me when critics like the thing i like: clearly i have a refined and intellectual taste, i have known the epitome of art
me when critics hate the thing i like: these fools... these foul beasts masquerading as men... these unintelligent and sad individuals are not capable of understanding the material as i have.

CTJL 2021: FINALE, PART I
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA
2021! I have become aware that it is now 2023, yes, thank you. I promise I am sufficiently ashamed of myself. But not a lot happens in my game these days, which means big things need to be celebrated bigger than usual... which, if you’re me, means you end up confusing your ambitions with your capabilities and end up squashed and discouraged beneath the weight of all the visions you couldn’t achieve, with several painful WIPs relegated to your blackest, backest project folders to show for it.
Fun!
Story-related stuff below the cut, if you’re into that.
Despite missing the opening show in Rio de Janeiro, the little Lowmax team managed to end the 2021 season with two riders on the podium! (Nobody was as shocked as I was) Archie & Speakeasy were awarded champion of the 1.30m class and second place overall, while Agatha & Poquelin won the 1.50m class and were hot on their heels in third place overall. Considering they were pipped by Elizabeth Howell, the face of the tour and arguably, the current face of show jumping itself, being the first losers wasn’t too tough! Archie (who was almost as tall as Liz while she stood atop the towering first place position, much to the amusement of the press) was ever the professional- and frankly, ever himself- graciously shaking Liz’ hand and offering sincere congratulations, as well as the promise of a celebratory drink at the gala later on. Anyone who can manage to perform so well so consistently is deserving of as much in his book, but the fact Elizabeth (because you know he’s calling her ‘Elizabeth’ and not ‘Liz’) is managing it while still so young is rather impressive. As for Agatha...
There would be those who’d say she was jealous. But there are those who say a lot of things about Agatha. (”She looks like a hair yanker.”) (”Speaking to her is like a near-death experience.”) (”She’d eat him alive.”) (”I’d never want to meet her.”) (”Officially terrifying.”) (”Her favourite food is probably crisp charcoal.”) (...) In truth, yes: being beaten by someone younger than her wasn’t exactly thrilling, and being beaten by Archie again was adding insult to injury (even if it had privately been expected) But Agatha’s comparatively subdued demeanour had little to do with envy, and everything to do with her self-expectations. Self-expectations, and a hollow sort of feeling where there should have been excitement.

Big thanks to @calveroterranorasj for collaborating with me, and for allowing me to participate in the CTJL in the first place! I genuinely had a blast travelling the globe with the team and rubbing shoulders with the different characters out in the world.
Fun bit of trivia for you: all those things ‘said’ about Agatha are all real things said at some point by my so-called friends. I’d be offended if I didn’t find them so amusing. The charcoal one in particular- courtesy of @kullabergs, who has a unique talent for insulting Agatha- has a permanent place in my head. Makes me smile every time. Ridiculous. I can’t even be mad about it.
Finally, I’m just going to say before anyone else asks: contrary to popular belief (the popular belief being that held by 3 out of the 4 people who’ve seen these photographs) Archie is not, in fact, proposing marriage to the 2021 CTJL Champion, Elizabeth Howell.
IT’S A GENTEEL HANDSHAKE, GUYS.
Honestly. 🙄

didn't get into it last night in my mouthwashing mental breakdown but i also think "refusal to look" is an important motif with relation to themes of power and control with the scene in the med bay where half the room is whited out being the foremost example. and that the "refusal to look" as a form of control being in conflict with "seeing" as a source of power and heirarchy is intentional and an external expression of the internal struggle that's occuring

stormie
four years ago I did a roleplay where my rat oc amalthea befriended a horse. the horse protected her from predators, it was really fun! and later I also got to roleplay as the horse's filly, which is the character here. I remembered that our horse characters were both white & gray & inverts of each other, but I forgot which one was gray with a white mane & which one was white with a gray mane..
several times I tried to contact the other roleplayer about this, but they never replied. maybe they don't check their messages anymore. I really wantex to get stormie on artfight this year so I ended up making two versions of her. I wish we coul continue the roleplay, but knowing it's been 4 years noe I wonder if they even remember.. it's sad to me how I always seem to be more invested in roleplays & continuing them than everyone else I roleplayed with, and I remember them for years if not forever while they forget somrtimes only after a few months..
it hurts to be the only one who cares! anyway, I think amalthea would've helped look after stormie just as stormie's mother helped look after amalthea's own pups :) I should draw amalthea & stormie together some time, it'd be so cute!! I probably won't do it for some months at least though..
rn I'm really busy trying to make drawings of my characters that were supposed to be on my artfight roster this year but I haven't drawn yet/really need to redraw or redesign, and after artfight is over I might takr a break from drawing (won't stop posting art though, this artfight prep has given me a buffer), & when my break is over I think I'm gonna prioritize primeval age stuff for a little longer. & by then I might've forgot about this idea.. eh, it'll probably come bsck to me one day!

Okay guys I am thinking about Equus again and I really really really really wanna direct it at my school SO bad (and I probably could! I would just need to take directing and AD a mainstage show, both of which I plan on doing asap, and then ask our director)
I would do it in the round because a) I love things in the round, b) it’s low key already in the round, at least in the book version of the script, and c) it makes sense for the story and adds to it
Also all the characters can be genderbent (other than Frank and Dora, but that’s just bc they need to be straight, so technically you could swap them so long as it’s both) and making Alan a girl actually adds a whole OTHER layer to everything that I think would be so so fun to play with
I don’t really know what I’d do staging wise for the end of act one, bc it’s not like I’m about to have an actor fully naked in front of the audience (or me lol), but there’s lots of options since the main thing is less nudity and more vulnerability (although also with Dysart’s whole Normal and plastic monologue might make that a bit complicated, so I’ll have to think about that)
Don’t even get me STARTED on the costumes!!! The horse masks would go SO hard but then also with Frank and Dora and Heather and Jill and all the other characters coming in and out except for Dysart and Alan you could do SUCH fun stuff with that!!!
#I have been mentally ill about this play since I read it junior year of high school#equus#equus play#peter schaffer

Dysart: And he? What does he say?
Alan Strang: "Mine. You're mine. I am yours, and you are mine. I see you. I see you always. Everywhere. Forever. Kiss anyone, and I will see. Lie with anyone, and I will see. And you will fail, Alan. Forever and ever you will fail. You will see me, and you will fail. The Lord thy God is a jealous God."

I rejoined Howrse because I had nothing better to do and they have cute horses, but it's so clear that it's really just a cash-cow nowadays. It's definitely pay to win and almost pay to play.
Also the app stole 28k equus from me and now I'm down to only 2k so I'm a bit upset at the game :P
#windy wrambles#howrse#I had like 28k and sold 30 polo wraps#and then the next time I opened the app (no other interactions inbetween) I only had 2k#I am very confused and very disappointed#but also not because like yeah it's just a cash cow and they don't really care about the user experience#I base this soley on the fact that you need to have accounts on 3 other sites to get access to gameplay which uh yeah#they apparently removed the forum and moved it to discord??? Discord does NOT fill the same function as a forum#cheaper to moderate I guess#also you needed to have facebook to get all the spins you could (unless of course you paid for them) like ???#I refuse to get facebook that place sucks#anyway they have cute horses so I'm gonna collect those#even if they keep stealing my equus to stop me from it *grumbles*#the interface on the app is so ??? as well#very hard to navigate but maybe that's just because I'm used to browsers and not apps

telling an interesting? personal story to see what i could get
so when I was younger my mom had a blueberry and raspberry bush in the backyards. They weren’t really ‘bushes’ but more of just scraggly plants that occasionally produced fruit. For some reason, we always had these sponges in their pots, a red sponge in the raspberry pot and a yellow one in the blueberry pot. I asked my mom about it recently and she doesn’t remember them at all. But anyways, when I was younger I really liked the fruits they produced. But one time the blueberry bush didn’t have any fully ripe blueberries so i just picked off a few green ones and ate them. Time goes on and i continue to eat the green ones, eventually more so than the actually fresh ones.
flash forward to now where I find out that green blueberries contain certain chemicals that are actually pretty poisonous. So younger me just built up an immunity to them all to eat sour crunchy berries. Good times

I was rereading Newton’s debut into the topolino comics, and this piece was inspired by this opening part of the story:
I just wanted Gyro to wish Newton “Good luck in school today!” in front of his nephew. I ask for so little…
He’s ready for his first day at his new school :’)
#my art#sorry I was at work so I couldn’t make this addition earlier#in the actual story Newton rushes out the door before Gyro can give him breakfast ffddf#and when Newton leaves with HDL Gyro just says he’s waay to energetic#I WANTED MORE TOPOLINO so let me fix this moment for me myself and I#also yes this is the scanlation Equus made awhile back ((the main reason why I even care about Gyro and Newton))

Animal of the Day!
Somali Wild Ass (Equus africanus somaliensis)
(Photo from San Diego Zoo)
Conservation Status- Critically Endangered
Habitat- Somalia, Somaliland; Eritrea; Ethiopia
Size (Weight/Length)- 270 kg; 1.5 m tall
Diet- Grasses; Bark; Roots; Leaves
Cool Facts- Numbering less than 1,000 individuals, the Somali wild ass is a subspecies of the African wild ass. Herds change in size depending on the amount of rain for that year. Stallions generally take care of a dozen or so mares throughout their territory, but large gatherings of mares can occur when rain and food is plentiful. Other males are welcome to enter the stallion’s territory, as long as they only graze and show no interest in gaining a mate. Mares are pregnant for about a year and the foal stays with their parent herd for several years before branching out. Somali wild ass are hunted for medicinal purposes and for acting as competition for livestock. Luckily, zoos around the world are working towards breeding Somali wild ass and releasing them back into the wild.
Rating- 12/10 (Close relatives to zebras.)

Proud mom and her baby - Wild Horses by Georgie Alexon Via Flickr: I have had the pleasure to see the wild horse mares with their baby's the last few years. This was the first time I found this particular pack of horses with the white mare who I had heard so much about. This photo was taken in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains west of Sundre Alberta, Canada. DNA studies conducted by both the University of Calgary and University of Texas show that our Alberta wild horses are indeed genetically unique. They have DNA related to the draft horse, Indigenous ponies and the original Spanish horse. -Equus ferus
