A little bit of celebratory light in the current political climate: I'm working with a local endocrinologist who is versed in gender-affirming care as well as my local LGBTQ+ resource organization to start a quarterly pride clinic that I'm going to run with and staff with the aforementioned endocrinologist. I don't know yet how successful it will be, but we're in a really under-served area and a lot of the local federally qualified health centers are pulling back their gender affirming care offerings due to the recent federal policies so that they can retain their funding, which after speaking to my residency program directer he seems to believe is unlikely to affect us. So I'm going to be working with our program attendings and this endocrinologist to help refer more queer and especially trans patients to myself and one of my seniors who is also really involved in LGBTQ+ health goals for gender-affirming care.

The clinic itself is only going to be quarterly at this time (hopefully monthly in the future) due to the limitations of patient panel sizes and also residency scheduling, but we're hoping that we can also follow these patients in our actual primary clinic, since it will all be in the same building and part of the same system, and the endocrinologist has said she is willing to co-precept these patients (aka. have us forward her the notes and look over them to make sure the care plans are copacetic, as well as get curbsided by us when needed) when we work on hormone therapy in the primary care clinic. I think the main challenge is going to be 1) making sure we have the resources and access to a good multidisciplinary team (main points are mental health resources (gonna ask one of the psych program attendings, he is both openly queer and invested) and infectious disease specialist options that aren't going to result in bad experiences for the patients that we refer that way) and 2) making sure we have appropriate follow-up for patients, which I think on my end is just going to mean me telling our clinic coordinator, "Hey, if it's for this patient panel specifically, you can book me an extra patient per half-day for continuity."

We're also going to be doing internal-ish referral advertising through the LGBTQ+ org, as well as training through the organization and also just through research done by myself and my senior for our co-residents for things like cancer screening guidelines adjusted for risk factors we see in queer people (anal paps, three-site testing, when to screen for breast cancer in trans women, etc, etc). Waiting on my program director to talk to our clinic coordinator to see if there's any way for people to self-refer straight to the pride clinic (probably insurance-dependent) but otherwise it's just...happening.

I think my main wish is that I had more days to directly work with this endocrinology attending to pick her brain. She said she's game for any [redacted weekday] for the clinic once we get things going and I'm on my endocrinology rotation, but I'm mostly working with another endo and only see her twice this month due to her work schedule. She's a great teacher and next time I see her this month I'm going to see if she has time to give me a crash-course on HRT management that will help me synthesize the gender dysphoria treatment clinical practice guidelines I'm reading through from the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism. My PD actually specifically referred a trans patient to us to see that day because he knows I really want more experience with this (and, y'know, she's a great endo doc) so that will be the perfect opportunity.

Anyway! It's a great time to be working on offering more medical resources to LGBTQ patients.

Soo, remember in Glorious Masquerade, when Malleus came up with the story that the cause of the Crimson Lotus was unknown, and Rollo was actually trying to save everyone alongside the NRC students?

What if that's another bit of foreshadowing for the end of Book 7?

Briar Valley is in a really precarious position now, still recovering from the Silver Owls, with the Senate mostly taking over while Maleficia grieves, so Malleus overblotting is just another blow to the fae, even if students like Leona, Kalim, Vil and Idia manage to advocate on his behalf.

So why not spin the tale of how there was an unnamed threat on the island that was so Dire (pun intended for Crowley) and all-encompassing that Malleus had to go all out?

To avoid collateral damage and prevent the issue from reaching the rest of the globe, he had no choice but to use his UM to cover the whole island, keeping everyone safe in a peaceful slumber while the threat was dealt with. Luckily, STYX coordinated efforts with the rest of Briar Valley and they managed to subdue the threat both inside and outside the barrier, and everyone is safe now!

That way, the world can see Malleus not as an uncontrollable monster, but as a fierce protector who might go a bit overboard, but means well (also he's a dragon and his remaining family was on the island, so his protectiveness is understandable). Therefore, it's best to befriend the fae and Briar Valley than make enemies out of them!

The only problem is the rest of the student body and staff that saw the overblot at Lillia's farewell party, but I'm pretty sure STYX's Lethe program is back on to deal with the mobs, while the rest of the cast can be sworn to secrecy in exchange for having Malleus owe them a favour (they can use Azul's UM for the NDA).

As for the problem, NRC has been dealing with overblots at least once a month, not to mention the STYX invasion, and the Phantom Dwarves back in the mines, and how Book 7 might introduce the true mastermind and that's what we have to deal with in Book 8... They just have to pick ONE of the options above.

As a sidenote, having Sunset Savanna become Briar Valley's fiercest allies because Leona told his brother that Malleus is his friend would be so funny. Falena sees his depressed brother going to the trouble of making a whole Power Point presentation to convince the council on the benefits of allying to Briar Valley, all to save a school friend, and just decides that Malleus Draconia will have his unending support. Kifaji too.

(Leona has been ignored and belittled so many times that he prepared for the worst and made a whole slide presentation in hopes of defending his point well enough. Shoud've just led with "Malleus Draconia is a friend of mine who just went through a very traumatic experience and I want to help him" Kifaji and Falena would accept in a heartbeat).

Cheka: Unca, what are you doing in the middle of the night?

Leona: I'm just practicing, no one (my dormmates aside) ever likes my ideas and I have to make sure this works...

Cheka: Why?

Leona: Well you see... [starts explaining the inportance of supporting Briar Valley at theur moment of need and the benefits an alliance may bring to the table] ... also the Lizard would love if-

Cheka: Why do you keep calling Malleus Draconia "Lizard"? Is he your friend? Do you want to help him?

Leona, sighing: Yeah kiddo, he is my friend. He's been going though some tough times, almost lost his father and brother, and as much as we butt heads, well, no one deserves that...

Cheka: So why don't you just say that he's your friend and you wanna help him instead of talking about those "tweatwies"?

Leona: First of all, it's "treaties", and second, well, Briar Valley is in trouble, and helping them might get us in trouble too. Also I'm just the accursed second prince, people never listen to me, I need to back up my proposal with facts.

*random noise that sounds like a mix between a growl and a sob (Falena and Kifaji are eavesdropping lol)*

Leona: What's that?!

Cheka, panicking: Probably the wind....

Leona, finishing the presentation: And that's my proposal, any questions?

Random councilman: Well I-

Kijaji, smiling menacingly: I think it's a splendid idea, Leona. Briar Valley has been a longtime friend of ours, so it's only right that we help them in their time of need.

Falena, also smiling menacingly: Agreed! I'm so proud of you, my brother!

Leona: Wait, seriously!?

Falena's wife, smiling and sharpening a knife while subtly observing the other councilmen, marking targets: Of course, Leona! You have a sharp mind and this is a good plan. Briar Valley will have Sunset Savanna's full support for the coming criais, isn't that right, councillors?

At about 6:30 this morning I Had A Thought. I am not going to reread this before I post it so I hope it makes sense.

So, we’ve all kind of agreed that superheroes would be celebrities, right? And from my understanding people on the Internet tend to freak out when they see celebrities just out and about, living normal lives.

I propose that there are social media accounts entirely dedicated to sightings of particular superheroes. Like, you send in a photo or an encounter with that superhero and they post/reblog/talk about it, whatever.

(Because DC —and specifically the Batfamily— is my current hyperfixation, I’m imagining it being DC superheroes, but this probably works for Marvel too.)

And the amount of these accounts vary based on the amount of superheroes in that city/area and their popularity, right? So there’s like a hundred accounts with only slight variations for Metropolis all focused on Superman, because he’s Their Only Superhero and they love him for that (usually).

I imagine that these guys are the weirdos of social media, and get made fun of a lot. Nobody really thinks that these sightings are real.

However. There is a guy who canonically stalked his city’s superheroes for most of his life.

Tim definitely had one of these accounts and posted pictures of the Bats, like all the time. And it was when one of these pictures ended up on the news that people outside of these specific communities discovers that these exist and some of them are genuinely accurate about sightings.

They explode in popularity. There are hundreds of these accounts now, all about tracking their city’s superheroes (and occasionally villains).

There are, however, always those that are deemed more reliable. BatWatch has long gone inactive, but there are others like it, and the really good ones can make good money off it, but they’re usually just hobbyists and superfans.

Because he’s my favourite, I’m going to take this opportunity to talk about Red Hood. He was, during his stint as a villain, Gotham’s favourite villain. He doesn’t do the huge schemes designed to kill the whole city to get the Bats’ attention, and he genuinely improves the city and protects the common people, so people generally like him. There’s like a hundred dedicated to his activity, both criminal and not.

There is, like with every other superhero watch, a most reliable one. It’s run by about half an apartment building down in the Narrows, and they always seem to know everything about Red Hood before anybody else.

They call themselves TheNeighborHoodWatch.

the thing about me is that the process of waiting for a new ep is relatively new for me... i watched the pilot when it came out like everyone else did but at the time i was too focused on a different show to really care (one, which is funny, since its an extremely similar show conceptually) (i highly recommend it i was obsessed w it for well over a year and thats like. genuinely some sort of record for me. and when i say the shows are similar i mean soooo similar. not enough that they fill the same spot in my heart but like. if you watch it ull see what i mean heart emoji). i was around when the teaser came out but i wasnt super invested at the time. it was only like 2 months ago that i decided to get high and watch the show and i was like. woah. woah wait this show fucks

ive liked shows n stuff that were ongoing so its not like im unfamiliar w that concept but i feel like every show and its community and its team has a different feeling and cycles to new parts of it coming out. and bc ive never seen how that works for this show im very excited to find out... i find older posts abt teasers and images from episodes and the site and whatnot and i imagine ill be weird and very not normal about it! because that tends to be my response to those sorts of things

I messed up the dates hahaha. I posted the 19 one on 20 because I stayed up after midnight somehow (barely), so going forward like that, lol. Because this one definitely is for 21th as I will not have time to breath let alone write tomorrow. Finished the angsty smut, though, so I’m glad! It turned out alright, though not sure about the ending. It doesn’t really matter anyway, because it truly was just written because a song got me bad and I needed to write something for it.

Do y’all have any similar experience ever? It’s very fun in a sense.

Concept I've suddnely become very passionate about:

A youtube video set in the stargate universe about the mysterious cult of Setesh. We know that this cult is pretty common knowledge (at least in the area of washington where they opperated), so I think it'd be cool to make one of those youtube documentary videos that you'd typically find about Waco, Heavens Gate, Jonestown, etc... Especially since in universe I imagine it'd be pretty suspicious for a well known cult being pursued by the ATF to just suddenly Vanish. I think theres a rich fiction you could extrapolate from these events, and it'd be the perfect setup for a little unfiction storytelling

Something underrated about game development is the naming conventions of quests. Like I frankly adore when devs name their quests after real-life songs. It's something that's so steeped in the culture that either produced the game or localized it and it's also such a nice way to tease to an audience what the quest will be about

By nature, you likely won't recognize every song reference or how it contributes to the story of a quest. But if you recognize the song? It tells you everything. And then you can speculate about how everything will happen. I just think it's such a neat thing that people truly overlook sometimes.
