This is a companion peice to my poll.

Regulus is all 3 in one; a jock, a goth, and a prep. this is why he is so sexy and why we all worship him so much. In this post I will explain why and how regulus is all 3 of these things at once.

Jock: Ok, I am pretty shocked by how much Jock is losing this tournament. Because I feel like Jock is a very obvious aspect of his personality? I mean, him being a quidditch player is one of the only things we know about him besides his death... and it was so focused upon by Harry... But yes, Regulus is very obviously a Jock, he is on a sports team.,... and he is more strong than he looks.... so yeah, regulus is a Jock! I am guessing maybe people struggle to see this because they are too busy imagining him getting bent over a table or something

Goth: I already explained this in detail, but yes, Regulus is gothic, please read my post about it. I have seen some people say he cannot be gothic due to the origins of the goth movement but we are talking about the modern usage of the word "goth" a word to describe an aesthetic, if you saw regulus walking, you would be like, "whoa, who is that goth guy with the massive sexy ass?" the term goth has changed meanings over time, it refers to an aestehtic more than anything else. and also, I don't think you can try to say the standards of the muggle goth movement apply to wizards. I am using goth in an anachronistic sense; a modern person looking at regulus would say he is goth, and this has nothing to do with what goth meant at the time he was alive.

Prep: Well I don't need to explain this one since everyone Is already voting for it, but yes, regulus is 1. rich and 2. pretentious (see: the note he has on his bedroom door), so yes, I would say he is a prep.

So yes, he is all 3, goth, jock, and prep, which is part of what makes him so sexy, that he is able to encompass everything on this earth all at once, this is why I love him so.

Caitlyn and Jinx parallels - and the conclusion they hint at

I think (and other people have guessed this too) that Caitlyn will lose an eye by the end of Arcane.

This is why. Spoilers for Arcane S2 Act 1 below (and some stuff from the trailers)

To me, the way that the show is currently portraying Caitlyn and Jinx points to this conclusion. It's pretty obvious to everyone that the two characters have been set up to be narrative foils. Jinx, from what I've seen in trailers for Arcane Season 2, will become a symbol to the people of Zaun, representing revolution from the Piltovian elite who have been abusing them for countless years.

Jinx's character represents the best of Zaun -- the ingenuity of the people there can be seen in the way she builds and creates devices from Piltovian scraps. She is also capable of incredible violence, the sort of acts of revolution that are necessary to induce change.

By the end of Act 1, Caitlyn has become a symbol of Piltover. She comes from an old, wealthy family, one that changed the very foundation the city was built on through their wealth and engineering.

Through these parallels, we can guess that when other characters describe or say things about Jinx or Caitlyn and the power they have as symbols, there is a double meaning -- they also apply to their foil.

Take this for example. Salo is talking about Caitlyn, about the power and prestige her name gives her. But is he?

When I first watched this scene I was struck by how ambiguous the wording is -- it took a few viewings to realise they were speaking about Caitlyn. Ambessa mentions that Caitlyn "overpowered" Salo in the council chamber when she stormed up and laid out her plan for a strike force. But we, the audience, know of another girl who overpowered Salo (and the other councillors) in their chambers.

The dialogue is foreshadowing what will happen around Jinx -- the way her actions and name captivate Zaun and the movement that will grow around her.

But why do I think this leads to Caitlyn losing an eye?

The episode before, Smeech - a chembaron, arguably a member of the closest thing Zaun has ever had to their own council (which is like... yeeesh) says this to Jinx:

When we think of a long-range type in Arcane, who do we think of?

Jinx is also technically a long-range fighter, but she's much better at close-up scrapping than Caitlyn, who almost gets her ass kicked by Sevika (and probably would have if not for the Hexcore glitch).

Caitlyn losing an eye would be devastating as she is a long range sharpshooter who relies heavily on her vision. Smeech's moment with Jinx was the part that convinced me this was going to happen.

There's other stuff, too, if you apply the "using the other foil as foreshadowing" rule.

Jinx's classic "who, me?" look also has her showing one eye.

And obviously in the poster, Caitlyn has literally put pins in Jinx's eye. Not worried about that rebounding at all Cait?

There's more. Caitlyn at her most reprehensible (gassing the Undercity) has one eye.

The Caitlyn doll Jinx made has one eye (I think, it's hard to tell).

This is a bit more of a long shot, but when Caitlyn thinks she sees Jinx at the old arcade in Zaun, she flips and shoots the figurine.

We get a quick shot of her eyes beforehand.

Don't you think the pupils kind of look like dartboards? Like targets?

I think Caitlyn is going to get very injured in her quest to get Jinx. Everything she throws at Jinx has managed to rebound at her. Even using the tunnels her family built and unleashing the Gray on the gangs of Zaun got Uno-reversed on her -- Jinx just blew it up to the surface (with her own flair, of course).

Vi even says it out loud, comparing Caitlyn to Jinx - the thing that pushes Cait over the edge and past the point of no-return.

Also there are a lot of profile shots of Caitlyn in the intro and the show that only show one eye.

Mitski + Cherik

I have a playlist of every single Mitski song ever made playing constantly 24 hours of my day for the past 2 years, I also went to see her live. I’ll be damned if I don’t make this post. (Also this has been in the drafts for like 3 weeks now)

So, at first, I was listening to Mitski and was like whoah the song “old friend” is perfect for cherik. And then the song “Eric” came on and I was dumbfounded, so here’s an explanation of lyrics and how they apply to Cherik.

Also I suck at making edits so this is technically the same thing but using your imagination instead.

“We nearly drowned for such a silly thing”

Charles diving into the ocean to save Erik. But this could also mean drowning in their decisions, they almost lost each other because of their beliefs. Such a silly thing to loose each other over.

“Someone who loves me now better than you”

This line makes me believe this song is from Erik’s perspective, either talking about Charles, or Magda. However I like the idea that it’s Charles he talks about since it’s the very start of the song. It might even be implied that “better than you” is implying Shaw.

“And that pretty friend is finally yours”

100% talking about Moira, boy is bitter. All of this so far is talking from the future looking on the past, so that previous line may be talking about Magda after all.

“I’ll be around on Sunday, if you’ll meet me at the blue diner, I’ll take coffee and talk about nothing baby”

Erik meeting Charles at the end of Dark Pheonix. Isn’t it nice to talk about nothing for once, instead of arguing about mutant rights or trying to save the world. They can finally relax together and just be people.

“At the blue diner, I’ll take anything you wanna give me, baby”

Switch to Charles perspective. Agreeing to stay with Erik.

This song is short but wonderful, I’ve only focused on the first half of the song because it fits far too well. The other part fits too but this was too specific.

The way it starts with how they met, then when they left eachother for other people, and then ending with them rejoining. Perfect few lyrics almost like they were made just for them.

And to top it all off, it’s called Old Friend. Thats CRAZY.

“Sorry I can’t take your touch”

Erik leaving at the end of pretty much every movie, the touch being Charles love and want for him to stay with the xmen, with him.

“It’s just that I fell in love with a war”

Erik’s constant belief that there’s a war coming and he needs to fight it first. He chooses this again and again over Charles, one could say he loves it more than he loves Charles.

“Nobody told me it ended”

Still fighting for the war he believes in, even though Charles has been working so hard for mutant rights and has done a lot of good work.

“And it left a pearl in my head, and I roll it around every night, just to watch it glow. Every night baby that’s where I go.”

That anger and sadness that stays within him, stuck in his brain, part of him. Memories of Charles, hating him, loving him. He sits with it every night, going over everything again and again. Also visual of Erik floating them little metal balls.

Beautiful song, good lord. This is all about Erik choosing the war over Charles, there’s also something about the imagery of sitting with a ‘pearl’ in his mind is so very Erik.

“But how long, how long can we play this way?”

Playing as in going back and forth, fighting, making up, fighting again. This is definitely from Charles perspective.

“I’m tired, I’m tired of not loving you”

Charles is tired of not being able to show Erik how much he loves him, he just wants him home.

“My heart, my heart wants to hold you”

All he wants to do it is be with Erik, he wants to comfort him again and show him he’s not evil, that there’s good in there too.

“But I know, I know, I know the rules”

But he knows the rules of this game, he knows they couldn’t ever be together. Be it their opposing beliefs, homophobia, or just the way they are. Perhaps also the rules as in the movie won’t allow it, their writing won’t allow it.

Painful. Other lyrics in the song are more sexual, which also fits if you’d like it to. First line of the song is “you like control, well I do to” and that would be a killer title for a dark cherik fic. They both control their environment in different ways.

“One word from you and I would jump off of this ledge I’m on, baby”

Charles telepathy, could be from any of the students, especially those from the first movie who later died. However it’s painful to think that it’s Erik saying “You’re a telepath Charles, you can convince me of anything.”

Also on that note, the ledge could also refer to delving deeper into his dark side, it would take one mean word from Charles and he’d get so much worse.

Or perhaps he means the ledge in which he’s raised himself to as a super villain, and he knows Charles could bring him down from it.

“Tell me don’t so I can crawl back in”

See my other post about Erik subtly begging Charles to control him. He knows he’ll always pick his cause over staying with Charles, he wants Charles to force him to stay. Get rid of his option to choose so he can crawl back to comfort. Be gone with his righteousness, and just be simple and safe with him.

The title of the song being First Love/Late Spring hurts me. Was mitski an xmen fan or what Jesus.

Left this one until last cause I don’t want to teach a grandma to suck eggs here, I’m sure you already know what’s about to go down. Nonetheless, it would be criminal for me to leave it out. Ready for some Charles angst? Too bad!

Raven, Angel, Darwin, Banshee, Havok, adopted into the xmen with nowhere else to go but return to their unfortunate lives.

“Tell your baby that I’m your baby”

The first xmen looking on to the current, looking at who Charles ‘replaced’ them with.

“I bet on loosing dogs”

Charles putting his trust into those first kids, knowing they were young, but it was the last hope. He better is all on them.

“I know they’re loosing and pay for my place by the ring”

He knows they couldn’t stand a chance, but there was that hope. Perhaps if he trained them, gave them the right motivation, they could survive.

“Where I’ll be looking in their eyes when they’re down”

He’s with them the whole way, in their minds, in their spirits. These kids had fight in them, but they were still kids.

“I’ll be there on their side, I’m loosing by their side.”

When they loose, he looses with them. The xmens fate stands on the strength of those kids. Charles grief over loosing these kids makes him catatonic, wishing he had died instead. He was with them all the way, and yet he still hears “Where were you Charles” “You abandoned all of us”

There's a wounded expression that crosses Tyler's face when Brooke tells him she's not sure if he should have broken up with Nina. Does that mean she changed her mind? That she thought about it and doesn't think they're a good idea? Tyler doesn't want to blame her for that. She has every right to be confused and flighty. Brooke has only been single for a few weeks and Tyler has only been single for a few hours. Maybe this was all too premature and they should wait until everything blows over. How was he supposed to do that though? He can't. Not when she's saying things like, 'I like you' and 'I want to be with you' because that's all Tyler has ever wanted to hear. And hearing those things come from Brooke of all people makes his heart race and his stomach flip. What does that even mean? He assumes its nerves, but really he's unknowingly falling in love with a girl he knows he can never have. If he knew that, he would be running. He would get in his car and flee town because he knows he wouldn't be able to handle that kind of heartbreak. Not now, not after laying awake with her in bed and talking about everything that makes them...them. At this point, no one knows him better. Except maybe Nina, who's currently pinned beneath Noel's grinding hips, being filmed in an aerial shot as he urges her to say his name while she's moaning. If Tyler and Brooke were to listen closely, they would be able to hear the thudding bed and quickening pace of their thrusts.

"Brooke," Tyler breathes as she slides down from the desk to examine his arm. At first he moves his arm away from her, but then concedes. He reminds himself not to push her away just because he's hurt. Not physically, but emotionally. He has a habit of self-sabotaging when the world closes in and the wolves come out. Not that he thinks Brooke is a wolf. But her rejection is no less dangerous than a carnivores teeth. "Are you mad at me for breaking his window?" Tyler asks and his expression is soft like he'd just been caught doing something disappointing. Until now, he's never cared about people's opinion. His moral compass has been broken for longer than half his life. He threw the thing out the window the moment he was separated from Olivia who was his last real friend before the onslaught of foster families and unforgettable abuse. "You think so?" he asks, suppressing a laugh when she warns him that the hydrogen peroxide might sting a little. "I've gotten used to it, pretty eyes." He looks down at the cut as she applies the disinfectant. If only there was a bandage for his feelings. Then he remembers there is. The drug that girl gave him. What did she call it? For a minute, it made him feel like everything was okay. However, he sobered up the minute Brooke got upset with him. His heart wouldn't allow him to feel unbothered when she looked so ...sad. Which reminds him that she does care. She can lie and hide it, but she cares. She's not Nina...he's not being manipulated. She's not Toni...he's not being abandoned. And she's not Elizabeth...he's not being taken advantage of. She's Brooke...the only person who's ever taken care of him. "No one has ever so much as put a Band-Aid on one of my cuts. I've always had to do it myself. You're uhm...You're really good at it." His eyes find hers and his heart opens up yet again. How does she do that? Make him come out of his shell. She's beauty, warmth, and pixie dust. What does he need Grim or ecstasy for when he has her?

"I can deal with Nina's consequences," Tyler looks up from his bandaged arm with a half-smile. "Brooke," he lets out a sad sigh as she says she shouldn't be interested in him. However, the sting does hurt less knowing she likes him in spite of it. "I don't know what you should do. It's not my place to tell you. If you want to be with me then we'll find a way. If you don't feel right about it then you should go. But before you make that decision, I want you to know that I like you too. It's not...about sex. I like connecting with you. You feel familiar to me even though we're practically strangers. But there's so much of my life I want to share with you and I've never felt that way about anyone before..." he looks upward with regret and his jaw flexes at what he's about to say next. "I thought I felt that way about Nina, but I was wrong. I regret every moment with her. But I don't regret a second with you."

The absence of his mouth hanging dangerously close over hers, can be felt almost immediately. Part of her stomach falls too, with regret at asking the wrong question. She didn't mean it in any bad way. She was just overthinking now, worried that she might disappoint him somehow when he realizes sex and a relationship with her may not be as exciting or wild as it was with Nina. Brooke didn't have as much experience in either and her biggest fear was falling for Tyler and him realizing she's weak in comparison.

"No---" Brooke shook her head. Though, she didn't realize her answer could be misconstrued as her agreeing that he shouldn't have dumped Nina. Ultimately, that's what she wanted. It's what she hinted at in their texts prior to Noel's party. "I mean, I don't know..." Brooke didn't feel like she was the best person to be giving him relationship advice. Nor, did she feel entitled to tell him what to do. Unlike Nina, she didn't see him as an object she needed to control. To her, Tyler was a person and she valued his thoughts and feelings. As well as his general well being. Which is how she notices the squinting of his eyes and the slight hiss as he rolls his shoulders to alleviate the pain radiating from his elbow. How had she just noticed that the sleeve of his shirt was wet and ripped?? Beneath it, there was a cut outlined in red. Blood. He was bleeding.

"You're hurt...." She doesn't mean emotionally, although maybe that too. Seeing her with Leo had clearly agitated him enough and he didn't like it. That much was obvious when he stupidly cut himself by taking it out on Leo's driver side window. After sliding off the desk, Brooke rolls up Tyler's sleeve to examine the cut up closely. She's no doctor but, she has enough experience with Jake and his big mouth to where she's learned how to patch a wound. Therefore that's what she does, after she finds some bandages and gauze in Kayla's bathroom. "I'm not sure which is worse.... you breaking Leo's window and hurting yourself in the process or Nina coming after you." The latter wouldn't bode well for them. Tyler having a target on his back means, Nina will want to keep tabs on him at all costs, which makes sneaking around, even harder. "Don't move, this may sting a little." Next to the bandages, Brooke locates a bottle of hydrogen peroxide which she uses to disinfect the cut until a real professional could take a look at it. Then, while using the dressings she found in the bathroom, Brooke wraps Tyler's arm up tightly. "I mean don't get me wrong, I'm glad you aren't with her anymore. I guess I just didn't think about the repercussions when I suggested you leave her to make yourself happier." Knowing Nina, the consequences of that decision will be deadly. "By the way I'm flattered, I could make you that jealous. But, you know you don't need to be right? I'm not interested in him." Just then, her eyes find his to suggest who she's actually interested in. "I shouldn't be interested in you either. But, I can't help it. I like you. I don't know what that means or what I'm supposed to do about it." She finishes patching him up, just in time to gaze up at him. "What do you think I should do?"

I enjoy telling people i prefer old grumpy gays to young giddy ones because it tickled me pink to know we grow old. To know we could get to bitch and just be judged based on our divisiveness as opposed to having it be ascribed to our sexual and gender identities.

In defense of the original, while I do agree the episodic vibes were a bit much at times, and it was something I kinda had to work my way through slowly rather than binging all in one...

I do kinda prefer the more gradual approach to laying out the information; getting to know both the setting and who Vash is as a person and the different facets of both, before getting the context that lets it all click into place. Plus the main quartet having ample time to grow together so that later developments have stronger emotional weight.

I will agree that Knives definitely suffered in focus, and I am interested in how Stampede handles him, but admittedly he wasn't really what I watched Trigun for in the first place. ^^;

yeah my gripe is less with the way the setting and characters were handled and more with the way the. actual plot was handled. it honest to god felt to me like they realized about halfway through their run that they didnt have enough episodes left to get the backstory in in a cohesive way so they just shoved it all into one episode and pretended that that explanation didn't create more questions than it answered. you spend 20 episodes teasing your audience like "ooooh what is vash?? clearly hes not human!! clearly there's something going on!!! don't you want to know whats going on?? keep watching and you'll totally understand whats going on!!" and then your big reveal is that. He Is Not Human. which is something that any idiot who has watched the last 20 episodes has already figured out. the question the audience ACTUALLY has at that point in the runtime is what, EXACTLY, is vash, and what the context is behind the conflict he and knives are in. the backstory episode explains that Knives Is Here, and it gives context to the setting and everything, but it pissed me off that it STILL didn't answer the actual mysteries i cared about, i.e. vash's real identity and the thing with the gun and his fucking arm and knives's motivations and everything. maybe that gets answered in the last episode that i neglected to watch but personally I prefer a story where i UNDERSTAND WHAT'S GOING ON by the time the final confrontation hits. with trigun it got to a point where vash was going out for the final battle with knives and i STILL didn't know who vash was, who knives was, where they came from, or what the hell their motivations were. that just made that final confrontation seem so wholly uninteresting to me that i didn't even feel like watching it. it was like "hey look vash is fighting a cardboard cutout that he is Afraid Of. Why? lmao idk man. probably has something to do with that weird spaceship that shows up in one whole episode before this point. not going to tell you how tho." I think some writers have this tendency to think that mystery = good writing and that not revealing anything to your audience will consistently draw them in for more, but that only works for so long. after 20 episodes of virtually net 0 information it got to feel like I was being strung along and like my questions were never going to be answered, so I gave up on the show in the final hour. Again, i'm not saying it was BAD necessarily and i understand the context in terms of writing and production that led to the show being produced that way but i think it really noticeably suffers due to the fact that it refuses to give the audience ANYTHING but crumbs of information for about 80% of it's runtime. that being said. i did genuinely like a lot of it. it has its moments. im not trying to discourage anyone from watching it or anything lol i just think stampede is a little more successful in keeping the viewer engaged in the story throughout by constantly feeding you bits of information and actually answering your questions as they become plot-relevant.

This plight is the simplest of them all: you did not ask for this. You were never given a choice. No part of yourself feels human, just a collection of traits you've picked up from mirroring anyone you could, even the people you meet through a television screen. It's alienating to live that way- yet someone has called you the alienating one. Maybe too many people to count. Maybe they treated you so uncomfortably inhuman that it's all you can understand now, or you've dug yourself into such a deep hole in an attempt to keep safe that you can't remember a person living in the home of your body at all.
