Yeah, I stand by this post. I do want to add something about the Katara and Aang romance (no offense intended to people who like the ship, this is just my personal read): one thing that's interesting about Aang is he's not a conventional male love interest. He's not a badass -- I mean, he's powerful, but he's not...a jerk? He's not a conventional Action Dude. And this is a type that we don't see presented as sexually attractive very often. (Whereas eg with Jet, sure, everyone knows how to make a Bad Boy sexy, right?)

And one imagines that the writers wouldn't personally be attracted to someone like Aang (I mean, even when they were an age where that wouldn't be bizarre/creepy, or an age-appropriate version of Aang's character.) So that + not having a lot of models for Sexy Happy Go Lucky Pacifist Monk = not really being sure how to show Aang as being attractive. Perhaps.

Which is kind of hilarious. Of course people like Aang can be super attractive. He's fun. He's lighthearted. He's emotionally intelligent. He has got the sort of tragic backstory that would make every angst writer on the planet go feral if he actually expressed distress about it more often. (Not that I think it's a problem he doesn't. I'm on board with a great deal of equanimity and the intentional cultivation of joy being part of his culture and personal character.) So at least in theory he should have a great deal of Poor Little Meow Meow appeal. And he's deeply principled, which is hot: at first his principles get expressed more in a typically airbender going at things sideways, but when he learns to earthbend he also learns to stand his ground, and it's not like he didn't have principles at the beginning, he just didn't tend to express them in the fight-y way that Katara expresses hers, which can work well attraction wise in an opposites attract way. Plus, he's willing to self sacrifice to protect others (getting captured early in the first season...and then slipping off once the village was no longer in immediate danger, very airbender-y) which is pretty sexy if I do say so myself.

Anyways. I do think that there's a lot about Aang that can be seen as very attractive, and I think there's a lot of reasons Katara in particular would be attracted to him, and as far as I can tell Kataang shippers like the ship in spite of the way the show's written, not because of it, because I'm sorry I don't see her actually being shown as finding him attractive. (We do see the opposite! There's a very classic glamor shot of Katara that is showing how Aang sees her in the fortune teller episode, and we see Aang expressing romantic interest in Katara several times, and her rejecting his advances multiple times, and the place where she changes her mind is as far as I can tell not shown. And I wish it was! I want the romance to be one I find compelling. I think the potential is there in both characters. I don't think it's shown in the actual writing of the actual show.)

It’s not so much that Avatar: The Last Airbender doesn’t have any toxic masculinity at all. Zuko spends most of the show expressing no emotions except for anger, which is very much toxic masculinity (he doesn’t express that anger towards women, which is good, but that doesn’t have to be there for it to be toxic masculinity) and obvs Sokka starts out with some questionable attitudes towards women. But both things are shown as being character flaws in the show, and they’re flaws that they both grow out of. In fact, the main sign that Zuko’s turn is good for him, is that he loses his anger (and then he can’t figure out to firebend without anger, but they get that sorted out.) And clearly Sokka figures out how to see Suki as both a warrior and a girl. Sokka gives Aang some bad dating advice in the fortune teller episode back in Season 1 (he tells him to act like he doesn’t care about the girl he’s interested in), but I think it’s meant to be seen as bad dating advice. One of the strengths of Avatar: The Last Airbender is how all of the characters have flaws, and the there is this constant back and forth of accept who you are and focus on working with what you’ve got, but also sometimes you just have to change and grow in order to do what has to be done, and just like Zuko’s journey from loyal son of the empire to anti-imperialist is part of that, so is Zuko’s journey to not being ruled by anger and Sokka’s journey to, well, just generally be more relaxed about gender roles I guess. There’s a thing where Katara is the default “mom” of the group and whenever she has a conflict with Toph the boys stay out of it, and it would be nice if we’d seen some personal growth around that. Or around Aang figuring out that if he wants Katara to be his girlfriend then maybe he should figure out what she finds attractive and you know do that rather than complain about how they’re not a couple yet (I am really not happy with how the romance played out  in season 3, it comes across as the “dude gets the girl because he saved the world” trope, like she’s a trophy or something.) (It’s so frustrating because you know the writers are capable of showing sexual/romantic tension since they have that with Katara and other male characters several times, and they’re capable of showing male characters looking attractive, and they more or less never choose to do that for Aang from Katara’s viewpoint; maybe during the Footloose episode when they’re dancing but that’s it.) But yeah, there’s a lot of good in the way masculinity is presented in the ATLA, from a hero who’s about as far away from conventional action guy as it’s possible to get, to the way other characters overcome their initial sexism or toxic masculinity. And then there’s Legend of Korra, which goes even further with exploring different ways that masculinity can express itself and male vulnerability and so on. Lin Beifong going to stop the airships while Tenzin stays with his family, because it doesn’t matter that she’s a woman and he’s a man, what matters is that she’s a fighter and he (though also a fighter) has kids who need their dad. Mako having his romantic options influenced by what’s going to help him and his brother survive financially. Male characters who are disciplined or spontaneous, fighters or artists, hard working or fun loving, intelligent and creative, ambitious, supportive, or downright flaky. Male characters with nuance and many facets. All sorts of male characters.

What happens? A certain ghosty someone (Antinous) spends the whole day trying to strangle both Odysseus and Telemachus (spoiler: he can't), missing Hermes' arrival to Ithaca like a loser ☆ﾟ⁠.⁠*⁠･⁠｡ﾟ

Hermes bringing a hoard of souls to the underworld: let's see... One, two, three, four... ten......... nah I'm too lazy to do that, bye idiots *flies away*

Now we have Antinous, stuck in the mortal plane where no one can see him, having to watch the happy and thriving family, annoyed, jealous, and alone. Like he deserves tbh

And since I was leaning into comedy in the beginning, Telemachus starting to hear (and later even see; idk maybe Hermes' heritage activated or smth) him is a source of all kinds of moments where he has to act like ✨ everything is fine ✨ while there's an angry dude screaming in his ear "PAY ATTENTION TO ME"

If we sprinkle it with sad vibes then Antinous is pestering Telemachus for two reasons:

he hates him and has nothing better to do anyway

it's the closest thing to human interaction he has now lol

Basically talking to (read: pissing off) Telemachus is the only entertainment, and as time passes he just becomes something of a voice of conscience but diametrically opposed, and by that I mean:

"Who does this prick think he is?! Kick his ass Tele KICK HIS ASS"

"Wow, loser (Peisistratus probably idk) actually likes you, what a moron. You too btw"

Probably the first thing Telemachus sees in the morning too,, poor boy; maybe Antinous even tries to trip him up from time to time (they can't touch each other but small things like these work), invades his personal space, swipes off random objects from their designated surfaces, talks shit during family dinners (Telemachus actually thinks some of it is funny but he won't say that out loud, nuh uh) Penelope and Odysseus are a bit concerned about the strange expressions he makes XD

That dynamic goes on until the moment Antinous says a particularly foul joke and Telemachus slaps him (not really hoping for anything since every time he tried his hand just went through); the hit lands, both are like wtf just happened??? That puts an end to random chaos because (1) Telemachus is older now and will/can beat the shit out of him (2) Antinous just doesn't find the same satisfaction in annoying the prince like before, for some reason

So they just....... come to accept the situation and stick together like the weirdest pair of mismatched socks. END

(one more crumb of comedy material: Antinous now drops random objects on people's heads when they disrespect Telemachus or some similar thing)

That's it! There's one important thing I wanna say tho,, what I wrote is just my vision, if you had something else in mind and it doesn't align with this don't worry too much!! I want to know your ideas as well, and honestly, there wasn't a lot of thought put in cooking up an actual plot on my side; write whatever you feel like writing, I'm already happy those sketches inspired somebody X)

• I adore Molotov the bear from Cinna (Cinnamas) 's fic, With a Little Help From My Friends. Therefore, the bear here is also Molotov, but he has his family also working on the show. It's Molotov, his brother Machete, and his sister Morningstar.

• Chris is about to start the wedding dress obstacle course when he sees Noah and Eva playing rock-paper-scissors, "What are you two doing?"

Noah: "Seeing who has to be the bride and wear the dress."

Chris: "But Eva's the bride?"

Eva: "Nope. Noah just lost. He's the bride."

Chris: "But that's not how....you know what whatever. Okay, Noah, our beautiful bride, join the others and grab a blindfold!"

• Noah lost on purpose because he knows Eva isn't fully comfortable nor confident in dresses.

• Alejandro fell because he was so distracted by Noah in the wedding dress, and Izzy knew that, so she purposefully made them lose balance.

• Noah is the one who kind of kickstarted Harold's elimination. He and Izzy noticed Alejandro's attention was on Team Victory, and they also noticed how distracted Harold was by Alejandro flirting with Leshawana, so they made an educated guess who the next target was. Noah made a passing comment on the cultural insensitivity Chris was promoting knowing how Harold would react.

• And of course, Harold reacted as he and Izzy predicted. Thus making the ginger more susceptible to Alejandro's manipulations.

• Eva is the one who overheard DJ freaking out about being cursed on the plane and how it's brought him bad luck. She doesn't believe in curses and fully thinks DJ is making this stuff happen because of how he lost his confidence and how jumpy his is. She also thinks he believes in the curse so wholeheartedly because he wants to go back home to his Momma.

• She talks with Izzy and Noah about sending the poor boy home, and the two agree. So Izzy makes sure to talk about how a lot of her family has been cursed and how it led to a lot of problems and/or deaths. Noah spoke more about his culture, which was great because it seemed nonchalant when everyone figured he would scoff or roll his eyes at the talk of curses. Courtney was the one who pointed out his "out of character" non response.

• So he got to talk about his culture and how they view curses. It was honestly kind of fun to tell everyone about himself a bit, considering he's a pretty private person. He even spoke about how his sister's Naomi, Nisha, and Nadia were superstitious. Of course, he didn't make fun of them for their superstitions. He may not fully believe in them, but he would never make fun of them. It's all about respect.

• All the curse talk definitely got to DJ, and DJ does end up going home in Paris since he asks Lindsay what could make him lose. Lindsay was planning to lose so she could go shopping, but seeing how exhausted and scared DJ was, she agreed to help him lose. Plus, she spoke with Noah during one of their "judging sessions" (where they shit talk people's choices, Lindsay with fashion and Noah with everything else), and he also seemed worried about DJ.

• That's how she knew it was serious when even Noah was worried.

• Team E-Scope made a confessional right after the elimination where they apologized to DJ, but told him he needed to get out of the competition for his mental health. They had seriously been worried about the dude. Of course, DJ had no hard feelings. They helped him get home.

• Alejandro walked into one of the statue heads in Rapa Nui and broke one of his eggs because he saw Noah in just his sweater vest. JUST HIS SWEATER VEST HOW WAS HE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE DISTRACTED BY THAT!?

• Noah was in only the sweater vest because he was making a sling out of his compression shirt and button-up. He made one for Eva out of her sweater, and Izzy made one from the wrap she used as a skirt. She has shorts under.

• The viewers went crazy for Noah's new look. Sadly for them it was very temporary.

• Team E-Scope's training before the competition began consisted of diving off high places given Chris's love for that, eating weird things, balance practice, and building things with and without instructions.

• But Noah's sisters also had him practice other things. Naomi had them practice rock climbing, Nidhi had them practice memory things like remembering things other people told them (a-la-Beth), Nadia had them wrangle her sugar-crazed kids (Noah thinks she just wanted babysitters), Natalie had them practice sewing in case they had to patch something up, Nila had them cook, Nisha had them practice hitting things with a cricket bat (she is a professional cricket player), Noelle had them play Just Dance, and Neelima had them study their contracts XD. [The sisters are not in age order here]

In TPB, Tallstar doesn't softball Fireheart until he's proven himself as someone very different from a standard Clan cat... even after he goes to fetch him from exile, he's standing firm that WindClan cannot forever be in ThunderClan's 'debt'. He even repays ThunderClan's "kindness" by attacking them over not executing a blinded Brokentail.

He ISN'T obsessed with Fireheart, he barely even speaks particularly nicely about him until Fireheart goes against Bluestar's DIRECT orders to stop war with WindClan, trying to rally ThunderClan for peace and broker a peace deal. I think it's actually a very good, touching development that Fireheart's actions end up causing peace with WindClan in a way previously unseen by Forest Four.

What sucks most about TPB is how they pivot, in the end, to say "status quo good" when the whole arc before that is a testament to how Bluestar and her protege Fireheart challenge that idea. Dethroning Brokenstar, fetching WindClan, feeding RiverClan which Blue only slaps Fire on the wrist for...

But it makes it a better story that Tallstar was always going to have a good opinion of Fireheart because he looks like a gay lover he had in his 20s???

I feel like it makes TPB worse and makes the WindClan Rebellion pathetic

Why couldn't it actually be that Tallstar truly wanted peace, but misjudged Onewhisker because he barely knew him? Why are we stripping away the tragedy that is Tallstar making a hasty, naive decision in the hopes of a better world, only to plunge his Clan into even more chaos? Not realizing that friendship is only easy when it's not under pressure, forgetting to consider how insidious Clan culture can be, and what sorts of horrors he was about to shackle Onewhisker to?

Why do we have to turn this into Tallstar trying to giving his ex-lover's son a political freebie, because they're both gingers? I don't like it at all. I don't like Pining Idiot Tallstar. I like it most as a naive choice which, up in heaven and far away, he now deeply regrets.

Thinking about it, you could say that BB!Tallstar's theme is naivety. Naive to think that he always understands the rules, and that he can 'have his cake and eat it too.'

He couldn't bring his son Fly to the Clan and expect him to stay innocent. He couldn't end the Shadow/Wind War while claiming the Mouthermouth Moorland. He couldn't wait until the last minute to change his deputy and expect the new leader to be what he wanted.

ANYWAY YEAH lmao sorry, got carried away. TLDR no. I know it's a popular headcanon and I don't knock on folks who like it, but it's not my cuppa tea. I very intentionally am retconning the retcons. Retconception if you will
