, absolutely not, he would sack all of Troy for him (unintentional joke), but in those moments he never thought what would happen next.

• When the prophecy is made and Achilles has to hide as a woman, it is one of his most difficult moments to cooperate because he cannot interact with Neo!reader unless he wants to be discovered, so he endures it.

• When the whole Troy thing happens, you can bet Achilles was devastated. Not only has his lover died, but now, because of the prophecy, his son was going to have to grow up without a father.

• the Son whom he had not seen for more than 10 years, would he even remember him? Would he think he abandoned him? Is he even living a good life? Even if it was fine, there are so many things lost…

• What could be worse than this?

• What Achilles knew least about the underworld, not even Patroclus, was that Neo!reader had to replace his father in the war.

• Neo!reader had grown up to be someone strong, having many expectations on him, after all, he was his father's son. But it seemed like no one understood that he was just a kid.

• A boy who was sent to the front.

• Even if Neo!reader appreciated what he had learned from his father and Patroclus, he had lacked them for years. So he was easily influenced by Agamemnon's other soldiers and trusted men.

• And so, the last stage of the war took place, where there was more blood, more destruction, more pain.

• Neo!reader believed this was for the greater good, his father's legacy, what other men were doing, he had finally BECOME a man...right?

• Neo!reader was desperate to prove his worth, becoming known for his ruthless acts in war and his short temper. All in order to carry this out.

• However, no matter how much approval he received from his peers, or how many treasures he had at the end of the war, it all felt empty. He felt empty. Because he was devastated. Destroyed.

• How was he going to return home, to his mother, after what he had done? The things he had seen? He could no longer be a normal boy, or even live a peaceful life with the supposed “honor and Glory” that his father talked about so much.

• he was alone.

• And he was until the end.

• Neo!reader wasn't even very involved in talking about the way he died, in general you could tell that the death made him someone even more moody and bitter. But because of the pain more than anything else.

• Still, no one wanted to mess with the bloody son of the fearsome Achilles, so the souls tend to leave him alone. Just how it wants to be…how it should be.

• Neo!reader has a strange condition, he is one of the few souls that are not linked only to a single part of Hades. After all, he has done great things, which have made him deserve to be in Elysium, but also abominable acts, which deserve the Tartar.

• Thanks to his terrible self-image, Neo!reader tends to be in Tartarus more than he should, precisely because he believes it is the place where he belongs.

• However, what he least expected was to run into someone willing to listen to him or try to become his friend.

• Yup, Zagreus.

• To be honest, Zag didn't even know that Neo was the son of Achilles. He just saw this boy alone and isolated and wanted to talk to him.

• the initial response? A fight that returned Zag to the house of Hades in less than an hour. Now he was intrigued.

• I would say that the original dynamic of Zag and Neo is that of Spiderman and one of his villains. I mean, Zag trying to lighten the mood with jokes, only annoying Neo even more.

• (even if Neo laughed at Zag's jokes, in the initial stage he would rather drown on broken glass than admit it).

• Probably one day Zag innocently goes up to Achilles after he was finally able to make Neo laugh (and die shortly after) to tell him about this boy he's seeing.

• Obviously at first Achilles doesn't think much about it, however, when Zag mentions the name NEOPTOLEMUS something goes BOOM in his head.

• HIS SON IS DEAD?!.... HIS SON IS IN TARTARUS?!

• The entire family drama is unraveled along with Patrochilles and it is Zagreus's duty to fix it.

• I wouldn't say that Neo is resentful of Pat as many people make him out to be, he saw him as his godfather, a good guy. And he's definitely the one he reconciles with first.

• Neo, ironically, has the most trouble dealing with ACHILLES.

• A part of Neo still resents him for having glorified everything about war when in practice it was something that traumatized him for life, hurt many (himself included) and in general blames him for having died too soon to take your place.

• Obviously Achilles is HORRIFIED to learn that his pre-teen son had to cover his absence on the Trojan battlefield, he genuinely feels horrible and would practically be BEGGING the reader for forgiveness.

• Although this would take several therapy sessions with Zag honestly. This family has problems.

• If we talk about the Post-Game relationship, it is much more stable.

• Achilles and Pat try to keep up with the things Neo did (preferably not the infamous ones) and try to take advantage of the fact that they now have a lot of time to kill.

• If Neo and Zag end up being more than friends, it's drama in a good way.

• Achilles sees Zag as a very good boy, who definitely does his son good and is more than happy to call him family.

• Of course, he is going to give him the typical talk of “IF YOU DO SOMETHING TO MY SON I WILL MAKE YOU WISH YOU WERE DEAD.”

• Which Zagreus takes VERY seriously.

• Patroclus is much calmer, he likes to annoy them by calling them names or giving those typical “I know everything” looks.

• And of course, he's scarier when he gives the shovel talk. He has no problem reminding Zag that if he does anything to Neo THEY WILL KNOW.

• If I had to compare Zag x Neo to a popular ship, it would probably be Batman x Wonder woman. You can guess which is which.

• I can't not see Neo as the super serious couple and Zag who has to say no, Neo isn't angry, that's his face in its natural state.

• While Neo takes things super seriously, even if they're small, Zag has to remind him to calm down a little before he kills someone.

• Ironically now ZAGREUS has Scary Dog Privilege with Neo. He's literally the only person Zag knows who is shorter than him and people are more afraid of him.

• Generally, a family that has had enough pain. Let them be happy. PLEASE.

Q. But Tim could say things in a much better way and still not give anything away. Saying things the way he is makes it sound like they know what they're doing looks like making them a couple but they have no intention of actually making them canon.

A. I'm going to try and answer this in a way that is impossible to misunderstand. What you just described would end their show. If this show is in any way intentionally and purposely doing anything close to what you're suggesting they're doing then they're finished. And that's not hyperbole. I understand that what I'm about to say will be devastating for certain people, but it is the truth. The Buddie shippers/fandom makes up, at minimum, half of 911's viewing audience. Not some, half. And that number might be low balling it at this point. There is no show without them. You're basically saying that Tim, ABC and Ryan Murphy productions are willingly sabotaging their own show. I'm not kidding. They would be asking half the audience, of the number one rated show on their network, to look past the fact that they were intentionally queerbaited and played. Because that's what Tim, ABC and Ryan Murphy Productions would be guilty of doing. One hundred percent they would be guilty of queerbaiting with Eddie if he doesn't realize he's into men or at least into Buck at this point. Not only that, they would then be asking that same audience to watch, and invest in their new show and trust them to tell stories for those characters. That's what you're suggesting they're doing. On top of that that would also require Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman, captains of the Buddie ship, two actors who love their characters unconditionally, and who have twisted themselves into pretzels in an effort to avoid being accused of misleading anyone to go along with, and willingly be the face of that queerbaiting. Because both actors are playing it like two men headed for a relationship. Oliver is playing it like a man who knows he loves Eddie, and is about to figure out he's actually IN love with Eddie. Do you understand what you're saying? You're saying all these people decided to just say screw it lets ruin everything we've worked for, and in ABC's case, spent millions of dollars on. That's not what's happening here, anon.

Tim is a show runner of 20 plus years. A successful show runner. Nothing last night happened by accident. He didn't accidentally write them the way he wrote them last night. He didn't accidentally not catch the 'out you' line. That line didn't make it out of the writers room, through rewrites, through the table read, then through rehearsals, then through filming and finally though the edit room with no one catching it. Bullshit. They're going the relationship route he just doesn't want to spoil the outcome. Last night was full fanfic. You cannot write that accidentally. His interview pattern is annoying on every level, god it's annoying. He can absolutely answer things less condescending than he does, but it's been his style forever. It's not going to change. But they're not faking people out. There's no coming back from something like that. Especially in today's climate in the U.S. it would be the end of their series. Look at the last year from a fandom not even a fraction of the Buddie size. It's been horrible, and they're pissed off by shit they invented completely in their heads. Now imagine a fandom triple that size, with canon receipts to back up their rage. There would be no coming back from that. And they all know it. They're not playing with their audience. They just don't want to give the game away until they're ready.

AHHHH greta your ranking of people that deaged! dick met,,, im chewing ice furiously. it's so so heartbreaking to think about because both tim and damian (esp damian) are so adamant in their belief that being robin was a good thing, maybe the best thing to happen to them. in fact, each robin feels that way (even jason and to a certain degree, steph!!!). and that is so at war with dick's internal belief that his mother's name, the grayson legacy, his legacy- has been bastardized,,, the colours being gone from damian's suit, especially!! it would be so hard for deaged!dick to reconcile that he was, in fact, the one who primarily designed damian's suit but to him (current!dick), that erosion of the colours and his legacy was exactly that- an erosion- it happened gradually and over time and too often, dick felt like a bystander with a lack of agency despite the fact that each subsequent robin was looking to him for approval or guidance or commiseration or just understanding. if deaged!dick had exactly any idea how much of an enabler he has been, too in what robin became to mean to gotham, to all these kids, i think he would actually combust from self-hatred (beyond what he has assumed and gleaned from events in fic!verse). anyway, I just wanted to say i read the newest chapter and actually lost all semblance of being able to articulate anything i was feeling. it all just felt like GRIEF. the awful, awful burning feeling of being seventeen, I think if I had to meet 17 yo me, I, too would actually want to die. it truly, truly was a joy to read and I'm so grateful you shared this fic with us,,, ur brain is so BIG!!! thank you for sharing your words with us im gonna be thinking about it all for days and days <3

tyvm!!! really really glad it resonated!! it’s interesting how part 3 is being read cause to me like…. as much as no one can understand his mindset, 17yo dick grayson is just not equipped to understand exactly how much the world has changed in a decade. he notices that the manor has been rebuilt, and that the gotham skyline has changed, but how would one explain death in the family, or the cataclysm, or no man’s land, or knightfall, or contagion, or the crisis, or donna and bruce’s deaths? can he really understand that being robin was a bright spot in these kids lives, regardless of the grief? that’s the nature of the tragedy — things are so much worse and so much better than he could imagine.

in saying that though — there’s a lot dick will let slide because he and bruce love each other to the point of ruin. that’s something dick, ten years younger and hurting and grieving, was immediately able to clock. what dick does as an adult, the purposeful distance he build around himself from others, both protects and hurts him. he keeps his cards so close to his chest. he fears being truly seen. in this post-crisis universe, when his role as robin ended in heartbreak, was there ever a point when it could’ve passed on peacefully? or is he doomed to repeat that cycle, however intentionally kind, to tim?

he is a witness to his own grief. he is loved, but every action they take proves that these people don’t know him. he cannot change what has already happened. he is trapped in a past that is long since over. if he understood how hurt bruce had been, the extent to which robin was a crutch for his sense of control, what would he think? if he understood what happened to stephanie — bruces fear pushed to an absolute limit to devastating results — would he be able to live with himself? would he recognise himself at all? like the ship of theseus, he is slowly stripped of everything but name. everything is so precious that sharing it is painful.

Katniss is one of The best female characters I have ever read in my life

I AM SO GRATEFUL THERE WERE CONSQUENCES From the games!! Like Katniss has permanent hearing damage. PEETA lost his LEG

Katniss' severe PTSD was so harsh and brutal and so so so good

Haymitch was such a little guy and I adored him for that. What I really liked about his character was that like -- he survived the Hunger Games. This was not a good thing. He was devastated by the fact that his family was killed and the only way he coped with that was by drinking. There was no getting better. There was no magic fix. It didn't just go away. Then he had to train and prepare 20 kids to go fight in the Games just like he did, knowing that he was sending them all out to die or survive like he did, and I have to imagine that toward the end, Haymitch probably hoped they died. It was easier than living

The Capitol was absolutely horrifying

The PTSD from the Games was vivid and it was so nice to see that this horrible bad thing that happened to the characters didn't just go away because they were in another book. Like it impacted their choices forever

Katniss and Peeta about to take the berries reminded me of Romeo and Juliet and I think that was probably on purpose. Neither can live without the other.

KATNISS IS FREAKING SIXTEEN AND ACTS LIKE SHE'S SIXTEEN

Katniss runs off and screams and cries and breaks down and fails and makes selfish decisions and selfless decisions and like she is SUCH A GOOD CHARACTER. Like I Honestly didn't think there would be a female character that competed with Joan Watson for #1 female for me, but Katniss is like. She's up there.

Gale was overall meh to me. He was There, but the emotional impact he had on Katniss was overall... yeah. just dots.

I'm really glad that Katniss was able to heal enough after 15 years from the Games to have kids. She wanted kids, and the mothering instinct is there, but she didn't want to bring them into a world where they wouldn't be safe. But Katniss having kids means that she does feel safe.

like all I'd heard about the Hunger Games was book 1, so everything after that to me was just ?????? and I was SO MAD but it made so much sense from the Capitol's perspective and I so wanted to strangle Snow.

District 13 overall annoyed me tbh, but I did get where they were coming from.

Everything in this series is so heavy. Like you feel the weight of the entire world just seeping down on you and it's actually kind of nice. I feel like the Hunger Games decided yeah, this is a dark, gloomy kinda world and then kept that tone. Books that keep the tone are SO RARE and i adore them.

I love how a running theme in the series was that they have to document everything. There are video cameras everywhere, recording, always recording, and if they aren't it didn't happen. But Katniss is screaming IT HAPPENED IT HAPPENED anyway. Like with Rue's death.

I love that Peeta is so protective of Katniss, but would wholey hold her bow while she punched someone in the face. Like he's protective of her while respecting her strengths.

Well, there was that time when you called Steve a 'himbo,' or when Steve was repelled by the smell of a lab accident, or when you finally snap at too many classified secrets stacked between you and Steve. You have arguments, but not all of them are knock-down drag-outs.

It's important that you two do talk in order to come to an understanding of what is truly wrong or upsetting because, as we all know, sometimes neither of you starts off by saying exactly that.

Time together alone is critical. You two are not public in almost any sense of the word, so you are skilled is setting whatever feelings there are aside until you can openly speak. Being alone sometimes still means being physically separate. Touching can be distracting and avoids the crux of the issue (usually, except the first like half a year you dated, whoops), so sorting through your feelings and putting them into words may take a while but ends up best.

There have been arguments that even take alone-alone time, where you two have some space before coming together again. It's rare, but when frustrations run really high, Steve is not a fan of that energy bleeding into physical touch or everyday tasks. He hates associating any negativity with you. (You're human. He knows that. So is he. Just...no more than absolutely necessary.)

After all that--and only after all that is worked out--Steve and you are very tender to each other. You ease back into each other. Proximity is intimacy. Steve favorite small gesture is to put his arm over you while you two read on the couch. Yours is to tuck him to your chest as you fall asleep.

It's devastating to you that Steve censors his own future.

We all like to imagine the good in our lives lasting forever, and Steve does that, too. He simply...doesn't imagine ever getting any more of you than he does now. He doesn't think to expect that part of you two together ever evolves because that would be somehow demanding...anything. He feels ungrateful for how far you've come, and that is so much more than he ever hoped to have.

Thus, he censors what he could want and expect from you. Happy homecomings, enthusiastic reunions, intense and escalating sexual relations (yes, I know that sounds clinical, but that's how his brain thinks of these things) are, each time, welcome events. He refuses to explore his desires. Steve guilts himself into being grateful and that's it.

I mention this in conjunction with arguments and making up because it's not something you can be angry at other than it's a shame he cannot incorporate his physical satisfaction with general life.

(That gets explored in 'Not A Perfect Soldier But A Good Man,' a sex pollen exposure that breaks down Steve's defenses around that.)

Ack, ok, wounds are...yikes. Steve fusses an unbelievable amount, even if only internally. He will plan out like six levels of 'how much to help' as you recover from something. If he is the one who got hurt (because he doesn't get sick, nope, never), then just ignore it; he'll be fine in no time. The serum is the serum is the serum. He has no business needing to be taken care of.

Bullocks.

Obviously, Steve is completely full of shit on this subject.

Once you get past his guarded dismissal, he needs tender, loving care. Steve needs reminding that not only is he still human but that being human is enough, even if he heals quickly.

In all honestly, his worst wounds are psychological. Those take patience and encouragement to speak openly.

Though unrealistic about his own health needs, Steve is (usually) thorough in his focus on your healing. At first, in the very early days, he had to be subtle, like when you hurt your hand...twice, and he's been fine accessing your mental health needs since the beginning. Seriously that's...pretty much the whole setup to this series...

There are times--adjacent to the heat of battle, let's say--when Steve does default to trusting your own strength while he continues to handle something urgent. You're an adult; he doesn't baby you. He's just gentle and as doting as possible when you two have time to be alone.

There are ongoing snippy-convos, not arguments, about taking medications for various things. He isn't fond of you dismissing your own pain--ex: you have a headache but won't take a pill--but respects your choice to treat your body how you wish. (Healthy, though, because ((and he will use this language)) he won't fucking stand for disordered eating to control your appearance. Media can fuck off in this regard.)

No deep-seated regrets, no. There's little things, things you both wish you'd gotten over faster or learned earlier, but all-in-all, everything that happens to you and in your relationship happens for a reason and exactly when it's supposed to happen. Lord knows, the excitement and the sorrow of the life of an Avenger leaves very little desire to spice up your world much more.

Lingo- Damian Wayne

I absolutely love the idea of Damian speaking like a Victorian child. However, after some forced socialization with kids his age—because Bruce, Alfred, and literally everyone else insisted he needed to at least pretend to be normal—he manages to sound relatively typical when he’s at school. His vocabulary is still more advanced than most, and he enunciates like someone who grew up reading 19th-century literature for fun, but for the most part, he blends in.

That is, until it comes to slang.

Under no circumstances will he use it.

He is adamant that “it is completely and utterly undignified, and I shall not subject myself or others to hearing such idiotic expressions.” If someone so much as says “bruh” in his general vicinity, he looks at them like they’ve personally insulted his ancestors. He once corrected someone’s grammar in the middle of an argument, and when they called him out for it, he responded with: “If you insist on wasting my time with your mindless drivel, the least you can do is ensure it is grammatically sound.”

So imagine everyone’s surprise when, one fateful night on patrol, Damian—Damian—commits an unforgivable linguistic crime.

It starts with a routine argument between him and Jason. They’re bickering as usual, the kind of back-and-forth that escalates with every exchanged insult. Maybe it started with a disagreement over strategy, maybe it was about their different approaches to crime-fighting, or maybe it was just one of those nights where Jason exists and that annoys Damian.

Somewhere along the way, though, the conversation veers into Jason’s love life. Or rather, his complete and utter lack thereof.

And that’s when it happens.

Damian, with the precision of a trained assassin and the eloquence of a 19th-century scholar, delivers the most articulate, devastating insult of Jason’s entire life:

“It’s truly fascinating how you manage to exist in a state of perpetual romantic obscurity, as though the very concept of attraction flees at the mere whisper of your presence. One could almost admire the consistency with which you repel companionship—if it weren’t so profoundly tragic. You navigate social interaction with the grace of a concussed pigeon, wielding all the charm of a damp cardboard box, utterly devoid of even a shred of rizz to speak of.”

There is silence.

For precisely 0.3 seconds, Gotham itself seems to hold its breath.

And then—chaos.

Barbara and the rest of the Batfamily, all listening in through comms, absolutely lose their minds. Dick is wheezing. Tim has collapsed. Even Bruce, who normally ignores their nonsense during patrol, makes a noise that sounds suspiciously like a suppressed laugh.

But Jason—Jason is gone.

He had just been in the process of swapping out his rubber bullets for live rounds, fully prepared to shoot the little menace where he stood, but now? Now, he’s too busy wheezing. He’s doubled over on the rooftop, Damian trying to decide if he’s actually been Joker-gassed because surely that’s the only explanation for the full-body hysteria overtaking him. He’s laughing so hard he can’t breathe, clutching his ribs like Damian just physically punched him instead of verbally eviscerating him.

Meanwhile, Barbara has already saved the audio clip.

Within the hour, it has been shared with everyone.

Stephanie is howling. Cass has listened to it at least ten times, a tiny, amused smile on her face. Alfred has archived it. Even Bruce, in an act of fatherly cruelty, casually brings it up during training the next day: “Perhaps, Jason, if you weren’t so romantically obscure—”

Jason almost throws a Batarang at him.

And Damian? Damian wants to die. He wants to scrub his own mouth out with soap, to undo the abomination that just came out of his own lips.

But there is no escape.

Barbara is still laughing so hard she might actually need medical attention. She is crying. She cannot breathe.

Jason, once he recovers, vows to never let Damian live it down.

Because for all his talk of dignity, for all his insistence that slang is beneath him, Damian Wayne—assassin, genius, heir to the League of assassins—has uttered the word “rizz.”

And there is no coming back from that.

A lot of the Orphydice propaganda is about Hadestown, which is understandable. It’s a fantastic show. But it is also NOT the only absolutely devastating version of the story! May I introduce SARAH RUHL’S EURYDICE!! PLAY THAT MAKES ME INSANE!!!

I think this play does a very good job of showing their love as a tragic paradox: By existing, it destroys itself. The opening notes in the script describe them as “a little too young and a little too in love,” and I think that summarizes them perfectly. Orpheus’s love is what causes him to turn around to look at Eurydice. Earlier in the play, Eurydice dies because she falls down a staircase trying to run back to her wedding. In this play, these characters don’t belong together. They cannot help but love each other. They don’t belong together, YET STILL THEY LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH!!! AND THEY THINK OF EACH OTHER!!!! AND THEY CALL OUT TO EACH OTHER (a recurring motif)!!!! In their final scene together, as they’re exiting the underworld, Eurydice becomes afraid and calls out to him, and he turns around on instinct.

“Orpheus looks at Eurydice. Eurydice looks at Orpheus. The world falls away.”

That’s them. That’s it, that moment of looking at each other, of knowing their is an ocean between them, that they have both doomed one another, and yet still that they cannot help but love each other or care about anything else in that moment— that’s them. Their love is definitionally tragic. It cannot be not tragic, but it also cannot be not love.

Eurydice has no sense of rhythm. Orpheus is always thinking about music. She reads philosophy and he doesn’t understand why and he is always imagining things she can’t see. Orpheus isn’t himself without his music, and Eurydice feels as though she belongs in the Underworld. And there is no music in the Underworld.

“It’s dangerous not / to have a sense of rhythm. / You lose things when you can’t / keep a simple beat,“ Orpheus tells her. But she can’t. She calls his name and she doesn’t know why and all she can say to him is “I’m sorry.” And she can’t help but turn around to look at the underworld.

And when Orpheus is gone Eurydice writes him a letter saying, “I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me. I was afraid. But I still love you, I think. Don’t try to find me again. You would be lonely for music.” I DIED. FOREVER. WHAT THE HELL. THEYRE A DOOMED LOVE DO YOU UNDERSTAND ITS A LOVE THAT CANNOT EXIST BUT TO BE DOOMED BUT IT CANNOT HELP EXISTING AND IT CANNOT HELP DESTROYING ITSELF.

AND WHEN THE PLAY ENDS!!!! WHEN THE PLAY ENDS ORPHEUS COMES DOWN TO THE UNDERWORLD AND FOR A MOMENT SEES EURYDICE AND RECOGNIZES HER AND HE LIGHTS UP— AND THEN HES SHOWERED BY THE WATER OF THE RIVER LETHE AND HE FORGETS. OH MY GOD

*Minor Spoilers* I was recced this fic by this post, and was intrigued by what this face smacking plot might be. And oh boy, they were right. This fic is pretty filthy, I've been reading smut for years and even I blushed at some scenes (Crowley's oyster thoughts hello??). So be prepared for the smut to be the main course. But it's paired with a gripping plot imagining what could happen with The Second Coming. Actually a lot of the themes here I could see being worked into the actual canon. It takes a lot of what S1 and the book was really about and uses it in a very clever way. It finds a way to slightly mirror the Adam plot line from S1 with it's Jesus plot. There will be many twists and turns that you aren't expecting, but they feel so satisfying because of the threads that were laid all throughout the story.

Crowley and Aziraphale here are ravenous and desperate for each other. Despite all the danger and barriers, they absolutely cannot walk away from each other. It's devastating how much they need each other when it's never been more dangerous for them. This story isn't afraid to push them. They're not always their best selves here, sure most of it is pressure from Heaven, but that isn't the only thing that pushes boundaries. They make mistakes and hurt each other badly, but the point of it all is that they are willing to work on making it better. I love that this author includes safe words and isn't afraid to use them. A lot of fics will have characters discuss safe wording, but then never use them or explore what using them is like. There's angst here, but it's not depressing or too heavy. And eventually we'll get our happy ending.

Excellent after dark read. Remember this is porn with plot, not plot with porn. So don't be reading this next to grandma! You're also not going to want to put this one down, so make sure you can settle in and read this in one go. It's very much worth it!

Okay so! I haven’t read ANYTHING long-form on AO3 in a hot minute, just too much else going on so I fell off the Obedience train pretty hard. I think the last time I read about these two was actually around the end of the Graduation arc! I recently saw one of your updates on tumblr, went back to catch up on what I had missed at around 2am last night and haven’t gone to bed yet because I had to binge every chapter of Sabbatical up until now. 

I was going to comment along the way as I did, but I saw that non-Archive users weren’t able to comment so I decided to wait until I finished before storming into your DMs to tell you how much I missed these two and all their will-they won’t-they nonsense. And imagine my absolute jubilation when I realised WE’RE REALLY DOING THIS BOYS. THEY’VE FINALLY ADMITTED (TO THEMSELVES, AT LEAST) THAT THEY’RE IN LOVE. WE’RE MAKING PROGRESSSSS

I’m not going to go through all the minutiae, but I’m delighted with all these new characters. I love that Shen has new friends in the lifestyle with Mara, Verin and River, and Kelran says what we all wish we could beam through the screen into Rizeth’s thick skull. TELL! HIM! THE! TRUTH! I will say though, for all they didn’t appear again after the arrival in Waterdeep, I’ve got a soft spot for the wonderful lady Scheska Jadefoot, as well as our loud-mouthed drow caravan scout and their surly dwarven co-worker. I am absolutely rooting for Xullzalle and Bhalrom to kiss.

Rizeth remains incredibly hot but you didn’t need me to tell you this. Bastard. Shen is also incredibly fun in his brat era. More Rizeth backstory reveal! Which also made me very sad. I do love these little windows we've been getting into his life "Before" and the ways it influences the man he is now.

And then, wow. Chapter 14 absolutely devastated me. The sequence where Shen recounts the change-dance floored me, and then it let me get up just long enough to knock me back down again. Like three separate times. I mean all of this as the highest possible compliment. Fucking hell.

“Is that allowed?” And she’d smiled, and taken his hands very gently, saying, “Of course it is, beloved. Would you like to dance it with me?” [...] “Will it hurt?” he’d whispered. “If it’s what you want, it will feel like joy.” [...] When it was over, he’d looked down at himself and something had welled up inside him, a rush of some great, overwhelming euphoria. His entire life opened up anew, and he felt for the first time how wonderful it was to be elven, to be drow, and have so many years ahead of him. This was Eilistraee’s miracle, and he would never need another.

I wept. Legitimately. The gentle understanding of that priestess. How happy and relieved Shen is to finally be himself! All that joy and hope for the future! But then his mother’s reaction came in with the steel chair. It was devastating in a different way, in just how true to life it felt, knowing that there are so many parents out there who react just the same, who make their kid’s happiness and journey of self-discovery all about themselves and how hurt or distraught or embarrassed THEY are, that poisonous sense of entitlement. You captured it so well in Shen’s mother.

All in all! Damn, it’s good to be back.

(Xullzalle and Bhalrom should absolutely kiss. in the world where Obedience has a thriving fandom, they are the runaway pairing with an outsize number of fics. to me. in my Mind)

Rizeth being too hot to be reasonable is a vital part of Obdience :p i've had a FANTASTIC time finally getting to post his backstory things. i've kept them secret so long and im very proud of myself but also NOW YOU ALL KNOW AHHH! the building blocks that make him 'him' are much more on display and it seems it's as satisfying for y'all to read it as it's been to write it

brat era Ashenivir is a DELIGHT to write. he's a menace and we (and Rizeth) love him for it.

Chapter Fourteen my BELOVED. i cannot tell you how much it's meant to see you and all the other people who've commented say how emotionally hard that chapter hit. as a trans author who was only a baby trans when making Shen, writing his story has kinda come alongside some of my own Life Things, so that part of him is very close to my heart.

The part you quoted especially just…like you wrote, the understanding and the relief and joy - and then his mother's slap down of it. 'true to life' is exactly how i wanted it to feel - because there is a place for trans stories where it's more vicious, but i really wanted that more…not insidious, but the emotional hurt that happens when someone makes it all about themselves, and how much damage that can do. she's never laid a finger on him, she's never done anything you'd call overt abuse, it's just the kind of selfishness that has devastating consequences for other people.

all that to say, thank you for weeping, and for reading, and for returning. i hope you enjoy the final few chapters <3

okay, so i've been doing some thinking. i've been scrolling through your blog and i stepped upon these "cheating on cove with Baxter and the other way around" scenarios. (i'm sorry, i wasn't able to read them, my heart couldn't take it ;-;) but!

what if mc was like, in a normal relationship with Baxter. you know, a couple, maybe married later and stuff, while of course still being besties with Cove. later mc and Baxter have a kid together, maybe still a small baby but! plot twist! Baxter gets into an accident or something and dies. (i'm sorry, he's my favourite man but i had to kill him for that scenario:'))

mc is completely devastated and also a little panicked, because what about the baby? and then Cove stepps in, deciding to help his best friend take care of the little one and basically becomes its father. i recently watched a video of a dog "helping" a cat take care of her kittens, and there you have it.

this one may be boring, so feel free to ignore, but i can't stop thinking about it.

which technically you haven't, since you've never dated before. but cove would go so far as to find out your favorite color, song, animal, food.. all over again, even though he has it memorized and knows your likes better than his own.

once cove is sure you're ready for this (after much talk between the two of you and even with your therapist that yes you've made enough progress and are emotionally ready for this) does he finally put a label on it

also if you don't want to give up your wedding ring from baxter, I think cove would even go so far as to suggest combining it with his.

okay now, for YOUR bands, I imagine they're either black or silver and yk those infinity(?) bands? that has the 2 types of metal or whatever

that's what cove would suggest doing. and if you are worried abt people asking why your bands are different, he'd get the same twisted band but silver with say a black diamond or smth. just smth to make it look like it's intentionally different colors but same design or smth

now for baxter's band... well if you didn't bury it with him, I imagine you'd give it to your child

another thing I think you could do w your wedding band as well, and give them both your bands to do whatever they want with. or if they don't want it of course you're not forcing them to keep it

even though they didn't get to know baxter, the way you and cove still cherish baxter's memory does help them feel something of a connection.

I also imagine baxter would take lots of photo n video w the kid, even though they're young n just a babe, theres so many videos of baxter looking n acting so loving w them

of course, if the kid doesn't feel that connected to baxter since they were too young to know or rmbr anything, and they don't feel anything much other than sympathy and the occasional sting when they see how much baxter loved them, you don't force it.

you both know that baxter was basically a stranger to them and even though they still respect baxter and he has a place in their heart, they don't feel like they're lacking anything.

cove happily listens to anything they have to say on how they feel abt baxter btw. he accepts any of their feelings, be it that they don't feel anything at all, sympathy for others, or they feel sad abt losing him.

if they do say smth like how even though it's unfortunate and they feel bad for everyone who mourns baxter (for example/especially you), they see cove as their dad and don't feel like they're missing anything and they're happy to have cove for their dad.

ofc he cries n hugs them n tells them he loves em and he's happy n he comforts them if needed of course

I also think cove is very scared abt being a father

especially in this way... even if the kiddo doesn't remember anything, or it's hazy at best, he worries about replacing baxter.

baxter was always much more mature, at least it seemed that way most times. cove just worries about if he has the backbone and the ability to parent the child well and be someone they can look up to and/or appreciate for being a good father

if they do it before you start dating, I imagine it's one of the catalyst that cause you to talk abt your feelings for each other. or if it's in the early stage..

cove prbly freezes and runs away to the other room n freaks out, definitely cries. if you don't talk to him like right after he calls his dad n cries n shares his worries n fear

I am autistic high functioning one but it still hard to do things that you don't understand and you have to have yours comer plushy

I have one and even though I am in my Earl 20's I am crying like a baby over my plushy I had snic I was a kid it a cute Pokemon one and it a cute little mew doll and my rabbit and stuff dog. But the got torn up by my sister dog and they are trying to fix it

What would the link boy do

I know sage would try a fix it with touch stuff that the reader would like. Also I just know the gop that is on the itam look so soft and like slim I would beIN playing with it for so long

So my question is how would the boys fix it or think of the reade beIN so over stimulated and can't stop crying and can't cop with out her stuff plushies and would they make a smiler one until the fix it

I know four would quickly get the plushy fix and time with the song of time

And fd is a god he can use powers but the others I am confused on

Hello 🪷anon! Don't worry, I know who you are! Your request is currently a work in progress! You totally can be 🪷anon!

I'm so sorry about what happened to your plushy. I totally understand as I'm nineteen, almost twenty, and have my own comfort plush. I know I would be absolutely devastated if anything happened to her (Her name is Princess and she's a pink poodle :)). I can't imagine what it would be like for someone with Autism. I'm not nearly as educated on the spectrum or what it entails, but I know a disturbance like that can be especially hard. (Please take no offence to what I'm saying, I'm trying not to make this sound as bad as its coming out.)

Now, Time, contrary to how he looks, does know how to sew. He's not exceptional at it, but it's certainly passible. Sure, it's a little wonky, maybe crooked, but it's evident that he put a lot of effort into it. While it's a work in progress however, or after the initial incident, he remains a steady rock for you! If your okay with physical touch during this time, he's holding you to his chest and humming a soft tune under his breath while gently rocking back and forth. If not, he's counting breaths in front of you, tapping off his fingers to help you regulate.

Twilight cannot sew. Point, blank, period. His hands are too clumsy and his movements too rough for the thin, fragile string. However, he knows people who can. If your near Ordon, he's asking Ilia or Uli. If not, he'll take it to a tailor in the nearby village. If your not near a village, he's sucking up his ego and asking Legend. His pelt is always available if you need it, but so are his arms. Lemme tell you, he gives the best hugs. If you don't wanna hug him, that's fine, maybe Wolfie will make you feel better? If you don't want any contact, that's just as okay! Wolfie with sit with you until you feel better!

Sky is tricky because while he can play the harp/lyra/whatever that thing is, I can't say I see him being able to sew. His hands are too used to the thick sturdiness of wood or the gentle plucking of the strings. The repetitive motions confuse him and he just knots the string over and over again. He doesn't wait to ask Legend or Time however, and he'll even use tears to get what he wants. Like Twilight, his sail cloth is always available to you, and he also gives pretty good hugs. If you want your space, he's pulling out his latest project and working on it beside you, hoping the repetitive noises and motions help you ground yourself.

Now, Wars can't sew well either. But he can. He's not going to put your biggest comfort item at risk for that. He's not sucking up to Legend however. No, he'll instead hand over the needed dough to the nearest Tailor or, hell, even Time to get it done as quickly as possible. His scarf is also always available. It's a good way to ground yourself as he'll sit with one end, wrapping and intertwining it around his fingers and urging you to follow.

Legend, my lovely little rat, is the best at sewing hands down. He'll remain by your side, letting you take whatever comfort needed (Physical or otherwise), while he sews your comfort item back to its rightful state. He won't shoot any quips, nor even have a harsh tone with you and anyone who dares to even try and tease you are gifted with a dirty glare.

Wild cannot sew. Period. He'll also bribe Legend with food of some sort or some ancient tech to do it for him while keeping you distracted with food prep. You don't even have to do anything, but sit there and look pretty. If you want physical comfort, sucks for the rest of the chain because they are now on their own for dinner as you become priority number one.

Hyrule can sew! With resources as scarce as they are in his world, he had to learn to preserve what he had. Which included repairing his tunics, pants, boots, etc., etc.. So, he jumps at the opportunity to fix your comfort item. It's done pretty well too! Now, Hyrule probably uses some sort of Fairy magic to calm you, through touch or otherwise, and also hums to keep you grounded.

Four can also sew! He'd fix it up right away! In fact, he'd probably split to speed up the process. One of the colors, probably Vio, would sew the item easily and quickly while the others worked on comforting you. Cuddles? Done. You wanna hear them sing? Give them a song, darling. You just want your space to process your emotions? They're steering the others away. And then, when they combine to give you back the object, Four doesn't leave until he's certain your doing okay again. :)

Wind (This is entirely platonic) cannot sew. But, he's the youngest, so he can use puppy dog eyes and get Legend or Hyrule or Time to bend to his will and do it for him. He is then either distracting you with a game or adventure or small hike, or sitting with you and telling you all sorts of stories about his journey as a pirate.

Sage can sew! He learned after his original Champion's tunic had taken one too many hits and he refused to ask Natura (His Zelda) to fix it, or use the one she was dead set on him using. Of course, he could also use his hand to help, using Recall if the incident is recent enough. If it's not, he's more than happy to fix it himself. He's offering you his hand to take should you want it, using it to pull you into his lap if that's acceptable in the situation. If not, he's sitting with you. He's all too aware of what's it's like to be so...overstimulated, so he's not asking anything. Not humming or singing. Just sitting and acting like an anchor for you.

Fierce Deity can't sew. He can use powers to an extent, but he mostly has to use his scary dog privileges to get a tailor to fix it. He's built like a tank and has a core like a furnace though, so he's perfect for cuddles. If you wanna sob into his chest, he won't do anything but shield you from the view of others. He's another one to offer silent comfort rather than any form of conversation.

Bonus! First can sew! Not badly, nor too well, but it's average. He's humming lowly while fixing the object before giving it to you. He's brushing your knuckles before pressing a kiss to them, tapping your breaths along each bump when he pulls away. His scarf is also available to you. Whatever you need, darling.
