if jake isnât firestarâs father, is tallstar still just as obsessed and parental with firestar?
imo, the funniest headcanon in warriors is that jake isnât firestarâs father but tallstar is such a pining idiot he looks at any orange cat and sees his former crush. if he was alive to see all the fire spawn he would absolutely lose it.
noooOOOO I know everyone likes that but (quickly pauses to check ur pronouns, sees no pronouns listed) FRIEND i don't like that retcon at all, not even a tiny little bit
In TPB, Tallstar doesn't softball Fireheart until he's proven himself as someone very different from a standard Clan cat... even after he goes to fetch him from exile, he's standing firm that WindClan cannot forever be in ThunderClan's 'debt'. He even repays ThunderClan's "kindness" by attacking them over not executing a blinded Brokentail.
He ISN'T obsessed with Fireheart, he barely even speaks particularly nicely about him until Fireheart goes against Bluestar's DIRECT orders to stop war with WindClan, trying to rally ThunderClan for peace and broker a peace deal. I think it's actually a very good, touching development that Fireheart's actions end up causing peace with WindClan in a way previously unseen by Forest Four.
What sucks most about TPB is how they pivot, in the end, to say "status quo good" when the whole arc before that is a testament to how Bluestar and her protege Fireheart challenge that idea. Dethroning Brokenstar, fetching WindClan, feeding RiverClan which Blue only slaps Fire on the wrist for...
But it makes it a better story that Tallstar was always going to have a good opinion of Fireheart because he looks like a gay lover he had in his 20s???
I feel like it makes TPB worse and makes the WindClan Rebellion pathetic
Why couldn't it actually be that Tallstar truly wanted peace, but misjudged Onewhisker because he barely knew him? Why are we stripping away the tragedy that is Tallstar making a hasty, naive decision in the hopes of a better world, only to plunge his Clan into even more chaos? Not realizing that friendship is only easy when it's not under pressure, forgetting to consider how insidious Clan culture can be, and what sorts of horrors he was about to shackle Onewhisker to?
Why do we have to turn this into Tallstar trying to giving his ex-lover's son a political freebie, because they're both gingers? I don't like it at all. I don't like Pining Idiot Tallstar. I like it most as a naive choice which, up in heaven and far away, he now deeply regrets.
Thinking about it, you could say that BB!Tallstar's theme is naivety. Naive to think that he always understands the rules, and that he can 'have his cake and eat it too.'
He couldn't bring his son Fly to the Clan and expect him to stay innocent. He couldn't end the Shadow/Wind War while claiming the Mouthermouth Moorland. He couldn't wait until the last minute to change his deputy and expect the new leader to be what he wanted.
ANYWAY YEAH lmao sorry, got carried away. TLDR no. I know it's a popular headcanon and I don't knock on folks who like it, but it's not my cuppa tea. I very intentionally am retconning the retcons. Retconception if you will
#Thinking about it... I think I want to like#Have people in the universe think he was very wise#But towards the end. Somehow. He's able to speak to someone (maybe onestar. I think onestar deserves an apology)#And say#''I've heard it said now that the more you know. The more you know you don't know''#''I was a naive cat and I made very selfish choices''#And if it's onewhisker he finally says to the poor fucking dude ''I never should have thrust that upon you.''#Maybe include some kind of Clanmew pun like#''Just before you became (whole amount)whisker... I forced you to become (just one)star.''#Arrahussk/Ularrashai#Oogway ass moment#Cat Oogway#Since BB!AVoS is about breaking cycles and redemption this would actually be a very nice end to Onestar I think#Also also (Autism) I am not mad I don't know if I came across as mad in this reply#what's tone

how to make your writing be remembered forever and possibly be well loved.
(incredibly stupid and silly fanfiction line at the end of this post) I know that title is incredibly daunting but listen, its very simple. you ready?
MAKE STRONG CHARACTERS
"but kat! surely its not that simple! " nononono listen. bear with me. I want you to think of your favorite thing. Now ask: what do you remember the most about the thing you love? I will go first:
I love team fortress 2. and guess what: this game has been around since 2007, and was in development hell since before I was even born. The game has been around for 16 fucking years. And guess what? in the strong year of 2023 team fortress 2 Is STILL getting memed about. and do you want to know the crazy part? the character designs to the naked eye are not special at all. ok sure from a designer standpoint, these are very well designed characters made so that you can easily tell who they are based on their silhouette. but from the average joe.... tf2 is iconic but overall it looks ok. it doesn't seem special to a stranger to tf2. look at this completely random and arbitrary example of a game in the same genre:
I don't know shit about the characters in overwatch. Yeah i have a BASIC idea on what their personality is like based on voice lines and some videos i guess... but in-game they just exist. these characters are brightly colored, they have beautiful unique designs, hell they have even more diversity such as robots and people from other cultures! but i don't remember shit about these characters. Maybe I remember the ice lady and tracer, but nothing else. and yeah part of overwatch struggling right now is incompetant development, BUT: The characters in team fortress 2 are SO remember-able because the characters have such a vibrant personality. I am an orange box owner, its been a decade and a half and I am still remembering this game and enjoying art about it.
"but kat! that is a comedy game! Overwatch is a very serious game! are you saying comedy is needed to make a character more noticeable?" no. though I think allowing your characters to lighten up every now and then would humanize them. Not full on goofy, just give them something that makes them likeable. and if you cant do that, you can STILL make a compelling character even though they are mostly seriousness. I have an even more awfully thought out example:
kung fu panda is a masterclass in making a serious comedic movie somehow work. Master Oogway.... he isn't a comedic character at all. Yeah we made memes about him, but ignoring that, he is a wise and resourceful person. He is at calm and has faith in this intuition. there are a lot of characters like this. What makes Oogway stand out is that he is also a little bit kooky and sassy.
youtube
this youtube clip sums up what I mean. It is a funny line, it fits the character, and It doesn't ruin the seriousness of the moment. Some of the most successful series in history have something about them that has appealed to people. In my opinion: characters with strong personality and interesting traits is always a good way to ensure your writing is successful. The second most important is the characters bouncing off of each other in terms of their chemistry with each other. There is a reason why I spent years playing the first Destiny game and all of the DLC, but I remember fuck all about the characters. I think I maybe remember the bootleg star lord robot guy.
A writing exercise
here is an exercise to get you in the spirit of character making. step 1- get a random character from a random bit of media. In this case let me bring you master Oogway. Step 2- Get a completely different character from a completely unrelated series. I am going to give you Scout from team fortress 2. step 3- write a random ass thing about them interacting. Think about how the characters would react to each other and why. Think about each characters values in life and think about how they would bond and conflict with each other. Think about characters similar to the character they met in the past and how they reacted then, and if they have never interacted, make something interesting with it. Step 4- keep experimenting. Once you get into the spirit you can apply this to any new character you could want to make anyways thats it byeee- "arent you going to do that ?" do what? "make a writing thing about oogway and scout. " ........
Scout: let's go turtle you got nothing on my speed- Oogway: The one who first resorts to violence shows that he has no more arguments. Scout: that sounds like chicken talk! come on tough guy let me have it- Oogway then proceeds to make scout eat shit before vanishing in a cloud of cherry blossoms and dust from the desert. If this post isn't popular I want you to know my dignity was lost for nothing.
#please read the post before you comment âoooh no why do you have so many random tagsâ. they are not random this post is just weird as fuck#trust me on this this absolutely does actually have something to do with both kung fu panda and team fortress 2 please read the post first#also fan art or writing bits based on the oogway and scout interaction I made would be 100% appreciated and loved by me.#I would love to see what yall make based on the exercise i made!#writing tips#writing advice#creative writing#writing#writers#character analysis#team fortress#team fortress 2#tf2#overwatch#overwatch 2#kung fu panda#master oogway#tf2 scout

ok top five scenes from the kung fu panda universe (any of the movies, shorts, shows, etc). could be fight scenes, character moments, etc etc so on and so forth
FERN THIS IS SO HARD. FOR ME. UHM !!!!
ESCAPE FROM GONGMEN TOWER please watch it right now please please it's such an underrated scene musically and visually. this is the scene where tigress catches a flaming arrow and that's the exact moment i became a homosexual. vic history. it's also the scene where we see her chops as a leader of the five and the way she's fit into this role to balance out Po so well. and also all her potential as who she could've been, if she'd been chosen to be the dragon warrior herself. but she's not.
youtube
MUSICIAN'S VILLAGE I LOVE this scene the way it introduces, to the audience, that the score is going to play a part in the fight scenes of this movie is absolutely magnificent. and the way we get reintroduced to the furious five's + po's fighting style, and it reminds us immediately that they are formidable--and then sets up the inciting incident of the plot with so much mystery (and we see the 2d animation style again too, which has always represented po's inner subconscious. WHY DIDN'T THEY DO THAT FOR THE FOURTH MOVIE. whatever)
youtube
i would say the bridge fight (kfp1) and i adore that scene but i have to say, i really love the performances, the ambience, the color boards, the sound effects, and the emotional impact of shifu and tai lung's fight in the 3rd act more. i love when kfp actually invested time in its non-main protag characters. tai lung was an absolutely fascinating villain and this scene just rounds out his character so well
youtube
The entirety of the secrets of the scroll short film oh my god i love that one so much. teenage tigress. my baby girl.
youtube
FUCK okay and then the fireworks factory (2nd movie) where Po confronts Shen about his past. And he gets shot with a cannon and Tigress doesn't get to him in time. breaks my heart every time. i'm going to include the scene where Tigress and Po fight right before that in the jail too bc the musical score called "Fireworks Factory" starts with THEIR HUG. AND IT ENDS WITH HER RUNNING TO CATCH HIM. AND FAILING. MY BAKA LIFE !!!!! i don't even ship them anymore like i did when i was 14 i mostly just love tigress but their platonic relationship is v important to me. i have to include their hug bc that did irreparable damage to me as a tween. sorry the quality of the first vid is so ass. their relationship in the entire 2nd movie is so good i could write a whole analysis on it probably. it's paining me physically to not include their earlier boat scene talk.
youtube
this is also the scene where tigress snarls at the gorilla and that changed my brain chemistry forever.
youtube
i love the entire second movie this is so hard for me AUGHHHGHGH okay quick honorary mention: i also love the scene where we see shen fight the three masters (rhino, croc, ox). that quick fight scene is SO well executed. the dialogue and the performances are incredible. i used to have every line of dialogue of this movie memorized and especially loved reciting this scene (skip to 1:10)
youtube
and then if i had to pick a moment from the third one it's the one where oogway's statue gets wrecked at the jade palace. it lands emotionally very well for a scene that could have easily been mishandled too comedically or too quickly. like it still gives me chills. and i'm not even gonna touch on the character animation/acting of tigress and shifu here bc GOD. kai's theme does rock also!!! AND i LOVE the colors in this movie SO MUCH holy fuck
youtube
and then a minor detail from the first one is i love how the characters act with each other, namely the five and shifu. they clearly have a history and/or comradery with each other. shifu undoing the nerve damage tai lung did in a way specific to each of his students stands out to me in particular.
1 and 2 are masterpieces to me and i have my Things about the 3rd one but overall, a beautiful trilogy. i wish the 4th one didn't exist im killing it with my bare hands. vic hate movie? vic murder it. 5th rule of the streets.
#you sly dog. you've got me monologuing#if u saw me listening to the soundtrack the whole time i answered this. yeah you did#star's asks#fernsnailz#kfp

Kung Fu Panda Series Observation/Theories: Peach Tree symbolismđ
Hi all! I feel like the majority of the fandom-pandom for kfp is losing their s$&ts from the trailer released for the fourth film; respectively, I also agree and am currently obsessing over ANY details from the clips released! (I know what the wiki page says about the Furious 5 only having a BRIEF MOMENT but please dreamworks, just bring those beautiful babes back and donât forgot about them!đ)
Anyway, hereâs some observation points Iâm noticing and then drawing possible theories, just to help ease my brain from any hurt that may be to come from the movie released next yearđ
*Basically, itâs all about the Peach Tree*
FYI: I will predominantly be referencing my notes from the FILMS and not the short films/separate series since I donât know much about those films. The ONLY one I will be referencing is from âSecrets of the Scrollâ since the Peach Tree is heavily symbolized (and I live for Tigress contentđŻ).
âŚâŚâŚâŚâŚ
1st pic] Coming from the kfp4 trailer, this beautiful ass Peach Tree of Heavenly Wisdom is prospering for who knows how long this franchise (and turtle manâs death) occurred. Big thing to note is not only the tree itself, but the tiny tree located to the left of Po. I believe thatâs the same tree from the first movie, where Shifu and Oogway would plant a new sapling during their conversation about angry boi and sh$&ting on how useless Po is to themđĽ˛
*sidenote: from the trailer, there is a scene where Po is watching the blossoms move in the wind. This did remind me of Oogwayâs passing from the first film so whether a âchange/transitionâ could occur is something to consider. Also, I donât know if that scene takes place at the beginning, middle or end of the forth movie so hopefully more content will be released soonđđ
2nd pic] The second picture below references this ideaâ furthermore, from the wiki page, Oogway replanted the peach sapling (the one where Master Master took his feelings out on the tree and a seed fell down), in order to represent how using effective teaching methods towards Po will not only help the panda learn Kung-Fu but also be able to defeat Tai Lung. Congrats then to Shifu for taking the turtleâs advice because now we are getting a fourth film (and all the separate shorts too).
Also from the 1st movie, when Oogway is meditating (before Shifu f$&n interrupts his yoga session) the Peach Tree is actively losing its petals, and then WE ARE TREATED TO THE BEAUTY AND HEARTACHE OF OOGWAYâS DEATH IN ONE OF THE MOST ICONIC CINEMATIC MASTERPIECES OF ALL TIME!!!𪌠So, tree loses petals= loss, death of something? Towards the end of kfp1, the tree starts getting its petals back= rebirth, growth, gain???
3rd pic] - From Secrets of the Scroll, before events of kfp1
Ok, so our beautiful tiger girl is given some much needed spotlight in this short; followed by some emotional damage and teenage issues (like having to fight a boar, prove your worth to your adoptive red panda father, etcâŚ) And, there is the one scene that basically mimics Oogwayâs talk with Po (except its grandpa and granddaughter.)
Tigress, as a teenager just got s$&t on by Shifu for getting the wrong group of people to fight pig man (thus Furious Five was born.) She takes some therapeutic, albeit depressive-episode moment time by Peach Tree till Oogway joins her and gives some loving advice: screw dad and prove your worth to yourselfđđ
We then get treated to a beautiful, strong independent woman and her comrades for future films! My note from this pic is that the blossoms are not gone (unlike Oogwayâs deathbed scene), so this could also symbolize growth, aspiration, understanding your self-worth (like Poâs from first movie- 4th pic)
âŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚ.
Notes about Peach and Peach Blossom symbolism in Chinađ
. âAlso known as âFairy Fruitâ, all of its parts are used in Chinese traditional medicine as a cure for several diseasesâŚâ ( located under PEACHES category, website, 12/29/2023, https://www.nonsolobacchette.com/post/the-hidden-meaning-of-peaches-in-chinese-art )
. Also from same article, the peach has been associated with immortality and longevity (could explain why Oogwayâs lived for such a long ass time too, apart from the fact heâs also a turtle.)
. Good fortune is another symbol for the peach (considering the luck Po has got, maybe those peaches were watching after him!)
Peach blossom trees also represent longevity: they bloom in March and represents spring.
And, DA DA DAâŚ.. peach blossoms also symbolizes love!â¤ď¸ From the article, since the trees bloom in March, thatâs a prime time for weddings to occur (hm, wonder what that could mean .. cough cough đźđŻ)!!!! Could also be just general love for friends, family too.
âŚâŚâŚâŚâŚâŚ..
Anyway these were just some notes and observations I saw from the trailer. Truthfully, Dreamworks may be watching the fandom from afar or completely ignoring us but I do hope that the forth film wonât destroy all the beauty and intelligence that the franchise had carried before (especially with the first two films.)

Have you ever just listened to the Kung Fu panda soundtrack? Just on its own? Yeah yeah we all know Oogway Ascends kicks your ass, but Hero? THAT SHIT JUST KICKS ALL ASS. THE WAY IT JUST GOES THROUGH SUCH A RANGE OF ENERGY? THE FIRST TIME IT STARTS SLAPPING YOU IN THE FACE WITH AWESOMENESS? THE GLOWING FEELING OF THE SLOW MOMENTS? THE CONSISTENT PLAYFULNESS THAT INTRODUCES THE MAIN CHARACTER PERFECTLY? STOP IT RIGHT NOW YOU'RE KIDDING.

Can we all just take a minute and watch this please
I usually don't like music edits (don't come for me but most of them are kinda cringe) but this one is AMAZING
KAI he's not my favourite villain but he looks AWESOME and I didn't know imagine dragons could suit him so well
This song was sampled by Hans Zimmer to create Kai's theme and thought throughout movie this was the track that stood out to me
OOGWAY his fight with Kai at the start is bad ass and everything is made so much cooler by the music
I love oogway he's great
The explosion of qi at 1:11
The lyrics fit so well with the relationship between Oogway and Kai
KAI SWINGING HIS BLADES
And poor Crane at 2:05 I always feel bad for him in that moment
Kai and Oogway's back story at 2:23 will forever be my favourite part because it's in the emotional part of the song??? And it managed to get more sympathy out of me that the movie did
3:10 Po was like one meal away from being sliced
CAN WE JUST appreciate Tigress at 3:31 her kick is so much more powerful than what she was giving in the first two movies ilovehersomuch
(Crane is just getting beaten up in this video poor bird)
PO AT THE END with his rice hat and the qi around him... Ugh just chills
I want everyone to appreciate this as much as I do OK bye

ok seeing as ive essentially bingewatched all of tpod have this informal review abt my first impressions overall:
pros:
while there are only so little movie characters in the series, the ones that do appear are still in-character and develops the secondary charactersÂ
THIS SHOW MADE ME RLY SAD ABT GRANDMA PANDA FOR A HOT SECOND THERE SO PROPS
actually, kinda made me care abt li shan by making him a more distinct character. ymmv on him, but the angle of him being this Really Proud Dad to compensate the fact that heâs never had to be w po during his childhoodâs an interesting angle (either that or he was bragging. thereâs probably that too)
the villain's main two-faced gimmick and deceit is good. you know that moment in kfp2 where shen tells po his parents never loved him to psyche him out?? thatâs literally just jindiaoâs mo, so its fun
so, hereâs a possibly contentious opinion: the kids...... are alright. better than alright, really. theyâre good. their characters are distinct, and they act like good kid characters-- theyâre not obnoxious and their interactions are nice
every other series-exclusive character has fun designs and gimmicks for the most part
cons:
lets just get this one out of the way-- the five and shifu donât show up. theyâre only mentioned in name, and the closest thing you get to a cameo is nu hai holding the tigress action figure
admittedly, not all kids are made equal, development-wise. jing (the one with the white tiger) is the most developed out of the four by virtue of the fact that the most things happen to her than others. then comes nu hai (azure blue dragon), bao (black tortoise), and fan tong (vermilion bird red phoenix), so gauge your expectations based on that
the setting.......... is very small. by that i mean there isnt a lot of new places, and the ones that are there are pretty generic. really, thereâs only two that stand out in my mind (the one based on the irl hanging monastery in china, and the Criminal Village whose name i forgot)
bits of dialogue uh... inconsistency??? like, you know how in movies there are certain elements that are arguably âmodernâ (like the concept of action figures and the like) but are otherwise justified in a lighthearted-ish version of ancient china (like the concept of Really Fast Portrait Painters in place of cameras in holiday special)-- there are mentions of pizza and other contemporary things/turns of phrases for comedic effect, so depending on how you are it can be really jarring to hear that
they essentially incapacitated po in a way halfway thru the season, mostly so the kids dont have a safety net in the form of him potentially helping them out. its..... annoying
the actual four constellations-- you know, the characters whose existence kinda are/were pivotal to the plot?? theyâre all very generic kinda-jerky kung fu guys in both personality and designs. they literally just rehashed the oogway/tai lung/shen models rip
the ending...... imo is a little............. basically really similar to kfp3. if you still want to watch it, then i wonât spoil it but it kinda lost me at the climactic final battle at the end there (which is Not A Good Thing for a climactic final battle to do)
slight quibble, but all this qi terminology is extremely silly. Good Chi?? Evil Chi??? HERO CHI????
let me be a little bit cynical here, a part of me still thinks they went w the panda kids angle is bc theyâd appeal to kids more and potentially get more money
other things:
the kids are voiced by actual kids, i think?? or at least really convincing adults
heres another point of contention: the 2d ink style works better in the series than in 3 proper bc its a lot more sketchy and more like ink rather than clean lineart with an ink filter on top??? idk its hard to explain
on occasion, there will be a montage and those montages will have songs in chinese??? thats fun
more species are shown!!!
referenced kfp3 Happening and even named-dropped kai. conversely, it seems that they really want to brush kfp2 under the carpet when talking about past threats that befell the panda village
apparently they forgot insects are sentient in this universe, seeing as there are multiple gross food gags where bugs are an ingredient. notable mention goes to this maggot soup thing that one of the characters eats. does that count as eating children????
you bet ur ass im using the panda village lore in auâs
ping x cart real
conclusion:
imo the series is a fun departure from canon, but you Really gotta turn off your brain to keep from pointing out potential inconsistencies towards the movies. if youâre really turned off by the fact that the five and shifu arenât here, then its probably not gonna be fun for you to sit thru 6.5 hours of this
but if you guys are interested in fun setpieces and characters with little regard for keeping movie canon sacred, then i guess i can recommend it. its kinda like watching those movies for anime series-- with minimal having to care about them outside of that one self-contained thing
but as ive said-- last bit is a copout, perhaps even moreso than 3. its really all about the journey for this series, rather than the destination

Another character question but what about Mei's relationship with Shifu and Tigress? Don't think I've seen this one asked yet??
pre-bukesiyi, mei only really knows of them. sure she has respect towards them, but at the same time she also sees them (the jade palace in general) as high paying clients that tend to ask for her help/participation for valley-wide celebrations
post-bukesiyi, her relationship w shifu is kinda strained bc she Knows that he gave oogway an unreasonably hard time, so initially sheâs really snippy around him. it never really wears off and theyre more like acquaintances. mei thinks shifu has a stick up his ass, but sometimes they have times where theyre both sarcastic at the same thing and become salty pals, at least for that moment
her relationship w tigress post bukesiyi is really awkward on her side. the original concept was that before, she mostly talked to po shan and had something of a rapport w him cus he was the one to plan w her in regards to valley-wide readings and all that stuff. the change in management kind of hits her hard. on top of that, she's both simultaeneously grateful for the oppurtunity oogway has w her training him, but really wishes shed take it easy on him sometimes

I have mixed feelings on Tigressâs upbringing? On one hand its good that Shifu took her in and raised her almost like she was his own but at the same time I donât doubt that he was super distant emotionally and physically because of what happened with Tai Lung. There were moments where they could joke and play but mostly he was probably just....afraid that she would end up just like his last student and betray him. She tried very hard to mimic his fighting style but would get caught up in doing her own thing (those tiger instincts kicking in) and sheâd get scolded for it. I donât know how old she was in that furious five short where she brought monkey and the gang to the temple but like.....she had to have been at least 17.
My girl was in a damn deep funk and oogway had to drop that old man knowledge on her that she had to be herself because trying to be Shifu was just hurting her. Then in that fight with boar when he calls her Shifu it all clicks and she whoops that ass.

And so, Tai Lung helped Kai locate Oogway within the infinite abyss that is the spirit realm.
"There he is!" Tai Lung pointed. "Look at him. Just sitting there. Who does he think he is?"
Kai clinches his fists angrily, "He ALWAYS used to sit like that and it always pissed me off!"
"Then let's go kick his ass!" Tai Lung shouted victoriously.
"I've waited five hundred years for this moment. Ever since that treacherous tortoise banished me to the spirit realm and totally didn't kill me because that is apparently a completely different thing."
"Wait. I thought you were dead."
Kai shrugs, "Nope. Still alive. But also kind of dead in a sense. There's this little gray area in between and that is apparently where I exist."
Perplexed, Tai Lung ponders, "So...am I dead?"
"Well...you were a victim of the Wuxi Finger Hold, right?"
"Yes."
"Okay well TECHNICALLY you were also banished here by that."
"What?"
"Yeah. Apparently the Wuxi doesn't actually kill its victims. It just sends them here."
"But...isn't that the same thing as being killed?"
"Look, the semantics aren't important! The point is we are here and he is there and my foot is about to be lodged so far up Oogway's poop shoot, no doctor will be able to remove it!"
Tai Lung now shrugs, "Well, I mean, depending on the depth, a general surgeon or a proctologist could remove it."
Fed up, Kai smacks Tai Lung in the back of the head, "That's it. You're getting turned into an amulet."
"A what?"
Kai then waves his hands around dramatically, stealing Tai Lung's chi and turning him into a jade amulet that now hangs around his loincloth, uncomfortably close to his crotch. "Hope you enjoy it down there." He laughs. "I haven't showered for five centuries. Granted I don't need to shower because I'm dead. WAIT! NOT DEAD! Banished. Don't want to cause more discourse on tumblr."
Suddenly, Oogway peeks his head into Kai's personal space, "The fuck is going on over here?"
What's kind of sad is that the Furious Five were pretty much treated the same way in the first movie they were often in LoA since the one fight they take part in ends in their defeat in order to show how serious Tai Lung was.
True, but in the context of the first film, it makes complete sense.
We are told multiple times earlier in the film of just how tough Tai Lung is. We are given glimpses of what he did before when he attacked the village and how he crippled Shifu (giving him the limp he has now).
Then we witness his might when he escapes the prison. Tai Lung uses only a single feather and his tail to escape his confines, dodges hundreds of arrows, parkours atop falling rocks, single handedly fights and defeats all of the rhino guards inside the prison and make it to freedom.
When it seems Po will not be up to the task, as he is still in his training, Tigress offers to go face Tai Lung only for Shifu to flat out tell her no. He tells her she (and by extension the furious five) are no match for Tai Lung; that ONLY the Dragon Warrior can defeat him.
Then, Tigress goes against Shifuâs direct orders in a desperate attempt to prove her worth to him, by going off to fight Tai Lung alone. The others, of course, also disobey Shifu and go with her.
So after explicitly and directly being told NOT to face Tai Lung, they did it anyway. And what happened? They were defeated just as Shifu said they would be.
So yeah, they were beaten in their only fight in the film. But it was a fight they were already told they would not win. Tigress put her pride first, still angry over the fact she was not chosen as Dragon Warrior, and went against the direct orders of her master and pseudo-father to fight an enemy she was told she could not defeat. And them losing the fight was the outcome they were promised.
In the film, given everything we see and are told leading up to the encounter on the bridge, it all makes sense and perfectly serves the story as it should. This was Tigressâs character arch in the first film. She had to learn to trust in Oogwayâs choice of Po as the Dragon Warrior, to let go of her resentment and pride, and learn humility regarding kung fu.
Youâll notice this extends to kfp2 as well. Tigress learned those lessons the hard way and in the second film, she trusts Po and the rest of the five instead of trying to go solo. She puts more trust in Shifu and follows his advice more thoroughly. She sees that what makes a warrior isnât just muscle and endless training and removing all joy from oneâs life. She has learned that what makes a great warrior is their heart and spirit, as represented in Po. Po teaches her to lighten up some and have fun, that training and playing can coexist; a concept she had never considered before.
In LOA, their approach wasnât as thought out or meaningful as it was in the films as all the heroes were written to be arrogant, dumb and childish. Whereas in the films they make mistakes, learn from them and grow as characters.

The good turtle boy! Oogway! (For the chrctr thing? Tnx!)
First impression: n/a bc I Had No Opinion
Impression now: the chaotic dude no one expected but Definitely needed
Favorite moment:Â âits so nice that youâve used the most respected art form in china and used it to pursue nothing but fameâ bit in sotm bc its the closest weâve seen him get Salty and im all for it
Idea for a story: warlord-era oogway and/or his transition from warlord to grandmaster. thatâs it, thatâs the entire idea bc its been three years and that idea has barely been taken advantage of, prompt-wise
Unpopular opinion: GOD what was up with that one theory/people claiming that oogway was the âreal villain of k/fpâ bc he didnt give tai lung the dragon scroll. like. think abt what would actually happen if he got an Empty Scroll he Definitely wouldnt understand then. it wouldve had the same outcome tbh, except now tl wouldve tried to fight him and shifu first before rampaging the villagealso that one weird trope i see in fanfics where oogway is the proverbial shipper on deck for ti/po and making weird ass comments abt it. it doesnt happen a Lot (hell i think ive only seen it in One Fic) but it rubs me the wrong way
Favorite relationship: jade palace crew, and also kai in the past if weâre talking canonically. crackship brotp wise, theres soothsayer, and then in an entirely different camp theres the Quotemaker Trio w him, soothsayer, and shifu
Favorite headcanon: after being healed by the pandas, that had the weird side effect of him living Much longer than the average tort
